One dollar thirty-eight at Don and Millie’s,
I feel good and it might sound silly,
But I feel the rush of tonight.
Read a few things that remind me of younger me,
As if it’s not through the same eyes I still see,
Realizing that I’m still her.
Passionate, free, a light in the dark;
Still finding space in society to make my mark,
I do not need to be the same.
I fall in love with love,
And when push comes to shove,
I care more than anybody I know.
Happiness encapsulates my life,
I live to be alive,
Nobody can bring me down.

It’s nights like these, me and the dancing lamp light,
When the words just don’t fit on the paper right,
When I’m trying to move my way past the night,
Frustrated that I just can’t sleep.

My body has known many homes,
And even more occupancies.
Still searching for the one that finally calls me,
The one where I lay my head forever.

Mother reminding me “life is not a fantasy.”
Knowing well enough, I was raised on Disney movies.
Cuddled in a water bed by my life-giving granny.
If love isn’t fantasy, maybe it should be.

Sleep and other Drugs
Air fills my lungs,
But I am not sure that I am breathing.
I’m going through the motions,
Surviving without a deeper meaning.
How long will this feeling last?
Surely no more than the winter.
I’ll keep my feet moving,
Though I grow fatigued much quicker.
Sleep is my opiate,
I’m addicted to the drug.
I thought it was helping me feel better,
Until I realized the hole I’d dug.
I’d do anything to be happy,
But am obsessed with things that keep me sad.
I try not to let myself think about it,
Because the thought just makes me mad.
I will not let the darkness keep me,
Summer is surely on its way.
Until then I’ll find shreds of light,
And lay myself where they lay.

I remember that day I broke down in the car,
Though not as much as you do.
I wanted to rest forever,
Despite you begging me not to.

“Most of us need to be reminded that we are good, that we are lovable, that we belong. If we knew just how powerfully our thoughts, words, and actions affected the hearts of those around us, we’d reach out and join hands again and again. Our relationships have the potential to be a sacred refuge, a place of healing and awakening. With each person we meet, we can learn to look behind the mask and see the one who longs to love and be loved.”

“You strike me as a kind person. I hope your world is kind. By which I mean, I’ve heard we see the world not as it is but as we are. A saint sees a world of saints, a killer sees only murderers and victims.” - Neil Gaiman
