a s/o whos basically a huge girly girl. im talking about plushies, pink everything, skirts, heels, etc lmao.

Hi! Sorry for the wait! I decided to do the second request because I had more ideas for it ^^ Hope you like it! (Also, I didn't include everyone I usually do! Sometimes some people might be omitted if I can't think of anything. If anyone requests and absolutely wants a certain character included be sure to say so! I'll include most of them most of the time but yah ^^)

How the slashers would react to a girly S/O

Thomas:

- You're so cute 🥺 And pretty 👉👈 No he isn't staring! (If you catch him he'll be so embarrassed plz)

- Brings you flowers he finds around the fields and forest surrounding the house, thinking of you each time he sees them :')

- He really isn't one to care too much about style but he thinks you're so bright and pretty! Probably feels a little insecure about himself since he is all dirty and such but if you reassure him he'll be wrapped around your finger

(a random thought: Thomas would adore being doted over, complimented and praised. I will not elaborate at this time lol x_x)

Brahms:

- Thinks you’re so cute and will stare at you very obviously. Not really in a creepy way? (Okay kind of creepy) But he just thinks you’re pretty!

- Plushies? He will melt at how cute this is. Will also steal one, but he'll feel bad about later and will return it (hoping you don't notice it disappeared)

- Constantly admiring you and complimenting you. He adores your style and isn't shy to tell you so

Michael:

- Pretty indifferent to personal style and appearance in general, tbh. Still, he'd be a bit amused by your love of pink and cute things like plushies. You are the total opposite of him and he can't help but find it a little endearing

- Anytime he sees cute and pinks things while ~out and about~ he tilts his head and thinks of you. Contemplates taking it to you but...No

- Well, maybe. Sometimes. Only if he knows you won't know it was him that gave it, though. (Cue you finding a random plushie you've never seen before among your own and being like...Michael??? *door closes in distance as he quickly exits*)

Jason:

- Jason doesn’t care too much about style and such, you’re perfect no matter what! Still, he does find you totally adorable

- Like Thomas, he'll bring you things like flowers and such he finds that reminds him of you

- He adores how colorful your outfits can be and how bright you are. Your love for plushies is also extremely sweet to him :') (brings you a random forest animal one day since you seemingly like fluffy little animals and you're like um...Jason what am I supposed to do with this squirrel :/ and the squirrel is like lol yall why :/ but he MEANS WELL)

Bubba:

- Bubba adores it so much. You look like a doll, wearing all pink, skirts, heels, etc.

- Supportive and compliments you a lot. Notices anytime you wear something new and makes sure you know how pretty it is! If he sees something pretty and pink you're definitely getting it

- Also thinks your love of plushies is very cute. He's pretty crafty and will probably make you his own version if you like

Chop Top:

- Thinks you're cute! Gives weird compliments though but he means well

- He'll steal your clothes and plushies sometimes. He'll also give you new ones though, don't worry y/n :^)

- He would like any kind of personal expression as far as style goes. Whatever that means to each individual doesn't matter, but he would appreciate when people (you in this context) outwardly express themselves. In other words he likes your style a lot lol:)

Nubbins:

- No comment really, especially at first, but thinks you're cute. No, he isn't staring. No, he isn't blushing, either. sHH

- Gives you plushies that are slightly dirty that came from who knows where. He's very eager and happy about it so....accept and cherish them lol

- Cute and shy compliments. You're pretty 🥺 You're so bright and colorful :') You look like a flower <3 things like that (very supportive in other words, says sweet stuff like that every day)

Bo:

- Thinks you're cute, and he'll be sure to tell you often in his own way

- He is shameless when it comes to admiring you. He would no matter what your style was to be honest, looking you up and down while you watch and grinning if he gets you to blush

- Calls you surprisingly sweet monikers (honey, sweetheart, etc) constantly. So often, in fact, that when he actually uses your name you get surprised

Vincent:

- Subtle and probably doesn't seem to notice/pay much attention, visibly. He definitely does notice though, he's just more of the ~admires from afar~ type

- Makes you pretty art you inspired. Paintings, wax figurines, etc. all in pastel colors and of pretty things that reminded him of you

- He really thinks you're so pretty regardless of style though. Like of course he loves your style. But you could really wear a potato sack and he'd think you're the most beautiful person because he's romantic lol

Lester:

- Genuinely admires you. You're so pretty and bright! He'll stare when he thinks you aren't looking, shyly turning away if you catch him (or just smiling shamelessly because why wouldn't he stare??)

- Gives the cutest compliments. They're always a little awkward and badly phrased which is what makes them so endearing

- Your love for plushies really does him in. It's the cutest thing ever and he's very supportive, also loves them he learns. If he finds them while out and about he'll pick one up every now and then and melts at your reactions to them

Billy Lenz:

- Fascinated, he loves your bright colors and style. He's another one that doesn't really care about style and appearance and such, but he thinks you're very pretty:)

- He already calls you his piggy anyways but since you're so pretty and colorful, now he has a million other variations to call you

- Billy, like Brahms, would also steal one of your plushies. However, as Billy is a gremlin, he would not return it. Tough luck, Y/N :^)

Asa Emory (The Collector):

- He adores your style so much and isn’t shy to express it. You’re wearing heels/skirt? Asa will be staring shamelessly

- He thinks of you more than you'd think. Anytime he sees something that reminds him of you, he’ll surprise you with it, though in a subtle way, leaving it for you to find later (will wait around for you to mention something about it later expectantly)

- 100% will give you bug plushies with a deadly serious face. Don't laugh, Y/N 👀

Tiffany Valentine:

- She adores it! You have similar tastes but you're like the pastel, pink version and she thinks it's precious (this would be such a cute pair T-T)

- Shopping trips :') She gets mostly gothic and dark things and you're the opposite and it's *cute*

- Thinks you're the cutest and is sure to tell you often. She can be really sweet so her compliments reflect that

With your very detailed post on how Vanitas and Noe are being paired in a romantic light where do you think the author will take their relationship? Especially with her past history of writing tragedies.

Hi Anon, Mochijun be prepping us for a whole new world of pain~

In all seriousness though, I think back to Mochijun’s interview about wanting to try things she wasn’t able to in Pandora Hearts. There’s plenty of fans who feel it’s a disrespect to compare similarities/differences PH with VnC, but contrary to this opinion, I think it a really great way to analyze her work as an artist/writer.

Mochijun only had 3 official works that she’s done both art and story lines for (Crimson Shell, PH and now VnC), PH was her first series that became notable on its own for it’s twists and turns, complex character development and relations. She was a new mangaka at the time too I think.

PH definitely wasn’t perfect, but it was a huge stepping stone for her career and her answers to the VnC interview tells me that she‘s fearless in her approach to storytelling while being intentional in her message to us. As a previous reader of her’s, I appreciate the methods of her delivery to us. When I read PH, the characters‘s passions and emotions seems to be asserted onto us already before the end when the 100 year mystery was being unraveled. When we are given a backstory for the characters, I definitely feel like there could have been more to explain, but due to the plot’s course, allusions to the Alice in Wonderland theme and multitude of characters, I think MochiJun knew her limits and that it would have strayed far than the Aesop she wanted to tell us. (My personal pet peeve was Celia’s character no longer relevant lol.) While some characters we can feel sympathy for because we relate to their situation, it was very impersonal until they met their ‘end’. This is an ‘end’ that Mochijun has described as a ‘meaningful death’ after they gave a final monologue or met a personal goal described in the VnC interview.

In VnC, it’s much different. It’s told through one character’s eyes and journey, we can feel what Noe feels, and feels the emotions of the other characters when he reads their memories. His monologue gives us context if we can not empathize with those characters. There’s a slower burn in appreciating a character‘s complexity but Noe’s lack of insight without memory reading to what’s around him creates an intense curiosity on our end that pulls us in. Is it biased? Sure is, but because of Noe’s naivety, role as the narrator and the Watson, the audience is also going along the journey with him. (And harbouring his regrets too…) .

The part where I begin to answer your question sry for the long pre-text

While my shipping instincts hope for VanitasxNoe to be canon, realistically, I think Mochijun will use Vanitas as a very important lesson for Noe, rather than firmly establish a relationship for the fandom. Remember that Noe’s role in the story is that a of a student as well. That lesson ties in with Teacher’s request of him: ‘When you learn about the people around the Book of Vanitas (who they are, what they do), how will you then define the Book of Vanitas? That is what I’m curious about.’

I like to believe the lesson Noe learns from Vanitas is ‘What is love?’ and ‘What is salvation?’ To an extent, what Noe learns will be the theme of VnC that Mochijun wants to tell the audience.

What is love?

Let’s bring back Mochijun’s answers from the VnC interview:

1) Mentions that Vani and Noe aren’t ‘buddies/best friends’ (like Dante teases Vani on). They are so different but they attract each other and make up for what the other lacks. They have each other’s back that way. She’s also mentioned their relationship is inspired by Sherlock/Watson.

2) She wanted to write more action scenes, write more on how love is portrayed and ‘meaningless’ deaths.

This last part about love and death, I think will be a slow burn. There were lots of ships in PH, but the love was either already established or displayed in the lens of loyalty or devotion. Kind of like a ‘savior’ manner one character does for the other because they felt the other individual deserved/owed it and would burn the world for them or whatever.

This... I found very impersonal as a reader (this is not me down playing PH’s magnificence). However in VnC, Noe almost starts off on this note with Vanitas, but after seeing reflecting what happened at the Bal Masque, Noe changes his view with Teacher’s advice, to learn about the people around the Book of Vanitas, rather than deduct if it harms Vampires. Here, he starts to see Vanitas as a flawed human being and tries understand him, rather that how his ideals shape him as a potential savior.

This is the love I think Mochijun wants to show us this time. Love as in the process to feel and bond throughout a period of time, rather than being established on what you believe the other to be or think should be. In short, can you learn to accept the other person for who they are and the changes they go through?

Important to note that Noe is/was raised without distain between the races. He doesn’t understand what ‘love’ is either. Although I keep bringing up that dance of romance in Memoire 12 for shipping discussion, there’s the look he gives when Vanitas said he’s not interested in the kind of person that would fall for him. Noe says ‘I don’t understand him’ and ‘I wouldn’t understand the feeling in my chest until much much later.’ Since then until the most recent Memoire, Noe repeats that he doesn’t know much about Vanitas’ past or even still, but has since learned the kind of person he is. Because Noe tries to see people who they are without prejudice, we are there to emphasize with his version of who Vanitas is in that moment. Although he can’t word his feelings, we know his moments with Vanitas mean something and became something too, despite Vanitas’ coldness toward him.

This is a turning point where Noe is experiencing love’s tenderness and pain even though he doesn’t know what it is. Love as in, the process it takes you to understand what means to you and who can share that with you, whether that be as a dear friend that you can rely on, or a devoted romantic partner to walk through life with for life.

A side note, Noe’s current understanding of ‘love’ is his tenderness and warmth towards things and individuals he cares about (maybe to his favourite dessert tarte tatin too). He’s doesn’t have exposure to romance at all due to being isolated in a forest with the occasional friends and Louis/Domi.

What is salvation?

The second thing about love is salvation, and to extension... death.

I mentioned ‘salvation’, as this is the second thing in the manga Noe says he doesn’t understand. But, the difference between love and salvation is that this is something that he’s already defined in his own terms before realizing that it could mean something else for another individual. Salvation to him, and still seems to be, is to be saved from death. Death to him, is a miserable end as he couldn’t bring it upon himself to kill Louis, yet is haunted by his execution and disgust of being saved by Teacher.

Noe’s discussion of salvation is brought up 4 times as much as I can recall.

First time is when Noe confronts Vanitas at Bal Masque (Vanitas turns Catherine to dust at her request)

Then at Ruthven’s office when he says Loki (Luca’s bro) doesn’t need to be cured as it doesn’t guarantee salvation to him but doesn’t delve further so Noe doesn’t bring it up again.

After they escape Moreau’s lab, Noe wonders if Vanitas, the one who keeps talking about saving others, is the one who wishes to be saved the most. But doesn’t push it further.

Lastly in Gedauvan, where he tells Vanitas he doesn’t know what salvation may look like to Chloe + Jean-Jacques, but he doesn’t want them to leave without trying out to cure them first after Vanitas says Chloe became a curse bearer of her own will

Noe‘s naivety, curiousity and idealism is a weakness, but he’s stubborn and before he wants to be proven wrong or give up, he will try until the very end and convince others to go with him, unless it causes significant danger to others. As far the story goes, he uses this as a driving factor to accomplish goals of granting salvation for others with Vanitas to cure curse bearers. This is his challenge to learn about the different perceptions of a deeply held belief and how he will react to it.

Lessons of Love vs. Salvation - Will Noe have to choose one over the other or will someone make that decision for him?

Truthfully, given Mochijun’s twists and unexpected turns, I don’t know where their relationship will head. Sometimes, I will routinely make up theories and what not, but I thought I should enjoy her work and mindfully keep in check my shipping tendencies and hyper vigilant theories.

But this also makes me think about the themes as she said she wanted to write about. What pain did Noe had to experience himself to write a whole memoire about this journey (other than Teacher influencing him)?

I wonder if Noe will encounter an issue where someone’s concept of salvation is love? If this individual has such a twisted concept of both that is beyond Noe’s understanding, what will he do and how will he define it?

^^^^^WHICH, brings me to Vanitas! Remember these two iconic quotes about love and salvation he tells Noe in their personal discussions?

‘I’m not interested in the person who would fall for me.’

‘I’ll do as I please, use the methods I choose and no matter what you people want, I will save you Vampires without fail!’

They both have no idea what ‘love’ is, but have a personal firm concept of what ‘salvation’ is. Vanitas is more liberal in his view though, as in if someone chooses their own salvation, he’ll grant it to them (or if the situation calls for it, he give it to them in his own manner regardless what that person wants), where Noe will try until the end to prevent death.

Johann has also mentioned that Noe has never killed anyone and has deducted that he just uses violence to shut someone up when he tries to have a civil discussion and is the type to hold back before fatally injuring the other. So we know Noe is not the type to deliberately hurt/use anyone. He cannot stand the idea of suffering and will do anything to help, we see him use up time to have the civil discussions which annoys Vanitas, but it works (so far).

Throughout the series, Noe gives a bit of affection and emotional support (’love’) to Vanitas where he needs it. This is the ‘process’ of love as I discussed above. The ‘salvation’ he may provide Vanitas may be that death he tells us about at the end of that journey, and perhaps remember who he was as he writes out VnC for us with his status as an Archiviste.

On the other hand, Vanitas who has issues with love and a complicated relationship to salvation, is slowly warming up to Noe, but the audience only sees snippets of this care in small increments and this is given more push for context from other characters like Dante and perhaps Jeanne (who romance with Vani might actually be canon). So the process of ‘love’ given by Vanitas will not be easy for the audience to experience alone as Noe’s since he is VnC’s POV narrator.

Hence, Vanitas’ actions of love and salvation towards Noe will be delivered in climatic point of the storyline which could be at the time when Noe will kill him. While other readers speculate or hope that Vanitas could cheat death with the Blue Moon’s power (rewritten into something), some ominous revival may happen, or some spiritual thing, I suspect Vanitas will actually be dead for real. Mochijun is not playing with us this time… but not like she ever was.

Remember the quote bubble from Memoire 1?

‘Noe, I won’t die Noe, even if I’m no longer here.’

This line I suspect, will be Vanitas’ display of love and salvation for Noe.

Vanitas knows Noe can’t stand death as an option for salvation without trying. He might have made a decision to die alone for whatever reason (ironic that he hates that) but doesn’t want Noe to feel the pain of killing another, or losing someone close to him again due to external factors or his own actions. (Noe’s abandonment issues). His quote takes the burden of responsibility of his death away from Noe. This part is the ‘love’ he offers to comfort Noe that he won’t ‘die’ and make it sounds like a goodbye instead, which kind of sounds like a blatant lie and a little cruel. That’s what Vanitas’ experience with love is like: cruel and painful. Noe, who’s love is gentle and tender, Vanitas returns it in the purest form he’s most familiar with in the most twisted scenarios.

The ‘salvation’ in Vanitas quote, is to cease additional despair, self-blame and burden for Noe who still laments the death of loved ones. But he does it in his own way (use the methods I choose, no matter what you want kind of deal) to tell Noe that he has to let go of these haunted thoughts, such as Louis’s death. To let go of him. Otherwise, Noe will eventually be harmed if he doesn’t, so I guess this may be a wake up call to him as Vanitas is gone. I think Vanitas might make that decision of love and salvation for Noe at the very last moment.

Noe’s lesson is to accept that, or learn to acknowledge that love can be cruel, painful and that salvation will have forms of sacrifice. Noe will have to learn to let go, accept the ‘consequences’ of the decisions he made and live well. This won’t be a happy end for either of them. Or us.

Yeah, I suspect this might be a defining point of the VnC that Mochijun wants to understand about ‘love’.

Umm this was long ramble, but thank you for the ask anon! I got lots of thoughts running through my head but I think this is enough for me to get back to other life responsibilities in the mean time before Memoire 55 comes out.

I know I've brought this up before, but how much of the fandom reception of the prequels do you think stemmed from the genre dissonance? That the prequels, genre-wise, are closer to high fantasy, while the OT is more an adventure/space western/underdog triumph story.

The prequels also have elements more reminiscent of a romantic period/court drama/Shakespearean tragedy, while if you consider the underdog angle of the OT, the OT also seems kinda similar to some of those inspirational movies about sports teams or something, or a shonen anime with the "Power of Friendship".

I'm just saying, these are rather disparate genres that tend to attract different demographics of people.

And not many people tend to be... great about understanding why they don't like something, much less putting it into words, or understanding that they can dislike something without that something being actually bad. (For example, instead of "I just don't really like [thing]," the usual statement is something along the lines of "[thing] absolutely sucks.")

So the usual response is trying to find (and gather) solidarity while putting down or being condescending towards any dissent, and trying to justify their own dislike. (*gestures vaguely towards pineapple on pizza*)

And historically, it's not uncommon for people to... react strongly towards things they find... different or abnormal, which they judge based on themselves, their emotional response to something, and what they're used to.

Looking at kids, this behavior is... fairly normal. "You're weird," "ew, why do you like that, that's gross," "that's stupid," and so on. A lot of kids/teens/young adults also get defensive really easily. And let's face it--adults are basically just older, taller kids who've had to deal with more of life.

(To be honest, I also get defensive really easily. A lot of people do, and it's... it's normal. The defensive reaction can be lashing out, denial, or just being passive-aggressive or staying silent and tuning it out or mentally rolling your eyes at it. But I'm trying to work on it, because just because it's normal doesn't mean it's a good reaction.)

So, what I'm wondering is whether some fans dislike the prequels simply because it's a different genre...

...but instead of realizing that, they try to defend and justify their dislike by pointing fingers and criticizing whatever stood out or looked different from the OT or cherry-picking details/taking things out of context or making negative conflations (that can be refuted).

Because it's not about logic, it's about how they feel. And people want to feel justified and validated, and we want to feel like we're right and we enjoy staying in our comfort zones. So... yeah. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

LOL, okay, this response is going to be really disjointed because I went off in like a dozen different tangents and even then it's not enough to cover everything, so just kind of read this in a Scattered Thoughts Nerd kind of tone, where I'm staring off into the distance because Navel Gazing Gets Me Going Sometimes. 😂 In my experience, it's sort of a mix. I don't hang around a lot of people who dislike the prequels (in the sense of dismissing them/not being fannish about them) because, well, that's the heart of my interest in Star Wars, so our areas of interest basically don't really overlap that much, so I don't have a chance to talk to a lot of people and find out their reasons or even how they dislike the prequels, in the bigger trends of fandom. I do think there's an element of what you're talking about, that sometimes people can't just dislike things because it's not their genre of choice, that's absolutely a part of it. Mostly because that's how a lot of people react to anything they don't like (and it's something I and literally everyone else has to work on), there has to be a reason for it that it's objectively bad and, like, I have experienced a lot of people getting mad because I like something in a different way than they do. And I don't mean just in Star Wars fandom, but in almost any given fandom--if someone likes something in a way someone else doesn't, if they talk loudly about it (even within their own space), then there's always a contingent of people who have to find a reason why that person is objectively wrong (or even try to make them morally wrong), rather than just shrugging and going, "We see things differently, my view on things doesn't overwrite theirs and their view on things doesn't overwrite mine." It gets more complicated in instances where fandom attitudes genuinely can be hurtful, especially when they're overlapping into the way real people are treated, likes/dislikes don't 100% exist in a bubble, especially when it comes to queer fans, fans of color, disabled fans, mentally ill fans, etc. But that there are a lot of instances where fandom culture has always been--and is increasingly so--contentious and it's hard to chill out when someone is always screaming at you, when the atmosphere of the fandom is always so intense. Further, there's also an element of how fandom has always been--and also is increasingly so--about personal resonance, personal emotional investment, interpretation, and meaning. That sometimes we identify with something so deeply that we feel attacked when someone else likes or dislikes something we feel so strongly about, something that we feel is a reflection of ourselves, and I see a lot of that as well. And this, too, often crosses over into lines of how the context of how we treat characters can be reflections of how we treat real world people, but that there's no monolith here as well. For example: I make fun of Anakin, this angers some people, because how dare I not take this fictional victim 100% seriously, despite that I have repeatedly said that Anakin is the character I most identify with, that things I make fun of him for are ones that I resonate with personally. I'm not disrespecting mentally ill people, especially considering that Anakin is not bound to a single interpretation on this front--he is not canonically mentally ill, no matter how easy it is for us in fandom to map much of that onto his character or, in my case, feel that so much of what I see in him are things I struggle with myself. By and large, the majority of the people I see (at least on tumblr) who make fun of Anakin are doing so within the same vein, that they're being silly about him on things that they personally relate to. (My experiences on this are not universal, I cannot speak for the whole of even any one part of fandom, only my own sphere of experience, but this is what I've seen.) As always, it's fine if someone doesn't vibe with my style or they find that it's not their thing because they do take him more seriously, but that preference does not make my jokes

suddenly not have the context that I relate a lot to what I see in Anakin. In contrast, the way some of the fandom treats Mace or Finn isn't just personal all the time. Not liking their characters isn't inherently racist, but the way they're consistently, consistently treated sure as hell speaks to a larger pattern of racism in fandom and doesn't come without that context. It's the same with Rey--is there a huge vein of misogyny when it comes to her character? Abso-fucking-lutely there is. Things Luke and Anakin get a pass on, Rey is raked over the coals for. Is everyone who dislikes Rey a misogynist? Not even close. Some don't like her because Finn was used as a prop for her story. Some people don't like her because she got sucked into Kylo Ren's story too much. Some just don't care for the way she was written for other reasons. Some just don't vibe with her. It's fine. Nothing is a monolith. And to circle this back around to what you're talking about--it's hard to judge, both because no part of fandom is a monolith in their reactions, but also because we're only hearing from a selection of the fans. How do you know how many people who aren't fans of the prequels, who just don't care for them because it's not their genre, but just go about their day? You don't hear from a lot of them because they moved on to things they do like, so it seems like they must not exist--except, they do, and they're just out there doing things they like more. We only hear from the people who feel the need to tell others they dislike the prequels for this reason or that reason, some valid, some less valid, etc. Ultimately, I do think there's probably a fair amount of genre dissonance for why people dislike the prequels and channel that into "they're objectively bad" and get defensive when people like them and say they were great, but only because that's true of anything anywhere. But that it's only one small slice of the bigger picture (and there's a lot of stuff that I had to eschew in the writing of this response as well because it can be a pretty sprawling topic), where there are tons of reasons and reactions that people have, as well as they're perfectly free to dislike the prequels for whatever reason they do or don't have, it doesn't really affect my opinions, unless they're trying to shove it in my face or are being a dick to those who disagree with them.

Things that makes me happier

I gave up posting number in front of my post title, initially it was to mark whether I reach the goal of posting a writing every week, which made me had to post 52 writings for the year of 2021, and by this point I am pretty sure I am not gonna reach that number so yes, we can forget it.

So I personally feel like recently I am in a better state of being, and have lots of idea coming up in my head. While I still religiously write on my handwritten journal, I feel like writing, in case my nonexistent reader would like to know, or give some inspirations. Lol, like who you are.

No, really, I am just really believe in sharing, and I would love to know if my mundane knowledge or experience be insightful even to only one other person. Because I myself found multiple times that a knowledge/sharing that someone posted online impacted me greatly - hence I am just thinking about the other me who may be seeking the things I am about to say/share.

Things that makes me happier are:

Intermittent Fasting

I have been doing IF for 2 weeks now, and yeah, it makes me feel good. I started initially because, duh, like everyone else, I wanted to lose weight. Some might want to kick me in the ass for saying such thing, and assure me that I have normal body and yada yada. And, as straight forward as it is - I just want to be as skinny as possible. Hahaha. Maybe it is something to do with me very sold into the standard beauty, or maybe it’s got to do with something in the past - I was quite cheeky.

However, even though I always say that I want to lose weight, over the years I have never really made the effort. Some days I took it hard some days it just a normal day, me eating this and that and whatnot. But then I have noted the intention of me wanting to be so skinny, on top of those beauty standard I believe have huge impact in me and a quite hard time in the past for being cheeky is because it simply makes me feel lighter, not holding anything within my body. Because for the context and some TMI, I have a not so good digestion, so yeah. There was a period of the time that I often I feel stuffed and bloated - which felt so uncomfortable, that I can’t stand working while sitting because I felt my stomach is getting on my way.

I tried IF a while back, and it worked for me, so now I decided to try it again now. Intention achieved. I believe it was because the time window for eating that pool all the food I eat in a day to be only consumed for certain times (I do 7 hours, my best convenience). I used to eat on times where, looking back, I was not really hungry, you know. Like breakfast - turned out (I don’t know why I forget about this) that I am not a breakfast person. All through high school I don’t remember myself sitting, eating breakfast in my uniform.

But then I just picked up a habit of eating breakfast while my stomach is actually not really ready for it, which end up making me feel bloated that last long all through lunch and pretty much for the day - and then without me knowing the new day has begin, and the cycle starts all over.

So yeah, IF had helped me to be to schedule my eating time which made my digestion works better I guess, and no more me having a bloated stomach constantly.

Quitting Social Media

Finally I succeed in cutting myself with social media. This, I also had tried in the beginning of the pandemic I guess - went on without social media for weeks and at that time I really felt the benefit and all, until I came back to social media and can not disconnect ever since. Even though I have been wanting to detox myself, but at the same time I felt really dependent on it.

It took me one lows moment of life to finally be able to went cold turkey about disconnecting. It was when I felt frustrated on Twitter news where every day it seems like there were a bad news - people died, people lost jobs, people complaining, the news about our incompetent and corrupt government and so on. Without me realizing, it took a toll on myself. Other than that was me who checking in Linkedin constantly at the time and seeing my friends’ profile whose climbing up the corporate ladder, while I was unsure and questioning whether I am in the right place (sounds like the problem of these days youth who lives in their own bubble, yeah?).

So one Friday where I had one of my breakdown, I went MIA for the weekend to the people who are close to me, as well as to my social media. It’s only been 2 weeks now, but it is safe to say that I can reclaim myself within these times, suddenly lots of thinking came up to me, as if all these times the bad news maybe somewhat oppress it or something. And, I also feel more certain about what is going on my mind/heart.

I believe quitting social media has its downside as well, as like I really am not having an update on the news (90% of my news source is Twitter - how sad yet could not be truer for most of us), I completely blind on our Covid update I even think that Covid is slowing down in the territory. Yeah, as expected you lose win some as well as you lose some, but for now at leas, I decided to win for myself.

Olympic 2020

I have never watched Olympic before, as far as I remember. Nor that I care about it. But this time is different. I believe the fact that we are on privilege to be in the safety of home have a huge part in me having the opportunity to watch the Olympic - thanks for that. For almost two weeks I was hooked to my TV, even one time I was on my TV from 6am to 10pm and watched all the games they aired.

To have the company to watch was a big advantage as well. As now I have my sibling in the house, I teamed up with my sister to watch the Olympic, we both did not know that we enjoyed it so much that we invested in each game we watched. We cheered for athletics, we scream for badminton, we gasped for weightlifting. It was a very fun experience. For almost two weeks I change my work station in front of the TV and so did my sister.

On top of that, what made Olympic special and very intrigued me was the diversity of the athletes. I guess I just did not exposed to such diversity as it was presented in the Olympic. I was presented with some very foreign countries whose name I hardly heard, or the people whose features were different one another.

Questions like why some sports dominated my a certain race while other sports dominated by others also popped out in my head. And not to mention my awed to each of these Olympian athletes when they perform their sports, I always wonder what it takes for them to be there right now - how many years of training, how much tears were sacrificed and relationships had to be let go. There were just so many elements of the Olympics that made me really drawn and invested in it.

Youtube

Surprise, surprise.

Well, my attraction to Youtube recently was different because of the previous para - Olympic. Because of getting really drawn into the Olympic athlete, I was searching lots of reference videos. And as we all know how we are being spied and we are mere a number for these big tech companies, they get to know me better know and present me with more content that I love (or else I had never discovered).

I am not sure what I searched previously, but Youtube chose that I now an avid cultural researcher, jk. Yeah, I watched a lot about something culture-related on Youtube because it is funny, looking back, I was once really attracted to be a global citizen and what not (what a flavor of youth!!), traveling the world, meeting people from other countries, make impact in the NGO (before long I know the NGOs are mostly funded by big corporations as well, heart breaking reality for me).

What I am saying is that the savvy man-made tech of Youtube has made me rediscover my old interest about culture! And I just actually learn that you can learn a lot from Youtube’s comment section, which debates often open up you to things which are (1) people can comment based on data and have every intention to educate other people; and (2) people more often be ignorant, and how much you are on the right stance, with the wrong people, you can still be, yeah wrong.

Somehow the lesson I gained in the Youtube’s comment section was really grounding to me to realize these polar of people, and in the end what you can do is only simply be you because after all, people really will hold on to their own opinion and belief.

Jigsaw Puzzle

RECCOMENDED 100/100. Damn, wasn’t it a good choice when one day I decided to try out jigsaw puzzle to entertained myself while waiting my partner to reply my chat message?

On the one of the breakdown moment I mentioned I believe that I had to have distraction and I thought of either a puzzle or a coloring book. I ended up buying both, but I am positive that I am more drawn to jigsaw puzzle. I first ordered a 1500 piece puzzle and when it first came, I kind of secretly afraid that I will give up. Also my mother being my mother and she was pessimist that I would finish the puzzle.

But one time I was just playing by myself, not expecting anything or even asked anyone to help me (afraid that I put too much task on other people), yet my sister helped me out, and a while after my mom helped we out as well. Resulting in the puzzle finished in 3 days. Soon after I order new puzzle, and so did my sister. Her order came first and it was a 1000 pieces puzzle, which we finished in 2 hours (boo, it turned out to be too easy), and now we are opening up our 3rd puzzle and tried to work on it.

I am just really happy that I discovered it, it is really great way to bond and filling time. And every time I successfully put the pieces together - that just very satisfying feelings! I believe I will have more and more puzzle to come in the near future.

If Ishimaru had been executed in the killing game, who do you think he'd kill and what'd his execution be like?

Hmm, this one’s a bit complex. I’m not all too good at plotting, but if Ishimaru was one of the blackened, maybe this is one scenario to make it possible. There are probably a lot of flaws/holes because I’m sorta thinking about this on the spot rip

I think this would happen at the time of the chapter 2 murder, with the context that:

Monokuma initiates the secrets motive

Mondo and Ishimaru are already bros

I might’ve messed up the canon order of events, though. It’s kinda fuzzy to me

I don’t think that Ishimaru would ever commit premeditated murder; it would likely be self defense or something else that forces his hand.

Here’s what I think the order of events would be:

Byakuya’s being a dick and Mondo fights him like he tried to do in the beginning

Byakuya gets injured but overall he’s fine. Toko is obviously upset

That night, Genocider surfaces and goes to kill Mondo for hurting Byakuya, not sure what part of the school this would be though

Ishimaru (who is there for some reason) intercepts, wanting to reason with her (“that’s not cool!”) except he doesn’t know about Genocider, the secret hasn’t been revealed yet. He thinks Toko is just acting strangely

Things really heat and between the two of them and Genocider ends up lunging at him. But in their struggle he ends up killing her (maybe by throwing something really heavy at her head or stabbing her with something long, idk, if he got too close to Genocider he would be straight up Done)

In shock, Ishimaru mentally shuts down and goes to lock himself in his room. He crosses paths with Mondo along the way but is so distracted that he doesn’t even notice that Mondo’s there

Mondo’s like “what tf” and eventually comes across Toko’s corpse and puts 2 and 2 together. At first he tries to play it like Ishimaru was merely upset by discovering the corpse, but then realizes that if that were the case, then Ishimaru would be pounding on people’s doors screaming at everyone to wake up, a body has been discovered.

So Mondo realizes that his bro is probably the killer. He reasons that maybe just maybe Ishimaru argued with Toko over Mondo hurting Byakuya and it ended tragically. He doesn’t want his bro to get convicted (can’t take losing another brother). He tampers with the crime scene just enough to possibly implicate himself.

The next morning, the rest of the students find Toko’s corpse. Investigation happens. All the evidence is taken at face value. Ishimaru is still not 100% mentally all there yet.

Once the trial begins, Ishimaru immediately and loudly confesses.

All the other students are like “what tf”. No way the actual killer would do something like that. Trial proceeds.

Trial runs as normal. Ishimaru insists that he’s the killer but everyone else shoots him down with evidence that contradicts all of his testimonies.

Ishimaru’s like “idk why the evidence is like that but I did it” and everyone else is like “shut the fuck up Ishimaru what’s wrong with you”

Byakuya is smug the whole time because he is SO CONVINCED that Mondo did it. He think that he has an advantage over the rest of the students because he’s the only one who knows about Genocider (In this case, he would’ve found out earlier than he did in canon). He assumes that Genocider attacked Mondo and Mondo killed her in self defense.

In fact, Mondo seems more and more guilty as the trial goes on, and the other students become more and more convinced that Ishimaru is just trying to cover for Mondo.

Byakuya finally lets loose: Toko is part serial killer, and she wanted to kill Mondo for hurting “Master”.

The trial shifts into proving that Mondo had a fight with Genocider. Mondo has even gone to the extent of faking injuries on himself using the scissors he found on the scene.

Mondo “confesses”. Ishimaru goes ballistic.

The trial turns into this huge back-and-forth between Mondo and Ishimaru. Each is trying to convict himself as the killer.

Eventually, the students realize that Ishimaru has been telling the truth this whole time. Probably due to him giving out a detail that indicated that he met Genocider the night before. Something that he knows that Mondo doesn’t. idk what tho.

Byak is SHOOK that he was wrong. He can’t comprehend why Mondo would tamper with evidence to make himself look guilty.

Mondo’s like “Bro! Bro don’t do this! If you get executed, it’s all my fault. I should have been the one who met Genocider, not you. I lost Daiya, I can’t lose you too.”

But Ishimaru responds with “It’s okay, bro. I committed a crime, and it’s only right for me to receive the consequences for it. I did it to protect my friend. I hope this can inspire you to do good in society. Don’t forget me.” Or whatever.

I just really like the idea of Ishimaru being the blackened and then just confessing asap with no one believing him

As for his execution, it would have to be his unused one. This fan animation (my favorite fanmade execution ever) does an amazing job representing it. The forced hand waving is just *chef’s kiss*. This will make me sound like a horrible person but my only issue with it is that it’s too merciful. Not up to Monokuma’s standards. I think that the assassin Monokuma would keep shooting Ishimaru, intentionally missing any vital points that would have him die instantly—just to prolong the torture. And then Monokuma would finish him off by shooting him in the head.

while reading your posts, i always feel that you’re really well rounded and good at character analysis and just articulating your feelings and opinions towards stories in general. it’s something that i’m trying to get better at, and something that i admire you for, so i was wondering if you had any pointers or tips regarding developing analysis skills? thank you!

first of all, thank you so much!!😭😭 i’m so glad you enjoy my stuff and it gives me a lot of joy to know that this, like, inspires people or w/e fkdkgkf

i’m putting everything below a cut bcs it’s long as fuck and kind of disorganized. i wrote some parts half-asleep, so they might be rambly or stating the obvious or whatever, but you know, pick and choose what’s helpful to you! this probably isn’t exhaustive (and i kinda focused in on the ‘character analysis’ part, bcs otherwise there’s… so much), and if anything’s unclear or if you want more elaboration on sth just let me know!

the basics:

write!! it doesn’t matter what you write, it can meta, fanfic, rp, whatever, but as long as you write about this character you’ll be forced to articulate your thoughts; by extension that means you’ll have to gather evidence and make a convincing case for your portrayal. even if you’re writing fic or rp i think you should have a strong reference of where your characterization is coming from - i used to rp at places that required applications, so that would force me to think about my character’s personality and put it into words. i think most people are helped by the actual process of writing itself also, so don’t let lack of confidence stop you if you’re someone who tends to do that: you might wind up happier with your ideas after having written something than before (and you can aaalways edit).

read!! read other people’s analyses, not necessarily just about the character you have in mind, but about other characters, other stories, other genres, etc. what kinds of things do they point out to support their argument? what patterns are they picking up on? do you agree/disagree? what’s a new thought they’ve introduced to you? what are things they do that you particularly like? can you replicate that idea/technique in your own reading? there are so many times when i’ve read another person’s analysis and made a note to be more aware of [a certain thing] in the future, so that’s what helps me change and build and incorporate new stuff into the way i think about stories.

try to keep an ongoing chronicle of your thoughts. this could 100% be a personal thing, but i actually started to think and absorb a lot more (especially about small things) after i started this blog. being here meant that not only was i keeping up with chapter releases bcs of other fans, but i was also regularly writing about my impressions. reading and discussing chapter by chapter forced me to read & process everything in smaller increments, which let me take in more details, and gave more time for my thoughts and feelings to develop. in contrast, when i binge-read, i actually miss a lot of details and a lot of finer points of the storyline because i’m just trying to get from one plot point to the next.

stick close to canon. this is definitely subjective, but since this is also partially about how i approach character interpretation, i’ll toss this in. i personally don’t stray too far from what’s shown to me in-text, and i revisit canon a lot to establish a “baseline” characterization rather than building off of my own headcanons. this has pros and cons: for example, i feel like i don’t overstate things compared to their canon importance, and i feel like i don’t get too carried away with embellishing character traits; however, it also holds me back from theorizing unless there’s a ton of evidence in front of me, and i can be overcautious when it comes to approaching narrative hints. sometimes i do talk about my headcanons, but even then i usually point out whether or not it’s substantiated, because i do think the line between headcanon and canon gets muddled a lot in fandom discussion.

think about a character’s role in the story. so, we know stories have plots, a start and an end, and messages and themes. all characters function within that framework, they advance us from point a to point b, the carry the moral of the story. i think these are aspects that are important to include in your character analysis; while sure, there’s already plenty to analyse about the LOV as self-contained characters, but they also seem more important, more interesting, and more complex when you take them into the context of the larger story (how and why their relationships are built, what they mean as a part of man vs society conflict, etc.). not only does it inform you about the character (what the author is trying to say through them, what direction the author might push them in), it can also tell you a lot about the overall structure and themes of the story itself.

authors include everything for a reason. when you’re creating something from scratch, you have to actively decide what you include. the way someone’s room looks doesn’t necessarily mean anything in the grand scheme of things, but the author decided to design their room that way based off something—most likely a character’s interests, tastes, and preferences. while mina’s dorm room looking a certain way might not mean she has an old-fashioned personality, it can maybe tell you that she has a more retro taste and aesthetic. this can apply to “big” things too, like one of tomura’s severed hands still surviving the chaos. hori chose to have it survive rather than be decayed like everything else, so of course the question is why?

… but they are imperfect. creators also do make choices out of plot convenience, because of their own biases, or sometimes they just forget (as hori has done before, such as twice duplicating himiko in the overhaul arc and then saying he doesn’t know her measurements for the mla arc). so it can sometimes also be assumed that a detail was included/excluded because of something on the creator’s end, rather than because of it necessarily being symbolic or important to the characters (e.g. a character not being able to make it to a fight might be because their skills are too useful and could resolve the plot too easily, not because them getting sidetracked is important in itself; a female character losing a fight she should have won could be an issue of the creator’s misogyny). so these are aspects you can keep in mind as well when you’re evaluating characterization!

tendencies i see people fall into:

don’t take everything characters say at face value. characters can and do lie. they can be sarcastic. they can be manipulative. they can be deluding themselves. they can even be mistaken! there’s a reason why they’re expressing themselves that way, and sometimes you can gain more by actually investigating that contradiction rather than just assuming they mean what they say.

allow characters to change! they will change in canon, so don’t be too beholden to their early characterization if you’re trying to analyze or write them from a later point in the timeline. again, this seems intuitive, but i see a lot of people who still appear to draw on tomura’s early character portrayal by making him irritable towards the LOV, but he’s much more recently allowed himself to be physically pushed around by some of them without really reacting in any way.

embrace subtlety. a lot of people in their fanfic just see one aspect of a character and blow it up to make it their only characterization. like, tomura is irritable, himiko is obsessed with blood, any villain can be written as a sadistic killer hellbent on annihilation, etc. while having a couple personality traits come through strongly can help the character have a unique personality and voice, too much will make them appear one-note. it’s just as important to recognize moments when characters are being calm and focused and articulate, as much as their most dramatic moments. for example, a lot of writers don’t seem to notice that tomura doesn’t snap at his allies, tends to answer their questions evenly, and never lashes out at them; that’s because these moments are very understated in the manga. hori doesn’t point a huge arrow at them, and he shouldn’t have to! it’s one of those very subtle ways to show a character’s growth. so, pay attention to those moments, and pay attention to what’s not being done as much as what is.

didnt wanna admit it before but while reading ILM i kinda started shipping quentin & frank hhh (i also really like quentin with joey hehe, david just seemed too old so it was weird & i was a lil worried with all the hints at quinxdavid djskdjs) i did consider writing something for myself where these two come to speak of their scars & bond, becoming tentative friends, the bond growing with time, idk i just liked their interactions in-fic & how they reacted to each other, i hope thats not weird,,

Lol, didn’t realize anything in ILM would lead to that. I like Quentin with a lot of people (tbh I like most survivors w each other p well, sans like, weird huge age gaps). I like him most with Nancy, then with Joey or Claudette, then David I thiiiink? In that order? I fluctuate. Haha. But David is a bit older, true—p Quentin would be a couple years older before them starting to date in a world where they did. There’s so many cute relationships out there TuT. I personally don’t ship Frank with Quentin romantically—partially because Quentin deserves better (I’m so sorry Frank ily but it took you the entire story to get your act together so it depends wildly on how evolved the version of Frank I’m talking about is—start-fic you was not great, & I’m so glad you got where you are son, but boy did you start rough) and partially because I found I actually really like Frank and Julie (and I feel bad for Julie if she gets removed for someone else to step in). That’s not weird though! And I think they have some very interesting energy in-fic, and would outside of it, and could be very good for each other if they knew each other better, even if I think it would be in a platonic way.

Frank’s definitely aware Quentin is a decent person, and that messes with him, because he doesn’t like to deal with decent people (lol, see: Jeff), but I think it could help them a lot to become closer and get to know each other and be friends. They do share some common trauma (kind of), and it could help them heal a lot. I really love Quentin with Joey, and I think it would be super interesting to see Frank in that context in-realm, because I’m sure he’d be worried about Joey (his best friend), but it would also be really hard for him to completely hate Quentin, and it could lead to some super interesting story development. I’d really like to see all 3 of them be friends eventually, and I think since both Joey and Quentin are likely to help/be willing to forgive something Frank did, them together could have a unique effect on realm-Frank and might even be enough to eventually get him to chose to do things he otherwise never would in-realm and change some and mayb even try to help. It would be very sweet and it would be awesome to see all 3 of them interact more in that kind of AU, and I think it could be good for the lot of them TuT.

Haha, anyway! I don’t care for morrismith romantically—p partially for the reasons listed Julie, etc, and p also because of how it was introduced to me (unfortunately if a ship is introduced to me in a gross way or traumatic-ish one, I can kinda either extremely slowly or sometimes never really totally bury that? Which I hate >.> thanks guys). But writing ILM did make me like Frank a lot, and I 100% agree they have a very interesting dynamic. They don’t have a ton of screen time together, but it would be really cool to see them gain a friendship and open up to each other, and I do very much also like their interactions and would love to see them open up and get to know each other better. Joey is like, the only friend Frank has ever had in base canon—Joey and Julie, and even in ILM, at fic end, he’s got Julie, Joey, Jeff, and Susie. And that’s it—that’s all his friends, like his whole life. He needs more important and loving core relationships and people he can trust and care about and do things with, that really matter and that he really matters to back, and it would be cool to see Quentin become one of those people. I’m really glad you enjoyed reading how I wrote them, and if you feel inspired to write them opening up/trauma sharing, you totally should!

Honestly I don't practice self care as much as I should, but aside from doing things like showering and getting some sun, I like to bake to get my mind off of things, be productive, and look forward to something!

It's not huge, but I helped my mom study for her first exam and she got a 97% :D

Absolutely not lol. Even if I have the time to make up a lie, I'm not believable. I can set scenes though? Like if I need to make it look like something did or didn't happen, I'm good at that. That makes me sound like a criminal adfksdjg but for an example my brother and I stayed in bed all day and my mom was like 20 minutes from home so I did things like made him eat so she wouldn't be able to tell that we just brushed our teeth, played a movie but skipped to the middle of it, etc. That was awhile ago though.

Definitely introverted, but I do like going out and socializing, especially on spontaneous trips. I just get worn out easily.

I tried making banana oatmilk but it didn't turn out because I accidentally threw half of the banana away and didn't put enough salt in it :(

I have a few songs that I use for different kinds of calm, but I primarily listen to Still you by Super Junior D & E, Rather Be by Clean Bandit, and Dark Chocolate by Moon Kim

I can't think of much honestly because I mostly laugh at really dumb things or things that are out of context, so I would say by three best friends Cryptid Hunters!

My seventh grade history/English teacher, Mr. Otis. I haven't contacted him in a really long time but his teachings and wisdom really made an impact on me and I try uphold what he taught us

I love my biological family, but the strongest bonds I have are the ones with my friends, because those are relationships that I have to work for and don't depend on living together or being raised together. I love my biological family to death though!

Momo: How did you meet your group of friends?

We were all in journalism together in high school, and dahlia (who is now my best friend) @dahladahlabills invited me to join their group at this leadership thing at Disneyland. I was new to the school in my senior year and I don't know if I'd be friends with any of them if she hadn't done that :')

✙ Creativity and uniqueness: OCs get a special mention here as something about individually crafted characters even if inspired by previous fandoms/interests are a huge draw. Everything is new, mysterious and exciting. Canons can be the same, so long as you’re expressing yourself and open to new territory, all creativity is welcome. (including world building / character relationships and lore.) ✙ Any/all post lengths: From fun one shots to long ass paragraphs and novels; so long as the mood feels right I love anything from banter to plot lines. I also make a point of saying that I encourage partners not to feel like they need to post match (as I sure don’t, and I apologise if that’s a problem) but I feel as writers, we write what we feel is needed and relevant. Extending a post and dragging it out unnecessarily due to the fact you feel you must to appease the great post length gods is not needed.

✙ Prompts / Inbox fun / memery: it’s all good fun, I won’t lie. It’s also a great way to get some one off spontaneous character development/interaction so please. (* I was gonna make a nay tab for this but I’ll just summarise here; too much is overbearing. People who reblog like, 7 inbox memes in a day it just, whoa, chill out buddy.)

✙ Character/world building: I’m open to people who wish to share lore, build character relationships that integrate into their stories, world collaborating and building together. That butters my biscuit. Nays:

✚ Be of age. Seriously. Mun is 23.

✚ Too much OOC: chatter/interactions/plotting are all fair game and that’s what things like discord are for; but - honestly no hard feelings - I seldom follow blogs that repost or spend too much time filling up feeds with ooc things. I will also unfollow if this is something that happens often. It just makes things hard to track.

✚ Godmod situations: I am all for people writing character actions that may firmly determine an unavoidable event during an rp. But this comes with a known character context/chemistry and a pre-established trust in the player that they will do such acts with a degree open for retaliation or creative reaction; meaning, if I do not know you and you decide to play my character for me or force me into a situation which is not fun nor stimulating creatively due to being backed into a corner, this can be extremely frustrating and result in a thread dying off.

✚ Salty players: I have been rping long, long, long enough to have 0 time nor tolerance for players that act out when they don’t get their way. Specifically in the context of romance or smut where that seems to be the most prominent. People who make vague posts directed at others, or even incorporate it into their character ‘She turns away... clearly he’s not interested despite her doing like literally everything right to get his attention :/’ big oof.

✚ Smut driven profiles: listen, if you’re an adult, it happens, but I come from a fandom where it literally consumed all character development/traits. Characters must be more than sex driven; not to say sensual or seductive characters by nature are not welcome; but smut happens when it’s actually relevant or after history. No instants.

✚ Possessiveness or jealousy: Account is multi-ship / flexible. I understand some people will make it clear when a character is in a dedicated relationship which is 100% fair, but if they are not and they are open, muns/characters that act out on a demand for ‘loyalty’ or faithfulness where it is not warranted or earned will get a hard swerve.

✚ ‘Real life’ characters/face claims: I understand this is a popular notion on tumblr dot com, but I personally get taken out of the fantasy by real life face claims of actors I know. I just can’t seem to separate the two. Sorry!

✚ Homophobia / Racism / Transphobia : can’t believe I have to put this here, but this has happened and even 1 strike and you’re out. Never ever again, if even once. Gone, banned, thanks.

so revisiting octavia blake (especially after what we’ve seen of her in s5e06 tonight)... what’s your understanding of octavia blake, in relation to bloodreina and also as one of the most disliked characters in the fandom?

TW – there follows some discussion of abuse so if that is one of your sensitivities, I wish you well and recommend caution with what follows. Are you asking if I still stan Octavia now she’s Blodreina? Because the answer to that is complicated but basically yes. For clarity: stanning, to me, doesn’t involve nailing my colours to the mast and then contorting myself into ever more unlikely shapes to justify every single thing my fave has ever done. It’s possible to love and emphathise with a character, while also acknowledging the terrible things they’ve done or are. Maybe I don’t need to tell you this, but maybe others need to hear it: don’t let ANYONE shame you for loving Octavia. And by that I mean if someone tries, just tune them tf out. They don’t get it, they never will. They aren’t worth your time and energy. Let that truth set you free. So yeah, I still love Octavia, with all her flaws and her sharp edges. I can’t love Blodreina, but while Blodreina is certainly Octavia, Octavia is not Blodreina. Blodreina is the very worst of Octavia. Spoiled, demanding, hard, judgemental, imperious, unyielding, cold, unempathetic and very, very violent. She is the culmination of the story of a non-person, disempowered and locked up under the floor, coming into being and being handed a sword. And power. So much power. She is a product of necessity. She is an amalgamation of Jaha’s lessons, Indra and Kane’s guidance, Kara’s support and Gaia’s teachings. She has a god complex which, imo, can only go the way of Mount Weather. By which I mean it will probably consume everything in its path before blowing to smithereens and taking at least one of our faves down with it. But while Blodreina is certainly real, let’s not get carried away with OCTAVIA IS REVEALED AS FOR THE MONSTER SHE’S BEEN ALL ALONG. Deep breaths everyone, and maybe a sip of water. Blodreina is a persona who enables Octavia to carry out the most monstrous of deeds (hi Jaha!) and live with it. Has Octavia drunk the Blodreina Koolaid? Most certainly. But Octavia embracing her worst is not the same has Octavia being the worst. Also see: Bellamy season 1 and season 3a. Would you look at that A PARALLEL WE LOVE PARALLELS. Blodreina serves a purpose for Octavia-of-the-butterflies too. Because this show is this show and we are never more than a few monologues away from “love is weakness”, Blodreina is also a protective casing that locks away Octavia’s grief, her pain and her misery, her loneliness and self-loathing, along with her vulnerability and empathy. It seems super obvious to me that Octavia’s personal journey this season, apart from trying and presumably failing to keep Wonkru intact, will be about disassociating herself from Blodreina. And that, probably, won’t come without falling spectacularly from grace and facing her pain, and reckoning with the things she’s done. Also see: Bellamy seasons 1-4. Huh. What happens when the exoskeleton crumbles? What’s underneath? What will Octavia-who-washed-Lincoln’s-wounds, come to think about Blodreina and the things she’s done in the name of her people? How will she confront the agony of being Octavia Blake, naked, piteous and vulnerable, the girl under the floor who was denied existence?

I want these things for Octavia. I want the narrative to subject her to the most abject moral scrutiny because that is what you should want for the characters you love. It’s what makes them interesting. It’s what makes them matter. ALSO SEE BELLAMY FOREVER. Now I’ve been in this fandom long enough not to expect many others to see it this way. We are balls deep in moral monochrome here in the Bellarke fandom, and while that gives me pause for a sip of tea and a short prayer to the patron saints of patience, it’s not a situation that anyone can change, least of all me. And why would I? People are free to engage with the show how they want, as long as they stay in their lane.

And look, I get why some people can’t see past some of her sins. I, too, have characters that I dislike with varying degrees of rationality. But objectively, Octavia’s level of moral turpitude is at about the same level as any of the main characters. That’s just a fact. People’s personal preferences, while as valid as any other preference, are just that: subjective opinions. Where I start to sip my tea and raise my eyes to the heavens is when people start presenting their subjective opinions as objective FUCK YOU AND YOUR INBOX truth and thanks but no. It seems to be fanon lore now that Octavia is unempathetic and…it just makes no sense. This is the girl who was filled with wonder at Earth, who refused to let Jasper die even when everyone in camp wanted him to. She saw the humanity in Lincoln when Bellamy, Clarke and Raven could not. She saw the humanity in humanity when all anyone wanted to do was kill each other until they burned in Praimfaya. Wonkru exists because Octavia inspired them with her faith in them. The only way it begins to make sense is when you consider Octavia’s actions through the prism of Bellamy’s experience – which 8/10 is how the BC fandom at least views the show. (Also valid btw. I also project onto my faves! Bellamy among them! But see above for subjective opinion vs objective fact.) With Bellamy, the lack of empathy is real. Octavia, or at least the Octavia of seasons 1-4 high key struggled to see Bellamy as a fully realised person with desires and feelings of his own. But, while this sucks for Bellamy, from Octavia’s perspective it is entirely understandable. No matter how young Bellamy seems to us, to Octavia he is her parent figure. How many of the people on here haven’t put their parents through hell from time to time? I shouldn’t have to point out the bleeding obvious here, which is that teenagers who care deeply about animal welfare, trans rights, LGBTQA+ rights, poverty and climate change can also go through phases of being absolutely fucking awful to their parents. Often, that’s because in our world, teens are subjected to an unholy amount of pressure with which they struggle to cope, and the overspill of that hurt lands on the people responsible for them. It doesn’t make them bad people. And, yes, that can, occasionally, tip over into emotional and, more rarely, physical abuse but we don’t usually call it that. We call that “teenagers being fucking awful” and I am 100% sure that this is the context the writers room is working from. Do I think it’s acceptable, or justified? Hell no. But it’s important to take these narrative threads in the context of the real-world understanding of the people who develop them. This show isn’t created in a vacuum. Now work the scenario I outlined above into a post-apocalyptic landscape with 2x traumatised victims of systemic injustice, one of whom was locked up by the other because of that injustice. Yeah. What is so interesting to me is that the blind spot Octavia has wrt Bellamy – the blind spot that denied him access to the empathy she showed everyone else - has come into play again now she’s Blodreina, but in a different way. After 6 years of having everyone kowtow to her, and after vowing not to love, suddenly Octavia is making concession after concession for her brother at huge personal risk to herself. It might not seem like that to us, or to Bellamy (and legit! I get why, from Bellamy’s POV), but to Octavia it must seem like she’s trying SO HARD to give him what he wants within the framework of what she thinks is achievable. Consider love is weakness. Consider that she throws herself into his arms on sight, in full view of all of her people. Consider being the arbiter of life and death for 6 years. Now consider Bellamy asking her to trust him. She does and is rewarded with a sonic blast. Bellamy delivers her an ultimatum about Echo, and she concedes. She fucking concedes! When has she ever willingly conceded on anything and ESPECIALLY NOW SHE HOLDS THE POWER OF AN EMPEROR? It’s fairly obvious from the Blake siblings sparring session that Bellamy was the symbolic winner. He got through to her. Octavia NEVER forgives. But she offers Echo – the woman whose sins Octavia will never forget - a way out. When Echo and Bellamy refuse, does she banish Echo? She could do. She’s Blodreina. She’s used to doing whatever the fuck she wants. But, no. She accepts the alternative, and even helps Echo on her way. Yes, it’s brutal and Blodreina-y and serves a double purpose but still, she helps her. She’s not doing that for Echo. She’s doing it for Bellamy. No, she’s not doing it with a winning smile and a cuddle, but that’s not Blodreina’s style. She tries to thank him for saving them, in the only way she knows how. She reaches out, and he lashes out with cold anger. And perhaps it’s deserved. No, it’s definitely deserved, but GODDAMMIT that was a “you’re dead to me” level of cruelty. Can I just roll back a second and talk about how co-dependent the Blake sibs are? Cool. A friend (I can’t remember who, sorry) once said that Bellamy and Octavia carried their cage back down to Earth with them. And for seasons 1-4 that is absolutely what happened. They are spectacularly co-dependent. Bellamy depends on her to give him purpose, and a direction and reason to live. Octavia depends on him to absorb the overspill of her hurt, to push against, to take the blame for all of the ills in her life. It sucks for them both, and they’re TRAPPED, so terribly trapped, and neither is the other’s jailer but neither can walk away either. And just, what strikes me about the interactions we saw in the sneak peek for 507 is that maybe, FINALLY, Bellamy has broken free of their co-dependent relationship. He may not even realise it yet, but he has completely re-centred his world around Spacekru now. And I think, that if push comes to shove, he will prioritise Spacekru above Octavia, even if it hurts them both. It doesn’t mean he loves Octavia any less, but after 6 years of love and support and peace and quiet, Bellamy has broken out of the cage. Bellamy is free. Excuse me while I cry tears of joy. But Octavia isn’t free. Octavia hasn’t had 6 years of peace and support and love. Octavia’s life has been marked by trauma from the moment of her birth, and the trauma hasn’t let up for a single goddamned second it just keeps coming and coming and coming until all she has is her walls and an alter-ego and the hope that she can keep Wonkru together and her brother by her side. Believe me when I say that Octavia is still very much trapped inside the cage which Bellamy has now vacated. IT IS ALL VERY HEARTBREAKING OKAY. IT HURTS. So yes, I still love Octavia and I am ready to see her again when Blodreina falls.

The Professional Gamer - February 9, 2019

Well, this has been a fun end to a week. I had a quick day trip out to Albuquerque (via plane) to have a look at a project site. I'll be posting this on Saturday afternoon, but as of late on Friday, I'm on a train heading from the Denver Airport back to my house. In other news, I caught back up on the seasonal anime. Well, for the most part. I have one more episode of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime to watch. Come to think of it, I guess I'm not actually watching a whole lot of anime this season. I'd change that, but it might mean watching some of the shows that, at least on first appearance, seem a little trashy. This intro has gone on long enough, let's get to the meat. Spoilers abound for Mob Psycho 100 and Slime; you have been warned.

First up is Mob Psycho 100, which has been an emotional ride in the last few weeks. Shigeo was really tested and presented with an alternative way to live his life and use his powers. We'd seen him start to question what might happen to the world if he was to become selfish. "Who would be able to stop me?" he asked. Then, just a few episodes later, an evil spirit is trying to show him how terrible the world is, and how he should use his powers for his own benefit. In the end, Shigeo not only rejects this premise, but turns it around. He sees the wonderful people around him as a gift, and remonstrates himself for not thanking them enough. Through all of this, we see a somewhat different side of Reigen too. He still seems to be rather exploitative of Shigeo, but there seems to be a greater sense of care behind it. The fact that Shigeo has taken Reigen's edict to "never use his powers against humans" to heart, is a huge part of Shigeo’s character. The fact that one of Shigeo’s guiding principals comes from a man like Reigen is incredible. I suppose everyone is rather lucky that Shigeo took up with Reigen and not someone with serious ambitions. I look forward to seeing how this character development continues.

On another note, this season of Mob has been amazing for its animation and visual effects. The fight in the world of the subconscious is fluid and complex, looking more like the quality of animation that I expect in a feature length project, rather than a television show. The success of the first season seems to have provided the folks who control the money with incentive to invest in this property, to ensure that it is off exceptional quality. I just hope that the last few episodes didn't blow the entire budget and we'll have stick figures animated at 12 frames per second for the rest of the series.

This is the part where I put my recommendation. Mob is an enormously fun show, which manages to include both comedy and poignant emotional beats. It is a bit hard to classify. I can't just say, "If you like comedy, this is the show for you." Like most shows of great quality, Mob is complex, offering action, comedy, slapstick, and drama, usually all in one episode. You should watch Mob Psycho 100. You may have a bit of catch up to do, if you haven't seen the first season, but there is nothing else that would be a better use of your anime viewing time right now.

Moving on to That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. I have previously discussed how this show seems to be moving from an RPG inspired isekai to something more akin to a strategy game. Now, having watched a few more episodes, I'm not sure that this has been the best decision for the show. If nothing else, a lot of things feel too easy for Rimuru. The thing that really stuck me, was the short development time for the Max Potions, and then subsequent lack of exploitation. In the space of a single episode, they had solved the problem of refining the herbs to the level necessary for creation of the Max Potions, and then promptly stopped caring. I have to assume that researchers had been working on that problem for awhile. Finding solutions to issues like that usually take some time. At least in our world. And you better believe that someone would exploit that development. Powerful creatures in the world would certainly pay handsomely for a potion that can restore even their massive hit point pools during battle. Imagine the Demon Lords stocking Max Potions for their favored lackeys, or Kings purchasing them to keep their champions on the field.

I also take issue with the tendency for everything to look more human as it becomes more powerful. This choice feels more centered around a desire to make the female characters sexually appealing than to make them compelling and interesting. On a similar note, the Demon Lord Milim’s costume is off-putting. Why does she walk around in clothes that don't even fit her properly? Again, this is a choice made that intends to reward the male gaze rather than create a compelling character. I don't think that skimpy clothing is wrong, but it needs to make sense with relation to the character. Milim is a kinda goofy and child-like person, and a skimpy outfit doesn't make sense in that context.

As you may have gathered, I'm not as excited by Slime as I was earlier in the series. My recommendation is therefore made with some reservation. If you really care about politics and strategy, this might still be a good series for you. If you enjoy breast physics, there might be something for you here as well. As for me, I'll probably finish watching this season due to the sunk cost fallacy and a sense of inertia. But at this point, if you aren't already watching, I don't recommend picking it up.

The last little bit of news that I would like to share is that I've successfully paired one of my old WiiU Pro controllers to my computer and figured out how to play Stardew Valley with it. I never got super into Stardew Valley, in part because I have never been a big Harvest Moon fan. I think they are fine games in concept, but they don't hold my attention very well. On top of that, I was not a fan of the mouse and keyboard control scheme in the PC version. Now that I have a portable computer and a controller, I'll be much more inclined to play it. Maybe Crystal and I can try out the co-op? We had been planning to for some time, but never got around to it.

And that's it. I'll be spending my time tomorrow running around: first with an 11 mile training run, a breakfast meeting, and then heading out to my favorite running store to get some new shoes. I hope to catch you all again next time. Until then, have a great week and game on.

According to the ABC there are 19 parties vying for votes in the 2021 Western Australia State Election, which is coming up on Saturday. Some of them are good, some of them are very very not. Let’s go through each!

Animal Justice Party

The Animal Justice Party is a single-platform party masquerading as a multi-platform party, and while they have bland but reasonable positions on common issues everything, and I mean everything, on their page circles back to animals. Mental Health? Animal therapy and volunteering are good for that! Foreign Policy? We only care about trophies and wildlife trade! Domestic Violence? Abusers kick puppies, not just spouses! You get the idea. They mean well, but I don’t think they’re even close to a top pick, especially considering some of their odder platforms (banning processed meat sales to minors like they’re cigarettes, sure ok).

Vote for them if you’re the epitome of the obnoxious vegan.

Australian Christians

I mean, obviously I’m not religious, but I’m pretty sure these folks don’t speak for all Christians. They’re first on the list of whackjobs, anti-abortion and same-sex marriage, pro “sexual morality” (read: puritanism) and have out-of-context bible quotes on their statement of intents. Oh, sorry, statement of beliefs. Clicking on this webpage made my skin crawl- protip, if a person or party claims to support “family values” or “Christian ideals” 99 times out of 100 they’re just using it to justify bigotry.

Daylight Savings Party

There are two really obvious jokes here screaming at me to be made. The GAP wants to make Australia great again, and despite the name it doesn’t involve jeans. These guys think taxes are bad but it would be good if they were instead handled by corporations, which is the most laughably stupid idea that itd be enough to bottom-vote them just on that- fortunately, their stance on firearms (we’ll get to it later) and immigration (withdrawing from UN treaties, seriously?) make it pretty clear they’re just a bunch of cunts. Their policy pages complain about political correctness and want to make fucking with a flag a crime like it is in the US, so the comparisons to a certain US party keep going.

Vote for them if you’re the proud owner of a red hat that your children will burn out of shame.

Health Australia Party

The fact that these people have an entire page dedicated to going “no, we aren’t anti-vax, we just have a lot of concerns” answers any questions you could possibly have. They also advocate for “natural medicine” to be placed on equal footing with, you know, medicine, which is obviously not a great idea.

Also, that they spell it “anti-vacc” and that their policy list is in fucking Calibri bugs me to no end.

Vote for them if you’re on a lemon detox.

Legalise Cannabis Western Australia

Take a guess. Take a wild fucking guess what single issue these guys are about. I don’t even have anything against this idea, their policies aren’t awful or anything, but it’s a heck of a hill to spend so much of your time on.

Vote for them if you’re high off your tits, I guess.

Liberal Democrats

What is this, libertarians? I’ll be frank, most of their policies are rooted in economics stuff I don’t really understand, but they’re against COVID lockdowns. You know, despite how effective they’re shown to be around here since we don’t fuck them up (mostly).

These guys seem to be one of the bigger of the small parties but their website is super unhelpful so ???

Liberal Party

The first of the two major parties. They lost power in the last state election, and I couldn’t be more thankful- they’d been doing nothing but cock up for years at that point, and the premier was a fucking joke. Considering that their leader has apparently already conceded defeat, I suspect they aren’t looking to repeat the process.

The Liberals seem to be the default for a lot of people, thanks to their incalculable media bias and being one of the big two. I suppose if you’re reading this, you aren’t voting for them anyway.

If you voted in the last election, you might remember a party called the Flux network, which was a party where their policy was just online voting for everything. This is, uh them again? But they seem more concerned about climate than last time.

They think they’re soooo fucking smart. Confident incorrectness can be funny at times, but not when such a huge issue is at stake.

Oh christ she’s still trying this shit? Pauline Hanson was a fish and chip shop owner who made a political party to get her xenophobic bullshit out on the national stage, and was arrested for election fraud, yet still is allowed to run a party for some reason. She’s switched the target of her ire from China to the Middle East to reflect modern bigotry better, but it’s the same old shit. The only good thing ever to come about her was the Pauline Pantsdown song, and she obviously wasn’t involved in that.

Shooters Fishers and Farmers

Oh and the hits just keep coming. Funnily enough I don’t have an issue with their fishery policy, but that’s not the main one, obviously. Australia has harsh gun control laws on account of a mass shooting back in 1997, and we’ve stayed that way for 23 years with, shockingly, no further mass shootings (that I’m aware of). You can disguise your policy by saying its for the sport all you want, but I’ve got no interest in bringing guns back to WA.

Vote for them if you think the NRA having massive political sway in the USA is a good thing.

Socialist Alliance

Full disclosure, I consider myself a socialist, so I’m probably a little biased here. But yeah, these look like good policies. They want to remove the USA military presence in Australia which I am personally very for, they support royal commission into the big banks which should have been done a decade ago, and they want to lower the voting age to 16 which considering that the youth are generally more politically minded these days seems fair enough to me. I’m for it.

Vote for them if you would have voted for the Greens, and don’t know which to put higher.

Sustainable Australia

Despite the name, the policy of this party is more concerned about population than climate, an issue I’m not sure is especially pronounced in this neck of the woods. I’d put them fairly middle of the road, seeing as they have some policies I’m for (no new coal mines or fracking) and some I’m very against (increased police funding, lowered immigration).

Why everything is alphabetical until this and the next one are beyond me. I don’t agree with everything they’ve done in the past 4 years, but their track record is certainly better than the Liberals. Still, they’re not going to be the top of my preference sheet.

We don’t matter enough to target.

it’s absolutely ok! i get a little bitter when people take my work WAY out of context (for example, straight people removing the caption that says “im just really gay” before tagging their bf/gf) but i am 100% ok and happy with people relating to my work in a different way than i intended (ex: a comic i made about being ashamed of my derma getting reblogged by someone struggling to be ok w their visible burn scars)

ohh um! im not sure which pens youre referring to, but if you mean the ones I use for my comics, i color them with Winsor & Newton ProMarkers, and I do the lines with a purple fine-point Sakura Gelly Roll Classic pen! i also use micron pens of all different sizes and colors in some of my non-diary comic art!
