The Mummy Pt 3 (Hakuno, Gilgamesh, Enkidu, Kirei)
Previously: One , Two
___
“Enkidu!”
The being jumped a bit, picking up the pace as they pulled her along.
Countless prisoners were being escorted here and there. They could see guards butting the various filthy inmates with the end of the weapons. They could see several inmates making obscene gestures, motioning for them to come closer. Hell, Hakuno could see a couple that she was pretty sure she would rather not be in a room alone with.
“Enkidu,” Hakuno picked up her pace, matching theirs better. “You told me you got the keystone in a gamble!”
“I was mistaken.”
“You lied to me!”
“I lie to everyone, Hakuno. What makes you so special?”
She threw a look the being’s way, wishing her gaze could be as effective as half the whips and torture methods in this place.
“Look, we can turn around right now. There’s a dessert place three blocks away and we could look at the River Nile and-“
“I’m standing in a prison, Enkidu!”
“You are! And I know our parents would faint on the spot if they saw this so why don’t we just turn around and-“
“Welcome,” the man before them declared, throwing up his arms as he came forward. “Welcome to Cairo Prison.”
“Thank you for having us.”
The response came automatically, although there was a chill creeping down her spine at the sight of the rather tall individual. His priest robes were dark, showing signs of former stains that had been washed out only a part of the way through multiple baths. The cross around his neck was silver, all but at the bottom, where there seemed to be something crimson gleaming off it.
Had the man begun to brandish a knife at them, she would have felt less surprised.
Enkidu takes me to the worst places.
“He is this way,” the priest told her, motioning off to the side.
“Hakuno,” Enkidu murmured.
“It’s fine. We need to talk to this fellow, don’t we?”
They did. The being knew full well that they had failed to talk to the man about where they had gotten the keystone and Hamunaptra was not going to find itself. Well, not without someone being smart.
“Please,” Hakuno told the man, pulling Enkidu alongside her.
The sun was shining in, showing off the puddles and the mud as they came to a clearing. Several outdoor holding cells could be seen, showing off various states of prisoners. The trimming and the detail of the area and the filth and the decay inside the cages showed a level of attention and neglect on the part of the country.
Prisons were uncomfortable.
“Here,” the priest told them, motioning to an empty cage.
“Hakuno,” Enkidu whined again.
Jeez, but the being was being so insistent!
“What is this man in for?” Hakuno asked, pulling the being along with her the rest of the distance.
“I admittedly did not know this myself,” the priest told him. “As a warden, my job is to see they live through their time here. Repent and reform. But when I heard you were coming, I met with him in the morning and asked him myself.”
“And?”
A man was thrown through the iron door on the other side of the holding cage, his long, blond hair falling into his face. His lips were cut and his face and body were littered with mud and grime.
“He was just looking to have a good time,” the priest murmured to her. His voice seemed to fill such a sentence with so many definitions of a good time. She couldn’t help but to pull her coat around herself a little more, fixing her hair.
“S-so you stole from this man?” Hakuno whispered to Enkidu.
“Yes,” Enkidu groaned, “I stole from this guy and I punched him in the teeth. Now about that cake-“
“Who are you?”
The being jumped at the sound of that voice, glancing over their shoulder as Blondie finally looked up. Locusts, plagues, curses, fire; she could have more easily have handled any of them in comparison to the feeling of those red eyes running over her and her adopted brother. A cold, creeping feeling went through her, seeing those eyes pass over her person and focus on the being.
“And who’s the lay,” the man added.
Lay?
Scary or not, the words were sobering. Hakuno moved in front of Enkidu only to find the being tossing her behind them.
“We’re ah- missionaries! Kind of a good will, gods be with you, kind of thin-“
The priest snorted, leaving her to smack the fool.
“Damn it, Enkidu!”
“Ah, this is my sister and platonic love of my life, Hakuno-“
She smacked them a few more times, finding the priest going to resolve another problem while they bickered.
They needed the man’s directions to the one who had found the keystone. They didn’t have time for this nonsense.
“Sir, we came across your nice jewelry box the other day.” She moved a bit closer, trying to keep herself cool. “And we were hoping you could tell us from where you picked it up.”
“No.”
No?
What did he mean no?
Gods, if he knew it was a keystone-
“No?” Enkidu leaned over her a little.
“No,” Blondie repeated, shaking his head again. “You don’t want to know about some jewelry box. You want to know about Hamunaptra.”
She gaped. The being holding her shoulders made a sound, moving closer.
“So you know?”
“I better know. That was where I got the damn box I brought back,” he growled. The moment he said that, he narrowed his eyes, staring at Enkidu. “…Do I know you?”
“Nah, nah! I just have one of those faces. A handsome one, you know?”
The fist came immediately, smacking the being right dead center. Hakuno watched them fall back, going to help when they were already smack dab against the ground. Blondie was being whipped from behind as she closed her eyes.
Well…
That’s what one got for lying and stealing.
She stepped over them and pulled her hat off a little.
“So you’ve been to Hamunaptra?”
“I have.”
She moved a little closer to the bars.
He knew?
“Could you tell me?”
“You want to know where Hamunaptra is?”
“The exact location.”
The man smirked, motioning her closer.
Something told her to stop. Something in her was saying not to move any closer, but… she had to know. This was her one opportunity. This was her chance to get back at the scholars and at Shinji. She could have her museum work and do all kinds of excavations. She could have the chance to do more.
Hakuno moved a bit closer.
He crooked his finger her way.
She was right by the bars, holding her hat to block out the sun and the eyes of the priest.
A hand grabbed the back of her neck. She could feel herself being yanked in, dragged directly to where those lips were. Her lips were moving against Blondie’s, her face heating up as she felt a tongue slide along her lip for a moment before delving into her mouth. She could taste warmth and spices, sweetness and-
“If you want directions, get me the fuck out of here,” the man snarled.
The guards were yanking and hitting him, pulling him from the area. The priest returned, pressing a hand to her shoulder.
“God is truly blessing us today. We will get to see Gilgamesh hang.”
HANG?!
“YOU CAN’T HANG HIM!”
Hakuno spun around, listening to the priest raise his hands and call forth for the courtyard nearby to be prepared for the hanging.
Hakuno-“
But she wasn’t listening to Enkidu’s voice calling for her. She chased after the priest, shoving her way around the guards and rushing to the other courtyard. Her hands beat back any of the guards and the people, one of her shoes being yanked off to thwart them away.
Heels were useful for something other than a couple inches.
Blondie- No, Gilgamesh- was pulled into the courtyard below. She could see him as the priest motioned for the others to simply block her means of getting to the courtyard.
“He has had his good time,” the man told her.
“I need him!”
The priest said a small prayer, blessing her with the forgiveness of god for her indecency.
Damn it! Not like that! I need his mind!
“I will pay you one hundred pounds if you release him!”
“I would pay one thousand pounds to see this man hang,” the priest told her, laughing a bit as he confessed that.
This is the worst warden I’ve ever seen.
“Two thousand pounds,” she countered.
“Hold!” the priest called, stopping the guards that were preparing to pull the lever on the blond. “What else? The house of god is in need of many repairs with these heathenistic artifacts constantly found.”
“How dare you! Those are priceless treasures-“
The priest’s hand fell, leaving Hakuno to cry out as the floor went out from under the blond.
His body fell, with it going her heart and very soul. She could see him hanging, his neck taut as the rope threatened to snap that precious mind and spirit from its body.
“It seems we must endure God punishing the man a bit longer. The fool will need to strangle to death.”
“Cut him down,” Hakuno breathed, her hands going to her own neck as she saw the man shift, attempting to free himself from the grips of death. His face was turning red. He was attempting to move his jaw.
He needed air!
“Please!”
“It is in God’s hands.”
“He knows the way to Hamunaptra!”
The man stilled. “…The city of the dead? The foolish place where the pharaohs kept their precious wealth and prayed to their gods most? The place untouched by our faith?”
“Yes,” although she was going to ignore the religious bits. “And if you take us… we’ll give you ten percent.”
“Fifty.”
“Twenty!”
“Fourty percent.”
“Thirty!”
“Twenty five.”
“DEAL!”
The man waved for the rope to be cut, pausing a second later.
“…You have swindled a man of God-“
“Good day, Father.” Hakuno tossed her shoe in the air, grinning a little as she glanced down into the courtyard. She gave it a little wave as she found her freed prisoner looking up her way.
She hadn’t had the two thousand pounds anyway. She was a broke museum worker.
Thankfully, she just needed to avoid the church. Not a problem.
Her blond friend was still staring as she turned and walked through the lot of guards.
Enkidu was waiting to take her to a dessert shop only a few blocks away and she was finding she was in dire need of a reward for her quick thinking and sheer brilliance.
“Oh, Miss?”
The priest was following after her.
“Someone must find the man a place for the night. He is without possessions.”
Enkidu was still rubbing her nose as Hakuno glanced back.
“Thankfully,” she told the priest, “my brother and our dear friend are the best of friends. I have no doubt that they’ll be helping one another out of this place.”
Enkidu glared at her.
“…Tell me you love me, Enkidu,” she whispered, earning a sigh.
“I truly do, you tease,” the being murmured, pressing a kiss and pushing her towards the exit before going to deal with their hired guide.
“Good. We leave tomorrow morning.”

⁂ Falling Harder (Shinji Ibu)
Tumblr media
Genre: Friendship, Slice of Life, Fluff, Comedy ☁
Word Count: 3,520 ☁
Pairing: Reader x Shinji ☁
World: Prince of Tennis ☁
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
“Hurry up you two!” Momoshiro called from up ahead. He was making you come along to the street tennis courts with him, even though you and Ryoma didn’t want to go.
“Shut up, Momo!” You both chorused back.
He rolled his eyes and ran up the stairs with the two of you a few minutes behind.
When you finally climbed the stairs, you found Hajime Mizuki, Shinji Ibu, Akira Kamio, and Yuuta Fuji there. They were having a doubles match; Mizuki and Yuuta vs. Shinji and Kamio. You and Momo sat on the bench and watched the match while Ryoma leaned against a tree.
The match ended with Shinji and Kamio as the winners, and the four of them walked over. Kamio glared at Momo, “What are you doing here?”
“An invited us,” he glared back.
“She invited you, not us.” You pointed to yourself and then to Ryoma.
Ryoma nodded, “You made us come.”
“I don’t mind you two,” Kamio muttered.
“What?!” Momo yelled, jumping up and pointing an accusing finger at him, “What makes them so special!?”
The two of them started to argue back and forth, first about An and spiraling into random events that happened before they even met.
Mizuki grabbed your arm, sitting down on your right, “Do they always do this?”
“Yup,” you quipped, watching the two yelling at each other.
“They’re being too loud,” Shinji muttered quietly, nearly making you jump; you hadn’t even noticed him sitting there.
You glanced at him, “That’s nothing new either. Those two only have two settings – loud and louder.”
“Like you’re better than I am!?” Momo screamed, getting into Kamio’s face.
“You’re damn right I am!” Akira screamed back.
The sound of giggling broke your attention away from their bickering and you turned around to see a girl about the same size as Ryoma. She had deep green hair and blue eyes. She was giggling and staring at Shinji who tensed as soon as he saw her.
“Hii~ Shinji!” she giggled again, holding her folded hands to her chest.
“Hello,” he answered, his voice emotionless as he turned back around, giving the two quarreling boys his full attention.
The girl smiled and ran over, sitting next to him, much closer than she should have. In response, Shinji moved closer to you, trying to escape the girl as she scooted closer and closer until she was practically in his lap.
He closed his eyes as she grabbed his arm, hugging it tightly to her chest.
“I didn’t know you swung that way.” Mizuki chuckled.
Shinji didn’t even acknowledge him, so you hit Mizuki in the back of the head in his place.
“What was that for?!” he cried in surprise, glaring at you. “Why do you have to be so mean?”
“Don’t be a jerk, Hajime.” you hissed.
He scowled at the use of his first name and Yuuta chuckled from beside him.
“What are you up to this weekend, Shinji baby?” the small girl giggled.
He shook slightly, his eyes staying closed. A couple minutes later, he lifted his free arm and put it around your shoulder, pulling you closer to his side. “I’ll be spending it with my partner.”
You raised an eyebrow in question but said nothing. Mizuki jumped up and sent you an accusing glare, “When the hell did that happen?”
Both Akira and Momo stopped yelling at each other, having been drowned out by Mizuki’s outcry. Putting on a fake smile, you stomped on his foot before sending him a warning look, telling him to shut his trap. He scowled again, plopping back down onto the bench and rubbing his sore foot.
“You never said anything about dating Y/N.” Akira murmured to Shinji, sending him a suspicious look.
“Neither have you,” Momo stared at you with the same look.
The small girl removed herself from beside him to stand in front of the group, her eyes watering, “I t-thought we had s-something s-s-special!” And with that dramatic act, she ran away.
Shinji made no movement as his eyes slowly slid open. Everyone stood around the two of you, waiting for some sort of answer. Silence settled over the group before he finally spoke up, removing his arm and putting some distance between the two of you.
“She has been stalking me for two months,” he muttered, so soft that the other boys had to lean closer to hear him properly. “She does this every time I try to tell her there is nothing between us. She always comes back.”
“I get it,” Yuuta snapped his fingers. “You told her that Y/N was your partner in hopes that she’d leave you alone.”
Shinji slowly nodded, “Sorry.”
“It’s fine, I understand.” you offered him a smile.
“I won’t allow it!” Mizuki jumped up, stomping his foot on the ground much like a child would. “I won’t allow my little sibling to be used like this.”
You rolled your eyes and stood, kicking Mizuki hard in the face with the bottom of your sneaker. “Will you shut up, I’m not even related to you.”
He twitched slightly before stepping backward, holding his nose. “How can you be okay with this? He’s using you!”
“It’s not even a big deal,” you responded, smacking his hands away when he tried to grab you. “It’s not like it’s real or anything.”
He blinked a few times before sighing, “Fine. But I’m not happy about this!”
You rolled your eyes as he stomped his foot again and then you sat back down next to Shinji who hadn’t moved an inch. You took his hand and held it in both of your own, “Don’t worry, Shinji. I’ll play along.”
He blinked slowly, his navy eyes set on your hands. “Thank you.”
You nodded, “Happy to be able to help!”
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
It’s been about a month and a half since you became Shinji’s partner. Honestly, it wasn’t as much work as you thought it would have been. You hung out with each other like you normally did, with the exception of holding hands and hugging, and you were spending a lot more time with Fudomine, as well. Mizuki and Momo liked to tag along, both for different reasons; Momo had nothing better to do and Mizuki was being an idiot. Even Ryoma came quite a few times, as well. Against his will, of course, but that’s just minor details.
The little girl, who you soon found out went by the name Gracie, had started to come around less and less, instead choosing to hide in the shadows, going after Shinji when you weren’t around. Apparently, she hated and felt threatened by you all at the same time.
You were sitting inside the burger joint with Shinji at your side, hand clasped within your own. Ryoma sat to your right, stuffing his face while simultaneously glaring at Momo who was glaring back and also stuffing his face. Eiji was trying to contain his laughter as he watched the two of them. Eiji, Shinji, and yourself had already finished eating and were just waiting on the two boys to finish their eating contest. Honestly, though, it didn’t look like there was an end in sight anytime soon.
Your phone started to vibrate in your pocket so you stood up and stretched before bringing it to your ear, “Yeah?”
“Hey, Y/N-chan.” It was Taka.
You smiled at the group before excusing yourself to walk outside where you leaned against the brick wall of the building, “What’s up, Taka?”
“Oishi asked me to call you,” he answered softly.
“What’s he got planned now?”
“Bowling,”
“Please tell me Inui isn’t going!”
“He is,”
You sighed deeply, knowing what was in store. “Can I at least bring some friends with me?”
“Of course you can. Will you let Momoshiro, Eiji and Echizen know, please?”
You could hear the smile in his voice before the line went dead. Taking a deep breath, you walked back inside and stopped beside the table, giving Eiji a look.
He cocked his head to the side, curious. “Who was that?”
“Taka,”
“What’d he want?”
“Oishi asked him to call me.” You sighed deeply. “He asked me to inform your guys… we’re going bowling again.”
“No!” Eiji cried, letting his head fall onto the table. “I don’t wanna!”
You patted him on the back, “The good news is that Inui’s going to have more victims. I’m inviting Mizuki, Shinya, and Yuuta.”
“Well, at least we won’t be suffering alone… right?” He pouted at you, trying to look less traumatized.
“Hey, Shinji. Invite Kamio, too.” Momo muttered through a mouthful of food.
“Shinji isn’t going,” you declared, folding your arms over your chest.
The bluenette looked at you with a mostly blank face, his navy eyes lit up with curiosity. He didn’t voice this, though.
“Eh? But you have to bring him along!” Eiji protested.
Ryoma swallowed his food, took a sip of his drink, and stared up at you. “If you leave him alone too long, senpai, that girl will probably take advantage.”
Your eye twitched, ‘Damn that brat, he has a good point!’ With a frustrated sigh, you said, “Fine, but bring Tetsu with you!”
Shinji slowly nodded.
“Maybe this won’t be so bad, after all!” Eiji chirped, offering the group a grin.
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
“Will you hurry up?” Mizuki sighed as the group walked down the street.
You muttered incoherently under your breath, walking very slowly behind the two boys.
“Hey, guys!” Yuuta waved before crossing the street. “What’s wrong with Y/N?”
Shinya chuckled, covering his mouth. “Y/N’s not much of a morning person,”
You scoffed, leaning on Shinya when he put your arm around his shoulder to help support your slouching frame. “We weren’t even supposed to leave yet. This fool woke me up too early!”
“There’s no harm in being there early.” Mizuki glared at you over his shoulder before huffing.
“No harm my left buttcheek,” you muttered darkly, glaring daggers at the male’s back.
“Why your left cheek?” Shinya wondered, making you shrug.
“You’re so weird,” Yuuta shook his head.
When your group finally arrived at the bowling alley, it was about 8:45 in the morning. Oishi, Eiji, Kaidoh, Inui, Tetsu, Shinji, coach Ryuzaki, and Kamio had already arrived. You pulled away from Shinya and sat down against the side of the building.
Once everyone had arrived – a large group of students from several different schools -, the group filed inside and got ready to bowl. You weren’t sure how, but coach Ryuzaki was able to book the entire building for the event, meaning there were no other people to interrupt.
“Alright everyone, listen up.” Coach Ryuzaki called out and the room slowly quieted down.
Oishi stood beside her with Inui on his other side. “Here’s the deal. You’ll be put into teams of two. If you drop out, refuse to play or get a gutterball, you’ll be drinking a shot of Inui’s Aozu drink.”
Inui grinned evily, holding up a small shot glass full of thick blue-green liquid. The Seigaku team shifted uncomfortably.
“If you lose, you drink an entire pitcher.” Inui held up the pitcher and Seigaku took a step back, leaving the others looking around confused. “If you win, you will not be required to drink Aozu.”
You moved to stand next to Fuji, giving him a weary look. “Hey, Shusuke?”
He nodded knowingly. “Yes, I know.”
“Alright, I’ll announce the teams.” Coach Ryuzaki stepped forward with a sheet of paper in her hand. “Inui-Kaidoh. Kawamura-Horio. Eiji-Fuji. Kachiro-Mizuno. Echizen-Momo. Mizuki-Mori. Jen-Choutarou. Shinji-Kamio. Shinya-Yuuta. Myself-Oishi. Everyone clear?”
Everyone nodded and found their respective partners.
“Quite the turn out, hmm?” Fuji murmered from beside you.
“They have no clue what they’re in for,” you muttered apologetically.
Eiji nodded in agreement, clutching your arm tightly. “Do you think Ryuzaki-sensei and Oishi will cheat again?”
“Probably,” you and Fuji chorused.
“Inui-Kaidoh pair. You’re up first.” Ryuzaki grinned.
Both boys glanced at each other before moving forward. Inui managed to knock down one pin in the corner, while Kaidoh knocked down five.
Taka and Horio went next. Taka was about to throw the ball when Horio stopped him. “Here, Kawamura-senpai!” he handed Taka his racket, making him go into burning mode and get a strike.
“That’s cheating!” you and Eiji chorused, angrily.
“Not-uh!” Horio stuck his tongue out at you.
Eiji and Fuji were next. Fuji grabbed the ball in his hands and threw it. The ball ended up going into the gutter. “Still haven’t gotten much better.” he murmured, thoughtfully.
Inui grinned evily again, appearing behing Fuji who sweatdropped. Everyone else froze, watching on in horror as he drank the blue-green liquid. He only took a couple sips before his body hit the ground.
“Fuji!” Taka ran to his side and shook him, to no avail.
Eiji ran over, as well, whining about that drink being murderous.
“Honestly, if Fuji can’t even stomach it, the rest of us are really in for it.” you announced, sitting next to Choutarou. He looked frightened. Then again, so did the others.
Eiji swallowed hard as he threw the ball. He hit a strike and jumped for joy, happy not to have to drink the demonic liquid.
Kachiro and Mizuno were next. Kachiro managed to get a strike on the first try.
Ryoma and Momo were after them. Momo managed to knock down all but two pins. Ryoma tried to get them both, but still only managed to get one.
Mizuki and Mori were up next. Of course, Mizuki had to be a show off and get a strike. He turned toward the group with a chuckle, twirling his hair around his finger. “Of course I got a strike, it’s all about the numbers.”
“Showoff,” you muttered as the two boys walked by. Mizuki stuck his tongue out at you and Mori only grinned.
Then it was time for you and Choutarou.
“I’m counting on you, Chou-chan.” you told him, resting you hand on his shoulder. “No pressure, though!”
He nodded, glancing down at you. “Don’t worry. I’ve got it.”
You grinned, taking a step back to give him room. He grabbed one of the balls and took a deep breath, throwing it down the lane. You instinctively grabbed onto the back of his shirt, praying to every god and deity you could think of. Your prayers were answered – he made it! A strike, he got a strike!
Letting out a relieved breath, he turned around just in time to catch you as you launched a hug at him.
“Way to go Choutarou!”
Shinji and Akira were up after you. Shinji was staring at the ball and muttering, so Akira tried to grab it. The two fought for the ball until Akira accidentally dropped it. He gulped, staring at the ball as it landed in the gutter.
Inui appeared behind him, grinning like a psychopath as he held the shot glass out to Kamio. He took it from his hand, gulping again before guzzling it down. Two seconds later, he collapsed.
Two drop out; Shusuke Fuji and Akira Kamio.
Shinya and Yuuta were the next ones to take their turn.
“Let me,” Shinya said, grabbing the bowling ball from Yuuta. He managed to hit a strike, making Yuuta let out a sigh of relief.
Last to go was Oishi and Ryuzaki-sensei. They both grinned and went over to their bags, getting out their bowling gloves.
Eiji gulped from your left, “We are so~ doomed.”
“Yup,” you nodded, watching as Oishi grabbed his ball and stepped forward. Of course he got a strike.
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
The battle continued on for a while and you had to admit, it was pretty fierce. Just like the last time, Oishi and Ryuzaki were cheating, catching people off guard just as they were throwing their balls. It wasn’t going well for the others.
After twenty minutes, almost everyone had dropped.
Ten Drop Out; Shusuke Fuji. Akira Kamio. Kaoru Kaidoh. Tatsunori Mori. Eiji Kikumaru. Yuuta Fuji. Inui Sadaharu. Takashi Kawamura. Shinya Yanagizawa. Satoshi Horio.
“Hey, Y/N?” Choutarou whispered, grabbing tightly onto your arm.
“Hmm?”
“We’re not that far behind. If Momo and Ryoma can ace this shot, their score will be above ours, but we can easily get our place back. It’s those seventh graders we have to look out for.”
“I know. Do you think you can take it?” you glanced at him curiously.
He nodded, giving you a determined look. “Definately.”
“I’ll take care of Momo and Ryoma, then.”
He nodded again, pulling away from you and grabbing one of the balls. He got another strike. Who would have thought that he was so good at bowling? You almost couldn’t believe that he’s never played before, but you were thankful that he was on your side.
You glared at coach Ryuzaki as she tricked Mizuki into getting a gutter ball. If she can play dirty, then so can you! Just as Momo went to throw the ball, you grinned and yelled out, “Momo, watch out for that puddle!”
“Huh?” He tripped over his own feet, the ball flying from his hands and into the gutter. It took him a moment to realize what had happened and then he turned around, glaring at you. “Cheater!”
“Like I’m the only one doing it?” you retorted, sitting back down next to Choutarou.
Momoshiro gulped as Ryuzaki held the shot glass in his face. He frowned, downing it and passing out before he got halfway through the drink.
Twelve Drop Out; Shusuke Fuji. Akira Kamio. Kaoru Kaidoh. Tatsunori Mori. Eiji Kikumaru. Yuuta Fuji. Inui Sadaharu. Takashi Kawamura. Shinya Yanagizawa. Satoshi Horio. Hajime Mizuki. Takeshi Momoshiro.
Choutarou picked up the ball and approached the line. He faked a throw, the corner of his mouth twitching up when Ryuzaki screamed, trying to distract him – he had anticipated it. You sent her a glare and she shrugged.
“I saw a roach,”
You glanced around the room, from the pile of bodies near the door to the eight people left standing. Kachiro squeaked when his foot slipped and he fell onto his behind, the ball landing in the next lane over. Your eyes narrowed at the small puddle of water near the line before snapping to Ryuzaki who was whistling innocently.
‘Isn’t she supposed to be teaching us sportsmanship? Jeez,’
Inui’s shadow covered the small boy like a menacing creature from the darkest depths of hell. Before the drink could even be offered, the boy flopped backward, unconscious. Mizuno, his partner, gulped in fear.
Shinji stood up and made a move toward the ball rack, but you stopped him, resting your hand over his. His eyes met yours and the concern touched his heart, bringing pink to his cheeks.
“Take your time and don’t let coach Ryuzaki distract you,” you told him softly, keeping your voice low.
He nodded, seeming to hesitate for a moment before leaning down and pecking your cheek. He mumbled something, but it was too low for you to hear it and he didn’t give you time to question it before he was approaching the line.
His form looked good and you were sure that the ball was at least going to hit, but it only just clipped the side pin before hitting the gutter. The pin in question wobbled a bit and you held your breath. The pin stilled.
Inui pounced, grabbing Shinji’s shoulder and nearly smacking the bluenette in the face with the cup. “Drink up, and enjoy~”
“No, wait!” You rushed forward, snatching the cup from his hand. The liquid felt slimey on your hand when it slipping over the rim. “I’ll drink it instead,”
“Senpai, no!” Choutarou grabbed your free hand, his brown eyes filled with worry.
“I have to do this,” you shook your head, pulling away from him. “Shinji… I really like you!” Before anyone could stop you, you tilted your head back and downed the contents of the cup. Those that were still conscious cried out in surprise and terror.
And then everything went quiet.
You blinked a few times, staring at the small drops in the bottom of the cup. Your head felt foggy.
“Senpai?” Choutarou whispered, scared that if he raised his voice, you might break.
Shinji approached, carefully taking the cup from your hand. “Are you okay?”
You wrinkled your nose and smacked your lips a few times. “Taste like lemon,”
Everyone fell to the floor dramatically aside from Ryuzaki, who just stared at you as if you had grown an extra head.
“What? Why are you lookin’ at me like that?”
“Oh look at the time, I have to go pick up Sakuno. Bye!” Ryuzaki turned tail and all but ran from the building.
“Isn’t Sakuno at home?” you wondered, bringing your attention back to Shinji when he took your hand. “Shinji, what -”
His lips met yours, silencing you. “I really like you, too.”
Oishi sighed deeply from his place on the ground, running his hand across his face. “What a strange world we live in,”
You grinned at the comment, wrapping your arms around Shinji’s waist.

“Oh Duskmother is training going to be a failure today,” she’d muse with a little grimace.  Picking up her beloved stuffie, Mr. Onion and her linkpearls, she’d gingerly walk herself back to her bed and plop herself down upon it, her silken robes  puddling around her she’d pull the pillow Shiro slept on still scented with his dusky rose cologne, hugging it tight as she flopped over onto her tummy. Kicking her leg’s playfully in the air, she’d ring her sister on her link pearl.
Ayla hearing the ring on the pearl, would put her blush wand down, and pick up, “Hi Rose.  What’s up?”  Returning to her makeup. listening in, expecting to hear more about the marvels of ice cream or her training with Lord Shiro she’d almost stab herself in the eye as a very cross, indignant voice rang out, “You should have told me you erased everything left from Toriko!  Duskmother’s sake Ayla!  I didn’t ask for my…..flower back, just the tattoo gone what even possessed….I didn’t….the sheets...I...Ayla!”
Unable to help it Ayla would burst into laughter on the other end.  Partially from being found out, partially from Rose’s indignation and partially because she could already deduce what happened.  Deciding not to explain herself for the moment, she’d instead ask in a voice oozing in smugness, “So….how was your evening with Lord Chilly-pants?” Adding to her taunt, “It was Lord Chilly-pants right? You didn’t get so desperate I have to worry about like pulling Hank’s feather’s out of you now I hope”
“Ayla!”  a low growl heard on the other end as Ayla returned to putting on her mascara, huffing a soft chuckle that she was able to once again fluster her younger sister. “Ayla, I swear...one day…” sighing and collecting herself, Rose’s voice softening, “Yes I spent my evening with Lord Shiro, and I was already not prepared enough without your curve ball being stacked upon it all.  Oh gods am I sore….”
Tumblr media
The elder sister’s voice softening on the other end, “Rose.  Sore is part of it, sorry to say. Aren’t you a warrior?  Think of it as battle or training.  You’ll get better, and your body will catch up I---Duskmother Rose, I healed back your mantle but you should know all this.  Didn’t it get easier with Shinji?  I mean I can’t imagine he was the gentlest partner sweetie.”
Her cheeks flashing hot she’d chew on one pausing before answering, “The only time Shinji was super rough was when he forgot he missed a step or twenty….and well I wasn’t expecting THAT part of me to be used.   That hurt.  And Shiro didn’t hurt me oh Duskmother!  What kind of monster do you even think he is?!”
“Well….” her sister’s voice trailing off as she thought she’d offer quietly, “A monster that did hunt my husband and originally more or less kill him…..twice.  Buuuuuuut, I still trust him...now.  Not with my husband, but with you, sure.” Giggling on the other end of the pearl, “Rose, other than being pissed at me for restoring any sign of Calar, how are you?”
Her voice filled with shy excitement, “Oh, I am perfect!  I am only not with Lord Shiro right now because it’s morning and he has business to attend to and I still need to take my bath and eat breakfast.  We have training later though….” her words pausing, when she’d next speak the awe would still be palatable, “Ayla.  He turned into a dragon.  Well, grew scales and wings and a tail like one and I think I almost passed out right there.  I mean, I already can’t stand near him without feeling flustered but when he transformed and had shimmering scales all over him, I swear I thought he was Azim brought back to this world and I about passed out! If his dragon cry didn’t cause my horns such painful ringing I probably would have.”
Giggling on the other end as she could hear the eager excitement and awe in her sister’s voice she’d also be taking note as she did not know Shiro had such powers, but Rose was not one to be false. “I would have loved to have seen your face.  He turned into a dragon in the bedroom though?  Dear sister, I’m all for people doing their thing, but that seems an odd way to start off.”
Tumblr media
Gasping she’d realize she hadn’t been clear and Rose would giggle too, “Oh Duskmother NO! In our training that morning.  He wanted me to use my full power against him and try to at least outlast...I almost did it too, but,” she’d growl in soft playful frustration, “He got me again….ice cube.  Always ice cube or ice prison.  I even know it’s coming and still can’t get the better on him!” Laughing “But oh gosh no.  Last night was just handsome Lord Shiro with me in my Cabin.  And aside from my not knowing about your little healing stunt, it was perfect.” Realizing that Shiro had said nothing to her even in the morning about it, she’d chew her cheek and look down at her diamond ice bracelet, “Though I don’t know what Lord Shiro even thinks now about my prior life or experience.  He, as he usually is, was the perfect gentleman and did not even mention it or ask. So...thanks for giving me that awkward worry.”
Shaking her head, she’d shush her sister calmly on the other end, “Rose.  It does not matter.  Even if you were as experienced as my husband last night, and the signs clear, it does not matter.  What matters is that you do what your heart wishes. Which leads to me being the big butt hole of a sister right now, but did you do that? Or did you feel you had to?”  Waiting for her sister’s reply, Ayla would take a deep breath, her fingers tracing along her own collar hoping her Sister had learned these past cycles and that she was now only making choices she wanted, not what she thought others wanted for and of her.  She already felt she knew based on past talks with Rose about Shiro, but now seemed the best time to ask the young woman her thoughts.
“Oh gosh yes!  If anything, my heart was thanking secretly like every deity ever worshiped.  I mean, I still don’t know how to show him that...nor am I brave enough.  And I still worry I’m severely out classed and outsmarted.  He is so fancy and brilliant and I am well...I still have tribal furs in my closet.  But I have fought every urge I have to not just wrap my arms around him and not let go for moons now….even in my dreams I was fighting that.  No.  I very much did what my heart wanted.  And I believe what his heart needed as well.  He...he asked if I’d be his Lady. Stay with him even after this war is over.  I don’t know what a Lady exactly is to a Lord, but he scoffed when I asked if it was like Pet.  Said he’d never call me a pet...kinda seemed  aghast I’d even think such a thing.  I just thought it was the word for mate you know?”  Huffing a little happy sigh, “But yes sweet overprotective Sister, I am making the choices I want to make, and while I don’t know what happens next anymore than anyone else does, I know he cares for me back.  Everything is just so much more...tender...even when he’s trying to teach me something.”
Tumblr media
Hearing Rose state and be sure of herself was a happy blessing in itself to the elder sister.  Still not wishing to get too dotey or serious she’d hum a soft laugh back, “Well the family harvest celebration table just got a lot more ...weird.  We women, we all get along great.  You, me Moli...but the menfolk….ever loving Duskmother.  I still haven’t told Captain what Sha did to me exactly, because I’d like Sha to live another day...maybe even two.  And Well Shiro and Captain, it’s progress they aren’t trying to slay each other anymore and we’ll leave that at that.  But it seems, my baby sis, little miss, ‘scales are a mark of warrior handsomeness’ has fallen in love with a furrball.”
Ayla’s joy over pointing out the irony of Rose’s disdain for Kuro having fur now that she too was paired with a Miqo'te, palatable, Rose would scoff, “Yours is still a furrball.  Mine is a king.”
Chuckling a little at her sister who she was pretty sure had no real memory of the chaos of the White Draco affair, “You have no idea.” Her voice softening as their conversation was winding to a close, “Rose. I am happy for you.  Despite the bickering you may see between him and me, Lord Shiro has proven himself a good, honorable man.  Just...don’t ever forget you have  a voice.  A purpose.  He cherishes you as you are.  And if that ever changes, then he isn’t deserving of you anymore.  But...if I had to guess, that’s not something you’ll have to worry about.”
“I know sis...you can stop momming me now.  And I’ll tell him I love him one day….just….I am not sure how nobles do that.  I’d like for at least one moment not to be my tribal fumbling self blurting out my thoughts.”  giggling, “But he keeps turning into dragons and oh Duskmother those kisses...I am not going to be able to stop myself.”  Looking up and realizing the time, “I should go though.  Training is in less than a bell and I need to be cleaned and fully armored ready to go….”  Pausing, before hanging up, “Ayla?”
“Yes Rose.”
“Thank you for healing away Calar.”
“You’re welcome Rose, but you did most of the work, I just removed the scars.  Go catch up to your lessons and your Furball. And stay safe.”
“You too.”  Hanging up the call, she’d hug Shiro’s pillow once more and take a deep sighing breath, parting with a smile, ready to set out on a new journey.
