Exactly 202 years ago today, on June 18, 1821 Carl Maria von Weber conducted the world premiere of his opera "Der Freischütz" in the Royal Theater Berlin. An overwhelming success.
The two postcards from 1904 and 1903 show the romanticism of this work.

Me as kid: I want to be a teacher!
Adults: A music teacher?
Me:Haha maybe, but I also want to be teacher for the core subjects!
Highschool me: Idk I've considered maybe being a therapist in the future?
Adults: Oh like music therapy?
Highschool me: haha, maybe I'll include some techniques of music therapy, but I'm actually more interested in traditional talk therapy.
Me now: ooo I want to learn how to sound design!
Others: Oh that will be useful for music!
Me: haha yah, absolutely will probably take music gigs, but I'm actually more intrigued on the SFX/Dialogue side of things!
Me: I think I want to do something science related, maybe physics, but honesty geology looks cool so who knows.
Teacher: You should do Acoustic physics.
Me: haha maybe, but I really am more interested in stuff like astrophysics, paleontology, or geology.
PLEEEEASE I KNOW I'M A MUSICIAN! I KNOW I'VE BEEN DOING IT AS A KID! BUT NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO GO BACK TO MY LOVE OF MUSIC. I CAN HAVE OTHER INTERESTS AND PASSIONS OUTSIDE OF MUSIC!!!!!!

Someone at some point once described classical music as soulless. Classical music is not soulless. It just doesn’t have a human soul. It has the soul of the forest, of a swarm of bees or a colony of ants. It sounds like a storm through a small seaside town or the migration from a forest fire. It’s usually reflective of the place it was written and I haven’t heard one yet that’s soulless. All music has a soul even if it’s not a human one.

Im. sorprised abt how into a human/modern muco au i am. Idk smth abt it. The isolationist themes. Also they would be a musican. I mean theyd have some job they can do from their computer at home but for the most part they'd be a musican. Completely self isolated in a little apartment. Musican as in they were trained as a kid in classical, probably some operatic stuff, now makes the most rancid horrible noise stuff w some lingua ignota vibes <3 and i shall doodle them a little w gyuu band au bc tee hee! More on that under cut its more sillay stuff so.

a short list of historical figures who were queer: because I need people to understand that queer people have always been here.
with sources, because I am, after all, a historian.
Most of these figures are musicans, it is because I am studying to be a historical musicologist (basically a music historian).
Leonard Berenstein– (1918-1990) Composer, conductor, musician. Known for his musical West Side Story. Most likely a gay man, perhaps bisexual. While there are plenty of letters and first hand confirmations that exist, this Guardian article conveys the information well enough.
Pytor Illich Tchaikovsky– (1840-1892) Russian composer, best known for his ballets: Swan Lake, and the Nutcracker, as well as his 1812 Overture, which features canon fire (and has become a meme on Tumblr). A gay man, as confirmed by multiple historians that have dedicated their life to his research, and by me, who spent a few weeks translating letters that talk about his love for men and his fear of what that would do to his life. This article talks about John Wiley (a historian) had to say about it.
Benjamin Britten– (1913-1976) Known for his vocal compositions, if you are an english classically trained vocalist you know Britten's compositions. Known especially for his War Requiem and his opera Peter Grimes. He and fellow musician Peter Pears had a long lived relationship. This article speaks about it more.
Ethel Smyth– (1857-1944) A lifelong disrupter, demanded (rightly so) for people to listen to her music in a time where women were not given the space to compose. A lesbian who fought for the right for women to perform and be a part of orchestras and conductor her own works when women conducters were few and far between. This article, written by a woman, speaks on her life well.
Francis Poulenc– (1899-1963) A Parisian man with a marked love of mostly men, but did father one daughter and dedicated a few compositions to her mother. This article speaks well on his love.
Alan Turing– (1912-1954) A gay icon of mine, Turing was a British Mathmetician and codebreaker who you have to thank for your phone and for the earlier end of the second World War. This article speaks about his life, as well as the film Imitation Game (2014) discusses it to some extent.
Freddie Mercury–(1946-1991) The beloved lead singer of the band Queen was a notourious queer icon, who had many love affairs with men but did say that he loved one woman when he was younger, for this reason, I will not say whether he was bisexual or gay. But a queer icon nonetheless. This article discusses the topic.
David Bowie– (1947-2016) A performer I have always loved and dearly miss, who is known for his bisexuality and fantastic outfits. This Billboard article discusses his sexuality. But it is important to note, that he came out as gay first, and then bisexual, which does not mean he was changing his mind or wanting to conform, but instead was becoming more comfortable with his own sexuality as he aged, something that should be a more generally accepted thing.
Leonardo da Vinci– (1452-1519) While there are guesses about this mans sexuality, it is generally believed and agreed upon that he was at least queer. While more research must be done, this article speaks on the subject well enough.
There are plenty more that I could talk about and that I want to talk about but that would take so long.
The most important thing: Queer people have always been here, and they are amazing and beautiful and deserved so much better than what history gave them.
Please reply with more (and sources) if you have them.

hewwo ?   /  /   MUN AND MUSE QUESTIONS  .  ♡
Tumblr media
List 5 of your muse’s favourite sensations .
a perfect breeze; not too cold, not too hard, just enough to whistle through the grass and trees, and remind you that the earth really can be a pretty place . . .
hearing the sound of laughter and warm conversation by your loved ones in the other room.
cold ice water with hints of fresh fruit inside, to flavor it.
a crowd tuned directly into you, effected by and influenced by the mood of your performance.
being trusted; being relied on.
Do they have any pet peeves ?
of course; who doesn’t ! here are some of the small, ‘insignificant’ things that minorly get on his nerves: medium-welldone/fried fish dishes ( fishies are best eaten fresh/raw in his humble onion, so he mourns to see it desecrated so... ), seeing people nail-biting, long text messages that are one big paragraph instead of broken up into smaller texts (i do that)... and if he has not met someone and pre-approved of them, he doesn’t like them telling him what to do or what not to do; this may lead him to commit acts of purely petty defiance against them . . .
Their comfort read ? (could be a book, magazine, comics, etc)
he preferred to read comic books as a kid, and some shonen manga’s. spiderman, batman, naruto, and godzilla comics being some of the major ones he reached for as a kid . . . so those would be the ‘comfort’ reads, though reading material is not what he’d usually reach for for comfort. but if he did, it would bring him some nostalgic comfort for a moment, . . . . until he got sad because oh no, the innocent childhood days of sitting on your bed reading a spiderman comic are gone, ahHhhHHhhhHH!!!!!
If the book they are reading turns out to be shit, do they push through just for the sake of finishing it, or do they move on and find something else ?
he doesn’t read for leisure very often, but the same sentiment can be applied to various things: tv shows, food, etc. tai will usually abandon things he isn’t getting enjoyment from . . . but the exception is when it was recommended to him by a friend, or if it’s their favorite book, something like that -- in which case, he will want to stick it out, to see what it’s all about . . . even if he doesn’t like it, he’ll want to finish it, in hopes it will help him understand that person better or be closer to them.
Their comfort tv show / film .
he can relate to suki on this one : D it’s definitely the 2000′s cartoons / animation he watched growing up !  pokemon, naruto, disney movies that came out around and before that time, studio ghibli films; those are a few examples of the type of thing. his parents definitely used the tv to ‘babysit’ him a lot when he was at home, lmaoo. his childhood doesn’t have a lot of happy memories, but the pretty stories on the tv screen were a distraction from that, and inspired his adolescent imagination when he needed an escape from that reality, so, they are near and dear to his heart.
A song that is currently stuck in their head ? (or multiple)
songs i have been listening to / or songs that i discovered recently, as they just came out within a few months of now . . . that he would like :  /   golden hour 😍     /   born to run  ( a classic but he’s like ‘damn bruce springsteen is THE DUDE... a man’s man... a musican-man’s-man... that man do be writing MUSIC AND SONGS.damb.....’ )  /    any way you want me   /    kids eat pills*    /
The next three questions are for you. do you have anything special in common with your character ?
not much of significance; some of my characters are very similar to me, but he’s one of my most different ones. our similarities are relatively superficial things ( we both have a passion for music, and luv animals, make a lot of jokes, -- things like that... ), nothing really ‘special’ and highly personal comes to mind atm tbh. personally i think i gravitate towards writing characters quite different than me; i just find that i have more fun that way !
What brings you the most joy about writing this character, right now ?
he’s sincere about who he is and what he feels-- even to a fault--, he’s witty & loves a good banter, he lives in the moment, and isn’t afraid to be silly or cringe ... but he contains a lot of depth, multitudes-- more than most will ever begin to uncover ... so he’s full of surprises, for those who choose to plumb those depths~ he’s just loads of fun to write!!
Who would win in a fight, you or them ?
him, for a million reasons asjjaj. among them, i’m WEAK like a limp noodle and SHORT, i don’t stand a chance. but it is for that reason that he’d never fight me lmao; he likes a challenge... or, dispatching a threat. i am neither, LOL.
Any advice from your muse ?
always be nice to your local 7-11 cashiers . . . if they like you, they will let you get free slushies every now and then, and let you take one of the candy bars by the register for free, too. ( sidenote: do not take any of the free hot dogs and/or gas station sushi they offer. it is not fit for consumption by mere mortals... ( who then, you ask, is it for? ) dare not thee question the ways of the 7-11 slurpee sage; he has spoketh.)
tagged by: @kamipyre thee freaking gREATEST tagging: um... hrm... who is alive out there who i haven’t seen tagged already... @seaprofound for the new bby boi perhaps ? :eyes: and @twojwrog UNLEASH MAGDA !!!!

ooh you were a musician? what flavour of musican were you?
i was a classically flavoured musician who played in many youth orchestras and bands, as well as pit orchestras for school musicals, but then i became disabled so now my brain just uses its "listen and adjust to the people around you" skills to accidentally pick up random bits of people's accents and idiolect

Just got back from the Bob Dylan concert, going to write a little concert review. It was an amazing concert. My expectations were low, but I was honestly kind of amazed how good it was. He mostly did stuff off of Rough and Rowdy Ways, but I found the live versions of the songs to be much more engaging than the album versions. His voice was a lot clearer and dynamic than on the album, especially on a powerful version of False Prophet and a haunting version of Crossing the Rubicon. I see a lot of older musicans in concert, and a lot of them seem to be struggling against the limits of their own voice, but Bob Dylan is kind of the opposite. He sings with such confidence, using the aged roughness of his voice to his advantage to hit lines with a kind of evil fierceness, yet at the same time proving himself capable of hitting the same kind of powerful sustained notes he did in his youth. Perhaps that's just because his vocal style has always been like this, but he sounded remarkably clear tonight. Interpreting lines with his usual off-killter sense of timing, the band played in lockstep, giving the songs a sense of cohesion they lack on any recordings. The band played beautifully, a simple jazz-blues-rock sound that felt extremely classic. Bob mostly played the piano and I was surprised at his skill at it. He got up from behind the piano to look out at the audience after nearly every song. He played harmonica for the intro of one song and it was simply stunning. I enjoyed hearing Most Likely You Go Your Way and I Go Mine with a slowed-down middle section, the fast version of I'll Be Your Baby Tonight, and Gotta Serve Somebody, which really had some dancable rock energy to it. To Be Alone With You having a slow intro and then picking up speed was also quite enjoyable. The audience added a lot, cheering and clapping after particularly good lines and dancing in the seats to the fast songs. It was nice to go to a concert so focused on lines and lyricism instead of just playing dancable hits. Key West and Mother of Muses were particularly spellbinding in that regard. I'm still thinking about how he sang some of the lines, giving them such emotion, and how the band swooped in, adding the perfect amount of tension to particularly powerful moments. He didn't say much in between songs but seemed to be in a good mood, I couldn't hear a word he said over a the cheering. They ended the show with a cover of Freind of the Devil, which made the audience extremely excited. Amazing concert. It wasn't particularly long or focused on playing the hits, but as a live version of the excellent Rough and Rowdy Ways album, I'd say it was even better than the official recordings, and the other songs were exciting reinterpretations of overlooked deep cuts.

It’s my current goal in life that everyone knows that in 1978, a bunch of musicans were forced by their labels to compete in a televised track and field day known as the “Rock ‘N Roll Sports Classic” and included such acts as:  Boston, The Commodores, ELO, Gladys Knight and the Pips, The Jacksons, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Runaways, Seals & Crofts, Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis, Jr., Rod Stewart, The Runaways, Kenny Loggins, Tanya Tucker, and Leif Garrett.
And that Kenny Loggins fucking dominated in each catergory he competed in- because he actually trained for it.
Also unsurprising that Jackie Jackson won his event considering he almost got scouted by national teams prior to the Jackson 5 being signed to Motown...but GOD, Michael just doesn’t want to be there. (I mean, he /says/ he’s having fun in his interview spot but boy...Joe really just made his kids do a lot of crap, huh? Also, how is it fair that LaToya and Janet are there? They were in the variety show and the vegas act but-).
