not to harp back to a few days ago but the whole "taking phone calls in public/loud music in public/playing music and videos outloud in public is rude etc. (the list could go on)" argument is not only absurd,
(not all public spaces are going to be silent its is unrealistic, outside cannot cater to every single person as everybody has different needs, but this is not me dismissing there are concerns for people who may have sensory 'issues' or may be bothered by loud sounds)
but has ties to racism and classism, especially considering that many nonblack and white people call the police about "noise complaints" on black and brown people and poor people because the music being played at a party is 'too loud' or music from a car is being played 'too loud', which leads to them getting arrested or killed.
It also has links to gentrification, it is known that people who do complain about a community being too loud are clearly not familiar with the cultures in that area and that loud noise being a nuisance is a clear sign you are coming into a culture that isn't yours
anyway i think some of you need to read the article linked because the influx of these types of arguments is concerning.

ABOUT
Tumblr media
I've been on such a peculiar journey. I hope you can relate. I was raised in the Black Church™ and as we became more and more "evangelical" and insular the older I got I became disillusioned and left that space. Since then I guess you can say I have been floating. Looking for a home. I can't say that I have found one yet, but I have definitely become an expert in what NOT to do when you are on this type of journey. This has driven me to attempt to create this space. Space for people like me, disillusioned folks who aren't yet willing to give up on the existence of God or gods or Santa Clause. I wanted a space where questioning folk could get definitive, verifiable evidence without being manipulated by the rhetoric of marketeers or simply asked to take what resonates. With Dreamboat Theory I plan to create a central space for budding mages to study, grow and build skills before moving on to organized religions, pantheons, philosophies, practices, or programs. This is a blog about that process and my continuing journey.

Just realised one of the reblogs on a post about Eddie Munson’s muscle development or lack thereof was from someone I followed because of their excellent Darth Maul fanart and was like a) okay Eddie is definitely already in my small elite cadre of Characters Who I Just Pretend Didn’t Die (the other main one is Nephrite) albeit Maul already took himself out of the group by canonically resurrecting himself, but honestly that only meant I moved on to pretending he didn’t die his next canonical death, b) given that Eddie does not die and gets to go see the Star Wars prequels with his friends, I feel pretty sure that his favourite part of The Phantom Menace was Darth Maul because while he is in fact adorable and made of sunshine and kittens (and sometimes ketamine) he’s always drawn to an evil aesthetic and he was like “well at least we get a really hot new Darth for this trilogy” followed by “OH MY GOD NO” followed by waking Steve up at 2 am to tell him more about his intensely held brand-new opinions followed by getting kicked out of bed and sullenly writing one of the world’s first Darth Maul fixit fics
(Steve liked the movie)
(Steve’s Star Wars opinions have been established as out of step with the critical consensus)
(Steve cried at the end of Revenge of the Sith because he was still hoping Anakin and Padmé could somehow work things out)
(Steve thought it was a cool twist that somehow Palpatine returned)
(The only reason Eddie has not divorced Steve for his Star Wars opinions is (jointly) that he agreed Jar Jar Binks was annoying and he subsequently bought Eddie the inflatable Darth Maul chair to “chair him up” which made him almost cry laughing)

i had shared what is happening in sudan on a long facebook post last night, but it virtually received almost little to no engagement or shares from the nearly 600 “friends” i have on the site.
this morning, my great-aunt was shot by the soldiers fighting for power, and God forbid, i lose more of my family members before eid this friday.
please read below to understand what is happening and how you can help my country. i hope the tumblr community can show more kindness than the lack of support and advocacy i’ve seen elsewhere.
يا رب اجعل هذا البلد آمناً 🇸🇩
the lack of awareness and advocacy from the African, Arab, and Muslim diaspora and the human rights community has been painful.
while Western media has done little to no coverage of the ongoing conflict in the capital city of my motherland, Sudan, it appears that the rest of the world also partakes in normalizing crimes and violence against SWANA people.
violence and war hurting the SWANA region are NOT ordinary occurrences — no one, regardless of race, creed, ethnicity, religion, and gender, should experience the unprecedented amount of violence that harms my two living grandmothers, aunts and uncles, and baby cousins who live in Khartoum.
your decision to ignore reading or educating and discussing with others about what is likely to be a civil war is complicity in viewing SWANA people as individuals who regularly experience conflict and are undeserving of help.
the silence is damaging, and it is up to us as privileged members of the diaspora (or individuals living in the Western world committed to human rights) to support the people of my country and their dream for a stable, democratically elected government.
what is happening in Sudan is a fight that started on April 15 between two competing forces for power — the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) — neither groups are representative of the needs of our people. The Sudan Army is loyal to the dictator, Omar Al-Bashir, and the RSF is responsible for the genocide in Darfur.
with both power struggles backed by different Arab and Gulf nations, the two parties have been fighting for power for the last few years. While they worked together to try and end the people’s revolution, they lost. however, they are now in a constant power play of who will get to rule the nation.
this all means that war is NOT a reflection of my country — violence does not represent the SWANA people. Sudan is a nation of beautiful culture, strong women, intellectual and influential Islamic scholars, poets, and youth at the front lines of the revolution. we are a people committed to a region of peace for ourselves and the rest of the Ummah.
my family and the rest of Sudan’s innocent civilians are at the most risk, with many currently without drinking water, food to eat, electricity, and complete blockage to any mosques during the final nights of Ramadan, our holiest month of the year.
i ask that you please keep Sudan and our people in your prayers — donate to the Sudan Red Crescent or a mutual aid GoFund Me, email your representatives if you live in a country that can put pressure on either competing force of power, discuss this with your family and friends, and please do not forget to think about SWANA people — our brothers and sisters in Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, and many others need our love and support.

There's such an intricate interplay between antisemitism and islamophobia from the slacktivist left. For every reason they can think of to delegitimize the Jewish People's connection to Eretz Yisrael, it's propped up by some Noble Savage presumptions about Palestinians/Arabs/Muslims.
Since Jews in America are seen as a model minority, seen as having accessed whiteness and privilege, and "antisemitism" is at worst having to explain what Hanukah is to clueless Christians, the Left is confused as to exactly why Jews care about Jerusalem and the Land of Israel so much. Shouldn't they be above such petty and barbaric and outdated concerns such as a dusty old book from 2,000 years ago?
They should be more enlightened than that. They're all rich suburban secular Democrats. They're the leftist religion, according to bloggers on this very platform. There is no room for Judaism to be a religion, there's no acknowledgment of ancient customs, rituals, and the deep mysticism that's still alive and well in the Jewish community. There's no attempt to understand Jewish history and culture and why a group of people you think shares your vaguely atheistic vaguely liberal (and not in the Tankie sense) vaguely smug detached Western worldview... is more complex and unique than that.
Jews should be happy living in Diaspora because clearly the problem of antisemitism is fixed now, and never really was a problem in America. There must be something sinister behind a desire to reestablish a country by and for Jews. There must be something colonial, oppressive, European and White about it. Because why else would they do it? They have it good here. And no we won't acknowledge where Israelis primarily descend from because that requires us to do research and have a shred of nuance and integrity when it comes to Jews. No thanks!
A lot of the modern left is nonconsensually dragging Jews kicking and screaming from their own unique demographic toward the banal Norm. To themselves. But not totally. See they think they relate to Jews and vice versa, but not enough that when they think Jews should "know better," or haven't "learned their lesson," from the Holocaust, it engenders a deep seeded disgust and mistrust and rage that's not felt for actually privileged mainstream dominant society.
Conversely, the slacktivist Left sees Arabs as savages. Silly desert people who eat sand and worship a big black cube and cover every inch of their bodies for some reason. How quaint! When the Palestinian/Arab/Muslim cause explains that Jerusalem is important to them, the White Western Leftist nods sagely and says "Your culture is so valid queen," because they don't care. They just accept that Muslim society would be willing to fight over an ancient city proscribed as holy in dusty old tomes. Because that fits the narrative already surrounding Muslims.
They're seen as backwards, but the Left, reacting to their conservative parents and the Bush era, see "Muslims are backwards," and says not "No actually they're modern groups of people with practical geopolitical goals," but instead "Yeah and that makes them better than us!" Especially with this new crop of baby Leftists who think Islamo-Fascist "Feudalism" or whatever the best term would be, is aspirational or at least harmless... because it's not capitalism :)
So Muslims are infantilized and condescended to because the Western Leftist is still just as racist as their parents, but they feel guilty about their parents without considering their contribution to White Supremacy and the Post Bush surveillance state. And all the while Jews are reprimanded and held to an impossible standard because the Western Leftist, again, rejects their conservative parents' philosemitism, and decides that Jews Must be Punished when they step off the pedestal that Suffering the Shoah placed them on.
Jews should be above nationalism, Jews should know that demurely suffering pogroms and ethnic cleansing and genocide and general inequity and humiliation will earn them their divine reward in the end. Muslims should not be above nationalism, because they're not capable of being above it, and can't we throw them a bone, after all Obama was the worst president in history because of the Drone War and let's not mention George W Bush at all :0
Hot take, but I believe this is an essential underpinning of where the average disaffected White millennial/zoomer Leftist's head is at with regard to Israel and Palestine. They won't acknowledge it of course, but I can generally see through things like this.

Dear Free Palestine fans,
If you want to combat the inherent antisemitism in your ranks, don't say shit like "Israel wants jews to feel hated/unsafe". Israel didn't make you chant "Gas the jews" at Sydney hours after a bloody massacre of innocent civilians. Israel didn't make you celebrate and then deny the gruesome murders and mass rapes of men, women and children. Israel didn't make you carry Isis flags, or wear Hamas symbology and call Hamas freedom fighters. Israel didn't make you chant to globalize the intifada, to push 7 million jews and 2 million arabs into the sea, or one solution (how that last one did *not* remind you of Hitler's final solution I have no idea). Israel didn't make you excuse the slaughter and say that Hamas shouldn't be destroyed. Israel didn't make you rewrite Jewish history. Israel didn't make you attack and harass diaspora jews and bar them from using Cafe bathrooms (segregation much?). Israel didn't make you attack Jewish businesses. Israel didn't make you deny our right for self determination instead of advocating that both sides have a right to a state. Israel didn't make you call for a ceasefire WITHOUT the stipulation that Hamas stop shooting as well and release ALL the hostages, among which there is a 10 month old BABY and toddlers as young as 3 years old.
I could go on. Point is, Israel didn't make you do any of that. You did that. On your own. Take some fucking accountability and clean up your movement.

We didn't even get a chance to mourn.
I saw news articles about people celebrating the slaughter of 1400 innocent people, hours before I even had a chance to really understand the extent of the atrocities Hamas committed.
My mother was the one who told me that she had finally heard from her relatives in Israel - that her cousin managed to hide in a closet with her newborn baby and dog while she heard Hamas terrorists ransacking her home.
And people were fucking celebrating. Handing out candy in the streets. Lighting flares and fireworks.
The State Premier arranged for the Sydney Opera House to be lit up in blue and white in commemoration and solidarity for the attack. We didn't even get a chance to gather on the steps of the Opera House and mourn because a fucking Pro-Palestinian rally rioted that same day through the city and the crowd chanted "Gas the Jews". Israel hadn't even declared a retaliation yet. We hadn't even learned how many hostages were taken.
I was mocked and belittled by a prominent Australian politics blog right here on Tumblr because I begged it to include just one line about the hostages, amidst their essay calling for a ceasefire.
We didn't even get a chance to mourn. Instead, we had to bury the grief and go on the defense, to once again advocate for Israel's basic right to exist, for Israel's right to self defense, for the hostages, for the safety of the Diaspora.
We didn't even get a chance to mourn.
I will never forgive the world for that. Never.

I really just want to fucking vomit when I see other Jews denounce us and curse our names to be forgotten, knowing that this kind of insult is reserved for literal nazis- just because we have, principles.
Yitgadal v’yitkadash sh’mei raba b’alma di-v’ra chir’utei.
I don't know, I feel like I am going insane, living my life under the fascist duterte regime, I know my own kind can be depraved, cruel and brutal. I also have lived my life as someone who was more "jew-ish" rather than "actual jew", and I've been excluded and denied for my appearance and upbringing. I know Israel banned Yiddish and Yiddish literature but when put in scrutiny then suddenly the shoah is brought up multiple times. I've known Israel to treat white converts so much better than they treat Ethiopian Jews and other Jews of color, but when a white convert was kiIled, she was not allowed to be buried in a Jewish cemetery. Ultimately, apartheid relies on Jews knowing only one monolithic and artificial identity rather than the rich and diverse cultures we have in diaspora- Israel depends on Jews being afraid and clinging to it as indoctrinated cash cows to continue to remain beneficial to the global north, whom are funding their military.
I'm in tears thinking about how Israelis have told me I had no right to wear my magen David for having the audacity to fucking weep over the ark of bodies left before the world to see. How can so many call this bastardization judaism. How can so much of jewry turn up their noses over this. I've seen Israel do literally the same things that the duterte regime has done to fellow filipinos, I've seen both deny human rights and try to get any forces that work for human rights decommissioned, I've seen bodies pile up high because their families were too much in danger to claim them and give them proper burials, and I've seen both filipinos and israeli jews say "where is the proof that this brutality is happening" or "not nearly enough have died.", n the fact that people who have literally argued with holocaust deniers still have the audacity to say "hm! This sounds like a conspiracy! It must be fake!" When human rights watch themsleves have confirmed that idf forces left literal babies to melt into their mattresses, when the American government themselves bragged about sending exploding meat grinders to Israel, when random journalists keep having to find someone else from Gaza to be interviewed because the one they were supposed to talk with died from carpet bombing or whatever else. And so much more. Your own can do depraved and immoral things, and judaism says that you cannot stand for this cruelty. You must not!! Judaism is and will always be the antithesis of inaction!!
I know people from Egypt and people from Lebanon feel complicit just from not being able to do enough, how can so many Jews say nothing to a genocide literally being done in our names, by an ethnostate that ultimately will not care about us. Why HaShem, why is this happening!!
Y’hei sh’lama raba min sh’maya, v’hayim, aleinu v’al koi yisrael, v’imru amen.

goyim need to quit trying to get into the good graces of diaspora jews by insulting israeli jews. I really am not sure why they do it, but what I do know is that shit isn't gonna get the results they want. we do not feel complimented when people insult our friends and family. we dont want to be the "good jews" that sad little goyim can tokenize and use as metaphorical weapons against israelis. I dont feel special when someone says to me "oh but you're not israeli so its ok!!" I just feel insulted and angry and I know im not the only diasporic jew who feels the same. i know that we aren't gonna be divided because of community is too strong for that im just so damn tired of the people who try to do that.
I was gonna share some sources with a person about antisemitism, I think it was al jazeera something or other I honestly don't remember that part. then they referred to israelis as "zionazis" which is absolutely disgusting to call any jewish person for reasons I shouldn't have to explain. for some reason I was feeling generous so I didn't block them immediately (I really should have though) but I made it clear I wasn't doing shit for them if they couldn't hold it with the insults. you know, basic shit an adult should easily be able to do. did they stop? no of course not. yet throughout 90% of that conversation they were still trying to suck up to me while calling israelis baby killers, pedos, etc.
if youre diasporic and you think that you're better than israelis then fuck you and get out. you're not special because you live in another place than them. or because you have different life experiences than they do. or whatever it is I really dont care. please nourish your experiences and knowledge you've gained by being in the diaspora but dont use it to push people down.
