director's commentary on vintage fic. go

Oh boy, here we go. Jo knows how long this fic took me but for context I wrote like half of it back in July on an airplane and then left it alone for a WHILE because I wasn't happy with it. Then I finished it up -- doubled the word count somehow -- and posted!

You, Me, We're Vintage: Director's Commentary

I think it's obvious I got some inspiration from a song. This is a songfic, surprise! (I have a lot of those). This one is inspired by the song Vintage by NIKI. I had a lot of thoughts going into this, mainly how to handle the already established dynamic between them. I wanted to show that they had history -- and not a particularly good one. These are two women who have a loottttt of drama, so how do we show that?

Funnily enough, all the flashbacks are what I added after like six months of not working on this wip. Almost all of the reunion scenes at the pub are what I wrote on the first go, then I later broke it up and added flashbacks to it. All of like December I was struggling and then I got this structure idea from another fic of mine I wrote around that time, Love Shot. I really liked how that fic turned out, especially how I was able to fit so much of the au (which could be its own multi tbh. jesus if someone asks for a directors commentary on this one..) into like 3k words, so I tried to do the same here but on a more personal level.

In vintage, it's set like a year after the finale. They haven't seen each other since. Originally I was going to have the entire thing be post-canon, including the flashbacks, but I couldn't visualize a timeline. Then, I think I was talking w the server about the To Steal or Not to Steal special episode and was hit with where they could have their first one night stand. Their "trysts" start before Dark!Carmen, which makes it even more conflicting for her <33 because she doesn't have the excuse of being brainwashed.

Redtiger is hard to write because they're constantly in a game of cat and mouse, BUT they always think the other is the cat. That's what makes it funny. Carmen is staring at Sheena like, "she's so smart, always a step ahead" while Sheena in actuality is like "Oh this is pretty I wanna steal it" and vice versa. They talk like they can never reveal their true intentions, but they always end up doing so.

Sheena stealing the jewelry the night before Carmen shows how close they are in wavelength, but not exact. The predictable line comes to mind but Carmen is too late in her predictions. The Cartier-inspired bracelet is an extra touch for my personal nerd benefit. Before my flight I went to a museum exhibit showcasing Cartier so those jewelry were fresh in my mind. At the end of the fic they're falling back into their old habits and their wavelengths align.

Because Sheena's insufferable; because Carmen likes making trouble for herself; because they're one of the only ones that truly get it, scars and risks and all.

Ah yes, this. That's the crux of it, isn't it? That's why they're so fascinating to write. Carmen doesn't want to admit she cares. Sheena is ridiculously confident in reading people. This isn't a rewrite of their history, it's a tribute of it: them upholding the tradition after a long break. It's messy, it's definitely not healthy, nothing gets resolved, and they STAY messy. Xxxx what more can you ask for. One step forward two steps back fr.

summary: your memories have been wiped after failing a mission. how do some yandere vile operatives handle that?

pairing(s): tigress, crackle, paperstar, mime bomb, carmen sandiego x reader

the cold of the metal chair stings your back. groggily opening your eyes, panic sets in as you feel the rope wrapped and tied around your wrists. you'd inspect where you currently are, but you can't, not with this blonde woman sitting in your lap. tigress' nails are gently caressing your cheek, a loving action but threatening nonetheless. your breath quickens as her lips raise into a smirk. "scream, and you'll regret it..."

"you're so beautiful like this," crackle whispers. "under me." your face flushes, hot with want. the man above you, holding himself up by grabbing fistfuls of sheet, seems completely different than the one you went on a date with today. however, you certainly aren't complaining. little do you know just how carefully the aussie has planned this. how many tiny details and perfect words went into making you his all over again.

her eyes drown you. so full, wide with eager anticipation. your hands tremble as you grab the neatly wrapped box in front of you, trying to ignore poisonous smell. you panic as you try to see if there's a correct way to open the box, hoping to not infuriate her and end up with the same end as your roommate. you open the package carefully, setting the ribbons to the side. dread clouds all of your senses as the human heart stares into your soul. paper star laughs, softly and cute, as if she played a harmless prank. "do you like it?"

"could you do 'trapped in a box'?" and he does, gloved hands staging himself as a pathetic victim who's stuck in nothing. you chuckle either out of genuine humor or pity, you're unsure. your housemate found you after losing everything, from memories to your home. you were so close to giving up but he showed you a kindness you weren't sure was real. the very least you can do is support his miming gig. you're still clueless to the fact that invisible strings are the easiest to pull.

carmen's body heat was perfect for a lullaby. however, your headaches kept you wide awake. you move your girlfriend's curled bangs away from her face and tucked them behind her ear. that action seemed to stir her sleep, which you immediately felt awful for. you whisper a quick sorry and for her to resume her rest. she peers up into your eyes before her own droop back into sleep. "you're too sweet...i'm so glad i didn't have to hurt you..." the shock of her statement lasts longer than it should've. she must be joking, or sleep talking, there's a reasonable explanation. right?

She tries to get some blackmail on you, so that you hang out with her more

You see her as a bitch, but she doesn't care, as long as she has your attention

Girl loves talking shit with you [Especially when it has to do with Carmen Sandiego]

Whenever anyone fucks up, she's quick to mock them to you

She wants you to agree with her

If you don't, she gets mad at you

She'll ignore you as a way to make you mad, but it does the opposite effect

Which only pisses her off more and you're going to get an ear full for it

The Hope of Loss

Tigress/Sheena x Fem reader

The days were blending together into a grey much of emotions that passed by to quickly to process. How can someone who looked so numb be feeling so much? In your situation, you knew there was no happy ending. Torn between choices that lead to equal tragedies which solidified that fact that you were truly alone.

The days became shorter as it felt like you were wasting away. A cycle of emotions after emotions being hidden by a dull exterior and a promise that you would be fine.

You showed hope for others but had none for yourself.

Yet you pushed on for no reason at all. Still getting out of bed in the morning to get dressed for work. Even with your whole self you still followed through with an important part of routine: Kissing your girlfriend goodbye even if she was still asleep.

It appears today though she was awake as she gently grabbed your wrist. “Hey,”

Sleep made her voice slightly deeper but you couldn’t help but admire it nonetheless. “Stay with me today.” Before you could reject she pulled you back down onto the bed. “Who gives a damn about work right now? Screw money I know what you really need.”

You looked up at her in curiosity, Sheena kissed your forehead and put the blanket back over you. Careful hands played with your hair. “If only you didn’t feel you have to fight so hard. If only you didn’t try to do it alone.”

You stared at the wall, head on your pillow. “Talk to me, dammit. You know I hate seeing you like this.”

That’s all it took you to collapse, to cry and hug your girlfriend tightly. You weren’t alone, it was ridiculous for you to pretend you were.

Somewhere, out there, there’s always hope.

Their Valentine's Day Plans

a/n: happy valentine's day! here's something quick :3 possibly part 1 of more?

pairings: carmen sandiego, graham (gray/crackle) calloway, zack, ivy, shadowsan, tigress, mime bomb x reader (seperate, but welcome to read as poly)

Carmen likes to indulge in your Valentine's traditions. She's learned many stories about what happens on the holiday globally, but spending it with you is special to her.

Graham takes you out for dinner, somewhere nicer than your usual places for your dates. Expect flowers!

Zack plans a day of fun with the best food around. Amusement parks, Races, Movies, you name it. This will be one of the very few times where you'll convince him to try fish. (He still won't like it)

Ivy uses the holiday as a spa-day for the both of you. She insists on spoiling you, a small thank you for being by her side through the chaos of Team Red.

Suhara (Shadowsan) asks you to join him for a night on the town. Quiet and shared moments between you both are few and far between, going where the night takes you two is a perfect opportunity to have some one-on-one time.

Sheena (Tigress) begs for a date indoors. Jet lag is catching up to her and nothing seems more appealing than holding you in her arms, cheesy movie reaching it's climax, with delivery on the way.

Mime Bomb tags you along for a night of thievery. Everyone's distracted, either by their plans or by their loneliness, and that means more pockets and stores are unguarded. Keeps his eyes out for anything you'd like as a gift.

carmen still considers origami quite adorable and sometimes makes small ones for shadow-san, gray or someone from the team shadow-san has no clue "how to make these... selfies" and for a while now hideo has some pretty funny photos of him jeantonio paint each others nails like 100%. i imagine the whole class joined them. i mean, imagine brunt walking on them all sitting with nail polish in hands. the silence carm deffo had influence on her style after cleo's lessons. she's ✨gorgeous✨ chase is the one who watches 300-episodes stretched tv shows until the middle of the night ivy and zack absolutely ADORE listening to shadow-san's stories about the time he was yakuza "OMFG DID U FR GO AROUND WITH A KATANA LIKE THAT???"
