Disney: Yeah, sorryy, we don't know how to make villains without queercoding them and people didn't like the twist-villains, so we stopped making them alltogether :( I hope you like 3593 intergenerational family-traumas!
Dreamworks, while creating not one, not two, but three amazing villains: Pathetic
people, can't believe i have to say this, Asha and Isabella don't look alike. look at the wildly different profiles! they are just both disney brown girls with dark hair in purplish dresses
Similarly, Asha does not look like Esmeralda
or even really Elena
you know who's face profile she does map over?
friggin'
rapunzel
the hair even parts in the exact same place!
c'mon disney, did you have to reuse this body model AGAIN? you think just because you tweaked it very slightly, we wouldn't recognize the same silhouette??
disney, you just did Encanto, did you learn nothing about designing female characters? You also did Raya, and Strange Worlds, and Moana-
I heard so many people say bad things abt encanto and now that I actually watched it, they were all wrong ?? No the protagonist isn't insufferable, she's amazing and kind and more self aware than most disney protagonists. No there's no "too many songs" this is a musical it's supposed to have that many songs if you don't like music go somewhere else.
It's not the downfall of disney movies, it truly is something different and a very smart and soft way of speaking about generational trauma. And the simple fact that this movie has no "journey" (it mostly stays in one place) is so daring imo bc the pace still feels incredible.
It goes up with red alert as one of the best Disney I ever saw, and what feels like very cool evolution of storytelling in animated movies
Once Disney's done with their sequel fever trilogy, I'd like for them to make more films like these
To specify, I'd like more films inspired by superheroes, non-European cultures, and fairy tales (modern or medieval, as long as it's magical). And if they're all musicals, then even better!
