Kita + prompt #15 (“you are the most beautiful person in the room”) + kiss #4 (against the wall/door kiss)
Truth or Dare
Kita Shinsuke x Reader
genre: fluff
warnings: none
•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•
everyone huddled around your big circle, eyes fixated on the spinning bottle, curious whom it will be on the hot seat next. its like a normal spin-the-bottle game but it has one definite rule, you can only choose truth or dare once, if you already done doing one, you can’t choose it on the the next.
you, on the other hand still have both of your chances, when the others only had one left each. this whole idea was all atsumu’s fault, he and the others schemed against their captain letting everybody be involved. he just wants to know juicy information about their silent captain’s love interest which also piqued the other members’ curiosity.
and as the bottle landed on Kita once again, you could see rhe bewilderment in atsumu’s eyes!
“kita-san looks like its ya again! and since ya chose truth earlier, means ya have to do a dare next” atsumu chided smirk so evident on his face.
kita shifted on his place, “alright. so what would the dare be?”
before saying anything, atsumu threw a glance at you, giving you chills down your spine, then turns his attention back to his anticipating captain.
“hmmm... here ya go. kiss the most beautiful person in this room.”
everyone was shocked because there were three ladies in your circle, you and the two first year managers. the boys looked at the two younger ones but then, their gaze all fixed onto your being.
kita just remained silent in his seat, yet seems like he already had one in mind.
“atsumu! i think that one is out of the question!” you protested. “kita-kun you don’t have to do it” you said as you turned to face kita right across you.
“anyone against with the dare can raise their hand.” akagi retorted
but as you looked around no one even dares to lift a finger. you glared at atsumu, mentally threatening him that he will be dead after this.
“i see nothing wrong about it. its just to kiss the one i see the most beautiful in this circle, right? and its not necessarily a kiss on the lips i suppose?” kita then asked really proving how gentleman can he be
“yessir.” atsumu replied
“okay then.” kita turned hia attention to you, which made you uneasy.
“i- i really think this isn’t a g-good idea” you nervously laughed.
you looked at the younger managers but you saw them smile knowingly and it made you so confused. like everyone knows something that you don’t. and as you turn to look in front of you, you see kita slowly advancing towards you.
you slowly moved backwards as kita moves closer to you until your back hit the cold wall behind you.
“uhhh... kita-kun, i know this is just a game but please don’t take it too seriously” you said as he slowly pinned you to the wall.
but he closed the gap between you instead. you feel his warm breath fanning against your face. he leaned in more closer.
“you are the most beautiful person in the room.” he said against your lips
you can hear the other member’s cheers and yells for their captain’s boldness on the background..
you screwed your eyes shut as you readied yourself to something that’s yet to come, you expected him to kiss you on the lips, but you felt him press a kiss on your temple. knowing how of a gentleman kita shinsuke is, he might felt you were uncomfortable.
you shakily raised your head to meet his gaze. but as his gaze bore into yours, your face becomes warm, dashing with a pinkish hue.
“you don’t need to be flustered y/n-chan” god he called you by your first name and its making you melt further.
“my apologies if i ever made you uncomfortable, but can we talk about this later? i think i need to clarify something that i’ve been wanting to do.” he said, smiling as he moved back towards his seat leaving you more flustered and heart beating faster.

King Chap. 12 & 13
Tumblr media
Your life changed completely when from a slave, you became a spy for the king. Will you be able to help him in his fight against slavery before it’s too late and the threat hanging over him comes true?
In this society where love comes after fortune, will your mutual affection be able to flourish?
Royal au fic pairing female reader and Kwon JiYong
Feat: YoungBae, TaeHyung, MinHo and SeoJoon (just because  I had their face in mind when I pictured their character)
W.C: 6944
Warnings: Nothing special for chap 12, a little angst maybe. Mostly fluffiness all over. Smut in chap. 13. More love making than porn like, if you know what I mean. I’d call those chapters, the calm before the storm. Buckle up ladies and gent! A lot of things coming for those 2.
Disclaimer: Everything in this story is fictional. There is no research to be politically  accurate or to fit a certain period of time or place. In one word, it’s all invented.
Thank you for your help my muse editor princess @aspaceformyself. Love you <3 <3 <3.
Thank you to all of you who wrote to tell me that you loved little prince Channie. Oooooh, I feel you guys, I love him too.
Chapter 12
The low humming of the birds woke you up, the morning after. Contrasting with the warmth of the bed, the air had cooled down a bit and this freshness was more than welcome. JiYong was still asleep, you could tell as you heard him breath in deeply, his soft breath warming the nape of your neck.  His chest was cozily draped against your back with one of his hands resting on your waist. Never have you ever felt so protected.
Around you, the soft rays of the morning sun lit up the entire room in pale pastel hues. Their faint light stealing away the velvet black shadows cast by the night’s departure. Blowing out a soft breath, you quietly turned around to face JiYong. He was so peaceful that you dared not to disturb him. He was almost childlike like this. Sleeping without a care in the world, compared to the strong and commanding king you see during the day. Perhaps a side you never thought you’d get to see before. So raw, so vulnerable that it was almost endearing.
You smiled gently at him, maybe a little shy as you recalled the night before. You felt amazingly good, you could still feel your heart tingle from the lingering sensation on your lips. You don’t think you could ever have enough of those lips, from this man. The more you get to know him, the more you appreciate him. You can’t think of something in his personality that deceived you so far. He was a caring and loving person with a great sense of justice. He was the perfect father for Channie, the perfect king for his people and in the circumstances, he was doing his best with the queen as well. It was very easy to succumb to his smile, one that he reserved only for you most of the time.
“Good morning, young lady” his voice was drowsy, deep and low.
You were face to face, sharing the same pillow. Your eyes met and it was as if the whole universe were pushing you towards him, towards his dark eyes still half asleep but oh! how wonderful. He was close enough for you to notice the different shades of brown in his iris. With a delicate hand, he removed a strand of your hair behind your ear and smiled tenderly.
“Morning, JiYong. Did you sleep well?” You asked, wanting to know. Last night, you both had a hard time to fall asleep, the heat outside was barely tolerable. Also, the butterflies dancing in your stomach were keeping you wide awake. Every time you were about to fall asleep, if by any chance your eyes met, you could not refrain another round of shy laughters.
“I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t sleep a lot. I woke up at least 10 times and each time I did, I was dumbfounded to see you were in my arms. I’m the luckiest man in the whole kingdom” he answered, pecking your lips.
“JiYong, don’t say things like that…”
“Why not? I can’t share my thoughts with you, now? That’s new” he let his fingers trace along your jawline and down under your chin. “Normally, I can speak my guts in front of you, you’re actually the only person I can do it with” he said with a genuine smile.
“Because you are giving me too much hope and I don’t know how to deal with it”  you stated without thinking. But it was true. You didn’t know how to deal with this new situation. The king himself, sharing his apartment, his bed with you. Sharing kisses and cuddles. Telling you he feels good and that he is thankful to have you in his arms. It was too much for you to handle. He smiled softly, pecking your lips once again. He couldn’t resist rubbing his nose against yours.
“I understand love, because for me too, it’s a new situation and that I have high, really high hopes”
“Ooh!”
You were interrupted by 3 loud knocks on the door. Soon, it opened widely and without waiting for an authorization, 8 servants and 2 courtesans entered the king's room with his breakfast, his clothes for the day and other stuff that you didn’t have time to see because you hid yourself under the duvet. The second before you covered your head, you could see confusion on their faces. None of them knew you were here.
“That will be all, you can leave now” he ordered
“But Cheon Ha, we need to help you with your meal and…”
“I’ll call you back when it’s time for me to dress. For now, stay outside” he commanded.
“As you wish Cheon Ha” They left, mumbling. You could imagine them walking backward with their head held low as they always do.
“This is so cringey” you said the second you heard the door close behind the delegation of servants.
“It’s not… you’ll get used to it. Come on, let’s eat”. he said but when he wanted to get out of bed, you held his hand and dragged him close to you, back in your arms.
“I feel good here, with you. Can we hug in bed all day?” You asked playfully as you caressed his hair and pulled him closer against you. You wanted more cuddles. You needed to sink into the warmth of his body.
“Oooh, this is very tempting, believe me, I would like to. But… I have documents to take care of, remember? Today, I’ll need your help to write the official statement to Japan. Once it is done, I will be able to focus on writing a new law. Let’s end slavery, shall we?”
“This is a very interesting schedule. But, do you think we have like, 1 minute, to kiss again? I miss kissing you already”
“Oh, I declare that we have 5” he said before his lips crushed against yours and his hands grabbed your waist.
You could get used to sweet mornings like that.
The next 2 days went by very fast. On the first day, JiYong has written an official statement for the Japanese emperor and you have attentively translated it. The second day, you mostly played with Channie. The boy was a little upset by the changes in his routine and was craving attention his mom seemed unable to provide, since she was in a lot of pain regarding her lover. Therefore, you let her the space she needed and took care of her and JiYong’s son.
With the prince, you have spent time in the garden, decorating it for real. JiYong allowed you to hang lanterns so you did today. You couldn’t wait to see how it will look tonight, in the dark. Hopefully, he will be in his quarters on time to share dinner with you in the garden. It would be beautiful and intimate to share a meal under the moonlight with the lit lanterns and the cosy ambiance of the garden.
“We did a good job Y/n, I’m sure it will suit father’s tastes.  It’s so pretty.  I want to see it tonight, don’t put me to bed too early, I want to see it with you, father, uncle and mother” little Channie said when you both hung up the last lantern. At the mention of JiYong’s brother, you froze. Chan didn’t know anything about his uncle’s tradition and you are not the one who will tell him. Squatting in front of him, you reached out your hands to caress his soft hair.
“My beautiful prince, I’m not the one who makes decisions about the time you go to sleep. You should ask your father or your mother”.
You’d be lying to yourself if you’d say the idea pleased you. It’s with your king alone that you wished to enjoy the beautiful ambiance for the first time. But of course, you won’t admit it to the prince.
“Can you show me how to paint horses, again? Please, pretty please? I so want to learn how to make beautiful horses for my father”.
He was bouncing around you, indefatigable.  With him, life was full of twists and turns. He must have given his teachers and his nannies a hard time when it was time to sit and do something that required him to stay still, particularly if he didn’t like the activity.
“Paint? Again? But we painted all morning”
“Please, I’ll do whatever you want in exchange of painting with you”.
“Whatever? Whatever? Ok then, deal. But remember, you owe me one”.
“YEAH! You are the best of the best friend on earth”
He ran into your arms and made you lose balance. Both laughing, you ended up on the floor, unable to stop.
“I love you so much little Chan. I wish I could squish your cheeks all day”
“Of course you love me, I’m lovable” he beamed, holding his head up. It’s in the laughter and a light atmosphere that you spent the day painting with this sweet little boy.
It was around 17h00 when JiYong arrived in his study room. He was told you were there with his son, last time his guards updated him. Scared that something could happen to one of you, he asked for regular updates on your activities. But you were nowhere to be found right now and it deceived him. The day had been hectic and he was exhausted. He felt like his head was going to explode and that you were the only person who could help him. In fact, you were the only person with whom he felt anchored in the present moment, forgetting his royal obligations and duties.
He has to be perfectly honest with himself. He also needed to have a talk with you. He wanted to clarify your relationship. He wanted to know what place he holds in your heart. If you were as in love as he was and what you expected from this relationship. He needed reassurance that you were with him to stay. He was anxious. He had so many questions that he had trouble concentrating during the day and his counselors noticed.
“Y/n? JiChan? HyeJin?” He called from the doorframe. When he didn’t get any response, he closed the door and sighted in annoyance.
“Is my royal husband preoccupied?” she surprised him, he didn’t know she was in the room. The face he made to the queen was obvious. He hated to be called like that.
“Royal husband… really HyeJin?”
“I’m sorry majesty, for teasing you like that but I couldn’t help myself. Is there something I can help you with?”
“I’m looking for Y/n. Where is she?”
According to HyeJin, Channie was with you upstairs in his room, painting , while she was resting and reading in his study room. He headed for the stairs but stopped on his way, lost in his thoughts. He was wondering how he was going to approach you.  For him, rewriting laws and having diplomatic exchanges with the leaders of other countries was less challenging than having a conversation about your relationship.  Nothing in the world had prepared him to face this interior void, this loneliness he could be confronted to, if he loses you. Since you were in his life, he felt supported. He felt like he was more complete, teaming up with you against the rest of humanity. If he had your support, if you trusted him and gave him your approval, he knew he could do miracles. He never wanted to live alone again. Never again without you.
The queen chuckled at how JiYong seemed stressed to go upstairs. She came by his side.
“Majesty, I know you for so long now. I think that you are the most constant presence in my life ever since I was a little girl. I understand you more than you can even figure. I know what’s on your mind”
“Really? Try me” he said, in a provoking tone. He was annoyed not to see you around and now, she was adding to his annoyance.
“Is my husband scared?”
“Scared? Scared of what?”
She laughed once again, comforted by JiYong's predictable attitude towards her.
“I saw you and Y/n. I noticed how you look at each other. I know you never looked at someone like that before”.
“And?”
“... and you are scared. You love her and it’s scaring you. You spend your life alone, majesty. Always surrounded but alone nevertheless. It was almost impossible to get close to you when we were kids, it became worse as we were growing up. Maybe because of your timid personality, maybe because you are the king. But being alone didn’t prepare you to share your heart completely” she paused, to give him time to assimilate the information.
“See majesty, this is why I want our son to have a normal childhood. I want him to have friends and enjoy life. I want him to learn to be human before he will learn to be a king. Even though you never told me, I know you want the same. I don’t want him to be alone, like you and me are”.
JiYong stayed silent. The queen's comments hit more than he would have admitted, she was right about it all. She continued
“So… If I read correctly, because I don’t know her and she is a secret person just like you, she’s scared too. It doesn’t seem to be something she experienced a lot. I mean, I would be very much surprised if she had a boyfriend before. She is a blooming flower, all delicate but she is craving for the light nonetheless. The light and maybe some flesh too. And you didn’t notice?” she exaggerated a sigh, for a theatrical effect when she noticed JiYong’s doubtfounded expression.
“My wife is pushing me in the arms of another woman. I can’t believe it” he laughed.
“I want you to be happy. I always loved you enough to let you live your life fully and so did you”.
“HyeJin, let’s pretend you are right. How do you know, she wants me?”
She paused and thought for a short moment.
“Maybe she is not very talkative with me, but her eyes say it all. The way she looks at you talks for itself. She is probably very much in love majesty, and so are you. You are perfect together”.
“I, I don’t know what to say to be honest. All I know is that I found in her what I was craving for all my life, without even knowing that I needed it ”
“I know majesty. She is really the one for you. You should talk with her. Tonight, I’ll have dinner alone with our son. Get your girl, majesty”.
She came closer to the king and laid a hand on his shoulder in a comforting manner but couldn’t add anything. Their son was running towards them.
“Abeoji! You’re home?” The prince entered the room and made his way into his father’s embrace “Abeoji! Is master Seo back?’ JiChan asked his father, his voice full of concern.
“I’m sorry Channie, but no. He’s still on a mission. As soon as they are back safe, you’ll be the first informed” he told his son while watching you enter the room.  He noticed how sad you became at the mention of your friends. He always notices the thinnest change in your mood.
“JiChan, my little man, we won’t share dinner with you and your mom tonight. Y/n and I have to talk. Listen to your mom and don’t escape, it’s very important, it’s for your safety”
“Yes, Abeoji. When will we be able to spend some time together? I miss you”
“I miss you too Channie. Let’s say, tomorrow we’ll share lunch. Just the two of us. How’s that?”
The prince ran into his father’s arms again and held him close. He seemed overjoyed with the idea.
“It’s perfect, just the 2 of us! I can’t wait. I’ll order food myself, ok?”
“Yes son, do it. Listen to your mother and have a good evening”
Channie ran towards you and jumped into your arms. You lifted him from the ground, made a turn with him and kissed his cheeks tenderly before you put him back on the ground and hugged him tightly.
“Goodnight little boy. I love you”
“I love you too, Y/n. Listen to my father, would you? And don’t escape”
You all laughed at his naive comment.
“Yes Channie, I will do” you held him close to your heart a little longer. He was an amazing little boy and you loved him with all your heart. You playfully rubbed his hairs and let him go.
“Goodnight majesty, goodnight Y/n” the queen bowed at her husband and left JiYong and you alone.
Chapter 13
As soon as he heard the door of the study close, JiYong came closer to you, his arms reaching out. You melted into his embrace and held him against your heart. It was so soothing to be held by him, to abandon yourself and let him engulf you. You stayed like that for a while, savoring each other’s presence. His touch made the study room warmer, somehow.
“Listen, love! I need to talk to you. But first, I will ask for some food, you need to gain some weight. If you continue to melt like that, Seo and Tae will kill me for malnutrated you”
“ooh, you noticed”
“It’s hard not to see it, you don’t eat anymore, you’ll disappear. Is a beef spicy soup satisfying your taste?”
“May I ask? I’m hungry haemul pajeon, I want something chewy to bite on!”
“Seafood pancake it is, then, for the demanding little miss” he teased. You loved that, when he was in a playful mode. You loved that a lot. It meant that he was happy.
“Thank you sir, I learned from the best” you said, mimicking an official tone.
He laughed, as he went to the door and gave orders for the diner.  Waiting for it to arrive, you both took a bath, one after the other. You changed into a relaxed hanbok and sat down together at the low table to have tea meanwhile.
“JiYong, can we have dinner in your garden? I finally hang those fairy lights and I can’t wait to see how it will look at night”.
“Ooooh! Yes, let’s go right now. It’s too hot to drink tea anyway”
He grabbed your hand and went into his private garden. You had no choice to follow him.
“Amazing! Oh! It’s so pretty. You were right, those lights change the whole ambiance of the backyard. It’s beautiful” he said, hugging you from behind. He let his chin rest on your shoulder and held you by the waist, tightly.
“Look, Chan and I have put decorations on the fountain too”
“Floating candles and little paper boats. I wonder who made what” he joked “It’s beautiful. Thank you my love. You transformed my backyard into some place I want to be”.
You didn’t have time to answer, the meal finally arrived, leaving in its wake an enticing smoke. The king's cooks knew how to cook seafood pancakes and you would certainly thank them if you did not want to remain discreet about your presence here.
“Love, we need to talk,” he said, serious between 2 bites.
“Why am I suddenly scared?”
“It’s nothing to be scared about, I think”
“What is it, sir?”
He noticed how scared you seemed and how you called him ‘sir’. He noticed your trembling fingers. Were you protecting yourself? Were you trying to take your distances from him? At this point, he had to dive in.
“I…  I”
He couldn’t take it in his chest any longer. He was so scared that you were not sharing the same feelings as him. So scared that you could leave him. He doesn’t know where this feeling was coming from, why he was feeling like that. You never gave him any clue that you could leave or that you were not feeling good with him. But he needed reassurance. He needed to know you loved him as much as he did.
“I love you Y/n. For the first time in my life, I have someone that I love more than myself. Beside my son, that goes without saying. But Chan apart, you are the first person I truly love and I don’t want to lose you, ever”
“Oooh” you blushed in all shades of red.
“...”
“Go on, I don’t want to interrupt you, go on, majesty” you teased him, smiling shyly.
“Playful, are we?” he asked, half relieved.
You nodded and stood up. Contouring the low table, you came on his side and sat on his laps, your legs hanging on the same side. You encircled his neck with your arms, nuzzling your nose in the crook of his neck. Breathing in his smell like never before.  His arms encircled you. One of his hands started to caress your back and the other held you in place close to him, by your waist.
“Not especially playful. I’d say surprised and happy. Relieved also. I… I feel strangely calm and at peace. But, as I said, you can go on” you smiled against his neck.
Still not a hundred percent sure about your feelings, he continued.
“I love that I can trust you. I love your pretty face. I love your smile. I love how you think and how you see life. I love that with you, I can talk about philosophy and the minute after you’ll be nudging my forehead to make me laugh. When I’m by your side, the whole world disappears and I can be just me, completely me. Totally me. I am deeply in love with you to a point it’s scaring me”.
He paused and delicately lifted your chin up to make eye contact with you.
“I’ve been thinking about you all day, about telling you how much I want you by my side for the rest of my life. Turns out, I couldn’t concentrate on the meeting. My counselors noticed something was wrong with me, they asked me if I was sick” he chuckled.
You laughed, imagining the scene. You were touched. Touched and overjoyed by this declaration. In fact, you feel it too, that need to be with him. It was just a curious bubbly feeling at the beginning and it grew into something stronger and deeper as you spent time with him. As you got to know him.
“I love you too, JiYong” you murmured in a soft voice.
His jaw dropped open. Even though everything in your posture was saying so, to hear you, to have the confirmation you really did love him, shocked him. In a good way.
“For real? You are not playing with me?” he asked, not sure. You laughed.
“Why would I play with your feelings? It would be so mean and you know I’m not. I love you, for real” you caressed his cheek with one hand.
“You know that I am a married man and” he was agitated. Too many things in his mind at the same time.
“JiYong, I know who you are. I know you have a wife. I know you have a child. I’m not gonna lie, I am not sure I love that situation. But being separate from you would be worse if you give me the choice. Also, if your wife would have been in love with you, I would have never, ever kiss you”.
You dragged your fingers into his locks, tenderly.
“Since I know you, I changed a lot. You didn’t realise, but you taught me to love and take care of myself. You taught me I was important when I was just a shoeless slave. You did it because you believe all human are equals and deserve to be treated equally. You even put your life and  royalty on the line to end slavery and give all human a chance to live a decent life. You are the most beautiful person I ever met, inside and out. And your kisses… ”
At that very moment, you would have accepted almost everything to be part of his life. To be the one he shares his thoughts with, the one he trusts and relies on. In fact, ever since you have met, he played that role for you and you for him. You felt it, that connection that was slowly building between you. You felt it growing and blooming and it was the most beautiful relationship you could ever dream of. You don’t want to experience a life without him. And he doesn't want to be alone again. Being away from him would mean being back to a lonely life. Now that you knew what you would be missing, you’d be miserable also.
“You really love me” he stated again, dumbfounded. You traced his concerned eyes with your thumbs before you kissed the tip of his nose.
“I really love you, Kwon JiYong. I would prefer not to live without you by my side, even if it means I have to be in your shadow for the rest of my life. But just to make things clear, I’m the lucky one right now. I can’t believe you, out of everybody in this kingdom, love me too.”
He placed a hand upon your cheek, his thumb grazing the soft contour of your mouth. He trailed a lazy finger down the length of your neck and your skin prickled at the touch.  You closed your eyes to savor the sensation.  He kept his eyes on your face, overwhelmed that you love him back. That you both share the same need to be with the other. Most importantly, by the fact that you seem comforted by his touch. His lips replaced his fingers on your cheek, brushing your skin lightly and still that light touch sent shivers that made your whole body tremble.
It’s your body reactions that changed the atmosphere, that changed the way he wanted to kiss you. Your body became agitated under a simple caress down your neck and he felt you quiver under his touch. He loved that effect he had on you. Every woman he had sex with were always in total control of the play, always in a seductive mode. His wife apart, which was a different experience, he almost only had sex with courtesans when he felt the need to. It was their job to be in perfect control of themself and to try to seduce him. He actually never cared about touching them, never felt the need to. But you, to see you squirm for a simple caress on your neck, made him desire to see more of your reactions. To touch you more. To please you. To serve you.
Because you were true to him. You were not trying to seduce him or trying to have an effect on him. You just loved being with him, being in his arms and so did he.
"If you want me to stop, tell me" he whispered before he brushed his lips against your jawline.
"One word and I’ll stop" He traced the line of your cheekbone, dotting small kisses along the way.
"Still not too late" His lips were now on your neck. At first, he kissed the soft skin delicately but when you tilted your head to the side to give him more space, he accepted the invitation and pushed it further.  He started to nibble on your skin, gently at first, adding more pressure when he heard the soft moan that escaped your lips. Taking his time, he locked eyes with you and in no time, his lips were on yours.
“JiYong” you murmured against his mouth when he broke the kiss to obviously analyse how you were feeling, “I promise you, I will tell you if there is something I don’t want or like. You’ll have to trust me on that. For now, I am feeling more than good so there is no need to stop. I trust you completely.  So please, trust me too”.
He was overwhelmed by your words.
“I love you, you have no idea how much I love you”  he sounds almost solemn.
“Then, show me, JiYong.  I’m all yours” you uttered in one breath.
You will always remember the light you saw in his eyes. That little sparkle that grew in a burning fire in a split second and threatened to consume you both. It was at this precise moment that you measured the extent of his desire for you. Through his eyes.
Slowly tracing the side of your body, his hand trailed its way down to your lap. His warmth radiates through the thin layer of your clothes, your skin warming under the yet, chaste caress. Your breath went shorter in a new and fascinating way. The kissing session you had 2 nights ago, was nothing compared to the tension you felt building up inside your body. Was it the declaration of love? The freedom it gave both of you to explore the other? To take possession of the other’s body as well as the other's heart? Probably. But one in one, tonight, there was undeniably a new tension and it was delightful to feel it grow inside of your guts.
Passing a powerful arm under your thighs, he lifted you up and gently, delicately laid you on the cushions aligned on the ground. Your arms reached out for him, as in invitation. Making sure you were still comfortable by looking in your eyes, he positioned half of his body on top of yours. He inclined his face towards yours and got lost at this beautiful sight of seeing you like that, vulnerable but strong and willing under him. Your fingers gripped his hair and pulled him closer to you, captivated by the light in his brown eyes. When your parted lips met his, he knew he would have to fight against his desire if ever you ask him to stop. Because he wanted to taste you, devour you. Each and every single part of you. He became anxious when you slowly pushed him on the side and stood up without a word.
“I’m sorry, I may have gone too fast. I’m so sorry” he said.
But you smiled at him as an answer, a timid but confident smile. You reached out to him and as soon as he grabbed your hands, you walked backwards. When he realised you were guiding him to his room, he understood that you were truly on the same wavelength.  None of you broke the comfortable silence that was enveloping you.
You stopped when you felt his mattress behind your heels. Without a word, he turned you around. He freed your hair from the bun you braided earlier, after your bath. Shivering at the anticipation of what’s going to happen, you let him unbraid your hair with his fingers and place them on the side of the same shoulder. Doing so, he had perfect access to the nape of your neck. You closed your eyes when you felt his lips on the back of your neck, felt his fingers tracing the length of your spine and finally untying the satin bow of your hanbok on your lower back.  Both of you were starting to find that the thin material kept you too far apart. You needed a skin on skin contact. Even if it was going to be the only thing that would happen tonight, you needed to feel his heart beating against yours, unveiled. You turned around to face him again and your parted lips met his in a devouring and passionate kiss.
With trembling fingers, he opened the front of hanbok slowly. Then, running his finger along your breastbone, he broke the kiss to look into your eyes again.  You knew what he was gonna say, so you talked first.
“Still comfortable, Ji. Very comfortable”.
“Then why am I so nervous?” he asked with an overwhelmed voice, leaning his forehead against yours. You loved that about him. His vulnerability and his sensitivity. The fact that with you, he would tell how he truly feels.
“Are you sure you want it?” You wondered.
“More than sure, love. I guess, I don’t want to hurt you in any possible way. I overthink...”
‘Ji, you can’t hurt me. You’re too caring for that”
He kissed you again and his hands were on your neck, caressing your jawline with his thumbs. He traced his way down to your shoulders and gently glided the silky fabrics along your arms. When your top finally fell open on the floor, he studied you for a couple of seconds, taking his time to observe the grain of your skin, the way you looked half naked under the moonlight. Perfect for his taste.
“May I touch you?” he asked, with a voice so hoarse with emotion that you barely recognised it.
You took one of his trembling hands and guided it on your breast. As soon as you felt his warmth, you retracted yours and let him do what he wanted to do, what he felt was right to do. He caressed your breasts slowly, from the tip of his fingers, as if he was touching a precious porcelain.
“You’re so beautiful”
Gently, he traced his way down your stomach.  He took his time to feel, gage your soft and warm skin. See how you were reacting to the caress. His hand was skillful and delicate and the more skin he explored, the more at ease you felt. You surprised him when you reached out and gently undid the belt of his hanbok. As soon as you had enough space, you opened the sides of the garment. Sliding your delicate hands inside, you laid your palms flat on his chest. His skin was white as if he had never been exposed to the sun. And soft, so soft.
Jiyong let you caress his chest as you wished. You were so concentrated on his perfectly shaped body, on the velvety of his skin, observing every square inch of him, that you didn’t realise he had untied your skirt and it was now resting on the floor.  He softly encircled your face and kissed your lips, sucking on your lower lip, nibbling on it.
“JiYong… I love it so much”.
“... good.”
You opened his top completely and slipped it to the ground. In the same stride, you challenge the belt of his pants and gently, very gently, slide it down. You discovered one centimeter at a time, guiding the fabric slowly, taking the time to observe every detail from its thin waist to its ankles. He was perfect.
Both naked, face to face, you smiled at each other as soon as your eyes met.  You are the one who closed the distance between you. Tangling your arms around his neck you pressed yourself against him, feeling his strong and warm body against yours. It was delightful. But there was still a tiny detail that you needed to confess to be perfectly at ease with him.
“JiYong… I have never, I mean beside what happened with my master, I have never…”
“Ex-master” he interrupted before he took a small step back and grabbed your hands in his. “Beside, I have to admit, it’s gonna be kind of new for me too. I'm used to being served, on this level too. The women who have passed between my legs have focused on that, my crotch and then it was over. So for me too, it’s almost a first. But I couldn’t hope for a better partner”. He confessed in one voice.
“You mean…” you paused, thinking of what he just said.
“I mean I never really touched a woman, I let them do the job. I’m used to being served, you know, as a king. Also, I never had a real relationship before. So, I never ‘had to’  please the woman I had sex with… it was their job to please me. They did and they left. And as I said, with my wife, well… it was so awkward. But you my love, I want to touch you. I want to please you. I want you to feel good under my touch. I want to be melting under me. I want to smell you, every centimeter of your body”
Those words, they send shivers down your spine, awakening in you primal instincts that you never thought you had.
“Then let’s learn together, shall we?” you murmured. His lips came in the crook of your neck and kissed your sensitive skin there, trailing his way up to your lips. They fitted perfectly, as if they were meant for each other. He grabbed the back of your neck, growling in the kiss as you whimpered in pleasure.
You tumbled on the bed but it didn’t stop your tongues from dancing together.  Your fingers caressed each other's skin as if  you were afraid a heavier touch would break the heady magic. Wherever his fingers were grazing your skin, you would feel electrified.  So electrified that you needed more contact. It did not take time for these soft caresses to turn into a more demanding touch. His languid hands and yours, exploring the other's body as if it was the only chance you were given to do this. At this point, it wasn’t gentleness you wanted, You needed more and you knotted your fists in his hair, pulling him harder against you. He groaned softly, low in his throat.
“JiYong, I want you, I want more"
“At your service, my love”
His lips, teeth and tongue replacing his fingers on your skin as soon as fingers would leave. He kissed your breast, played with your nipples but he didn’t focus there. His fingers traced their way down from your breast to your navel.  As soon as he reached your sex, you completely lost control of your body in the most beautiful way. He was playing with your folds, testing different types of caress on you, sometimes tracing slow circles on your bud, sometimes drawing up and down lines. Always making sure you were comfortable and that you enjoyed what he was doing.  He took his time to breathe in your intimate smell, to lick you, to taste you avidly. His senses enthralled.
“Oh Lord, JiYong… please… it’s so good”.
His skillful fingers and tongue made you feel enraptured sensations that you never experienced before. He kept a slow rhythm until he could hear you moan and felt your body arch. The calm before the surge of pleasure that exploded before him, a witness amazed by the beauty of this total abandonment. Delighted and pleasantly surprised, he let you regain slight control of your breathing before he positioned himself above you. A part of its weight on you, you felt protected from the world outside. You couldn't not feel more fulfilled than right now.
“JiYong… That was amazing”
“and it’s just the beginning”
You knew he didn’t have his relief yet and you wanted to help him reach it. You switch position with him, finding yourself straddling his pelvis. There was no doubt about his desire for you, you could feel it under your swamp sex.  With a skilled hand, you slide him inside of you and slowly start to move your hips in circles. As you leaned against him to take support on his chest, he reached out to caress your breast. He rolled your nipple between his thumbs and fingers while he kept encouraging your movements.
“You make me feel so good, love”
He closed his eyes and bucked his hips against yours, following your movements. It’s with slow and deep thrusts that you started to tease him, increasing the speed when he begged for more.
When you felt he was close to his climax, you moved up a little and tightened yourself for a slow, deliberate slide down. He lost control of himself.  Sitting up straight, he grabbed you behind your shoulders.
“You’ll be the end of me” he said before he took control of the play and forcefully pushed himself inside of you, groaning with each thrusts.
He held you against him by the shoulders, increasing the speed. Sweat soaked your temples on this still hot evening but it didn’t stop you from moving together with force pleasure. He was already close to heaven but having you bouncing against him, your breast against his chest, drove him crazy.
When you felt his powerful release soaking you from the inside, you welcomed it with gratitude.  His almost shy moans of earlier were nothing in comparison with the groan he made when he reached his orgasm. It was simply the purest sound, the most refine that you had ever heard in your life.  You stayed on his thighs, him still in you, for a little while longer. You had no desire to separate for now. Savoring the presence of the other, his smell which was now more pronounced. His heart beating against your own.  You were the only woman who had made him lose control and you knew that the love and the bond that you shared you was responsible for the beauty of what just happened. At least, this is what you thought at this very moment.  You couldn’t have thought, with his naked body against yours, that this man had lied to you and was about to disappoint you again.  Little did you know.

Winter || Sendai City || Dec. 31 2018
Akiteru Tsukishima passed by the Rouge Sweet Shop before he headed to the Sendai train station. Today was a Saturday and one of the last days of the year. The streets were buzzing with activity despite the cold winter morning and people were traveling left and right to go home for the New Year.
As he exited the store and stepped foot on the next corner, he heard a familiar voice paired with clacking of boots on cobblestone streets. He discreetly peeked from the corner of the alley to find his brother, Kei Tsukishima with a young woman beside him.
“I’ve never been here before. It’s closer to the station than I thought,” said Kei.
Akiteru took a quick peek at his companion. Her face was hidden by Kei’s tall and broad frame. He could see the outline of her dark blue coat and heeled boots. Her frame was long and lean and her hand rested on the crook of his elbow.
With his back still pressed against the wall, Akiteru stood in astonishment. Who was this woman that his brother was seeing? How did they meet? Did they meet perhaps through work? Maybe she was from the press or an organizer or maybe a model?
It could be Kaori Miyahara, their former next door neighbor whom Kei went to the same school with. Besides his best friend Tadashi Yamaguchi, he spent most of his time with her before she left the prefecture. Kaori was pretty enough, granted she looked a bit homely the last time he remembered her. However this woman, although he could barely see her, was much more sophisticated.
Scuttling to the station to make his train, he continued wondering who this mystery woman could be. He would not be able to ask his brother. Kei would kill him for being nosy.
The next morning Kaori walked up to the ticketing booths just as Tsukki barely arrived. Today was January first. They were headed to the suburbs for their own separate festivities. Tsukki was scheduled to spend the day in his family home and Kaori was going to the temple with Hitoka Yachi.
“What time are you meeting Yachi at the temple again?” he asked while she was filling up her train card.
“9:30 I think.” she said, slipping her bill onto the machine.
“I’ll stay at the station with you until she arrives. We’re leaving quite early.” he offered.
The train station was similarly crowded as the day before. People flocked to and fro heading to visit temples with their friends and family as was customary for the first day of the year. Kaori was not particularly religious, but many establishments were closed so Yachi suggested they do a visit and spend the rest of the day at her home.
Kaori had switched out her usual dark blue trench coat for a warmer black army jacket.
“Are you excited to be heading home?” she asked him. Tsukki could be indifferent to his family. He was not as close to them as she was with her mother.
He shrugged his shoulders underneath his heavy coat, “I’m alright. Honestly, they’ll probably just ask nii-chan if he found a girlfriend yet.”
They walked towards their platform together. Kaori tapped her leather boots on the platform. She wore extra socks today because she was going to be outdoors for the morning.
“Do they ever ask you if you’ve found someone?” she looked at him curiously.
“Not really, I think they’re more concerned about my brother because he’s older. He’s handsome and friendly and everybody likes him so they wonder why he’s single.“
Growing up his brother had always been the family’s golden boy. Akiteru was smart, athletic and good-looking. Everybody liked him. Tsukki admired him more than anyone else.
“Maybe he's seeing someone but he just isn’t saying” she said raising her brows, her eyes wide at him.
“It is none of my business.” he yawned. Tsukki didn’t like it when Akiteru pried. He didn’t care what his brother did in his spare time either. Mid-yawn, he remembered something in his coat pocket.
“Speaking of which,” he pulled a white envelope out of his coat and handed it to her. “Here.”
Tsukki stood, waiting for her reaction. He was calm on the outside but his heart was pounding. His hands were scrunched inside his pocket.
“What’s this?” she asked, inspecting the sealed envelope. In all his excitement, he forgot to tell her what the envelope contained. No wonder she looked confused.
“It’s for you - my kohaku. You can use it as scratch paper for your temple visit. It’s probably not any good.” he rambled sheepishly, looking away as she tried to meet him in the eye.
Kaori looked startled. The written confession was at least half a year late. Why now? She turned to Tsukki, who was flustered and trying to hide his blushing cheeks by raising his coat collar. She reached out to try to touch his cheek. He swatted her hand away.
Kaori had started her goodbyes with a few close friends the other week and by Friday, everyone knew she was moving at the end of the semester. Her classmates had begun leaving her presents - letters, trinkets, photos. During their only semester in High School, Kaori told herself that she would tell Tsukki about her leaving during their lunch break if he had left anything on her desk for her.
The two of them had grown apart and Tsukki hadn’t bothered to carve out any time for her. He was always busy, busy, busy. It was like he had put their friendship on hold. Kaori’s invites had been rejected so many times that she no longer wanted to initiate spending time together.
When she arrived at school on her last day, it took all her willpower to stop herself from running to her desk. Walking over to her seat, she saw nothing. He had left her nothing.
She knew it had been silly to hope of course, but she couldn’t help herself. She was clearly desperate for any gesture from him. She would’ve settled for anything. They’ve barely spoken in weeks. He was caught up with his new team and he must have forgotten her. A goodbye present would give them a chance to talk, for her to say goodbye but there was nothing. The whole situation made her feel like he was pushing her away.
Now she had a letter from him - something she had wanted to receive from him before she left. She didn’t know how to feel now that she actually had it.
“When was the last time you’ve visited a temple and used a scratch?” she asked, laughing at his attempt to hide his face.
“Are you actually nervous?” she teased, raising a brow while holding the letter with one hand, “Well you shouldn’t because it’s too late to reject your letter.”
He explained to her that he had meant to give it to her during the summer, but they had the argument in her apartment so he didn’t need it anymore. Kaori honestly would have still liked to have received it especially since he had already written it out.
“I was about to throw it out, but then I decided to just give it to you since it’s sealed. You can read it later.” he said, taking the envelope and sliding it into her bag.
Kaori was trying to cover her mouth as she giggled at him. She rarely saw him so flustered. Their train arrived and he pulled her into the carriage. Kaori managed to find a seat. Tsukki stood in front of her as the train trudged on back to his hometown.
Her mind wandered back to their first Sunday after her birthday. They were visiting another museum, casually walking in between hallways when Tsukki brought up some questions.
“Can we call this a date?” he asked, leaning back into his heels casually with his hands in his pockets.
Kaori tensed up. She looked left and right, any place away from his eyes. She forgot about re-labelling their Sundays. In fact, she hadn’t even thought about any of the changes that might happen in their relationship after he confessed.
“We can still call it a field trip. It’s okay.” Reading that she was not ready for the conversation, he gave her an out. She stood awkwardly beside him, visibly uncomfortable and in deep thought.
“Kaori, you don’t have to reciprocate. You know that right? If you don’t like me that way, it’s okay. I’ll take the time that we have. You’re my best friend. It’s more important to me that we spend time than be in a romantic relationship.” he nodded softly.
Kaori remembered feeling astonished. In her other relationships, the boys were always asking for her answers, her affection, her thoughts. Tsukki only asked for time. She guessed that because he has their friendship he didn’t need romance to be around her.
“Except for the moving away from Miyagi part. I’ll only move with you if we’re together.” he clarified, “I’m not a martyr.”
“Really?” she perked up, “You wouldn’t be upset if I can’t love you back?”
“But you do love me back,” he nodded genuinely, “It may not be romantically, but I believe you do.”
Kaori did love him. She thought about how she would deal with things if she was the one who was clearly in love with him while he was unsure. Would she still want to spend her free time with him?
“Yeah, I do.” she murmured.
He was still her best friend even if he was with someone else, that wouldn’t change. She would find a way to get over him. She would definitely still go out her way to see him, particularly because she didn’t know if they would still see each other if she moved away again. Making the most of their time would be her priority too.
“Can we keep calling this a field trip for now?” asked Kaori before they entered the first gallery, “I need more time.”
“Of course,” he said, “Just be sure when the time comes that you don’t play with my feelings. I don't want you to hurt me.” His voice gave away a sliver of vulnerability. There was no trace of disappointment in his face, just acceptance and an overwhelming sincerity.
Kaori nodded while heading into the exhibit hall, “Let’s go.”

While their mother was preparing the New Year dinner in the Tsukishima household, Akiteru found himself hostage to his parents’ favorite pastime.
“Akiteru, you should be considering your future more. Find a girl to settle down with. You’re almost thirty.” said the boys’ mother. His father brooded over the conversation behind his newspaper.
Akiteru loved his parents, but he wanted to excuse himself any time his parents brought up marriage. He was ready to switch the topic when his younger brother entered the dining room to get some water from the sink.
“You should really have started bugging when I was younger Okasan,” he turned towards his younger brother, “You should set up Kei with someone. Wouldn’t want him almost thirty and still single like me.”
“How did I get involved in this conversation again?” sighed Kei, turning to his mother and older brother who were on the dining table slicing vegetables. Their father lowered his paper in interest.
Akiteru had his chin on the back of the chair, looking fairly mischievous. Although Akiteru was five years older than Kei, it didn’t always feel like he was the older brother.
“Do you want us to help you find someone too?” his mother asked him sincerely, putting down her knife and wiping her hands on a kitchen towel.
Kei tried to keep his composure. “No, thank you. As you may know, I’m still in school. I would rather study than date.” he shot his brother a cold look, sarcasm ringing in his voice.
“I think Onii-san’s case is more urgent,” he added, glaring at Akiteru who was grinning widely while he chopped up some cabbage.
“You should start dating.” suggested Akiteru, “It becomes harder to meet people once you’re working.”
Kei had enough. This was as much as he could take from his family.
“I’ll be in your room.” sighed Kei, walking back. “I think you should be more concerned about yourself.”
Akiteru could hear Kei lock his door.
While Tsukki was busy hiding from his family at home, Kaori was on her way back to the city after a day with Hitoka. She stepped into the train and immediately sat down onto the heated seats, delighted to beat the winter chill out of her bones. It was past dinner time and the train was rather empty. The city had been so crowded in the past few days. The near empty train coach was a nice change of pace.
The train left the station and shuttled along into the night. Tsukki sent a message with a photo of the moon from his window.
Tsukki: The moon is out tonight. It’s really pretty.
Kaori looked out into the night sky. The moon was bright and full. It looked like a disc hung among the stars.
Kaori: It is. Would be a great night to just watch it and drink some hot tea.
He sent her a piece called Moon-Spotting by Belle Chen. Kaori had heard of the piece, but she could not find herself attracted to it because she found the voiceover distracting.
“The voiceover is from the NASA archives. You should listen to it. Like sit down and really hear it out.” he suggested.
The piece opened with a piano improvisation that mimicked the twinkling of stars hung in the night sky followed by the voice of a man spoken through a speaker with plenty of white noise, “An ancient legend says that a beautiful Chinese girl called Chang-o there for 4000 years… “
“…it seems she was banished to the moon because she stole the pill of immortality from her husband
You might also look for her companion. a large Chinese rabbit standing on its hind legs in the shade of a cinnamon tree….
The name of the rabbit has not been reported…over…”
The recording finished and the piece ended with a variation of the opening. The piece was serene, sweet and with a hint of melancholy. She found herself smitten.
The piece was an obvious reference to the two of them. Chang-o was Kaori, who was Chinese while the moon referred to Kei. “Tsuki” in Tsukishima was the Japanese word for moon. He had gone through her favorite musician’s discography and found an ode to her, a small gesture in celebration of their first evening of the year.
Kaori: Banished is a harsh word.
Tsukki: You used to feel like being here was like a punishment tho.
She chuckled a bit to herself. Remembering his letter in her bag, she took the piece of paper out of its envelope and began reading it. Tsukki had demurred from her reaction to it. She almost forgot about it.
The letter was rather short, which disappointed her a bit because she liked long letters. To his credit it was direct and earnest. One of the excerpts read:
“When I was younger, I didn’t really mind that you didn’t return my affections. It was enough for me to admire you and for you to let me be around you. I wanted you to be happy. I’d prefer that over you being stuck with me.
If you can’t love me back, as long as you’re in Miyagi and you keep Sundays for our museum trips, I’ll be okay. You won’t be back here forever so give me this time.“
Reading his letter reminded Kaori how scared she was to lose their friendship when he first confessed. They had associated much of the happiness with each other during Junior High that it felt like a waste to just risk it and possibly end their friendship.
Still she was warming up to him. She couldn’t deny her growing attraction to him. Although he remained indulgent, tactful and whiny, he had also grown handsome, articulate and more athletic. He could be more enthusiastic, truth be told, but there was no replacing his sinceri with her. Even when he tried to hide it, she easily sensed his unabashed devotion to her.
Kaori placed her headphones back on. She played Moon-Spotting again and reread the letter.
。★  🎀  --------------------------------------------------------------  🎀  ★。
The new year came and went which meant the two athletes were back in their training regimen.
Kaori heard a light banging on their gymnasium door. The rhythmic team had their own gym to practice and it was far from the newer and fancier gyms she used to have at camps when she competed in elite. Nevertheless it was good enough to be considered home for her university years.
“It’s open!” she said, tapping the door to find Tsukki just outside.
Practice ended some time ago and most of the team had cleared out of the gym. Kaori and a couple of juniors who competed as individuals had opted to stay behind to brainstorm their next season’s music choices. Although Kaori occasionally competed in team events too, she mostly competed in the individual events with a few other girls.
Kaori had on her varsity jacket with her usual training attire composed of compression shorts and a fitted shirt. Tsukki quickly stepped foot into the gym and closed the door shut. Her clothes looked freezing.
“Is it really ok for me to be here?” he asked discreetly. Kaori had invited him the other day to drop by and see some new routines in the works.
“Well, since Coach isn’t here the rules are more lax.” she winked.
She gestured at two other similarly dressed team members bent over their phones and speakers on the floor.
“Kanako! Yuki! This is Tsukishima, he went to watch our competition last month.” she announced, putting away her jacket on a bench.
“Oh, are you the one that brought in a team to cheer for Kaori? Nice to meet you. I’m Yuki.” said the girl dressed in a white Nike shirt.
“That was actually my vice-captain. He saw me sneaking out after the game and decided to drag some of our team with him.” he apologised sheepishly, “Apologies for the ruckus.”
“Don’t be sorry. We love a good crowd! We’re sure Kaori appreciated the applause.” Kanako grinned slyly at Kaori.
Kaori didn’t seem fazed by Kanako, “They knew where to clap too! I really hate it when people clap during the quiet parts of my routine.”
She joins her two friends on the mat and hands her phone to Yuki.
“Anyways, we’re experimenting with different pieces of music for next season. I’m playing around with stuff for my hoop music. I might just get an exhibition routine I can perform for non-competition events because I have lots of music I like that aren’t good for competition.” said Kaori, playing with the hoop around her waist while Yuki sets her phone up with the black speakers on the floor.
“How about you show him our strongest frontrunner?” suggested Yuki, “The soundtrack from the Last Emperor suits you so well. Then after that, I wanna go next. There’s something I want to try.”
Kaori scrambled to a different part of the floor and waited for Yuki to signal her before she got into her starting pose. Kanako whispered to Tsukki that they hadn’t stitched the music together yet so Yuki would jump from one piece to another. The music was in part composed of Ryuichi Sakamoto’s “Rain” and the “Endroll” of the film, which sounded like a summary of the film’s music. Yuki would fast forward some parts while signaling to Kaori on when to stop and continue. The cuts were jarring.
The Last Emperor was a film about the last emperor of China named Pi Yu. It followed the deterioration of his imperial power from a “Son of Heaven” into a common man. The strings expressed his loss of power projecting a sad kind of fading grandeur.
Kaori was an earnest performer. She readily emoted and enlarged her movements when the music called for it. She was more subtle when the music softened. Her jumps were still light and crisp. There were parts of the soundtrack that were vast and imposing, yet her performance filled most of them with ease.
After she finished, she hopped over to her friends with her hands on her hips, “So there!”
“I like that the best.” nodded Yuki.
“I feel like I can throw myself into the music,” agreed Kaori.
“Tsukki, you’ve been really quiet. You usually have opinions on these kinds of things. Do you really have nothing to say?” Kaori asked, nudging him on his side.
“I’m not really a gymnast.” he said, neutrally.
“Never stopped you before,” she retorted, “Anyways, your opinion is still valid. Not everyone watching will have a strong gymnastics background either. There will be people in the audience like you.”
Kanako and Yuki widened their eyes at each other, trying not to giggle.
“That’s true, we respond differently from a routine of course, but we like to bounce it on non-gymnasts to gauge their reactions.” urged Yuki.
“The Last Emperor medley does suit you well…I just worry that it’s so big and grand. The horns sounded so full and heavy.” he said, carefully.
Kaori nodded as she mindlessly rolled her hoop around herself. “I worry about that too, that I won’t be able to fill the music. Sakamoto is such a big name too, I feel pressure to do his work justice because I’m passionate about his music.
“Kanako says that we can just sub out the really heavy bits of the recurring melody with a lighter version if it’s too much.”
“Other than that, I think it’s a good challenge for you. You handled Sakura, Sakura pretty well. This is bigger and darker. If you’re working towards your performance, this piece should be a good choice.”
“True! I love the piece too! I get goosebumps just listening to it.” said Kaori brightly. She handed the chord for the speakers to Yuki, who was already busy looking through her playlist.
“We’ll take the extra space there.”
Kaori led Tsukki to the back of the mat far away from the part Yuki was settling herself into.
“Actually I have another piece I want to show you. It’s too short for a competition piece, but maybe I can use it for fun events.” she said, handing him her phone and speaker.
Kaori tried out a couple of starting poses before cueing him to start the music. The twinkling opening notes of Belle Chen’s “Moon-Spotting” fills his ears. His eyes widen, mouth slightly ajar. She winks at him as the voiceover from the NASA archives reporting about a girl on the moon interpolates with softly played piano music.
“An ancient legend says that a beautiful Chinese girl called Chang-o has been living there for 4000 years…” the voiceover announces. Kaori spins with her leg extended back and the hoop around her body.
“It seems she was banished to the moon because she stole the pill of immortality from…her husband…” she throws her hoops at the word “moon” and catches it when the voice trails off.
Tsukki stood in astonishment as Kaori danced her way through the piece. The music did not have the usual highs and lows. The voiceover was also in English, a language not many people were good with in Japan.
“So what do you think?” she said, taking her phone back.
He was quiet.
“I…mmm…” he managed to mumble.
Tsukki did not know how to react .
“Your jumps are still kind of low,” he said, crossing his arms and lowering his eyes.
Kaori rolled her eyes and impatiently tapped her foot, “Come now, that wasn’t what you were going to say a minute ago.”
Tsukki swallowed before he spoke, “I like it. I really like it.” Kaori rejoiced internally at having Tsukki own up.
They both looked away for a minute. Kaori sensed that he was a little overwhelmed and surprised by her gesture. She accepted that that was the most reaction she’d get out of him for now. Sighing deep down, she wished he was more expressive at times.
Tsukki changed the topic.
“Can you still do the flexible back thing where you catch the ball?” he asked.
“Yeah! Now it’s just a fun party trick, but I don’t compete with it anymore. It strains my back too much.” she said, tossing the ball up in the air towards him.
Tsukki’s reflexes alerted him to the direction of the ball. He lunged to the right and dug the ball out with a gentle underhand serve. The ball went up. Kaori caught it with her back folded against her hind.
“See?” she said, with a twinkle in her eye. She put the ball back down and bowed.
Tsukki laughed. Kaori smiled. It was one of the few tricks she did that elicited a reaction out of him when they were younger. He’d pretend to be unimpressed with the skills she had picked up, but when she threw this one out, he couldn’t hide his amazement and smile.
“It’s still so crazy to me how you can do that.” he said, shaking his head.
“If you didn't spend all your time at school and volleyball maybe you could’ve learned it too.” she smiled, bouncing the ball on her sternum and catching it with her palm. She bounced it on her chest up high.
Before Kaori had the chance to catch the ball again, Tsukki jumped up, casting a huge shadow over her and spiked the ball down. The ball she used was lighter than a volleyball. Nevertheless a forceful sound reverberated through the gym causing Yuki and Kanako to turn their heads.
“I’ll be fine.” he smirked, “Gives me more reason to come to your competitions.”
Yuki and Kanako were still finishing up when Kaori and Tsukki headed out. Tsukki was back in his casual wear while Kaori was still outfitted in her varsity windbreaker.
“My brother thinks I’m dating a model,” he murmured, “heard him asking about the type of people I meet as part of being a pro-player.”
“Are you?” she piqued, looking up at him teasingly.
“Would you count yourself as a model?” he asked.
“Not really,” she shrugged.
“I’m too short to be a proper model. Or does he cluster everyone shorter than him into one category of height?” she asked, linking their elbows together as they walked out of the school campus.
“I think you were in heels when he caught us,” he thought carefully.
Just before they went their separate ways home, he slid his hand down to hold hers. Tsukki cupped her cheek and briefly planted a kiss on the top of her head. Kaori smiled. It took Tsukki months to get comfortable with any form of public affection. Now that he was finally comfortable she felt like the affection he gave her doubled.
Tsukki looked up from the kiss and saw his brother across the street, staring right at him with his mouth ajar.
。★  🎀  ---------------------------------------------------------------  🎀  ★。
At the end of their museum trip where Tsukki asked if they considered them to be dating, she asked about their plans for the next weekend.
“Can we go to The Spot on our next Sunday?” Kaori asked him.
Tsukki thought about her question for a bit before he answered, “Sure, but it’s a bit far and we’ll have to walk most of it…”
He kept listing the inconveniences involved, but all Kaori really heard was the word “sure”. She had been wanting to go back since her first year and the chance has finally arrived. She felt a buzz of excitement.
The bushes had been left to grow tall and the patch of grass that guests they had flattened out from visiting regularly was long gone, still the view was amazing and the summer wind remained cool. She stretched her arms while the breeze ruffled her hair and her short, orange summer dress. Her dress seemed a bit short for the temperature but she didn’t mind too much.
Tsukki positioned himself under the shade of his favorite cherry blossom tree and began reading a book on his phone. As soon as he laid down, she was sure he would be asleep in minutes. Taking out two bottles of tea from her bag and a small container of cookies, she had eventually placed herself beside him while she did her crossword puzzles. The long travel there was definitely worth it.
The afternoon sun was still high in the sky casting short shadows onto the ground in the shape of the leaves and branches. Kaori laid down to look at the komorebi. This was one of her favorite parts about the spot. When she stood, she could see the entire city from where she was. When she was down, she had a full view of the surrounding trees and the sky. It felt so long ago since they last laid side by side.
Tsukki had rolled over to her side and pressed his head onto her left shoulder like he used to do when they were younger. He had longed to clasp her hand but had been too afraid to actually touch her. This was his compromise. He had contented himself this way.
Towards the end of Junior High, Tsukki would do this gesture more and more often. Despite knowing what it probably meant, Kaori had pretended to not notice. She had known knew that she would have to move away soon and she had wanted to keep their relationship the way it was. Goodbyes would already be difficult as they are.
At that time she was also aware that her parents might divorce. Her home life could be tumultuous and her gymnastics career was rather stressful during her season. School and her time with Tsukki had been was her slice of peace. He had made her happy. She did not want to upset him by telling him she was leaving or directly saying that she did not reciprocate his affections.
Kaori turned sideways too and nuzzled his head on her neck. Resting her chin on the top of his head, she closed her eyes and pursed her lips. Her gesture felt simultaneously awkward and filled with warmth and pleasure. He hesitantly put an arm around her waist. He didn’t draw her near. Instead his hand sat on the fabric of her dress. They laid still with the wind ruffling their hair. She could feel him melt under her touch.
Kaori had been shivering from the gusts of wind that had been was blowing all around. With her eyes still closed, she felt Tsukki shuffle a bit to take off his denim shirt and wrap it around her back (he still had a long white sleeved shirt on). The denim was still warm from his body. His scent calmed her down. In a few minutes she was asleep.
Tsukki felt drowsy, but he forced himself to stay awake. He didn't know how long her arms would be around him. It would pass by all too quickly if he let himself sleep. Keeping still, he let himself stay buried in her neck as she slept beside him under the shade of the tree.
When she began to rouse, he dreaded her pulling away. They returned to reality and he would have to let go now. He knew she was awake but did not move. He didn't mind. Anything to make the moment last just a little longer.
Kaori’s arm had begun to feel numb. She had pulled her arm back to readjust herself. Tsukki had clung back onto her, re-burying his face onto her neck.
“Can we stay like this just a few more minutes?” he mumbled, holding onto her waist.
His request caught her by surprise. For as long as she had known him, Tsukki reveled in looking tall and intimidating. Even when he was asking to spend time with her, he would act like it was her idea to do so, thus maintaining his facade of indifference.
“Ok, let me just readjust my arm.” she said, relaxing her left arm and looping her right around his neck. Her hands carefully played with the locks of his hair, moving back and forth at the back of his head. He sighed in contentment.
After what felt like an eternity with Tsukki’s head on her chest, Kaori sat up to read. Her legs were stretched before her with her knees bent ever so slightly to accommodate Tsukki’s head. After napping in her arms, he has now decided to put his head on her lap. She was worried that if she straightened her legs, his head would roll off her lap see under her short orange dress where she would accidentally flash him and therefore ruin the moment. She was half-tempted to take the denim shirt he had put around her back to cover her legs.
Exhaling loudly, she thought she would never be able to recover from that kind of humiliation. She would have banned him from all her competitions to cope. Luckily, he didn’t seem to hear her sigh because he had his headphones on.
Moving her book subtly, she looked at him as he guided her fingers through his hair. Although Tsukki rarely asked anything from her, lately he would knock his hand against hers and bump her shoulders when they walked. It was like he was craving for a semblance of touch.
They didn’t talk much all afternoon. It was if they were afraid to break the spell they had fallen under. However the weather was beginning to cool and sunset would set soon. Their slice of silent paradise was ending.
“It’s a long way back.” murmured Tsukki, “We should leave in ten minutes.” He didn’t look at her as he talked. Instead, he began to play with her fingers with his left hand, while he held the book he was pretending to read with his right. He hadn’t turned the page of his book for 10 minutes. There was no way he was actually reading. Kaori couldn’t fault him. She hadn’t been reading either.
“Sure,” she nodded. In a passing moment of courage, she bent down to give him a kiss on his cheek. His eyes widened as she pretended to go back to reading. Her heart was racing, but she wasn’t going to admit that to him. It felt exhilarating to kiss him.
He put his book down and gently pulled her face back down to his. She pulled away getting ready to stand and said, “Ten minutes is up.”
“We don’t have to leave now.” he said, hastily sitting up and looking a little upset. Though she tried to look as unconcerned as she could on the outside, Kaori wanted to chuckle. He was so easy to rile up.
“We should go.” she insisted, feigned standing up, “It’s getting late.”
“We can stay another ten minutes.” he argued.
“Ok, ten more minutes,” she feigned her sigh, sitting back down beside him. Tsukki sat awkwardly beside her with his legs in front of his chest, not knowing what to do next. She was perfectly indifferent as she opened her book. He closely stared at her as if wishing something would just happen.
“What?” she asked, turning towards him with her book in hand.
“Nothing,” he said, looking away pouting furiously with his brows furrowed.
“Alright, alright,” she put down her book and drew his face in for a chaste kiss on the lips. He smiled while pressing his forehead against hers, their noses barely touching. From the side of her eye, she could see him helplessly smile.
“So is this still a field trip?” he asked, cheekily.
