There's nothing soothing about maths. Not when you've been flipping back and forth between your formula sheet, always on the verge of doing something but never being quite too sure. It's bad habit to chew your lips red raw every time you try and it gets on Yujin’s nerves but hey, this isn't about him.
"It's not due until Friday you know," Han Yujin, serial procrastinator, says. "You can put the pen down."
"Just need to finish this one," you whine. It shouldn't be that bad: just an inverse tan question but you can't figure out if or how you'd simplify it down. What to do... what to do...
Fwick!
"Yujin!" His head flick and the sound of his laugh makes the weight in your head almost quadruple. You rest your head on the folded table on your lap, only vaguely aware of the characters running about on Yujin's screen.
Nothing. Absolutely nothing is working right in your head right now. You don't think it's the lack of sleep, not with the Red Bull still sitting on the table; it might be your head, spinning with x's and u's and y's. Though, it wouldn't take Einstein to figure out what you really need is anything but maths right now...
It's not much longer before you hear a sigh, and "Defeat" come from the TV. Oh well, it's what he gets for being annoying at least.
There’s a shift on the bed as you feel yourself roll a little more next to Yujin. Before you know it, he’s dragging you from under the armpits and into his side. You’re too tired to care much, even if Yujin kicks your homework off the bed.
"What?" you whine into Yujin’s shoulder. He smells like the cheap aftershave you bought him for his birthday last year after all he stunk of was his dance practices. “You want to help a poor soul?"
"No, you just think too hard,” he quips, voice a little terse as his Zenyatta gets charged off the map. "It's distracting me." You need to stifle a small smile when he comes back to charge attack the offending Reinhardt to death.
The silence you settle into is comfortable. Another round later, Yujin slips you your claimed plush (a really adorable rabbit plush that you both named Ollie) under your arm, letting you watch and let your mind empty out. Time ticks by, and soon your headache and maths become a distant problem.
“I always think too much,” you say with mirth. The bar at the top of the screen runs into overtime, Yujin’s Zenyatta and a D.va somehow fending off the entire opposing team as he zones off from you. You don’t think he hears you, not with the adrenaline in his ears as "Victory" flashes across the screen.
However, he replies with a toothy grin. "Good, because I need you to think for me." The idiot says it like a good thing. But he looks in your eyes with a spark of light them. Like lightning crackling across a dark sky. "Want to play the next match with me, yeah?"
You always think too much, and do too little. Can you really deny him this? "Fine."
"You love me,” he teases. It’s pressed into your ear and slides like a secret sticky note straight into your heart.
"Totally." You try to roll your eyes but he’s already off the bed in search of your laptop somewhere in the pile of your messes. Careful to put your forgotten homework back onto the table with the empty Red Bull cans.
It also doesn’t take Einstein to figure out what your heart is doing, and where your brain is taking you. Of all the times for your head to work, is right now really worth it?
You don't know what you'd do without Yujin. But you'd rather keel over than admit the solution to all your problems was him all along.

Obey me! Human AU Characters.
More information about the characters in my Human AU.
Warnings: Child death, implied child abuse, talk of anxiety and depression.
The brothers
Lucifer:
He spends most of his day working, and then the rest worrying about his brothers.
Not only the ones that still live with him. He will visit Mammon, Leviathan and Satan on the regular.
He's constantly tired.
He only ever goes out when it's a family event or a work dinner. Diavolo tries every day to convince him to grab drinks with him and the rest of his co-workers, but he refuses every time.
His only hobby is drinking wine while he plays his records late at night.
Has an undiagnosed anxiety disorder he refuses to admit he needs help for.
Mammon:
When Lucifer gained custody over their brothers, he had already aged out of the system. They kicked him out of the home the day he turned 18.
He moved into Lucifer's couch, swearing he would move out the moment he got a job.
Lucifer convinced him to do a bartending workshop and that's how he got his job at a bar in the center of town. He only works there on the weekends.
He ended up moving to the studio apartment on top of Mc's Café. It doesn't have a separate entrance and only has one window, but it's affordable and Mc doesn't mind him being late on his payments.
Has some modeling gigs here and there. Recently got accepted into an agency, but hasn't gotten any important stuff.
Lucifer has offered him to put a good word in for him at his job, but Mammon refuses to accept his help.
He does take any opportunity to eat out on Luci's dime, tho.
He has a lot of free time he spends most of it pestering Mc for free food, going to parties and getting high.
Leviathan:
While living in the home he would find refuge in his anime and manga.
For his 14th birthday Lucifer bought him a cheap laptop and he filled it with pirated games. It was his most priced possession. When it broke he cried even tho he already had built himself a Gaming PC.
He came out to his family as transgender a few weeks after moving in with Lucifer. It was very emotional, he cried the whole time. His brothers were very supportive.
Got a job at a manga shop. Ended up as the manager because of how good he was at selling people extra stuff.
He streams regularly and makes a few extra bucks, but he's not big enough to make real money.
Rents a small apartment near the mall he works at.
Complete shut in. Only leaves his house for work or family events.
Has a lot of self esteem issues.
Secretly pays for Mammon's rent when he's behind.
Satan:
He's Lucifer's biological half-brother. Neither knew about the other until Satan was taken from his dad custody when he was six. He was the last one of them to arrive at the home and the one Lucifer spent the least time with before being kicked out.
He has anger management issues, which caused a lot of conflicts for him. He would regularly lash out at Lucifer.
Eventually he got help and learned healthier coping mechanisms. It's still a problem sometimes, but he knows how to deal with it now.
He works as a librarian.
He inherited a small house from his father after he passed. He lives there as he reforms it.
Has a garden he takes care of.
Loves going to the cafe and volunteers to help with the cats.
Has 4 cats of his own that he adopted because no one else wanted them.
Asmodeus:
He had a very rough life before ending up at the home. In many ways it was an improvement for him.
He enjoyed having a family that took care of him.
He would draw a lot, mostly outfits for his dolls. He started to make them out of scrap fabric and had little fashion shows with them.
He was a very beautiful child and everyone always remarked on it. But it was Satan that told him he had a real talent for design. That was the first time anyone praised him for something other than his looks.
It became his life goal to be a fashion designer.
When they moved together, Mammon got him a sewing machine. It wasn't the best, but with it he started to make clothes for all of his brothers and himself.
He made his own high school graduation suit.
When Lucifer took one of his suits to work for the first time he cried.
He was accepted into a very prestigious private fashion school. Lucifer insisted on covering his tuition so he could focus on school.
He still lives with Lucifer.
Beelzebub:
He is Belphie's dizygotic twin.
After Lilith's death he got really bad anxiety and ate as a way of dealing with it.
He would eat his nails, nibble at his fingers, and chew the inside of his mouth.
He had to get proper treatment to stop hurting himself. One of the things the therapist suggested was baking classes, since he had always loved cooking.
It helped him greatly, and gave him some direction in life.
He is now a culinary school student.
Lives in Lucifer's house and doesn't have plans to move out until after college. It was Lucifer's idea.
He started to exercise too as a way to burn away anxiety. He's part of his schools Rugby team.
Self proclaimed foodie with an Instagram full of pics of the food he tries. Has a top 10 restaurants for their city.
Mc's café is in there of course. He loves their pastries.
Usually follows Belphegor around when he has nothing to do.
Belphegor:
Narcoleptic.
He got extremely depressed after Lilith's death. He stopped taking care of himself and would sleep all day if allowed.
He had to start taking meds for his narcolepsy, but Lucifer was advised against giving him antidepressants at such a young age.
He went to therapy almost daily the first few months.
They tried to enroll him at just about any activity, but nothing caught his interest. Until they visited the planetarium and he became infatuated with the night sky.
Leviathan gifted him a telescope for his 13th birthday. It came with a book that detailed all of the constellations he could watch and how to find them. He still uses it every night.
He's a criminology student.
He wants to move out on his own, so he got a part time job at Mc's Café. He's saving up to hopefully move soon.
It is not that he doesn't appreciate everything Lucifer did for them, it's just he doesn't want to be bossed around anymore.
He resents his authority, but any time he feels bad he looks for comfort in Lucifer.
He's the only parent he's ever had after all.
The side characters
Diavolo:
He's Lucifer's best friend.
His dad is the owner of the law firm he and Lucifer work at.
He had a very privileged upbringing, but was mostly raised by nannies. His dad was always at work and he never met his mom.
He didn't have many friends because he found all of the kids at his school boring.
When he left for college, the same public one his father went to, it was like a bucket of cold water fell on his shoulders. Hearing his classmates stories made him feel like he was raised in a different world.
He wanted to help Lucifer in any way he could, even if his reasons were selfish. That worked well for them, since Lucifer is not used to people helping without expecting anything in return.
Diavolo lives near the bar Mammon works at and goes there regularly. They got high together once, which led to Lucifer and Barbatos having to bail them out of jail. It wasn't even that much, Diavolo was just acting out what he thought drugged people do.
When he heard about Levi's news, he did some investigation (one google search) and bought him a binder. It was too big for Levi, but he was still very grateful.
In his free time he likes to play chess. Not that he has a lot of free time.
Barbatos:
Diavolo's personal assistant.
Has been taking care of Diavolo since he was child, yet Barbatos doesn't seem to be a day older than 30.
Only Diavolo doesn't think that is strange.
He's very closed off and no one knows much about him.
He does enjoy baking a lot, tho.
Simeon:
He lives next door to the brothers. He was really surprised when he saw them all together. They shared a home for a short while, when his parents lost custody of him.
It was a money problem and when his dad got a job he was able to get Simeon back. He always wondered what had been of those kids.
He was very happy to see them all together and offered to help with the renovations in their house.
Lucifer helped him in the process of adopting Luke.
The brothers made him a surprise party the day he took Luke home. He was so happy that he couldn't stop crying the whole day, Solomon still makes fun of him for it.
He's a very successful author and makes all of his money out of that. He still helps out at Solomon's store from time to time.
He doesn't know. He can't know.
Luke:
Simeon's son. He was given up by his birth mother to his grandmother, who took care of him up until her death, when he was only five.
He spent the next few years bouncing around from relative's houses to foster homes. He met Simeon at a reading event for kids in the system. They had a really strong connection from the start and after some visits, Simeon started the process of adopting him.
He was seven when he moved with Simeon.
He had a hard time adjusting to the idea of actually having a home of his own. It took a lot of reassurance to convince him to unpack his things. He loved Simeon, but all of his experience told him he was going to be let down one way or another.
He wasn't a difficult child, just a very hurt one, and Simeon did his best to help him heal.
He didn't like the brothers at first, they were all too loud. He did end up warming up to them, but it took a lot of time.
He loves baking and sometimes makes cakes for Mc to sell at the café. They give him all of the money from those sales. It's his little entrepreneurship.
Solomon:
Simeon's best friend/Mammon's Dealer/General menace to society.
Owns a holistic shop as a cover for his drugshop. He only sells natural stuff, tho. All from his garden!
Owns the store and the house behind it.
He has a very keen interest in natural medicine, spiritualism and magic.
Very witchy aesthetic overall.
Has a pet squirrel that was actually just a really big brown rat.
Simeon had to tell him.
Her name is Mikey.

Ok, I made a thing.
This is Zhar, the baby is Anya. Anya is the daughter of Nikolai and Freya 'Mini' Mactavish. Mini belongs to @sofasoap
This is not some kind of creepy 'twilight' thing, I swear. This is my girl finding her big platonic love in an AU where she doesn't end up with Nikolai.
And a little story to this picture.
“That flight attendant checked you out. Once again!” Freyas brain begged her to shut up. However, MacTavishes blood kept boiling, encouraging her to go on and try to distract the notorious Chimeras Lieutenant.
In fact Mini was scared. She was afraid of Olga back in the days of her service with Price and that fear only grew when Olga left 141 and Lt Zhar was born. Poorly hiding his pride, Nikolai told her, how that woman didn’t shed a single tear the morning, she woke up with a half-burnt body. Hiring her was obviously the move that boosted his already huge ego. But Mini didn’t trust people, who seemed to have no soft corners.
And Zhar was all teeth and claws.
Mini didn’t like her husband’s initial idea to send Olga bodyguarding her. It felt easier for her to walk down the street alongside Krueger – he at least would express any emotion besides cold concentration. But Mini couldn’t argue, when Nik pointed out, that Olga draws not that much attention than a huge loud guy, threatening everyone around just with his posture. Besides, Zhar had this natural feeling of a crowd: she read surrounding movements and moods as if she read other peoples minds. And this was critical for where Mini went.
The good news were, that everything went so smoothly – Freya could as well spend all this time alone. No threats, no nothing. The bad news was the MacTavish blood, that begged Mini to stir her bodyguard up. She craved a human interaction that went at least a bit beyond “wait here”, “please let me do the talking”, “if you need me – I am right behind your door”. She wanted bubbly flustered girly gossips for god’s sake!
Sadly, she had to deal with Olga, who refused to play any social games.
“Hes no threat, Mini, don’t worry.”
“No! I mean, he checked you out! Like a hot thing you are.”
Zhars fingers froze for a moment hovering over her laptop keyboard. Freya smiled in anticipation, but her bodyguard just nodded to herself and went back to typing, as if she just needed a minute to find the most suitable wording for her email.
“Oh, c’mon, really? You wont even glance at him?”
“Blonde hair, blue eyes, persistent misuse of a cheap cologne, ‘Oliver’ badge and a widest smile on this plane.” Olga finally looked away from her screen. “Mini, love, if you are trying to test me – yes, I do memorize people surrounding you.”
“No-o-o-o.” Mini almost mewled. “This wasn’t any test, I just wanted to gossip, or to have a little laugh, or just to chat. You know, like the real people usually do?”
Zhar sighed and closed her laptop.
“Ok, show me her.”
“Again? Olya, we watched Anyas photos just before the flight. You don’t have to pretend to be interested in my daughter this hard. We can talk about any other thing!” Mini had to dig her fingers into her own forearm to force herself to continue speaking without blushing from fear and embarrassment.
Zhar insisted on watching Anyas photos yet again. As Freya was showing her the same pictures, they looked at just an hour ago, she noticed how her bodyguards face softened.
“You should think about having a baby too. It's fun, you know-“ Minis mind wasn’t following her own tongue fast enough. By the time, she cut herself out – it was too late.
“You’re MacTavish, and MacTavish knows no fear,” rang her mother’s voice in her head as she slowly turned to face Olga.
Mini tried to joke herself out of this uncomfortable situation, tell something about ‘obviously meeting the right man or woman, going on a pair of dates, and getting to the baby question only after that, but Zhar ended her suffering.
“Mini, there won’t be anyone for me.”
“Wha-?”
“There is nobody for me.” Olga repeated. “I break several laws all around the world on a daily basis, I have not been with anyone from the start of my service in the TF, my back looks like a well-done steak, my head costs a shit ton of money on an underworld market. At this point, there is nobody out there.”
“That’s…” Mini didn`t want to point the obvious out, so she bit her tongue and didn’t say ‘sad’.
“That is a choice. And I’m ok with that. I let go of all that stuff, you know?” Zhar smiled awkwardly. “Will they, won’t they… and then they finally are. And they tell each other ‘you are the love of my life, you’re the most important person on earth, your happiness is from now on my only mission, your smile is my reason to go on’. And the church bells ring and someone’s auntie is crying ugly on the last row… I just let it all go. And my life didn’t become miserable. If anything – it became easier to breathe.”
Freya suddenly felt guilty. She knew, that by the time their plane will touch the ground – Nik would already be in the airport. Waiting for the love of his life. And Zhar would report to him, salute to Mini. Then she will turn away and go to a big cold Chimeras base. For some reason Mini couldn’t picture Olga coming to her home. As much as she respected Zhars decision to fence herself off any close relationship – Freya felt bad for not being able to truly share the family love with her.
“Hey, can I have your phone for a minute? Always wanted to try this airdrop* feature, do you mind?” Mini lied – she used this feature a hundred times already. She just wanted to give Olga at least something. So, she sent her a photo of Anya in her bunny onesie. And the one with Anya on Nikolais helicopter seat. And the one with Anya trying a peach for the fist time. It wasn’t much, but these were the photos, Zhar kept asking to show her again and again.
After that flight they parted for quite a long time. Olga had a ton of work, and Mini had a work, a little angel, a husband, trying to spoil that little angel rotten, and a brother, risking his dumb ass constantly.
Every time Freya visited the Chimera base – she knocked on Olga’s door in the hope of an answer. And after a few months it finally happened.
“Come in. Unless it’s Krueger. Fuck off Krueger!” Zhar sounded as if she was in a good mood, although Mini still had to urgently cover little Anyas ears.
Freyas stepped in Zhars office and greeted her.
“Yeah, hi, love. Grab a seat, I need to finish this letter and then I`m all your-“ Olga fell silent, when she saw the baby in Minis arms.
“Ehm, hi… We thought, it would be nice to visit our favorite Chimera Lieutenant.” Freya stepped in the dimly lit office. Anya was staring around with a wide-open mouth.
Zhar didn’t move, she seemed to didn’t even breathe. She looked at Anya with wide eyes full of uncertainty or confusion.
“So, this is where your auntie Olya works.” Freya started telling her daughter, pointing on Olgas desk. “Auntie Olya is very busy, she helps daddy with so many things, so we will just look and be very quiet, like little mice, ok?”
“Can I-“ Zhar started talking, but Nikolais voice from the hall cut her out.

Mini was ready to turn to exit when Olga snapped out “Can I please hold her?”. She sounded unfamiliar, her voice was low, tearful, as if Zhar was fighting a lump coming up her throat.
“Of course! Anya loves new faces, here…” Freya handed the baby to Olga and turned around to follow Nikolais voice.
“Don’t worry, I will pick her up in a few min-“
“You are the love of my life…” Mini stopped in her tracks as these words reached her ears. Zhars voice was full of tears. Freya looked back in shock and saw Zhar, the notorious Chimeras Lieutenant with shiny wet cheeks.
She held Anya as if she was made of a glass and as if she was her only hope at the same time. The next words she spoke, were quiet, almost inaudible. But Mini already knew these words.
“You’re the most important person on earth, your happiness is from now on my only mission, your smile is my reason to go on.”

Anything for you

As you're reading a book on different herbs and their uses, metaphysical and physical, you start to play with your hair. It kinda reminds you that the last time you had gotten your hair done was a while ago and it was so you're friend had a model for her graduating test from cosmetology school.
You set the book down and pull out your laptop, looking for hair services. Just a cute trim ans maybe a styling. You just want to feel cared for.
"Hey, honey. Whatcha doin?" Your partner comes over and kisses your cheek before going and starting the kettle, noticing the look on your face. You haven't read in a while and tea was always a great start to entering the 'reading zone' as they called it.
"Just lookin at something. I'm running low on Queen Anne's Lace." A simple little white lie. Shouldn't be too bad when you leave to go get your hair done.
"Oh, are you? I will leave you to it then." Your partner hands you your tea and kisses you again, on the lips, before going to their computer to play games.
You watch them carefully, drinking your tea and scrolling through until you find a place you like. You then put the laptop away, and take out the book you were reading. As you read, you jot down notes about apecific herbs and their uses.
Your partner sees this in the reflection of their glass case, and smirks.

The next day, as your partner is in their office, you pass by in a comfy-cute outfit. "Hey, babes! I'm gonna go get my hair done!"
"Here you go, baby." Your partner gives you two hundred dollars, cash, that seemed to appear out of thin air.
You stop before you can pass the door and hesistantly take it. "Um... thank you, Baby." You slowly walk away and your partner smirks again. They get up and follow you to the garage.
As you're about to get in, they gently pin you against your car.
"Anytime, Honey~" and they hold your waist tightly as they mash their mouth against yours. They kiss you just long enough to make you feel dazed for a short while. When you finally part, they slowly and carefully open your door for you and get you in, buckling you up. They open the garage door as you start the car.
"Have fun, Baby!" They wave as you drive off to the salon.
When you get back, you show off your hair.
"You are stunning, Gorgeous." They gently take your hands in theirs and spin you, making your hair gently spin too.

It has now been about a month since you got your hair done, and you still feel amazing.
As you are getting dressed for the day, complete with the evil eye pendant necklace and black bag, your partner speaks up.
"Hey, let's go get your nails done today. I'll pay." They casually just say it like it's no big deal. But this is the first time anyone has done this. It kind of is a big deal.
"Are you sure? Nail's aren't cheap. Especially the ones I like to get." You are hesitant about taking this offer, especially since they have already shelled out 200 just for your hair. It feels wrong somehow...
"Yeah. What about blue, like your necklace, in french tips? Or a dark blue that goes with your outfit and necklace?" They bring up ideas you haven't even thought of. Never would you ever think to do a blue French Tip nail set, let alone just painting your nails blue. You have painted your nails black, and white, and even a clear coat with sparkles in it for 2012 New Years. But never blue. Maybe they saw all the TikToks on women's nail colors and their meanings...
"Okay... if you're sure." You reluctantly agree. They seem happy that you're letting them spoil you.
"I'm sure, Darlin'." They gently caress your upper arms, trying to assure you; before gliding their fingertips down and bring your hands to their lips. Then you both head out the door, awaiting whatever adventures they have planned out.

"Hey, hun! What do you think about going to the mall?" You shout into the house, not ecpecting a response back.
"Sounds great, babe!" Their voice shouts back at you, "Let's get ready snd then we can go!" You see a figure move from a door and go into your bedroom.
As you both get into their car, your partner asks, "So... what's with the mall trip? I'm not upset. Just curious."
Trusting that your partner isn't upset, you tell them. "I haven't been in a while, so I just want to look around. Possibly grab a few things, but mostly window shop."
"Okay, Dove." They bring your hand up and kiss it as they watch the road, glancing at you whenever they can.
When you reach the mall, you enter and look around. Still has that same magic... Mall Magic.
You grab your partner's hand and take them to the food court first. If your hands are full, you won't get anything. So you grab a large lemonade, and they get a soft pretzel. You drag them through different stores, pointing out things. "Wow! I haven't seen that band in so long!" "Whoa! They actually have it in stock?! I haven't been able to find this anywhere!" "This is pretty."
Your partner takes notes of it all and tell you to go rest. Grab another lemonade and something to eat. "You've walked enough, baby. Now rest."
As you are eating your to-go salad and another lemonade, you see your partner.
And their full hands.
"Honey!" You rush to get up, and help them, "What did you do?!" You ask them, worried for their answer.
"I noticed what you bought and what you didn't. But the stuff I saw you look at, was the stuff I got." They smile and walk back to the table, arms lighter now.
"I thought you were on your phone." You look at them quizzically.
"I was. Writing down everything you liked but didn't buy. So I bought it for you." They smile and grab the chicken sandwhich & soda you bought for them.
"Baby... why have you been spoiling me? I'm grateful, but i don't understand why." You take another bite of your salad.
They sigh, setting down their food. This has just turned into a serious talk. "You can talk to me, Baby. What's going on?" You persist, wanting to find out what is plaguing your partner so much they felt like they had to spoil you.
"I... I just see the way you have been treating yourself recently. It's not the healthiest. You skipped dinner last night and then skipped breakfast this morning. You were going to skip lunch if I didn't have you get food. And you have been pushing yourself so hard... I don't ever want you to do that. I love you. I... I want you to love yourself the way I do." They look at you like a puppy with its tail between its legs, like it got caught doing something bad.
"Oh, baby..." You grab their face gently and kiss them even softer.
"Thank you..."

A little hardware rant
So today I went to a local electronics retailer to look for some thermal paste to soothe my poor overworked CPU's temperature problems. This, being a bit of a departure from the store's usual fare of prebuilt electronics actively hostile to modification, repair, or upgrades, I found no logical place for the thing, so I had to wander around a bit while waiting for someone who worked there to have a spare moment between hocking overpriced laptops to help me out on this.
So, being the impeccably efficient and very reasonable young man that I am, I decided to kill some time by browsing for a new keyboard. It's sad to say, but my current one has been with me since the days of the Party Rock Anthem, and it's getting a bit long in the tooth. So, what could this unnamed major Scandinavian electronics retailer offer me? Well, as it turned out my search would be more frustrating than I anticipated.
When it comes to pc parts, I'm reasonably utilitarian. As long as it lets me do what I want to do, it's doing its job. Keyboards are different though. I have preferences. As a writer, I like my keyboards to have the three following features:
Intuitive layout with some slight spacing between the letters to facilitate easier cleaning
A wired USB connection, this is non-negotiable. I don't want to fiddle with Bluetooth or whatnot.
No foofaraw. No fancy extra buttons, no lights, no fiddly gimmicks.
Now, do you want to know how many keyboards fulfilled all of my criteria in this big ol' store? Exactly none. I found an ergonomic one that seemed nice but was, unfortunately, wireless and one that was wired and had nice key placements but unfortunately also had this regrettable "Gamer"-branding and my old nemesis LEDs.
Now, if I may ask, what exactly is the purpose of LEDs on a keyboard? Are there scores of people who'd love to game in the dark if they could only see their input devices? It just seems alien to me since my ideal input device just lets me get into the zone while writing and stay there without disturbing me. This is, as one might expect, a taller task for a keyboard with pulsing RGB light and a dedicated button for playing the 2012 Skrillex hit Bangarang or whatever.
What frustrates me most about this is that I don't think my demands are particularly extravagant and that I assumed that having access to a wide range of Products was supposed to be the draw of living in this here late-capitalist hellscape that we navigate on the daily. It isn't the case though, as the selection of products that are deemed Most Profitable to sell to us narrows further and further. Sure, The Man could sell you parts to upgrade or repair your PC, but that's not as good of a deal (for them) as just selling you prebuilt underperformers that burst into flames if you even look at them with a screwdriver in hand. Similarly, there's no reason to say every goddamn keyboard has to be wireless now, but wireless tech is cheap enough (and harder for amateurs to repair) so it goes in everything. I'm convinced that is the reason you basically can't find high-end wired earbuds anymore.
Now, this is perhaps getting into a slightly conspiratorial headspace, but I do think there's something to this trend of consumer goods being less tailored to the needs of consumers and more kind of pushed through to the customer, which I don't love. Hell, I don't love the Faustian bargain of "live in an unsustainable unfair system that does a fuckery to our biosphere but you have infinite varieties of consumer goods to choose from to distract you," in the first place, but when that slowly gets replaced with "buy our garbage peasant" before my eyes, I can't help but wonder if I'm being played for an absolute fool.
So in short, capitalism bad, it's surprisingly hard to find the keyboard you want, perhaps the discontent of the masses should topple the fat cats of the world, turns out the place didn't have thermal paste in the first place, eat the rich, you know, that kind of stuff.

so I tried out that cheap standalone art tablet and I was soooo close to keeping it, but the "palm resistant technology" is not as good as advertised. I'm very much a hand-to-paper person while I'm drawing so getting random unwanted strokes while I'm wearing the glove is kind of a deal breaker
the game plan is to look for quality of life improvements for the tablet I already have (making setup with my laptop more convenient/portable, some mounted cables so I can use it with my pc from the bed, etc)
#it can be a bit laggy too but i was willing to overlook that#also it can be kinda. not user friendly. i couldnt find a lot of settings even though it uses the same platform as my phone#so yeah. i wanted to like it so badly but i gotta send it back 😔#harper has spoken

The tale of Scorpion-Eatin' Tom.
Long ish story about a fnv playthrough under the cut.
My plan was to make an unarmed playthrough, I was playing on my laptop while I was out of town for the holidays, as I often do for when I start a new playthrough for a gimmick run, I make a little batch file of console commands to give myself some rudimentary gear and maybe a few perks. Started simple though, two Toughness ranks, boxing tape, settler outfit. I was mostly focused on unarmed and survival for the first 10 or so levels. As a backup I had a plasma pistol, nice thing is that energy cells(bulk) are cheap and plentiful in the early game.
For mods I only had a few essentials, but notably I redownloaded RTS (real time settlers) and FarmingBob. I made my camp by the nipton road rest stop, every three days I'd come back and have to clear out the radscorpions of all sizes. I would then harvest my xander roots and broc flowers to make healing powder to recover the wounds from fighting said scorpions. Sometimes, I'd even have a little extra for adventuring.
As you might have surmised, I had an ample supply of radscorpion venom, which in Primm, can be turned into a food item. Thus really began the scorpion eating. Kept going like this for a while, subsisting on cactus water, ruby's casserole, healing power, and fiery purgative.
I expanded the farm slowly, I wanted a source of potatoes for vodka.
Vodka being the main ingredient in fiery purgative, which was a good way of dealing with radiation buildup. Eventually I unlocked the tribal wisdom perk, which lets you eat mutated insect corpses for a pittance of healing and hunger satiation.
I eventually made a simple FNVEdit plugin to let me cook Ruby's casserole myself. I eventually pushed through the guided path from Goodsprings to New Vegas, or freeside at least. Although really I was only there for the Thorn, where I could fight radscorpions over and over for caps and exp.
By level 15 I already had rank 3 bug stomper with well over 100 radscorpion kills (estimated). I liked to imagine my courier was starting to become a Thorn household name, the way I could juggle 3 giant radscorpions and not get hit once most times.
I almost gave up on this playthrough when I started honest hearts, but I ended up powering through it with the move to quest target command. Didn't glean anything too useful from honest hearts besides a mantis gauntlet and the exp.
That brings us to about the end of my holiday stay at my parent's, and the little bits of FNV time I would find throughout the days.
Not much point to this post, just wanted to share a little story about a FNV save I might not play for some time.

5. Art Attack
Look, I was a lonely kid. For much of my childhood it was just me and my brother... and this very keen British man who taught me how to turn scrap paper, paint, and foil into my own spaceship cockpit. Ideas from this show allowed me to decorate my room as a kid, got me through high school art class, and saved my arse several times when I was a kindergarten teacher in South Korea.
One of the best informational programmes ever made. They should bring it back.
4. Air Crash Investigation
I'm sorry. I know it's cheap. I know it's tacky. I know all that. But I love this show. I love learning about and solving mysteries that aren't murders (sorry Sherlock), and the terrible acting makes it so much better. I can't watch this show with people, because I always try to guess the cause of the crash before the end of the episode and yell it out... and I don't know anything about planes to I'm usually very wrong.
Example:
Me: "It's the bulkhead! Check the bulkhead, you fools!"
Voice over: "The investigators check the bulkhead, but find nothing."
Me: "Yes! Because it's clearly the wings, like I've been saying all along."
3. Justice League Animated Series
I got into this series really late. I'd just moved out of home for the first time to go to film school and was having a hard time making friends. I don't know how it happened, but I somehow ended up watching the entirety of the DC Animated Universe during that time, which is impressive, because internet was expensive and terrible where I was living, so I had to go to the library, download episodes, and walk the 45 minutes home carrying my massive old laptop. It was a feat, but it was worth it. This show did what the Avengers couldn't, made me love superheroes.
2. Yu-Gi-Oh!
When I was 12 I was the best Yugioh player in my school. Sure, it wasn't a big school, and not everyone was into the game, but it was still a big deal for me, especially as I was also the only girl who played. The game has since evolved way beyond my skill level, but at the time, I was a god among mortals. 12 year old mortals, but still. I got up early every morning to see the latest episode, and then I went to school ready to d-d-d-d-duel.
Xena: Warrior Princess
I'm sorry. This show is just so nostalgic for me. For a while, I grew up on a farm with no actual TV signal, but we did have old VHS recordings of Xena and I watched it religiously. Lucy Lawless is amazing and this show is forever the best thing to come out of the 90s (and I say that while also, myself, being a product of the 90s). It has:
Monsters
Magic
Mayhem
Queer Love (not explicitly stated, but this wasn't queerbaiting, this was censorship, they were a couple by the mid point of the series, they just couldn't say it, so instead they made a lot of unsubtle sex jokes and came up with obscure reasons why they always had to kiss to save the world).
Aotearoa (New Zealand is the most beautiful place on the planet, I'm sorry if you disagree, you are wrong).
Tonal whiplash (not just between episodes, but sometimes in the same episode, and it was wild)
One very horny vampire episode
Xena can sometimes fly without any explanation
They met an early reincarnation of Jesus and he was a conman living in India?
You know that scene where Character A gets hurt and Character B goes absolutely feral? This.
Leather bikinis and ninja kicks except it's ancient Greece, maybe
The musical episode was the best episode
They fight on ladders a lot and I just think that's neat

Part 3: Reach Out
We're still going! I don't want to crowd anyone's feeds, so writing will always be below the cut.
“Are you ok, honey?”
“Hm? Oh. Yeah, Mom, I’m fine.” She continued pouring herself a glass of lemonade from the fridge like she wasn’t starving, tired, and stiff as a corpse. She also needed a shower.
“Alright then.”
She watched her mother resume working on her laptop, too caught up in it to notice her fourteen-year-old child looked like a distressed forty-something who’d been living under a rock for eight months. Only a couple weeks had passed, but she felt like they were years.
Between keeping up with school, appearances, and working on finding a way to speak with the sentient glitch living in a cartridge using her limited hardware, she lost all focus on most of her well-being. Not a good look for school, that was for sure. But that was only a few hours each day. She’d rather deal with the fallout there than at home with her parents. In that regard, their constant state of distraction was much appreciated.
Even if it would be nice for them to pay more attention to her, just once.
But all that, shower included, could wait. She’d finally cracked the somewhat proverbial code, and she was itching to see all her hard work pay off. She chugged half the glass on the spot to remove the dryness from her mouth and throat, then rushed away to her room with the rest.
Her mother didn’t even notice.
She drank the remaining lemonade after shutting the door and set the glass on the nightstand. She nervously approached the horrendous-looking homemade add-on she left on her desk by the Game Boy. It was atrocious, a mess of wires and re-purposed devices connected to the cheap plastic microphone. The code itself didn’t look much better, being a sloppy mess put together by a teen with big dreams and too much spare time.
But she was sure it would work. She’d went over it so many times before finalizing everything. She even managed to get another Game Boy—this one devoid of any sentient entities—off one of her fellow students after trading more than a few video games she was fond of. It stung, but she knew it had to be done. If she managed to make it work with that one using some other Game Boy games, then it would work with the one housing Red.
Hopefully. It wasn’t like she had a spare possessed cartridge lying around to test it on.
She picked up the console, hands already feeling a bit clammy, and began using the D-pad. She figured a little formality might warm him up, so she asked how he was doing.
RED: Same as always.
Well, that was about to change. Hopefully for the better. There was so much she wanted to tell him right now, but she refrained. After all, she’d be able to tell him for real in a moment. She’d figured it all out.
He seemed very apprehensive, if the long pause he took before asking what she meant was anything to go by. She tried to keep the excitement out of her thumb as she moved the little sprite around, asking him to trust her.
Maybe she should have told him what she was planning instead of trying to surprise him like this. What if it hurt him, having this type of modification done with no warning?
Well, she already plugged the thing into the Game Boy so it was a bit too late for that.
Her arm shivered as she picked up the mic and brought it to her lips, speaking one simple word.
“Hello?”

Razer Blade 15 (2022)
The Razer Blade 15 continues the line’s excellent design. Like in previous years, 2022’s version does an excellent job of balancing performance and form factor. It’s just a bit thicker than an ultrabook while providing the power to run the latest games at max settings. The anodized black aluminum chassis feels sturdy, and its understated design is great for those who want a gaming laptop without broadcasting they’re a gamer to the world.
The Razer Blade 15 is available in multiple configurations. The low-end is marked by the RTX 3060, but you can move all the way up to an RTX 3080 Ti if you desire. It can also be configured with a 360Hz FHD, 240Hz QHD, or 144Hz UHD display. You can also get up to an i9-12900H CPU, though the i7 model should be up to any gaming task.
Unfortunately, all this great hardware in such a small package has to have at least one drawback. For the Razer Blade 15, it’s the battery. 2024 Game Clear #21 The Legend of Korra
Not the show, the digital only 2014 video game by PlatinumGames and published by Activision that was delisted in 2017 that I bought in 2016 for very cheap but has sat in my steam account unused for 7 years because my laptop at the time was so bad it couldn't handle this game somehow!
It's also very important for the ATLA lore because we learn that Iroh became a filthy capitalist during his time in the spirit world
So this is an interesting one because this game got absolutely demolished by reviewers at the time, just checking the reviews on the wikipedia page some outlets were giving this game 2's and 3's. I remember a lot reviews remarking that it was this cash grab stain of the franchise... which feels very weird to me because i think this game is better then the Avatar games that came before, and certainly better then whatever that Gamemill slop that came out recently... I almost wonder if reviewers thought they were reviewing a full priced game because sure I could see them taking issue with the lack of content under that context but the game launched for $15 US.
I do have a fair amount criticism: The game starts with your bending blocked which uhh isnt the game putting it's best foot foward, some bosses are spongy and no subtitles track is always annoying, there's also not much enemy variety for a 4 hour game that's not a big deal i don't think. Not platinum's finest work but it's decent 6 out 10 that's worth a look if your a fan. You just might need to do some digging to get it these days (please don't buy a old steam key for $7000) and I can't get mad at a korra game that lets me parry a guy off his motorbike and do a fist of north star style ten thousand fists on him.
The game does a good job looking and feeling like the show, the proper voice actors are here (though admittedly it's mostly just Korra and Jinora) every level has animated cutscene that look like the show, I'm pretty sure I recognized some of the level music being pulled straight from the show so it's sound like the show too. You can feel pretty powerful using your bending to wipeout everyone around you.
There's also a plot! I don't really have much to say about it really, it takes place after season 2 and it's really just kind of one of those "all your old enemies are bad" video game plots, not in the "Amon is randomly back" but you gotta find out why there a bunch of Equalist, Triple Threat Triad and dark spirits goons attacking you. it's pretty basic but I like the new villain design at least
Last thing I gotta say that's more of a tangent but I have a memory of a couple of reviewers holding up the Naga chase segments to make a dig against Sega being like "Wow they made a better sonic game then Sega in minigame" and now that i've played it... It's just Temple Run???? like lane changes and swipe turns in all? Guy if you want a Sonic auto runner you can play one right now! in 2014 even! very silly time

Copia headcanons
Some of these are common fanon I agree with I think. Also some of these are me projecting onto him lol (though some are opposite of me). If any of this contradicts canon it's probably because I forgot what's canon
He's AuDHD but the presentation where autism is more prominent. He's self-diagnosed because the ministry doesn't tend to do therapists or anything like that
He's bisexual. It was never a big deal for him because he was raised in the ministry and although they have some very bad/toxic aspects they're pretty good with queer stuff most of the time
He knows who his mom is. She told him as a young adult. They never talked about it again. He doesn't know who his dad is but kind of subconsciously knows
His main special interests are rats and retro video games. He has 3 pet rats. They're all female rats. He likes Pokemon games a lot. He names his rats after different rodent pokemon like rattata, patrat, etc. The absolute newest system he'll touch are DS and Wii era. Usually much older than that. He has quite a few different consoles. The 3d on the 3ds gave him a headache and he never noticed the slider to turn it off so he gave it to Terzo (very ADHD) who shoved it in a pile of crap and forgot about it. That was the last brand new one he bought. He also has a secondary special interest in movies
He's not super great at using newer technology and doesn't really care for it. He doesn't like changes with that kind of thing so he still uses older stuff he's had for a long time like his record player and 8 track (he uses the record player mostly hence forgetting how to use the 8 track). He resents essentially needing to to have a smartphone to participate in modern society and probably forgets it all the time, or breaks it. He gets some shitty cheap or old one that doesn't last long.
He's had the same work laptop for like, a decade. He's paid way more to computer repair shops getting it fixed or parts upgraded various times (he takes care of it unlike his phone but of course batteries only last a few years, etc) then it would have been to get a new one. He doesn't have to use it that much though the ministry as a whole tends to be lower tech then the rest of society because they skew older (although there are plenty of younger people there as well)
Disordered eating mention: he has some arfid-like sensory and executive function issues around food that flare up when he's stressed and during those times he tends to mostly drink things with calories instead of eating very much
He likes vestibular stims like riding his trike which he's done since he was young, swingset, and he wishes they would make an adult size sit and spin
He has a LOT of different comfort objects like rat plushies, the things you see in his room (all his decorations he's had for a zillion years. his kitten poster he's had since he was an actual child), stim toys like wacky tracks, etc. He likes ones that make clicky noises and sometimes doesn't realize it's not a good time for that in public
The full Papa facepaint and robes are kind of a sensory issue but not to the point where it's unbearable or anything.
He has like 10 of the red tracksuit but he wears different shirts under it that we just haven't seen. He does have like 3 of the vvulgari shirt. it's a particularly good fabric. He also has some band shirts
He mostly likes music that came out in the 80s and 90s, but listens to some newer music too. Pretty diverse genres. He likes metal from the 80s but also pop and whatever random music he happens to like
Some people teased him growing up so he's insecure about his looks/has some body dysmorphia issues (hence getting plastic surgery)
He LOVES being on stage and preforming but it's overstimulating and wipes him out. he can sometimes have meltdowns and shutdowns on tour because of it
He likes cats and bunnies but not a special interest like rats
NSFW mention: He didn't lose his virginity until he was like 30 or something, but he made up for lost time after that and has had quite a few casual partners in his life. He hasn't had a lot of serious/long term relationships because he struggles with communication in relationships, and excessive masking to the detriment of the relationship.
