thinking about how honest the hope is in disco elysium, if that makes sense. how you face consequences for the actions and life you can’t remember. how your nightmares come back and they just might be there to stay. how you still wake up in pain and have to very actively fight off the cravings of your old addictions. how it isn’t easy trying to chose not just life, but living better, living for yourself. how it doesn’t mean any of the problems will go away, or the pain will stop, but it gives you an option other than constant suffering. there’s always a silver lining, it’s just a matter of being able to look up and find it.

hope isn’t always easy, and sometimes it is a choice, but in a torn up world and a torn up body, it’s something. it’s not always pretty or perfect, it’s clumsy and sometimes foolish and hard to keep close, it’s difficult, and maybe it’s all you have but it’s something - streets and sodium lights, the sky, the world, you’re alive

think i'm gonna headcanon that it was actually uncommon for grisha to merge bodily with their amplifiers, and rather that most wear them as jewelry like in the books. merging the collar to alina's body was something the d*rkling told david to do to ensure she could never remove it, and her ability to absorb it entirely was the result of a unique power combined with unique circumstances and one of the three most powerful amplifiers known to grisha.

as such, when alina gets rusalye's scales, she wears them around her wrist as a bracelet, and does not have them merged into her body. when the time comes to kill mal for the power of that third amplifier, the bracelet breaks at the explosion of power much like in the books. alina also feels a surge from the collar in her bones as it loses its connection to the other two amplifiers.

i also favor mal being saved by some expert heartrending rather than dabbling in merzost on alina's part, at least as far as my main verse is concerned. so i'm drawing a lot more from the books in terms of how the trilogy ended (alina experiences an explosion of her power upon killing mal and her power still spreads to the soldat sol around her; in the process she still sacrifices both mal and rusalye's amplifier), with the main exception being that alina "keeps" the collar as it's been merged with her body, and both its power and her power to call the sun come back slowly over time.

no but they are so obsessed with each other for good and for bad……….. something about dan hearing about blair’s insecurities in 1.04 of being overshadowed/not chosen not long after properly meeting her and writing her as the star of the story….. even in high school he saw her as The Lead Role in this narrative they were all playing out she just went from being the antagonist to the protagonist for him. and blair was always obsessed with his Goodness or what she perceived to be his Goodness (in opposition to all of their Badness) and she loved when he would be on their side of things i.e. scheming/lying etc. she took a perverse joy in it but i think she was mostly fascinated with how he could do that but still be Good. i think the same way she battles with the contradictions of her arrogance vs her insecurities she battles with her view of dan pre-friendship — “you’re just like us to the bone” is something of a triumph for her (dan humphrey is not good, he’s as bad as i am) -> “some of them stay good no matter how they’re treated”

(in the context of the like constant comparisons about whether which one was worse or more justified btwn venat & emet) the only framing (of venat's actions as terrible) that i can get behind is that it was the final nail that resulted in this entire civilization/culture being gone/lost and how thats always a tragedy. but even then the text (prior to some things ew did that im ambivalent about) presents the situation like the ancients were already on this unstoppable path to tragedy (continuously sacrificing their own dwindling numbers in attempts to fix things) and venat & her group were basically responding to that by putting their feet down and saying "you cant do this anymore" and thats very different from the situation w emet & his fellow maladjusted pathetic evil sad men. like i think its disingenuous to compare venat/her group looking at their own civilisation & saying they would oppose it because it was going down a path they thought was unconscionable vs the ascians condemning multiple other worlds/cultures/etc to extinction bc they thought it was worth it if they got theirs (this is a comparison i see a lot and its frustrating bc theyre really not the same situation at all & yet...)

ooh, I hadn't thought about that, but I like it! like, I think Grim fills the role of Yuu's pokemon (or vice-versa) (somehow) but I kind of love the idea that he's some kind of far-removed Paradox or alternate-timeline version of another pokemon or something. honestly, there would probably be a lot of theories about what exactly he is! mostly it involves throwing a lot of pokeballs at him and seeing what happens.
