The way stores get caught lying all the fucking time about fruits and vegetables…
Tumblr media
Carrefour says that the dates come from Algeria. Except Algeria doesn’t produce Medjoul dates (we make Deglet Noor) so it is impossible that these dates come from Algeria. You know who export Medjoul dates to France? Morocco and “Israel”. Mainly “Israel”. So once again a French store is caught lying to avoid the boycott and to support the occupation of Palestine and the genocide of Palestinians without consequences.
(Reminder that Carrefour is a target of BDS so we’re boycotting regardless of their lies)
Tumblr media
Again caught lying. This time it’s Auchan. The poster with the price says the avocados come from Portugal except the box says “Israel”.
In the video this time in Lidl you can see that the store says the avocados are from Columbia. Except at the person show it on the video the tag says “Origin: Israel”
Regarding avocados especially they lie all the fucking time. I actually stopped buying them because of the constant lies and because even in other countries it’s often produced at the expense of the local population using too much water to satisfy the needs of the West.
Either way I would suggest being super careful look at the box and tags not just what the store tells you. And if you live in France know that this is illegal and you can report all those instances to the DGCCRF (here). If you live elsewhere I suggest looking for the legislation and reporting those lies if you can.
Edit: if you know your local/national agency to report these kind of stuff don’t hesitate to share the link you can even send the agency name (not a link I’m not opening random anon links) in anon if you’re more comfortable and I’ll add it to the post.

À l'ombre de "deglet-nour" - Brahim Boumedien-
Tumblr media
What's your favorite meal 🤔 or the coolest cat you have ever seen 🤔 out of random and probably batshit curiosity
Favorite meal... I cannot pick one there are too many good dishes, but I'd say whenever I eat out I usually pick shawarma or salmon poké. As for the dishes I eat at home I might be basic but I love couscous a lot especially with lamb, I also love bourek, mhadjeb and msemen, chorba frik, basically anything algerian as long as it's not baghrir or anything with lentils in it (I Reaaaally hate lentils) I do wish we had North African restaurants in my area, we have plenty of Levantine food places here (and Im not complaining about this at all I always go there and feel like life is worth living) but I want more people to discover how good Algerian food is. Ive seen a lot of foreigners consider couscous some sort of cold salad and it makes me so angry!!!! We eat it hot with sauce, potatoes, cooked vegetables, meat, green peas, we can also put plain yogurt or milk in it, people just dont get it... speaking of salads I really love fattoush and tabbouleh, I think Levantine salads are crazy in general I never get tired of them. Oh I also love dates a lot but only the Deglet Nour variant, I think Algerian dates are top tier the other ones never taste as good. Damn Im reading all that right now and it's a Lot for a simple question Im sorry lmfao but I hope it's a good answer for you. As for the coolest cat Id say my own cats at home are the coolest Ive seen, I love them. One of them is obsessed with me and thinks my bed is hers so Im never able to sleep well at night but shes awesome.

Kalamata tapenade with dates and mint
A variation on a classic! This tapenade pairs the depth and sweetness of dates with the briny brightness of kalamata olives. Capers and vegetarian oyster sauce bring further depth, complexity, and a touch of umami flavor. The dish remains predominantly savory, with the olive taste foremost, but sweetness registers as the bite develops. A must-try for a summer picnic or charcuterie spread!
Recipe under the cut!
Patreon | Tip jar
Serves 6-8.
Ingredients:
1 cup kalamata olives, pitted
6-8 capers
1/2 tsp vegetarian oyster sauce (optional)
4 cloves garlic, grated
8 dried dates (Medjool, deglet noir or halawi), pitted and diced
4 twigs thyme, leaves separated
8 leaves mint
2 Tbsp lemon juice
2-4 Tbsp good olive oil
Instructions:
1. Pit and dice dates, then place them in a small pot and add water to cover. Simmer until dates soften, 5-10 minutes. Separate the leaves from four stalks of thyme and save the stalks for another purpose (such as boiling in a stock or sauce).
2. Combine all ingredients in a mortar and pestle and mash to a coarse paste; or add all ingredients to a food processor and process, occasionally scraping the sides with a rubber spatula, until your desired texture is achieved. Garnish with additional mint leaves and a drizzle of olive oil.

Single, taken and everything in between these are the kind of Dates everyone can enjoy.
Dates come from the date palm tree and are most commonly found in tropic and subtropic regions. They are an important food in Muslim culture and can be viewed as a symbol of life and fertility. In the western world, we tend to find dates dried, with the Medjool & Deglet Noor varieties being most commonly sold in stores. However there are many different varieties out there, and recipes may specify which kind. Here's a guide to buying dates to help you figure out which ones are ideal for your recipe.
Awesome- so why should I eat them? glad you asked!
According to USDA FoodData Central, dates are a good source of energy, fiber, sugar, and various vitamins and minerals. Essential minerals such as calcium, iron, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, magnesium, sulfur, and zinc can be found in them. Apart from the above-mentioned nutrients, they may also contain important vitamins such as thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, folate, vitamin A, and vitamin K. [5]
A 2008 review published in Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition journal by Cornell researchers Chang Yong Lee and Mohamed Ali Al-Farsi suggests that over 15% of the daily requirement of essential minerals such as copper, potassium, magnesium, and selenium can be fulfilled by consuming 100 grams, or about 4 pitted dates per day.
As a result, dates are an excellent way to boost your overall energy levels and health and support healthy digestion thanks to all that wonderful fiber. My favorite way to eat them is either just snacking on fresh coconut rolled dates and all their soft chewy goodness OR I put them in smoothies. *smoothie pro tip* I usually will chop my dates up into bits (making sure to remove any pits or pit fragments first) and then allow them to soak in some type of (plant) milk for a little while before blending. The end result is so soft and creamy with just the right amount of sweetness. It balances flavor well when paired with bananas. Plus the super soft, chewy bits of dates at the end of the smoothie are a fun bonus.
Oh yea, and your dog can eat them as a snack too! just make sure you remove all pits and reserve them for the occasional treat so as to avoid stomach upset. All that fiber, you know?

Medjoola Date Day
Medjool Date Day takes place on February 4 yearly and serves the purpose of highlighting the benefits of the Medjool dates. Originally a Middle-Eastern fruit, Medjool dates made their way to the U.S in the 18th century, and since then, they have reigned in the hearts of the people. With a hint of caramel flavor, the dates are sweet, delicious, and one of the healthiest snacks on the market nowadays. They are also great for energy and can do wonders for people who are trying to cut down on the consumption of artificial sugar.
History of Medjoola Date Day
Medjool dates, like many other delicious fruits, have existed in this world for centuries. Though dates can be traced back to around 5000 to 6000 B.C., it took some time to reach different parts of the world. This was only possible with the technological evolution in transport, as the fruit was transported to different regions of the world. The Medjool dates, originally from Morocco, were brought to Nevada in 1927. From there, the plantation grew in abundance. Today, it is one of two date varieties grown in the U.S. And yes – people are really fond of this fruit.
Medjool dates were introduced into America by Walter Swingle in the 20th century. Swingle was assigned by the U.S government to identify some exotic crops around the globe, and after the researcher discovered dates, he transported them to America. During that time, however, not many were familiar with dates. This was, after all, a fruit they hadn’t heard of before. But as globalization happened and different cultures were brought to the forefront, people came to recognize dates for the delicious fruit they are. One of the main events that added to the popularity of dates in America was the annual date festival that started in 1921.
Today, dates are eaten by people of all ages, for their delicious taste as well as the numerous health benefits linked to them. A 2021 study reveals that Medjool dates are a good source of phenolic compounds.

As the demand for healthy and natural food options continues to rise, dates have emerged as a popular choice among consumers worldwide. Behind this trend lies a thriving industry of dates wholesalers, playing a crucial role in supplying these delectable fruits to markets, retailers, and businesses.
Dates wholesalers serve as the bridge between date producers and retailers, ensuring a smooth flow of these nutritious treats from farms to shelves. These wholesalers typically operate on a large scale, sourcing dates from various regions known for their high-quality produce, such as the Middle East, North Africa, and California. Their extensive networks enable them to offer a wide range of date varieties, including Medjool, Deglet Noor, Zahidi, and Barhi, catering to diverse consumer preferences.
One of the key advantages of sourcing dates from wholesalers is the assurance of freshness and quality. Wholesalers prioritize the timely delivery of fresh produce, maintaining stringent quality control measures to uphold the integrity of the fruits. Whether it's whole dates, date pastes, or date-based products like energy bars and spreads, wholesalers ensure that their offerings meet the highest standards, thereby earning the trust of retailers and consumers alike.
For businesses looking to incorporate dates into their products or retail offerings, wholesalers offer several benefits beyond just procurement. They provide valuable insights into market trends, seasonal availability, and pricing dynamics, helping businesses make informed decisions. Additionally, wholesalers often offer flexible pricing and volume discounts, enabling businesses to optimize their supply chain and enhance their competitiveness in the market.
Furthermore, dates wholesalers play a vital role in supporting sustainable agriculture practices and the livelihoods of farming communities. By establishing long-term partnerships with growers and adhering to fair trade principles, wholesalers contribute to the economic development of date-producing regions while promoting environmental stewardship.
In conclusion, the world of dates wholesalers is a vibrant and essential component of the global food supply chain. From ensuring quality and freshness to offering valuable expertise and support to businesses, wholesalers play a multifaceted role in meeting the growing demand for dates.
