Another poignant chapter not only marks the beginning of Fantine's sufferings but also initiates the tribulations of young Cosette. When we first encounter Cosette, she is well-cared-for, healthy, rosy-cheeked, and impeccably dressed. Regrettably, this idyllic situation is short-lived, and Hugo goes to great lengths to emphasize that it should not have unfolded this way. It was a twist of fate that evolved into a trap for Fantine.
Interestingly, I previously held the misconception that Fantine was pregnant when Tholomyès abandoned her. Now I see that she already had a baby. Hugo did say at the end of the previous chapter that she “had a child,” meaning she was not pregnant but did have a child already. It makes more sense then; it means that she managed to survive in Paris for ten months with an infant who was not a newborn. And she did not have to go through an illegitimate pregnancy and labour all alone. On the other hand, it means that Tholomyès did support her and Cosette for the first year – a year and a half? His desertion becomes even more deplorable, as he left not only his lover but also a child he was aware of.
From what I know about the circumstances of unmarried mothers, it seems that Hugo may have projected his knowledge of the era he was more familiar with onto an earlier period. In comparison to the harsh treatment an unmarried woman with a child might face in the seventeenth century, attitudes in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries were quite lenient and forgiving. The best Fantine could have done was to stay in Paris. But even in Montreuil-sur-mer, the social moral should not have been as harsh as Hugo presented. Regardless, we must work with the narrative as presented.
The ever-present Thénardiers make a reappearance, with Mme Thénardier depicted as a monstrous figure: a red-haired, towering, colossus-like wife of a soldier. While she will become a tormentor to Cosette, her physical stature is unrelated to her malevolence, likely reflecting Hugo's idiosyncrasies about tall women. (It's worth noting that grown-up Cosette will also be taller than average.) Fantine's tragic flaw lies in her inability to read people and perceive the impending danger emanating from these sinister figures. Unfortunately, this obliviousness will eventually become Cosette's nightmare. Poor girls.

MiracOlympus- Ship Headcanons
Here’s some headcanons for the godly lovers of one of my most recent AU’s! @artzychic27 @imsparky2002
Adrien rarely makes a decision as king of the gods without talking to Marinette first. He trusts his queen’s judgement more than anyone, they’re a team when it comes to ruling the heavens and earth.
One of Marc’s first gifts to Nathaniel was asphodel, the very first species of flower that was able to bloom in the Underworld. (He worked at it for weeks!) Nathaniel usually has one somewhere on his outfit.
Ondine’s favorite sea creature is the seahorse, because Kim made them specially for her. They didn’t come out looking quite like he wanted them to, but she loved them anyway!
As the goddess of beauty as well as love, Rose loves giving makeovers, and Juleka is her favorite model. Juleka’s not one for dressing up much, but she likes it because it makes Rose happy.
Mylene is quite possibly the only person who can pull Ivan away from his work in the forge to spend some time outdoors. They often go down to Earth for picnics where he’ll show her his latest projects.
Austin A is NOT the best dancer, and so for the longest time he wouldn’t dance at parties on Olympus because he didn’t want to embarrass herself in front of his boyfriend, the literal muse of dance. But Spinelli happened to witness him dancing wildly to her favorite song one day, and thought it was the cutest thing ever.
Kind of a multiple-ship one, but Austin A, Austin T, Anthony, and Brecken all received eight separate shovel talks when they began dating their respective partners. The muses are very close and protective of one another. (Ivan is also still deeply haunted by the shovel talk he got from Marc. Who knew the god of flowers and the Spring could be so terrifying?)
Anthony is the only person (besides Jean) who can always tell when Jesse is genuinely upset and not just being the muse of tragedy. He always takes him for a fly, and then they talk through what’s wrong.
Reshma and Margo have enormous crushes on each other, and they always linger for a bit once they finish their duties to watch the other bring the night and dawn respectively. They blush like crazy when they accidentally catch one another’s eye.
Simon and Denise have a game they play where he reassembles his stars and they try to guess what he’s trying to make a picture of. He’s also made numerous constellations in their honor.
The only time you see Alya cut loose is when Nino brings her to a party. He just seems to bring out her more carefree side, but she’d never admit that out loud.
Cosette and Zoe love to dance together, and whenever they do, it creates a beautiful cascade of rainbows through the night sky. Humans have started to call these the ‘Northern Lights’.
Luka is the only one who can calm Kagami down when she’s in ‘Warrior Rage’ mode. He usually does this by playing her favorite songs on his lyre.
Austin T taught Jean some meditation techniques to help him relax whenever he’s really stressed about a show. Jean uses them whenever he’s stressed because it reminds them of their boyfriend.
Aurore and Mireille like to race each other in the sky, so if you feel really strong cold and warm winds at the same time but the sky is clear, that’s why. The loser has to reward the winner with a kiss.
Evie once organized a group of Brecken’s animal companions to ‘sing’ a song she had written for him. It’s his favorite gift anyone’s ever given him.
Leave your thoughts in the comments and reblogs!

Watching 1776 with my family, and remembering another reason for me to lose weight…
I love acting, and singing, and I’ve always dreamed of performing. I can act pretty well I think, I can project, I’ve been told I’m good at singing… but I’ve never gotten the roles I’ve really wanted, and I think it’s because of how I look… partly my weight, I’m sure. I’ve always dreamed of being the main girl/ woman… beautiful, graceful, with songs like a nightingale and dresses that swirl and dance. But they’re all so much smaller… delicate and dainty. Of course no one wants to cast a big fat monster like me as Martha Jefferson or Adelaide or Sarah Brown or Eponine or Cosette… maybe I could be Tracy in Hairspray or Brunhilde in On the Town but… that’s so limited and… I mean, a big part of it is that’s they’re fat and… that’s kinda embarrassing if that’s all I can get, you know?
Idk, maybe I’m simply not talented but… in middle school my drama teacher said the only reason I wasn’t cast at all in The Wizard of Oz was because I didn’t look right. I was in all advanced choirs, all state choirs, district choirs, I represented my school in several productions in local theatres, and I was allowed to skip directly to advanced theatre in high school. I must be at least sort of good. But I only ever got background roles, or the ugly, awkward characters…
I want to be ethereal, beautiful, graceful. I want to be able to play the girl that you see on stage and think… wow. I’m afraid I’ll never be that girl. At least not at this size

Les Miserables US Tour 2022 (Philly)
Probably some spoilers I guess if you really don’t want to be spoiled!
Wow where do i begin. It was phenomenal. Every single actor up on stage blew me away. The staging was just absolutely amazing and involved. I had the best time and will 100% be looking for a bootleg of it later as the tour progresses. Now for some of my favorite things.
-The opening. Just w o w. Nick Cartell as Jean Valjean was absolutely perfect. He hit every note and made me cry four times just himself. Valjeans Soliloquy was also absolutely amazing
-After the opening before At the End of the Day they projected “Les Miserables” on the thin screen and the applause lasted the entire time up until they started singing
-Every piece of the set moved and it was awesome. They were climbing up and down the barricade, Marius climbing over Cosette’s gate, the houses moving together, just it was all amazing
-Haley Dortch as Fantine. That’s it.
-Lovely Ladies was great and had amazing energy
-Master of the House was so funny and just all around amazing. Thénardier and Madame Thénardier were s o funny and they had the best chemistry
-LITTLE COSETTE WAS SO CUTEEEE SHE SUNG BEAUTIFULLY
-Jean Valjean and Little Cosette were adorable. He gave her a little doll and then picked her up in a hug and spun her around and my heart was just so full.
-Gavroche
- Gavroche was so small he was amazing and adorable
-After The Robbery and before Stars when Javert was clearing the streets Gavroche went around saying “You heard the man” and chases the rest of the people off the stage including another officer. Then he turned to Javert and saluted him while Javert just stared at him like “Who is this child”
-Stars was just amazing Javert was awesome he was just wow
-Eponine has a p o w e r f u l voice and blew me away every time she opened her mouth
-Marius was perfect
-Enjolras, Grantaire, Courfeyrac, and just all of the rebels were perfect
-Grantaire and Enjolras though 😚
-During Red & Black Grantaire got his drink stolen and passed around the men and he tried to like fence them it was really funny
-After Gavroche stood on the table to announce Lemarques death Enjolras grabbed him by his armpits and yanked him off the table it was so cute but funny cause of how small Gavroche was and how hard Enjolras picked him up
-Grantaire and Gavroche
-Do You Hear the People Sing was fabulous. The red flag is just so good.
-In My Life and A Heart Full of Love were both so beautiful. Cosette had an absolutely incredible voice and a beautiful vibrato
-One Day More. Wow. The formation of the rebels, marching in an out of each other was just amazing. Again Jean Valjean hit every note. The end with the acapella “Oneee Dayyy” literally made me burst into tears and cry even harder at the flag in the back. Such a powerful part of the show.
-The barricade looked amazing. It was set so nicely. Also the lighting was insane for everything
-Did not recognize Javert when he came dressed as a rebel it was kind of funny
-The shooting between the rebels and police was so cool. They had lights flashing everywhere, the guns actually fired like fake rounds so it was actual gunpowder, it was so loud and ugh it was amazing
-Lots of people started coughing after the shooting started. Thought that was really funny
-On My Own was beautiful and I cried and the end opening up to Eponine being in front of the barricade with like 10 spot lights shining down on her from different directions was just 😚
-Gavroche flipped Javert off and it was just so funny. He was so small
-A Little Fall of Rain was so sad but beautiful. At one point towards the end of the song everyone at the barricade realized what was happening and started watching Eponine and Marius on the ground. Gavroche ran over and stopped in front of them and Grantaire came up behind him and wrapped his arms around him and it was so sweet. After Eponine died and they took her body away, Gavroche leaned down and gave her hat to Marius 🥺
-don’t know what he did with the hat
-Drink With Me was so sad but so good. Grantaire drunkenly tried to
fight Enjolras and was just so sad. Gavroche was behind the two of them trying to stop Grantaire from his drunken babbling. Grantaire then walked away to the far wall and leaned against it, facing towards the wall and away from the barricade, and Gavroche ran over and hugged him from behind 😢 They then fell asleep together, with Gavroche curled up next to Grantaire.
-Bring Him Home ding ding here comes the tears. Wow. Best version I have every heard.
-Gavroche :’(
-Gavroche’s death was so so sad. He slid down behind the barricade and allll of the rebels tried to grab him. It was sweet. While he was down there Grantaire looked away from the barricade and out towards the audience. After the first gun shot everyone started to look away sadly, but once Gavroche started singing again they all, including Grantaire, looked up and went towards the top to see him. Gavroche made it to the top of the barricade, but got shot and fell right into Enjolras’s arms. He gently handed him to Grantaire, who stared at him in utter disbelief.
-Before the final battle, Grantaire laid Gavroche’s body towards the front of the stage and sat there with him.
-Before Enjolras went to the top of the barricade to die he went down to Grantaire and grabbed his arm gently. Grantaire reached out and cupped Enjolras’s cheek with his hand 😭
-When Enjolras got shot he just fell of the barricade
-Mans literally just fell face first off of this giant structure
-They shone a spotlight down on every rebel who got shot, showing their deaths
-Grantaire was the last one to die, and he died the exact same way Enjolras did, by climbing up to the too of the barricade and getting shot. He fell back down on the barricade though, into like a sitting position
-They brought the barricade away with all of the rebels, so it was literally just Gavroche lying on the stage. Javert and another officer cane on stage after that
-The officer was pulling a cart and in the cart was Enjolras, upside down facing the audience, lying on the red flag. instant tears
-Javert kneeled down next to Gavroche and crossed himself before gently touching Gavroche’s arms and signaling for the officer to get his body and he was put next to Enjolras. As they were wheeling them out, Enjolras’s other arm that was on his chest or something, fell limply down and it broke my heart
-Javert’s Suicide was really sad but reallyy well done. The projections and animations were so cool and it made it look like Javert was actually falling. Awesome visuals. Dog Eats Dog was really good as well
-Turning was really pretty. They all brought out red and white candles and placed them on the floor and it was really nice
-By far the best Empty Chairs at Empty Tables I have heard. So much emotion and beautiful vocals. All of the rebels came out during the song and stood behind Marius, watching him. They moved to pick up the candles, still while watching them. Marius then kind of lashed out with heavy emotion and kind of scared them all off. They all went off except Enjolras, who watched him for a couple seconds more
-Marius and Valjeans confession was so good and heartbreaking
-The wedding was so prettyy they all had on such pretty dresses
-And of course Thénardier and Madame Thénardier stole the show again by being absolutely hilarious
-Valjean’s death was so sad :(
-Fantine and Eponine showing him the way to heaven was just beautiful
-Everyone coming out at the end, standing behind Cosette in Marius’s arms, singing Do You Hear The People Sing was enough to make me cry the rest of the show. The last chord made me cry even harder
-Don’t think I’ve ever cried that hard at a curtain call. Maybe in Hadestown or Hamilton. but i don’t think so
Just all around I’m so happy I finally got to see my favorite show live. And it was absolutely fabulous.
Thank you for getting this far and reading! And thanks for letting me rant!

Note
Seeing as my ass is currently being kicked by college application essays, I’m going to send some HCs, hopefully for both of our benefits!
-Cosette mostly wears dresses in her youth through her early 20s. She comes home in overalls and a flannel one day and Marius nearly passes out.
-Literally everyone knows Eponine & Cosette are in love before they realize it for themselves.
Ep: but she’s a girl!
Courf: yeah and?? I like girls.
Ep: oh…. yeah.
-Cosette curls her hair. Marius’s hair is naturally curly. He does not realize that hers isn’t and is shocked when he finds her putting in hair curlers.
-Marius makes Cosette daisy crowns when they go on picnics together and vice versa.
-Cosette has very neat handwriting. Eponine’s handwriting is completely illegible to everyone other than Cosette. Eponine sometimes writes Enjolras’s speeches when he’s busy and Cosette translates the handwriting so he can actually read it.
-Marius has surprisingly good home decoration abilities but terrible time management skills. He decides to paint his and Cosette’s bedroom when they move in together and it takes him like 12 hours just to tape off the trim. He tries to make excuses to get her to sleep on the couch, but she catches on and the surprise is ruined (but getting to paint together is worth it)
-Eponine likes to draw birds. She associates Cosette with white doves.
-Marius is terrible at DIY projects but frequently tries to surprise Cosette with his creations.
-Eponine buys Cosette yellow roses for Valentines Day because they remind her of the dandelion bouquets Cosette made as a kid.
-Cosette thinks Marius looks adorable with flowers in his hair so rather than pinning a rose to his coat at their wedding, he wears one behind his ear. (Courfeyrac reminds him to remove the thorns first)
-Marius has really shaky hands, especially when he’s cold. Cosette gifts him a new pair of mittens every Christmas.
-Sometimes, people give Eponine and Cosette strange looks when they hold hands or kiss each other in public. Eponine glares right back. She is very intimidating, so people don’t mess with her & Cosette.
-Marius and Cosette dance in their living room in the evenings.
These made me genuinely emotional I love them all so much. Especially the painting one and the yellow roses one. At some point I’ll come back to this and go more in depth to why I love them but for now please just take all of my love and appreciation and well wishes on your aps ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Apollo-Journal, 1 January 1926 [Image Source] Well if you want to read an idealized article about child acting, this one is for you. Also this girl did not go on to do much more acting and I can’t find much else about her.
“Mademoiselle Andrée Rolane, if you please?”
“Over here,” responds the charming mother of the young star who, in Henri Fescourt’s adaptation of Les Misérables, has just portrayed the young Cosette in a way that is sensitive and moving.
Then the mother yells out: “Dédé ! Dédé Come quickly, it’s for Pathé-Journal!”
The young actress comes running but an interview seems to be for her as severe as it is strange and she doesn’t hide that she would rather be playing than answering my line of questions.
It’s true that she is still a child, this moving little girl who has already made us cry so many tears, and, by turns, has thrilled us and agonized us since her debut in the cinema, before she was 5 years old.
For it has already been two and a half years since this star of seven years old appeared before the camera.
And, a curious thing, she regularly acts in roles for young boys which, by the way, is where she has had the most success, since in the cinema sincerity and naturalness are the more primordial qualities.  Andrée Rolane, the little actress of seven years, has a knack for her profession.
“You couldn’t imagine,” her mother tells me, “the way she transforms before the camera. The little girl you see playing like other children her age becomes entirely different when charged with acting in a role. She embodies exactly the emotion that she must express and I assure you that you’ll feel she is as genuine in laughing as she is crying.”
“And what is her reaction to finding herself on the screen?”
“Ah! At first she said nothing. She even seems surprised to see her image projected, but she is so happy that she stays quiet. She tastes her joy in silence.
And she finds real happiness in filming. She always finds that the shot is over too quickly. Imagine that during the filming of Les Misérables, she had days that were particularly difficult, and from morning to night she was acting without a break. And well! At the end of the day, she declared herself ready to start again.
It is true that everyone, beginning with M. Fescourt and Mme Sandra Milowanoff all the way to Gabriel Gabrio and the Thénardiers, portrayed in a memorable way by Renée Carl and Georges Saillard, all of them were great friends to her and made the job at hand most amiable.”
“And has the cinema developed in her the imaginative qualities found in most children?”
“Yes and, contrary to what some might think, in a purely artistic sense. For example, among other things, the cinema has developed her natural taste for colors because she loves painting. For Christmas, she asked for paints and a palette.”
“But I suppose that at her age she still plays with dolls?”
“Ah! Her dolls! Of course she adores them. Imagine, she could no longer go without Cosette’s beautiful doll. The cinema doesn’t kill children’s dreams. To the contrary! And the beautiful stories projected on the screen in our modern fashion, for us people of the 20th century, is that not our way of reviving fairy tales? By the way, she has read the marvelous stories of the Bibliothèque Rose and the ingenious novels of Mme de Ségur.
She cries over Sophie’s Misfortunes and the trials of Gribouille because she becomes emotional very easily.”
“I am no longer astonished that she can play sad parts with such sensibility. To her pathos is natural and that is precisely what makes her charm so poignant.”
There is nothing conventional or pre-planned. She has the true soul of a child in all its purity and dressed in all its grace, which you will discover before you. It is not possible, in my opinion, to go further in human emotion and to give a stronger impression than Andrée Rolane has done in her performance as Cosette, and to always have naturalness and simplicity that is so attractive because it feels spontaneous.
And that does not stop the young star from being a child full of life and happiness.
As soon as she is no longer in front of the camera, her true nature quickly comes to the surface and you must see for yourself with what heart she amuses herself!
Andrée Rolane, like most other stars, who are her elders, is fervently athletic.
She likes swimming and regularly takes swim lessons.
Her other great pleasure is to go to the Luxembourg gardens and to run beneath the big hundred-year old trees.
She had the most vivid love of nature. All children have that, by the by. Nature offers to them each day a landscape that is new and which enthralls their spirits and attracts their imaginations. The forests, the gardens are for them a world full of charming surprises and terrifying mysteries.
Therefore we know how Andrée Rolane, in a sober and realistic manner, knew how to depict Cosette’s terror at being lost in the forest.
It is certain that the young artist was able to bring to that episode in her character’s life an unequaled accent of truth. She only had to remember the twilights in the great gardens of Paris, where the night envelopes you in a mysterious shadow.
And also she isn’t lacking in other memories which are choice to draw on because since she was young Andrée Rolane has traveled.
Not only has she traveled in time, since Cosette lived under the Restoration, but also in space.
At four years old, while others were still hanging on to their nannies, she was acting in the very heart of Italy, in the role of a little boy in “The Blind Man of Pompeii.”
From this beginning she has precise memories and, in particular, a reminder of the character of the old blind man whose shaky steps she has to guide across the smoldering ruins of the ancient city, destroyed by the eruption of the volcano, is enough, even after years of distance, to fill her eyes with tears.
“And Cosette, my darling, how do you imagine her?” I ask.
“Oh sir!” responds Andrée Rolane, suddenly becoming serious, “Cosette is a little girl who would be like my twin sister, but who would be unhappy. One Sunday, in front of the church, I saw a little girl sitting on the steps among the beggars, poor, badly dressed, and truly sick who looked like her. Right away I thought of Cosette and I said to my mama that the cinema doesn’t lie because, walking through Paris you can find children who would be right to complain.”
“And you were really happy to play that part. You didn’t mind being badly dressed?”
“To the contrary! I had to because I was the scapegoat and the Thenardier mother let me go around barefoot. And also, beautiful dresses, they bother me. I will tell you a secret, I would rather always be dressed up as a little boy. One is more comfortable running and having fun that way. Fancy outfits, that’s for grown ups because when you’re a grown up, you’re forbidden to play. It must be really sad, isn’t it sir, to walk in beautiful gardens like the Tuileries, the Monceaux park, or the Luxembourg and to not be able to amuse yourself with a ball or a hoop. Say, doesn’t that bore you?”
…Naïve little Cosette, keep your ingenuity which makes you charming! Always keep your childlike smile, the untroubled gaze of a child not marred by any cloud, and in the bottom of your heart, keep the sincerity and pity that makes it so that you cry at the sight of a poor beggar. Keep believing in the wonderful beauty of stories, little actress of big roles, and never doubt that the characters which you portray have known both the sadness and the joy of existence.
And above all, continue to love with all your soul the art to which you have devoted yourself and in which, I hope, in these days of the new year, you will find the most beautiful and comforting success.

“Lovely Ladies”
After Fantine loses her job at the factory, conditions for her continue to worsen. She resorts to selling her locket and her hair in order to support Cosette, which is her first step into the dark underworld of M-Sur-M.
“What pretty hair, what pretty locks you’ve got there. . .”
The merchant and the wigmaker that Fantine encounters have one foot in the seedy underworld of the docks. Their clothing is not jarringly different from that of, say, the women in the factory, but they are a little ragged and more brightly colored. The secondhand merchant wears mismatched colors and patterns, while the wigmaker wears a wig that is clearly a wig. I designed a Mlle Baptistine that didn’t end up being part of this project, and the research I did into what her wig might look like was repurposed here for the wigmaker.

Lovely Ladies
There is a grotesque carnival-like atmosphere to the “Lovely Ladies” scene. We are seeing through Fantine’s eyes the dark world that she is being sucked into. However, these women are in a comparable position to Fantine’s — to keep them out of scary clown territory allows us to feel empathy for their situation as a whole, not just for Fantine.
Despite what we often see with modern depictions of 19th century sex workers, they probably aren’t walking around in drawers and corsets. During this period in the book, Fantine describes how she has “one silk dress for evening.” It’s much more likely that they are wearing some form of evening dress, which allows for the exposure of chests and arms. A hodgepodge of evening wear trends and silhouettes of the past twenty or so years adds texture and confusion to the scene. As an easter egg, I designed three of the ensemble women to reference the past three government regimes: we’ll call them Thérèse, Josephine, and Marianne.

Fantine
Although we just established that the “Lovely Ladies” aren’t walking around in corsets, whatever Fantine wears has to fit under her main dress for practical reasons. Though you might be able to fit a flimsy dress under her regular gown, exposing her chemise and corset highlights her vulnerability. The early 19th century was very all over the place in terms of corset styles, so we can choose one that is a little more bodice-like and looks good in the vivid red that distinguishes the “misérables” in this production.

Does anyone have a full length picture of the dress Cosette wears in the 2012 movie during In My Life/A Heart Full of Love? I need it for a project in film and I CAN'T FIND ANY.

2 part Commission Work - Harry Hook x Reader - part 2 - the masked princess
Tumblr media Tumblr media
commissioned by @musicarose
=
You sat sluggishly at your desk, the weekend had been harsh, your sister barging into your room constantly to rant about…well about you, but she didn’t know that.
And now apparently, Harry Hook was on the look for the masked girl who had run off before the reveal. And it hurt to hear your sister spit insults about you.
You thought Audrey had gotten better, but she still had work to do.
You stiffened as harry sat next to you, doing your best to not look at him, in fear of blushing heavily or blurting out the truth.
you wished you could tell him, but you were scared he wouldn’t like the girl under the mask and avoid you like everyone else did.
“good morning class! Today, we are going to start on a team project!” the class, including you groaned. “now, now it’s a simple research paper, im sure you can handle that, now I will be assigning you groups because SOME of you- “ the teacher eyed the students, who shrunk in their seats “like to exclude others so!”
The teacher took out the attendance sheet and went down the list, marking off as she grouped teams of two and three.
You looked to harry in the corner of your eye, he was just doodling on the edge of his paper. and as you looked closer, you saw your mask from the ball, on top of your hidden face.
‘hes drawing…me?’ you thought, feeling heat creep up your cheeks.
“mister hook and miss (whatever last name), you two will be partners” you jumped, yelping out as you hit your knee on the desk.
The class turned to you, laughter in their eyes, you blushed and looked away. You didn’t see harry glare back and knock his fist harshly against his desk, the class flinched and turned back to the front.
You zoned out the rest of the class, your foot tapping on the ground constantly.
Someone poked your shoulder, making you squeak and turn to them. “uh-uh hi?” Harry chuckled and gave you a soft smile and an eyebrow raise.
“hi luve, im harry, Harry Hook, and yeh are?” he held out his hand, you gently grasped it, mind flashing back to when he kissed the back of your hand.
You shook hands, a blush clear on your face “im-im (y/n)” harry nodded, releasing your hand and leaning back in his chair.
“I've seen yeh before, but I don’t know where?” you sighed, shoulders slagging down.
“im-im audreys little sister” harry nodded slowly, then shook his head.
“no I think I've seen yeh somewhere else…” you froze, hands clenched in your lap.  He snapped his fingers and pointed at you “oh, at the engagement party!” you breathed a sigh of relief, then paused.
“wait, I was only there for like- five minutes, and then I left?” Harry shrugged.
“im good at remembering faces” he laughed, it was odd, just like the night of the ball, you had become easily comfortable with him.
“well, I kinda zoned out on the topic?” you gave a vague gesture to him, he snorted and shook his head.
“no specific topic, we just gotta research somethin’” you hummed and tapped your desk.
“how bout…pirates? Since that would be something we're both interested in?” Harry sat up straight and looked at you surprised.
“yer interested in pirates?” you nodded eagerly and tapped your hands on your thighs.
“yeah! When I was a kid I would sneak off to the library and look for stories and books with pirates in them, my dad and grandparents didn’t really like it but my mom always encouraged me to keep learning, no matter what topic it was- sorry im rambling”
You shyly ended, rubbing the back of your neck, harry frowned, reaching out and cupping your cheek "someones told yeh that yeh talk too much, who?”
Oyu paused, looking at his wrist “u-uh-aud-aud-“ Harry let out a low sigh.
“yer sister, she's a nasty one, any tips ta get ‘er ta leave me alone?” you blinked surprised, leaning away from his hand.
“you-you want her to leave you alone?” harry swallowed harshly and rubbed his arm.
“she- shes not really…personally aware? And she makes me uncomfortable and its obvious that she only likes my face n crap”
You locked your jaw and furrowed your brows “and here I thought she learned from ben, ill see what I can do”
Harry softly smiled and nodded “thanks lass” the bell finally rang, the teacher calling the end of the team quite time and dismissing the class.
“the paper is due next month on the second! Have a good rest of your day!”
You stood from your desk, stuffing all your books and notes in your bag.
“So lass, well meet up at lunch alright?” you whipped around to look at Harry, who was smiling at you. “is tha’ okay” he frowned slightly, realizing he might have made you uncomfortable.
“no, no! it's okay, just didn’t expect that….no one usually willingly hangs out with me after…audreys stunt” harry looked offended and wrapped his arm around your shoulder.
“well, im changing that today, yer gonna met meh friends uma n gil alright? You’ll love em, after all” he grinned down at you “we’re pirates” he teased.
You blushed and looked away, though you didn’t remove his arm.
“Hey by the way” you looked back at him “do yeh know that masked girl from the masquerade ball? The one that was in that blue ombre dress?” you slowly shook your head.
“no, i-I didn’t go” Harry sighed, his shoulders slumping.
“Alright…”
You did your best to ignore his face and the tone of his voice.
=
Well…uma knew who you were, she had immediately reconsigned your voice and had pulled you into a corner and told you.
She didn’t tell Harry thankfully or force you to tell him, she took one look at you and knew you were scared of what would happen.
So she left that alone and became a friend.
So as the date of the research paper drew closer, you and harry were around each other more often than not. And honestly? Even if you didn’t like him all to hell and back you would have been very happy to have a friend like him.
He had legit swore at a group of kids who were whispering about you and trying to tell him to avoid you.
You were invited to crew nights at Umas dorm, eating breakfast lunch and dinner with Harry, Uma, and Gil.
You were finally breaking out of your little shell, and beginning to not care about what all the other students thought.
You still couldn’t bear the thought of telling harry you were the masked girl, you knew he would be disappointed.
Though one day, when you had to study for the paper in your private dorm room because of the rain outside and the library being closed.
Harry was bored and starting doing….Harry things and poking around your room as he waited for you to return with the books you left in your locker.
As he looked under your bed, his eyes locked with a large blue box. He tilted his head, and pulled it out, sitting back on his heels and slowly opening the box.
His breath stopped as his eyes connected with the elegant mask of the girl from the masquerade ball.
“all this time” he muttered, gently picking it up and brushing his thumb against the nose “it was yeh”
“How did you find that” harry turned, eyes widening as he locked eyes with you.
You looked terrified, clutching the books to your chest “you weren't-I wasn’t- I didn’t!” harry stood, quickly waking over to you and grabbing the books and tossing them on your bed. then grabbing your shoulders, instructing you to breathe with him.
“Hey hey hey! Im not mad, yer fine, yer fine! Its okay, breath with me love breathe~” you grabbed his arms and tried to breathe, feeling tears burn at your eyes.
“you-you're not disappointed?” you whimpered, a look of sadness and….love? came over his face.
“disappointed? Love im happy! Who knew the girl I've been fallin’ for was the same as the girl who stole meh heart at the ball”
Your eyes widened and your jaw dropped “you-you- falling for?”
“aye” he lifted his hand from your shoulder, cupping your cheek and gently stroking your cheek with his thumb “im falling for yeh…my princess”
You could feel the intense blush rise to your face, so you lunged forward and buried your face in his chest. You felt his laughter rumble in his chest as he wrapped his arms around you.
“can I kiss yeh?” he whispered, your head shot up, looking into his bright ocean blue eyes. You nodded slowly, fluttering your eyes closed as Harry leaned in.
And pressed the softest, purest kiss to your lips.
As he pulled away, you couldn’t open your eyes, “yer smiling” you heard him chuckle. You opened your eyes biting your lip.
“That was my first kiss” you whispered, harry hummed in surprise, then gave you his classic flirty grin.
“How bout I give yeh a second one?”
“yes please,” Harry leaned back in, pressing a slightly more passionate kiss to your lips, though he kept it soft as not to scare you.
It was funny when your sister walked in, about to rant once more about harry being obsessed with the masked girl, when she saw harry on top of you on your bed.
Harry just looked at her, gave her his middle finger, and resumed in his quest of giving you the best kiss of your life.
“(Y/N)!!!”

The full Esquire Spain interview translated from Spanish:
Eddie Redmayne trial: guilty of being the most talented (and stylish) actor of his generation
The Oscar winner talks about what it means to premiere a film with Aaron Sorkin (The Chicago 7th Trial on Netflix) and filming the new part of the most famous saga of all time under the watchful eye of its author, J.K. Rowling.
By Alba Díaz (text) / JUANKR (photos and video) / Álvaro de Juan (styling) 10/23/2020
At the Kettle’s Yard Gallery in Cambridge, stands alone and leaning on a piano Prometheus, a marble head made by Constantin Brâncusi, and the only piece of art that Eddie Redmayne (London, 1982) would save from possible massive destruction. He tells me about it as he leaves the filming set of the third installment of Fantastic Beasts in the early days of an autumn that, we suspect, we will never forget. It begins to get dark as the actor nods seriously: "I promise to do my best in this interview."
Eddie Redmayne made himself in the theater despite some voices warning him that he could not survive in it. "Many people were in charge to tell me that it would never work, that only extraordinary cases make it and that I would not be able to live from this professionally." Even his father came home one day with a list of statistics on unemployed young actors. Redmayne, who is extremely modest, polite and funny, adds: “But I enjoyed theater so much that I got to the point of thinking that if I could only do one play a year for the rest of my life… I would do it. And that would fill me completely.
Spoiler: since then until today he has participated in many more. He set his first foot in the industry when he debuted at the Shakespeare’s Globe Theater and won over critics and audiences. He then landed his first major role in My Week with Marilyn opposite Michelle Williams. And then came one of the roles of his life, the character he wanted to become an actor for, Marius. With him he sang, led a revolution and broke Cosette's heart in Les Miserables. “I found out about the Les Misérables auditions when I was shooting a movie in Illinois. Dressed like a cowboy. I picked up the iPhone and videotaped myself singing the Marius song. I always wanted to be him ”.
Now Redmayne is an Oscar winner - thanks to his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything - and the protagonist of one of the most important sagas in history, Fantastic Beasts. He plays the magizoologist Newt Scamander in it. When I ask him what it means to him to be the protagonist of a magical world that is so important to millions of people, Eddie sighs and takes a few seconds to answer. “I have always loved the Harry Potter universe. Some people like The Lord of the Rings or Star Wars ... But, for me, the idea that there is a magical world that happens right in front of you, that happens without going any further on the streets of London, that. .. That exploded my imagination in another way.
During the quarantine, J. K. Rowling, who has been in charge of the script of the film, sparked a controversy through a series of tweets about transgender women. Redmayne assures that he does not agree with these statements but that it does not approve of the attacks of some people through social networks. The actor was one of the first to position himself against Rowling alongside Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and other protagonists of her films. "Trans women are women, trans men are men, and non-binary identities are valid."
After having spent a while talking, Redmayne confesses to me that he has never been a big dreamer not to maintain certain aspirations that ended up disappointing him. So he has always kept a handful of dreams to himself. One of them was fulfilled just a few weeks ago with the premiere of The Trial of the Chicago 7, a film written and directed by Aaron Sorkin that can already be seen on Netflix and in some - few - cinemas. “I was on vacation with my wife in Morocco and the script arrived. I think I called my agent before I even read it and said yes, I would. She probably thought the obvious, that I'm stupid. After that, of course I read the script, which is about a specific moment in history that I knew very little about. I found it exciting and a very relevant drama in today's times. "
And it is that having a script by Aaron Sorkin in your hands is no small thing. Eddie Redmayne has been a fan of his work ever since he saw The West Wing of the White House. “His scripts have delicious language and dialogue. As an actor, it's fun to play characters that are much smarter than you are in real life. That virtuosity is hard to come by. I really hope that audiences enjoy this movie and feel that there is always hope. " He remembers that since he released The Theory of Everything he has recorded, to a large extent, English period dramas, “and although the new Aaron Sorkin is not strictly contemporary,” says Redmayne, “to be able to wear jeans and shirts and sweaters instead of so much tweed is great ”.
Besides acting, art was the only thing the actor was interested in, so he ended up studying Art History at Cambridge University. “My parents are quite traditional and when I told them I wanted to act they gave me free rein but on the condition that I study a career. And I'm very grateful for that because ... Look, beyond that, when I play a real character I usually go to the National Portrait Gallery in London quite often. There I lock myself up. Now, for Sorkin's film, I went through a lot of photographs and videotapes. Art helps me to be more creative, to get into paper ”. If he were not an actor, he would be, he says decidedly, a historian or perhaps a curator. "Although I think he would be a very bad art curator."
Against all logic, Eddie Redmayne is color blind. But there is a color that you can distinguish anywhere and on any surface: klein blue. He wrote his thesis on the French artist Yves Klein and the only shade of blue he used in his works. He wrote up to 30,000 words talking about that color with which he became obsessed. “It is surprising that a color can be so emotional. One can only hope to achieve that intensity in acting. "
Like his taste for art, which encompasses the refined and compact, Redmayne seems to be in the same balance when it comes to the roles he chooses. When I ask him what aspects a character he wants to play should have, he takes a few seconds again before answering: “I wish I had a more ingenious answer but I will tell you that I know when my belly hurts. It's that feeling that I trust. In my mind I transport him to imagine myself playing that character. When I read a script I have to really enjoy it. You never fully regret those instincts. It's like when you connect with something emotionally. "
So we come to the conclusion that all his characters have some traits in common. "You know what? I never look back, and this is something personal, but I do believe that there is a parallel between Marius in Les Misérables trying to be a revolutionary, someone who is quite prone to being distracted by love but at the same time is willing to die for his cause, and Tom Hayden from The Chicago Trial of the 7 who was a man who had integrity and was passionate and fought for the things he believed in. So I suppose there may also be similarities between a young Stephen Hawking and Newt Scamander. There are traits in common in all of them that I don't really know where they come from ”.
When we talk about the year we are living in, in which it is increasingly difficult to find hope, we both let out a nervous laugh. "There must be," Redmayne says. “There is something very nice that Tom Hayden, the character I play in Sorkin's film, said to his former wife, actress Jane Fonda, just the day before she passed away. He told her that watching people die for their beliefs changed his life forever. In that sense, I also think about what Kennedy Jr. wrote about how democracy is messy, tough and never easy ... As is believing in something to fight for. I look at history and how they were willing to live their lives with that integrity to change the world and I realize that somehow that spirit still remains with us. " We fell silent thinking about it. "There must be hope."
I tell him about my love for Nick Cave's blog, The Red Hand, and one of the posts that I have liked the most in recent weeks. In it, the singer affirms that his response to a crisis has always been to create, an impulse that has saved him many times. For Redmayne there are two activities that can silence noise: drawing and playing the piano. “When you play the piano your concentration is so consumed by trying to hit that note that you can't think of anything else. Similarly, when you draw something, the focus is between the paper and what you are trying to recreate ... There I try to calm my mind.
Before saying goodbye, I drop a question that I thought I knew the answer to, but failed. What work of art would you save from mass destruction? "How difficult! I could name my favorite artists but still couldn't choose a work. Only one piece? Let me think. I am very obsessed with Yves Klein, but I would stick with a work by Brancusi. There is a sculpture of him, a small head called Prometheus, in Cambridge's Kettle’s Yard, on a dark mahogany piano. The truth is that I find it very ... beautiful ”.
Before leaving, he confesses to me - with a childish and slow voice - that he would like to direct something one day. We said goodbye, saying that we will talk about his next project. Next, the first thing I do is open the Google search engine. "P-r-o-m-e-t-h-e-u-s". Although Eddie Redmayne has trouble distinguishing violet from blue, he doesn't have them when choosing a good piece. He's right, that work deserves to be saved.

luffy: breaks a prop first. hes in the ensemble and does amazing action sequences and physical acting; he WILL eat ALL prop food no matter what; nami obviously is not having it and law suggests poisoning it; luffys also really good at improv and will step up and make crap up when the show goes wrong; has a really hard time with memorizing lines though
law: backstage manager. materializes out of the shadows to do crew stuff; nami has tasked him with keeping track of zoro; thats not going well; also has to keep ace from lighting stuff on fire; wow those are two large jobs

zoro: stage crew/ ensemble/small amount of lines. honestly its a miracle he ever gets un-lost; the spotlight operator really has to be ready because he very could end up saying his lines from the middle of the audience, or a catwalk; lifts heavy stuff; is a pro at scene change planning/logistics and also fight choreo!!
sanji: gets lead roles. is super passionate about love stories, loves playing princes; people think hes doing some really pretentious and overzealous ad-libbing when he does his weird thing with the way he speaks to women;
robin: the drama teacher. has the vision but really trusts the kids as artists too; wants to give every show they do a dark twist; wants her students to understand the message of the shows; historical accuracy
brook: in charge of the orchestra! manages to direct and play violin and cheers really loud; is not allowed backstage, especially anywhere near the ladies dressing room
ace: lighting! teaches people how to operate the spotlight; carefully considers the lighting design for each scene; also will really commit to a role, plays show-stealing secondary characters; sometimes just doesnt show up to rehearsal; wants every show they do to have pyrotechnics; “ooone day mooo --” *WOOSH* pillars of fire erupting on the stage;
sabo: keeps petitioning the school to do one of the plays he writes about overthrowing goverments; competes with ace to cheer the loudest for luffy; didnt want to audition but kept hanging around rehearsals for his bros and robin gave him a role; loves les mis; played enjolras; waved that flag so freakin hard
usopp: designs and builds and thrift shops for props, paints some backdrops and also acts! does well with monologues; plays a lot of kings and dads, loves to do villains; drinks tons of coffee to get all of his projects done; isnt fully off-book til the last minute

shanks:the art teacher who shows up drunk/hungover/baked and likes to help out with shows
bartolomeo: sound crew. has to take a moment outside when he gets too excited over luffys performance; fights people if they insult theatre
mihawk: very successful pro stuntman happens to live next door to the school and shanks bothers him into making some guest appearances to teach

Post the last seven sentences of your latest project (meta, fic, any other writing). @lookninjas tagged me so here’s a bit from the Les Mis fic I’m writing. There are lots of threads in this that I don’t know where they’re going and I’m going to have to finesse this a lot once I’ve got all the words down on the page but I’m enjoying writing it and I’m happy with how it’s going so far.
Anyway here’s some words:
Did her father know how much all these people appreciated him? They all knew Jean Fauchelevent, not Jean Valjean or Mr Madeline or any of the other versions of him that existed.
Cosette was dragged out of her thoughts by a tap on her shoulder. Grantaire was holding a cup of water for her.
“Hey Cosette, do you know that guy?” He pointed to a man who was pouring through the guestbook  with a sneer on his face. He was immaculately dressed in a black suit and looked to be close to her father’s age.
If you want to do this consider yourself tagged!

Children of BFFH, Entry 48
Even after a couple weeks with the three brothers on their island, the world held constant wonder for me.  We had flown to this city on an airplane in the night, and parts of the city still seemed lively.  The view from the air had been dazzling. lights stretching out toward the horizon.  On the ground, I could see that many of the streets were lit, but empty.  I wanted to explore and learn more, but we were racing the sun.  Vampires were always racing the sun.  I had learned this.
The blood knowledge granted me was full of facts and language skills, but Vito said he couldn’t share wisdom or understanding through blood.  I had no idea what he had meant initially, but Zachary and Papak—Vito’s brothers—helped Vito to show me.  I knew dozens of languages, but I could completely miss what was being said if I didn’t understand colloquialisms of the area in which they were spoken.  Likewise, I knew what numerous machines were, but I still didn’t understand the details of how they worked.  The blood knowledge granted me mental paintings, but I needed experience to relate to the artists’ emotions.
Learning from the brothers was much more fun than the tutors in my old life, strict and impatient if I grew distracted.  My old home was probably long gone.  My dresses, hairbrush, and lyre certainly were.  Embroidery practice wasn’t necessary anymore, though Vito felt I should still perfect my skills just for the sake of having them.
“What’s the matter, child?” questioned Vito as he wiped a tear from my cheek.
I shook my head, saying, “Nothing.  Sorry.”
Ariadne hugged me.  “Missing us already?  We will visit.”
“I was thinking of my mother.  I know she’s been dead for hundreds of years, but I feel that I saw her just weeks ago.” I explained, brushing another tear away.  I knew Ariadne wouldn’t care about tears in her shirt, but I still did.  I lived in a time where fabrics were precious and tended with great care.  Ariadne could create new ones in an instant, already cut and sewn.  Magic lessons were more important now than knowing how to store my clothes.
Ariadne squeezed me tighter, looking more like a girl my age than an old vampire of considerable renown.
“Never forsake your tears, my dear.  Vampires who forget the concerns of mortals don’t tend to live long themselves.” stated Vito, smiling at me like a kindly grandfather.  “We’re here.” He announced, though the limousine hadn’t stopped yet.
I looked out and saw a sprawling building, not the biggest I had seen since waking, but certainly quite large.  The brothers had spoken of James Michael Somerset III in so many different ways that I had no way knowing what he’d be like.  He was rich.  That much was inarguable.  I wasn’t certain if he was young or old, human or something else.  The brothers acted as if he was a younger brother, but spoke of him as someone of incredible power whenever I asked a question.  They made jokes about him, but warned never to underestimate him.  They were probably confusing me on purpose.
I blinked, and then found myself staring.  A young man had appeared at the front of the house.  He wore a fine suit, similar to how the brothers dressed, and looked as if he was prepared to wait an eternity for us to reach him.  Yes, the limousine was a slow, meandering thing, but the brothers had insisted that acting mortal when observed was paramount for a vampire, lest we draw the attention of a Slayer.  I took most of my first week to realize that the Slayers were a family, not a group of vampire hunters, though they apparently did hunt vampires down if the vampires drew their ire.
“I’m sure I’ve told you, Valeria, but you should always expect James to know more than you do.  These days, he tends to be more aware than my brothers and me.” Vito reminded me, smiling as he observed James.
When we finally stepped out of the car, James immediately smiled, saying, “Always a pleasure to see you, my friends.”  He leaned down to look me in the eye and held out a hand as he said, “Valeria, meeting you is a pleasure as well.  I am James Michael Somerset III, and you are quite welcome to live here, though I left discussing your presence with Cosette to Vito and Ariadne.”
Vito was frowning a little when I looked up at him.  “How long have you known?” questioned Vito.
“Only three weeks, but I am quite certain that Cosette will oblige you.  Unfortunately, I can’t remain to see you inside.  I’m actually out on business at the moment, but Mila is ever willing to accommodate your needs.” he told us, disappearing as he said the last word.
“But… I wasn’t even awake yet three weeks past.” I stated, looking to Vito and Ariadne for answers.
“No, you weren’t, but James is James.” replied Vito, still frowning slightly.
“You know there was probably a reason he couldn’t warn us.” suggested Ariadne.
“How could he be out on business if he was here?” I questioned, hoping for an actual answer to this one.
“James is James.” replied Vito with a shrug.  “He didn’t run off just now.  He either wasn’t really here, leaving an incredible illusion to greet us, or he teleported here long enough to greet us in person.  Either way, don’t expect anyone else to pull off such a trick.”  Then he muttered in a barely audible whisper “I swear I felt him, so he was probably here.”
“In this household, you’ll be able to be yourself without disguise.  Most everyone has magic of their own.  Though some are very human physically, others will exceed you greatly.  Do be careful not to hurt anyone, or you might see what James is like when he’s in a bad mood.” warned Ariadne.
The doors opened, and a very beautiful maid stood just inside the building.  I jumped, my head swiveling back and forth, when I caught sight of our driver stepping out of the limousine.  They looked like the same person!  That face… “Mila!?” I asked.
“Yes, I am Mila Wilson.” replied the maid as she curtsied.  “If you need anything, just ask.  I’ll hear and attempt to help you.”
“You’re the oracle of the mirror.” I told her, wanting to be certain.
She smirked.  “I’m hardly an oracle, but I am well-connected.  My other body will get your bags, so please follow me.”
“Always listen to Mila if she gives you instruction, my dear.” stated Vito as he and Ariadne went up into the house.  “Mila takes care of this household and all who dwell here.  She’s also the daughter of the brightest person you’ll ever meet, and her daughter is…  Well, how is Serenity these days?”
“Exuberant just as often as when you last saw her.  I’m keeping her distracted with a project at the moment, so she won’t bother Valeria before she’s moved in.” explained Mila, sounding amused.
Vito nodded and said, “‘Exuberant’ does seem quite fitting for her.  Valeria, don’t challenge Serenity at anything until after you’ve gotten to know her.  Just as you could accidentally hurt some of the more human children here, Serenity could accidentally hurt you if she gets carried away.”
“She rarely hurts anyone other than herself more than superficially, at least physically.  The shock to people’s minds is more often the problem.” insisted Mila, glancing back at us.
“Have there been any serious incidents lately?” questioned Ariadne in concern.
Mila shook her head.  “No.  The worst we’ve had recently was a visitor who suffered from mild shock after having a snowball fight.  Serenity went a little overboard trying to protect her.”
 “Snowball fight?” I asked.
“Ah, yes.  You would’ve been kept indoors in winter.  Rolling small balls of snow and throwing them at one another in a sort of game was common even when you were born.  Here, there are probably complicated rules and a great deal of magic involved.” explained Vito.
“Magic more than rules in our snowball fights.” acknowledge Mila, sounding amused.
When I stopped asking questions, Mila started explaining what rooms we were passing throughout the house, promising to show me a map and explaining more once I was in my room.  The second floor of the Northwest wing was where Cosette lived, and where I’d be staying if she agreed.
The door opened as we arrived, and a pretty, chestnut-haired woman with deep blue eyes stood there in a lovely, white blouse and a dark blue skirt that barely went past her knees.  I knew that this wasn’t considered immodest now, but I also knew my mother wouldn’t have approved, even with the white stockings covering her legs.
Brushing back some wandering strands of hair, the woman said, “What a pleasant surprise!  Please, come in.”  Then she stepped out of the way, motioning for us to enter.
“Sorry to barge in on you like this, but we felt discussing things with you in person would be for the best.” replied Ariadne, squeezing me by my shoulders after she walked with me into the room.  “This is Veleria Cornaro.”
Curtsying, I said, “A pleasure to meet you, Cosette.”  I felt nervous, reminded of when mother introduced me to different nobles.
Cosette seemed amused when I met her eyes.  Had I done something wrong?  What if she turned me away?  What would become of me?
“Nice to meet you, Valeria.  Care to sit?” she asked, pointing us onward farther into the room.
“Thank you, my dear.” replied Vito, gracefully walking past her and taking a seat on a comfortable-looking sofa.  Furniture had changed a great deal over the years, and I couldn’t gauge whether much of what was in here would be considered expensive or not.
Ariadne and I sat next to him, and Cosette took a seat opposite to us on another sofa there.  She was well-bred.  Her posture as she walked and sat made me certain of it.  She was speaking with one of the oldest three vampires and still seemed confident in her domain.
“I accept.” stated Cosette after we sat in silence for several seconds.
 Huh?  What just happened?
 “Are you sure?” questioned Ariadne.
“Yes.  Though this is certainly unexpected, You and Vito wouldn’t bring such an untrained vampire here if she did not need someone to care for her.  She obviously needs some more practice blending in, although I’d guess her to be at least a couple hundred years old.  How did you find her?” questioned Cosette.
I couldn’t figure out what I was missing, but I knew I must be missing a great deal.
“Quite right.  She is five-hundred-and-sixty-four years old, but her mind matches her body.  Whoever prepared her blood bath was quite skilled, so her body was almost at peak condition within days.  There was an accident at an archaeological site, and the worker’s blood revived her when the seal was broken.  Highly unusual circumstances.  She’s fifteenth century Italian and from a noble family at that.  Furthermore, she possesses quite rare magic.  Even Ariadne hadn’t seen the like among the fey.” explained Vito as if talking about an enjoyable outing.
I had so many questions.  What was a blood bath?  Who was injured?  What were the fey he spoke of?  Would asking anything be considered rude by Cosette?
Apparently reading my worries on my face, Cosette said, “A blood bath is, more or less, what it sounds like, Valeria.  A vampire is immersed in blood that was transformed, allowing it to retain vital energy for many, many years.  That was primarily used as a way to hide during dangerous years for our kind.  Your body drank up the blood and its energy.  A more experienced vampire would have been able to completely wake themselves after the blood ran out.  Since you were newly turned when you went in, you didn’t have that sort of reflex, drying out till you were indistinguishable from a well-preserved corpse.”
“What seal was broken?  Who was injured?” I asked, since she seemed obliging.
Ariadne hugged me again.  “One of the workers was struck by a crumbling pillar.  The lid of your coffin was broken, allowing his blood to nourish you.”
“And what are the fey?” I asked.
“Magical beings whose blood mingled with that of humans off and on throughout the years, granting magical gifts to the descendents.  Some can disappear at whim.  Others can control light, sound, or fire.  There are fey who change their shape faster than you can change your clothes.  Categorizing them all would be tedious, so we tend to lump them together more often than not.” she told me.
“What is your magic like?” questioned Cosette.
Seeing Vito nod, I showed her.  Her eyes widened in surprise, and she smiled at me in delight.  Maybe she really would accept me.

Imagine...
You did not know Cosette Thenardier well, but are still flattered to be invited to her wedding. According to the invitation, she's marrying a baron, which you will concede is super cool even if Cosette has always been weird. Even though she got adopted about a decade ago she's fiercely held onto the name of her foster parents, declaring that they are more her family than her adopted dad will ever be. It's not your business, though, so you keep your nose out of it.
It's hard trying to choose something to wear. It's a wedding, so anything white or cream is off-limits, as is the raunchier side of your wardrobe. You're way too nice to want to ruin her big day, but you're hoping there might be some eligible bachelors there. You had a quick scroll through the Facebook event for the wedding (it's Disney princess themed, bleugh) and note that someone called Theodule Gillenormand is going. His Facebook page tells you almost nothing, but then his profile picture is of his abs, so that is something.
The outfit you settle on is cute without being too distracting. You put your hair in a simple bun and keep your makeup minimal, just some BB cream, concealer, primer, matte eyeshadow, eyebrow pencil, eyeliner, matte lipstick, mascara and a small pair of fake lashes. It takes you longer than you expected to get ready, but eventually you're ready to bounce out of the house and into the Uber.
The wedding itself is okay. The groom makes a super long speech about how all of his friends would have been there had they not tragically died, which is a massive bummer. There's an open bar, though, which you hit up early and the evening is way more tolerable with copious amounts of wine.
The good news is that everyone is super dressed up and nothing makes guys hotter like formalwear. You've never really been into older dudes, but some of them are looking seriously dapper and you are digging it.
One guy offers you a drink during the reception. You hold up your Jagerbomb to indicate the offer isn't necessary, but smile as you do so.
'It's a lovely wedding,' you say.
'Isn't it?' he sighs. 'They both look so beautiful.'
You nod. Cosette's dress was... interesting, but now isn't the time to go all Project Runway. 'How do you know the happy couple?'
'I'm her father,' the guy says.
Oh shit. That would make him Mr Fauchelevent - ex-con and hottest bit of man meat on the block. Everyone in Paris - nay, everyone in France - knows about Mr Fauchy's back muscles. It's said he once crushed a policeman like a walnut.
'You must be very proud,' you say, and then accidentally-on-purpose spill your drink onto your bodice. 'Ohmygod! I'm so clumsy.'
'Here!' Mr fauchelevent hands you some wadded up tissues. He's got sufficient manners not to do the mopping-up job himself, though from the way his eyes linger on your heaving bosom he clearly wants to.
'Thank you,' you gush, tugging the neckline down so as to wipe the sticky liquid from your chest. 'Oh no, I think I need to wash this properly. Could you give me a hand.'
Mr Fauchelevent's eyes sparkle. He offers you his arm, as if to walk you to the bathroom. 'Certainly.'
