08.02: Window on Main Street

New Podcast time! In what would prove to be Cindy Williams' final episode (and Shirley Feeney's final time ) the girls are offered a big promotion at Bardwells - if they manage to stay in a display window showing off the Apatment of The Future for forty-eight hours.

This causes Laverne's heretofore unmentioned claustrophobia to kick in. With Rhonda's help, the girls employ a hypnotherapist, who ends up accidentally implanting a suggestion in the girls' brains that whenever they hear a bell, they should act like chickens. Naturally, Bardwells' home of the future is just laden with these bells, leaving the girls acting like poultry right in public in downtown LA. Can they save their jobs? Will Laverne finally make contact with the handsome photographer she keeps flirting with? Will Shirley's strange symptoms point toward something shocking? Will Bonomania sell a showing out?!

On-pod, we talk about the episode's old-fashioned feeling, praise Larry Breeding, and talk about the guest stars.

HIIIIIII!

Oh lord. We’ve just wrapped up recording for ep 6 ‘Udun’!

It’s going to go up a little later than planned because of work obligations and just how busy it has been lately but yay, it’s now done.

We were both extremely excited to record this one for obvious reasons. 😏 It was unanimously voted our favorite episode of the season and there was just so much stuff to talk about! Great musical moments, awesome action sequences, important tension loaded character moments, reveals… All excellent.

We did not keep it brief. We are unable not to dwell on things at this point. We both had just basic notes for this recording but it all escalated fast. And we’re not mad about it because we just had so much fun discussing, theorizing, HAVING MELTDOWNS.

Thank you thank you THANK YOU for everyone’s continued support. It means so much to us, it really does.

You’re going to hear us soon when the ep goes up. ❤️‍🔥

in case there are folks who follow me on here but not elsewhere, i wanted to take a moment to let you know that a dear friend of mine kailyn (@cristobalsifuentes) started a new podcast!!! "loud, fast, and keep talking" is a bi-monthly, episode-by-episode deep dive of hbo's barry. the inaugural episode covering 01x01 "chapter one: make your mark" went up last week, and i happened to be one of the guests alongside another dear friend lilia (@billhader)!

loud, fast, and keep talking is set to feature a rotating door of diverse guests, which is something i personally feel like has been missing in the barry podcast space for years. it's the perfect podcast for both the casual and mega fan, especially while we wait patiently for season four!

and, finally, as someone who has poured countless hours into drawing barry fanart this year, it means a lot to me to see the community keeping the fandom alive by collaborating and engaging with each other through this medium.

Laverne wakes up from a black-out drunk evening on top of an aircraft carrier with her clothing torn and disheveled. On her way off the boat, she gets saluted by the sailors on board for activities she cannot recall. By the time they "toot the big horn" at her, she suspects the worst has occurred. Running to the nearest church for confession, she asks if she can still make it into heaven in light of her "bad deeds." The priest recommends she take a sabbatical at a nunnery as an act of contrition. But unlike stuffy old monasteries, the silent nuns who worship here break up the monotony with pottery making, football playing, roller skating, and pickle smuggling. Laverne causes chaos at every turn, until she forces one of the nuns (Louise Lasser) to break her vow of silence. Through her connection to this struggling nun, Laverne gets one last try at being a good girl -- if she can contritely ask for forgiveness from the Big Man Upstairs.

Look, we're not going to lie - we rip this episode a new one. On pod, we talk the insanity, Chris goes off on a Dark Souls tangent (and revenge movie recommendation list), Lisa tries not to get flashbacks to Catholic school, and ultimately we give Monastery Story a once-over with a sledgehammer.

Hi everyone!

First and foremost, we would like to thank everyone who has recently followed and messaged us. It means a lot to us that fellow fans respond to what we create and how we react to the show. It is genuinely so very heartwarming when it’s not just the two of us putting stuff into the void. Feedback and sharing to like-minded fans out there—that’s always and forever greatly appreciated. ♥️

We are now preparing our new pod episode to go live tomorrow morning. The ep tackles ‘The Great Wave’ - Reforged and - to be completely honest - we discuss everything in such great detail that it was a real pain to edit and to get it under 2 hours. 😂 Big shout-out to everyone who gets to the end. There was a lot to discuss though as with every episode it just piles on, you know? There are new things to remember about as we go on.

We dissect everything with care. I can promise a lot of Halbrand/Sauron and Haladriel talk. We know there’s people waiting for that and of course, we shall provide. ❤️‍🔥

We also spend time appreciating Elrond’s chill nature, Miriel’s devotion to making an educated choice and humorously trash talking Theo a bit (he’s such a little shit but we love him, too).
