Forever is just another day. Forever is just another journey.
LIEUTENANT UHURA: THE CONSCIENCE OF THE KING: 2817.6
It might help to know that Uhura was singing these lines, not speaking them. In the context of a song, therefore, the words were probably less for meaning than for effect. After all, no one would seriously compare the entire scope of time to another humdrum day at the office, or a Sunday cruise around one's star system... Would they?
Maybe. Especially if the purpose of the song is to point out that "forever" isn't real; that it's only an illusion.
In fact it's an illusion we invented. Forever is simply a way of conceiving time. Like "space", it's a concept whereby we take a bite-sized unit of our experience and push it to its theoretical limits. And for no good reason.
Because the concept can end up squashing us. In the context of "forever", our lives can seem so meaningless, so insignificant. Compared to endless time, how can anything we do make a difference? Why act? Why care?
Uhura reminds us to keep our feet firmly planted in what we can experience. Since we live day-by-day, our individual acts have measurable significance. We can identify these acts, see their effects on ourselves and others, and connect them into a narrative which transforms our lives into a Voyage from Point A to Point B.
And now, once again, we are in the Captain's chair.
My life is no theoretical concept. I accept the gift - and the responsibility - of living in the now.

🚨Controversial opinon🚨
In the story of Christopher Pike, Spock is the ultimate villain.
In The Menagerie, when Spock goes to Pike on the starbase, Pike flashes “no” to Spock’s plan not once, not twice, not even three times. Four times — Pike says no. Pike does not want to go to Talos IV.
Yet Spock works with the Talosians to fake information, including an entire officer aboard the Enterprise. And Pike flashes assent that Spock is guilty of mutiny for what Spock is trying to do.
It’s only once they’re close to Talos IV — and the Talosians have not only power of illusion, but also power over computers (and Pike, of course, communicates by computer) — that Pike, after repeatedly flashing “no,” finally flashes a single “yes” to being taken to Talos IV.
Was that truly Pike’s wishes? Within the realities of the episode, I have no idea. And I’m angry that Pike’s consent for a monumental decision isn’t to be completely trusted. The Talosians also could have planted the image of Pike walking off with Vina hand in hand.
There is a reason for the ban on going to Talos IV. And I am disgusted by what Spock did to Pike — the ultimate betrayal.

As someone who is 6'5" and not the best with people skills, I can easily imagine doing this.

For the rare pairs: SGA or TOS? Whichever you want to do!
the weird thing for me with tos is that i have never (!!) read or written fanfic for it, so i feel weird planting my flag on any particular ship, but:
uhura/chapel i mean!!!!! when chapel is helping uhura regain her memory in "the changeling"... 🥺💕 i haven't seen enough of strange new worlds yet to know how that backstory will impact their tos relationship but honestly they love each other.
uhura/scotty i don't understand why people disliked this so much in "the final frontier"!!! it doesn't seem to me at all like it came out of the blue. they both have respect and affection for each other in the original series and after going on the five year mission (and beyond) they have a close history together, so why not?? let them have a little happiness with someone who understands the most important time in their lives!! however i will say that any uhura/scotty pairing is actually uhura/enterprise/scotty with the enterprise in the middle because they are engineers first and foremost.

Galactic Gazetteer: Planet M-113
Class: M
Quadrant: Beta
Native inhabitants: Salt Vampires (aka Salt Suckers, Salt Succubi) - Extinct (or are they?)
Mineralogy: depleted of salt
Appearance: TOS "The Man Trap"
Fun fact: the first planet seen in broadcast Trek.
Another fun fact: Changed to Regulus VIII in Blish's novelisation, which used the working title "The Unreal McCoy" which is brilliant.

William Shatner PUBLICLY trashed Kurtzman's brand of Star Trek at San Diego Comic Con, and this insult was heard around the world! Shatner is on OUR SIDE!

I can be a little slow sometimes but this is ridiculous
Romulan Ael.
...Did I just get hit with a stealth pun from a book I first read thirty-seven years ago?
