so do i have to play league to keep up with lore?
Not at all!!! League is the opposite of a story-based game. Champions are meant to represent an archetype in the rift and shout some cool catchphrases. MOST are self contained, a few have interwoven plotlines that can span years. Some character stories get updated over time in the form of short fiction / comics / event based visual novels but most of that content can be looked up online.
In the case of jayce/viktor, to make ref easier for all: HERE’S THE JAYVIK LEAGUE LORE CHEAT SHEET.
Tumblr media
League of Legends
Viktor's bio v.1 | Jayce's bio v.1 | Blitzcrank's bio v.1
Viktor's bio v.2 | Jayce's bio v.2 | Blitzcrank's bio v.2
Viktor’s short story | Jayce’s short story | Blitz’ alt bio
“v.1″ refers to their original release bios, “v.2″ to post runeterra universe reboot bios. Worth noting that some of these changes were... contentious; blitzcrank’s new origin story as something viktor did not create but simply mod is mostly ignored by fans, who still refer to original events in a vague manner. The omission of stanwick in jayce / blitz’ updated bios is a big questionmark. To get in the spirit of the thing I just go all in the ‘Unreliable Narrator’ aspect of their whole shebang and cobble together my own interpretation of events.
[update nov.22]: Blitzcrank’s alt bio has been added! this 1.5 version contains a somewhat different account of events that I kind of prefer, compared to 2.0

CONVERGENCE: A LEAGUE OF LEGENDS STORY
'CONVERGENCE' is an Ekko-led platformer game that released in 2023. An accompanying free-to-download comic miniseries was made to supplement the game's story, and it focuses on Jayce, Viktor, Ekko himself & his family -- and how they are all interwoven as the 'struggling genius' archetype in a very flawed system.
[Read here!!]
This series features a retelling of J/V's backstories through the lens of an outsider, and a bit of an update on where they are now. Surprising absolutely no one: they are still very attached to each other. (This comic is standalone, and not part of the Arcane universe.)
Tumblr media
Legends of Runeterra vikjayce content:
[ Jayce’s Deck / related cards ]  |  [ Viktor’s Deck / related cards ]
Jayce's Path of Champions Comic (Voiced/Viktor is in it)
Jayce voice interactions | Viktor voice interactions (he shares this vid w other champions, pops back from time to time)
*They both keep extensive research/life notes addressing themselves. It’s very undying highschool girl cute. LoR is sometimes referred to as its own continuity; their cards are both a progression of their story and a what-if scenario.
Tumblr media
Arcane universe limited content:
[ Jayce Talis’ journal ] was available to read in the league client while the show was airing. “Far From Home” “Progress Day” “A Powerful Partnership” are all diary entries; the layout is a bit finicky but click on chapter numbers to progress, the image on the side changes to match!
Tumblr media
Wild Rift limited content:
[ Jayce got a champion release webtoon ] that never made it to NA servers. It quickly summarizes his deal and vaguely hints Viktor is in the update horizon.
There is a tentative translation offered by blessed twitter user crossedfires, highlight being the jayce/viktor panel wherein he remarks:
“Genius is always lonely, I know this truth very well. Until Viktor appeared – I admit it – he is the only gear comparable to me.” (uses the verb xiāngdāng (comparable) that means match, balance, correspond to). One of my mandarin-speaking friends has also pointed out the wordplay lends itself to double meaning; “He is the only gear to match/that matches mine.”
Tumblr media
MISC / OFF CANON:
Jayce & Viktor animated stickers
Punches&Plants 2 - Altcanon comedy, various champs living in an urbanized fantasy version of runeterra. Jayce and Viktor retire from a life of rivalry to dedicate themselves to new hobbies. Viktor is a dollmaker, Jayce is a weeb. Blitzcrank has an unfortunate job.
League’s Germany twitter promo - Viktor gets his ‘man of progress’ mug.
Wild Rift holidays promo - Jayce leaves a gift for ‘V’ under the tree.
Jayce and Viktor also have plenty of AU ingame skins with their own micro bios. Not linking these here since itd be too much info/ u can easily google; they share the Battlecast universe (ppl like this one) and the Heavy Metal universe (ppl dislike this one for various reasons, namely retconning Viktor’s full machine skin from ‘his last stage of mechanization’ into a very unfortunate stereotype.) They were meant to be an annoying player and an annoyed dungeon master in the Riftquest universe but riot scrapped Viktor’s skin. RIP
if anything else cool happens or I remember a missed spot I’ll update this!

Hey guys! My name is Alice and I'm looking for partners for Discord 1x1 roleplay! I'm 21 and have been role-playing for a long time. I typically write around 1-3 paragraphs per response and use third person with a preference towards detailed scenes. I'm able to write all pairings and have a few characters I frequently use depending on the scenes. When it comes to genres my roleplays will always contain romance and adult content so I ask that partners are aware and okay with that.
I am 18+ and all participants and characters must be 18+
Other genres I enjoy are fantasy, slice of life, drama, angst and I enjoy themes such as forbidden romance, coming of age, unlikely pairings as well as darker content such as horror, psychological horror, kidnapping/murder. That said there are a few limits I have which are extreme gore, mutilation of player characters (can be discussed), heavy abuse, child abuse, cheating, and multiple partners (can be discussed) . These can be mentioned in backstories/flashbacks but I have very little interest in role-playing them.
As of now I am looking for both Fandom and Fandomless roleplays. I mainly am interesting in playing oc x oc or oc x cc depending on the Fandom and can do double ups if preferred. All ideas are as follows and our doubles don't have to be the same Fandom!
Fandoms:
Seven Dead Sins
Meliodas x Pirate Captain!Elizabeth
- During many of the reincarnations of the couple there was a brief time where Meliodas had taken to the seas long before he ever met his trusted friends. This venture was not in search of his beloved, in fact it was the opposite. Tired of the cycle he wanted only to forget about her and hoped he would find fulfillment by opening a traveling tavern. With a beautiful boat he hoped to open himself up in ports across the seas however that was the last place he thought he'd find a familiar face, especially not as the captain of the ship that was attacking his current port.
Ban/King x fem!Pirate oc
-  in-between adventures it was common to find someplace to settle down and set up shop. An open tavern meant a flow of income and nothing could be better than that, not to mention the rythm of work that kept them busy. This time the choice of settlement was a nice seaside town, quiet but busy. Being a group of former fugitives themselves as a general occupational hazard they knew to expect all manners of criminal encounters but what they weren't expecting was one of highest marks in the area to walk right into the tavern. This plotline is set up as a side adventure and can take place between/after the events of the main anime and follows my oc, a pirate who was born into the life of plunder and knows nothing else and the group that sees her a more valuable than any member of her crew. I see two ways this could start with her walking in with the intention of looting the cities in the surrounding bay or embarrassingly having to hire them to help reclaim her ship after her crew threw her overboard.
Thats not my neighbor
Francis Moses x Doorwoman/Neighbor fem!oc
- while I'm aware looking for a roleplay in this Fandom may be difficult given that the game itself is not very developed however there is a lot to work with in terms of the 1950s setting and unique situation of the DDD and its existence that we can talk about and theorize as we go about the roleplay. This plotline follows a character recently hired by the DDD, a fresh face to the building and a resident herself. She's dedicated to her job and the attractive face certainly helps. Her shifts are long but there's enough time in between for her to try and be a good neighbor in a time of growing isolation.
I am also open to this plot with Nacha against a female oc.
Skyrim
oc x oc
- skyrim is a large game with lots to explore and characters you can be. This roleplay could focus more on adventure or could even be more of a slice of life depending on the characters and chosen questlines to explore. Mostly I'm looking for a mix of both and I'm hoping to either follow the events of the games main storyline or play a follower of the dragonborn.
Fandomless:
Slice of Life
Ceo x Employee/secretary
- Muse A is only getting older and although he has no intentions of dating, his Father/Mother is pushing him to get married and frustrated with Muse A's lack of interest decides to set him up on several blind dates. One of these dates happens to be a close friend of Muse B who is very rich and like Muse A refuses an arranged marriage, so instead she sends Muse B on the date with the idea that Muse B will completely ruin the date by being the worst possible partner. The issue? Muse A is head over heels for Muse B, finally finding someone who is different from the usual bunch. Later Muse Bs real identity is revealed, will Muse A accept her? Or will he make her life hell for tricking him?
- Muse A is a CEO of his family company, a very young and sought out bachelor will no real interest in romance. Muse B is an employee at the company headquarters, a very dedicated woman who loves her job and company. She is one of the top employees but due to her position she is not in close contact with Muse A, in fact they have never met with Muse A only knowing about her due to her company profile.
Friends to Lovers
- Our characters have been best friends for quite a few years. They have done almost everything together and hang out almost daily. M/C is a rather overly friendly and seemingly naive. He enjoys painting and desperately wants to pursue his dream of attending art school however he is being pressured by his father to pursue a "real" career just as he did. Y/C is his best friend, someone who always supports him in any endeavor but also is his voice of reason as M/C can be rather impulsive. You have full control of Y/C and can decide his backstory, personality and goals. Y/C has a crush on M/C and has kept it a secret. Why? That's because M/C is straight, or at least that's how he presents himself, often trying to flirt with girls and get a girlfriend. However, M/C is starting to suspect he might be bisexual but due to his father being homophobic he refuses to deal with those feelings. In the straight version, the reason is due to not wanting to ruin the friendship as well as family disapproval.
Im also open to other plots/fandoms that may not be listed here. Regarding NSFW it will be discussed in private.

HSHQTASK059: FAREWELL !
when did you join ? what made you join ? what do you remember from the plotlines that were current at the time ? where were you in life when you joined and where are you now ?
it was either a promo or an ad for ani's wc. either way the wc was a main reason ! i also wanted to use rosie so bad and she fit into the oranje-nassau look !!!! joce was so nice and after talking to her it was a no brainer kgjdbsgjkb
which characters have you written over the years ?
femke, inari, alexei, zahra/vita, marcello, henrique, asta (she lasted for a hot minute)
what is your favourite plotline that you've been part of ?
a plotline that kept me laughing was the last invasion and writing marcello's inner monologue. it was so much fun to write everything to have a double meaning depending on whether you knew the upcoming plot twist or not kgbsdjgb but i think annexei means the most to me, or at least the way it allowed me to shape alexei. alexei was the kind of character that surprised me every now and then. a special mention goes to the love triangle between samke and kris. i had never written and i have never written later, a cheating plot so i guess i'll drink to that akgbdsjg
what about other people's plotlines ?
i loved the lawn chair thing. it was so stupid and it inspired me a bit. i had struggled with muse and it sort of reminded me how fun rping was. but hmm... on a more serious note, it would have to be some event. possibly the monaco nye because the points game made it so wild and i loved every second of it. the threads were amazing and crazy ! one big plotline that i loved to read was the hungary-switzerland-italy thing. as a plot it wasn't the wildest, but i think we got some very interesting interactions out of it. i also love the milvente love child plotline. it became something HUGE. i gotta respect that. who is your favourite character from the ones you've played ? why ? what made you love them ? what made them so fun to write ?
if you could relive a plotline, which would it be ?
the middle of annexei maybe or the beginning of samke. during the middle of annexei, i think i learned to write a bit better and write about emotions. i realized how sad a man alexei was. it sorta broke my heart. samke for nostalgia. i can't believe how far they've come!
is there a plotline that you'd edit now if you could ?
hmmmmmm i think i'd try to write marcello more. i feel like the plot twist wasn't prepped properly. there was a lot of wasted potential.
what's a plotline you wish you would have been able to finish before closing or just write more of ?
i'm actually content. surprisingly. i think storywise i was ready for this. there wasn't much i could have given to femke or alexei. maybe i would have wanted one more thread with anya and alexei and have them either patch things up or at least reach some sort of a conclusion. aaaaand... one more huge group thread with the romanovs/russians, and one with oranje-nassaus. i really miss the olden days when we wrote the oranje-nassau siblings. they are my faves for their wholesomeness. the romanovs are precious for their complexity.
what is your favourite ooc memory ?
it honestly might be joining ? this sounds very cliche but the welcome i received was so warm. i've spent a lot of time chatting with joce, j, eve and julie. i have a hard time letting go of that part of hshq.
where can others find you if they want to get in touch ?
i think i'm retiring for good. i haven't logged on my other accounts in ages. this is it, i think :(
what else would you like to say ?
i hate goodbyes, i really do. like i said earlier, i have finished all of my stories so this feels like a good time to close the shutters. but it hurts. this really hurts because hshq and all of you are very dear to me and i wish i could continue laughing with you guys, get excited over threads, gasp at plot twists ! but you know what they say: it only hurts if it was good! and if there's something hshq was, it was GOOD!!!!! so insanely good!!!!!

What I watched this week 3/13-3/19
this week was a little skimpy because I had to work so much, but fret not I still have plenty of stuff for y'all
The Shining (1980, Dir. Stanley Kubrick)
Tumblr media
Did y'all know I go to the "overlook" (The Timberline lodge up in Mt Hood national forest) every year in the summer? It's a beautiful place. Anyways you'd think with that I'd have seen the shining by now, but nope! This was my first time ever watching it! And man - what a film! Nothing beats a well made horror movie, in my humble opinion, with that sweet spot blend of the meta-physical and the physical threats, threatening, stylistic cinematography, and a small-yet-solid cast of characters portrayed by talented actors really giving it there all makes for such a satisfying watch!
I've never read the original novel, where most of the subtext and themes of those movie -obviously - are drawn from, and I likely never will as I generally dislike fiction. However. I still found the themes permeant and the subtext moving despite not having it in full context. That, in my own opinion, is what makes the Shining such an effective adaptation - although I am rather uninformed as I've only ever heard people talk about the book.
Definitely one of my favorite horror movies -5/5
Enemy (2013, dir. Denis Villeneuve)
Tumblr media
Okay so I'm just gonna be frank - I am bad with metaphors and symbolism. I can understand character growth, plot structure, timelines, cinematography, lighting, peroid accuracy, and all sorts of more technical and object elements of a movie. I mostly critique based off of these things, I stay in my lane. It's not that I can't ever understand a metaphor or pick up on any forms of symbolism, it's just not really how my brain works.
That being said, I still really really enjoyed this movie. It was a well made slow paced pysch. thriller that tackles adultery and cheating in a way I've never seen a movie do before. Villeneuve's style, as always, adds such a rich, amazing, and lonely air to the film - one which I think helps enhance it's message.
To condense, this is a film about double lives, about two drastically different halves inside one body. It's about secrets and hiding and ultimately letting the facade all down and the chaos all of that will cause in one's life (illustred quite well by the ending scenes of the film.)
I can't really describe this film, just go watch it for yourself. Unless you can't stand spiders. 4.5/5
Halloween (1978, Dir. John Carpenter)
Tumblr media
After marathoning all 6 Scream movies over the course of 2 weeks, my hopes were really low for Halloween. Specifically because Scream, at least the first one, is a pretty self admitted satire of tropes Halloween brought to the table. But I was really surprised with how good this one was!
I don't really know why? Maybe it's because I don't tend to super love what is super popular? But I'm happy to say Halloween holds up and is a genuinely creepy slasher. John Carpenter's slow, meandering style really lends itself well to the genre - making the final kills feel well deserved and establishing a true sense of fear in the audience. Especially with how hidden Michael Meyer's is from the camera for the first 2 acts.
This films lighting and cinematography are also on another level, the way the film gets both literally and tonally darker as the day drags on, the way Michael is always kept in the shadows, the intimate, stalker-esque camera... It's amazing!
Me and the friend I watched Scream with are doing the same thing but for the Halloween franchise now, but less frequently cause there's no upcoming film. So stay tuned as I work my way through 9 more fucking Halloween movies.
This movie was really well made, though not something I would consider a personal favorite. 4/5.
Breaking Bad Season 4 (2011 shrn. Vince Gilligan)
Tumblr media
So I'm just about finished with season 4 and hollllyyyyyyy shit Vince Gilligian is a mastermind. I've really been enjoying the plotline with Hank catching up to Walt + Gus, and am really excited for the payoff in S5. Jesse's arc continues to carry the show and I want nothing but the best for this man. Please oh god Mike just help this man he NEEDS it.
The scene where he went back and cussed out his old rehab therapist was *amazing* and really hit home with just how far gone he thinks he is and gives you a really good look into his pysche. Speaking of Pysches Walt's undoing is finally starting to rear it's head and boy howdy am I ever ready for that clown to kick the bucket. Fuck that guy.
I also really enjoyed the Gus backstory, and Max's death is probably one of my favorite scenes in the entire series (is that a spoiler? i don't think so...) Anyways brba continues to be a masterpiece and you'll be seeing more of dis.

Frontiers Progress Part 2
Finished Ares Island and i think I’m halfway through Chaos, hard to tell cause the island soooo big but I get into that later
Another rundown
- Ares Island right now is my favorite island, their just so many cool landmark and set pieces to find around here so dessert themed island. It really encourages you to explore everywhere and its managable to traverse.
- The Super Sonic boss is also ste up from the first just fun speculate feel with wyern and a cool scene trigger if you can do it. I still think I like the first one more than the second tho.
- As much as I like Amy, Knuckles stuff has been amazing and refreshing so see as more grounded portrayal of him. Like Amy it feels they were progress their SA1 plotlines and expanding on what they really wanna do in life.
- I also hope that means Knuckles can finally not be attached to Angel Island as much (at least in a sense of not needing an explaination to leave) him and Sonic banter I want more of.
- Chaos Island has been a mixed bag for me, on the one hand its alot of creative set pieces and the idea of traveling to mini island is nice, but unlike Ares it feels lot of landmakr blend in so its harder to find your way there.
- I had friends in the call who helped me guide to story progress cause for them they had to pull up a guide, I admit I cheat on getting the blue emerald by using a bird enemy.
- Also Squid is cursed for me I failed so many times on the boss chase just cause I was 1. not double jumping properly and 2. breaking the sequence that i keep not reaching the path. I admit partly it was my faults but that was a frustarting experience.
- Big was easier to find and also this point learned how broken he actually is, only really used him for Egg Memo cause I wanna play the game properly.
- The 2D gimmick here is neat but I need very fickly from switch to 3D to 2D. I think the best way to describe Chaos Island is there alot of neat ideas but its way too ambious that it can get tedious if you just want to progress.
- Which is a shame because I am luving both the lore dump and Tails’ plotline so far, I still salty bout Forces but I appreciate trying expand upon why he acted the way he did in that game and growing from it.
- I think I understand why they put Tails on the third island cause he’s immedialy figuring out the lore XD
- Also give huge props to how Sage is both writing and voice acting wise, for such an unemotive range the subtle range and wording you can tell she is becoming alot more conflicted on letting Sonic perish to his fate and not asking as hosile to him. Its certainly becoming a dynamic I’ve been enjoying.
- I last stopped at the cutscene between Tails and Sage, I just think the scene is really good example of character writing in this game for a conversation I didn’t expect but enjoying what I got.
Anywho I am making the mistake of 100% Chaos Island wish me luck!

Oh patron saint of mpreg, tell us, what is the absolute gold standard canon divergent mpreg scenario with Cas and Dean?
so for me the gold standard is for cas to get pregnant due to some kind of magical or metaphysical situation that dean at least does not perceive as sex. bonus points is cas is hesitant about it but refuses to explain why (because he doesn't know how dean will deal with the concept of himself being able to potentially get cas pregnant), so dean is like "we're doing it anyway" and then they do it and then cas doesn't tell anyone that he is pregnant until circumstances force the information out of him. and then dean has to deal with the fact that 1) cas can get pregnant, 2) cas is pregnant, 3) it's his, and he does so pretty poorly.
the rest is under a cut because this post is over 2.5k words long.
my favorite times for this to happen are at the end of season nine, just before dean dies and gets demonized in do you believe in miracles, and at the start of season twelve, just before sam and dean go to jail, because the pining in both those scenarios is delicious but it is so much more powerful if cas is also pregnant, and never even told dean. double points if the truth somehow comes out while they're separated so when dean comes back it's like. yeah cas is pregnant. it's yours. welcome home dean now you have to coddle cas' emotions because he thought he would have to raise your baby alone.
the season twelve scenario is particularly delicious because 1) we can have lucifer slut shaming cas in front of crowley in rock never dies, so crowley knows before dean, and 2) much more importantly, mary is there, and i am obsessed with like. okay. several things.
- the idea of mary getting all baby fever because she misses her boys and this is like. a baby she can take care of because she never got to take care of sam
- the idea of dean working through some of his parentification trauma by coparenting a child with the parent whose place he felt he had to take
- the idea of mary coming in and projecting her insane 1980s gender roles all over cas, suddenly treating him like a woman, stripping him of agency, etc. and like. dean would also do this even though he's not from the eighties, but mary would do it double strength, and they would reinforce each other, it would be a nightmare
- also mary trying to relate to cas on the Travails Of Motherhood etc. and cas being like ?????????? like i cannot stress enough that the weird gender roles she projects onto cas are also standards that she held herself to back when she was a Wife And Mother. while cas is like mary i am not a human woman and also i don't see what "having to look pretty for my man when i'm all baby bloaty" has to do with anything. that's not something i feel like i have to do
oh and 3) could you imagine lily sunder has some regrets if cas was pregnant? unfathomable episode. like ishim and mirabel's reaction but ALSO lily's. and it would fix the number one issue i have with lily sunder, which is that the resolution of the moral dilemma is "well AKSHUALLY the kid was human and not a nephilim so killing it was bad" rather than "it was bad to kill lily's baby, full stop." like ishim's cover up and using the machinery of power to manipulate the truth is very compelling, but the fact that it results in the moral essentially being "it would have been okay if the kid had been a nephilim" suuuuuucks.
basically, there's a reason i have two entire mpreg aus set in season twelve.
and then the delicious part in the season nine version is like. one, dean is away for much longer and he could be anywhere. also he's a demon and he's cheating on cas with crowley. and then even when cas gets him back he's still cursed with the mark, so we can get all weepy over that. you know. i'm the one who's going to have to watch you murder the world and i'm eight months pregnant. etc etc.
but the other thing that's juicy about this version is that cas is still semi-involved with the other angels at this point, like he's roadtripping around with hannah and they're trying to get heaven under control, so carrying a nephil is going to really affect those relationships. so he's going to be probably disliked by the other angels, and there are MANY opportunities for slut-shaming, but at the same time, the other "outcast" type angels might respect him for violating heaven's dictates.
and then of course there's his grace vampirism victorian wasting disease. in canon he's perfectly happy to let himself die, but if he were having dean's baby he would absolutely not do that, that's dean's baby he's endangering there. so of course there's the terrible guilt of having to kill other angels so he can live, plus potentially preparing to die shortly after childbirth so he doesn't have to keep killing. delicious.
and on top of all this cas can get slutshamed by metatron in, depending on when exactly he gets knocked up, meta fiction, stairway to heaven, and do you believe in miracles. plus stairway to heaven would be insane like all the angels would know that cas is pregnant. they would see it in his grace. like cas' angel army would just. know that he was pregnant with a nephil, and have to accept that because he's their leader. in love with humanity indeed.
i'm trying to think of other good times for this drama with cas getting secretly pregnant through a nonsexual interaction to take place. it would be great in season six. like: he's doing a blasphemy with his body but at the same time he's this big important rebel leader so they can't say shit about him, and also he's pregnant while fighting these big important battles (fun and sexy), AND this is like, hot on the heels of the realization that something about his feelings for dean is untoward, expands beyond the bounds of ordinary friendship and camaraderie. like he realizes that, and maybe even that he has sexual feelings for dean, and then he gets immediately knocked up. stunning.
it would ALSO be extremely fun for it to be some kind of... i don't know, magical longer gestation times, whatever, but for cas to have gotten pregnant sometime in s5 and only realized during the Year Of Lisa. LOVE to watch a man rake leaves while both metaphorically carrying the taint of taboo sexual feelings for him and literally carrying his child.
but the thing about season six is, first of all, cas isn't really... envisioning a future with dean. not the way he does in the later seasons. like does he fantasize about a future with dean? yes. like. he really did watch that motherfucker rake leaves. but it's only fantasy. he expected to never speak to dean again after swan song until dean prayed to him in the third man. he's obsessed with dean, but it's distant. remote.
like, we talk about cas babytrapping dean in the later seasons with jack, and he absolutely does, and he would do it even more if dean got him literally pregnant, but that babytrap is about... how do i put this. it's about winning dean's affection. late seasons cas knows that he's going to die by dean's side. the difference that babytrapping dean makes is that maybe it will get dean to be nice to him in the mean time, instead of discarding him like so much toilet paper.
but season six cas doesn't think of it like that. if he were gonna babytrap dean, it would be in the more traditional sense of forcing dean to stay with him in order to raise their child together. and he would never do that. he wants dean to have a happy future, which in his mind does not include him. like, compare here "he's retired and he's to stay that way" in the man who would be king, where cas assumes that dean is happy without him and expects him to live out his days peacefully without ever seeing him again, to "i'm the one who's going to have to watch you murder the world" in the prisoner, where cas assumes that he will be by dean's side for centuries.
but anyway, the other, much more important problem with season six is that cas has a war to fight. like, in the later seasons, cas really has nothing. even when he's on tenuous good terms with the angels, he doesn't really have a home with them. the winchesters are his family, and he'd give up anything for them. he has nothing in his life. he's at rock bottom, and this becomes truer the further along you go. late seasons cas has nothing he would prioritize over serving the winchesters, and he would be happy dropping anything he was involved in to have and raise dean's baby. parenting would give him a purpose that he no longer has, because everything else has been stripped from him.
but in season six cas has a life outside of them. like yes, he has a war to fight, but he also has a place in heaven, with the other angels. he belongs somewhere, he has solid connections to the outside world. even if he didn't have a war to fight, i don't know how excited he would be to have and raise a baby (even dean's baby) because he simply has other things he could be doing. he's involved in the world beyond the winchesters.
like, the reason cas wants to be a parent is that he is totally alone and totally purposeless. having a child gives him both a reason for being and someone who will always love him and who he can care for. if he doesn't have that hole in his life he might not be so eager to fill it with a baby.
for all these reasons, this plotline really doesn't work in season six, because you simply cannot justify cas not getting an abortion, unless you do something nasty like make angel abortion impossible, which i don't love.
you COULD somehow put the impregnation just at the end of season six, maybe just before the man who would be king, such that cas doesn't realize he's pregnant until he's already godstiel. you guys are unfortunately very aware of how obsessed i am with pregnant godstiel.
actually, @jeanne-de-valois has a concept of like. a single, madness fueled midnight hookup immediately pre-tmwwbk (or maybe even during, but prior to the superman mistake), where cas is simultaneously so stressed from being stretched so thin from the war and the lying and the shady dealings, and so high on being The Big Man In Heaven, that he's bold and out of his mind enough to actually come onto dean, like he just appears one night in dean's bedroom and is like, fuck me, and dean is like 👁👄👁 okay. so they have one single adrenaline and madness fueled hookup, and then everything immediately goes to shit.
and i think that's a great place for cas to get pregnant, and then he doesn't realize until he's become god, or maybe he does and he's just like "i'll deal with it later," either way godstiel is like oh? i carry dean's heir inside me? i will have dean's baby. i will have dean's baby it is my right and also my boon to him and also a symbol of my great and magnanimous love for humanity. and also maybe i will put giant paintings of myself pregnant with his child up in churches. what about that. which would be fun. don't know when he would give birth though. actually it would be insane if he gave birth as emmanuel and was just like. raising dean's nephil when dean found him again. nuts. but it just doesn't really have the same flavor as late seasons mpreg. doesn't compel me nearly as much. like the symbolism of godstiel being pregnant with dean's child is fun and sexy but them actually raising the kid afterwards doesn't compel me nearly as much, so it's better to leave literal mpreg to the later seasons and let godstiel mpreg reside in symbolism and fantasy.
or maybe the fetus gets stolen by the leviathans when cas walks into the lake and dean has to battle his leviathanated nephil daughter as the main villain of s7. like she's dick roman's secret weapon. i think that would be fun, actually. kind of an emma situation but drawn out over the whole season. and he thinks cas is dead for most of it so she's all he's got left of cas and a mess cas left for him to clean up. big sexy.
and as a bonus, i will also tell you the best time, imo, for dean to get pregnant: near the end of season eight. possibly a single, tragic farewell fuck in sacrifice when cas is planning to lock himself away in heaven and they're never gonna see each other again. and this impregnates dean with cas' nephil.
but then cas is human. and he can't do anything about it. like generally if they managed to get dean pregnant somehow, cas would immediately talk him into an abortion (which wouldn't be too hard; dean's natural white midwestern man who doesn't vote aversion to abortion would be at war with the horror of being pregnant, and the horror would win), or might not even inform dean that he's pregnant, and just quietly end the pregnancy without dean's knowledge, because cas would never put dean through that. but if cas is human, he can't do that. and furthermore, that nephil is the last evidence of his angelic nature that persists. it's the last of what he used to be, the last of his grace. and there's something absolutely delectable about that.
then of course dean would have to leave the bunker if he was pregnant with a nephil, because angels would be after him, and he wouldn't want to lead them to gadreel, so i am imagining dean discovering that he's pregnant and then showing up in a panic at the gas n sip like "actually cas i'm also out of the bunker will you go on the run with me?" and then they go on the run and have to live in motels again and cas gets to live with take care of dean who is pregnant with his child which is essentially his dream, and he doesn't have to feel guilty because he's no longer capable of giving dean an abortion so he doesn't feel obligated to get him to have one. ideally cas gets re-angeled just in time to give dean an angelic c-section. or maybe they rely on a normal human c-section in a hospital and cas stays human and they are two humans raising their nephil, which is also fun to me.

Badger Snakes and The "Red-Stained Ledger"
Since my recent announcement identifying as a Badger Snake (don't @ me if I change my primary at some point lol still going back over that one,) I've looked up some characters that have been identified as Badger Snakes, and found two things:
1) There weren't very many in fiction and
2) most go through the same personal journey I had described in my previous post.
By that, I mean, a very similar feeling of self-loathing or feeling as though you have some dirty secret to hide, AKA the Red-Stained Ledger Natasha Romanoff refers to. The two main ones that have been agreed upon I'll be focusing on are Woody from Toy Story and the aforementioned Black Widow, but I'll also be bringing two new characters into the fray, one that's been sorted as such based on the portrayal, and one that I've discovered on my own. They are Selina Kyle AKA Catwoman and Dewey Finn from School of Rock.
It's interesting to find the similar plotlines that certain sortings are given consistently in media, and The Power Behind the Throne AKA Badger Snake seems to pretty much only have the one: They fight for the group that they are loyal to, but they can't seem to help but do so in a way that they aren't proud of, one that they're sure would lead said group to shun them.
I'm sure someone could point out a character I'm not referencing here that doesn't have that plot, but at the very least, this plot dominates the sorting.
Woody in the first movie goes through exactly that issue. He only wants to fight for Andy's toys, and in many ways, all toys he comes across. He makes choices that he believes will benefit everyone, and prides himself on being able to make the "tough choices." But, he ends up having to do so in a "duplicitous" way, when he seeks to manipulate Buzz Lightyear out of his group. This is a horrible, dirty secret to him, and he feels almost as if he could never return to them, never show his face again because of how he chooses to fight. In the end, he reaffirms that his actions come from a good place, a place of love for his group, and finds ways to use his crafty talents that are slightly more constructive and a little less "cloak and dagger."
Natasha Romanoff has given me the namesake for this Badger Snake element: the Red-Stained Ledger. She describes her desire to fight for her country, for her family, but struggles with what she knows she's good at. She believes she's inherently a bad person and is determined to remain a loner due to her "badness," due to the "monster" she is. Good people don't lie or manipulate. Good people... uh... I dunno, bake cakes or something? Work humble jobs? But, her contribution to the world, her ability to be clever and tricky, means that holding her group, her country, her family, the Avengers themselves, only in her heart and not in her hands. But, her true colors are shown in her never-ending dedication to the cause, down to her being willing to give her life so that no one else has to do it. In a way, it's sad, because she died believing she in some way deserved it. But, none of her teammates felt that way about her. She may have been crafty, a master manipulator, and a skillful liar, but she was the farthest thing from bad.
Now, onto the two newer additions. I've seen Selina Kyle sorted as Double Snake, and I would agree that there are many interpretations that could fit the bill. But, if you ask me, the truest interpretation of her is as The Power Behind the Throne, the Robin Hood with no loud cause to shout from the rooftops; only a desire to help the people of Gotham. She uses her skills as a thief to act as a sort of "guardian angel" to the poorest in Gotham, but she has no grand statement to make. She sees people hurting, her group, the underdogs of Gotham, and came to their aid. But she does so quietly, secretly, because she believes in her heart that the way she has done so is not worthy of praise. She's a con and a thief, but, she places people above all else. She, in some interpretations, is one of the main people to open Bruce's eyes to the fact that not all criminals are necessarily bad people. Some of them are just in terrible situations they can't get out of. And yet, she won't afford that benefit of the doubt to herself, believing she is simply a broken toy not worth fixing. Her occasionally lackadaisical attitude towards killing may seem to make Badger primary unlikely, but Badgers are not always loyal to ALL humans. Her group is the poor and downtrodden, and those who act against them are less than human in her eyes.
Now, we come to my personal favorite, my own personal discovery: Dewey Finn from one of my favorite movies, School of Rock.
Dewey is a fabulous example of a Badger Snake, in my personal opinion. His chosen group is Rock with a Capital R and "the band," whichever band that may currently be. He may have some sort of Burnt Snake primary performance/model going on, wanting to play the part of a "rock star" that truly only cares about himself, but his true loyalty is very clear. He is worried about doing his chosen group justice in every way, making sure that Rock is being well-represented and that he's serving his current band the very best he has to offer. Being kicked out of his band at the very beginning is earth-shattering to him, not because he has a Snake primary style devotion to only them, but because they told him he let them down, and implying that he wasn't representing Rock the way he should. His Snake primary performance/model melts away as he bonds to his new band, the kids he teaches. He brings them into his chosen group of Rock and creates a new bonded group with them in particular as they form a band. He actually finds himself liberated by taking a backseat to the children (a very Badger primary thing to enjoy,) allowing Zack to play his song, guiding Freddie away from making bad choices, helping Tamika find her voice, encouraging fellow Snake secondary Summer how to use her shrewdness, and, using a method I believe is best utilized by Badger Snakes, helping Principal Mullins find her chill. Lol.
Badger Snakes, more than any other Snake secondary type, will rely on the "we aren't so different you and I" approach to get what they want. He finds out Mullins also enjoys Rock. This is something they have in common! Let's create a situation where we "naturally" find out we have this thing in common, placing us both in the same group. Although other primaries don't glorify groups as much as Badger primaries do, all people are more likely to listen to or help out someone they feel is like them in some way. So, Dewey puts some Stevie Nicks on the jukebox and gets Mullins on his side.
In a similar fashion to the characters listed above, Dewey believes he is truly a loser and has nothing of any actual value or goodness to provide. But, the children help him see he's wrong, and he finds a way to utilize his talents in a way that truly fulfills him.
In conclusion, although seemingly unrepresented, I think there actually may be quite a few more Badger Snakes hiding in media, and, perhaps, they can be outed by looking for the Red-Stained Ledger plotline. Badger primaries are more likely, in my opinion, to be disturbed by their actions than say a Lion primary, due to where their loyalties truly lie. Although Lions may fight for the right thing, and that right thing may involve people's rights or serving a group, they serve that right thing before any of the people they may steamroll over to achieve it. Badgers, by definition, serve things. And, usually, lying, cheating, or otherwise being crafty is viewed as the worst possible way to serve someone or something. They do care about the things they may hurt or damage through their actions, and how they use their talents does, in fact, matter to them immensely.
So, to my Badger Snakes out there struggling with their own so-called "Red-Stained Ledgers", just remember that Dewey Finn would think you're kick-ass.
Tumblr media
EDIT: Sorry, was thinking about it, and had to put an edit. Another way to think of this plotline/character archetype is mentioned in School of Rock as well as in a musical I know very well. I wouldn't use this moniker as the name for this plotline, only because it describes a very specific Snake secondary, one that is playful and light-hearted, and not all Snake secondaries are like this.
Zack's song refers to Dewey as The Magic Man, a person that swoops in and, almost by magic (in actuality, manipulation) brings out the best in the people around them. In the aforementioned musical, this character is called The Music Man.
Harold Hill may very well be another Badger Snake, although one more heavily disguised than Dewey Finn. I won't go too deep into his characterization here, but know he's a conman who claims to be a band instructor, while he has no musical talent himself, planning on taking the money for the uniforms and instruments and running. Instead, almost without realizing it, he encourages and manipulates the people of the town he enters into becoming better versions of what they are now. And, the most tragic part of his character is revealed once another character, one of the children he's conned, points out that there isn't a band, and never has been one. Harold tells him "I always think there's a band, kid."
It's interesting that, in both of these cases, they are associated with music and an almost mystical ability to bring out the best in others. I might do a more in-depth look at Harold Hill at some point, since I've been planning on doing some musical characters for a bit.
If thinking about having a Red-Stained Ledger is too negative for your own self-image, think of yourself as The Music Man. Your friends and the people around you may actually see you as an almost mystical force for good, someone who always seems to know the right thing to say or do to bring out the best in them. :)

Okay, I'm not on mobile now, so I can actually type this:
For me, the breaking point for Blaine was in the S4/5 hiatus. I think I've mentioned this before, but it wasn't even so much Blaine himself as a character that precipitated this, but just the DEGREE of harrassment from his stans that led to a LOT of Kurt multishippers just completely abandoning Klaine because of fandom politics.
(Add into that, even at the time of late S4 I was of the opinion that "Maybe Kurt and Blaine could work things out, but they need to completely start from scratch, not jump into an engagement.")
... So anyway, I never watched S5b when it first aired. I'd stepped back from the show after 5x03, and was only peripherally familiar with the rest of S5 and the only S6 episode I watched before 2021 was Child Star because someone recommended the Spencer/Alistair plotline to me.
All of which is to say: DEAR GOD S5b Blaine is possibly the worst I've ever seen him.
I can come up with justifications for a lot of his S2 actions... his S3 actions except for the assault... his S4 actions aren't great, but like... Everyone on Glee cheats, it's not a specific issue with Blaine... But his S5b actions?! Jesus tapdancing Christ I hate him there.
Just the back-to-back onslaught of that Blaine & Elliott plot, then the Bash/Tested double-bill... I'm sorry, I just CANNOT forgive Blaine for Tested.
(And yes, Kurt wasn't... entirely reasonable in Tested, either... but Blaine was WAAAAY worse and in WAY more ways.)
First of all screw you and thank you for giving me the mental image of Jesus Christ tap dancing.
Seconds, I completely agree. Personally, my breaking point was between season 3 and 4. Or, well, technically season 4 had started but it came to Sweden months later so I knew Blaine cheated thanks to the internet but the season hadn't technically begun for us yet.
You're completely correct, season 5 and especially 5b is where he becomes completely unforgivable. Whilst I do hate him in every season, I think if the show had ended at the end of season 4 I could've still seen an argument for him not being that much worse than anyone else.
But in Tested he straight up ADMITS to wanting Kurt to vulnerable and dependent on him. Like he tells the audience that "Hey, I don't feel comfortable in a relationship where my partner is equal to me and I want to have all the power. Yup, that's me, I'm an abuser." How in the hell can you watch that and still be pro-Blaine afterwards??? The length to which Blaine stans will bend over backwards to justify liking him is just absolutely wild to me.
(I will also say that one of my least favourite individual Blaine moment is when Kurt breaks up with him and he says that he'll "never forgive you for this." Forgive him for what, Blaine??? Not staying in an abusive relationship???)
Also, on the note of Blaine and Klaine stans harassing people: Never in my entire life have I seen that level of harassment within any other fanbase. Like they will straight up go onto the accounts of people who don't like B/Klaine and ask why they don't like them just so they can tear their reasoning down and try to convince you to like B/Klaine. Idk man, maybe if you need to bully people into liking your faves then your faves might just suck. At this point, I'm just convinced that the reason why they harass people the way they do is because they're trying to assure themselves that they're in the right.

Hey! I love your thoughts on bad tv and I’d love to hear a series wrap up on CAOS if you want to make a post about it. If not no worries and thanks for posting your thoughts on the show over the last year. Loved them and love your blog too!
Thank you!! Sure I can totally do a series wrap up, pretty much right now, in response to this ask.
So, if I had to distill my issues with this series into a few bullet points it would be:
-plot -world building/continuity -characters
Plot
CAOS struggles with plot, and I think the biggest reason why, is they just seemed to completely lose track of what the hell they were doing lol. Season 1, ends up being the tightest season because the plot was simple: Sabrina’s dark baptism and her leaving her mortal life behind to become one with witchkind. They beat us to death with the Satan stuff, and they cram as much corny imagery as possible in, even if it doesn’t really make sense.
Tumblr media
why are they having class in a hallway? Do witches not use technology? Why is that blackboard so small? Why isn’t this just a normal classroom setting?
Tumblr media
Sabrina’s Season 1 character arc is also clear: she decides, fuck the rules, she’s going to straddle both worlds and everyone’s just gonna have to accept it. It’s not good, but it’s clear. S2, 3, 4 get completely lost in all this other weird stuff. Sabrina is actually not her father’s daughter, but Satan’s, and that plotline goes absolutely nowhere when Sabrina conveniently doubles herself (and experiences 0 consequences for it) and rules hell while also staying in Greendale as herself (seriously, it’s not like satan was dying or anything, he was perfectly fine. For what reason did Sabrina need to become Queen? There’s no answer or explanation for that, she just...did. Ok :/).  Father Blackwood goes apeshit and pulls a Jonestown, for no real reason, CAOS starts leaning heavily into this white feminism stuff (for godsake, the coven kills a DEMON, with the fucking pain of childbirth?! Are you SERIOUS??) Then, s3, it’s about losing their powers because Satan is childish and petty, and a new group of spellcasters are out to kill the witches, and Prudence and Ambrose hunting Blackwood. S4, the eldritch terrors, which honestly, make so little sense, I couldn’t even be bothered. Each season, CAOs falls deeper into the trap of trying to up the ante, make the danger BIGGER, WILDER, more insurmountable, while being completely unprepared to stay consistent with their characters/motivations and undercutting their own BIG ideas with stupid, nonsensical solutions (let me trap this all powerful eldritch terror by taking it to a party, proposing and luring it into a magicked dollhouse...wtf?).
Worldbuilding/Continuity
What I hate most about these writers for Riverdale and CAOS is that they just don’t feel beholden to being consistent in their worldbuilding and continuity. I don’t find anything cool about kids living in houses with old tvs and rotary phones, but then having a cell phones or wearing modern clothes. Historical anachronisms like that should serve a purpose.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It COULD be interesting if the conceit is that Zelda and Hilda are OLD, so they take comfort in old things like that, but then that should be specific to the Spellman house, and it should be weird. People should take note of it when they’re there, Sabrina should be conscious of it because she grew up in a time where TVs didn’t look like they were stuck in the 50s. But instead, it’s just...a stupid mess of aesthetic anachronisms for no reason other than they can do it and I just find that to be lazier than utilizing those details in an interesting way.
In season 1, we get a relatively clear idea that the witches have a certain way of life, that bleeds into season 2. It’s still very sloppy; the anti-pope, using satan where we’d use “god”, introducing the feast and other dangerous parts of being a witch, and essentially just doing the opposite of christianity (except for the racism/sexism ofc. That would require too much thinking I guess). But by season 3, essentially the witches’ way of life have been completely turned upside down. And we never...unpack that. There’s no mourning for literal millennia of supposed tradition, there’s no real floundering or struggling. There are apparently no other adults AT ALL in this magical world outside of Blackwood, Zelda and Hilda, so there’s no real way to get a sense of the REALITY of losing their way of life for these witches, or this world. Is it even a world? Or just a handful of people? Lol. What it means to have to choose a new god to pray to, and is there an divisiveness over who? In Harry Potter, the kids’ parents are tangentially involved when they start pulling their kids out of Hogwarts. Do any of these kids’ parents pull them out of the school when they start praying to Lilith and then Hecate? Do any of the boys have issues with moving from a male god to a female one? Where did all these kids come from if they didn’t have parents and families? Is this witch world just...the school? Why? It would have been interesting watching the witches struggle and scramble to regain their powers while also being hunted by this new, threatening group whose magic seems to be much older, much darker. But instead, they just pivot, and have a fucking picnic before the full moon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s nothing interesting about characters just constantly pivoting around obstacles without having any real emotional reaction, any real struggles. Obstacles like losing their powers, should be an actual obstacle. They should struggle, there should be emotional weight, and consequences. Instead, Sabrina continues to break rules to suit her agenda, put her friends and family and risk and everyone just...rolls with it. No one is angry at Sabrina for the loss of their powers? Her choice to not become Queen of hell is why they lost their powers right? No one has feelings about that? Sabrina isn’t ostracized? We never see the way these choices, or the overarching plot obstacles impact the characters emotionally. Instead, they’re doing this stuff:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which is completely ridiculous to me. It all just...HAPPENS. Which is this entire series. Stuff happens, and the characters just, do stuff in reaction to it. Harvey, Theo and Roz are ostensibly human, living human lives. They end up getting pulled into Sabrina’s world, and no one has any strong feelings about that? Harvey’s brother is killed, Roz is turned to stone and Theo talks to his dead great aunt and none of them are haunted by any of that? No? They just decide to create a faux scooby club to fight demons?  Ok. And that cheerleading things is over as quickly as we see it. Stuff like this is insanely frustrating to watch because it makes the show a nonsensical slog to sit through. There’s nothing interesting or engaging to latch onto because they just hammer through it all and make up stupid solutions to get themselves out of the impossible stakes they threw the characters in in the first place. They introduce ideas and discard them just as quickly. An ex:angels show up, start killing people, Sabrina channels satan and kills them, and then that’s the last of those guys. Metatron (jfc even the name is stupid) shows up and is killed just as quickly.  Why bother introducing them then? Why bother do any of the things you’re currently doing in this show if you have no intention of seeing it through?
Characters
No one on this show gels, at all.  I don’t believe Theo/Roz/Harvey/Sabrina have been friends for ages. I don’t believe Sabrina and Nick are “end game” (why the hell do we keep saying this riverdale? It’s stupid and senseless). I don’t believe any of these relationships at all. Part of this is because the cast have no chemistry with each other:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
they do not look like a friend group or couples at all, these are a bunch of people paired together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But also because they weren’t consistent at all.
Father Blackwood went from a witch/warlock purist, to a raging sexist, to a cult leader who killed his followers, to a raging maniac bent on hitler-esque destruction in 4 seasons...for nothing. It served no purpose. He didn’t even DO anything. He was nice to the Eldritch Terrors, and became immortal...for nothing. He killed the coven, for nothing. He killed his wife in childbirth, for nothing. Zelda stole the baby, for nothing. None of that amounted to anything worth while in the entire series. So what was the point?  Zelda marrying Faustus also made no sense and only happened to show JUST how sexist he was! But why? WHY? We don’t receive explanations for character behaviour, and when we do, it still makes no sense.
Sabrina breaks all these rules and experiences ZERO consequences. At all times, and it makes her a terrible main character. Everyone else abides by the rules but she doesn’t and doesn’t have to pay for that? Why? She straddles both worlds instead of committing to one, and that was the closest we got to seeing consequences for her. Everyone rushes in to help Sabrina break rules instead of holding her accountable for feeling above them. Sabrina creates 2 versions of herself, and they sloppily tie in that all the realms are converging in on each other because of what she did. Except she and Sabrina Morningstar had been hanging out...ostensibly for days/weeks/months (who knows? Not this show!) before we saw any potential issues, and then we end up finding out that this is about the next eldritch terror, not about Sabrina existing as a double in 1 universe. People get upset for a second and then move on to help her. So why have rules in this world at all if it means nothing to break them?
Nick goes through literal hell, and immediately cheats on Sabrina because of how a man made of clay looked at her. That’s laughable to me. It makes no narrative sense. Their relationship doesn’t even make sense.
Roz and Harvey spend 90% of their time almost fucking. It’s bizarre. Their getting together was random and every single scene with them alone in it is like a precursor to fucking and I don’t get why. This show does not grasp how to build up relationships. Also do these kids not have parents? Theo and Harvey stay having constant sleepovers with their respective partners, in their parents’ houses? Really? At seventeen? Lol k.
I feel like, if CAOS were better thought out, it could have actually been interesting. But it was just a smorgasbord of stuff happening, and characters doing stuff, and none of that following in any real narrative way. Storytelling has structure for a reason, and a show with a good story structure usually yields an enjoyable watching experience. CAOS is a pretty strong example of how throwing that out and relying so heavily on aesthetics and still taking the show so seriously it’s not even fun terrible, gets you nowhere. Ultimately I’m glad it’s over.

Look not to be Buffy on main but anybody who says Season Six was worse than Season Four CLEARLY DOESN’T REMEMBER SEASON FOUR
Like, season four had the cursed beer episode and the weird plotlines about Buffy’s sex life and Riley’s goober face was everywhere and not only did Adam suck x 3000 but Maggie Walsh also sucked and then like the fact that the government knows about Slayers is swept under the rug and also Oz cheating on Willow and then trying to murder Tara and it was so fucking RACIST like--
At least Season Six had “Double Meat Palace” and “Once More With Feeling” and “Life Serial”. At least Season Six had Dark Willow and more Anya.
It is because Season Four didn’t have Dawn??? Is that why it gets ranked higher??? Did “Hush” trick you all into thinking Season Four was good??? BECAUSE IT WASN’T.

The Olivia Experiment
*starts well with the ace group with a nice turn out (and a bit of diversity), having ace discussions. It seems to mean that at least the movie accepts ace as a real identity.
*3 minutes in goes to shit because even after Olivia expresses ace-esque thoughts about society's sex obsession, the leader says "Sometimes people use asexuality to hide. It's about finding the right fit."
What the no-fuck? !?! Ace groups wouldn't turn away questioning people like that.
*Her roommate (?) then gives his two cents: "For the record, I don't think you're asexual." When Olivia says "It's just something I've been thinking about/giving it a try (?), he goes "You might give sex a try. " Then she freaks out and goes "Too much pressure!"
I'm like 4 minutes in. Urgh.
*lots of aphobia, internalized (if I have sex I will become somewhat more typical human being) and external (very sex normative, you don't have the life experience to teach Modernism and Realism, life experience =love and sex) *her mother appears and gives a horrible rant about 'all these damn sexualities'
*early she blew up at her class, kinda making her seem irrational (they don't pay attention to her so she rants at them about only caring about their next date or screw)
*it's incredible uncomfortable to watch her try to have sex. She's uncomfortable and clearly doesn't want it/is repulsed by it. *ETA I do think the overall tone is humorous and affectionate. I'm not sure how to phrase that. It's uncomfortable but also funny in a good way. Because she's never actually forced to do anything.
*and yet everyone tells her to do it (except neighbor Ray, I'm wondering if he's a semi-love interest? At 54mins) (spoiler he is!)
*odd anti-sex work line (what is sex to you? Natural progression -Profession? -Progression -Oh, good. I was scared) *sex work is work
*peer pressure to try weed
*lots of 'how are you a virgin at 27' -I'm currently 32 and happily a virgin
(Had to take a break)
*before I watched this, I knew there was a 'lesbian realizes she's bi' plot. It's very much a YMMV plotline. The character is CJ, Olivia's camerawoman and she does have a bit of a flirty dynamic with Julian, the guy Olivia is experimenting with, and except for being willing to sleep with any woman available Julian is a decent guy, it's maybe not that bad. Part of it is that we don't see Julian with Olivia's friend Felisha a lot nor do we see CJ with a woman (except for a reference to on stage making out between Olivia and CJ in Bye Bye Birdie), and CJ does say 'I think I might be bi' after she's attracted to Julian, so it's not like she's dequeered. But their relationship starts out as cheating. And Olivia has a weird reaction to it. Anyway if you are bothered by that stuff (and that's mostly ok), best to skip this movie.
*Julian and Olivia do end up sharing a good kiss that Olivia describes as giving her a 'je ne sais quoi' feeling, and 'giving her hetero leanings', she wasn't sexually attracted to Julian ultimately
*she doesn't have sex and realizes that it's not for her
*in the end, it's implied she gets together with her neighbor who holds her hand right after she tells him that she'll never be into sex. It seemed he might be similarly inclined
*she doesn't end up identifying herself as anything but she says that 'the gray zone is not a bad place to be'.
*I do wonder about that really weird rejection by the ace group in the beginning. Plus her gay roommate telling her 'I don't think you're asexual', kinda in the same way a fatphobe might say 'you're not fat, you're beautiful', acting like you can't be both. Like, it seemed like James the roommate was trying to comfort her. Like being ace was the worst.
Having that be the start of her exploration really didn't help. Like, it's possible those things kept her from truly embracing her aceness, because she was told 'you're not like us' and 'you shouldn't be like them'
*Overall I ended up liking it a lot more than I thought. I enjoyed Olivia as a character, and I thought lot of the aphobia was realistic. The plot summary and the beginning were the worst but overall Olivia gained internal and a bit of external (Ray, her mother apologizes for her awfulness, James is an OK friend) acceptance of herself. She doesn't get to define herself with a label but she becomes OK with questioning and not having an answer.
For a 2012 film, it has issues but considering H*use MD's awful Better Half episode came out the same year (Jan vs Nov? ) this is much better. Even compared to On Chesil Beach, a 2017 film about an (assumed) ace woman forcing herself to have sex with her husband on their wedding night, this is a lot better. (The issue with OCB is the fact it loses interest in Florence and her pov disappears in the end when it really shouldn't have)
I can see myself rewatching this a decent amount.
And of course, I am just one ace (double demi). Others can disagree. Especially Olivia's character can rub people the wrong way because she's very socially awkward.

the mike schur-verse fic i want to write
okay so b99, the office, parks and rec and the good place are all in the same universe-ity
get it? because they all go to the same college,,,
parks gang all lives in one big house together just off campus. accounting major ben, poli-sci/history double major leslie, nursing major ann, business major tom and jean-ralphio, art major april (chris, andy, donna, and ron are undecided). they’re all best friends and leslie makes everyone pancakes in the morning and they have movie nights together. the sapersteins and rich kids that live iun a house next door to them
The Office characters all live in the dunder-mifflin dorm hall (it’s co-ed for story purposes). mostly business majors of course- jim and dwight are roommates, michael’s the RA, erin is michael’s adopted sister. art student pam is dating football star roy anderson, business major jim is dating cheerleader katy. dwight is “assistant (to the) resident assistant”. david wallace is the student in charge of the administration oiffice and michael calls him whenever there’s the slightest issue happening, jan is the senior girl who michael’s in lover with. holly transfers halfway through the year from another school
the football team is the warehouse workers, andy dwyer, terry jeffords, and jason mendoza. chris and ron are student assistant coaches
michael realman is the philospohy professor who also helps out in architecture classes sometimes. eleanor cheated on her tests to get into a presigious philosophy and ethics class, chidi is the “”golden boy”” with straight a’s and was valedictorian, tahani’s parents paid her way into college and she desperately wants to prove herself, jason is on a football scholarship. jason and eleanor are best friends
janet is the savant genius girl who graduated college at age 16. she’s micheal’s assistant and they’re best friends even though she’s 22 and he’s in his late 60s. like, her apartment (which is super minimalist and the only decor is cacti) is a block away from his huge, cluttered, academic mansion and they have dinner together all the time and have a great father-daughter relationship. janet befriends team cockroach because they’re pretty much the same age
team cockroach got its name when a HUGE cockroach was in eleanor and chidi’s apartment and they freaked out and had to call tahani and jason to help them get it out and it took them ten minutes because it went behind a couch
b99 crew! criminal justice majors (NOT cops, 1312, but i couldn’t think of any other major for most of them so if anyone has any suggestions lmk) excpt charles (culinary arts) and gina (dance). jake, gina, rosa, and charles are roommates, terry is a football player, holt is dating the TA for the most respected classics professor, amy lives alone and spends all her time with jake, gina, rosa, and charles
crossovers? i kind of want an arc where eleanor and jake participate in a dna-related project for one of amy’s classes and discover that they’re half siblings. michael and leslie are friends. terry comes to parties at the parks gang’s house that chris hosts for the football team and brings some of the 99 (they’re called the nine-nine in this because the apartment building they live in is called the 99). pam and april are in the same art show a few times. jason and andy are friends.
i have a few plots planned out (it’ll probably be a collection of stories)- roy cheats on pam with katy, and j&p have to deal with the fallout. the angela/andy/dwight Happens. i can’t decide between annslie and benslie, but there’ll be a lot of parks gang domestic fluff (making breakfast together! falling asleep on the couch during movie nights! leslie&chris friendship, becaue we all need more of that!). michael scott’s chaotic disaster of a love life. janet goode, a literal member of mensa, falling for a man who once kissed a BAT on a DARE. dad feriend!terry jeffords. jason dating tahani in a spectaular move of compulsiove heterosexuality and reboudnig from a crush on a cute TA. eleanor making out wirh chidi when they were both vlackout drunk, something only janet remembers. peraltiago accidentally adopting a cat? rosa and gina possible dating?
cameos from the Greendale Lucky Seven and the occupants of Loft 4C, maybe, because I can’t not include some of my favorite sitcom disasters
anyways. if literally anyone is interested in this let me know and if there’s any plotlines, crossover or otherwise, you want to see i’m open to suggestions.

2020 READING RECAP!
This year sucked ass in so many ways, but it might be the best year of reading I’ve ever had. I discovered so many new favorites, revisited some old favorites, and even read a few books multiple times. In this post, I’ve listed my top five favorite books from this year in the order that I read them because I don’t think I could possibly rank them against each other. They have all become some of my favorite books of all time. I’ve also included a few honorable mentions which are ranked with my favorite listed first. And lastly, I have two notable rereads of some old favorites. I also added links to each book on goodreads and bookshop so you can easily add anything to your tbr or buy it! This is going to be a long one, so buckle up. Without further ado, here is an overview of the books I read in 2020!

Beartown and Us Against You by Fredrik Backman
(Yes, I know I’m kind of cheating by counting this as one book but just roll with me here) Beartown takes place in a tiny community in rural Sweden which is defined by their hockey club. When the junior hockey team has a chance at winning the national championships, the entire town throws their full support behind them. The burden of the pride of their community rests on the shoulders of a handful of teenage boys. For one, the pressure boils over and he commits an act of violence that leaves a young girl traumatized, and the entire community divided.
Late one evening toward the end of March, a teenager picked up a double-barreled shotgun, walked into the forest, put the gun to someone else's forehead, and pulled the trigger.
This is the story of how we got there.
These two books were downright spectacular. Over the course of this year, I’ve completely fallen in love with Backman’s writing style (we love a good onomatopoeia) but more than anything else I just adore his characters. Each one is multidimensional, and even the most infuriating residents of Beartown have their redeeming qualities. I also love the attention he gives to even the side characters whose motivations shape the story even if they only appear for a few scenes. These are stories about right and wrong, courage and fear, and most of all, humanity itself. I laughed and cried and felt more emotions than I thought was possible. Beartown was amazing, but I actually thought that the sequel, Us Against You, somehow surpassed it, so make sure to read both!! (TW: rape/sexual assault)

When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi
Paul Kalanithi was thirty-six years old and on the verge of completing a decade’s worth of training to become a neurosurgeon when he was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. His memoir, When Breath Becomes Air, follows his journey from being a naïve medical student, to a brilliant neurosurgeon at Stanford, to being a cancer patient and a new father confronting his own mortality.
I began to realize that coming in such close contact with my own mortality had changed both nothing and everything. Before my cancer was diagnosed, I knew that someday I would die, but I didn’t know when. After the diagnosis, I knew that someday I would die, but I didn’t know when. But now I knew it acutely. The problem wasn’t really a scientific one. The fact of death is unsettling. Yet there is no other way to live.
This memoir caught me completely by surprise. It was assigned reading for an English class and I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it let alone completely reevaluate my perception of the world around me because of it. Kalanithi discusses learning, medicine, life, and death as he seeks to answer the age-old question, “What makes life worth living?” and the unique perspectives that he offered fascinated me. When Breath Becomes Air is an unfinished manuscript, since Kalanithi died in 2015, but the epilogue written by his wife might just be the best part of the whole book. To tell you that I was sobbing while reading it would be an understatement. The reason why this book made this list is because I finished it in March, but I still think about it relatively often. When Breath Becomes Air has left a lasting impact on my life, and I highly recommend it!

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Evelyn Hugo was a Hollywood legend, but after her sudden departure from show business in the late 80s, she completely fell out of the public gaze. Now she is finally ready to tell the true story about her scandalous and glamorous life and she has specifically chosen Monique Grant, a virtually unknown magazine reporter, for the job. For Monique this exclusive is the opportunity of a lifetime. Evelyn tells her story of ambition, friendship, love, and of course each of her seven husbands. However, it becomes evident that Evelyn’s life has intersected with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways.
It’s always been fascinating to me how things can be simultaneously true and false, how people can be good and bad all in one, how someone can love you in a way that is beautifully selfless while serving themselves ruthlessly.
This. Book. It was absolutely captivating. I’m honestly not even sure what to say here without giving too much away. The plot is truly a wild ride as Evelyn leads Monique through the story of her life. There are so many twists and turns: some that I saw coming and others that completely blindsided me. And that not even to mention Evelyn Hugo herself who is one of the strongest, smartest, most compassionate and deeply flawed characters I’ve ever read about. All the characters were complex and layered, but she was really something else. There were so so many emotions and so many tears and I really don’t know what else to say. I’m begging you to read this book; it will blow your mind.

A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
Ove is a curmudgeon whose life is turned upside down when a young, vivacious family moves in next door. That’s it. That’s the synopsis.
Death is a strange thing. People live their whole lives as if it does not exist, and yet it's often one of the great motivations for living. Some of us, in time, become so conscious of it that we live harder, more obstinately, with more fury. Some need its constant presence to even be aware of its antithesis. Others become so preoccupied with it that they go into the waiting room long before it has announced its arrival. We fear it, yet most of us fear more than anything that it may take someone other than ourselves. For the greatest fear of death is always that it will pass us by. And leave us there alone.
You’ve seen the Pixar movie: grumpy old man meets young person who shows him life is worth living and they become buds etc. etc. Sure, you could essentially boil down A Man Called Ove to that simple plotline but it is so much more than that. It’s heartbreaking and hopeful and you’ll laugh and cry while reading it. This was the most wholesome story I had read in a long time, and I thoroughly enjoyed every last bit of it. I’ve already explained my love of Backman’s unique writing style, but this novel in particular does a beautiful job of tackling deep themes such as grief and purpose with a generous serving of humor. I also just adored the ending. While this book isn’t at all fluffy or entirely lighthearted, it gave me all of he warm fuzzy feelings I was craving. I cannot possibly recommend it enough!

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Elizabeth Bennet and her four sisters must find wealthy husbands because upon their father’s death, the entirety of his estate will be passed on to a male cousin, leaving them penniless. Conveniently, a wealthy gentleman called Mr. Bingley moves into the neighborhood, bringing along his even wealthier although most unpleasant friend, Mr. Darcy.
Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us.
I definitely didn’t think that I was going to enjoy this book nearly as much as I did. The story truly is timeless, and I absolutely adored Elizabeth and Darcy. The biggest surprise I had while reading is that the humor is still funny today and of course Lizzy is fucking hilarious. She is confident, principled, and more than happy to roast the shit out of anyone who deserves it. And then there’s the matter of Mr. Darcy being so sweet and kind (after he stops being an asshole of course) and greatly contributing to the unattainable standards I have for men. It was also nice to have a socially awkward male lead, and in many ways I related more to him than to Lizzy. This book is everything I want from a romance novel plus class criticism and feminism and Elizabeth being an absolute badass. Enemies to lovers is my all time favorite romance trope and I loved reading one of the OGs. Also, I’d just like to add that Mary is the most underappreciated character of the whole novel because she’s really just trying her best. Mostly I was just completely impressed with how this novel has withstood the test of time and it has become one of my favorite classics! Please please give this book a chance even if you don’t typically enjoy classic novels!!

The Martian by Andy Weir
Mark Watney is one of the first people to ever walk on Mars, and now it seems like he’ll be the fist person to die there. A raging dust storm forced his crew to evacuate without him and he finds himself alone on the red planet with the entire world believing him to be dead. This book just barely missed being one of my top five of the year, but it was absolutely amazing. I love reading about people finding clever solutions to problems and that is basically what this entire story is. I maybe understood half of the technical science jargon if I’m being generous, but the story is plenty enjoyable even without extensive scientific knowledge. I adore Mark’s wit and mindset, and I loved watching him wriggle his way out of impossible situations with the odds completely stacked against him. The Martian is a story of perseverance and humanity, but it’s also absolutely hilarious. I highly recommend this one if you haven’t picked it up!!

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng
Shaker-Heights appears to be the perfect place to raise a family. It’s progressive, has low crime rates and is all around an idyllic bubble. This all begins to change when a single mother and her daughter move into town with a disregard for the status quo, and a custody battle erupts, dividing the community. This was a great book that ended up being surprisingly thought provoking, and I particularly enjoyed the novel’s criticism of liberal idealism. The story itself was entertaining and I think it’s definitely worth a read!

Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
Alex Claremont-Diaz is the first son of the United States who finds himself intertwined in a damage control PR stunt with his sworn nemesis, Prince Henry. They have to pretend to be best friends to ensure that their confrontation at the royal wedding doesn’t get in the way of American/British relations. I’m sure you can guess where this is going. This is totally a feel-good love story, but it also finds the time to tackle real issues surrounding politics and societal expectations. I loved this book so much that I read it twice this year (the second time because I was so stressed about the election and I needed to distract myself with the fictional 2020 election that takes place in the novel) and also I’m just a sucker for enemies to lovers. (sidenote: the turkey catastrophe is one of the greatest scenes in literary history and you cannot convince me otherwise) 100% would recommend!

The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
The Jim Dale audiobooks are my ultimate self-care tool when I’m stressed or sad; I just find them to be so comforting and I can’t explain why. Because of this I probably listen to at least one of the books every year, but it’s usually just whichever one I happen to be in the mood for. But it’s been so long since I’ve listened through the entire series, and this year seemed to be the perfect time to do so!
.
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
This used to be my favorite book of all time. I’m pretty sure I first read it in sixth or seventh grade and I’ve reread it so many times since. I’ve been planning on rereading this book my first year of university for such a long time, and the time finally came! The book especially hit hard this semester because Cath feels disconnected from everyone at school because she doesn’t want to go to parties or make much of an effort to find friends, and because of COVID, I ended up in almost the exact same situation, (except unfortunately my roommate doesn’t have a cute ex-boyfriend who hangs out in our room). This was definitely another comfort read like the HP audiobooks and it made me feel a bit better about being stuck in my dorm room.
.
If you actually made it to the end of all that, wow, you’re a real one. I hope you got a few new book recs out of this! If you want to see the thirteen other books I read this year, you can check out my 2020 reading challenge. I read so many amazing books this year I had  hard time narrowing down my favorites, so there are still plenty more great reads that aren’t included in this post. If for some reason you feel like keeping up with the books I read in 2021, follow my goodreads account for dramatic and ranty book reviews. Happy New Year, and here’s to 2021 being full of wonderful books!

How badly did it hurt to write Leonard?
Cory O’Brien (Writer): I actually had a pretty good time writing Leonard. Granted, I didn’t write the big plotline he’s in, but I probably did most of his other cameo appearances, and there’s something really fun about writing a character I know the audience is going to hate. For most of the characters, I’ve got to walk a pretty fine line: many of the ROs are terrible people, but they still have to be likeable. Leonard just sucks ass (sometimes literally), so I got to do all kinds of shitty bits with him and not worry about getting people to like him. Plus, it was really cathartic to get to satirize a kind of behavior that has turned a lot of online spaces toxic. Calling out dudes like Leonard in real life - while important - usually just leads them to double down on whatever fuckery they’re currently perpetrating, but I can dunk on Leonard all day and not worry about getting my house swatted or my mentions shat into.
Maggie Herskowitz (Writer): Are you kidding? That sh*t was therapeutic AF. It was super fun getting to take all the obnoxious, entitled, misogynistic crap I see over and over on the internet and then get to counter it, all in the context of a fun monster world. It also truly made me appreciate the fandom so much (as I always do!) since it reminded me that I haven’t experienced ANY of that behavior from you lovely, lovely people, and as a woman in gamedev I was kinda worried that I would! You guys are amazing, Leonard is the worst, thanks for existing
Julián Quijano (Creative Director & Writer): Writing for Leonard is a delight. First, he is obviously a depiction of some of the most toxic internet behaviors, which is some dope source of inspiration. So sometimes it almost feels like cheating, in the sense you don’t need to flex the source that much to bring it into our absurd territory. Like, for instance, just visit THIS. Also, it feels so good to call out all these behaviors, from internet trolls to toxic fans!
As the main creator I must say creating Leonard was taking a big risk, as we knew some people would be a bit turn off, probably because he may hit a bit too close to home. This is OK: we all have our flaws and maybe seeing some aspects of our behavior ridiculized can helps us grow. In any case, I was a bit worried if his addition could entitle some kind of backlash... but it didn’t! Sure, some people has reacted as expected (some of the DLC bad reviews are basically complains on Leonard being one-note... but I didn’t see that people complaining about lots of our one-note characters, such as the Prince. So, as for now, I choose to believe the true reason is the aforementioned. But hey, most people has been thrilled by his inclusion, as we wrote him in a way most players love to hate him.
