Lost in the Crossfire: A Review of Civil War
There is no story without context. That is something that always plays on repeat when approaching a story. Make sure it is clearly noted why this story on display matters and exactly why it is important.
Civil War does absolutely none of that and it took me right out of the movie. It sets in this warn torn America where the government is on the verge of collapse. This plot sounds like a very interesting concept. What if America had a second Civil War? What would be the root cause?
We don't get any of those answers. Which is what a story like this should give us. We know there are states formed together to be called The Western Forces, California, and Texas are independent and there is a place in the South known as The Florida Alliance.
That is all the political information we get as a core set of war journalists embark to try and interview the president before he is killed. The movie is well acted, of course, but there is no substance to the story. There is no point in caring about the characters because we don't know how this all came to be.
Had their been something in the early stages to let us know what political turmoil led to all of this Civil War would have been an easy contender for one of the years best. Now what it seemed like was a typical run and gun video game with a simple story of "enemy bad".
If the idea was to remain politically ambiguous to play cot, it truly backfired. They did not have to lean into a particular party to piss anyone off, but there should have been some form of extreme idealism that led to an uprising. We get a small glimpse that some things of political structure have changed. Such as the two term ideas, and we learn the FBI had been disbanded. We don't know why this came to be. We know nothing about how the new factions are governed. We know nothing about laws anywhere in the US at all. They skipped out on all the important details so we could get a front-line war correspondence view from the home front.
This, for me, has to be the biggest misfire from a film in 2024. It has the perfect concoction of ideas to really make a hard-hitting statement. What we got still could have remained, but all they had to do was lean into some reason for it all. In an age where we have so much freedom of expression, this film says absolutely nothing.

Peeta has said many charming things, but this line always has me giggling and kicking my feet. I don’t understand how Katniss was so strong.
Suzanne really decided to create the perfect man: he can bake and paint, he’s charming but not cocky, and is really kind and caring only to then strip and distort his entire personality, thanks suzanne.
I kinda hate how they changed this in the movie. Even in the paragraphs before this they had this flirty banter that was so so good. The movies erased or changed nearly all of their banter though.
But, anyway - Peeta Mellark is the blueprint that no other book boyfriend has lived up to.

Guys please do not break the boycott and subscribe to Disney plus to watch the eras tour movie. I know we all love Taylor and want to watch this movie but what’s happening in Palestine right now is so much more important and this movie is truly not worth breaking the boycott for. I’m pretty sure you can still rent the film elsewhere. Free Palestine.

Melissa Barrera has allegedly been dropped from Scream VII because of her alleged “antisemitic” posting. To be clear she is and has been Pro Palestine and has never made any posts that attack Jewish people.
Boycott the next Scream film. This is a direct attack on a woman speaking her mind.

How does your Wheeljack feel about King-Kong?
I G1 one enjoyer I see, I get the references ;)
Ok, but to answer the question, yes, he does in fact like King Kong, along with many other pieces of human cinema, especially the ones with giant monsters or dinosaurs. wheeljack is always looking for inspiration for new projects/inventions, and being on Earth has provided him with tons of new inspiration.

sorry im still thinking about how everybody in barbie (2023) is called barbie or ken (apart from midge and allen) and while its disappointing that barbie and ken's friends like christie, teresa, brad and steven haven't appeared i understand why they didn't do that. While we don't actually know if they'll still show up in the movie (doesn't seem likely), i think they did this to appeal to everybody not just people who are really into barbie. like most people/people that don't really pay attention to barbie don't know the names of their friends, they just refer to them as "[defining feature] barbie"
also i think its funny that everybody in that world is called barbera and kenneth. but there could still be hope that barbie's friends do show up if they bothered to put a spotlight on midge and allan (but i still think its all just for comedic purposes, because allan is a forgotten character and midge had controversy surrounding one of her dolls. plus midge and allan will probably have something going on in the movie because canonically allan got midge pregnant and you know, midge is pregnant in the movie)
