You know with fanfic in particular this whole epidemic of writers who aren’t bilingual or poc, or haven fucked and sucked, or been in a long term relationship, haven’t been engrossed in certain cultures and communities, haven’t been in life changing situations, haven’t ever had drugs and alcohol choose to write about those experiences, which is one sense is totally okay! But they begin become a source of perspective and create tropes that other people (who exclusively only read fanfics) replicate and then it become this bubble where you can read something and see it was formed by someone who has consumed mostly fanfics and it’s like bad surrealist art of someone’s else’s surrealist art, neither of which is actually close to depicting the thing it’s trying to depict like fun house mirror with no fun. Mostly about bad sex scenes but also about everything else too.
