Natal planets, degrees & asteroids.

Jupiter-Saturn people usually have big teeth. BTS Jungkook has Jupiter sextile his Saturn.

9°, 19°, 29°: all these degrees may have the tendency to be impulsive, as in going for all-or-nothing situations. the difference between 3 degrees are that the 9° has an impulsive nature, as in they value freedom and like spontaneity. 19° are willing to sacrifice stability for their ego/ their own satisfaction (e.g. to prove themselves). 29° people are willing to sacrifice their emotional needs, or the community for their all-or-nothings.

Sun-North Node: A relationship that’s meant to make each other shine. North Node person helps the Sun to recognize their worth, while Sun person teaches NN person to follow their own path.

parallels & contraparallels

A planet’s declination is its position in northern or southern relation to the celestial equator. Declinations add another layer to the natal chart, beyond the Zodiac wheel / ecliptic, and come with their own two major aspects: the parallel and contraparallel. These aspects are virtually identical to conjunctions and oppositions both in energy and calculation, except they exist on the north-south axis (above/below celestial equator) instead of along the east-west (Zodiac).

A contraparallel takes place between two planets whose declinations are at approximately the same degree on different sides, one north and one south, whereas a parallel takes place between two planets whose declinations are at approximately the same degree on the same side, both north or both south.

To locate the parallels & contraparallels in your natal chart, you can use the chart calculator on astro-charts.com (select “Show Declinations” in settings).

The reason a 1° orb is used for declination aspects is because they present themselves on a much more limited plane than Zodiac aspects; the former only has a range of 47 degrees, while the latter has 360 degrees, where orbs of up to 10° are realistic and usually necessary. Contra/parallels are naturally extremely potent, within such a small field of variation, so in order to gain any meaningful insight from their presence, it’s crucial to keep the standards high. If the orb was increased to, say, 3°, you may find that every planet is in a contra/parallel in one’s natal chart. It’s obvious how & why that becomes inapplicable.

Most astrologers interpret parallels & contraparallels in the same way you would a conjunction or opposition aspect between planets in the Zodiac, and that’s valid, but it’s important to note that the meaning of conjunctions & oppositions is based in the relationships between archetypes, while contra/parallels are free of Zodiac influence -- they focus completely on the planets themselves. Because of this, you may have (for example) a contraparallel in a pair of signs which border each other in the Zodiac. It’s important to synthesize your declination aspects with the rest of your natal chart to offer context for their contact. In addition, it’s also helpful to recognize that when separate from the Zodiac (which represents the 12 fundamental manifestations of human consciousness), the planets aren’t as personal; they become less like forces of personality and more like forces of circumstance or reality. For this reason, sometimes parallels & contraparallels are not expressed as intensely in a person as they are in their life story / the themes of their experience (though they still may have strong impact on either).

Mercury Pluto Aspects

Taken from the Late, Great and disabled Astro Arena, not my original work but impossible to find on the web these days. If anyone knows if the former owner of the Astro Arena blog has a Tumblr or link I can give credit to please DM or comment. I haven't been able to access their writing in many years and any information on where to access it would be appreciated.

I wish to look in detail at the Mercury – Pluto combination, which in keeping with allapplications of Pluto evinces a range of difficult effects, most especially because until the behaviour is recognised and reconciled it creates a compulsion, which will be especially uncomfortable for the subject. Inevitably this difficulty and discomfort will affect important relationships too and ultimately – as with any Plutonic contact – the aspect must be transformed to prevent it becoming ultimately destructive. Aspects to Pluto from any of the personal planets are profoundly problematical, but as ever, the first and most effective step on the path to cure must be to recognise the behaviours and take responsibility for them. Owning up to our Plutonic compulsions, shining light upon them – uncomfortable though it may be – is often powerfully effective in transforming them: indeed, in many cases an “instant cure” is entirely possible.

Mercury Pluto, in keeping with other applications of Lord Hades deals with hidden, sinister and subtle aspects of communication and of course the mental processes that underpin them. Indeed, the entire arena of interpersonal communications is fraught for Mercury – Pluto, usually because of an early childhood that is characterised by difficulty, cruelty or power-games in communication matters. We shall explore these causal themes in the ensuing discussion, but first I would like to examine some of the specific effects.

Mercury Pluto is the aspectual manifestation of Mercury in Scorpio, which is renowned for being either verbose or rather monosyllabic. This implies nothing about the underlying mindset or facility for language or mental processing, but only the willingness or unwillingness to reveal the self. This is reflected perfectly by the aspects between Mercury and Pluto, most especially with the conjunction and to a lesser extent the easy aspects there is a loquacious response to the contact: these people talk, often exhaustively although without necessarily revealing much of substance about themselves. Conversely, those with hard aspects are not likely to give too much away, or at the very least – while they may talk freely – they are never comfortable talking about themselves in a way that is particularly incisive or revealing. In either case it boils down to a profound fear of communication and a sense that somehow words can cause pain and lasting damage. With the easy aspects there is not the same urgent sense of danger, but nevertheless there is a need to control the conversation which is engendered by the same mindset as the individual with the hard aspects. Often the Pluto conjunct Mercury person will talk exhaustively and exhaustingly, and the ‘listener’ will often walk away feeling tired and somewhat overwhelmed by the experience. In any case, the process of communicating, with easy aspects or hard, is uncomfortable for both parties involved in the dialogue.

It should be remembered that any aspect between Mercury and Pluto will evince one or other of these effects. For my own part I am extremely familiar with Mercury – Pluto as I have Mercury in Scorpio, peregrine and semi-square, contraparallel and in mutual reception with Pluto, I can speak from experience as to its effects.

With the hard aspects especially, the sense of difficulty with communication creates an observer rather than a participator. Here is somebody who is aware of every subtle nuance of communication and is typically deeply distrustful of words. Usually it will be found that Mercury – Pluto grew up in an environment where truth was taboo, and one or both parents will have been the murky wellspring from which this skewed sense of things was first experienced. It is also possible that an older brother or sister was the cause of the problem or some difficult secret in connection with that sibling or one that haunted and tainted the family environment in some way might be found to be in evidence. On a fairly simplistic level, the Mercury Pluto child will have learned early on that words were not to be trusted at face value. The resentful and controlling mother who would tell her child: “of course I love you darling, more than anything in the world” while evincing no genuine or believable warmth is one good example of this effect. There is then a dichotomy here, between words and more subtle forms of non-verbal communication that have poisoned the child’s perceptions. Body language, ever a reliable indicator of true feelings, is therefore valued much more highly than any simple verbal statement, but this again is fraught with difficulty. The Mercury – Pluto person is formed in such away that they are innately suspicious of any communication: this is very often sensed by others, who feel that they are “on the spot” somehow, and their body language will betray their discomfort which will in turn set off the ultra-sensitive radar of Mercury – Pluto. This can create a cycle of suspicion, distrust and interrogation that is especially exhausting within close relationships later in life.

Therefore, the Mercury – Pluto type is often handicapped in life by being too perceptive and it is through this mechanism of not being able to take things at face value and exhausting oneself and others by continually investigating the most subtle of interactions that the damage is done.

The child learned to do things this way because of the unreliability of close family communications. Language may have been used to damaging effect by a parent or sibling, secrets were kept and wielded almost politically within the early home environment and this actually characterises very neatly the quality of this combination for the afflicted. Words cannot ever mean what they say, there is usually a hidden agenda, an ulterior motive, a secret being kept: indeed this is exactly the case in the childhood home, but the problem is that the child grows up and takes this same understanding out into the world and applies it indiscriminately to every relationship in the whole of life from then on.

But there is a more profound realisation here too. It is not actually so much what is said that concerns Mercury – Pluto, but indeed what is not said. This creates an anxiety about communication that is really very disturbing: this is why the native talks so much (in the conjunction or easy aspect), not because they have anything much to say, but because they are terrified of the silence and what it might mean. The child will no doubt have been controlled with lack of communication as much as the use of ugly, brutal or cruel language. A parent or sibling may have ostracised or ignored the child as a means of creating an emotional anxiety, or made vague, open-ended threats which would have created a sense of foreboding and impending anguish all with the express purpose of eliciting control.

There is too a legacy of damaging secrets in the early home which would have reinforced this sense of anguish, very often there are half-brothers or sisters who are kept secret or in some other way separate from the rest of the family. There may also have been other secrets relating to siblings which, when revealed created anxiety in the native: I have seen cases where a more favoured sibling is secretly given money or some other treat or benefit by a parent unbeknown to the Mercury Pluto child and when this is learned the assurances by the parent that they love their children equally become hollow and suspect.

At its best, and transformed, Mercury Pluto makes an excellent researcher and psychologist. Able to delve into the deeper and more innate realities of interaction they can often see cause where others cannot; they see the subtle motivations that are in fact pre-cognitive, and in a very real sense they do not need the words to arrive at an understanding. In fact, the Mercury – Pluto person can often be frustrated at the depth of their understanding because words are ultimately a rather blunt instrument when trying to convey the profundity of their insight and this creates another signature of the contact of course: Mercury Pluto despises the superficial and capricious. Intense and insightful, but with a need to avoid obsessing, Mercury Pluto is a natural researcher and student of human nature and motivation, they make excellent counsellors and – once the aspect is transformed – powerful and persuasive communicators who are able to see into the heart of any matter.

Signs of A Good Astrologer

1. They Understand Multiple Systems

Now, not every astrologer will use them. Some are more comfortable with Vedic, others Placidus, some Quadrant or Draconic and a few Horary or Equal House. Regardless, they’ll be able to entertain all kinds even if they subscribe to another/one in particular.

2. They Can Read A Natal Wheel

I know this may sound like a given but some folks who get into astrology just use a calculator or generator to pull up aspects and chart patterns. They won’t actually look at the wheel and see where planets land or how to work their way around the circle. They may not understand the red lines from the green or blue. It’s important to not only rely on a calculator but understand the wheel as a blueprint. You can catch many things and see many aspect patters [T-Squares, Grand Trines Yods, etc] with the naked eye. The natal wheel is the birth chart in its raw form. Anyone studying anything must begin with the basics. The wheel, fresh-faced is the best place to start. From there, the 101′s of Astrology become easier to grasp

3. They Do Not Rely On One App Alone

The sign of any good astrologer [or anyone studying anything] is citing multiple sources and cross-referencing them. As we all know, technology, though an excellent modern tool is imperfect. It too can have glitches and miscalculations. For that reason, it’s important as an astrologer to at least have 2 to 3 calculators [including their own brain and hands] to break things down. This gives a better-rounded view of how charts work and can even introduce you to aspects you didn’t realize existed [parallels, contraparallels, etc]. Cafe Astrology is good for beginners but does not show you minor aspects [Quincunxes, sesquiquadrates, noviles or bi-quintiles] or chart patters like Astro.com does. Co-Star is good for millennials who are just starting and does a fantastic job of giving you a daily horoscope as well, but can really f-things up house-wise. [They are based out of NY and I rejected a job offer from them because of it.] Alabe.com is Ok but they make you input longitude and latitude which not everyone has access to and sometimes it just won’t take. Still, without cross-referencing you’d never know. Cast your net wide so you can get the best return.

4. They Understand Natal, Synastry, and Composite

While it’s important to understand how someone’s natal chart functions and relates to them as a person, or placements in general, we as Human Beings are social creatures. We operate in tribal, familial and unit systems. As a result, it’s important to know how people operate with each other as well as individually. A good astrologer will understand Synastry [aspects/energy between people] and Composite [midpoint and Davison, which is the Astrology of the relationship itself] in addition to Natal patterns.

5. They Have a Good Grasp of History

Mercury, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto? All names of Ancient God’s. When we understand the origins of these Planetary names, we can have a good grasp as to why they’re attributed to said planets/points. Modern planets are named after Roman Gods who all have ties to ancient Greece/India as well. When you understand the myths and stories you’ll already have a head start on why Venus is named after Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, since Venus rules love and what we appreciate. Mars [Aries] is the planet of war, sexual drive and action as is the Hellenistic/Roman God. Lilith is Adam’s first wife in Hebrew tradition and her hypothetical point in astrology embodies her traits. Make sense? Even the asteroids are named after minor gods and characters in the classics. Studying up on these can really help with understanding the planets as a whole.

6. They are Patient

Let’s face it, understanding astrology is not something that comes over night. It is also quite difficult to find in-depth classes for the study. Because of this, it is important for you or any astrologer for that matter to take their time. Don’t rush. Some can spend a lifetime studying and never know all there is to know. I myself learn new things everyday that I share with you all on here. Take your time. Be patient. Astrology is deeply metaphorical, philosophical as well as mathematical. Some may have a stronger grasp with one than another [as a former humanities major, I personally detest math but I’ll be damned if that makes me give up- I keep trying]. A good astrologer will give themselves and others grace to really grasp the concepts they are learning and know that it is not a 24 our crash course.

Red Flags

With the good comes the bad/things many can work on to improve. The sign of an astrologer not living up to their full potential are:

1. Astrologers That Only Say Good Things About Your Sign

Let’s face it, astrology is not a study for those who like to sugar coat. The reality of life is that everything has a dark and light side. Just like every zodiac sign has positive and shadow traits. [Though I am a Scorpio and very loyal to my sign and people, I feel it necessary if I am to help others, to make them understand the under-developed traits of Plutonians/Martians in general.] You gotta keep it real. It is important to be honest. That is the only way to get to your sign’s final form. To understand what traits you/your sister signs/cousins are prone to.

2. Astrologers That Point Out Troublesome Placements Without Telling You How to Remedy Them

Big No-No. Astrology is about activism and altruism. It, by nature, is a study quite akin to Psychology. One of my heroes, Liz Greene actually based many of her astrological studies off Jungian psychology. And what is astrology if not psychology with a cosmic twist? ;). A good therapist will isolate your issues but the point in hiring them is for them to aid you in fixing the issues you’re struggling with, no? Same with a good astrologer. They’ll tell you when something is an issue, yes, but they will also give tips and pointers on how to handle the energy or steps to reconciling the energy within your self and others. If someone is simply pointing out that you’re a Capricorn with a Taurus moon and therefore, have pessimistic tendencies, but don’t tell you how to balance that, then they are not doing the best job they can for you.

3. Astrologers That Demonize a Single Sign or Placement

Or astrologers who are inherently judgmental about your tendencies [many Boomers unfortunately I’ve seen have a habit with this *sigh*]. This is also a No-No. Look, we are all entitled to our own opinion and there is dark and light in each astrological placement. But someone who says “all Pisceans are whiny-crybabies”, “all Virgos are obsessive compulsive critics” or “All Leos are egotistical cheaters” is not someone you want to take very seriously, lol. Sounds like these people got hurt by one of the above and as a result, have a war on everyone with these placements. By proxy, they use astrology to let out their frustrations which is a very twisted way to go about things. We all vibe with one sign or placement more than another of course, but even your fav may have a Mars placement in a sign you though you hated. It is best to be impartial and look at ALL aspects and ALL signs with fairness. The point of astrology is to understand. Once you understand someone or something it’s quite hard to be judgmental [if you’re really going about it with an open-mind]. Just like traveling or spending time with others different from you makes it impossible to be a racist or a bigot. Why? Because you took the time to really connect.

Anyone can become an astrologer with the right discipline and a good amount of grit and curiosity. I think you have the right attitude on how to go about it ;). Here are a few helpful resources to get you started:

sorry to bother u, could u explain why persona charts aren’t real?? i tried to answer the question myself by googling but i couldnt rly find anything.

Hey thanks for being so polite. You can ask me anytime. I appreciate you trying to google as well. I just reblogged some stuff that kind of cinches in how minute this part of astrology is: To the degree many long-term astrologists don't use or know what this is. I swear I had a post of a twitter thread speaking of the origins of persona charts being very vague and overall like an accident that barely means anything. But if that doesn't mean anything to you, that's fine. Use it as you like I'm not the police by any means.

I will put the astro.com def for you here, so I can just talk about my opinion after: "We can treat this horoscope like a normal horoscope, but we have to keep in mind that it is not our chart, but the chart of this one person within us. We have to take care not to take this horoscope for the whole. Persona charts are horoscopes of independent personalities - we cannot stress this often enough. Personalities inside me."

What are you chasing after in astrology? I like to believe it's a greater understanding of yourself. Seeing yourself and your struggles written somewhere so you can feel like everything I've felt in my life has a language and words for it. Granted, perhaps people can see that in their persona chart. But as the definition states, persona charts are Not Our chart. It's a piece of a brick that could mean anything and it's "in you" or whatever it means. I personally don't believe it.

Astrology has the greatest and deepest meaning through the interplay of your entire chart. We all subscribe to some sort of cookbook astrology bc you can't read everyone's details for them online for free. However, everyone who has been studying astrology is still working out how all of these positions, aspects, orbs etc play with each other to make the unique experience of Your life. It's not about the ingredients. Its about the chemistry between them that make you.

In any other field, like psychology or medicine, your doctor will tell you that one symptom is not going to mean you have this. You need 3 or more symptoms and how they react with each other to mean something significant. Perhaps it's my ignorance to be fair, but what are the persona charts telling you?

One persona chart is a small factor in an overarching field of astrology that is entirely based on your unique interplay of everything having in your chart. And there is so many factors in astrology recognized already that you have to consider: orbs, modalities, aspects, houses, interceptions, detriments, contraparallels , etc. But they all have to do with reading the same chart, reading the important connections that see you. Why are you reading a chart of one part one factor of your chart? Just don't lose yourself in a tree to forget the ecosystem of the forest. Lawl is that how the saying goes. Anyways, yea I just don't subscribe to it.

There's also a part of me that thinks persona charts are ego based. Wild thought.

i have moon square & contraparallel uranus both at 0°, is there really no reconcile between these two energies..? i feel like these two cause a large tear inside of me, but i’m not sure if i can ever fix this especially taking uranus into consideration

Yknow, this is a really tough one. You’ll figure it out in your own time though. I can’t really give you an answer regarding Uranus though because the solution to its “problems” will always be highly individual for the native. Something that I’m going to point out though is that since Uranus has ingressed into Taurus you’re going to be given a unique out due to the exacerbation of the aspect. The coming years are likely to be quite uncomfortable for you unless you can learn to embrace change and instability. Astrologer Kelly Surtees says that under a heavy Uranian transit you should be wary of making plans too far into the future. Instead think in increments of the next few months and leave yourself wiggle room rather than boxing yourself into a corner at any point. At the very least this transit will shine a big ol’ light on what you need to do in order to deal with this stuff long term… whether or not you pay attention and integrate those lessons though.. that’s up to you.

HEARTBREAK TRANSITS

Misunderstandings abound during Heartbreak Transits.

Transits refer to transiting planets which are the planets in the sky at any moment and how they relate to the position of the planets when you were born.

There are two types of Heartbreak Transits.

One involves Saturn and one involves Venus. Both involve Chiron.

Chiron is the planet of committed relationships, emotional ties, reputation, publicity and charisma. The Magi Society says it represents marriage and career.

Some transits are easy. The 120 degree (trines) and 60 degree (sextiles) angles made from planets in the sky to your natal planets are transits that enhance your natural abilities. The time period when these transits prevail are as comfortable as sitting in front of the TV in your favorite rocking chair.

Difficult transits however show a conflict of some kind.

Difficult transits are angles formed by transiting planets to natal planets that jar you out of your comfort zone. Angles of 90 degrees (squares) or 180 degrees (oppositions) from a transiting planet to a natal planet are an experience similar to someone handing you a scalding hot, filled to the brim cup of tea as you are rocking back and forth in your favorite rocking chair.

It is necessary to possess a great deal of poise and balance to deal with difficult transits and avoid a painful mess.

SATURN AND CHIRON – THE HEARTBREAK TRANSIT

The best known Heartbreak Transit is a difficult transit from Saturn to natal Chiron, but could be a conflicted transit from the Saturn/Chiron midpoint to the natal Sun or Chiron. This represents a time when you can be viewed in the worst possible light by others and are in danger of making major mistakes.

This is also a time when past mistakes can be brought to light and cause problems that impact your reputation.

For instance, the telephone bill you forgot to pay may show up on your credit report.

Or the speeding ticket you received 10 months ago prevents you from getting the best rates on a new car insurance policy.

Since Chiron rules your ability to attract publicity and charm others you may be in the spotlight during these transits. You are more likely to be criticized and censured because every flaw is highlighted. If you break the rules you will receive attention but it won’t be good attention.

For example, if you exceed the speed limit on the highway you are more likely to receive a speeding ticket. Your ability to charm others is severely hampered so you won’t get off with a warning.

Your career or job can even be at risk if you do not fulfill commitments to the letter.

There is another danger with this type of Heartbreak Transit when emotional or romantic relationships are involved. During a Heartbreak Transit the people you love may treat you badly or only see your least attractive side. You may feel that the commitment and trust between you and another person has been compromised or vice versa. You run the risk of overreacting. If you slam the door on your way out that door is very likely to be locked when you try to return. You or a loved one may wish to break off a relationship when loyalty and commitment have been tested and proved to be lacking.

A very good relationship can survive, but it is important not to initiate anything of great importance or make drastic changes during a Heartbreak Transit.

If you break off a relationship under these conditions it will be much like Humpty Dumpty and all the king’s horses and all the king’s men will not be able to put it together again.

VENUS AND CHIRON - THE BREAKUP TRANSIT

The other type of Heartbreak Transit is a transit of Chiron that makes a difficult angle to natal Venus. This is called a “BREAKUP” transit because you or a loved one may wish to break off the relationship when it has been demonstrated that loyalty and commitment have been compromised.

The main issue of this difficult transit is one of trust.

Once trust is broken it might not be easily repaired.

This transit disturbs the harmony of social ties as well as emotional ties. It represents misunderstandings and the possibility that key relationships –both romantic and business -will experience severe ups and downs. A business partner or boss might find your impulsiveness or social activities to be less than desirable.

During this transit your social instincts are off base. Because you may be attracted to the latest fads and have a yen for excitement you might be drawn to people and things that are simply not good for you. Meanwhile, you are repelled by those people who are good for you.

You might even have the urge to break off a good relationship to try something new which will disrupt your life and create heartache.

During this Heartbreak Transit your reputation can suffer and your charisma is at a low point. This is very poor time to ask for a promotion, to change jobs, or to take major steps that could impact your career or reputation.

This transit is less likely to cause long term damage than the Saturn transit to natal Chiron, but it can shake up even the best relationship or career and cause a rift and adverse publcity.

A very good relationship can survive a Break Up Transit, but it is important not to initiate anything of great importance or make drastic changes.

WHAT TO DO

Throughout any Heartbreak Transit your charisma and ability to impress the public is at a low point. Take no risks with your heart or your money.

The best advice is to sit on your hands, avoid giving in to impulse and wait until this difficult transit is over before beginning anything new, making drastic decisions or significant changes.

WHICH OF THESE THINGS IS NOT LIKE THE OTHER?

It is necessary to differentiate a transit from Saturn TO natal Chiron from a transit of Chiron TO natal Saturn.

Likewise, there is a difference between a transit from Chiron TO natal Venus and the transit of Venus TO natal Chiron

These are not the same.

Transiting Venus makes angles and difficult transits TO natal Chiron several times in the course of a year. These last just a few days. For lack of a better term it can be called a “BAD HAIR DAY” transit as you are temporarily in a charisma downturn.

But the transit of Chiron TO natal Venus can take a month or more, therefore this is more significant.

In a similar way transiting Chiron may take a month to complete a transit TO natal Saturn. It is still problematic, but it is not a Heartbreak Transit. Saturn moves much more slowly so its transit TO natal Chiron, which is the Heartbreak Transit, can sometimes cover months.

Additionally a difficult transit from Saturn to ANY natal planet always has the potential to create serious problems and setbacks.

A transit from Chiron TO natal Saturn represents passing impulsiveness and attractions that can create additional burdens or point out a lack of self-discipline.

EXAMPLES

REPUTATION SMASHING SCANDAL: A public scandal for Illinois Democrat Governor Rod Blagojevich (born December 10, 1956) erupted when he was arrested on corruption charges on December 9, 2008. Transiting Chiron was square his natal Venus. Impeachment proceedings were begun within few days.

BAD TIME TO FILE FOR A DIVORCE : Super Model Christie Brinkley filed for a divorce from architect Peter Cook in early September 2006 while Saturn was contraparallel her natal Chiron. The divorce proceedings made headline news and the top ten lists of the nastiest celebrity divorce cases. Brinkley filed for divorce after she learned of Cook's affair with his 18-year-old assistant. The breakup got even nastier when Brinkley insisted on public coverage of the trial. It took until October 2008 for the divorce to become final.
