Ask Comp 13/05
@garnetduodecim asked: I always assumed jack spent the first 4 hours in the troll session, before destroying prospit, destroying Aradiabots, there were A LOT of them.
Maybe one of the Aradiabots got in a lucky shot, and was able to tag him with a weaker, non-God Tier variant of her freeze ability. That'd certainly at least delay him.
@morganwick asked: So, you were talking about Aradia "injuring" Vriska (post/704357246751113217) and comparing Vriska to a fairy godmother character (post/722100305374986240)?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
@manorinthewoods asked: Serendipity Gospels is by Tamsyn Muir??? Really? Um, that's… hoo. That was one of the fanfics that I didn't end up liking. Might need to revisit that. Side note: 'Doc Scratch's School for Supernaturally Gifted Adolescents' feels more like something Locked Tomb-esque to me. So that's really… ah. ~LOSS (3/5/24)
I do wonder how similar the Gospels are to TLT's writing style.
Actually, can anyone confirm at what point the fic will be safe to read? I could just wait until I'm reading panels from after its publication date, but if I can check it out before, I will.
@abysswarlock asked: Ooh I’ve had this hypothesis for a while now but you just said something that made me lock in my guess that your classpect is Prince of Doom
The classpect wheel continues to turn!
I'm married to Doom for at least one of my 'sonas, but my Class is still up in the air, since we know even less about them than aspects.
@manorinthewoods asked: As a sort of Part 2 to that sylladex comment - how do you think the Sylladex works? Do you think that Homestuck will go into more detail about Sylladices, or do you think they'll fade into the background as different aspects of the magic system come to the fore? ~LOSS (24/4/24)
I think the latter is a lot more likely. Most aspects (lol) of Homestuck's magic system are there to serve the story first and foremost. As much as I'd love the comic to turn into a treatise on Sburb deeplore, it really doesn't feel like something Hussie would be interested in doing.
The story won't really suffer without, say, a detailed explanation of every facet of alchemy - I just really like speculating, because I'm all about shit like that.
@heliotropopause asked: What are your thoughts on Homestuck's translation convention(s)? As an example, take page 2251, line "Arrivederci, Megido.": Is she writing in something close enough to Earth English to scan as such to the reader, no translation necessary? Is Vriska saying a word in Troll Italian, which gets translated to Earth Italian? Is she expressing a sentiment in her usual language that's best translated as the word "arrivederci" as it's used in English? Has Doc Scratch secretly been translating all cross-species communication we've seen so far?
Tumblr media
Vriska's arrivederci seems diegetic to me. If we inherited English from Alternia, it makes sense that some of our other languages might come from there too.
tl;dr: Troll Italy is real 🇮🇹
Anonymous asked: im not one to dip my toes into The Vriscourse but this one piece of analysis i really liked is that vriska is jealous of tavros, that hes had a much easier life compared to her and that hes allowed to be more of a wimp while she has to be the toughest fuck alive or else shell die
It's only one piece of the Vriska-Tavros puzzle, but it's an important one. She'll refuse to acknowledge it to the end, though, because the idea of being jealous of Tavros is disgusting to her.
@obscureaeguran asked: Are there any current theories of yours that you want to be wrong about?
Confident as I am in my Vriska death theory, I don't actually want to be right.
I really like Vriska's character, and I want to see her grow past the worldview that's preventing her from finding peace. I just don't think that's likely, given her current trajectory.
Anonymous asked: 'In what universe are 13-year-olds the people most qualified to make universes?' well per the beta version of homestuck (when hussie wanted to make the whole thing in flash before deciding against it) they were all going to be 10 instead, i think this is the much better option!
How young can we go, anyway?
Tumblr media
AU where the Homestuck Babies aren't sent to Earth at all, and just start playing immediately.
@manorinthewoods asked: Have you played Deltarune? ~LOSS (9/4/24)
I have! I was actually replaying it on day one of the liveblog - hence the several references I made to it at the time. That feels forever ago, now.
@bladekindeyewear asked: Jade changed pretty drastically as a person after her dreamself died, if you think about it— demanding Feferi stop using her quirk in chat, standing up to the trolls for the first time, getting angry, to such an extent that Karkat was so surprised that it turned his opinion of her around completely in a single conversation. Even forcing a password system to keep talks linear instead of using cloud visions to do everything out of order. This doesn’t just feel to me like dream Jade being a “different individual”, it also feels like a metaphorical confrontation between her NEW self and her OLD self…
I think it's both.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jade's been through a lot in the last couple of hours, and she really isn't the same girl who died on Prospit.
Being an oracle of Skaia's visions led to disaster. They showed her that John's Dream Self would awaken, leading her to believe she was finally going to meet him, but neglected to mention that she'd die the moment he opened his eyes - or that Prospit would die alongside her.
Tumblr media
As a result, the new Jade seems to have made a decision to completely reject all prophetic information. She'll supply the minimum possible intel to her past self, and no more.
Tumblr media
It's clear her Dream Self's death was a catalyst for a pretty dramatic shift in her worldview. She's angry - at the trolls, at herself, and at the world that betrayed her trust. She's tired of being jerked around, and her tumultuous emotions are making her rather testy. Basically, she's sick of all the bullshit, and she won't take it from anyone anymore.
Jadesprite has experienced the same catalyst, and has also come to mistrust the clouds, but for different reasons.
Tumblr media
Jade rejects prophecies, in part, because she doesn't want to be deceived - but Jadesprite rejects them out of sheer hopelessness. She just doesn't care anymore.
They both have the same trauma, but they're dealing with it in very different ways - and at this point, I really do consider them to be different people.
Tumblr media
And then on a metaphorical level, Jadesprite represents the 'silly', absent-minded childhood self that got Jade into this mess.
I think this taunt from Karkat hit very, very close to home for her, and I'm sure she associates the traits he described with her idyllic days on Prospit. It's part of why Dream Jade is such a perfect target for her fury.
@spyril4132 asked: i beg to differ on the entry item similarities only applying to prospit. iirc, rose shatters a bottle, and dave hatches an egg; both involve breaking open some sort of "shell", and neither are associated with a larger object, which could be seen as similar types of items. (while jade does break a piñata, she does so by shooting it, not by splitting it apart)
It's true that Rose and Dave's object's have some physical similarities, but John and Jade are both summoning the same tree, which feels like a much stronger connection.
Rose and Dave's entry cards also summoned auxiliary items, but they were different - a cabinet and bird, respectively. From where I'm sitting, the link between the two Prospit items does seem unique.
@skelekingfeddy asked: what herptiles would sally and sahlee have as their consorts? i feel like a monitor lizard would fit for one of them…maybe losas has like, turtle or tortoise consorts, what with their long-livedness and the wise sagely vibe and all.
I was thinking pretty much the same thing for Sahlee. Let's say they're Galápagos tortoises, because the Sage gives me Oogway vibes.
For Sally's Consorts, I'm going to get really funky and say they're a type of pterosaur.
@sparten4ever92 asked: The HS version of Megalovania is slept on way too much, the Vriska guitar adds so much to it that the UT version just doesn't have. @sanctferum asked: Finally, MeGaLoVania by Toby Fox (feat. Joren "Tensei" deBruin on guitar)! Would you say that Tavros had an…unpleasant chronological progression? (btw I do love the bit of Spider's Claw that plays during the Vriska segment, which is (obviously) unique to this Megalovania) also, the audiovisual style of homestuck flashes is just really cool imo @mimescantscream asked: You have no idea how long we've waited for the Megalovania
This version of Megalovania was a great choice for Aradia's finest hour - or at least, her finest hour so far.
It's moments like this which are why I decided to stop listening to the albums in advance. If I hadn't first heard Aradia's Megalovania in this flash, it wouldn't have hit the way it did.
@elkian asked: MEGALOVANIA TIME BAYBEEEE! Also, let's go back to that theory you had about Aradia getting more alive, because you NAILED it. @iris-in-the-dark-world asked: i am so excited to see aradia again and finally as herself :33<
Tumblr media
She's fucking BACK, baby!
Seeing Aradia smiling for real after all this time is genuinely heartwarming - and with her time-stop attack, she's almost unkillable. It'd take some absolute nonsense to take Aradia out of the picture again, and I think she'll be sticking around for a long time. Hopefully forever.
@grippingtraverse asked: notice any similarities during megalovania between aradia vs. jack & sans vs. player? 0u0
The best I can come up with is that Aradia and Frisk are both time travelers whose signature color is red.
Or maybe Jack is the Frisk analogue, since he's the one wiping out all life in the session, and Aradia is the last foe he faces.
@captorations asked: please consider, with this new information about aradia, what it could mean for her literary descendant dulcie septimus. please also keep considering this as you continue and see more of aradia. i am very normal about both of these characters
Ooh, they do have similar vibes, don't they? They're both doomed, they're strongly associated with death, and they both have a cheerful side that comes out when you don't expect it to.
@duorogue asked: "You have to give Nepeta some credit. The literal first thing she did after this traumatic murder was log into Trollian and report on Jack’s activities." To be fair to her, when I have a bad nightmare the first thing I do is log onto discord
nepeta hopping on mic at 2am to complain about the hat man (the hat man is doc scratch)
@absinthe-and-alabaster asked: when the writ keeper was introduced as fifth exile you mentioned that it was a little fucked up how the king was the only prospitian that was preserved - i just wanted to remind you that no, he wasn't ! on page 1974 we see all the other prospitians that were exiled with the white queen on her ship (including ms paint!) WQ just left them to go wander the desert
Tumblr media
I'd actually forgotten about that. So much happened during the Act 4 ending that it completely slipped my mind. I even missed Ms. Paint!
Anonymous asked: Hey, as you noticed, the Dave Coin Split is a plot hole. We've never seen the timeline split because of someone's choice before. Compare to John flying to the seventh gate, there weren't two timelines based on his choice, the timeline only changed because Dave came back from the original timeline and changed it. And of course, like you said in the tags, Terezi shouldn't have been able to communicate with Doomed Dave, including to tell him the result of the FL1P. Have you noticed any other plot holes or things that don't seem to make sense?
While I see what you're saying, it might not necessarily be a plot hole! Certainly the Dave Coin Timeline was created in a different manner to Davesprite's - but that might just mean there are multiple ways to split a timeline, or that there are certain requirements that must be fulfilled for a decision to spawn one.
Because of things like that, it's hard to tell whether something's actually a plot hole, or if it'll eventually make sense in light of later reveals.
This is particularly true for aspects of the plot involving time travel, like the one you just described. Like, remember before I learned about Doomed Timelines, when I thought Davesprite broke Homestuck's predestination rules?
Anonymous asked: You said "God Tiering is just another way to inhabit your Dream Self," so do you think the things that Dream Selves can do (such as Jade growing extra arms) can be done by God Tiers?
I never really thought about that!
I think it's definitely possible. God Tier bodies can fly the same way that Dream Selves can, so other powers might transfer, too. Maybe the only reason Vriska, Aradia and John aren't shapeshifters is because Jade hasn't taught them to how to dream up extra limbs.
Tumblr media
She might be one of the only Dream Selves who've learned how to shapeshift this fluidly. Logging thousands of hours on Prospit has its perks!

hi im really interested in your hot takes on the classpects. as i was reading through that post about how homestuck is about breaking or following the narrative my first thought was about how this probably leads to a very different interpretation of the classpects than ive usually seen, but im not sure if im familiar enough to think it all out myself - and then i saw you mention offhand you have Hot Takes about it so. color me curious?
YOU ARE QUITE RIGHT IN THAT ASSESSMENT!
ok here's my take: it's literally Not That Deep. sburb is an incomplete RPG, not a deity or a greater consciousness. it doesn't actually know what is good for the players personal development. it is entirely skin-deep.
this is reflected in the performatively hollow echeladder mechanic, and in the sprites- who, lest we forget, are NPCs. that's why they're so 'mysterious.' they exist only to keep players on track, and 'the following quest objectives are HIGHLY PERSONALIZED to help you reach your full potential! great answers await you!' is a line written to serve that purpose. jaspersprite drops the facade a little bit and reveals he has no idea what he's talking about, the game is just making him say it
in keeping with this, classpects are not determined by people deep interior selves. they are determined by surface-level observations and by party optimization. the game generates a handful of possible classpects based on traits like 'bookish,' 'pirate' and 'cheerful,' then cross-references that with balanced team builds. the alpha session, being less complete, lacks the party optimization algorithm
Roxy is a do-good hacker (criminal) who uses an appearifier, she's a rogue who makes stuff appear out of nothing. Dirk carries on about being a leader and being toxic, he's a prince who destroys souls. Jake is weak/insecure and ignores reality, he's the 'untapped potential' class with the power to imagine things into existence. Jane is the only one who seems a little less literal, and I suspect that has to do with the Condesce, since she was the one who released the sburb alpha. Condy is a life player, therefore Jane is a life player (plus, she has that penchant for foiling assassination attempts, avoiding death) and she's a maid because Condy wants a handmaid
Aradia robs graves, Dave collects dead things, Caliborn is into murder, time is the death aspect. Callie, Jade, and Kanaya are all artists, space is the creation aspect. Karkat fantasizes about being a member of the royal army and he's obsessed with his blood, he's a knight of blood. I could go on but you get the point lol. classpects are superficial and depend heavily on what balances well, not your personal truth
likewise, I think your average '[closest object to you] + [current weather condition] = your sburb planet' type meme is pretty much exactly how the sburb planets actually work. they're not 'designed to challenge people' beyond the literal quest challenges
i think this reading immediately clears up a lot of apparent inconsistencies in the comic, like how Dave's planet is his own personal hell while Vriska's planet is her own personal heaven. the game doesn't actually know how they feel about these things or what would help them grow

yo my name is nyx, it's my birthday today (2/3). my birthdays have sucked SHIT the past few years for reasons that are depressing—
—cringe is also dead, i killed her myself, and i'm still grieving her loss. its been very hard for me—
—since i am the protagonist of Me and can do st abt this, this year i turn 31, and i will at some point turn 31.4, with all of this in mind, what do i want for my birthday? i'll tell you:
to talk about homestuck.
i'll do that, anyways, but you'd be doing me a gift by giving me a prompt to follow, and to feel slightly more validated in my inability to shut up about my hyperfixation.
so i'm asking YOU to talk about homestuck with me.
talk to me abt homestuck? ask me my headcanons. my thoughts. my relationship to the work. tell me yours. expect nothing that's profound, and plenty that's stupid.
i'm even turning anon on, for the first time in 6 fucking years. where making this happen.
this never expires btw. today is my birthday, but, for story purposes, let's say that it's still my birthday after it isn't, bc i will still want and, if i am honest, NEED you to talk to me about homestuck for years onward. i'm very metatextual like that.
i get the feeling it's going to be a long day.
>Nyx: Be the other guy.
You are now the other guy! What will you do?
>Web Tumblr User: Inbox Tumblr user souji-upseta?
>Mobile App Tumblr User: Do that, but hyperlink is unavailable?
=(n×∞)>
FOURTH WALL BREAK!
you are now nyx again, and i am now me, and i need to exposit some lore.
as in, some starting points to get u going, since "homestuck" is a very broad subject:
•i'm a massive massive slut for the epilogues and post canon content/hsbc. pesterquest is too good for this gay earth.
•dirk is my fav, ALL of the dirks, all of them, and it isn't even close. my fav relationship is the canon platonic/familial one between dirk and dave. i fucking love the striders. dave is my 1.5th fav.
•im more invested in dave's relationship to corndogs (and corn dogs) than you even know.
•mspa reader is my second fav after the striders, bc they are a good thembo friendsimp and also bc they are me and they are You. i might be biased. i love You. i love me. i love us. we're fucking gr8.
•im pretty canon-compliant, so my fav ship is dirkjake as exes (for now), and my fav ship as not-exes is panquadrant (canon) davekat.
i'm also really fascinated by rosemary and would welcome more opportunities to learn abt and talk about them but if homestuck makes a statement about anything it's to let the women and the sapphic characters tell their story (thats a joke, talk to me abt them too)
•june eg(g)bert real.
•i'm fascinated by classpects and the applications of paradox space's classpecting and extended zodiac system when applied to real life, since our only experience of those fictional systems is in linear dimensions of spacetime, and our only experience of astrology is as a species that in-universe cannot experience the sign caste system the same way the fictional aliens that created our species in their own image do. skaia knows, but we sure as fuck don't.
•i'm a former prince of heart (2012-2020) and a current knight of space, and my aspect is light. that is a thing that actually makes perfect sense for the reasons i just said.
don't ask me about vriska serket or (vriska) serket. not bc i'm not willing to discuss dark or problematic characters (hello, lanque bombyx) but bc:
for one, she can speak for her damn self, and has, tyvm.
for two, talking at length about a problematic character in any positive capacity marks you as an enemy of the state if that character is a woman, and being an enemy of the state is way too much fucking pressure for me for reasons i already explained as soon as i told you i'm a knignt of space. i wouldnt make a very good enemy of the state. it'd be an unhealthy blackrom relationship to the detriment of us all.
for three, i can just give you all my opinions/headcanons on vriska that matter:
•JOHN HUGGING VRISKA IN HSBC YESSSSSSSSSS
•she's greasy and gross and unkept af but not unclean or unsanitary, like, she bathes, she smells fine, she changes her clothes, but she's got the troll crust punk aesthetic absolutely on LOCK. she doesn't comb her hair.
•it would have been funny if she did even more bad things
•aradia did nothing wrong. vriska did but the meme is funny even if someone needs to take that meme out back and shoot it for the good of humanity.
•she should beat up ultimate dirk, and my reasoning for that is bc that would, also, be really fucking funny if she did
•john has both punched her in the face and hugged her, and now that john has punched aranea in the face, all that's left is for june—i assume she will have come out of her egg(bert) by then—to hug aranea and complete the circle of stupidity.
•she is trans yeah but she doesn't wanna get into it, she doesn't have to, and neither do i.
•vrisrezi most important relationship in homestuck.
there. you already got me to talk about vriska at length, and you didn't have to try. moot issue.

CLASSPECTING 101: INTRO TO RPG CLASSES
Back in the beginnings of the RPG genre, before game cartridges had the storage space for "dialogue" or "characters" or "personality," games were written entirely in shorthand. Characters were unnamed units whose entire identity revolved around their particular moveset.
This was referred to as their job or their class.
Tumblr media
(Early Final Fantasy leaned into this especially hard, as playable characters had no names or unique designs. Their only differentiating factor was their Class.)
For a while, this worked.
RPGs on the (S)NES didn't have the storage space to write actual personalities for each of the party members, so when introducing a character, they simply say: "You are a hero. You must save the world from giant evil shadow skull. This is your class. Have fun!" Classes were designed to abstract/imply the illusion of character.
This is because writing characters (even when you aren't confined to a 1MB cartridge) usually comes down to what a character can/would do, and what a character can't/won't do. Characters are actions.
We call characters that fight monsters and save the day "good guys," and characters who burn down villages and slaughter innocents "bad guys." Characters are choices. Choices are actions.
A character that fights monsters using their giant sword feels different from a character that fights monsters by shooting fireballs. Characters are methods. Methods are actions.
Classes abstract all of these above character components by saying "every character of this type can do these things."
All Warriors are very buff, but lack magic. All Mages have magic, but are pretty scrawny. A White Mage uses magic to heal, whereas a Black Mage uses magic to harm!
The above list isn't what we'd currently consider "personalities," it's just a list of actions that characters can choose from, but it tricks the player into imagining personalities instead. They hand you a list of actions, and ask you to create a character that would do them.
If characters are actions, then Classes are "pre-built characters."
youtube
(The player characters never speak. They quite literally have no personality. Their only method of communication/individuality is their specific list of spells/skills.)
So, why does this matter?
Homestuck, at its core, is an RPG pastiche. A deconstruction of themes inherent to the genre. Analyzing RPGs can help us analyze Homestuck.
Classpecting is one of the more obvious examples of deconstruction, as Sburb Classes are very clearly derived from genre classics (Dungeons & Dragons, Final Fantasy, etc.), all recontextualized to ask the hard hitting questions:
"Isn't it kinda fucked up to be assigned a generic label that describes all the actions you've ever done/will ever do?"
Yeah, kinda! It speaks to a larger "dehumanizing" effect that Sburb tends to have on players, abstracting them into units with certain roles, functions, and responsibilities.
Wouldn't it suck to be a character in one of these RPGs, with a whole backstory, personality, and rich inner world, all to have a "higher power" reduce you down into what you can do (moveset), how good you are at it (stats), and what they'll use you for (player strategy)?
This is one of the main pillars of Homestuck: Being a video game character is an inherently degrading experience.
"Does 'what you're good at' decide your Class, or does your Class decide what you're good at?"
Homestuck is a mess of bootstrap paradoxes, so you can argue this either way and probably be right. The answer is probably a constantly looping "both."
But, now that I'm thinking about it, I personally lean toward "Class decides what you're good at."
If Skaia decides what your Class is at "inception," then it could be argued that you excel at certain things to help prepare you for the role you were (literally) designed for. Your hobbies and interests are off-screen coaching for your on-screen role.
To bring it back to RPGs, think of the (oftentimes generic) backstory you pick for a TTRPG character to justify them having the skills Talk To Animals and Explode Undead. You create what they did before the game as justification for actions they can do during the game.
Except Sburb does this on a cosmic scale, crafting your entire life up until the game to prepare you for playing it. Sucks! More on this in a future post.
"Are all characters of the same Class the same guy? Or at least the same type of guy?"
In early RPGs? Yes!
In a quite literal sense, all characters of the same class were essentially the same exact "person." Same design, same role, same methods. With no dialogue or personality to differentiate them, if you made a party of four White Mages, they'd essentially all be clones!
(This isn't entirely true, though. More on that at the bottom.)
In Homestuck? No!
This is partially because Classes are only half of Classpects, a more complex idea where your RPG Class is paired up with a "metaphysical element" known as an Aspect. With 12 Aspects, that means there's 12 versions of every Class.
Basically, you can have two Knights in the same party, but they can still be incredibly different (albeit similar!) units under this system.
Tumblr media
(Dave and Karkat, on top of being a Certified Premium Yaoi Stock™, are a great case study for the similarities/differences between same Classes of differing Aspects.)
Yet, even if we ask this question again with Classpects instead of Class, the answer remains the same: you can have two characters with the same exact Classpect, and they'll still be noticeably different people.
How the hell does that work? Well, for starters, Homestuck is a story that does actually have character writing.
You can have two characters that perform similar actions (ex: Dirk and Equius are designed to have very similar traits, interests, and habits, even down to exact actions) and their Classpects will still be completely different (Prince of Heart vs. Heir of Void).
Likewise, you can have characters of the same exact Classpect (and identity!) perform incredibly different actions.
Tumblr media
(Calliope and Alternate Calliope (CAL and AL, for short) are one of the best examples of completely different characters with the same Classpect. And they're even the same character, technically!)
This is where the crux of Classpecting as an artform is. Mechanically, if heavily differing characters can be the same "thing," and very similar characters can be different "things," then what is it that Classes and Aspects decide?
We're going way overtime, so I'll answer a question by rewording an earlier question:
"You have a Pokémon team made up of, let's say, six Dunsparce. Are all these Dunsparce the same exact thing? What could be different between them? What would always be the same?"
If you read this far: Sorry! Didn't mean to get this carried away! Thanks, though. Marrying two topics I care a lot about (game design and Homestuck) is a pretty good way to pass the time, it turns out.
If you think you know the answer to the above question, feel free to chime in. I'll give my two cents whenever I follow up on this topic.

we hope we're remembering right that you've done classpects before. if not ignore this delete us. otherwise, have you ever classpected your own characters.. would you be willing to indulge us.. (any of the ones you want meow)
yes i loooove classpecting i actually used to classpect my ocs all the time during my peak homestuck phase (i would also get their mbti, zodiac signs, prolly some other shit, i was really into personality tests).
i havent done it w any of my current ocs though and if i have i dont remember so i shall indulge you spontaneously! with the spaceguyz rn cause they have an amount of lore which helps eheheh.
bax is a knight no fuckin question easy peasy. i cant explain it hes a knight. im leaning towards life as his aspect. given his relationship with death ahaha... i think it would be beautiful thematically.
clam im less sure on but im leaning towards thief of mind. i think he is very selfish inherently and his lust for knowledge makes it fit very deliciously i think.
roy is a seer or heir tbh i cant choose. i think her aspect would be light. the double meaning of fortune and knowledge is just soooo perfect for her imo and she is def a passive class 1. because out of all of them she probably is the most altruistic even if its not an intentional thing aha and 2. she isnt very meddlesome. i think her effects on others around her are unintentional
kip i think is also a knight -- maaaybe a rogue but i feel like knight fits so well because of his need- moreso requiremennt -to protect others. his aspect is ABSOLUTELY breath this is another one that took no thought there is no other alternative.
tally was reaaaally fucking difficult for some reason but ive decidedd i like page of time for him. i think it makes sense for him to be kind of passive classwise and i love the implication of him having this huge mine of untapped power that might never be utilized. i think the exploitation part is good also.
ive read that pages may lack their aspect at the start of a session- i think that works really well for him + time is related to inevitably, timelines, fate, etc which i enjoy, i feel like it makes him the heart of the group in a way. it means hes needed :D
you may notice: they dont have a space aspect. their session is doomed. however! what if their lawyer/kips ex got in on the session.....
auggie is a mage of space i think. he is a knowledgey guy. and in a literal sense he is not a part of the main crew giving a sense of "space" ahhaha. i dont feel like saying much more about this one i think it fits great though.
do you like classpecting? would/have you ever classpected your guys.....

The biggest thing I find disappointing about any of the "official" sequels to Homestuck, is that... They don't really expand on Homestuck.
They simply add problems, that weren't needed, and are churning out solutions, that didn't matter--because the problems in the first place weren't needed.
My idea of a Homestuck sequel would be to have the world-build, because now we have that idea of the "world" and how it "works", but start from scratch (haha).
Make new characters in classes and aspects we haven't seen yet, or didn't see enough of (Mages and Thieves and Sylphs, oh my, Dooms and Rages and Blood, oh my!). Make new characters that have new remixes of classes and aspects we already know of.
Make new inner memes and repetitions, Homestuck is nothing if not repetitious. Have some actual fun with your sequel. I can't imagine the current stuff being Fun, not with what's its building from.
Say something new in the story, or say something old in a different way. HS is all about ridiculous bullshit all the time anyway, just as much so as its about serious shit all the time always.
Personally, I'd rather not go through SBURB again, I'd want to see how HS works without SBURB being the main focus--or maybe have a SBURB that is completely off its knocker and is impossible to play, as its background.
( Earth C is a perfect place for that )
There are, of course, several things that can be expanded and thoroughly explored that HS leaves open.
Throughout your life, you are going to have more than one class or aspect. I know huh? Its a thing we've seen out of the Adults that pop up in HS--they always have at least one more class and aspect, and are capable of performing those classes and aspects successfully. And this even falls in line with typical character dynamics on writing and comprehension. A 3D character changes depending on what situation they're in and who they're with. And with such, we can assume that HS is about your Core unchangable Classpect--Who are you that is you?-- But now, let's have another!
All your Lives are Connected Yeah yeah sounds like Utilma-Self horseshit. But there is clearly a thing to explore here; you are connected to yourself, throughout time and space. So even if one of yourself dies, it'll still live on as long as you exist.
The Afterlife Okay, we've seen hints, maybe, but now I kinda want to know how this works without Dream Bubbles. Dream Bubbles are a SBURB thing, and even then, its only sessions that touch on the Troll Session (Like the human one), who get access. And even then... its only for Players. Everything else is a recorded memory.
What's a universe like when it has its Gods? Its clear that when SBURB makes a universe, its generally intended that its players become its gods of that universe. So... what happens when that does actually happen, and not some tomfuckery coming along.
And of course, this is just the HOmestuck World-Build stuff.
You can tell so many different stories from this, from any variety, from silly to serious (And in HS's case--both). Hell, take someone off the street, throw them randomly at this, see how they react, that sort of deal.
And it can be done, without slogging HS's characters through the murk.
If the intention of the current "sequels" were to make things tired, dragged out, and not even fun anymore... Yeah congrats. The story worked as intended. So much so that I'm not even going to keep up with it.
That's how tired its made me.
ADDENDUM:
A lot of people, found comfort, relation, and personal importance, in HS's characters.
And what was done to several character, was a horrible, disgusting, and terrible thing to do, to characters that people found comfortable, relatable and personally important.
And How it was handled afterwards, whether it was staged or not, was A Shit Way to Handle It.
Occurring at a time and place in history where you Should Not Have Fucked That Up.
Because of this, I am not going to accept the "Sequels". I'm not going to accept any justification for the "Sequels".
As far as I'm concerned, Homestuck ended with Homestuck, a silly ridiculous serious webcomic that lasted a very long time and long after the time period it was in (To a point where nobody remembers what early '10s / late 00's internet was like), no publication attached.

I've been following your Umineko readthrough and been interested in a lot of the ways of reading you're employing - I think you've had a lot of insight relatively early into the story. I'm also very drawn to the fannish taxonomic Mode Of Engagement that is classpecting, and wanted to question a little of your classpecting of George - one of the things about him that jumped out from very early on was the ways in which his superficial presentation as a Nice Guy belies the strongest inheritance of Ushiromiya Family Values among the cousins - he looks up to Hideyoshi and Kinzo as businessmen, he defends Rosa's parental rights over Maria, he has dynastic aspirations of his own through homemaking and going out to make his fortune. Given the western fascistic overtones of Kinzo's occult fascination, obsession with the image of western beauty in Beatrice, and the prioritisation of a regimented, patriarchal power structure maintained through violence and fear, this has implications for George's character - and the aspect most closely associated with the charismatic cult of personality in business and empire through homestuck strikes me as Life, not Space - see the condesce, see Jane-as-white-suburbanite in homestuck and of course see anything to do with Jane in postcanon.
that's interesting! i do think there are a lot of george/jane overlaps and i did entertain life!george for a while since a lot of his character shtick is Emulation Of Kinzo's Ideals (kinzo himself is definitely Life by every measurable metric) but the thing that gave me pause is that this version of george clearly isn't real and is a version of himself he struggles to maintain convincingly enough to give himself any real benefits. George The Adult, to use the frameworks from my writeups, is almost certainly a Life player but George The Adult is a paper-thin mask that has no connection to his inner self.
behind the mask we have George The Kid who is much more concerned with establishing his own selfhood/"empire" rather than merely inheriting the ushiromiya system. his primary interest when not playing the cringe heir part is in wooing shannon and a strange jealousy towards the idea that battler is more successful at establishing and forming relationships with he is. i think this bitterness and loneliness extends beyond the Life framework and has more in common with jade harley's Space-esque desperate isolation. in homestuck postcanon we see jade throw herself into forming unhealthy doomed relationships and families with both the davekat and yiffy situations. both george and jade want something that is truly and unconditionally their own more than anything else, even if this desire is expressed in radically different ways. that said, i can very easily see george ending up with a yiffy of his own if shannon had survived lol (failchild with a poor imitation of the ushiromiya ideal supplanted on them abandoned by george when it becomes apparent a lot of his relationship with shannon is an illusory farce).
so much of homestuck's classpect stuff is rooted in the conflict of people emulating the aspects of those they look up to even when they shouldn't (rose's void-esque affinity motivated in part by her relationship with roxy, dirk acting knight-like to emulate his bro, the Rage influence over all the trolls and their aspirations) and i think you can apply that framework to george. the Life stuff is there and is shaping him but less in the sense that this is speaking to Who He Is than it actually is speaking to Who He Thinks He Should Be. my current reading of george is Space (also works as a fun contrast to my read of battler as a Time player) but even if that's not true i do think he's something else wrapped up in a Life player's clothing.

i like the classpect icons you use! i was wondering how you came up with them
ooo, good question! i had a lot of fun with them :]c
it took a decent amount of time for me to come up with some of them! a few were easy, like heir, witch, and knight- those two are derived from their cultural interpretations; heirs are royalty, so they wear crowns. knights have shields (which enable them to protect). witches have that sick as fuck hat. i mean like look at this
Tumblr media
damn cool hat.
others like the prince and bard came a little easier after establishing those three. since the prince is destructive, they don't *get* the power behind the crown, even if they have one on their costume. it's a participation trophy. hence why it's broken.
Tumblr media
some later inspiration came down the road for seer and mage. seer was originally designed to have 2 Xs and a dotted line, like a map, but i think the current design works better- it's a map full of aspect. and mage is a compass!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
rogue is derived directly from the rogue costume (though i came up with the idea before remembering that it existed LOL) and thief is like. well. you know how in cartoons bandits are always running away with huge bags of cash. its like that
Tumblr media Tumblr media
lord and muse differ from the other designs in that they're very much linked in a specific way! this is due to their association with eachother as master classes- lord and muse are THE paired classes. for lord, my first thought was somewhere between lord english's cane and doc scratch's head, so that's where that came from. as for muse, i chose a pencil because it represents a more literal definition of a muse; someone's inspiration, someone they write about or for.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the initial design process was finding symbols that are commonly recognizable (or at least recognizable enough), dumbing them down, and making them good to overlay symbols on. i think in terms of purely slapping aspects onto classes, my favorites are thief and page. just look at this shit man.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
fuck yes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
hell yes.
this was a process that definitely took a lot of time and iterations. i started this offline, so even after i designed all the symbols i still had to figure out how the hell to work krita. i did it, eventually, but MAN my little brain was overclocked trying to figure it out.
once the symbols themselves were designed, i spent a solid 2 days just slapping aspects down, putting the classes behind them, coloring the classes to match the aspect palettes, and then repeating the process. my first 2 sets were rage and light, and then i did the rest all in one day. (pro tip uhhh DON'T DO THAT if you value your free time. it took a while)
i think my favorite aspect to do was blood. it was my last one, so i had fun arranging the aspects and classes in a way that made sense and also looked cool as shit. i already showed you page of blood so i'll show you different examples
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
tysm for the ask! this was a lot of fun to answer. i might open a q&a now that i'm thinking about it... ;]c

classpect the vending machine SCP. Also, if you know Rain world, would it be too much to ask you what classpects you think Five Pebbles and Looks To The Moon would have? Without, uh, too much spoilers.
I was about to say 'it's literally just a Vending Machine' but I remembered it's actually sapient and snarky. Still I don't think there's like. ENOUGH of anything there to really Classpect... X3
RAIN WORLD THOUGH I LOVE RAIN WORLD.
Without going into much detail or spoilers, first of all there's a very real potential that Five Pebbles and Looks To The Moon could be, narratively within the framework of the game's story, be considered a Lord and a Muse, but I also do think this reading breaks down if you're considering the sheer scope of Rain World's Worldbuilding beyond what you're directly experiencing in the games. Basically if you just take the Slugcat's Journey into consideration, they COULD count, but I think beyond that you'd be hard-pressed to really give them that much importance (And in that Sense, there's definitely another Iterator that much better fits the role of a Muse for the entire overarching story).
But I digress. In my reckoning, Five Pebbles is most definitely Doombound. Not only because of his Actions and the results of Those Actions, but even his Goal. Once again, not to go too in-detail, but he's someone who's very obsessively trying to overcome certain limitations, who pushed things way too far. Class is more difficult. I am leaning Active for him just like I am Passive for Looks to the Moon, but... Maid could work. Attempting to be a Healer, a Creator of Doom, and some of his actions, could fit within this framework. There's also a 'Made of' pun that you could make him with his situation but, as mentioned, I'm trying to be as vague as possible here. X3
Looks to the Moon though. There's ways it could go... I want to say maybe Hope? It's very difficult but I think I may be pushing Hope a little bit, specially with her interactions with 5P and her own situation... And how things progress through the campaigns? Unsure, unsure. Class is even more difficult. She feels like a Very Passive figure to me, one more oriented to the things that Happen to her than the things that she Does. Maybe in that sense Void would work better than Hope. That doesn't answer the Class, though... Knight feels too proactive, Heir... Heir? Heir could be one, actually, specially with the idea of 'things happening to her', her current state could very much be a Bad 'Consumed by her Aspect' state... Familiar Rivulet... I think I like that. Heir of... Void? Heir of Hope? Heir of Breath or Blood perhaps even. Difficult but, I think the answer lies around there.
Can you tell I was writing this stuff as it popped to mind? Lmao. But yeah. Rainworld good- Pet a scug today.

Land of Wisdom and Folly: Sumeru and its overbearing Light.
Link to Kaveh: Maid of Space analysis
Link to Alhaitham: Seer of Light analysis
Link to Kavetham/Haikaveh analysis
Spoilers for Genshin up to the Sumeru chapter and for Homestuck as well! May include some of my personal headcanons for Alhaitham and Kaveh too.
Sumeru, within the land of Genshin it is known as the nation of Wisdom and Knowledge. It's renowned Sumeru Akademiya being a beacon for aspiring scholars to flock to. It's already so Light-coded, being associated with brilliance and the prominence that its students are granted brings attention.
Wisdom-seeking drives the scholars in the Akademiya, often do they gather wisdom in order to graduate from such a prestigious institution, allegedly driving themselves mad for its pursuit, echoing the role of the Mage.
Thus it can be concluded that in Sumeru, the people who live there are conditioned to take on the role of the Mage of Light.
Tumblr media
Mage: Active knowing class => One who learns their aspect or one who experiences their aspect; one who learns their aspect for themselves. Alternatively, one who suffers under their aspect.
Light: Abstract => Knowledge, awareness, fortune, luck. Literal: Actual light (Brightness), Vision
Now what do I mean that the people of Sumeru are linked to a certain classpect? Well to understand that claim, I must summarize another point that's made in Homestuck's sister media Hiveswap about classpects, specifically roleplaying.
In short, a facet Homestuck's universe is the trolls who have a caste system based on blood color, 12 colors each represented by the 12 zodiac signs. Beneath those "True Signs" are 23 other signs, two symbols for each of the twelve aspects.
Tumblr media
Each sign also has an associated aspect and two associated classes based off of the beta and alpha versions of the trolls that bear these symbols, so that any other trolls born under the blood castes have a role that they must strive (or are forced) to reach, regardless if it isn't the classpect they truly are. This is also known as roleplay.
optimisticDuelist's videos can explain this concept infinite times better than I can, so go check it out when you can!
youtube
So what does this exactly mean for those living in Sumeru?
Well, let's start with the obvious:
Its society emphasizes its archon's ideal, wisdom, and the importance of seeking it out, especially after the "death" of Greater Lord Rhukkatevata as she's no longer there to guide her nation. She leaves her successor in her reincarnation Nahida, who is then detained and locked up due to her not having any traces of the previous archon in her.
Tumblr media
Afterwards, Sumeru and its Akademiya continues to grow into the institute that's notoriously hard to graduate from. Many have claimed that its more than difficult work to earn a degree from there, many have became "Raving mad scholars" while pursuing their research; suffering for knowledge so to say.
Two students currently studying in the Akademiya claim that they'll be old by the time they graduates, another one says that even the top student worries if she's going to graduate at all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lisa is one such person who managed to graduate the Akademiya in just two years, but left Sumeru because of not only the grind-like culture it sustains, but also due to what she had witnessed during her time studying: an uncontrollable desire for the hunt for knowledge.
Tumblr media
This "uninhibited erudition" can be translated into Homestuck terms as "a selfish desire to know", which is what drives the scholars to keep studying at the Akademiya. This sentiment reaches farther though as this was the motive that drove the Sages, Sumeru's government, to create a god to replace Nahida through obtaining Divine (Forbidden) knowledge. They didn't believe that their current archon couldn't lead them into another golden age like her predecessor once did, so they created a mechanical one using all the wisdom they had at their disposal.
Tumblr media
So Sumeru's governing body peruses knowledge for their own sake and thus encourages it within the Akademiya, which in turn forces their students to study and grind away for their subject of study for years, making them suffer for knowledge in order to obtain it. It echoes the arc of a Mage of Light almost perfectly.
So what does this all mean if everyone who studies in Sumeru Akademiya become Mages of Light?
That is not how classpects work, one cannot attain a different Aspect or Class or both. Yes it is possible to take on or emulate other roles, but one cannot adopt just a different persona or change who they are are at their core. It doesn't feel natural having to cover your true self under a mask most of the time.
Forcing a role upon someone that is not their own can lead a person becoming confused and conflicted with themselves and with their place in the world around them.
So how can someone end up in such a predicament? As explained above omeone could play a different role other than their own if their surroundings demand it, or alternatively: if they're unsatisfied with the role they already have.
And what two characters exhibit this system of roleplay perfectly than Kaveh and Alhaitham.
Tumblr media
Kaveh and Alhaitham are a Maid of Space and a Seer of Light respectively. Both live in Sumeru and as a consequence of that they have hues of Light and shades of Mage colored in their roles.
Let's start with Kaveh first, as he has some of the most obvious Light imagery out of the two. Kaveh naturally is Space-bound yet he takes on the role of Maid of Light when he's out in public.
Though it does give him fame, Kaveh doesn't seem to really care for his status as Sumeru's most famous architect and instead likes to focus on the skills as an architect, specifically the facets that involve design and aesthetics.
Tumblr media
Though try as he might to stay true to himself, there's no escaping the Light that Sumeru forces upon its inhabitants. I explain a little bit of it here, but I'll extrapolate what it means for Kaveh to act like a Maid of Light.
In order to survive and thrive in Sumeru's society, one must commit themselves into studying and pursuing knowledge, with attention being a byproduct of it. Kaveh is no different from the students that came before or will come after him as he, like them, had to grind his way through the Akademiya in order to achieve his dream of being an architect. There may have been some compromises that had to be made in the process, such as Kaveh needing to emphasize more on the numbers and math of an architect rather than the creative side of it since the arts are less valued in Sumeru: preferring Light over Space one could say.
There's also the fact that Kaveh teaches an elective at the Akademiya, aiding others in their study by providing them with knowledge of his trade.
Tumblr media
Light also blinds people, warping their perception of what's in front of them. Kaveh's public image is perceived more as a brilliant genius rather than an artist. His title of "Light of Kshahrewar" was bestowed upon him by the Akademiya and gained notoriety from others because of it due to being a brilliant alumnus from his Darshan. It makes him some sort of figure to look up to for his fellow Kshahrewar.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note how she thinks that Kaveh has made himself a title in the world as both fame and fortune are related to Light.
This forces him into a position that he must uphold in order to maintain a positive image for not only himself, but his darshan too, especially since it's gained a bad reputation over the last 400 years due to a specific doctor...
Tumblr media
Let's continue on with Alhaitham, the Seer of Light.
Due to being Light-bound and the passive version of a Mage, Alhaitham has little trouble fitting in with his society. Yet unlike Kaveh, he has to take on many different roles
In his analysis, I point out that Alhaitham can easily change between classpects when the situation calls for it.
He has taken on 3 different classpects thus far:
The Aforementioned Mage of Light, the Knight of Light and the Mage of Void (the last two classpects I associate with King Deshret as well ;] ).
He showcases all three in the Archon Quest as well as his own Story quest.
In both instances, Alhaitham was able to uncover a plan that was void in the public's eyes, and after bring it to light was he able to plan and act on it, using what he has understood through his findings to protect either his current lifestyle or his country.
When pushed into a crisis scenario, Alhaitham will turn from a passive character into an active one despite claiming over and over again that he'd rather say back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's as if he doesn't really have a choice in the matter as he might just be the only one who can pull off certain parts of a plan that others might not be able to execute perfectly.
Tumblr media
Especially during this Oscar-winning performance where Alhaitham has to pretend to be anguished from obtaining Divine knowelge. He has to act as if he's gone mad so that the Grand Sage would take the bait and divert their attention towards him, creating a distraction for the others to free Nahida.
In other words: Alhaitham has to roleplay as a Mage of Light to successfully pull off their plan.
Tumblr media
It goes further though as Alhaitham does become the Acting Grand Sage after saving Nahida, which is the equivalent to being the Ultimate Mage of Light. Alhaitham already wants to quit since it's too much work for him but can't for there hasn't been a replacement for him as I'm writing this and because he's the only one suitable for the job. So for now, he's still got to keep up performing that role until a replacement is found and would allow him to quit.
Tumblr media
I have mentioned earlier that those who emulate a classpect different from their own for too long tend to become unhappy with themselves and with their position in the environment they're in.
So are Kaveh and Alhaitham unhappy with their current lives in Sumeru?
Alhaitham would rather just relax and do his easy Scribing job forever instead of being the Acting Grand Sage, and Kaveh is far from living the life he'd prefer to be living...
But no, I don't belive that either of them are dissatisfied with the lives they are living right now.
And it has to do with their presence and impact that they have on each other's lives.
Tumblr media
Aaaaaaaand that’s that for my Sumeru analysis and the 3rd part of a bigger series where a certain ship may or may not be the nexus of a theory I have in mind-

can i get a Bard of Rage analysis pleaseee? with a land/quest too if possible
The Bard of Rage [symbols: jester hat, tragedy mask]
The Bard class has its basis in the classic trickster trope.  An example would be the Shakespearean fool.
The Rage aspect’s main theme is defiance. You can find its official description here.
A Bard of Rage is among those who alter faith in possibility. This is the “classpect group” they belong to. Members include: the Sylph, Maid, Bard, and Prince of Hope/Rage. These classes are all opposites or inverses of each other that alter the Hope/Rage dichotomy (faith in possibility). A description of classpect groupings can be found here.
The Bard of Rage passively destroys the Rage aspect. Passive classes are guided by others or act for the benefit of others. They are more likely to be kind, but less likely to stand up for themselves. Princes and Bards destroy their aspect and everything it symbolizes, while using that same aspect as a weapon. In doing so, they leave their opposite aspect in their wake. Due to their actions, they come across as their opposite aspect. Simplified, the Bard of Rage is motivated by others to destroy defiance. In personality, they start out as the Hope aspect, seemingly defined by assurance.
On the subject of personality, the Bard of Rage gets angry when things don’t go their way and hates complacency. Personality descriptions can be found here.
Their archetype is the True Revolutionary, defined by outrage and defiance. Archetypes are explained here.
Their opposite is the Prince of Hope, who actively destroys assurance.
Their inverse is the Maid of Hope, who actively assists assurance.
A classpect or “god tier” is an individual’s best self. All classpects go through a journey from unrealized, to struggle, to realized. When a character is unrealized, they neutrally exist as their inverse. On their struggle, they will wildly flip back and forth between their inverse and true classpect. In their worst moments they will act as their inverse, in their best their true classpect. When realized, they will stabilize as their true classpect. They will still have room to grow, but will become happier, more successful people.
This means that the Bard of Rage begins life motivated by themselves to assist assurance. When their struggle arrives and they are at their worst, they will continue this behavior in negative extremes. However, when at their best, they will find purpose in instead destroying defiance for others. When realized, they will stabilize and continue to destroy the Rage aspect passively, in a positive way.
They share their archetype with no one, being the truest representation of their type.
The Bard of Rage would quest on a planet similar to the Land of Hope [Opposite Aspect] and Rage [Aspect]. An example would be the Land of Laughter and Blockades. An explanation of planet naming conventions can be found here.
As for the quest the Bard of Rage must go on, perhaps the denizen of their planet has erected walls throughout the land that prevent the consorts from going about their daily lives. Instead of attempting to remedy the situation, the consorts have focused all their efforts on remaining positive at all costs. They are throwing parties and having group therapy sessions while their resources slowly dwindle. It is up to the Bard of Rage to give up their own complacency and become a force of revolution, working with the consorts to tear down the barriers holding them hostage.
A possible god, or denizen, to reign over their planet would be Ares (God of War). Other Rage aspect denizens can be found here.
When the Bard of Rage completes their planet quests and dies on their quest bed, they would rise to ascension on the wings of imps (symbols of the devil). A list of soul animals can be found here.
The characters that I have currently classpected as Bards of Rage are: Gamzee Makara from Homestuck [canon example], a Rage Demon from Dragon Age, Lucifer from Christianity, Attila the Hun from Night at the Museum, and Juggernaut from X-Men.
If any of the links not connected to my blog break, the content can be found on my Google Drive.

Ik classpect roasts are closed but do you do classpect analysis, if so a witch of hope and would a witch of hope be able to white magic it up to summon illusions of her enemy's imagination to become real
I do! These will be rare because they take more time but I looooove classpecting in general
WITCH OF HOPE
One who actively manipulates hope, faith, and choices
Basically, scary as fuck.
Witches of hope give off an extremly supportive energy, where they will have faith in whatever you need them to.
However, this also can lead to toxic positivity where they won’t let you back down, almost pressuring you down your current path without actively realizing. They’re desperately trying to make everything turn out to the optimal ending that everyone needs, but they can go overboard controlling everything and possibly hurting people in the process. They just want everyone to be okay, but that sentiment can get twisted easily.
They would be a very big asset to the team, if they drop everyone will too. A god tiered which of hope could even possibly stop a timeline from being doomed with sheer hope and faith.
They would be the ultimate support, while also technically working on offense by lowering the hope within enemies. They could absolutely will things into existence, that being an ally or an illusion to throw their enemy off balance.

Not to be a toxic skk shipper on main but PLEASEEE EXPLAIN THE SKK CLASSPECTS IM BEGGING
sure thing! :D I'm on mobile so it may not be the most organized thing tho hehe sorry.
so lemme start with the aspects:
from the start i knew dazai had to be void. i think the emptiness that doesn't leave him is a defining thing abt him, and i think his current self would be happy to utilize it to help, somehow, if he could. void is also about secrets and hidden information, mystery and uncertainty, which dazai is quite full of, I'd say, both inside and out. he seems to be comfortable in that element tbh
chuuya's aspect was smth i considered for a bit; the other options i thought of were rage (bc that's quite literally how arahabaki works, chaos and destruction) or time, an aspect that means you're gonna witness a looooot of death and lose most people close to you. which. well. *motions towards sb*
however!!!! i went with blood, bc it's all about bonds, unity, pacts, and i think this is a big defining thing about chuuya - his loyalty, and his need for bonds and friendship. i think going by his personality and motivations is better than going by his powers (bc that's kinda boring) or backstory (bc that's soooo sad)
now, onto classes:
this time let's start with chuuya bc we're on a roll.
"A Heir is one who Changes/Manipulates their Aspect and through their Aspect. Also, may become their Aspect."
an heir of blood doesn't directly manipulate the people they have a bond with, rather inspiring them and leading them (which, as we've seen during cannibalism, chuuya can definitely do. also he wouldn't become an executive with people in his charge if he couldn't do this lol). in turn, they will become stronger from their bonds and feel more secure when they have people to rely on, which, given how chuuya stayed with the mafia all this time, i think it's safe to say that's the case with him hehe.
ok now it's dazai time
to put it simply. a seer sees the future lol (or rather, will invite knowledge, to put it more fancily). but it's through their aspect, somehow - for example, in the original comic, rose sees the best course of action to take (as her aspect is all about luck), and terezi sees all possible outcomes to a situation (and her aspect is about thoughts and decisions)
so, a seer of void will have knowledge of secrets and mysteries, and things others may not be aware of or want to bring to light. i think this is perfect for dazai tbh, and how he gets info in shady ways or figures things out due to his dark past
unlike other seers, a seer of void would do better with not knowing all the details, which, given how s5e11 went, it seems dazai is relatively comfortable with in his current state.
at the same time, a seer of void will not be satisfied with what they're told is the truth, and may be distrustful and try to figure out what's really going on (see: dazai's suspicion of ango during the dark era). in addition, they will have their own view of the world which. not to get into analysis through nlh and comparisons to yozo. BUT- *i get pulled off the stage by a large hooked cane*
also lemme copy a thing from a post i found and used as reference rn. "If the Seer of Void is not careful, they could become cynical and pessimistic - apathetic and dismissive." hmmm reminds me of the younger self of a certain someone (tbh this one's true abt all void players lol). also "They wouldn’t allow themself to remain under the oppressive boot of a leader, especially a leader who thinks they know what is best for the Seer of Void" HMMM REMINDS ME OF THE CONCLUSION TO A CERTAIN BACKSTORY LIGHT NOVEL
bonus for how that works for them as a team, so we can sort of get into the shipping part too:
so, a seer of void will be the planner. obviously. they will notice if something is Off about the situation, and figure out a way to get out of it if needed. they won't have a problem relying on their teammate(s), and these are great news when their teammate is an heir of blood who will bring out the best of that bond between them! heirs are particularly powerful, so being backed by a good planner who will cover their blind spots will make them a powerful duo 😌
hope you enjoyed and that this wasn't complete gibberish! 🫡 i am no expert in classpecting so this may not be the most accurate take ever but i did my best ✨️

OH i have a question for you so do you think that the alpha trolls' classpects are relevant to the ancestors or do you think it doesnt matter cuz theyre different people? Like i cant see the disciple being all that much of a mage of heart. But it does explain condys powers and all the signless stuff and it would be more consistent with how homestuck usually works.
disclaimer i don't know a lot abt classpects but YES i think they are. and i see di as just as mage of heart-y as meulin? like again i don't know a lot abt classpects but di def suffered for who she was and lost her family and purpose but also mages deal with information right could that be like her transcribing the signless' words?
okay so yeah condesce and signless are probably mosr obviously linked to their pre-scratch classpects. i don't know where else to put this but darkleer also had the dark spot/natural void cloaking trait as like a lataent ability or whatever which is just aspect no class but there isn't much else to say abt him so here's his sentence.
but there's this interesting thing in the ancestor exposition where the ancestors are described w their descendants' classes. handMAID, the psiioniic is called a mage, redglare a seer (by mindfang), i'll get to mindfang in a sec, and witch is often used to describe the condesce
sorry this is so janky hoppiung from one ide a to another but. okay so the alpha trolls just failed right. they were a massive flopp. like there was no way they could have won anyway bc there was a glitch (they were made in the post-scratch iteration of the univese by karkat so technically they can't exist without him so the scratch was destiened to happen yadda yadda) but also they failed in other ways and when they made the deal w echidna they were promised success in the next universe.
doc scratch is the one in charge of facilitating the conditions of the world to ensure that success. LE is also invested bc the trolls winning the game has to happen to ensure his creation. you might be thinking well handmaid was too and yeah she was but doc scratch was the weapon of precision and subtlety.
so if the alpha trolls are now no longer in the runnign for game victory, it's aaaall abt the beta trolls now. you don't need a "sylph of light" 🤪 anymore. you need a thief. i think this is the most obvious example bc doc scratch was so involved in mindfang's life and helped her to get to where she was as a pirate, literally embodying the life and role of a thief 👍 and then she served as the role model for vriska who tried to be juuust like her
so handmaid was obviously made by doc scratch to serve (the lord of her aspect), the helmsman played out the role of of an heir of doom actually i think. it just wasn't all that important, disciple literally became a rogue, i literally don't understand the page where mindfang calls redglare a seer sorry, actually maybe the re is more to say abt darkleer but it's just speculation (isn't this all speculation) (anyways i think mindfang killed him and used his body for its void properties "becoming" his aspect like an heir or something i don't actually know)
there's not much in the way of classpect for summoner (could make arguments for both rogue and page), dolorosa, and dualscar in canon or at least not much that's worth pointing out
uh,m yeah sorry that was so disjointed but tl;dr yes i think that the ancestors share their pre-scratch counterparts' classpects but i also think doc scratch muddied it for some of them where it was important. which is why you have midnfang who is not very sylph-like but also signless bc it was important that he remember his past life as a seer and still be a seer to incorporate all that knowledge into his current one

Okay, okay, Classpecting mode entered-
So I fucking love how they’re Archetypes- like it’s arguable that if your character plays their version of Sburb as written, they’ll go through a very barebones heroes journey and walk out different but in a very… Cookie Cutter Arc. Anyway, new way of describing Classes dropped into my brain.
Page Arc: I chose Page first because theirs is almost bluntly stated. They’re the underdogs that need to rise up to the challenges the world throws at them.
Heirs: Okay so if Page’s are the Zero To Hero archetype, Heirs are the closer to Superheroes- specifically like… A Peter Parker type. They have all the powers they need from book one, they can use them subconsciously but need to figure out how to actually wield it. (Outside of the direct quest… That’s kinda just John anyway. She’s kinda just walks ass backwards into doing what needs to happen half the time- that’s not a bag on them I just noticed it when they got retcon powers.)
Seer: … Seers are interesting. They’re not active wielders of their aspect, they use what’s already there to their advantage. Like, Terezi doesn’t control others thoughts, she just takes what she does know and uses it to make plans and decisions. Arguably that combined with ‘play the rain’ as Rose’s quest suggests a Seer’s arc is… Learning that what you have is enough and working with it.
Which is hilarious when it comes to my personal Blorbo- Kankri is ignoring the shit out of the arc Sgrub 2 tries to put on him Godbless… I think the most solid versions of this arc are ‘be careful what you wish for’ stories and ‘it’s a wonderful life’ type deals…
Theif: My biggest take is that a thief’s arc is a classic want vs need arc. Like okay, Vriska is a treasure hunter, her planet? Full of treasure to steal all the time forever… I also don’t think the treasure’s worth anything. I don’t think it’s even mentioned. A thief’s planet is abundant yet dull, reminding them that all the stuff seems cool at first but they really need personal connections. Weirdly I think Meenah and Vriska found that out mostly but their personal connections were… Engaging in harassment and bullying.
Anyway we barely know Jack about shit about the other arcs- shit Thief was me making a leap just based on lack of info. But also also I don’t have the current stamina to look at the others rn… Part 2 possible but feel free to make notes
