[ID: a panel sequence of young Dick Grayson just two months after his parents' murders. He's sulking at the dining table in the grandiose Wayne Manor. The dinner is taking place in front of a lit fireplace that causes the entire room to have a soft, bronze glow to it. The table itself is long and decorated and Bruce Wayne is sitting on the opposite end of it. Alfred Pennyworth prompts, “More mashed potatoes, Master Dick—?” But Dick is too busy thinking about a young criminal he ran into when he snuck out earlier. He quietly mutters the taunt she told him, “‘Spoiled brat in a circus suit’—?” Alfred asks, “Was that a yes or a no?” The pouting child brusquely tells him, ”no,” which causes the butler to clear his throat. Dick begrudgingly corrects himself, “No thank you, Alfred.” Alfred responds, “As you wish, Master Dick.”

But Dick is already uttering another taunt under his breath, “‘Lap of luxury’!” Bruce leans forward slightly and asks if everything is okay but Dick dismisses his concern. He excuses, “I'm... I'm not very hungry, Bruce. Is it okay if I go to my room?” Despite his obvious qualms, Bruce awkwardly smiles and replies, “Uh... Of course. Certainly.” Dick gets up as Alfred tells him the food will be in the refrigerator if he gets hungry later but Dick just ‘uh-huh’s him as he walks away. With the child upstairs, Bruce immediately stands up and paces. He stops in front of the fireplace and stares into the blaze as he monologues his worries, “Maybe this was a mistake. What in the world made me think I could raise a boy? I don't know the first thing about it! I've always been a loner! I don't have the knowledge... or the disposition... to make this work.” Alfred wryly asks, “Are you addressing the fireplace, Sir—or me?” But Bruce stresses his demur without looking at him, “His parents are dead, Alfred! What gives me the temerity to believe I can replace them in his life?”

Alfred solemnly reassures, “I asked myself the same questions once. What in the world did a butler know about raising a young man who'd just lost the two people he loved most in the world? But strangely enough, Sir—I adapted. I learned. I learned because I wanted to... Because I cared. And... despite some difficulties along the way—I think the young man in question turned out splendidly. And I think Master Dick will too.” Bruce doesn't say anything but he his eyes closed in thought as Alfred talks before looking at him with a soft smile. He straightens his posture when Alfred finishes and puts his hand on his shoulder, silently grateful for the man's fatherly reassurance and support once again. END ID]

do you ever think about how NONE of the gangsey really had friends before they met each other besides henry? the only people we know gansey interacted with before meeting adam and ronan are people like mallory, who i wouldn't really count as super close friends. we know blue was the odd girl at school. that the only people adam seems to really interact with are gansey, ronan, and noah at the start of the raven boys. we know ronan was close with his brothers, but never mentions any close friends growing up. even noah is only really described as having one close friend (whelk) in high school, and we all know how that one ended up.

i think a lot about how messy the friendships are in that group, but it wasn't until today that i realized that part of the reason might be because none of them have really had friends before. it makes sense that henry, the ONE person who actually seems to have friends besides the gangsey, is also the one who is the most upfront with getting friends, and the one who seems to be really good at picking up his new friends' strengths. he's already been there before, so he knows how to interact within groups like that. everyone else is still figuring out that dynamic all throughout the series.

#it also explains why adam has so much trouble opening up to his new friends at harvard in the dreamer trilogy #his one standard is the gangsey #and more specifically gansey #he tries mimicking gansey's method of gathering people down on their luck because that's the ONLY thing he knows #but gansey is also not the best at opening up to people #so adam never once really thinks about how to do that #especially when everything that happened in henrietta within the gangsey was generally group knowledge since its a small town #its hard to hide things there #you can even make an argument for ronan struggling so much in the trilogy because he's never had long distance friendships before #he's still trying to figure it out #but failing miserably at it #the gangsey #trc #the raven cycle #gansey iii #richard campbell gansey iii #adam parrish #ronan lynch #blue sargent #noah czerny #henry cheng

And later, when Gansey shows up at Adam’s apartment, Adam is surprised it’s not Ronan, implying that Ronan was a frequent visitor all summer. Ronan saw Adam pulling away and made it his business to stick around him.

Marinette is the sky. Calm, assuring and protecting. She is the view that people look forward to after a storm.

Chloe is a darker shade, vibrant but darker. Her eyes are sharp like the tides, cold and unforgiving to anyone. Despite the danger it pose, it's beauty is spoken dutifully to those who could only admire from afar. The ocean is cold, deep, and unknown. And it plans to stay that way.

Yet from start to end, the sky will cry tears and the ocean will be there catching them. It's their only form of contact for the sky is too far and the ocean can not escape.

The rain comes and goes, and the ocean is left warmer.

Trying to do worldbuilding for a planet is very hard when you don't know anything about astronomy, physics, hard science in general, and haven't taken a math class in several years

I wanted the planet to be small but otherwise Earth-like but apparently a planet that small would not be dense enough to hold an atmosphere together unless it was real close to its sun and if I wanted it to be real close to its sun while still being habitable it'd have to be a red dwarf star and actually a planet that orbited a red dwarf star that close would probably be tidally locked and the colors would be all weird and wait, how old is the planet, what about the moon, fuck we gotta figure out the tectonic plates, how the fuck do THOSE work--

"Could I get this heated, please?" he asked the cashier, before looking up and freezing.

It took everything in him not to just turn around and leave, but they weren't the only people in the store and he didn't want to draw attention to himself. He swallowed thickly, hands shaking.

"Well, I can't say I expected to see you here," he forced out, pleasant, because I thought you were in prison wasn't exactly something he should be announcing in Akira's workplace.

And then he went quiet, because what else was he supposed to say? He was never supposed to see Akira again. He was supposed to dead, and Akira was in prison, and it didn't matter. Nothing they - he - did or said in Maruki's reality was supposed to matter, because Goro was supposed to be dead.
