[ID: A picture of a Cat-Man comic, with a yellow background, showing Cat-Man, a buff man with red boots and a red and orange leotard, with a red cape, and a red mask that covers all but his nose and mouth. There is other text that is hard to read in such small, low quality print. End ID.] Today's Public Domain Character: Cat-Man
Cat-Man is a character that was sort of popular in the 1940s, an obvious attempt to capture the same feeling as Bat-Man. Cat-Man was raised by a Tiger and therefore has some abnormal abilities like climbing, leaping great lengths, seeing in the dark and also he has 9 lives like all cats. The spirit of his mother can revive him.
His civilian persona of David Merryweather is a private detective and he goes into his Cat-Man persona when things get too heated. He had a kid sidekick, a young girl named Katie Conn who went by the name The Kitten. Eventually the company Holyoke went bankrupt and the character has since gone into the public domain.
There was a truly baffling run by AC Comics in the 1980s which had a gross premise of Katie getting one of his lives but as a result her body becoming an adult but her mind is that of an 11 year old but eventually she ages mentally and then her and Cat-Man marry, its gross and like really uncomfortable and has not aged well at all.
DC Comics has used Cat-Man in some of their Bat-Man stories and he is sometimes used as a stand-in parody for Bat-Man such as in the Fairly Godparents. I think Cat-Man would make a good substitute if you want to publish Bat-Man type stories or just explore a really neat comic book character.

Seasonal theme: Magical summer (ending)
This summer will be a season of wonders and enchantments, of spells and wizards - a magical summer!
Here is a list of beings, entities, objects and concepts you can check out if you want to add some magic to your summer:
In fiction (but isn’t fiction a myth-to-be?)
Shakespeare’s work greatly influenced the world’s vision of witches and wizards, be it through the Weird Sisters/Three Witches in Macbeth, or Prospero in The Tempest.
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is one of the most famous pieces of “wizard fiction”. Starting out as a German poem by Goethe, adapted from a world-wide folktale, it then became a French “symphonic poem” in the hands of Paul Dukas. Disney then adapted this symphonic poem into a world-famous animated short in their movie Fantasia 2000, before re-adapting the poem into a completely unrelate teenage-urban fantasy movie in 2010. A urban fantasy movie not to be confused with another kid-friendly fantasy movie inspired by the poem of Goethe and sharing the same name (as well as plot elements, such as Arthurian sorcerers finding themselves in the present-day world). This time it is a British “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”, released in 2001.
The depiction of Merlin in The Sword in the Stone, both the Disney movie of the 60s and the novel by T. H. White that inspired it, also had a great impact on the vision of the character in popular culture. Both works also contain a famous fictional witch in the person of Madame Mim. A warning, however: Madame Mim only appears in the first editions/first version of the novel, on which the Disney movie was based. In the 50s White rewrote his novel, and excluded the chapter of Madame Mim. Madame Mim in the novel is also very different from the character Disney made her out to be.
A last creation of Disney for this list: Flora, Fauna and Merryweather, the three good fairies (and actual heroes) of Disney’s Sleeping Beauty.
The Wicked Witch of the West is one of the most famous depictions of a “wicked witch” in the mediatic landscape - and in fact, many witch depictions today are still inspired by her (most notably the green skin or the fact of being melted by water). I am of course here referring to the Wicked Witch as she appears in the MGM movie The Wizard of Oz - this Witch being a very different character from the Wicked Witch of the West appearing in the original novel by L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Not that Baum did not create quite a lot of very famous witches: I can mention Mombi, the antagonist of the second Oz book, The Marvelous Land of Oz, or the Good Witch of the North and her counterpart Glinda the Good, the Sorceress of the South. These two are quite notorious as being the first “good witches” to ever appear in American literature.
In Tolkien’s Legendarium (The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, the Silmarillion): Gandalf the Grey, Saruman the White and the Rings of Power - especially the One Ring. All became archetypes of the fantasy literature and unchallenged character-types (or artefact-types) in all future high fantasy/epic fantasy sagas. Plus - I almost forgot - the palantiri, the “seeing-stones”, Tolkien’s own spin on the classical “crystal ball”.
Other wizards of fantasy classics would include Belgarath the sorcerer and his daughter Polgara, from David Eddings’ (and his wife) The Belgariad, a duo purposefully designed to play fully while subverting in many ways the “Gandalf-type of character” ; as well as Ningauble of the Seven Eyes and Sheelba of the Eyeless Face, the alien and otherwordly patron-warlocks of Fritz Leiber’s iconic heroic duo, Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser.
The magic-users of sir Terry Pratchett’s Discworld deserve an entire section of their own. Each one of them is a careful parody or caricature of the wizard or the witch as envisioned and imagined by fantasy literature, witch-hunters or New Age hippies, as well as a reconstruction of these same stereotypes and cliches, based on philosophical, humanist and scientific principles, making them as much realistic takes as bloody hilarious incarnation of the “witch” and “wizard” character types. For the wizards you have Rincewind (with the Luggage, of course), Mustrum Ridcully, Ponder Stibbons or the Unseen University (a wizard school long before Harry Potter existed). For the witches you have Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, Magrat Garlick or Tiffany Aching. And let’s not forget the gender-challenging Eskarina...
Speaking of Harry Potter - despite the controversies surrounding its creator, the Harry Potter book series, and the movie series that followed, is a franchise that cannot be ignored when considering the image and perception of witches, wizards and magic in fantasy. The titular character of Harry Potter deeply marked the minds - as much as his two friends/co-protagonists, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, his nemesis Draco Malfoy, his mentor/school headmaster Albus Dumbledore, the magic school of Hogswart itself, or the magical sport known as Quidditch.
However, while Harry Potter cannot be ignored, it also must not be forgotten that this franchise was the last of a long set of series depicting children trying to learn magic in a school for witches or wizards, such as Wizard’s Hall by Jane Yolen, The Circle of Magic by MacDonald and Doyle*, Anthony Horowitz’s Groosham Grange (plus its sequel “The Unholy Grail”), and of course Jill Murphy’s The Worst Witch. Special mention for Neil Gaiman’s The Books of Magic, which do not feature a magic school, but are about a young British boy looking a lot like Harry Potter and training to become the greatest wizard of his era - and that despite being a story released seven years before Harry Potter. [* Again, to avoid confusion, this series is not the same as Tamora Pierce’s Circle of Magic, which ALSO deals with young wizards learning to control their powers - but this time was released in parallel to the Harry Potter series].
In a similar way, Harry Potter himself is the last of a long “bloodline” (inkline? Since they’re literary character) of fantasy series-protagonist that start out as young teenagers or kids, become sorcerer apprentice or wizards in training, and grow to be famous and heroic figures of the world of magic. Before Harry there was Pug, of the Riftwar Saga (later expanded into the Riftwar Cycle), and before Pug there was Ged from the Earthsea series.
While I do not usually include in those list too-recent works, because I brought up Harry Potter I am in the obligation to mention two big recent successes. On one side, the Japanese anime Mashle: Magic and Muscles, which is a very funny parody of the Harry Potter world, if it met the tropes and characters typical of recent seinen superhero mangas, such as One-Punch Man or My Hero Academia. On the other side, the American cartoon The Owl House, which gently mocks the problems inherent to the Harry Potter franchise, while offering its own alternate plotline about a teenager trying to learn magic in a world divided between “regular” humans and magical witches, only to be confronted with great evil powers beyond what she could imagine...
Two very different dreaded witches: on one side, The Lady from The Black Company, wife and former co-ruler of the dreaded sorcerous overlord The Dominator, and absolute mistress of the Ten Who Were Taken, vile wizards including some terrifying folks such as Soulcatcher, Shapeshifter, The Limper, The Howler or the Hanged Man... On the other, the witch-queen of Neil Gaiman’s Stardust, one of the three Lilim sisters of a fairy-land beyond a certain Wall... She was reinvented as the witch Lamia in the movie adaptation of the novel. I will also throw in another dreaded female magical entity invented by Neil Gaiman: The Other Mother, from Coraline - who is, after all, at one point called a “beldam”...
Not a book, not a movie, but a card game! The card game Magic: The Gathering deserves a mention, being one of the first and most famous collectable strategy card games, long before Japan overtook with the world with Yu-Gi-Oh, Duel Master and co. The original concept for the game was that each player embodied a wizard fighting another wizard, eac card being a different spell/magical artefact/summoned entity, and each deck was a grimoire/spellbook. The most notorious part of the game is its color system: the Five Colors, representing the various elements and energies of the multiverse, gathered in five different forms of magic forces/divine powers/philosophico-social ideologies. The White of light, peace, law and order. The Black of death, rot, sacrifice, greed and selfishness. The Red of chaos, fury, impulses, emotions, freedom and war. The Blue of intellect, knowledge, logic, deceit, trickery and illusions. The Green of life, nature, evolution and tradition.
To continue on the topic of games. For tabletop roleplaying games - Warhammer, the most famous dark fantasy RPG, whose wizards are divided by the Winds of Magic, the different types of magic powers: Aqshy the Red Wind of Fire, Chamon the Yellow Wind of Metal, Hysh the White Wind of Light, Ulgu the Grey Wind of Shadow, Azyr the Blue Wind of Heavens, Ghur the Brown Wind of Beasts, Ghyran the Green Wind of Life, and Shyish the Purple Wind of Death. For online, virtual roleplaying game, World of Warcraft, the most famous fantasy MMORPG to this day, with its character class of the Mage (sometimes called Wizard), a spellcaster and conjurer who can specialize in three “types” of magic: Frost magic, Fire magic and Arcane magic. They are not to be confused with the other magic-using classes of the game, such as the Shamans (totemic mystics invoking the spirits of their ancestors and manipulating the four elements), the Warlocks (curse-wielding summoners and enslavers of demons), or the Druids (healers, spellcasters and shapeshifters taking their power from nature itself, and celestial bodies such as the sun and the moon).
A few fantasy series centered around magic I heard about positively but haven’t had time to check out myself. Diana Wynne Jones’ Magids duology, with on one side Deep Secret, and on the other The Merlin Conspiracy. Angie Sage’s Septimus Heap series (especially the first book, Magyk, which I heard the most about). And Trudi Canavan’s Black Magician Trilogy.
Being a huge Deltora Quest fan, I will mention as a magical artefact the Belt of Deltora and its seven magical gems.
We have spent so much time talking about witches... But what about witch hunters? I will name two famous examples here. On one side, Solomon Kane, hunter and slaughterer of all things evils, eldritch and unholy, one of the two famous creations of Robert E. Howard alongside Conan the Barbarian, and whose adventures (just like those of Conan) are technically part of the Cthulhu mythos. On the other side, the Wardstone Chronicles, a brilliant little dark fantasy series for young adults, about the seventh son of a seventh son in a fictional version of Renaissance England learning to become a “Spook”, aka a hunter of ghosts, witches, goblins, demons and other evil gods.
Of course, being French I have to sprinkle a few French references in this list. For the foolish, cartoonish-evil sorcerer of children fiction: the evil alchemist/sorcerer Gargamel, the recurring and iconic antagonist of the comic-book, then turned cartoon, then turned hybrid movies, The Smurfs. For an evil but glorious wicked lady of dark magic, Karaba the witch from Michel Ocelot’s most famous animated movie Kirikou and the Sorceress, inspired by a traditional folktale of West Africa. For your classic Gandalf-like fantasy wizard: Zétide, the elderly but powerful wizard who serves as one of the protagonist of the fantasy series La Malerune, initially created by Pierre Grimbert but completed by Michel Robert. For your young adult fantasy hero: Ewilan, from the teenage fantasy series The Quest of Ewilan, an ordinary young girl discovering herself to be the true daughter of powerful sorcerers of another world, another world she will need to save with her own hidden magical powers. And to add a final “French touch”, the witch of Malcombe and Eusaebius the mage, the two magic-users whose actions start the plot of one of France’s most famous comedies, Les Visiteurs.
The French television series Kaamelott deserves an entire section, with its hilarious cast caricaturing the Arthurian mythos from beginning to end - from an inept and incompetent Merlin, to an annoying Lady of the Lake whose ghostly apparitions make everyone believe Arthur is mad, passing by a Morgan le Fay who is tired of constantly having to drag heroes’ corpses back to Avalon. And let’s not forget Le Répurgateur, a cruel, fanatical and overzealous inquisitor and witch-hunter of the early Christian Rome, who however carries numerous modern-day values and norms against the Celtic traditions still honored at Camelot (such as polygamy or a very loose definition of “justice”).
ADDENDUM:
I forgot to put in two items on the first part of this list, so I will add them here as a final conclusion.
When talking about the fairytales of the brothers Grimm that popularized some witch archetypes (Little Snow-White, or Hansel and Gretel), I forgot to evoke The Frog King (wrongly remembered today as “The Frog Prince”), which was the fairytale from which derives the cliche/stereotype/trope of a witch or a fairy turning anyone that displeases them into a toad or a frog.
And of course, I forgot to mention the most “real” of all the magics... The stage magic. The magic tricks of the magician with the top hat and black-and-white wand. The parlor tricks, and stage illusions, and children’s entertainment, and the great magicians that practiced this art: Isaac Fawkes, Robert-Houdin, John Henry Anderson, Herrmann the Great, Houdini, Harry Blackstone, Fred Kaps, and many many more... Pulling rabbits out of hats, changing the numbers and figures of card games, cutting ladies into two, pulling flowers or handkerchiefs out of thin air, and all these sorts of things...

Early DC villains adapted to live action PArt 1
Did this with Marvel ,thought it would be fun to do with DC .....Turns out DC adapted a lot of villains in the 20th century ,much more then Marvel did .....So this'll be a multi parter
The Mask played by Hans Schumm- from Spy Smasher(Havent seen this but should be noted as tfirst comic book villain adapted to another medium )
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Luthor played by Lyle Talbot-Superman vs the Atom Man (FIrst of many times we shall see Lex ,I thinkLyle Talbot is an underrated Lex ,nailing the classic mad scientist take on the character )
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Riddler played by Frank Gorshin in Batman/Batman the Movie/Legend of the Superheroes (The performance that boosted Riddler to one of the A list rogues and one of the best supervillain performances of the 20th century )
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Joker and Penguin played by Cesar Romero and Burgess Meredith in Batman /Batman the Movie (Cesar is a fun take on the more lighthearted Joker while Burgess Meredith to me is still the definitive PEnguin )
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mr Freeze played by George Sanders,Otto Priminger and Eli Wallach in Batman (The TV show actually changed his name from Mr Zero to Mr Freeze .SAnders is great,Priminger stinks , and Wallach is fun )
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Catwoman played by Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt in Batman(BOth are great takes on this classic femme fatale )
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Riddler , Mad Hatter ,Clock King ,False Face ,and the Puzzler ,played by John Astin ,David Wayne ,Walter Slezak ,MAlichai Thorne ,and Maurice Evans (AStins good but not on par with Gorshin ,David Wayne is fantastic ,Slezak is meh ,Thorne is terrifying and EVans is basically Riddler 2 but Shakesperaian
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Catwoman played by Lee Merryweather in Batman the Movie(PRobabbly my favorite of the 60's Catwomen )

I'm just gonna share this neat little indie animation, hand-drawn by SpikeyTortoise and created by Austin McConnell as part of the Super Zeroes Cinematic Universe!
Catman is a pilot episode featuring David Merryweather, bestowed with feline powers and nine lives! With strong retro Hanna-Barbera style of animation and cheesy noir elements, it's a fun superhero caper that embraces its very eccentric and cartoony tropes, especially their superhero protagonist!
It's pretty awesome and free to watch on YouTube!

Here’s an experimental drawing for a new style I’m testing out! These are two of my OC’s ( Dr. Sam Maxwell and Dr. John merryweather) they are drunk and celebrating a success. I don’t know how long it took me to make this, I’ve been working on it for the past couple of days at least. The lyrics of course are from Brian David Gilbert’s “ Gimmie! Gimmie! Gimmie! (A man after midnight)”

MASTERLIST OF WANTED CONNECTIONS
OOC Note: Below you’ll find a list of connections I’d love to have for my characters. These connections can be filled by existing characters within the rp, or new ones! You’re encouraged to contact me for any of these. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if anything interests you, I'd love to chat about it. Nothing here is set in stone, all is open for discussion and fun plotting.
For YUAN ANYA ( Read more about her )
YUAN FAMILY: ( New characters ) One or two relatives from the YiTish region of Wan. If they’re cousins, Anya only has male cousins back in Wan. The WC could be other members of the extended family. Any FC filling this connection must have Chinese heritage.
Helpful links: Yi Ti lore | WC for YiTish people in the North
Tumblr media
For SEFFORA MERRYWEATHER ( Read more about her )
TRADE CONNECTIONS FOR LONGTABLE: ( Existing characters ) 2 to 5 connections to Reach lords and ladies. Following the civil war in the Reach and the toll that took on her lands, Seffora has been working to reinvigorate trade and production in Longtable to better support her people, and to rebuild their sense of pride/worth in who they are and what they can achieve following the trauma of war. She's been seeking to establish strong bonds with other Reach regions. We can discuss in detail what wares could be traded, joint plans, etc.
Helpful link: Background of House Merryweather
Tumblr media
For CALLA LEFFORD ( Read more about her )
FIRST LOVE/CONFIDANT: ( New or existing character ) Age 31 - 36. Suggested FCs are Chris Evans, Oscar Isaac, Diego Luna, Charlie Cox, Jon Bernthal. This character would most likely be from the Westerlands or Westerlands-allied regions. This character’s story is entirely utp, I don’t have any pre-established headcanons, just that they were each other’s first love but ultimately things didn’t work out (Maybe his mother didn’t approve of Calla’s capricious nature? Perhaps Calla’s mom, Lanna, didn’t approve of him. We can brainstorm). What’s important is that they’re still close to this day (There could’ve been some distance during the Dance, but they’ve found their way back). They’re refreshingly honest with each other and have a way of understanding the other, which is something Calla doesn’t have with anyone else. He wouldn’t have neglected her/shamed her after the disastrous end of her marriage to Garland Hightower.
CHILDHOOD FRIEND: ( Existing character ) Age 28 - 33. I would love for Calla to have a close friend that she’s known all her life. Could be a friendship that has endured through to their adulthood, or has suffered because of time and distance. Since Calla was little, she was outspoken, capricious, and stubborn af; so this girl could be someone that marches at the same speed or someone with a calmer nature who helps to ground Calla a bit. Anyway, I’d just love a friendly bond, female friendships, and sorority between women is lovely and I want more of it, please. Taken connection → Alayne Farman
Tumblr media
For IONA TULLY ( Read more about her )
BETROTHED: ( New or existing character ). **Please note this connection doesn't mean they will in fact marry. This will be entirely based on their chemistry, or if we agree to let them have an entirely political marriage**. Age 32 - 38. Suggested FCs are Peter Gadiot, Charlie Vickers, César Domboy, Jack O'Connell, Dev Patel, David Oakes, Martin Sensmeier. Despite the reputation her late husband created of Iona being barren, this character's family might choose to look past the gossip and gain something from uniting with House Tully. Iona and this guy could've met in the past and perhaps interacted frequently due to her role as an ambassador. I'm open to all plots, really.

For DAERON DONDARRION ( Read more about him )
CLOSE FRIEND: ( New or existing character ) Age 31 - 35. A Stormlander, just like Daeron. These two would have been friends for years now, maybe not keeping in touch at all times, but always easing back into a sort of “found family” vibe. I’m open to any and all ideas, to explore what brings them together as friends and what makes them clash. I just want him to have a bro since his literal bros are dead and gone. Taken connection → Magnus Wylde
YOUNGER SISTER: ( New character ) Age 26 - 31. Suggested FCs are Blanca Suárez, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Isis Valverde, Alba Galocha, or any Spanish FC/FC with Hispanic heritage. Sibling dynamics are my weakness, so it would be amazing to have this lady in the game. She’s the youngest Dondarrion and is a lady-in-waiting to Queen Caerella. Daeron is protective of her since she’s the only sibling he has left, which can lead to some ride-or-die vibes or perhaps even her feeling smothered by his big bro protectiveness. There’s a lot to unpack in terms of the family and what they’ve been through with the deaths of the oldest brothers and their mom. It would be interesting to explore what her stance was/is about that. Also, as a woman of Blackhaven (heavily inspired by Basque heritage and as well as the calé people), a woman has a very important role within the family structure. There are beliefs about their virtue and whatnot, sure, but they’re very equal in standing to men, especially as wives (once they marry), so she wasn’t raised to become anyone’s shadow.

For LUCIUS RIVERS ( Read more about him )
MOTHER'S FAMILY: ( New or existing characters ) Lucius doesn’t know who was his mother, as Lord Blackwood never openly discussed the matter with him. He wasn’t even raised by her, given to a nursemaid a little after his birth. Whether his mother died in childbirth or if Samwell Blackwood wished to maintain her identity a secret (due to Lucius’ birth out of wedlock), remains unknown to him. In his teenage years, he did find a lock of golden hair between the pages of a book of romantic epics that used to belong to his father. I'd love to plot Lucius eventually learning who his mother was and potentially establishing a connection to his maternal side of the family. Or who knows, they might clash and hate each other.

Chapter 64: In the Shadows of the Troll Bridge
After managing to dodge reporters by going the backway through the woods, they finally arrived at the Toll Bridge.
"It always seems to come back to this place," Snow mentioned, as they stood before it, hands joined.
"It makes sense. We fell in love here…you found me after I wandered away from the hospital here. It makes sense that a physical symbol of our love might be somewhere around here," David said.
"The question is where," Emma replied.
"We better get to looking," Merryweather said, as they began to trudge in the woods and brush around the bridge.
"We've come so far from the time when you were sleeping out there near the bridge in a tent," Snow mentioned. He smiled.
"Yeah…it seems like a lifetime ago. We were so desperate to be together, yet willing to be apart for Emma," he recalled. She smiled and stepped on some soft ground. She yelped, as she lost her balance and he was quick to catch her, before she hit the ground. She looked up at him and smiled.
"There you are…always catching me," she said in a dreamy tone. He smiled and kissed her tenderly.
"And I always will," he said.
"Guys…I love you, but if you start making out, I'm leaving," Emma complained. They shared an amused smile and he started to stand up with her when something caught his eye.
"Charming?" she asked, as she noticed his stare.
"There's a cave," he replied, as he set her on her feet and crouched beneath the bridge, before brushing some overgrowth out of the way, revealing a cave.
"Well, look at that," Merryweather said, as they exchanged looks and then entered the cave.
"It's a weird place for a cave," Emma mentioned.
"Which probably means something," David said.
"Yeah…like that," Snow replied, as she pointed at the green glow ahead of them. They followed her and entered the mouth of the cavern, where a baby sapling rested in all its glory before them.
"Wow…it is real," Emma said in amazement.
"It's beautiful…but how do we use it?" Snow asked, as they touched it together and all the memories of their time together, including that first meeting they were previously unaware of, flashed in their minds. They shared a smile and then an idea occurred to Emma.
"I think I know how we can use this to our advantage," she said, as all attention turned to her.
"Aleister Bolt is drawn to all things rare and obviously wants to exploit us to the world, so taking the sapling with us and presenting it to him would spark his undivided attention," Emma said.
"Which could get us really close to him without as many guards," David replied.
"It's as good as any plan we can probably come up with, because short of this, Aleister will make sure he keeps his distance, while the media mobs us," Merryeweather said.
"Perfect…now we just need to get back to the apartment with this," Snow replied, as they began the trek back to town through the woods and in the back way.
Once they got up to the loft door though, they found Regina waiting for them.
"It's about time. Where have you been?" she asked, as she noticed the glowing green sapling in Snow's hands.
"And what's that?" she asked.
"Nice to see you too…what do you want?" Emma replied. Regina rolled her eyes and looked at Snow.
"We need to talk about your psychotic Aunt," Regina said, as David unlocked the door and Regina went into the apartment.
"Please…come right in," he said sarcastically, as they followed her in.
"I'm in no mood, Charming…and you're about to thank me for what I'm about to tell you," Regina replied. He snorted.
"This should be good," he muttered, as Snow gave him a nudge with her elbow.
"Okay…what's so urgent?" Merryweather asked.
"I went to see her at my…her office and she's planning something tomorrow night. Something to hurt you," she said, looking at her step-daughter. Emma raised an eyebrow.
"And she just told you that?" Emma asked.
"No…I pretended that I was interested in helping her with a plan to hurt you," Regina replied. David rolled his eyes.
"Of course you did," he said.
"I was playing her…ask Henry. He has an operation name for it and everything," she replied.
"Operation Mongoose," she added. Emma smirked.
"Sounds like Henry," she said.
"Anyway…Aleister gave her another magic mirror and she went right back to asking the same question she always asks and got the same answer," Regina replied.
"I don't understand her…I never asked for that title," Snow said.
"Maybe not…but she wants it and just killing you isn't good enough for her. She wants to do something to mar your beauty," Regina replied.
"Like what?" Merryweather asked.
"I don't for sure, but she mentioned acid. I think she plans to throw something like it in your face tomorrow night and she thinks I'm on her side," Regina replied.
"But you're not, because she and everyone she's brought to town is the bigger enemy," Emma surmised. She nodded.
"Yes…and I'm trying, for Henry and for me," she replied, which made Snow smile a little.
"So we need to make sure you are as far away from her as possible," David said.
"Yes…and the sapling should be a good distraction for the whole evening," Merryweather replied.
"Sapling?" Regina asked.
"Apparently, Snow and I encountered each other before we knew it. I rescued her from the Woodcutter and never saw her face back in our land, before we met," David explained. Snow smiled.
"There was the first spark of true love when our hands brushed and it created this sapling. Merryweather told us about it and we found it," she continued.
"And what do you plan to do with this?" Regina asked.
"Aleister loves rare things. We figure he'll be enthralled by something so rare and magical. We think it can get us close enough to him without his guards and that's when we'll make a grab for the wand," Emma replied. Regina was stunned and pleasantly surprised.
"That's…actually a decent plan," she said.
"Don't sound so surprised," David replied sarcastically.
"So we can count on you tomorrow night?" Emma asked. She nodded.
"Even if it is only for Henry's sake now…you are no longer my enemies," Regina replied.
"If we can get that wand…we can get rid of these outsiders, that stupid Casino, and anything that threatens our lives in the blink of an eye," she added.
"The question is what do we do with the wand after we seal Storybrooke off with a new barrier. It's too much power for one person," Snow interjected.
"It's a wand…Blue will make her case as head fairy that she should have it and that cannot happen. The magic in it was made by your love. We either vanquish it or release the magic from it and give it to the whole town," Merryweather said.
"Like Gold originally intended," David replied.
"Do you trust him?" Regina asked.
"A few months ago I would have said hell no…but since Neal came along, he's definitely trying to be better. Like you, I suppose," David replied.
"Let's focus on getting it first…then we can decide how to deal with that power," Emma suggested. They agreed on that for now and Regina left, as did Merryweather. Emma sighed and plopped down on the couch.
"How about some cocoa?" David asked.
"That would be great," Snow replied, as she sat down beside their daughter, who turned on the television. But that would not yield anything good, as what they saw shocked them. David heard them gasp and quickly came over to see what they were seeing. It was on the local channel and it was August, having been strung up on actual puppet strings, while Walsh narrated his sordid story.
"And if you're just joining us, this is a new segment I like to call Fairy Tale theater, where you'll be treated to the real story behind a different subject each evening and tonight, we've regaled the real story about none other than Pinocchio, whom, as you can see, did not remain a real boy. Probably because he became a lying thief, but don't worry, we've seen that he's returned to his rightful place," Walsh said.
"Crap…not even August deserves this," Emma commented.
"Agreed…and any of us could be next," David said.
"No…we'll get that wand," Snow said, as she looked at them with determination.
"We have to."

Narcissa stormed into the Casino and looked around at all the new tourists, enjoying it. She saw Lucian at the center of the Casino floor, wining and dining some people in suits. Investors most likely and she approached.
"Ahh…Ms. Blake, so nice of you to visit us. These are some potential investors that have come to see our humble little town," he boasted.
"Gentlemen, this is Narcissa Blake, our new Mayor and the namesake behind Blake Fashions," he said.
"A pleasure, I'm sure," she said, as she looked at him.
"I need to speak to you now," she said. He smirked.
"Please have a look around and I will be right back," he said, as they walked away.
"Do you have what I asked for?" she questioned.
"You mean the vat of acid you plan to throw in your niece's face tomorrow night?" he asked.
"Yes…" she hissed.
"It's not something easily transported, but I had some put into a small canister that you can bring with you. It's being delivered to your office. You'll only have one shot to get her," he said.
"I only need one…and once I do, my status as the fairest will be restored," she replied.
"My dear…you are quite unhinged. You have control of this entire town and your niece is but a spectacle. You should take my advice…and quit while you're ahead. Snow White has proven to be a force to be reckoned with. If you force her hand, I fear it is you that will be ruined," he warned.
"Save your advice…she has to suffer. When I'm done, people will gasp at the sight of her scarred and deformed face and she'll hide in shame. Even her precious Charming will have trouble looking at her," she said. Lucian rolled his eyes.
"If you say so…enjoy your revenge then and hope it doesn't backfire in your own face," he said, as she stormed out and he returned to his investors.
"Can we see your reservation?" one of them asked. He smirked.
"Of course…as the new Chief, I have already made significant upgrades to the quality of life on the rez," he said, as he gestured toward the exit.
~*~
"Don't worry…we'll be ready for anything and to assist with your plan," Billy said, as he hung up the phone and looked at Mathias.
"Do you really think we can succeed in obtaining the wand?" he asked.
"David seems to be confident. He said they discovered something today that may be enough distraction to make a move," Billy replied.
"And?" Mathias asked, knowing there was more.
"Narcissa Blake also has devised a plot to throw acid in Snow White's face. The Queen is acting as a double agent and informed them of her plan. It would seem your instincts were correct about her," Billy replied. Mathias smiled.
"A storm between light and dark has been warring inside the Queen for a very long time. But as it always does, love is winning," he said wisely.
"I just can't wait until these outsiders are gone and we can vanquish Lucian once again. He's already started up the drug trade here and the prostitution, not to mention the gambling. We're going to lose young people if he continues as Chief," he said.
"Do not fear, brother…the spirits are clear in this. True love will win the Final Battle," Mathias replied and that gave great comfort to Billy.

That evening, there was a knock at the Gold residence and Belle stood up to look out the peephole. What she saw made her gasp.
"Belle?" Gold asked.
"It's two men with FBI insignia," she said. Neal sighed.
"Feds…they're here for me," he replied.
"They're not getting you," Gold insisted.
"And without magic, there's not much we can do to stop them. They've probably got a warrant and they'll search the whole place," Neal said, as they knocked again.
"Maybe not…the basement has a panic room beneath the floorboard. The entrance looks like the floor and isn't easily identified," Gold said.
"Go…I'll stall them," Belle replied, as they headed downstairs. She took a deep breath and opened the door.
"Can I help you?" she asked.
"Federal agents ma'am…we have a warrant to search the premises for Neal Cassidy. He's wanted in two states for Grand Larceny. In light of his status as a longtime fugitive, this case has become a federal matter," one of the agents said.
"Oh…well, Neal isn't here," she replied.
"We still have to search the house," the other agent said, as they barged their way in. Gold returned from the basement and stood by, seething, as they turned the house upside down.
"Nothing…" one agent said.
"Then the basement," the other replied, as they went down there and flipped on the lights. They shined their flashlights around too, as the lighting wasn't the best, but saw nothing.
"Clear," one said, as they headed back upstairs.
"If you have contact with Neal Cassidy…you should contact us immediately," one agent said, as he tried to hand his card to Gold, but he remained stoic and refused. The agent placed his card on the coffee table and the two agents left. Belle sighed in relief and closed the door, before locking the deadbolt.
"They're gone," she called into the basement and Neal emerged.
"Yeah…so we need to get that wand and this is coming from someone who hates magic," he said.
"We will," Gold replied with determination.

David and Emma managed to patrol the next morning, even as reporters trailed them and followed them around.
"I fail to find what they think is so fascinating," David grumbled, as they came out of Granny's with a couple of coffees and got back into the patrol car. Emma sighed.
"Yeah…I can't wait until tonight so we can get that damned wand," she said, as her phone rang.
"Hey Neal…where have you been? I was worried when you weren't returning my texts," Emma said.
"Sorry…I've been laying low. The Feds searched my Dad's place last night. They have a warrant out on me. A Federal one," he said.
"Oh my God…how did they not find you?" she asked.
"Thankfully, my dad has a very well hidden and inconspicuous panic room he had put in the basement. Probably from all the times back in our land that the soldiers came and took young boys away to send them to war back in our land," he explained.
"Well…that means you can't come tonight. You need to stay in hiding," she said.
"No…I'm going to be there. I'm going to be where you and my son are. I'll stay in the shadows until it's time to make our move for the wand," Neal replied.
"Okay…just be careful," Emma said.
"You too…I'll see you later," Neal replied, as she hung up the phone.
"That didn't sound good," David said.
"The Feds have a warrant out on Neal. They tossed Gold's place last night. Fortunately, they didn't find him, but that won't hold long," she replied.
"No…we'll get the wand and this will be over. It's the only way," David said, as Emma froze and was looking at something.
"Speaking of the Feds…" she said, as he turned to his window and found an agent there. He signed and rolled the window down.
"We need to speak with you, Mr. Nolan…and you Ms. Swan," the agent said.
"It's Deputy Nolan and Sheriff Swan. We're law enforcement too," David responded.
"Not according to the United States government. You're lucky that Congress is still debating on what to do with this town. Some would have the military in here already and all the citizens of Storybrooke detained. Some aren't in favor of such extremes, but make no mistake, neither of you have any authority in this situation," the agent said. David clenched his fists and glared back at the agent.
"If we're not recognized as law enforcement…then why the hell would you think we'd abide by any of your laws?" David retorted.
"If you don't answer our questions, we'll be forced to arrest you and lock you up in your own jail," the agent countered and Emma put a hand on her father's arm.
"Dad…" she whispered. He sighed.
"Fine…what do you want to know?" he asked.
"Have you seen Neal Cassidy recently?" the agent asked.
"Can't say that I have," David answered.
"And you Ms. Swan?" the agent asked.
"No," she answered.
"And you expect us to believe that?" the agent asked.
"We don't really care what you believe. We answered your questions and now we'll be going," David replied, as he put the car in gear and they drove away.
"This is getting scary…" Emma admitted. David looked over at her and then reached for her hand to give it a reassuring squeeze,"
"We'll get that wand…" he said.
"And if we don't?" she asked. He looked ahead, as he drove them home.
"Then we get everyone we can and escape town," he replied.
"Witch Mountain?" she asked. He nodded.
"It's the last resort…but it's still on the table," David replied, as they parked and sneaked into the building through the back and up to the loft. Once they entered, Emma went up to the loft to get ready, while David went behind the current to get ready himself. He stopped though and was stunned by the vision before him. Snow turned to him and smiled.
"What do you think?" she asked, as he saw her in her white ball gown, which had a good overlay and accents, which would compliment the embellishments on his attire.
"Wow…I know you don't like that phrase, but you really are the fairest, most beautiful woman in all the realms," he said. She smiled coyly.
"I don't mind it so much when it comes from my handsome husband," she replied, as he took her in his arms and kissed her passionately.
"I just wish this ball was a happy occasion," he said. She smiled.
"It will be when we win and we'll celebrate with a family dinner at Granny's once this is all over," she replied. He smiled and kissed her tenderly again.
"Guess I better get ready," he said, as he went to change and she put a hand to her stomach.
"And that family will soon be plus one," she said quietly to herself. She wanted to tell him right away…but she knew their focus had to be on tonight's mission.
"We'll tell him after this is over, little one…" she whispered.

A blend of six unique barrel-aged beers, Firestone Walker Brewing releases XXVI.
Tumblr media
Press Release
Robles, CA: Firestone Walker today unveiled “XXVI”—the latest edition of its storied Anniversary Ale, blended once again with the help of local winemakers.
“We’re talking about a ‘who’s who’ of Paso Robles winemakers,” said Brewmaster Matt Brynildson. “We’re fortunate to call them our neighbors and friends, and they never disappoint when it comes to our annual blending session.”
The result this year is XXVI—a masterwork of flavor and complexity, blended from six distinct ales aged in bourbon and brandy barrels, marking the brewery’s 26th anniversary.
“This latest Anniversary Ale is just super delicious and refined,” Brynildson said. “It’s driven by two barrel-aged stouts, but it’s much more than that. It has this perfect balancing point with a lot of spirits barrel character, and there’s an underlying freshness that elevates the mouthfeel.”
XXVI is rolling out now in limited quantities to all Firestone Walker markets, and is available at each brewery location and online at FirestoneBeer.com for a limited time.
An Annual Rite Firestone Walker’s collaboration with local winemakers dates back to 2006, when Brynildson was tasked with creating the inaugural Anniversary Ale to mark the brewery’s 10th anniversary year.
“It’s a tall order to blend all of these distinct beers into a harmonious whole,” Brynildson said. “That’s why we bring in the winemakers—they are practicing experts in the art of blending.”
This year’s blending session marked the 17th occasion of this annual summer rite. As always, the winemakers broke into teams to create their own candidate blends from a variety of barrel-aged components. “We offered up a perfect spectrum of beers to choose from: a light and a heavy stout, an imperial brown ale, a golden ale and two styles of barley wines,” Brynildson said.
Next, the winemakers and brewers blind tasted all of the candidate blends, then voted as a group to crown the winner that would become XXVI.
XXVI: The Final Blend “It was nice to have our classic Bravo brown ale back in the mix as a complement to our Parabola and Velvet Merkin stouts,” Brynildson said. “Heavy Things contributed a subtle dimension of brandy barrel character. Finally, Helldorado and Wheat Wine added a splash of freshness to the beer.”
Parabola - Aged in Bourbon Barrels (32%) Russian Imperial Stout
Velvet Merkin - Aged in Bourbon Barrels (32%) Milk Stout
Bravo - Aged in Bourbon Barrels (24%) Imperial Brown Ale
Heavy Things - Aged in Brandy Barrels (6%) Barley Wine Made in Collaboration with The Bruery
Helldorado - Aged in Bourbon Barrels (4%) Blonde Barley Wine
