I just watched the x-files episode “never again” and I am mad about it
they had the opportunity to do a scully centric episode for the first time in maybe ever and the best idea they could think of was scully being impulsive because she is disappointed about her life?? and it wasn’t even well executed.
and her internal issues that they decide to address is previously non-existent daddy issues. it has been well established that she had a loving and close relationship with her father! it feels like the only internal conflict that the male writers could conceive of a female character having is daddy issues.
her sister literally died because of the fact that scully has, for a so-far unexplained reason, devoted her life to a wild and dangerous job and followed mulder repeatedly into unpredictable and dangerous circumstances. why does she do this? how does she feel about the fact that her sister died because of her choices? those are the issues I want addressed, not something the writers pulled out of their ass that doesn’t even fit with previous canon.
you’ve had this character for three seasons and you can’t think of a deep and compelling internal conflict she has? but mulder has 47 that are constantly being addressed

How could this X-Files Poster lead to true love?
Tumblr media
Find out in the newest episode of You Are What You Love! Alex C. Telander, writer and creator of the audio fiction podcasts Circe and The Ostium Network, joins to talk about the cultural juggernaut that is The X-Files.
We discuss how the show was inspired by Twin Peaks and went on to inspire other cult classics, the dichotomy between wanting to believe and being grounded in science, and how the show helped Alex meet his wife. Tangents include fan convention culture, the beauty of DVD box sets, and what we'd like to see in an X-Files reboot.

Round 3 - Catholic Character Tournament
Tumblr media
Propaganda below ⬇️
Enrico propaganda
He grew up in the church and became a priest. so devoted to his faith he ended the UNIVERSE to achieve the perfect world aka heaven
Hes Catholic but also so gay for this one vampire that he ended the world for him
He is LITERALLY one big metaphor for the catholic church as a villain. He’s a guy who believes himself to be a martyr on a fundamentally altruistic quest that will better humanity and the world, but in truth hes a destructive force blind to his faults and hypocritical of the atrocities he commits. Even his altruisim is just a lie (that he does believe himself though) because it all just stems from a deep rooted desire he has to alliviate the guilt he feels. Also hes obsessed with ”the world to come” to the point that hes downright nihilistic towards the current world he actually lives in, as well as the other people in it. which i mean. lol. Ultimately hes an insane delusional queen and he should win this because he is just That catholic. also he is a catholic priest :)
his names pussy bc he served cunt (in a catholic god honoring way)
I want my bestie’s guy in bere
No one could feel guilt to this level if not catholic
Religious Allegory mostly woth how his power(white snake) is contradictory it has white to make you think of good things but it contrast with snake a creature that tempted adam and eve. Although he is a Man of faith his stand’s design is far from it being incredibly intimidating and lined with the genetic of dna whihc is scientific compared to faith.
Bro tries to kill a child
serial killer priest bro
HE IS INSANE He spent his whole life believing in fate and when his world turned around Shakespeare tragedy style he made it his mission to bring 「HEAVEN TO EARTH」, which means TEARING AWAY THE FABRIC OF REALITY SO THAT EVERYONE IS AWARE OF THEIR OWN FATE. How does he get there? Simple! By using a half-baked horse to SPEED UP TIME UNTIL THE UNIVERSE RESETS AND LAUNCHES EVERYONE INTO A NEW WORLD. How did he GET this horse??? Oh, as one does - his (dead) best friend’s toe bone grew into a baby made of leaves that vored him, but he survived and grew even more eyebrows than he already had. And that’s without getting into the STUFF that makes him a phenomenal, S-tier, fine wine that EXPLODES and causes you to see VISIONS type of character. That’s just the surface. But, ah, that’s Catholics for ya. Vote Enrico Pucci for king of the Catholic tournament. 👍🏻
Dana Scully Propaganda
in a world of monsters and paranormal activity and alien conspiracies her faith is still important to her and I love her for it (well. that and many other reasons)
She’s a doctor but quit to become an FBI agent so she ends up just doing autopsies on people who died to ghosts or aliens. She is usually super factual and a huge skeptic, but she has repeated crises of faith and has to go to church to chill out. She feels guilty about everything constantly. Her family members remind her to be more catholic and then they end up dying and then she feels even worse. She gets abducted by aliens.
Most of her character arc revolves around struggling to square her faith with a) being a heavily skeptical scientist b) aliens being real (something she resisted very strongly on the grounds that she’s a skeptical scientist) c) being abducted and getting pregnant and nearly dying as a result of said aliens being real. Struggles with this so much that she’s in the confession booth like :grimace: especially because her investigative partner Mulder is a) an atheist b) believes in aliens just as strongly as she believes in Jesus
Refuses to believe in aliens because there’s absolutely no proof for it but then spends a whole ass episode trying to convince Fox “Aliens abducted my sister” Mulder that angels are real and can cause miracles. The sheer quantity of scientific qualifications she has only to turn around and say she wholeheartedly thinks biblical angels are 100% legit

Epilogue
February 2002
Leaning back in her chair, feet up, she watches the surveillance footage outside Fox’s apartment, just like she does everyday. She could hire someone else to do this task, but she has always preferred to do the little jobs herself. The devil is always in the details.
Her phone rings, and she automatically raises it to her ear. “Fowley.”
Her attention doesn’t waver from what she sees on the screen: Fox exiting his car, jogging a little as he enters the building, an evidently buoyant mood. He’s been coming home from work earlier than usual these past weeks, but she’s seen no indication he’s especially worried about anything. Likely he’s simply a new parent eager to see his offspring.
“How’s your pet project?” asks the voice from the phone.
Fowley stiffens, looks around the room reflexively. She is always unnerved that the smoker seems to know exactly what she is doing at any given moment.
“Going fine,” she answers in a pleasant, conversational voice. “No problems as of yet.”
“There’s been no interest in the child? Besides your own?”
And yours, she thinks. “No,” she says. “It’s all gone as expected.”
The groups interested in Fox’s son have either been eliminated or distracted. Any still remaining at the time of Dana Scully’s return became virtually irrelevant after September 11th, when shadow agencies became less tolerant of all fringe religious groups. This had all been predicted—by Fowley, yes, but even more accurately by the smoker, who seemed to have some indication something like September 11th was going to unfold. Fowley doesn’t like to dig too deep into how or why.
“And the child? Have you observed anything interesting about him?”
“Not too interesting,” Fowley answers. “He has red hair.”
“He may outgrow that.”
Fox is in the building now. Knowing his habits, he probably will stay in until morning. He’s all about family life now. Who would have seen that coming, back when she first met him? She grimaces, leans away from the monitor.
“The child mostly just resembles a pile of blankets from this distance,” she says. “His parents haven’t behaved unusually yet. No sign they’ve… noticed anything.”
“They could be exercising discretion, of course.” She hears the sound of a lighter. “They could be aware they’re being watched.”
“Yes,” Fowley agrees. She huffs a sigh. “It’s really unfortunate we couldn’t observe the child in closer proximity.”
“Well, you can thank your own failures for that,” he comments affably. “If your little experiment with Agent Scully’s memories had been more successful, she and the baby could have been safe with us.”
“I’m aware,” she responds coolly.
“And you weren’t very successful at your first plan, either,” he says, now adding an edge of obvious mockery to his words. “Becoming the child’s mother yourself. Despite your initial confidence. Humiliating, I’d imagine.”
“Not especially,” she says easily. She’s had way too much experience now with him to let him get a rise out of her. “It’s better that it’s Agent Scully anyway. Her own experiences and personal history increase the probability of Fox’s child developing to his full potential.”
“How magnanimous of you, Diana,” the smoker chuckles. “Your selflessness knows no bounds.”
She makes an apathetic humming sound, but clenches her fist tightly until her knuckles crack.
“I suppose now there is nothing for you to do but wait,” he adds. “Keep an eye on the situation. Let the child grow up.”
“Yes,” Fowley agrees. “The situation is stable for now.”
“And Agent Scully’s memories…”
“May come back, at least in some respect,” Fowley allows. “But I still think the full scope of the project will be … unclear to her.”
“We at least can be very certain the child is well-protected,” he adds. “They’re very fond of him, no?”
“Parents are often fond of their own children.”
He chuckles again, apparently impervious to her irony. “Yes,” he says. “Even the strongest man is as vulnerable as his devotion to his child.”
Even now, every once and a while, he still is capable of saying something that plucks a string of dread within her.
“So nothing to do but wait,” he repeats. “No action at this time.”
“Yes,” she says. “We’ll just keep things on pause for now.”
Her gaze falls on the monitor, the motionless grayscale exterior of Fox’s apartment. Fowley continues to think, always unsettled, always ambivalent.
***
Scully has their laundry folded in a perfect semi-circle on the bed. Truthfully it’s far more organized than it really needs to be, but she is a little restless, ready to get back to work soon, and her mental energies are channeling into eccentric directions.
Her headphones are in, her new music on, and she’s dancing a little as she works, although she’d deny it if someone asked her. Listening to music has become so oddly significant to her now, in her 21st century life. It comforts her, drowns out the especially persistent anxious voices in her mind.
And more than that, really.
Sometimes, when she’s listening to something and the conscious part of her brain is distracted, she’ll get an image of something strange. Just a momentary flash. A high school bathroom flooding with water. Her hands digging in the sand on a beach, some place muggy and beautiful. It's not enough for her to mention to Mulder yet, but she’s hopeful. Hopeful and paying close attention.
She’s not paying any attention right now, she realizes. Scully freezes midway through the act of folding her shirt, suddenly aware of the muffled sound of her name being called somewhere in the apartment.
Her head spins around. She plucks off her headphones and sprints into the living room, where Mulder stands in his work clothes.
“Scully,” he exclaims in relief.
“Shhhhh.” She waves her hands frantically. “Not too loud,” she whispers. “We’re in the bedroom. He’s sleeping.”
“You scared me,” he says in a lowered voice, putting his bag down and kissing her. “You weren’t answering.”
“I’m sorry. I was listening to my birthday present,” she admits sheepishly. She pulls the new iPod out of her pocket and turns it off. “I should be more aware of my surroundings.”
“You kids and your rock-and-roll music.” Mulder makes a tsk-tsk sound and slides his hands around her waist. His tone is light, but she can still hear his heart thumping fast as she presses her head to his chest. He’ll probably always be tightly wound when it comes to her and the baby.
“Mulder, look at this.” She breaks away and holds the device’s interface awkwardly up to his face, using the wheel to scroll through song titles. “There are hundreds of tracks on here now, since I have access to the Gunmen’s MP3 downloading system. Look. Alicia Keys. Prince.”
“My little music pirate,” he says fondly.
“I don’t think it’s entirely illegal.”
“Oh no,” he says solemnly. “The Gunmen would never.”
“Are you concerned about my lawbreaking ways?”
“A little,” he breathes into her ear. “Would you, uh, like to do the federal agent questions the suspect thing, Scully?”
She laughs softly and runs her hands down the front of his pants, eliciting a groan. From the other room their son chooses this moment to let loose a cry, signaling the end of his nap.
“Ah, predictable,” Mulder says with a resigned nod. “He has my sense of timing.”
“He’s missed you,” Scully says. The baby escalates to a steady series of wails.
They follow his cries into the bedroom. Mulder is already stretching out his arms. He’s usually eager to pick the baby up when he comes home at the end of the day.
“It’s all right,” coos Scully. “You’re all right.”
Mulder reaches into the crib. “Oh, come on, now,” he says gently, lifting him on to his shoulder and massaging William’s back. “None of this. I thought you were supposed to be a member of this new upbeat generation.”
“No, not him,” Scully says. “He’s too young. He’ll be part of whatever unoriginal name we’ll give the next generation.”
“Shhhh,” Mulder says, whispering in the baby’s ear. “It’s okay. I understand that you’re an individual with a unique personality and can’t be reduced to communal traits based on the year you were born, even if Mommy doesn’t.”
“That explains what he’s so mad about.” Scully smiles, perching on the edge of the bed, careful not to knock over her piles of laundry. Her eyes follow them as Mulder rocks William back and forth, gradually settling down the cries. She wonders if there will ever come a time she isn’t enthralled by watching the two of them together.
Mid-sway, Mulder closes his eyes, pressing his nose into the baby’s fuzzy head for a moment, and his own smile drops away. She knows he can’t help feeling the weight and import of it, having his son in his arms. He never takes any second for granted. Mulder is always so aware it’s something he easily might not have had at all.
“Anything interesting happen today?” he says, turning his eyes to Scully.
She understands the implications of the question.
“No,” Scully answers quietly. “Well,” she adds, “I may have seen the mobile move as I left the room. It could have been …. an optical illusion.”
He nods cautiously, his hand still moving up and down William’s tiny back.
She stands up and takes a step closer to him, barely speaking in a whisper now. “Did you find out anything new?”
He shakes his head grimly, still bobbing and swaying with the baby, and leans towards her, also in a barely-there whisper. “You haven’t mentioned it to anyone? Not even your mom?”
They’re instinctively reluctant to speak about it out loud. Even in their own apartment.
She shakes her head tightly. William makes a squawk and then yawns, stretching his tiny pink mouth impossibly wide.
“Then there’s nothing to be done right now but wait and see,” Mulder says. “Right?”
“I guess you’re right.”
“We’ll keep it between us,” he whispers. “No one else needs to know. You and I will figure it out, Scully.”
“And when I go back to work?” she breathes, lowering her voice again. “What if something happens at daycare?”
“We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it,” he says. “Maybe I’ll stay home with him for a while. Or some other plan. We’ll think of something.”
She winds her arms protectively around the two of them, resting her forehead on Mulder’s bicep. “You’re very confident,” she remarks against him.
“Well,” he says, “I can always say now that the worst has already happened, and I’ve already survived it.” He rests his head against hers, and she shifts so that their heads make a protective arch over William.
“Hmmm,” she says.
“We survived it,” he corrects himself.
“So we’ll keep William’s little tricks discreet,” she whispers. “We’ll wait and see. Maybe try to find out more at work.”
“That’s the plan,” he says. She can feel his hot breath on her face. “Plus, raise a kid and be pain-in-the-ass federal agents. Oh, and have a honeymoon. That’s an important part of my plan.”
Her laugh is full and rich, and she finds herself fiddling with her ring on the hand that’s pressed against Mulder’s back. “I honestly don’t know how we’re going to make a honeymoon happen for a while, Mulder. We’ve got this newborn.”
“We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it, too,” he says. He kisses her gently, right over their lightly-cooing son. Mulder’s eyes are soft and bright. “It’s just on pause for now.”
NOTE: I thank each and every one of you for your many supportive, amazing, sometimes-unhinged, always-delightful comments and messages. I appreciate each and every one of them. I worry a lot when posting a fic, and this feedback is so wonderful. I'm truly grateful. I'm now going to make a pitch for a coming attraction! If you liked Pause, you’ll love this! There is a WIP I'm currently a beta for being written by @sisterspooky1013. She started writing this fic, Gaslight, about the same time I began this one, and when we read the beginning of one another's fics, we worried: uh oh, these are so similar. (It turns out they aren't really.) But Gaslight is amaaaaaaazing, and the angst will kill you. It's not finished yet—I wish she would, so I can find out what happens—but watch out for it. It will have you in a chokehold.

Madam Scully’s Spiritual Services, Inc. (3/?)
Something about the dead had always intrigued Dana Scully. They had stories to tell, assuredly, but communing with them from the great beyond was not exactly how Dana had imagined having a conversation with those that had passed. The idea of forensic pathology had taken a hold of her in the last six months. The idea that the dead could speak to her – that the evidence they carried around could help solve the mysteries of their endings – be they naturally occurring or not – planted a seed that she could not root out.
Missy knew of her plans to attend medical school, but Dana had not told her what she planned to do with the advanced degree once she had it. Her parents had been brutally murdered, and she was sure that Missy would see the choice to become a forensic pathologist or medical examiner as some kind of bid to solve the mystery of their deaths – a way to hold onto the trauma of their passing. And, she had to admit, maybe there was something to that. Melissa had wanted Dana to let go. And while Dana had moved on, she had not exactly put the past behind her.
She shoved a loose shank of hair away from her face, tucking it securely behind her ear and sighed. She’d been up all night thinking of the man who had come into the shop – Fox Mulder. Despite Melissa’s adamant insistence that the voice Dana had heard had been from beyond the pale of life, she wasn’t entirely convinced. There might be a more rational explanation. And by the time dawn broke, she had decided that she had to at least talk to Fox Mulder about it. He was, after all, the only other person in the room.
She had searched for him, and all her searching had so far been fruitless. She’d checked the white pages, the yellow pages, university directories (she wasn’t sure why, but she’d pegged him as some kind of academic). She’d even tried calling C&P Telephone Company and its new parent company, Bell Atlantic, asking how she might track down a number. All had proven useless, and the later two, snottily unhelpful.
She slid the MCAT study guide back in front of her. There would be other investigative avenues, she just needed to think of them first. In the meantime she would put her head down and study. But the words swirled around the page in front of her, and she couldn’t focus.
Huffing another irritated sigh, she stood from behind the front counter and made her way into the curtained room where they did their various readings. Missy was in the small side office in the back of the building going over their books, and so Dana thought she might take a moment to see if she could maybe hear the voice again. Maybe it was an echo from the restaurant next door, maybe it was…
Once the curtain closed behind her, the room took on a cloistered, insulated feel, the ambient sounds of everyday life muted and dulled. She sat down in the chair reserved for she and Melissa and lit the three candles that sat in the center of the room, closing her eyes.
It wasn’t like she’d never tried this. After her parents had died, in those miserable weeks where she and Missy had had to roll calls with the police, the church, the funeral parlor, relatives, the social security administration, the bank; after they’d had to handle all the various necessary bureaucracies that come with the end of a modern life, Dana had walked into this room in emotional disarray with the thought that she could speak with her parents. That she could maybe say all of the things that were left unsaid between them. That she could listen to them in kind. Her sister ran a business that claimed people could speak with their departed relatives. Her sister believed, actually believed that it was possible. That it was likely. That she herself could hear voices from beyond the grave. Why not try to talk to them in this place that was readily at her disposal? But the room had remained silent. No voices ever spoke to her. Not her parents, nor anyone else. She tried tarot. She tried Ouija. She’d actually tried a goddamn seance. But none of it had borne any fruit. One night, Melissa had come into the room while Dana sat in it, put her arms firmly around her sister and said: “They’re not here, honey.”
The room before her stayed as quiet as it had all those many months ago. If anyone was here to talk, they weren’t saying anything. Finally, after probably fifteen solid minutes of silence, the candles in front of her guttered again and she looked up. Melissa stood holding the curtain open that led to the back rooms and gave her a sympathetic look.
“Any luck?” she asked.
Dana gave an embarrassed chuckle. “No.”
“I think it’s good that you’re trying,” Missy said, moving into the room and running a hand along Dana’s shoulders before lowering herself into the chair across from her. The same chair that Mulder had sat in the night before.
“I think it’s ridiculous that I’m trying.”
“Believe what you will,” Melissa said. “I don’t think the spirits care one way or the other.” The crystal on the choker she wore flashed dully in the candlelight.
Dana sighed, rubbed her face.
“Maybe the spirit is tied to him,” Missy went on, tilting her head to look at Dana kindly. “Maybe he’ll come back.”
“Maybe he will,” Dana said, not really believing it. “And what if he does?”
Missy cocked her head to the side in question.
“Let’s say he comes back. Let’s say the spirit,” Dana gave the word a dismissive, condescending inflection, “comes with him. What then?”
Melissa shrugged. “I don’t know. Something brought him here last night. Maybe it’s on us to find out what it is.”
The irritating thing was, Dana was pretty sure Melissa was right. Otherwise she wouldn’t have spent the last three hours fruitlessly trying to track him down.
Missy leaned out over the table and grabbed Dana’s hand, squeezing it in sympathy. “The answers are there, Dana. You just have to know where to look.”
XxXxXxXxXxX
Two weeks later
The night was warm, but not uncomfortably so, the heat wave of the last several weeks having finally dissipated, leaving the residents of Washington DC a little sun scorched, but relieved.
Dana had left the front door to the shop propped open with half a cinder block, the soft sussurus of the cars going by drifting into the doorway along with the smells of carnitas and hot tar, and the flowery scent of the detergent that the cleaners next door used to launder shirts. It was a hazy, dream-like evening, the best kind of summer night, and it took every bit of will power she possessed not to shove aside her studies and go outside to enjoy it.
Missy was in the back with a regular client and the night had been otherwise slow, and Dana watched the sky turn from the easy blue of dusk into the warm pinks and oranges of sunset, the neon signs in their windows humming in contentment.
The sweep of a car’s headlights briefly flashed across the desk and she reached for the green-ish glass bottle of Coke next to her and took a sip through a red and white striped straw. Was there anything better on a warm summer’s night? She thought not.
She was just getting back into gear and focusing on the words in the textbook in front of her, when she felt the heavy presence of someone else in the room with her. Looking up and half expecting to see the hazy outline of a ghost, she was instead met with an even more surprising sight: a full flesh and blood mortal, none other than Fox Mulder.
“Oh!” she said, surprised, raising a hand to press against her chest.
“Sorry,” he immediately apologized. “I didn’t mean to scare you. Your door was open.”
“Yes,” she said, getting her breath back and trying to regulate her heart rate. “It’s um, it’s a really nice night.”
“It is,” he said, rising up on his toes and then lowering himself back down. She half expected him to snap his fingers and swing his arms in front of himself for a clap.
“Can I help you?” she finally spoke when it appeared that he probably wouldn’t.
He shook himself. “Yes,” he said, reaching back into his pocket to pull out his wallet. “It occurred to me a few days ago that I left here without paying, and that’s not exactly a good look for someone in law enforcement.”
“You’re a cop?” Dana said, genuinely surprised.
“A federal agent,” he clarified. “I’m just finishing up my training at Quantico.”
So he was young, Dana thought, probably right out of college. Only a year or two older than her.
“Well copper,” she said, “you do owe me ten bucks.”
Mulder smiled and reached into his wallet, pulling out a twenty dollar bill and handing it over. Dana opened the till and started to make change when Mulder held out a hand. “Keep the change, please,” he said. “It’s the least I can do for running out on you.”
“Okay,” Dana said, sliding the ten she was about to hand him into her pocket. “Thank you.”
Mulder made no move to leave. “I’m… sorry about that, by the way,” he finally said. “I don’t mean to offend, but the whole thing at the end was kind of… weird.”
“No offense taken,” Dana said, sitting up straight. “It was weird, what happened at the end.”
“You mean most customers don’t bolt out the door without paying?”
“As a general rule, no,” she said. “But what I meant was, the thing about the scarf,” he moved on his feet, uncomfortable. “That’s not something that usually happens. I’m sorry if it scared you.”
“It didn’t exactly scare me,” he tried to explain, “but it did… I guess what I want to know is… What exactly did… happen?”
Dana rubbed a tired hand over her eyes and glanced back at the curtained room. With Mulder standing in front of her once again, she was beginning to get that creepy feeling up her neck, and the thought of the reading room kind of wigged her out. “Do you want to go outside and talk?” she asked him, swallowing thickly. “There’s a couple of picnic tables around the back we could sit at.”
“Yeah,” Mulder said, darting his own eyes toward the back room. “That would be nice.” He looked as relieved as she felt.
He stepped out and onto the sidewalk in front of the shop and then stood back to let her lead the way. On her way past the taqueria, she paused for a moment, inspired.
“One second,” she said, holding up a finger, and then darted into the taqueria, emerging less than a minute later holding two frozen paletas. “Okay,” she said, looking at him as she came out the door. “This way.”
He followed her obediently as she turned onto the small sparse grass space next to the parking lot, the ground below their feet mealy with crushed asphalt and broken glass. She hiked her way up to sit on the table part of the picnic table, letting her feet rest on the bench. From where she sat, she could still keep an eye on Madam Scully’s door should a customer show up.
Mulder lowered himself down beside her, mirroring her position. She handed him one of the paletas. “Mango,” she said, peeling open the wrapping to grab the popsicle’s wooden stick.
Mulder raised his eyebrows, but accepted the treat politely, opening the frozen confection and taking an experimental bite. “S’good,” he said. “How’d you know what I’d like?”
“One of the perks of the job,” she said, smiling and sinking her own teeth into the tart delicacy.
He smiled at that and took another bite and they eased into a comfortable silence. The paleta started to melt under her ministrations and a drop of mango juice started running down her wrist. She licked it off, and when she looked up she found Mulder watching her, something sharp behind his eyes.
“So Quantico, huh?” she asked to distract them both.
Mulder looked back down at his own popsicle and took another bite. “Yep,” he said with his mouth full. “I’m going to be a real life FBI agent, ma.”
Scully considered this. “Maybe that’s why it was so hard to track you down.”
Mulder sat up upon hearing this. “You tried to track me down?”
Embarrassed, Scully tucked back into her dessert. “You owed me money, see,” she said nonchalantly.
“Ah,” he said, tipping his head back. “I was wondering if it was…” he trailed off, and Scully found herself desperate to find out what he’d been about to say.
Mulder took the last bite and placed the wooden stick into the wrapping, and threw it in a perfect arc so that it landed squarely in a trash receptacle a few yards away.
“Nothing but net,” Scully said, impressed.
Mulder smiled at her and looked away.
“So I think you might be holding out on me,” he finally said.
She tilted her head in question.
“I think you might be Madam Scully, after all. There’s no other explanation for the thing you said the other day.”
Dana tilted her head down, looked away. “I may be Scully, but I’m certainly no madam,” she said quietly.
“So how did you know about the scarf, Scully ?” he said, emphasizing her name in a playful way. She thought of him as Mulder. It kind of worked.
“I don’t know anything about the scarf,” she said. “What happened in there…” How could she describe it to him? “That’s never happened to me before.”
“So what did happen?” he asked, quite seriously.
“After our reading,” she started, “I heard something.”
“Something?”
“A voice,” she admitted. “Telling me to ask you about the red scarf.”
He stared at her in wonder. “What kind of voice?”
Dana hadn’t really thought about it until he asked. “A girl’s voice. A little girl.”
“So you’re the real thing, huh?” He finally said, more in wonder than anything else. “I never would have… I pulled in for tacos .”
She huffed a rueful laugh. “Then can you explain it to me?”
“You need me to explain it to you?” he asked incredulously. “You’re the fortune teller,” he went on. “And you heard the voice of my dead sister. I was hoping you could explain it to me .”

Your post about your Damerey origins got me curious... I've never gotten into x-files fics, but I did watch the show in reruns and there was just... no one cooler than Dana Scully (except Batman, but like... he was fictional and Dana seemed like a real person to me b/c my delusions started early in my life).
I've really been mulling over a re-watch. I'm a completist and would have no choice but to watch it top to bottom, movies and all.
Buuuuut.... do you have any favorite season arcs or episodes?????
Wow, this question really made me think. Honestly, this show was so much a part of me for so many years, it's hard to imagine that I haven't watched a single episode in years! Coming here to Tumblr and connecting with people who are current fans has helped my inner Phile reemerge, and I too crave a re-watch. And like you, I'd have to start from the beginning.
I can't say I have a favorite arc. Obviously the Cancer arc was the most important, but as a whole I've just always considered the series as one story (kind of like Star Wars; it's hard for me to watch just one movie, I have to watch them all). I can point out episodes I love from every season, although I will admit Season 6 is probably my overall favorite, hopeless romantic that I am.
I absolutely adore the first movie, Fight the Future, and can watch that over and over and over. I saw it in theaters 5 times, which tied a record for me that wasn't broken until The Force Awakens came out.
Tumblr media
My three favorite episodes are:
Pusher
Tumblr media
Triangle
Tumblr media
Beyond the Sea
Tumblr media
Other eps I know by heart include: Ice, Irresistible, War of the Coprophages, Grotesque, Paper Hearts, Small Potatoes, Bad Blood, Folie a Deux, Monday, The Unnatural, En Ami, Je Souhaite, This is Not Happening/Deadalive, Audrey Pauley, and Improbable. I enjoyed parts of the revival, but not enough to really get into it, and I was not happy with what they did to William, so I have trouble accepting Seasons 10 and 11 as canon. I loved seeing David and Gillian together again, but I wish they had stayed with Monster of the Week episodes instead of making the Conspiracy even more confusing and unbelievable than it already was. Also hate what they did to Monica and Skinner. So, yeah...
Anyway, this show truly changed my life. It gave me the best friends in the world, as we met on-line over 20 years ago and are still friends to this day. Here we are through the years; the first one we are on the Queen Mary, where they filmed Triangle, back in 2007. The last was my 50th birthday last year at Galaxy's Edge.

And of course, it's what first got me started in fanfiction.
I may be devoted to Damerey, but I will always be a Phile and proud to be an original shipper.

Scully was not sure what was happening here but honestly it was well needed. After everything she had been through, finding out she was with child, having him alone, losing Mulder and finding Mulder just to lose him again. Then she gave up William so he could have a better life.
Tumblr media
It was all so much for Scully and she was just happy to have some kind of normalness even if it was with her boss. Which in all honestly she felt Skinner was more than just her boss now. He was a good friend. Someone she felt that she could trust.
A small smile formed on Scully's lips as she poured another glass of wine. "Ok so tell me, what was the most out there thing you have seen with your own two eyes?"

Was tagged by @astriiformes to name 10 songs I like with names in the title. It’s a fun challenge! Nate named two of my own favorites too (“Dawson’s Christian” and “The Mary Ellen Carter”) so barring those:
Sam Jones by C. J. Cherryh and Leslie Fish
Signy Mallory by Mercedes Lackey and Leslie Fish
Calypso by John Denver
Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac
Nell Flaherty’s Drake (traditional) by The Clancy Brothers
Dana Katherine Scully by Tacocat
Who The Hell Is Edgar? by Teya and Salena
Barrett’s Privateers by Stan Rogers

Fun mix of folk/ballad and dance/disco lol.
