Art Used in the Dragon Age: Official Cookbook: Tastes of Thedas
While there was some new art, previously seen concept art, there was also the use of ending credit slides. Some possibly denoting certain world states that I briefly referred to in the master post here.
I've split it into sections of:
New Art
Previously Shown Art
Character Art and Slides
General World State Ending Slides
Everything is going below the cut because this will be long. I will also note which page and recipe each image accompanies in the book for easy reference. (Here's to hoping tumblr doesn't mess with the image layout.)
Edit 10/30/2023: Added the page numbers that were missed because it glitched out and deleted things when I tried to go over 30 images and didn't notice till now.
New Art

Page numbers from top left to right going down:

Giant: Lamprey Cake, p. 149
Blue Building: About the Authors and Photoghraphers, p. 175
Mabari and Army: Roasted Turkey with Sides, p. 99
These are all new images with three of these looking to be concept art: the presumably Orlesian woman looking at Andrastian themed items, the antaam spearman preparing to throw a spear, and the table setting of what looks like it might be for Rivain or Tevinter based on the aesthetic. Though I lean more Tevinter due to the snake on the basket.
The bowl and platter look to maybe be prop designs, and they are distinctly bird themed with what looks like feathers around the base of the bowl and then mirrored crows on either side of the platter with a dagger etched in the center.
The red bear shown here is new, though it is similar to a mural in Dragon Age: Inquisition in the barn where there is a green-ish bear with stars on its muzzle breathing what might be fire, while holding the white silhouette of a figure with antlers. (Couldn't attach it due to there being a photo limit.)
Then to further note that the dark blue building image looks similar to some concept art/Development images from Dragon Age: Dreadwolf (DA4)

Trespasser: Iron Bull and the Chargers are alive and taking jobs throughout Orlais and Ferelden. Trespasser: Varric is Viscount Trespasser: Josephine, her personal quest completed. These were all ending slides you could get at some point in Inquisition, from the top left to right: Trespasser: The Qunari threat Inquisition: Kicked out of Halamshiral with low approval Inquisition: Grey Wardens were kept in southern Thedas to rebuild, they are estranged from the Wardens in Weishaupt Trespasser: The Inquisition was disbanded
Final Thoughts and Implied World State
Overall the world state makes a lot of sense I think, they went with the one that would be less quantum - so no one is dead or could be dead and is in an important role; hence Cassandra being Divine,
Summary
Inquisition is disbanded
Grey Wardens are divided; though as of the comics and Tevinter Nights we know regardless all Wardens have been called back to Weisshaupt. Unclear if the civil war mentioned in DAI is actually happening.
Morrigan has Kieran and he doesn't have the old god soul anymore
Cole is human
Josephine had her personal quest done.
Leliana wasn't killed in Origins, she is fully human and now retired.
Alistair is king
Cassandra is Divine, no clear answer on the state of the Seekers.
Cullen is retired and established the sanctuary for former templars.

Baldur's Gate 3's Potato Chowder - RECIPE
So a few days ago, I found this recipe around the start of act 3, near the kitchen of the Temple of the Open Hand in Rivington:
Tumblr media
[Screenshot of recipe as it appears in-game. Exact steps will be transcribed below, within the recipe.]
It looked... honestly very simple and not dissimilar from a Hungarian potato főzelék/stew (which is a very cheap and homely peasant dish I love), so I just made it for lunch today, and guys....
this soup is uh. really fucking good. I tried following it as close to the letter as possible, but since it's quite vague, I did have to improvise a fair bit- but it's very cheap and easy to make, it's warm and comforting while still quite light (there are like. NO spices in there, it's a very European-feeling dish), and I'd say it's surprisingly filling, but it's. It's potatoes, so there's nothing exactly surprising about that.
I tried to write out the recipe in a very beginner-friendly way, so even if you're not super confident in the kitchen, it should be easy to follow! ❤️
Make yourself some video game soup, it's awesome.
INGREDIENTS:
(For about 6 servings)
A roughly egg-sized lump of lard (This can be subtituted with a different cooking fat if you'd like, but I recommend sticking with lard, as it adds a nice flavor, and it's kind of the staple fat for these peasant stews.)
Potatoes (I used just under two pounds)
Half of a medium leek
Small yellow onion (or half of a larger one)
2 cloves garlic
Roughly 1/2 to 1 cup white cooking wine (optional, substitute given in recipe)
Vegetable stock (or chicken- or beef stock, or water)
2-3 tbsp all purpose flour
Salt to taste
1/2 cup of sour cream/créme fraiche (optional)
Shredded cheese and/or croutons to serve (optional)
(Recipe with transcriptions and exact steps under the cut!)
Tumblr media
(This is basically all there is in this. Honestly.)
STEPS:
"1. Put your lard in a pot- a chunky one, mind. When it stops being lard and starts being hot lard, add any good-smelling veggies (leeks, garlics, onions) that you've chopped all thin. Please salt this so it doesn't taste of nothing."
This first step is pretty self-explanatory. I sliced the white part of he leek thinly, cubed my onion, and minced my two large cloves of garlic. In the lard melted in as chunky a pot as I've got (make sure it's not non-stick!!!), I sauteed first the leek and the onion with a big pinch of salt, and once the onion was translucent, the leek soft, and they've released some liquid (around 3-5 minutes on medium-low heat), I added the garlic, and cooked it until fragrant.
"2. When it's soft and good-smelling, chuck in any flour you've got and stir the mixture so it don't burn (note for me - it's very important not to burn it, emphasize)"
"2.5. PLEASE DO NOT LET IT BURN THAT'D BE RUBBISH"
Now we make a roux by adding just enough flour to the mixture that it starts sticking together, and looks fairly dry, but no part of the flour remains powdery. (This was about 3 tbsp for me, but since this process goes quick, I did eyeball it).
It's important to keep stirring, as this can and does stick to the bottom of a pot, but it will determine the thickness of the final soup, deepen its flavor, and give it a nice, creamy consistency. I made mine fairly blonde (light tan in color, cooked just past long enough to dissipate any raw flour smell), but it can go to a fairly dark, caramel color before burning if you'd like the flavor to be a bit deeper. (This should only take a couple minutes.)
Please do be careful- it the roux burns, that flavor will be impossible to get rid of, so.... yeah, it would be rubbish.
"3. If you're fancy and have wine (or have a generously stocked temple wine cellar nearby) add a bit of it now and cook it off. When it's done, add some wedged potatoes and a lot more liquid (not wine this time or you'll have a headache in the morning)."
We now deglaze the bottom of the pot with the wine: after pouring it in, with the wooden spoon, we scrape up any stuck pieces of flour or aromatics that there might be on the bottom.
(Note: If you don't have wine, or would prefer not to use alcohol for any reason, a neat trick is to mix about 1 tbsp of white wine vinegar and 1 tsp of granulted sugar into a cup of water, and use this mixture as a substitute for 1 cup of white wine. In most recipes, the wine's main purpose is to add acidity as well as sweetness to the dish- this trick aims to replicate those qualities, and tastes very similar in the end result. I use it often in almost anything that calls for white wine if I happen to not have any at hand. But do make sure to taste beforehand, it's very easy to go too heavy on the vinegar! It should taste sour, but not so much that it's unpalatable.)
Then, I rinsed my cubed potatoes (though the text calls for wedges, those often don't cook quite evenly!) with water to get rid of the excess starch, added them to the pot, and then covered them in vegetable stock. You can use chicken- or beef stock (which would make the soup a bit richer, heavier) or water (if you want it lighter) as well- in this last case you might need to add more salt than you'd think. (Make sure to taste- it should be flavorful, but not salty! Bouillon cubes and premade stocks often have a very high salt content, so if using that, you might find you don't need to add any.)
Tumblr media
(It sohuld look something like this.)
"4. Cook for half an hour or so til the potatoes are nice and tender, and mash some of 'em up in the liquid. If you've got any cow products - cheese, milk and the like - add them now for extra delicious results."
From when the mixture starts to boil, it should take about 25-35 minutes of simmering on low heat, covered, for the potatoes to soften- you can test doneness by sticking a fork in one of the pieces, or gently pushing one against the edge of the pot with your wooden spoon. It should give easily at light pressure with both methods.
I then put the sour cream/créme fraiche in a heat-safe container (a mug will do perfectly), and ladled a bit of the hot cooking liquid on top of it, mixing it thoroughly- both to thin it out, and bring the temperatures closer to each other, which should help avoid any curdling. Stirring constantly, I then add the cream mixture to the soup in a thin, slow stream. (Any mildly acidic, creamy dairy product should work here- though I do think yogurt might be a bit too sour, if using that I would probably omit the wine.)
Then, as everything is done cooking and the cream is distributed evenly with no curds, I turn the heat off for safety, and using a very traditional, very fantasy, not at all anachronistic immersion blender, I blitz the entire thing for roughly 30 seconds. You can of course blend it less for more chunks (or remove some cooked potato bits before blending to add them back later), or even longer for a smoother consistency, but I did like that about that much blending left only a few, small chunks of nicely cooked potato in the otherwise smooth and creamy result.
I served with shredded Port Salut cheese and croutons on top- but this is of course optional, and I think just some nice, crusty bread would also work wonderfully!
Tumblr media
Go make yourself a video game soup!!!!!!! It's so easy and good!!!!!!!

Note
could i get your take on what the companions (or just my favorite boy X6's) top 10 fave candies/foods would be in a modern AU?
anon you are in luck, because I am constantly thinking about the diets and eating habits of my blorbos
The numbered list isn't in any particular order, it's just so I don't have to manually count each point
so
What the companions would eat if not in a post apocalypse
Cait; Wouldn't have a taste for fancier cuisine. Eats more...hick-ish. I can say that because I was a hick with this kind of diet, growing up. Has a taste for filling, cheap, low-effort food...think lots of fast food, but "healthier" fast food. Like Chipotle, Panera, etc. Can cook, doesn't often, but will if she has a craving. Savory or tart tastes. She tends to eat lighter than you'd expect.
Blueberry brownie anything, favors dark chocolate in general
Submarine sandwiches, anything with pickles
Key lime pie
Salt and vinegar chips and thinks critics of such chips are cowards
Peach Redbull, any energy drinks though
Storebought hummus and Doritos, has been seen eating hummus with just a spoon though
Blueberry bread pudding. Simple to make, fun to eat, very comforting. Buys her bread already stale from a local bakery, has a guy to hook her up with the old shit
Seafood chowder
Sausages in any capacity. Jerky sticks, breakfast sausage, etc. Loves chorizo.
Honey buns from the gas station
Curie; Health nut, she eats like every influencer claims they eat like. Only, Curie actually eats like that. Lots of fresh foods and whole grains, little red meat. However, Curie makes a point to have foods that other health nuts would condemn, thinks its really important to not label any food as "bad." So, she balances between health nut and normal person. Her taste leans toward bright and/or sweet. Dislikes red meat.
Salmon breakfast wraps
Tropical fruit smoothies, eats so much pineapple
Iced tea, favors raspberry. Never seen without an iced tea of some kind
Halibut tacos, likes red cabbage and a fuck ton of lemon on it. Soft shells all the way
Bananas foster
Whipped brie dip, eats it with anything but loves it on apples, basically dessert
Lemon pepper grilled chicken and rice
So many salads, loves that you can just throw shit in a bowl and call it a recipe. Likes strawberries and almonds
Lemon poppyseed muffins
Shrimp and bitter melon stir fry
Danse; mixed bag. One on hand, small town diner tastes. Simple, cheap, good ol' American food. On the other, he's doomed to be a soldier in every universe he's in, so...maybe he picks up some tastes and dishes from places he's toured. Gets a weird pallate that shoots in all directions and makes you wonder what it's like in that thick skull. One day he's a good American boy with pancakes and steak, the next he's eating cake mix dry and drinking tahini from a flask.
Anything BBQ, but a pulled pork devotee
Hot coffee so heavily creamed and sugars it looks like milk. He likes the twix combo of chocolate, shortbread, and caramel flavors
Prepackaged baked goods a la Hostess, fucks up little Debbie oatmeal cookies
Apple and pecan pie
Menemen—Turkish dish, scrambled eggs with tomatoes, bell peppers, spices to taste, and (controversially) onions. Adds sausage and cheese, eats it with a fork or spoon (its meant to be eaten with bread)
Khachapuri—Georgian cheesy bread with egg. Eats with a knife and fork. (its meant to be eaten with the bread crust)
Smores pop tarts
Beef and potato stew
Rice bowl with fried egg and avocado, bonus points if it has bacon
Straight cookie dough/brownie/cake batter, usually when he's black out drunk and cannot shame himself out of eating raw egg products.
Deacon; Very childhood comfort food. Y'know, things you had as a kid, but probably grew out of a bit? Eats out of gas stations/takeout frequently. Very open flavor pallete, has tried everything he's had the chance to. Likes one-handed food, stuff you can have the other hand free for. Doesn’t really have a 'theme', has broad horizons for his diet. Likes lighter, mild flavors, though. He eats lightly and on the go a lot.
Hot/corn dogs, taste in hot dog toppings varies
Egg salad sandwiches
French fries and vanilla ice cream, classic combo
Mango sticky rice
Cornbread with any accompaniments. Likes honey or chili, thinks if you have a drink with cornbread, you ain't a real cornhead
Penne alla vodka
Cucumber salad. This could mean a salad with cucumbers, that trending Asian recipe where you cut the cumber so its springy, or eating a cucumber like a hotdog.
Fried mushrooms
Usually just drinks water but will have gator/powerade when he's working. Likes purple flavor
Captain crunch cereal, loves all cereal though. Prefers the kibble stuff to the berries. Starts philosophical debates about the morality of Trix commercials vs Lucky Charms commercials
Gage; His favorite foods reflect his upbringing. Coastal swamp cuisine, cheap and made in bulk. Take Danse's pallate and hyperlocalize it, and then lower the budget by a good amount. Things he grew up eating. Would gradually replace his favorites with pricier, 'less embarrassing' dishes, distances himself from his origins. However, takes care to not looked too loaded. Smokey and savory flavors are his thing, likes more spice than people expect.
Doberge cake, which is layered with pudding, often half-chocolate and half-lemon
Red beans and rice, with stewed pork if they could afford it
Blackened fish of any kind, liked it with cilantro-lime rice
Steak with potatoes and/or eggs
Chronic iced tea drinker like Curie, though he prefers the bitter kinds
Scallops
Brussels sprouts defender and will fight for their honor
Peaches
Was introduced to curry during a business meeting/outing. Could drink that shit from a glass, has it with potatoes and porkchops.
Lobster anything. This is one of those 'less embarresing' things, but he genuinely enjoys a good lobster roll. Even if he prefers a freshly-caught lobster bisque. Again, something he had growing up, something he pushes away.
Hancock; Similar to Deacon, but favors fatty, greasy food. No, it's not the drugs, that's just his metabolism. He's a skinny twink, always starving, can never put on weight. Eats as much as Danse, who is a big guy and needs more calories than most. He's really into street food and foreign dishes, won't eat at a restaurant if they speak fluent English or have good customer service. IYKYK. Very comfort food heavy, lots of "this would slap with Netflix at 2 am"
A classic oxtail, mac and cheese, and collard green take out combo
Any and all American-chinese take out, usually gets eggplant tofu with chow mein and cream cheese rangoons
"Walking tacos", those things where you open a small bag of chips and dump White People taco makings in. Probably just tips the whole thing into his mouth
Yakitori, Japanese chicken skewers, popular bar food
Bloody Mary cocktails
Pizza, will fight for the honor of pineapple. Would really be into how Brazil does pizza
Frozen yogurt and ice cream, piles with toppings
Breakfast sandwiches or wraps. Egg, meat, cheese, doesn't matter the time nor specifics.
Jam donuts, loves cherry fillings
Puppy chow/muddy buddies, chex cereal covered in chocolate and powdered sugar. Eats his weight in them if not careful
MacCready; forces himself to learn how to cook for Duncan's sake, but for himself...good God. It's horrible. Eats like garbage. Would never drink water if not to set an example. Take out, frozen food, so much candy and soda. After Duncan, broadens his horizons. Finds he really likes soups. Just throw shit in a pot and it works. Eats on a budget, so that's a life-saver. Doesn't have a preferred flavor pallete, aside from his love of candy.
Meat lover's pizza. Thinks pineapple has no place on pizza
Used to drink Mountain Dew and diet coke, replaced it with iced teas and more organic fruit juices for the sake of his teeth
Chicken soup, either from a can, or homemade. Either way, slaps. If homemade, blends veggies for a hidden veggie stock. For him, Duncan is a lot better at eating veggies, MacCready needs to trick himself.
Sour rainbow ropes
Cookie crisp cereal, thinks whoever came up with it deserved the sloppiest head. Incredible design, no notes
Cheese and sour cream chips
Famous Amos cookies
Eggo waffles
Gnocchi is God to him. Its superior to all noodles and makes your Shit In The Fridge soup 1000 times better.
Rice pudding is cheap, easy, and a surprisingly efficient sweet-tooth satisfier. Makes it with pumpkin spice mix or chocolate.
Nick; Home-cooked meals all the way. Could kill himself with cheese and die happy. Lots of easy meals and snacking so he can keep working, but will treat himself to a nice, hard-earned dinner when he has the time and energy. Likes himself the smokey, the fresh, or the sour. Probably knows all the best sub shops in the city, probably in a turf war with regulars of rival shops. Jewish delicatessens are like church to him.
Lasanga. Most of his freezer space is lasagna. Eats so much of it. He's lactose intolerant. It hurts but it hurts so good
Latkes. Fried potato things, kind of like hashbrowns, except the potato is mashed/ground instead of grated. And yes. Also pastrami. But those little potato bitches...mmmph.
Red velvet muffins with cream cheese frosting.
Fried cheese in any capacity
A prosciutto, arugula, brie, and fig sandwich
Pickled pearl onions
Cobb salad
Black coffee. Temp doesn't matter, because he's going to forget it until its room temp.
Has been known to enter fugue states and consume an absurd amount of Chicago style hot dogs
Scones or just plain bread with butter and jams
Piper; Broke college student trying to make it as a reporter. Her tastebuds are fucked, they salivate not for flavor, or texture, but for those good, good low prices. Piper's diet is almost entirely snackfood or takeout. If she ever cooks, it's for Nat. But when taking care of just herself, Piper eats from a box or bag. When she does cook, it's very simple meals. Loves her carbs and her fruit flavors
Chicken Ramen with canned chicken and frozen broccoli chucked in. Also makes this for Nat
Hot cheetos, eats with chopsticks
Spaghetti and meatballs
Fruit smoothies/smoothie bowls, blends in veggies as well for the nutrition
Coka cola and anything from Fanta, loves fruit sodas
Anything carbs and I mean that. Eats a lot of bread, pasta, cakes, potatoes...they're the sweetheart of anyone on a budget.
Buffalo cauliflower, likes it more than Buffalo chicken
Chewing gum. Fruit flavors only, hates mint gum. Likes mint elsewhere, just not in gum.
Nickle-nips and other "jelly/juice in a wax package" candies. Likes the charm of it, also, free chewing wax
Suckers/lollipops, big on hard candy in general but the stick satisfies her smoking habit.
Preston; A mix of easy depression/bulk meals and dishes from his childhood. Lots of spices, cooks with a lot of straight peppers. Tends to eat his food 'raw', not made into a dish. Again, easy and quick to eat. Also tends to buy pre-prepared stuff for the same reason, buys more fruits and veggies and just eats them straight. Doesn't care about eating healthy, he just lacks energy to cook most days.
I have no choice to explain this as it has no name. Casserole dish, layer of mashed potatoes, layer of shredded or chunked chicken, layer of white breakfast gravy or brown poultry gravy, top with drop biscuits. It's buttery, its savory, it is white as snow. Easy, cheap, one ladlefull is dinner. You'll get a few meals out of it, and it's so filling you have like, five minutes before you're stuffed. I call it gut-glue.
Dirty rice
Eggs scrambled with spinach
Jollof/jambalaya
Veggies and hummus or ranch
Various fruits and berries such as grapes, cherries, blackberries, and oranges
Shakshouka, eggs poached in spicy tomato sauce and eaten with bread
Chicken biscuits, crackers dusted with, like, chicken bouillon? They taste like a chicken Ramen packet sneezed on a ritz
Slurpees/Icees/those syruped gas station ice drinks
Straight peppers, eats bell peppers like apples. Eats pickled jalapeños and scotch bonnets to feel something. Drinks the liquid in pickle jars instead of alcohol, or mixes it with gelatin and makes pickle jello.
X6-88; Pretensious rich asshole who eats like it. He rarely cooks for himself, probably has a personal chef or something. Maybe his work has their own restaurants, like Google. Eats mostly vegetables, but his favorite foods skew from "Dubai Influencer" to "12 year old who earned too much lawn mowing money and was let loose in a convenience store." So much sugar. Willy Wonka's factory is his idea of heaven and until it exists, he's an atheist.
Raw meats. Steak and tuna tartar, sashimi, and sushi
Braised duck with cherries
Nduja, a spicy pork sausage spread, has it with flatbreads
Oysters. Eats them all fancy in public, eats them from a tin with doritos at home
Anything from Hostess, Little Debbie, those brands. Fucking anything. However, would kill a man for any kind of Swiss roll
Chocolate milk
Gummies, very picky with brands, hates the harder kinds like Haribo. Wants his gummies soft as a marshmellow
Cadbury eggs
Milano dark chocolate cookies
Gushers

Katniss feeling happy/admitting she felt happy because of her feelings for Peeta:
"So, in a way, my name being drawn in the reaping was a real piece of luck,’ says Peeta. For a moment, I’m almost foolishly happy and then confusion sweeps over me. Because we’re supposed to be making up this stuff, playing at being in love not actually being in love." (The Hunger Games)
"When I wake, I have a brief, delicious feeling of happiness that is somehow connected with Peeta. Happiness, of course, is a complete absurdity at this point, since at the rate things are going, I'll be dead in a day. And that's the best-case scenario, if I'm able to eliminate the rest of the field, including myself, and get Peeta crowned as the winner of the Quarter Quell. Still, the sensation's so unexpected and sweet I cling to it, if only for a few moments. Before the gritty sand, the hot sun, and my itching skin demand a return to reality." (Catching Fire)
"I’m light-headed with giddiness. What will I say? Oh, who cares what I say? Peeta will be ecstatic no matter what I do. He’ll probably be kissing me anyway. I wonder if it will feel like those last kisses on the beach in the arena, the ones I haven’t dared let myself consider until this moment." (Mockingjay)
"I poke around in the pile, about to settle on some cod chowder, when Peeta holds out a can to me. ‘Here.’ I take it, not knowing what to expect. The label reads LAMB STEW. I press my lips together at the memories of rain dripping through stones, my inept attempts at flirting, and the aroma of my favorite Capitol dish in the chilly air. So some part of it must still be in his head, too. How happy, how hungry, how close we were when that picnic basket arrived outside our cave." (Mockingjay)

Closer (a Seven Tears ficlet)
Tumblr media
I can't help but think of the fox and the little prince and the wish to be tamed when I think of the early days, of Ezra watching from afar, wishing to be summoned. More specifically, this is set after Ezra becomes addicted to making her laugh and before reader meets Colin.
As this is set in the early side of the mid 1900, here Reader is a young adult living at home before her marriage. If you want to read this in some kind of order with the main fic, I'd say read it after part 3.
SELKIE!EZRA X F!READER
W/C: 600ish
WARNINGS: Though set in Ireland, and Ireland's predominantly white, Reader is physically undescribed, as are her blood relatives, her missing spouse and his family are white, selkie Ezra is a Ezra and a selkie. Soft fluffle ahead.
A/N: The lovely Ash @mandoblowmybackout had chatted with me about a little headcanon about Ezra and his moonbeam before our Tale of the Seven Tears begins, of them playing and being silly together.
Although it was as of yet unwritten, I assured Ash that this is indeed canon... now it's official.
Tumblr media
It was one of those precious sunny summer days so you pushed through your chores quickly. Wanting to get to the strand as soon as possible, as you were sure that funny seal would be there, that he would not be able resist basking on the warm rocks.
You snatched your cardigan off the hook by the door, shouting that you were going to dig clams. Your mam called back, something about taking your little brother with you, but you were on your bicycle and down the road before she finished. Traipsing down the rock steps, clam rake and basket in hand, you looked out over the water. It was almost low tide, you could bring home some clams for chowder or stew and perhaps avoid getting into too much trouble. You drew in a deep breath. Sea birds cried and yes, there they were. The seals. The rocks were covered in black and gray seals.
Ezra knew she would not be able to resist such a beautiful day at the shore, he held out hope she would swim, despite it being unlikely. It didn't matter so long as he got to see her. Maybe coax a smile and a laugh. Have her attention if only for a bit.
He shot through the water making his way to the rocks. He picked one of the rocks closest to the shoreline, but not that one, Widow’s Rock was not for him. Ezra lounged with the pod, stretching out under the bright sunshine. He was not tired, on the contrary, he was excited. But Ezra was not immune to the soporific effects of the sun heated rock, the snores from his siblings, nor the lapping of the water… he began to doze off as well, but movement to his left woke him…
It was you. He watched as you sat on the bottom step to take off your shoes, then tuck your socks in them. He slid off the rock and into the cool water, thinking about how to catch your eye.
You made your way to the water's edge and onto a crop of rocks. Ezra rolled and barked. You smiled and sat down, watching him slip through the water like a torpedo. Half out of the water he regarded you, his front flippers on a small rock. Then Ezra stretches his neck and pulls back, so that he goes from having a long neck to no neck at all. You laugh and he is hooked, he does it again. You respond in-kind, you elongate your neck and then bring down you neck and pull up your shoulders mimicking his movements.
He laughs back.
Back and forth you stretched out to him nose pointing and he scrunched up, then he elongates his neck and you retract. You had such a fit of laughter you stopped, shaking your head. Then you regarded him, and reached out your hand. You should not, as fun and friendly as the seals can be. They are wild. Even if this one was… selkies too, you reminded yourself, are wild.
Ezra stopped, big brown eyes on you then your hand.
He should not. Regardless he stretched his neck, nose pointed- reaching for your hand.
Suddenly a large seal, a cow, barked at Ezra, eyeing him,  full of warning.
At the same moment your younger brother, Hugh, called your name from the top of the path, then started to make his way down.
You pulled your hand away, startled, at the same moment his head pulled away with a jolt.
Ezra looked at you, did a twist, eyes not leaving yours and then ducked under the water.
Gone.
Until next time.

What are the characters signature dish? Since we know Alan is good with breakfast ^^
oooh! Yes!
Alan really likes a combination of a sweet and savory breakfast. Since he is a breakfast enjoyer and what he mostly runs on, he indulges himself and makes a whole meal. A classic sunny-side-up of eggs, ham, bacon, biscuits, and/or waffles. Yes, he is the type to pour syrup ALL OVER his dish.
Erika really loves pastries. So coffee with a pastry is her dish. She doesn't mind sweet fraps but she prefers the bitterness of her drink. A flat white with an Ube pie pastry. She values simplicity with her meals.
Stu loves quick and cheap fast food/snacks. His diet consists of mostly snacks and not full meals. He can't cook to save his life unless you count using the microwave as "cooking". So his dish would be a Ham & cheese sandwich w/ the crusts cut off, a fruit punch soda can, potato chips, and snack cakes. One homemade meal but still a lot of processed garbage.
Claude is a great cook who knows what he's doing. Being the pompous asshole that he is, he only gets the best and freshest ingredients for his meals. In fact, he used to make meal plans for his brothers back in the day. His dish would be parsnip gratin, freshly pressed juice with a shot of liquor, and a cigarette.
Much like Claude, Jules is also a good cook. He loves comfort/homemade food and is always delighted to cook it. He is the type to go a little overboard and was told by Claude himself that he "wastes food when cooking". But he only sees it as a plus because he has leftovers to feed him the next day. He loves stews and soups the most. A hearty and filling meal. His dish would be a creamy clam chowder bread bowl.
James is similar to Alan as he does indulge himself with food. But instead of breakfast, it's either lunch or dinner. Since he is Texan, and grew up in a rural part for a good chunk of his life, a classic Texas BBQ and a long-island iced tea is his dish.

Hello Talviel! I'm not sure if anyone's asked this yet, but I'm interested in Skaal cuisine and how it differs from the usual mainland Nord fare. And due to the influx of Morrowind refugees, flora, and fauna post-Red Year, have they adapted to create some Skaal-Dunmer fusion dishes? Thanks!
Over the years, I’ve grown close to the Skaal of Solstheim, and have become familiar with their culinary traditions. Despite the few resources available in such a hostile environment, there are still many delicious Skaal dishes that deserve some recognition.
The Skaal diet is primarily based upon fish, horker, bristleback, bear, and elk, all of which are plentiful across Solstheim. In terms of vegetables, they, like the Dunmer, consume ash yams and scathecraw, which grow plentifully across the island. Spices are costly and only obtainable through trade, so they are not traditionally upheld in the Skaal culinary tradition. However, they take advantage of natural flavourings from herbs and plants, like powdered trama root, comberry, snowberries, juniper berries, and tree sap.
Like mainland Nords, mead is much loved, but due to the frosty and ashen climate of Solstheim, it is difficult to produce as there isn’t much in the way of beekeeping. As such, Nord mead is imported in large amounts, and the Skaal at Thirsk Mead Hall love it! However, it’s viewed as more of a treat than it is on Skyrim.
Back to the food! There are many Skaal dishes and only so much time, so a small menu is in order. Unlike most other peoples, the Skaal do not partake in the format of starters, mains, and dessert. Rather, meals are made communally and distributed through the village three times a day, prepared by younger members of the community. As such, breakfast, lunch, and dinner consist of at least two dishes. A typical meal in the Skaal Village would look something like this:
Breakfast
Scrambled seagull eggs, with bristleback bacon
Smoked salmon and salted smoked cod roe, with rye flatbread
Lunch
Rabbit stew, with pulled trama root and smoked bristleback sausage
Seafood chowder, with rye flatbread
Dinner
Juicy horker belly roasted in lard, with mashed ash yams
Fried elk cutlets, with juniper gravy
I hope that this whets your appetite, and showcases some of the delicious dishes enjoyed by the Skaal. ~Talviel

Soup
Can i say how underrated soup is??? chicken noodle is warm, filling and comforting like a hug Hearty, thick, and chunky like a stew or chowder Thin, light, almost creamy and cold like a refreshing gazpacho Complex and layered like a slow cooked Pho broth simple and elegant like a bisque especially in the fall, I feel like nothing is quite as comforting as soup on a cold day. Even half way across my country, a bowl of it makes me feel right at home and welcome. I know it's not everyone's jam but, it's something magical and versatile to even recycle ingredients.
Throw some veggie butts you have leftover in a pot with some water, maybe some random seasonings you might like too. Salt and pepper, maybe even throw in a whole egg in the last couple minutes if you want. it's an awesome way to recycle what may not be enough for a full meal honestly.

Hey my dear Loo of curse have let’s fun
For the cosy ask game
Sterling Faust not josele today
6,13and14
Have a nice day my dear Loo
Thanks for waiting for the answers, Marune! I'm super happy to answer for Sterling! My baby girl~! And don't worry, someone else asked questions about Josele.
..........
6) What's your OC's idea of a cozy night in?
For Sterling, a cozy night in involves her roommate either being out for the night or already being asleep, Sterling wearing her comfiest set of pajamas, a mug of hot cocoa (with whipped cream and marshmallows), and finally a brand new book for her to dig into.
A cozy night for her is her having some alone time to escape into a new world.
13) What makes your OC feel safe and secure?
Sterling feels safe and secure when she's wrapped in a blanket (or even just someone's cloak) and having her head patted. When she was first adopted by Josele and Nacht, she was scared of the monsters in the world that might scare her so she would go to her parents for comfort. Nacht would wrap his favorite cloak around Sterling like it was a blanket. Josele would pat her on the crown of her head while reassuring her that she was safe and sound.
It's the warmth and gentle physicality that gives Sterling peace of mind.
14) What are some of your OC's comfort foods?
Although her favorite foods come from Hino cuisine, Sterling's comfort foods are any combination of soup/stew and warm bread. Be it chicken noodle or tomato soup or clam chowder eaten with dinner rolls or slices of toast, something about eating those two things together brings Sterling comfort. What's more, on bad days when Sterling is left with no energy whatsoever, being able to dip the bread into the soup and make it softer and easier to eat makes it an even bigger comfort for her.

Could we hear some of the food Mary was writing about?
Sure!
She entertained captains on board when gamming with other ships, and that’s when the food bounty tended to come out. Often the foods were a mix of what was available to them (i.e. if they recently caught fish or found shellfish, got tropical fruit from a provisioning stop, etc.), and things other captains gave her as gifts that she saved for such occasions.
Captain Chatfield went out this forenoon, so that we only had two captains to dine with us, Captains Jernegan and Lester. Had a fish chowder, a large stuffed and baked fish, coffee, bread and butter and preserves, and a roll pudding. Had some huckleberry pies made for supper, but they did not stop.
Holidays were also an occasion for fancier food than usual. Here’s Christmas:
Minnie hung up her stocking last night. She was fearful that she should get nothing in it, as we could not go to the store, but she succeeded as well for eatables as if she had been at home. We had quite a Christmas dinner: roast chickens, stuffed, potatoes, turnips, onions, stewed cranberries, pickled beets and cucumbers, and a plum duff. For tea I had a tin of preserved grape opened and cut a loaf of fruitcake.
Everyone seemed to love her daughter Minnie, who was 5-9 years old over the course of the voyage. Whaling wives and—more rarely seen—their children, were definitely a domestic novelty.
We all passed a very pleasant day, Captain Winegar enjoying it very much; it reminded him so strongly of home. Minnie attracted much notice as usual. She is generally the center of attention with company. She is not afraid to speak, and her replies are generally to the point and usually interspersed with some salt remarks. The captain gave me a couple pounds of green tea, a couple tins of preserved pineapple, and a few shells. I forgot to mention that we carried him a little pig and gave him a piece of fresh pork. The cook gave Minnie a little china cup and saucer, which pleased her very much. For dinner we had a roast duck, potatoes, onions, some very nice biscuit, coffee, mince pie, and for dessert preserved peaches, pineapples, and quinces. For supper we had oysters, cold duck, biscuit, preserved pears, mince pie, doughnuts, and cookies, Captain Winegar doing the honors very well. We arrived home delighted with our visit.
Here’s Minnie celebrating her 8th birthday by presiding over a tea party with a bunch of whaling officers, that her mom prepared.
We set the table and called the officers down about half-past 7 P.M. Minnie was so happy she hardly knew what to do with herself, and I think we all enjoyed it pretty well. The officers all united in saying that they had not sat down to such a table since they left home. The treat consisted of a plate of sister Celia’s fruitcake, two loaves of cupcake frosted, two plates of currant jelly tarts, and a dish of preserved pineapple, also hot coffee, good and strong, with plenty of milk and white sugar. After we had finished there was ample supply left, which was sent into the steerage for boatsteerers, etc.
In addition to tea party leftovers being sent to the boatsteerers, foods were also made for the foremast hands as a special occasion too.
Luxuriated today in roast chickens for the cabin, and a pork sea pie for the forecastle, with occasional lunches of pineapple, bananas, and coconuts.
There were some struggles with her cooking ventures too, however:
This afternoon we killed two hens; Cynthia and Coopie. It made Minnie feel very sad to have Cynthia killed. I must not allow her to name her chickens for her friends; it makes her feel so badly when they are killed. […] I made our chickens into a pie today. The officers said it seemed like home. It was not baked well; the crust was not done. I should have more courage to make knickknacks if I could attend to the baking of them, but of course it would not do for me to go into the galley.
All in all the fare was quite fine compared to…food on whaleships in general.

Opinions on soup?
what is your favorite/least favorite soup?
anything else you might like to share about soup?
Ah, right. Objectively (/lie), soup and it’s adjacent foods are the best thing to have happened to our world.
Favorite soups are the ones with thicker broths, tomato soup, clam chowder (though I have a complicated relationship with her,) the works. Especially with a good piece of bread or two. I’ve enjoyed of a good old chicken noodle on occasion. It has a lot of factors that measure it’s goodness and sometimes I just can’t handle the stress.
I don’t have a specific type of soup that’s my least favorite, I’d say it mostly depends on execution. As a ground rule, though, I don’t like soups with very clear and/or flavorless broths. They feel wildly unfulfilling. I also don’t like soups that are completely blended together, they need the chunks, the texture, the drama. (Tomato soup is my one exception.)
On the soup-adjacent side, I’m also partial to a lot of curries and stews. We had a chicken curry a few months back that we have not gone a day without thinking about. I’d kill for it.
I have opinions about things that don’t really matter, hope this helps.

4, 6, 14, 25 for Hope and Miruna?
Thank you so so much for the asks! <3
4. Do they have a favorite hot drink? Tea? Coffee? Hot chocolate? Hot cider? If so, how do they take it?
Hope: Hope is a hot drink lover of all sorts, so she will drink all of these. However, she does have her preference of what she likes best: coffee is always on top: she takes it with her favorite creamer at the time and a spoonful of sugar. Next would be hot chocolate with a splash of cinnamon or peppermint depending on her mood :3 Hot tea would be her third favorite-more on the chamomile side with honey and milk when she is feeling especially anxious then hot cider is the last one. She likes all of them but coffee and hot chocolate are her favorites.
Miruna: Miruna prefers hot tea over everything else but will take coffee sometime. She doesn't really have a sweet tooth for hot coco or hot cider. There are rare times she might have some hot cider but again over all hot tea is her favorite and go-to hot drink. She loves black tea: earl gray with some milk is her favorite.
6. What's your OC's idea of a cozy night in?
Hope: Hope would totally just get a bunch of thick blankets, quilts and pillows and pile them onto the floor. She would put her jazz records on and snuggle down to read a book. Hope would probably have her favorite scented candle going to with just enough light to read her book. If Heisenberg was there they would be all snuggled together and she would read the book to him while he fell asleep against her.
Miruna: Miruna's idea of a cozy night in, is being snuggled up to Mihawk on the couch, under all the thick blankets, near a warm fire each of them reading their own book but enjoying each other's company.
14. What's some of your OC's favorite comfort foods?
Hope: Hope loves loves home made potato soup with hot bread with melted butter. After eating that she would go into a food coma and just be in pure bliss. Also tomato basil soup with grilled cheese is another one of her favorite comfort foods too!
Miruna: Miruna loves clam chowder but she doesn't get to have it often. Her mother made the best version but once Miruna is living with Mihawk she tries her hand at it and finally makes it as close to her mother's as possible. Also loves stew Mihawk cooks with the ingredients he has in the garden. It's always somewhat different each time but it is always delicious. It was the first meal she had on Gloomy Island and instantly became her second favorite food. (though she doesn't tell that to Mihawk ...at least not right away)
25. What's something your OC does to wind down after a long day? Hope: Hope would get a nice hot shower, get in comfy jammies then with hot chocolate in hand would listen to some of her favorite shows either something true crime or mystery show depending on her mood. Miruna: Miruna would first walk down to the beach, all snuggled in something warm to watch the waves, to calm her nerves if the weather allows it and it's not stormy. Then she would take a peaceful stroll back to the castle, take a hot bath then put on her sleepy clothes which is basically just Mihawk's shirt to be fair. She would find him drinking wine and reading a book; she would snuggle up to him and again just sit with him, holding his hand or he would comb her hair while he reads. Maybe have some small talk but she would just enjoy the silence and comfort of each other. Thank you so so much @auryborealis for the asks! I love doing these <3
