Coppelia (Act 1 Waltz) (Ballet Music, Delibes)
youtube
The beautiful eyed doll Coppelia, and Franz, a young man who falls in love with her, sneak into the house and have a ``love affair'' with the doll, and this is the graceful waltz that plays at that time. Jealous and suspicious, his lover Swanilda destroys the doll, bringing Franz back to his senses. Still, Franz must have been immersed in a sweet dream. In ballet music, I think it's the most graceful piece.

& IF WE’RE ALL DRESSED UP, THEY MIGHT AS WELL BE LOOKING AT US
featuring— neuvillette x reader ⤀ warnings: implied fem!reader, nothing specific + no pronouns mentioned ⤀ summary: making your debut as a couple at the hallow's eve ball a/n: wrote this last minute but i'm in one of the latest timezones, so happy halloween ! (written before 4.2 aq)
Tumblr media
"furina might be upset if we steal her spotlight tonight," you mutter, fingers nervously straightening the cravat resting at neuvillette's neck for the nth time tonight.
"let her be upset then. it’s not a storm i haven’t weathered before," he replies, wrapping his hands around yours before lowering them back down to your sides. he's sure you've fixed his cravat to be more than perfect already.
"yes, but garnering our archon's contempt isn't exactly something off my bucket list..."
a low hum ripples in his throat as he tilts is head in earnest trepidation. "are you having second thoughts?"
you shake your head—absolutely not. a secret relationship is no easy feat, much less one with someone as high profile as neuvillette, who in spite of his distaste for lingering within the public eye, is still often thrust into the spotlight by those hoping for a glimpse into the chief justice’s private life.
"just a little nervous I guess," you breathe.
to reveal the nature of your relationship, is a decision you've made as a united front. the gossip columns of the steambird already run rampant with thinly veiled monikers, and there's not much either of you can do when an 'honorable monsieur n' is once again spotted with a 'mystery someone'.
it'd open the floodgates to an onslaught of curiosities, but neuvillette would have the city be his witness, for though he still has much to learn about the ins and outs of human nature, he knows for a fact that his entire heart is yours. so whilst no authority in this land can truly stop the peoples' whispers, if fontaine wishes to talk, they can do so on your terms, without the threat scandal.
before the two of you, stands a pair of large double doors; the only thing between you and focalor's hallows eve ball, the only shelter from the costumed elite of fontainian society who's predatory eyes would land on you the second you step past the threshold.
to your left, neuvillette stands with an arm behind his back, a perfect gentleman costumed in the finest fabrics, the gold metal details glinting under the chandelier's light. with a deep breath, you straighten as you exhale, carrying the weight of your own matching costume with a dignity befitting of the iudex's lover.
coppelia and coppelius, two individual entities, who when together, waltzes amidst a flurry of ice and wind, persevering through any storm. gingerly, you take his outstretched hand, nodding as the doors creak open.
Tumblr media
a/n2: tbh i only wrote this cus i thought coppelia & coppelius would be a super cool couples costume HAHA anways thanks for reading, and as always, reblogs + feedback are super appreciated ^^

Let the world be our stage
summary : neuvillette and you meet to watch an opera; you, however, are fascinated by the dance of Coppelia and Copellius which leads to a change of plans
contains : dancing and other sweet things ; fluff ; gn!reader, this drabble is written in second person
word count : 550
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The cryo glazed path shines silver beneath the spotlight of the moon. An eternal waltz, two automatons sway. A gentle serenade echoing through the emptiness of the Erinnyes.
You watch. Across the ice, they dance, and the world comes to a halt around Coppelia and Coppelius.
Music in your ears, the wind in your hair, and a smile adorning your face, and carrying serenity in your heart.
Two automatons they might as well be, but how lovely they are, you muse to yourself. Dancing through the moonlit evenings, and until dawn leaks its colours into the sky.
Oh to waltz, to swing and sway, and oh to be them. To sway into the night and have laughter sing with midnight serenades.... ah, Fontaine had turned your heart into a romantic. A chuckle rang into the night as that thought amused you.
The sound of heeled boots clicking against the tiles breaks you out of your reverie. Turning to glance over your shoulder, you greet the one you were meant to rendezvous with. Approaching you is the Iudex of Fontaine.
"What's on your mind?" He asks after returning your greeting, your smile mirrored on his face.
"Nothing," you shake your head, eyes drifting back to the ice coated stage.
Of course, the automatons carried on, like two butterflies fluttering through flower-filled meadows; all the world but a backdrop for their performance.
Performance... Oh!
"Ah, if you've arrived that means the opera—"
"No need to fret," Neuvillette assures you, and you wonder if his smile was always this sweet, or if the moonlight honeyed the sight. "The opera doesn't start until half an hour. I finished my duties earlier than expected, but didn’t anticipate seeing you here so soon."
"I simply wanted to take some time to admire what deserves admiration," you raise a hand, gesturing towards the waltz under the moon.
No matter how much you watched, it elicited a happy thump in your chest. Everything, from the sparkling ice allowing the two meka to skate through the expanse of their stage, to the perfection in the movements of the dancing pair, it captured your heart and made you giddy. They swayed alike a flower's dance with the wind.
"It's marvellous," you whispered. Coppelia and Coppelius danced, swinging to and fro; a mysterious force attracting them together, pulling them in as they swayed in perfect harmony. It made you think of how the moon circles the earth as these meka so passionately do.
Ah... Fontaine truly was influencing you with its intoxicating beauty.
"Would you..." Neuvillette's words get cut short as he clears his throat, hesitant.
"Hmm?"
"Perhaps, would you like to dance?"
You quirk an eyebrow at the question, noting the bashful tone of his voice, while he watched your eyes reflect the constellations in the sky.
He extends his hand towards you, awaiting your answer.
"Of course," you place your hand in his, your smile only growing wider.
On the Rainbow Rose lined path, you dance. To the watchful gaze of the patrolling melusine, the sight was one worthy of being captured by a kamera.
Under the moon, surrounded by rainbow roses and the faint whispering of music in the breeze, you danced with him.
Smiles and laughter, music and dance, the moon floated high above, and two opera tickets laid forgotten in your pocket.

I thought it would be fun to compile all the tutu character themes into one post, especially for anyone who’s not as familiar with the music! I’m almost certainly missing some so please send in suggestions and I’ll add them to the post.
Princess Tutu Character Themes:
Duck:
Tchaikovsky’s nutcracker overture. Fun fact she sings her own theme in the first episode!
youtube
Princess Tutu:
Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of the Flowers
youtube
Fakir:
Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture (mainly when he’s either in a fight or antagonizing mytho or Duck):
youtube
Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade: the Story of the Kalendar Prince (the main theme of episode 12, which plays as he and Duck search for Mytho. It’s also used in season 2 mainly in reference to his writing).
youtube
Princess Kraehe:
Erik Satie’s Gymnopedie No. 1 (plays most notably when she first transforms into Kraehe in episode 7)
youtube
Mytho:
Tchaikovsky’s Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (plays during our very first introduction to mytho! If you see him dancing a solo 99% of the time it’s going to be to this song)
youtube
Richard Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll
youtube
Richard Wagner’s Siegfried’s Funeral March (Raven Mytho’s Theme)
youtube
Drosselmeyer:
Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker March, often altered to sound more foreboding
youtube
Miss Edel:
Delibes’ Coppelia: Musique des Automates. Notable because it all but spoils that she’s a puppet for those familiar with the plot of Coppelia

just learned u had a Dancer!Yuu and want to know abt them more!!
Well I have some notes.
Like other Yuus they have an unofficial-official name. Anastasia/Alexander
They were originally a ballet dancer who went to a performance arts school before ending up in Twisted Wonderland.
They don't have many memories about the event but it involved a mirror in an old room with stage props.
They like ducks
They dance to elevate stress.
Have a tendency to just go where the wind takes them.
Their favorite ballet is Coppelia and they have always wanted to play Swanilda and do the Doll's Waltz.
They can dance more then ballet but they struggle with modern dance like hip-hop. Be patient they are trying.
They have a fondness for 50's Era dance. They love a good rockabilly or sockhop. They love a good swing dance too. But they need a partner.
They got bored of tango. No partner was exciting enough.
They enjoy experimenting and are learning alot about dance improv.
What better then a night out tearing up the town and grabbing a bite to eat.
They love a day at the lake feeding ducks and listening to music.

the wanderer and furina story was beautiful!! i loved the little foreshadowing to dancing a waltz alone, which i read was furina dancing at the stage as the hydro archon all alone—but she’s not alone because scaramouche is there as well.
it was genius to have scaramouche see the funeral of furina and furina the funeral of scaramouche. i’m not sure if this is reading too much but the front part of the story hints at neuvilette controlling the rain, and the fact that it rained at the end… does it allude to how neuvilette was mourning for the death of what furina was (which was her act and the furina that he grew to know) but in the midst of people mourning the loss furina is freed and found a partner who understands her turmoil and they sort of relish in that fact they aren’t alone??? either way, i loved it and i would love more author’s commentary!
i don’t think this is particularly ooc too. — @apologems
for people who missed the context it is here
ehe (venti voice) thank you!!!!! wahhh this is such a sweet note 🥺 also i'm so glad you picked up on all the things i added in by chance and intentionally FDSKFJKDSJF it's good to hear they were expressed clearly enough!!
tbh both the waltz and the rain were kinda spontaneous BUT im very happy they both had their intended effects. i was thinking about that exact scene when writing the waltz line—it's such a good cutscene from the archon quest i had to refer to it. lowkey was also thinking about coppelia and coppelius, especially since they're a pair of dancers, based off a play about an almost human mechanical doll and the creator who fell in love with her... yeah. it's not 1:1 but the pieces are there. also yeah her and scara! it worked nicely as his intro, but I also wanted to show furina as someone who's suddenly alone, but slowly trying to live for herself.. in an empty ballroom there's nobody for whom to put on an act, and now she can dance only if she feels like it. she can also teach scara how to formal dance! and maybe his puppet body can finally control its own strings </3 also im sure she's been to some kind of fancy ballroom party before with neuvillette and maybe this just reminds her of the artificial foreignness that's estranged them now. oh furina my dear actress on the stage
i was so close to cutting out the rain at the end but i was like nooooooo i need the weather symbolism (incredible archetype btw i love weather), and furiously tried to figure out a good ending sentence. you basically got all my thoughts LOL i wanted people to make the connection between rain as rebirth and the washing away of old sins, but also like. the sky is crying. it is dreary and miserable and they're soaked to the bone but the last string connecting their present to their past has finally been dissolved, and now... maybe they're free to move on to sunnier days.. etc,,, i didn't think too much about neuvillette's role in this but what you said 100% works <3 im still unsure what he thinks of furina tbh so i didn't really elaborate DSKFJKSDJ. last thought about the rain: they both have a thing about crying, but the only thing wet during that scene was the rain—i guess i was trying to show like, neither furina nor scara think that this death is a bad thing, or maybe all the tears they could've shed already dried up. it's only other people who mourn for their pasts.
also i forgot but the fire was supposed to be a lowkey callback to when scara burned the house down when his unnamed child died. the entire theme i was kinda going for was like. a farewell to your past; no matter what happened before, maybe you can finally put it down, and leave it behind, live today unrestrained by yesterday's pain, etc.
if i was an animator this would've gone so much better because the scenes were so clear cut in my head. ideally the flow is like this: furina says she can see kabukimono. wanderer's face whitens in a flash, until he's the color of a sheet of paper and it's actually scary to look at. he recovers, says the line about his and furina's funeral. he steps closer to her and turns so that they're directly facing each other, faces like two feet apart. it cuts to a closeup of their faces, panning from furina's, neutral/apprehensive, to wanderer's, eyebrows furrowed, face set (entirely self centered anger that this, of all things, is fate's last laugh at him). and idk the light changes and makes his eyes glassier and more reflective, and furina sees her old self—the camera gets sucked into her reflection (like you're diving into the void) as her face warps in a terrible twisted way, maybe some blood idk; the camera zooms back out, furina breathes heavily, looking disturbed and a bit sick. wanderer is slightly off to the side and his face is blurred (the focus is on furina's slightly horrified face) but he's watching her closely and carefully, but without judgement. wanderer holds out his hand, and furina takes it, and immediately the hiss of the fire starts. its like one of those gigantic funeral pyres, wild and leaping and intense, and she watches the pile of kabukimono doll get smaller and smaller. somewhere in the middle a blackened chunk of something gets spit out (his heart), lands at their feet. the most important part is that after the fire burns itself out, the rain starts immediately. sudden downpour, very heavy etc. the viewer should feel a wave of Closure and Relief after the intensity of the burning. a slow waltz starts playing in the background, low, smooth, and very quiet. they just stand there, and the camera zooms out until they're just two dark blue/black smears against a blurry gray backdrop. end scene
also about the characterization: that's good I always wonder whether I'm leaning too much into my own writing voice instead of sticking closer to the character's canonical language register and mannerisms haha

The lower part of your body becomes bound to an unseeable fire. Until your begging finds value, you’ll dance in a hot hell forever.
The Dancing Plague
There was once a little girl, in a little village, who was born with no feet. Despite her obvious disability, she still dreamed of dancing in front of a large crowd, with flowers being thrown at her graceful figure. The other ballerinas in her class, however, thought differently.
“All you do is sit on your wheelchair without any legs to stand on, and that’s where you’ll be until you die of old age!” They’d pick on her without fail. “Hurry and give up, us real ballerinas need no stumpy girls like you!”
Brought to tears by their cruelty, the little girl fled the studio and sped into the woods. She wheeled on the mossy grass for hours and hours, losing herself in both the trees and her tears. Suddenly, the girl heard a tune like no other, and drew closer to the sound. That is when she saw it—a fairy dance.
Countless humans danced hand-in-hand, even as their feet were dyed red. But the faeries, oh the faeries, how gracefully they danced! Like flowers in the wind, they scattered and reformed and flew so freely!
It was only until one noticed the child that the music stopped, and they gathered around. And yet, the girl was not met with hostility.
“What is a mortal so young doing in the woods?” One asked.
She cried out her woes to the faeries, describing how terrible the other students were, and how she just wanted to learn to dance. The fae, finding sympathy for the little human, quickly thought up a way to fix her problem.
They lifted her from her wheelchair and flew her to their lair. On the first night of her visit, the ballerina was granted a pair of silver slippers, able to lift her off the ground. She cried and cried that night, so joyous to finally dance.
On the second night, the faeries taught her their peculiar dance. Like the humans she saw in the circle, she twirled and jumped without end. But unlike their tired bodies, she proved herself relentless, refusing to stop unless her steps matched her teachers’. Soon enough, she was dancing just as gracefully.
On the 3rd and final night, the fae taught her a magic spell. Still being the tricksters they always were, they giggled and snickered as they whispered an incantation in her ear.
“But why do I need such a spell?” She curiously asked.
“To punish those naughty children,” one fae answered, “and to give you a sense of retribution.”
So on that night, when she left the forest and came back to the dancehall, she whispered out that little spell, cursing her classmates to a fiery pain. Without any dancers to take their spot, the adults dragged the little girl from her seat and onto the stage.
There, with her classmates wailing backstage as their feet burned the same bloody red as the humans in the forest, the little girl danced. Her iron shoes glistened on the stage, as the crowd stared in awe at her beautiful performance. And even past the thundering applause of the audience, and flowers being thrown to her feet, the little girl could only think of one thing—
That her dream finally came true.
❤️‍🔥…
“Do you have any final thoughts, Miss Waltz?” The reporter pointed the mic in her face, grinning.
The child thought, before looking up to her horrified mother, who had built her metal shoes herself. Then, to her sickened upperclassmen, who taught her the magic of vengeance and the dance that wowed the crowd.
Smiling, she turned back to the camera, concerned parents rushing behind her.
“I’d just like to thank everyone who supported me, and helped me achieve my dream! This really feels like a fairytale come true!”

LOCATION: a dance studio somewhere STATUS: closed / ophelia @andante--andante

achilles somehow ends up at this dance studio pretty regularly. he walks up and down the halls just to feel something. he never stays too long, though-- he knows now that he no longer has the COOKIE-CUTTER dance look, he's just some guy roaming a dance studio ( which would, reasonably, send off some alarm bells ). he's about to head out until he hears music from the oh-so recognizable COPPELIA. the waltz of the hours, specifically. he stops in his tracks and is mentally telling himself to leave. he has no reason to stick around. still, he can't help but feel a bit of nostalgia and comfort for the familiar tune. as he approaches the door where the music is coming from, it suddenly stops. another sign for him to get the fuck out of there. still, his curiosity gets the better of him and he cracks the door and peaks in. "you know, i bet you could get more air on that grand jete." the second it leaves his mouth, he wishes he could take it back.

I finally watched and the waltz goes on for the first time I’ve been putting it off so long. And it was gorgeous! Not my top favorites or anything but god they know how to waltz. Such grace. What are your thoughts on it? I watched a few different versions and yeah they did struggle here and there. I thought the commentary for the worlds version was a tad bit harsh? But idk I for sure don’t have the best technical eye.
Yeah I really like that program. I think it’s so sweet. They changed it quite a bit between the GP series and the second half of the season. I really liked the qwerky touches of the first version with the fixed feet and playful moments between them- it was still a very traditional kind of dance but those little choreographic/story touches made it interesting.
They’ve aluded to this being quite a rough season with small injuries not to mention M + I splitting up so now both TS and DW had to share Marina as their main coach. I’m not to assume what specific difficulties all that brought them in their actual performances but yes it was clear this wasn’t their most ‘effortless’ season.
Like you I have hardly any technical knowledge but I do feel they were judged extremely harshly in general that season and were not rewarded for their creativity, innovation, along with the running theme of their career their superior chemistry not being accounted for in the performance score. As for the twizzles at worlds I’ve seen MUCH WORSE twizzle mishaps judged kinder (ie pc SD in 2018 SOMEHOW got lvl 4 which I mean if that’s not an indication of it being fixed idk what is!) I mean TS’s wasn’t even a mishap they only opened slightly off time to each other so not that I understand the scoring and requirements for various levels (and I haven’t looked at the protocols) but I would only say should be a small quality deduction.
My favourite overall performance of Waltz was 4CC it was by far the most effortless, joyous, they were so happy at the end. It was such a shame with what happened in the FD bc they were leading after the SD and I felt up until the mishap Carmen was going so well they should’ve won. I also really like the nationals skate and although I’m often bothered by Tracey Wilson’s commentary, when she starts saying ‘look what they’re doing..(I don’t remember what she says exactly) but what she’s getting at is like when I say that TS are just so much better than everyone else and a lot of it is these teeny tiny things like unison and connection and being true dancers that most people just don’t appreciate enough when the rest of us say that they are the best ever.
I actually started watching the SD from Worlds 2013 (it’s on YT with Czech commentary) and in regards to the Polka portion TS have so much more bounce, body movement, their edges are superior, elongation- syncopation and finishing their lines then speeding up on the quicker steps (while being perfectly in the music). The other teams I’ve watched so far are very bland, everything is on one level both physically and musically. TS always manage to make the compulsory portions highlights in their programs and make them memorable moments rather than boring steps everyone has to do.
I think this program was a great example of it not necessarily being their most memorable program or the one you think of when you say ‘VirtueMoir’ but at the same time it is perfectly them because of the way they dance- waltz can be considered quite boring but they really truly dance it- I love, I think it’s someone from BESP says it’s like a mini FD because you forget about the elements and just enjoy them dancing. It was a great character piece for them- not as obvious characters as say Carmen or MR but they really took you to that village setting- like the first act of Coppelia or Giselle. It also was another reason to highlight their versatility in their body of work, obviously they had no choice they had to do a waltz/polka but when you line all their programs up it’s not like they had done a very similar dance before of after it.

hey!! sorry to bother you but, in regards to your princess tutu merch of the soundtrack, is the music box version of the waltz of the hours from coppelia included? if so, would you be willing to upload it somewhere? ;; i've been searching for it for ages so i have to leap on this opportunity. please feel free to ignore this!!!
Not a bother at all Anon! It's Track 18 on the first disc, and is referred to as "School Clock" in the included booklet. Here's the WAV file on Google Drive; it should be available for anyone with a link to view and download. Let me know if it's being troublesome.
And just for funsies, here's "Edel's Organ", Track 16 on that same disc.
Feel free to compress, edit, upload them wherever, etc etc.

Summary: It really has been almost a whole year since Hoseok had last seen the short brunette, when he had waltzed into his life for the first time and made a lasting impression by stealing his lead role like it was nothing, as if Hoseok hadn’t spent the better part of his life working hard to get to that point. But no, some freshman with a fat ass could simply fouetté his way right into the spot he earned: principal ballerina. And, not to mention that the only reason he even got that stupid role in the first place is because of Hoseok’s massive heart and willingness to help someone in need, leading to countless hours spent alone together in the studio.
Jimin somehow managed to simultaneously steal Hoseok’s role and fool everyone into thinking he is some perfectly precious angel. He even ended the year taking his final bows on the arm of Kim Namjoon, kissing him passionately as the final curtain closed on Coppelia and their summer. Talk about unprofessional.
