the feminine urge to mourn lost cultures and empires. for your heart to ache every time you remember how many languages no longer have speakers, how many ruins are abandoned, how many people lived happy lives before you. to feel melancholy and longing every time you study history - of this world or another, even fictional. to want to play a role in history, but in the same time fear dying, passing, being forgotten like those thousands before you.

I love (read hate) when people are like: "I'm not gonna congratulate the government for doing the bare minimum!" Like, bro, we're talking overtime protection, flight cancellation protection, and voiding non-competes. That ain't the bare minimum! You just fantasize about an impossible utopia and think anything that doesn't reach your unrealistic expectation is the 'bare minimum.'

So you guys know how the Jedi Order is filled with people from pretty much every world and species? Think about all the unique cultural things the Jedi would practice simply because the Order is basically a giant melting pot.
A Kalikori made out of Akul teeth, passed down through a lineage and carved in multiple different styles to represent the cultures of each of the lineage members.
Different Jedi taking inspiration for their cultural face tattoos from their Togruta master's lekku or their friends' facial tattoos or the designs on a Council member's cultural headdress.
Recipes that are fusion foods made of like five different cultural dishes because a group of friends all got drunk together, got the munchies, and fucked around in the kitchen until something tasted good.
Like, just everyone sharing their cultures with each other and then people adapting their cultures based on their lineages and the shared culture in the Order, shared culture being a form of expressing love and adopting someone into the Order/a lineage.
Obviously there would be things that are off limits and permission would have to be given and the Jedi would probably emphasize learning the culture before ever adapting it, but I just think that after thousands of years their would be a lot of shared culture among the Jedi.
Oh, and languages! With how many languages are probably spoken in the Order, I wouldn't be surprised if the Jedi basically spoke bastardized versions of every language mashed together---it'd probably be an always moving/changing/evolving thing that no one but the Jedi can understand because the Jedi use the Force to bridge any gaps there might be in someone's understanding.
A lot of words and phrases would be taken from Dai Bendu, just because it's my personal headcanon that the Jedi still speak it, but then it would branch out from there into Twi'leki and Togruti and Durese and everything else all mixed together.
I just...I love the idea of the Jedi having a mixed culture that reflects the diversity of the Order.

the thing about lotr that the movies don’t convey so fully is how the story is set in an age heavily overshadowed by all the ages before. they’re constantly traveling through ruins, discussing the glory of days gone by, the empires of men are much diminished, the elves (especially galadriel) are described as seeming incongruent, frozen in time….some of the imagery is even near-apocalyptic, like the ruins of moria and of course the landscape surrounding mordor
this is a strange thought to me, somehow: that the archetypal “high fantasy” story is set at the point where the…fantasy…used to be much higher? this is not the golden age; this is a remnant

Fighting for my life trying to find a phone or tablet with a headphone jack. Fighting for my life trying to find a laptop with a cd rom. Fighting for my life trying to get more than one usb port or, god forbid, an hdmi. Fighting for my life trying to find any electronics that haven't been streamlined into flimsy chastity belts with the structural integrity of a sopping sheet of paper which require me to buy 3 extra devices (each with their own separate charging requirements) all because some silicon valley jackass somewhere decided holes were a bad thing.

inspired by a comment on another post from @fromchaostocosmos, who wrote: "I understand how the Streisand Effect came to be, but I find it very uncomfortable to use something that is used to mock a Jewish woman as a method to attack an antisemite there is just something about that makes my skin crawl."
I appreciate this being said, because there's always been a specifically nasty undercurrent to the term. it's the internet, so I know this will never change, but she discussed the inaccuracy and her discomfort with this in her memoir, and I wish there was more consideration about it.

post-voyager janeway introduces chakotay to someone and she’s like “this is my…” before stopping as the full weight of everything they are to each other hits her, all the tragedy and devotion and love and anger, how he stood by her side even after she’d crossed line after line, his courage and wisdom a light even in her darkest hours, and she finishes the sentence with “… my work husband”
