Mornings with Moche & Miguel (and Baby Rosalia)

CEMICHE - Miguel O'hara x Inca-Spider Moche Huapaya

Mama Moche is a true Matriarch. And Miguel loves it.

The O'Hara-Huapaya Household can be a bit unconventional.

Raised in Earth 802 - a futuristic version of the Inca Empire, Moche's culture is known for having big families. My nana had 13 siblings. My father had 9.

Moche & Miguel have a sensible EIGHT.

And Miguel couldn't ask for more. (Literally. He can't take anymore, he's gonna lose his mind)

The Babies:

A daughter, two sets of twins - identical AND fraternal, and a trio of baby girls their babies are named - Rosalia, Diego & Mateo, Miguel Jr & Gabriel Jr, Isabella, Camilla, & Valinda aka Rosa, Di-O, Maddy, Junior, Riel, Bella, Cam, and Linda

Rosalia O'Hara-Huapaya

Their oldest - Rosalia - is the apple of Miguel's eye, and a little terror. Almost the exact opposite from Gabriella, Rosa is a loud, talkative, rambunctious tasmanian devil of a child (in the best way possible), and she enjoys playing in creeks, talking to Lyla, and rawr-ing at things. Born with Miguel's unstable DNA - paired with having a dual-universe coded DNA similar to Miles' - Rosalia (as well as all of their children) must take stabilizing shots, the same as their dad. Each child experiences the effects to a different degree. As a result, Rosalia possesses retractable fangs, red eyes and super strength, the same as her father. And as she grows older, Rosa even develops her own venom - one known for causing excruciating pain in addition to paralyzation. Conceived almost immediately after their marriage, Rosalia has always looked up to her dad. And although they have a complicated relationship for much of her life (mainly due to the fear of living in Gabriella's shadow), Rosalia and Miguel are extremely close, and extremely alike - Trained by her father at Spider HQ for most of her life, Rosalia one day grows up to be 'Viper' - a snake themed anti-hero.

Up-Bringing:

Raising their children in Moche's village back on 802 - Moche and Miguel's have a traditional and loving Quechua family with Moche as their mami and Miguel as their taita (dad in Quechua). Their kids speak Moche's native language - Quechua, and Spanish as their first languages (with English after that). And all of their kids were born in the traditional Quechua sense - homebirths with only Moche, and Miguel as her midwife. Being from a communal and communist culture, raising eight kids is a lot less hectic than it sounds, and it's not usual to have all the kids in one place unless it's night time. Different kids are integrated into different places in the community, with multiple people watching one or two kids at a time. [Ex: Miguel might take Rosalia and Diego with him to HQ, while Mateo stays at the Inti temple back on 802. MJ watches Miguel & Gabriel Jr., while Moche is at home with the triplets. After, Moche goes to the temple to get Mateo, and Miguel picks up the fraternal juniors on his way home from work.] With each kid affected by Miguel's mutated DNA, combined with having parents of two different universes, each of their eight kids experience a different level of effect and treatment. Trained by their mother and father as an elite unit, most of their kids goes on to be a hero, anti-hero, or agent in some capacity. Rosalia goes on to become the anti-hero, Viper. Diego & Mateo go on to become twin-heros Katari & Kuntur a.k.a Tari & Tur - Katari meaning 'Snake' (Diego), and Kuntur meaning 'Condor' (Mateo). The snake and condor being two sacred animals in Andean religion (symbolizing the underworld and overworld respectively) Miguel & Gabriel become experts in AI and multiverse technologies. Isabella becomes a healer - taking her mothers mantle as Avatar, gaining her powers comparable to Rosalia. Camilla & Valinda are not heros - Cam is a Boxer/Private Investigator & Valinda is a professional gymnast.

The Timeline:

Rosalia - their first - was conceived almost immediately after their wedding. Though having grown up an only child herself, Moche feared Rosalia being an only child, and Miguel agreed, so they tried for another. Diego & Mateo - their second and third - are identical twins. Miguel's first boys, and his first set of multiples. Having boys, plural, was definitely and adjustment, but everyday Miguel fell in love with being a dad more and more, even when the days got hectic. So when Moche accidentally got pregnant again - he thought 'What's one more, four's a good number.' When the village elder told them she'd be having twins again - boys again - Miguel didn't believe her. I mean, the mystic woman was reading coca leaves and river stones - so how much could she really know? A lot. Cause she was right. Miguel & Gabriel - their fourth and fifth - are fraternal twins. Named after Miguel and his late brother Gabriel, the two often go by 'Riel' and 'Junior'. Five kids. Five kids Miguel adores. But FIVE KIDS. ONE girl and FOUR BOYS. ALL CLOSE IN AGE (Like within 4/5 years of each other) ALL SUPER-POWERED. Miguel loves it - Miguel is EXHAUSTED. But they're like super-parents. And they finally have the family they want. But more than anything, Miguel wants one more girl - a sister for Rosalia. And with Rosalia not showing interest in the path of curandera (a healer) - they both figured, 'hey, why not ONE more'. One more was okay. Six was good - six was Miguel's LIMIT. And like - the chances of Moche having twins AGAIN is next to zero. So they agreed to try for one more. They went to the Inti temple together, to pray to Mama Allpa - the fertility god of Moche's people - for a daughter. Seeing the sincerity and desire in their hearts, Mama Allpa received their prayer - and gave them triplets. This time, Miguel believed the village elder. He passed out when he heard. Isabella, Camilla, & Valinda are identical triplet girls, their youngest (and LAST Miguel swears), bringing the total up to eight. Just like Moche wanted. She's very happy with this outcome. And so is Miguel.

Pregnancy:

Moche & Miguel pride themselves on having traditional Inca pregnancies, according to the traditions of her country. For the Incas, pregnancy was the ultimate test of marriage and commitment - with the husband expected the utmost attention and care to his wife. Needless to say, this is something Miguel loves - an excuse to treat his wife like a big softie. Usually a tough cookie and a workaholic, Miguel gets to act like his 4'11 warrior of a wife is a fragile, glowing queen for 9 months straight. Which, paired with Moche's pregnancy irritability can usually result in what Miguel likes to call 'Matriarch Moche'.

Having been through 4 pregnancies throughout their marriage, during this time Miguel often becomes Moche's caretaker - a role her village takes very seriously (they've got their eye on him). A time where a couple is almost inseparable, Moche & Miguel are no different. And it can extend to everything from making her meals to opening doors for her.

Unlike Jessica though, Moche does NOT do Inca-Spider stuff while pregnant. (Even Miguel was like 'yeah not happening')

And since her and Miguel are always together, that usually results in an irritable and hangry Moche padding around Miguel's lair barefoot with food court food while he does his usual work.

He'll continue his work of being boss and handling missions - while occassionally stop to dote over his wife he just wants to watch soap operas in peace.

The two usually trade responsibilities around this time - with Moche handling most of the Society administrative work, while Miguel handles most of the active mission work, and watching over her universe.

Usually a formidable fighter and a fiercely independent, Pregnancy one of the rare times Moche feels like she can put her self in someone else's hands - knowing that she should reserve her spiritual energy for her baby.

And Miguel is more than happy to oblige (most of the time).

Miguel: *Giving an mission briefing to the Spidey-teens* I need you all to FOCUS, I'm serious. Every detail of this mission must be followed to- Moche: *from Miguel's platform* Miguel, I'm getting heartburn. Also, I can't find the remote. Miguel:.....ask Lyla to change the channel. Moche:..Migggueeell, where's the garbage bag? I'm feeling the nausea again. Why did you give me queso? Eating that queso was a horrible idea- Lyla: Miguel, you better hustle. Last time she barfed on your desktop my server was out for 2 hours. Miguel:....*sighs* If you'll excuse me.. I- just a minute.

Birth:

All of the O'Hara-Huapaya children were born in the traditional Incan way - by their parents, with no extra assistance. In Moche's tradition, there is no midwife or doctor - that responsibility falls unto the husband, to educate himself and support the mother of his child. This is what Moche wanted, wanting the moment to be shared solely by them. Admittedly, the days leading up to Rosalia's birth were terrifying for Miguel, and he did exhaustive research. And as her husband, it was his responsibility to prepare the space for her, deliver the baby, and help ease her pain - with aid just a call away if they needed. Rosalia's birth was not an easy one, with Moche choosing to give birth in the upright position - but Rosalia is born healthy and safe, and Miguel doing so well, that they gave birth to the other seven just the same (thought with the triplets, it did require a little help, that's SO many babies). After the birth, Rosalia was bathed and dressed by her godparents (Asa & Jess) before spending the night with Miguel while Moche recovered. The morning after Moche was prepared by the Mamaconas to meet her daughter. Miguel and Moche love this - Moche feels like it helps her shoulder the responsibility of pregnancy, and their babies' health. And with Miguel directly involved with every step, it allows him to understand her and their baby on a deeper level. Although Miguel had only asked for one, the first night alone with Rosalia, he knew he wanted as many as Moche would give him.

About Moche's Maternity Outfit:

Moche's outfit takes inspiration from a number of actual Moche, Inca, or Quechua sources - including this outfit of a Moche girl from an exhibit in Peru.(left). Moche's forearm tattoos are also inspired directly from the tattoos found on The Lady of Cao - a mummy found in Peru. The Lady of Cao was thought to be a potential priestess or ruler - and as Moche holds the title of village healer, she has similar ink. Moche wears a headdress similar to a rising sun. As a Mamacona (priestess of The Sun God Inti), the sun holds a lot of significance for her. Moche wears the headdress throughout her pregnancy as a signal to others the 'rising of a new sun' - or rather the in-coming birth of her child. The sash at her waist is woven, and underneath embroidered with symbols in order to spiritually protect and shield the babies.

4 - "Could you not be a show-off while we're trying to stay alive!"

(Set in the Silver timeline)

Cobalt Team were among the highest-performing Spartan teams. They had been hardened into a cohesive unit since they were six years old, and it showed. Ice water ran through their veins. They were efficient, they were precise, and they were deadly. Unfortunately, even the best of the best had bad days.

This was a bad day.

They'd been scouting ahead for an extraction detail - yet another in a long list of embarrassingly meaningless tasks ever since Silver Team had dropped the ball and made the entire SPARTAN program a liability in the eyes of the Powers That Be. For this particular mission, Silver Team was even sent along. No one knew why not one but two Spartan fireteams had been assigned babysitting duty, but then... they weren't the type to question orders. They'd leave that to John and his band of misfit toys.

Cobalt had just split off to check a new NAV marker when they came under fire. It took only a matter of seconds for the grizzled soldiers to realize that they were well and truly surrounded - and in deep trouble to boot.

"Elite, nine o'clock," Cobalt's leader, Val-015 called out stoically. He put a three-round burst into the towering alien's center-mass. Its shields flared brightly, then cracked. Yaz-112 put a single round from her DMR through the creature's skull, its dark blue innards spraying outward in a fine mist.

Val shifted his aim. "Cobalt Three, half a dozen jackals creeping up the right flank."

"I see them, I see them!" Karim-002 barked. He distracted the vaguely avian creatures with a few burst from his battle rifle before lobbing an M9 fragmentation grenade over top of their shields. A second and a half later, their angry squawks were silenced permanently.

Cobalt were good at what they did. Quick. Efficient. Deadly.

As Val consulted the dozens of incoming enemy contacts on his motion tracker, it suddenly dawned on him that it wouldn't be enough.

"Where's Silver when you need them?" Karim asked no on in particular as he knocked down a trio of Grunts with a few well-placed shots. "John's always around to act like he's the be-all end-all of hardcore soldiers, but when you actually need him? Something better always-"

Whatever Cobalt Three had been about to say was lost in the violent report of a Condor's chin-gun. The dense foliage around the fireteam erupted into shrapnel and neon-colored plumes of blood as the UNSC dropship rose seemingly from nowhere and began to burn down the encroaching enemies.

The carpet-fire was enough to give Cobalt a brief reprieve - and then the Condor was spinning around, its gangplank hanging open and waiting to receive them. Karim groaned audibly when he recognized John-117 standing on the lowered ramp, one arm outstretched heroically.

"Come on!" the Spartans' squad leader bellowed, firing an M6 into the woods.

Cobalt scrambled onto the Condor, both Val and Yaz allowing the Chief to help them aboard. Karim stiffly refused the other Spartan's help, opting to fling himself into the hovering dropship under his own power.

Once the troop bay was sealed tight and they were headed back to their carrier, John made his way to Karim's side.

"Are you injured, Spartan?" he asked, his voice surprisingly gentle for the man who had become so synonymous with warcraft that the UNSC had all but painted him as their mascot.

"I'm fine," Karim snapped. Then he sighed heavily, staring at his boots. Finally he lifted his eyes to glare at John's visor. "Just... could you not be a show-off while the rest of us are trying to survive?"

John stared at him in silence, the small twitch of his head the only indication that Karim's annoyed request had any effect on him. "Sorry," he finally said, his tone heavy-laden. "I'll try not to in the future."

From the cockpit, Vannak-134 and Riz-028 laughed loudly.

13 - "I would rather be kissing you right now."

The UNSC Infinity was the greatest warship the UNSC had ever constructed. She was sleek, she was fast, and she was just as powerful as the most impressive weaponry the Covenant had ever managed to bring to bear.

Not the least impressive attribute of the Infinity was her Spartan Deck. S-Deck, as it was known by the ship's crew, was stocked with enough Brokkr System machines and training materials to keep an entire company of Spartans happy... and Blue Team was certainly taking advantage of that.

Kelly-087 in particular was enjoying herself immensely. With the Infinity's 'War Games' simulator, the fastest of all Spartans had finally found herself a worthy challenger: a training relay that combined all of the thrill of a life-and-death combat scenario with all of the competitive triumph of being able to run simulations over and over again until her need for perfection was finally satisfied.

"This is incredible," Kelly said excitedly between rounds. Blue Team had just sent Fireteam Boxer to the showers, thoroughly humiliated with their poor showing against the veteran Spartans. Next up on the chopping block was Grindstone. She couldn't wait to rub the upstarts' faces in her own squad's superiority.

"I couldn't imagine a better way to spend our day," she continued, jabbering excitedly. "Teaching these kids how real Spartans operate, only to line them up and knock them back down the very next day."

Although Blue Team held immense respect for the Spartan-IVs, it was undeniable that they all got a very real sense of satisfaction from knocking down the younger generation down a few pegs from time to time. While John and Linda smirked and nodded their concurrence, Kelly noticed that Fred merely cocked his head to one side curiously, and said nothing.

Curious herself, the Spartan leaned closer to the man. "Something wrong?" she asked quietly enough that only he could hear, studying his expression. They were close - close enough for her to feel the heat radiating off his unhelmeted head and to count the flecks of blue pockmarking the green of his eyes. Close enough that she could smell his breath, still minty from his toothpaste, and could see each tick and shift in his familiar face.

Fred glanced over at her and grinned, dimples forming small valleys in his cheeks. "Not a thing, Rabbit," he said with a twinkle in his eye that he seemed to reserve only for her, in moments like these when no one else would notice. "I was just thinking that there's at least one thing I could be persuaded to do instead of this."

Kelly shot back a grin of her own, raising her eyebrows in surprise. "And what might that be, LT?" she prodded.

"Nothing too important," Fred answered, his smile slowly transitioning into a smirk. "But I'd rather be kissing you right now."

With that, the Spartan slid his helmet back into place. "Time's up," he called out, turning his back on Kelly and slinging an MA5D over his shoulder. "Grindstone's waiting for us to show them up yet again... I'd hate to disappoint."

Kelly watched him confidently march away, her jaw dropping open ever-so-slightly in shock. Then, mustering all of her will-power, she closed her mouth with a click of her teeth and resolved to focus on the upcoming simulation. It wouldn't do her any favors to waltz in unprepared. But, she promised herself, she was definitely going to take Fred up on that offer.

Sooner than later.

Halo Reloaded: Battle On Madrigal

The battlefield on Madrigal was a maelstrom of violence, a cacophony of destruction where Spartans John-117 and Linda-058 stood as beacons of resistance amidst the chaos. The ground shook with the fury of the ongoing conflict, the air was thick with the stench of ozone and burned flesh, a testament to the ferocity of the battle.

Linda, her figure shrouded in an armor that pulsed with an almost ethereal light, moved with a grace that belied her lethal intent. Her newfound telekinetic powers, a gift borne from exposure to the arcane machinations of Forerunner technology, allowed her to dispatch foes with a mere thought. Her telekinesis, a wild, newfound ability, became an extension of her will, hurling debris and enemies alike with reckless abandon. A Covenant Elite, armed with a deadly energy sword, lunged at her with a ferocious roar, only to be met mid-air by a thrown Warthog, courtesy of Linda's mind, turning the attacker into a fiery comet of metal and alien flesh.

Meanwhile, John, the Master Chief, was a force of nature, embodying the fury of the storm. Weaponless but far from defenseless, he turned the battlefield into his armory. With a roar, he launched himself at a group of Hammer-Chieftains, ripping a Gravity Hammer from the hands of the nearest brute and swinging it with devastating effect. The ground erupted, sending Brutes flying like ragdolls. Hunters, those towering behemoths, launched volleys of Fuel Rod Cannon blasts, John, relying on his Spartan agility, dodged the incandescent blasts, closing the distance. He leveraged the hammer, not just as a weapon, but as a shield, deflecting incoming fire, closing in to exploit the brief window of vulnerability as the Hunters reloaded. Once the gap was closed, he used the Hammer to vault into the air, landing atop a Hunter, prying its armor plates apart before delivering a final, crushing blow.

In a moment of chaos, an unnoticed plasma grenade, its azure glow sinister and unassuming, flew across the field unnoticed like a comet and found its mark near Linda. The explosion, a maelangetic fireball, hurled her across the battlefield. Her armor, though designed to synergize with her powers, absorbed the brunt of the blast but at a cost. The impact left her dazed, her body refusing to obey, her powers flickering out like dying stars. Hunger gnawed at her insides, a reminder of her increased metabolism's demands.

John, upon seeing Linda's plight, cut through his adversaries with renewed vigor. His path to her side was a blur of motion, every step a defiance of the odds. Reaching her, he lifted her with a gentleness that belied his armored exterior.

"Linda, stay with me," he urged, voice laced with concern as he dodged incoming fire, making a beeline for the extraction point.

Her voice was faint, a testament to her exhaustion. "Can still fight... just need..." Her words trailed off, lost in the din.

"No arguments," he cut her off, his tone leaving no room for debate. "You've done enough. Now, let me do the rest."

The interior of the Condor was a stark contrast to the chaos outside. Here, in the dim light, the world seemed to slow down, the roar of battle a distant echo. John carefully placed Linda among the survivors, John pulls her helmet off, their eyes locking in a moment of silent understanding. "Don’t do this alone," Linda's voice was a whisper, tinged with desperation. "Please."

John's response was a soft, determined murmur. "I’ll make it back. For us." He brushed a lock of hair from her face, a momentary gesture of intimacy in a world devoid of gentleness.

He stepped back, his figure framed by the Condor's doorway, the light casting his shadow long and solemn across the cabin. As the Condor lifted off, Linda's gaze lingered on John, a silent plea in her eyes that he return safe.

John turned away, stepping into the maelstrom once more, his promise to Linda a beacon in the darkness. The Condor ascended, carrying away the wounded and weary, leaving behind the solitary figure of John-117 as he faced the horde anew, a lone guardian against the night.

Working on Sabrina made me realize I'd had feelings for her as a kid that I'm now more equipped to process, and working on Will, well, he's my ideal aesthetic if cost and comfort were not factors I had to consider. I wanna steal his spare clothes, cover 'em in rainbow glitter, and parade myself about showing off how obnoxiously stylish I would be. Seriously, this guy is so Gender! Shame he's so...underutilized, it seems.

This is once again in no specific order because they’re all very different shows and all top tier imo.

1. Parks and Recreation

My favorite sitcom I have rewatched it soo many times and was so sad when it got moved to streaming on Peacock but then my cousin got Peacock and now I leech onto their account to watch it.

2. Schitts Creek

Elite sitcom! So funny, so heartfelt, Dan Levy you are my fav nepo baby and I accuse nepotism for this show. And Miora Rose iconic.

3. Space Force

Another tragic betrayal from Netflix by canceling this show. I love Ben Schwartz and space.

4. The Get Down

This was the first betrayal I ever experience from Netflix and you may be saying hey I’ve never heard of The Get Down before we’ll it’s because it featured a fully poc cast and told a beautiful story of the start of hip hop and fall of disco from the perspective of young teens from the Bronx in the 70s and Netflix didn’t promote it at all. It was directed by Baz Luhrmann ya know the guy that did Romeo and Juliet with Leo DiCaprio. This show was beautiful and amazing and I cried when I found out they canceled it. Still the story ends pretty well with only a slight cliffhanger that Baz later clarified what would actually happen so if your looking for a show to watch I very highly recommend this one . It’s incredible, the soundtrack is amazing, there are lgbt characters, I mean I can’t ever say enough.

5. Once Upon a Time

The chokehold this show had me on since I was 11. Unparalleled. I love everyone in this show like family, each character means so much to me it’s insane. Last season was eh they were trying too hard to keep it alive but that’s shows now a days. Gif of the queen herself.

6. Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin

Speaking of shows that had me in a chokehold the orginal pretty little liars was one of them. I was obsessed and they lost me the last few season after trying to hard to keep the show alive. A good show has an ending you don’t have to keep adding more to it. That being said I did not think this reboot/spin-off would be good but oh boy is it. I mean there is a slasher killer, it’s beautifully shot, and the cast is great.

7. Derry Girls

I absolutely love this show! I love everything about it. I pretend I have an Irish accent every time I watch it (sorry to any Irish followers but I think it’s a pretty decent attempt). This show is hilarious and I can’t wait to watch the final season.

8. Shadow and Bone

This show led to a downward spiral into the Grishaverse series and I am perfectly okay with it. I am still read every book in the series I’m on the final six of crow book rn. This show is soooo good I cried first episode for some reason. The cast is so hot. The characters and storylines are everything.

9. New Girl

Last but not least, this show is iconic. The friendships, the jokes, everything. Love it.

10. DEADLY CLASS

This!!! this show is one of the greatest shows to ever exist and I’m sooooo mad it got canceled. It’s based on a comic it’s one season I highly recommend despite the cliff hanger (because technically no cliff hanger if you jsut look up what happens in the comics). I love this show so much I did write a fan fic about it on Wattpad it’s called Medusa if you want to check it out. Literally Marcus (pictured above) the most incredible and stupid character ever I love him; the sass he has amazing. You will love all the characters as much as you hate them sometimes it’s great. Lana Condor is in it and so is Benedict Wong. If you like marvel movies the Russo brothers are producers.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake

I had a love-hate relationship with Final Fantasy for a long time. Outside of Final Fantasy Tactics, I’ve never connected with a game in the series despite being a self-proclaimed JRPG fan. I just never managed to find the fun with them. That includes Final Fantasy VII. I remember playing it. I think I made it a little bit into disc 2 before moving onto something else.

So, unlike a lot of folks, I was not anxiously awaiting the remake. Nor was I precious about preserving the sanctity of the original release. For me, it was just a major JRPG release. I usually play those. And so I plunged into my Final Fantasy 7 Remake experience.**

Right off the rip, I love the new combat system. You’re running around and attacking in real time, but when you go into a menu to use an ability or an item, the game slows to down to a crawl that might as well be a pause. This would have saved Final Fantasy X-2 for me. Please, please, PLEASE do not batter me about while I’m digging through menus.

You start off playing as just mopey, grumpy, emo-ass bitch boy Cloud Strife but soon you’ll have a small gang of outlaws and attractive young ladies joining you in combat. Swapping between characters is painless and makes combat feel more interactive than most in the genre.

The game gets into a lot of currently relevant topics such as class disparity, climate change, and the harm inflicted by unchecked, powerful corporations. Even if the game doesn’t always handle these things with the most serious tone* it feels more real and relatable than “The Big Evil is taking over and going to destroy the entire planet.” The story mostly takes place in a poor, working-class community living quite literally beneath the wealthy elites up above them who are killing to planet for their own gains.

Sound familiar?

Anyhoo, Square Enix some way, somehow, announced this game too early, made everyone wait and wait for it, made considerable STORY changes to a beloved classic game...and pulled it off. They could have played it safe with this remake and stuck to the original script, but they bet on themselves and it paid off. It lets players old and new play a game with fresh eyes. Veterans don’t know with certainty where the story is going. Would I feel the same if I had the original release up on a pedestal? I’d like to think so.

I had some concerns with how some aspects of the story would hold up some 20 years later. Like a lot of 90′s media, there’s some casual homophobia going on with Final Fantasy 7. And Cloud’s whole brooding “I’m an asshole because I have a tortured past” along with Aerith and Tifa fawning over him because they can fix him...it all feels a little tired now. Still, the optimism of Tifa and Aerith are a refreshing counter to Cloud’s darkness, and the “Who is best girl?” debate is still alive and well. Tifa? Aerith? Maybe Jessie, who just wants to be Cloud’s fuck buddy? No wrong answers here.

And the whole Honeybee Inn section with Cloud crossdressing was absolutely terrific. Less terrific was the whole Don Corneo section. Some pretty gross implications with Tifa and Aerith being gassed, then left to be gang raped by the dudes that work for Corneo. That made his whole over the top, bumbling persona play pretty poorly for me. Then again, maybe the developers wanted me to feel uncomfortable and to really hate that dude. Mission accomplished.

The DLC centered around Yuffie was a blast as well. She’s fun to play, the Fort Condor minigame was more engaging than it had any right to be, and it got me ready to go for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth which should be out within the year. I do wish Yuffie would button her shorts all way up considering her age, but that’s a me problem. Playing Crisis Core sold me on Zack as a great foil to Cloud personality-wise. I’ll take oblivious and optimistic over mopey and brooding any day of the week.

I’m all in on whatever Square Enix wants to do with the franchise. Nomura take the wheel.

*Nor is it trying to, and I don’t need my Final Fantasy games to be gravely serious **Final Fantasy 7 Remake will forever be entrenched in my mind as last game I played pre-pandemic.

Manu and the 1964’s dictatorship Part I

Hold on cause this is going to be long

* so, I wanna start this with the fact that for Manu the first 2 years were probably very confusing for her. Cause at first she thought for a moment that all military discourse about “we’re saving Brazil from the communists” and “we’re putting order” could actually be a good thing

* I mean from most of Latin America countries the Cuban Revolution not only had a huge influence and impact in the social movements, but also helped to spread “Red Scare” even more.

* And then you had a 19 year old Manuela, in the middle of Cold War, finally setting up for a Non Aligned diplomacy, having to deal with a political crisis made by Jânio Quadros resign, and also trying to mend the lingering consequences of Varga’s suicide in 1954. The girl was on the verge of a anxious attack, but having to conceal everything inside of her, cause if there’s one thing Manuela love is sweeping every “minor” issues under the rug and put up a smile (preying for the best)

* On the other side you had Manu’s never endings desire to finally consolidate as Latin America’s power house. she sided with the victors of WII (after Vargas pounding a lot which side would benefit more) waiting for new position in the post war scenario that would come, and where was her reward??

* Now add all this internal struggling with Alfred’s paranoiac and overbearing self after what happened with Cuba.

* I headcanon Alfred having an extremely distorted heroic view of himself, especially when it came to dealing with his Latin American neighbors. He sees himself as some kinda of a “liberator” of the Americas, he’s the one who kicked his colonizer father first (coughHaitididitbetterthoughcough). He with all his liberal ideals who knows better than his poor neighbors, and of course, should be the one “””guiding””” them.

* A fucking condescending son of bitch that’s what he is

* When Cuba kicked him out in 1959 that heroic illusion was shattering and Al couldn’t bear the idea of another of neighbors deciding going against him and siding with Ivan, even more when it was one as big as Manu. A continental Cuba to haunt him.

* Now going back to Manu

* Brazil’s boss, Jango, (the vice president who succeeded in power after Jânio Quadros resign) with a more laboristic left leaning ideology going for new social politics, like finally setting up for a new land reform, and closing ties with China.

* Please keep in mind he was not a Communist, and at that time Brazil’s communist party was extremely weak and has its leader exiled.

* also said, it didn’t mean that other social movements, like Ligas Campesinas, weren’t working at the moment.

* Jango had a very hard time staying in the Office, he had to deal not only with internal problems like Campanha da Legalidade, but also the international (read US and Europe) pressure.

* All this movements only helped to increase the US believe that Brazil would fall under a communist rule (a joke i know).

* With the support of Brazil’s elite, the Catholic Church, and of course, the military (who has always been a far right reactionary force), the US advanced in Plan Condor and decided to support the coup d’etat made by the military.

* And this support came in all the aspects it could be, financially, ideologically, creating organizations with the only

* Alfred knows Manu’s desire to aspire like him, and he knew how to manipulate her into his wishes too.

* Manuela knew very well the damage that a institutional rupture brings to a nation, but she let Alfred’s pressure (and her own greed) blind her into the ideal that the military would still be a better option. That all the “collateral” issues could be overcome with time, I mean, they’d only be there for the time to clean up all mess and go right??

* But as we know that didn’t happened, this nightmare was only beginning and would last for 21 years

Reactionary dictatorships can be broadly distinguished by the segment of the ruling class whose interests they primarily represent. These are just preliminary thoughts and there are definitely others, but rough classifications might look like this:

The old ‘conservative authoritarian’ regimes of interwar Europe were deployed to uphold pre-liberal power structures and values (church, crown, aristocracy) and revitalize them with experiments in corporatism and militarization. Many of these regimes attempted to mimic fascist revolution in the 1930s-40s – such as Salazar's Estado Novo or Pétain's Révolution nationale – but dedicated fascists were marginalized or crushed and, in the case of Portugal and Spain, these para-fascist dictatorships were later able to defascistize into purely conservative, ‘integral Catholic’ ones. It seems to me that at least in Europe, this type of regime died in the 1970s with the Carnation Revolution, the death of Franco, and the collapse of the Greek junta.

In societies where the power of traditional elites has been wiped out, there are those regimes whose reaction is fundamentally bourgeois; Pinochet is probably the most well-known example, and authoritarian tendencies in liberal and neoliberal democracies are microcosms of the same phenomenon. A significant subcategory, or possibly heavily overlapping separate category, is neocolonial kleptocracies reinforced from outside, including the Marcos dictatorship, the Shah's Iran, and Operation Condor.

Also fundamentally bourgeois, but distinct from your Parks and Pinochets, are conservative ‘electoral autocracies’ mostly peculiar to the twenty-first century which combine ‘reformist’ ultra-nationalism and religious conservatism to gradually ‘authoritarianize’ the political system. There are distinctions to be made within this: Putin, Erdoğan, and Modi all embrace a militaristic machismo that seems to be alien to Orbán, for instance. Early Fascist Italy was something like this, with the important difference that Mussolini came to power on the back of an overtly revolutionary and totalitarian mass movement that the others lack.

And lastly there are places where traditional elites were never marginalized at all but successfully adapted ultra-conservative power structures to an increasingly globalized capitalist world, allowing royal, religious, aristocratic, and tribal elites to partner fully with the bourgeoisie in engineering a system both thoroughly modernized and profoundly reactionary, Saudi Arabia being the most infamous living example. It occurs to me that Imperial Japan may have been on the way to something similar.

Tradição é campeã da Série Prata e retorna à Marquês de Sapucaí

A escola de samba Tradição celebrou uma vitória emocionante na noite desta terça-feira (20), ao conquistar o campeonato do segundo dia de desfile da Série Prata, pela Superliga Carnavalesca do Brasil. Após uma década afastada da passarela do samba, o Condor do Campinho garantiu o título e o seu retorno ao Sambódromo da Marquês de Sapucaí em 2025, integrando agora a prestigiada Série Ouro da Liga RJ.

A trajetória rumo ao título foi marcada por momentos de tensão e emoção. A Tradição desfilou como a sétima escola no dia 16 de fevereiro, competindo de perto com a Renascer de Jacarepaguá até os instantes derradeiros. O desfecho foi decidido pela última nota do último quesito: a Bateria. Com um 9,9 para a vermelho e branco e um 10 para a azul e branco, a Tradição assegurou o campeonato, levando sua diretoria e comunidade ao delírio. Além disso, a Botafogo Samba Clube também conquistou o acesso ao vencer o grupo do primeiro dia de desfile.

A presidente Raphaela Nascimento, radiante com a vitória, dedicou o título ao seu pai, o saudoso Nésio Nascimento, fundador e presidente de honra da agremiação. Em suas palavras, expressou a emoção do momento e a gratidão pela jornada: "Dedico este campeonato ao meu pai. A promessa foi cumprida. Trabalhamos para isso e fizemos um lindo desfile. Ele ressaltou a importância do enredo como um ato político, afirmando: "Não foi apenas um enredo, foi um ato político, onde gritamos por igualdade, liberdade e amor”.

Com uma história de 39 anos, a Tradição do Campinho já foi parte da elite do carnaval carioca por sete anos consecutivos, de 1998 a 2005. Relembrada especialmente pelo desfile de 2001, quando homenageou o apresentador Silvio Santos com o enredo "Hoje é Domingo, é Alegria, Vamos Sorrir e Cantar", a escola está agora preparada para desfilar na Marquês de Sapucaí, pela Série Ouro da Liga RJ, no próximo ano.
