I think I decided against following the pens this season because 1. I was already committed to paying more attention to the NBA anyway 2. I think I’ve lost faith in the front office during the off-season (probably started…hmmm since they gave up Jared McCann lmao). But extending Jeff Carter, not resigning ERod, all the defenseman acquisitions??, and not to mention dicking around with Geno’s contract has actually made me deeply disappointed in the front office and I just had no faith in the bottom six and the goalie tandem (no offense to Jarry) going into this season so I just…wished them well but had killed 87% (get it haha) of my interest unfortunately.

I’m sad that I was right but I do still hope that they make the playoffs but Hextall def needs to be fired.

The backlash against Frozen, which, from my observation, has cooled down (that isn't a joke, I swear-) quite a bit over the past few years, was less based on the quality of the movie itself and more on the fact that its massive success and reach really overshadowed a lot of other movies that came out prior to it and after it and was getting credited for stuff that had already been done before plenty of times, and in many cases, in those exact movies. This is why, to this day, many fans STILL refuse to give Tangled its props without trying to put Frozen down in some way. In their eyes, Tangled should have gotten the glory and accolades Frozen received, but did not, and that made them quite jealous. Overall, Frozen is far from a bad movie. It's a great movie with a great message, characters, music and does actually deserve the success and recognition it got, and some fans need to stop being so salty about it and uplift their fav movies without putting Frozen down so they get the proper appreciation they deserve as well. Although, yes, the credit this movie got for allegedly introducing themes, archetypes and tropes that had already been seen before in Disney, including movies set in a fairytale world with heroines as the protags, was undoubtedly the most annoying part about its success and is part of the reason why many tried to drag this movie and its main leads.

the reason why bejeweled feels very calvin to me still is how it parallels high infidelity. in general, the 3am tracks seem to explore a darker, more explicit side of a storyline that’s already present, if only in the form of subtext (like we don’t have a direct parallel for wcs, but we do have two songs exploring formative past relationships vaguely sexually, and wcs is the darker example), on the main album, and bejeweled/high infidelity is perhaps the best example of this. its similarities to tolerate it, which is about something she felt ‘at one point in her life,’ back this up. HOWEVER, I do think it’s exploring a potential outcome of the then-current state of her relationship with joe. like, this is how things could go - I have forgotten that I have a man in the past, and I can do it again.

ok ok i'm probably reading way too much into this but. i was thinking about how, in genshin, most of the characters have a character details section that's generally quite in-depth for a surface level introduction to the character, with the character being presented to you in-context to give you a pretty good idea of who they are as a character without having to rattle off their whole backstory to you. here's jean's as an example:

The Knights of Favonius are the protectors of Mondstadt, the swords and shields of the city. In addition to keeping the city and the surrounding travel routes safe from the threat of wild monsters, the Knights' most important responsibility is maintaining order among Mondstadt's inhabitants. Mondstadt is the City of Freedom, but unchecked freedom without any kind of rules only invites chaos and anxiety. Jean's understanding of this is the reason she remains diligent at all times, holding herself to impeccable standards. However, she often finds that she exhausts her monthly quota of coffee within the first few days of the month as a result.

but venti's really doesn't feel like that (to me at least) at all, with it seeming more like a basic checklist of likes and dislikes:

An unknown bard that came from nowhere. He sometimes sings outdated songs, other times he hums new ones that none have ever heard of. He likes apples and lively atmospheres, but hates cheese and anything that is slimy. When channeling Anemo, it appears in the form of feathers, because he likes things that look light.

if you look at it it really doesn't go into what he's like as a person At All and while that isn't necessarily uncommon it's the way that it's phrased specifically that makes it seem more like the basic kind of stuff you'd say in one of those awkward icebreaker activities than just a surface-level introduction. this is, however, actually somewhat fitting for his character, because he never does talk about himself in any depth - he's always there, willing to give a helping hand to people and giving them hints but when you think about it no one actually knows anything about him; they just see him as the bard who sings songs and knows about music and i feel like that just. says a lot about him as a character in the fact that he never really lets himself be vulnerable
