Hi, I was reading on cane types and cane customization from a few blind and other visually impaired people! However, I do not know if it was clear or not based on the information I was reading, is it okay or appropriate for a blind or visually impaired person to customize their cane? (Example: Putting puffy, tactile stickers on their cane, obviously not at the handle or the tip of the cane)
Yes, customization is fine. Canes do not need to be a specific color or style, so adding stickers is acceptable. I have added keychains to mine in the past. Small stickers would probably work as well. However, stickers are, to my knowledge, mostly made for flat surfaces. This means they are more likely to fall off, especially larger stickers that need to curve around the cane. My suggestion is small stickers or a light-weight keychain. If you want to write about someone being disappointed that they lost a sticker because it was too large and fell off, that would work as well.
I wonder if anyone has tried to glue a larger sticker to their cane if they had success with it.
manual wheelchair with and without highlights, active wheelchair with and without highlights, rollator with and without highlights, and a quad cane! just noticed the rollator is darker than the others but. oh well
can you do mobility aids/other aids? wheelchair, cane, crutches (forearm prefered), walker/rollator, also like headphones, fidgets, communication cards or talker. sorry if thats a lot im autism 🪿
wheel chair user and cane user emotes ! both w/ & w/o text !
since this request has a bunch of separate things , im going to post with just these ones for right now then reblog later once ive done the others ^^ hope you understand !!
Finally had a chance to post my customized mobility aids. First up, my cane!
Pictured: a foldable purple cane covered with stickers of cartoon ghosts, cats, spiders, and candy. End picture ID.
Next up, my found-for-free-on-social-media-that-I-painted-and-fixed-up walker! It includes my handmade glow in the dark dinosaur basket, custom made grippers, and a custom paint job. It is an electric blue base, accented with sky blue for the wheels and bottoms, with lime green accents around the rings in the middle. The basket and hand grippers are made from a Dollar Tree blanket with various dinosaurs that if left in the sun long enough DO glow in the dark. It is all made by me.
So anyway I'm gonna take a break by making those wrist straps for canes starting with your classic rainbow pride.
Should I make them available to preorder on my store?
If people can start sending in orders for pride wrist straps (or possibly a commission option for custom ones like the custom bracelet) I could put the money from the first few orders towards buying the rest of the supplies and even shipping
I know earlier someone said they had friends who'd be interested and that got me excited
For info:
The straps, like the bracelets listed in my store, are pride themed and made of light weight soft embroidery floss so you won't have to worry too much if having something on your wrist is a sensory issue for you. They're hand woven with multiple strands depending on the flag colours, same thread my mom and I use for small sewing projects really. I'm going to use a bead to tie them off so I might add an option for bead choice. And they'll be attached to the cane with a simple stretchy band and one of those circle key chain things, the last two I can get from Michael's or staples, the beads if I run out I can pick up from the dollar store where I get the threads.
The only thread I really worry about with sensory issues is the metallic threads (gold and silver) which tend to fray at the ends easier than the embroidery floss but since I'm tying it off with a bead the ends will be closed and shouldn't be an issue
Any input is really helpful, if people are interested in ordering early to help pay to get them made and shipped that would be awesome
At the moment I'm trying to save up what I do have for my meds and upcoming appointment. So I don't know if I'll have anything to spend on the supplies I need just yet.
Cane emoji! Both a version in my basic colour scheme and an empty one for you to fill in with your canes colour. Also, a white outlined version of each for folks who use darker discord themes.
The stunning art that I commissioned from @mysticmiav is now up on Zelfliefde! She absolutely knocked this out of the park, and it is so soft and lovely. The piece is of the bed snuggling scene in chapter 4, where Kaz & Inej are in bed with Krai cat.
Peep the art under the cut!
Seriously, SO GOOD. Look at the crows! Inej's knives on the dresser! Kaz's cane! Krai cat! She nailed the details! Thanks, @mysticmiav!!
hi!! I love your emotes! could you do a emoji with a cane that says “keep watching, I might do a trick.”? And if you want, a couple other ones with different mobility aids as well. Either way I hope you have a great day/night and thank you so much! ^^ /gen /nf /pos
There's many types of canes so I didn't know which to do, but hope these work! May do more canes/mobility aids in the future when we have more energy though
I keep thinking about how Seer would have the most venomous tone while talking shit about someone and then it switches to the happy customer voice when they answer a call for Pigsy’s Noodles.
“— and then they have the damn fuckin’ audacity to say it was my— … hold on—“ they pick up the phone, “— Hi, this is Pigsy’s Noodles! What can I help you with?”
Mei and MK get a whiplash from it because WHAT was that switch up 😭
