overthinker- lars pinfield x reader

a/n: short one bc im still in a slump rn many sorries. also sorry lawl this fic is so disconjointed and i’m really unhappy with it but whatever 😭 warnings: nothin proper i don’t think, most ooc lars to ever ooc, unedited; tell me if i've spelt smth wrong 😁

“Would you want to go out to get some lunch together on our break?” Your fingertips bounce off of the sides of your legs as you try to remain composed. You're so high-strung right now, you almost expect him to laugh in your face. Nerves and the effects of having slept a fitful two hours last night override your usually rational brain and you feel the need to just run away without receiving an answer bloom in your chest.

“I thought you usually brought lunch? If you forgot to bring some you can have some of mine, if you want.” Lars doesn’t even look up from what he’s working on, just adjusts his glasses and uses a vague jut of his elbow to point to his locker, where you know his bag is. Your heart simultaneously drops and stutters.

“Oh, it’s okay, I just felt like going out to eat, thank you though.” You try to make your words seem more upbeat than you feel, unsure of whether or not to take his words as a rejection.

“Oh. Okay then.” It must be your imagination, but his words hold a hint of disappointment. You open your mouth again, then close it, and silence re-envelopes the room. Turning, you make your way to your desk and begin to work away, dejection slumping your shoulders forward and making time drag on. When eventually the lunch break arrives, you grab your bag and rush your way out of the lab.

A squeak of shoes on the concrete floor behind you almost has you looking back, but your brain is so addled you almost believe you’ve made it up.

Like a fool, you don't talk to him when you come back, or when you leave, the time you spend alone and in silence building up an anxiety in the back of your mind. The idea that he's all too aware of your feelings, and is made uncomfortable by them and your advances overtakes you completely. That night, you stay awake, tossing and turning, over analysing every interaction you've ever had with him, trying to make sure you've not overstepped and made a complete and utter fool of yourself.

In the morning, you consider it a miracle you leave the house at all, with how tired you are. The thought of calling in sick crosses your mind, but by the time you get up your body automatically locks itself into its usual routine, and you mindlessly get dressed and make your way to the Ghostbusters facilities. Through your drowsiness, the realisation that you’re at your desk and doing absolutely nothing sets in and you jolt.

“Good morning.” If he didn’t sound so concerned, Lars would sound thoroughly amused. “You alright? Look a bit…off.” Your face flares, and you go to stand up, only to stumble and almost fall on your face. Hands out, you stabilise yourself, and then face him.

“Yeah. Morning.” You can only hope that he backs off, because his concern seems too genuine for your feelings to not expand exponentially the more he stands before you looking like he cares. “M’feeling just peachy, you?.” Belatedly, you realise your words are clearly not convincing because he doesn’t move an inch, simply studying you. He then sighs and shakes his head, chuckling a little bit, just softly under his breath, taking a couple steps closer to you.

“When’s the last time you slept?” His voice is too gentle, too un-Lars-like, that you’re almost convinced you actually did fall asleep last night, and now you’re dreaming. You open your mouth to respond, but find yourself nodding off as you do so, the last thing you process before fully passing out is the feeling of arms around your chest and shoulders.

When you come to, you sit up quickly, and slowly become aware of what had happened. Muttering cursing to yourself under your breath, you take in your surroundings, finding yourself slung over the small couch situated in the room reserved for taking time off from work briefly. Hurriedly, you rush out of the room towards where you assume Lars is working, apology already on the tip of your tongue. You approach him quickly and loudly, a fact that can be gathered from his head immediately snapping up when you enter the room. He starts to speak, no doubt to rattle off reasons why you were irresponsible and stupid for coming to work while being aware you weren’t at your fullest capacity, but you cut him off.

“God, I’m so sorry. That was humiliating, and I’m so, so sorry that it happened, it won’t happen again.” You bow your head, refusing to look him in the eye, but quickly look up again when you hear him laugh.

“It’s fine, really, you just scared me a little bit.” His smile is small, but sincere and you remember fully the reason you were in the predicament in the first place. “Are you feeling better now?”

You probably look a bit crazy with how vigorously you nod, but you barely care anymore.

“Yes, thank you so much, really, I’m sorry that it happened.” He laughs again, and it sounds like heaven.

“You don’t need to thank me or apologise,” Lars’ eyes sparkle a bit behind his glasses when he properly smiles, and you can feel warmth rush to your face. He hesitates, like he’s calculating his words, then gently says “I-uh. I care for you a lot, it really meant nothing for me to make sure you were okay.”

BUT you've got my blessing (and most of our artists* - just make sure to credit them appropriately!!!) to rip the assets from the game and do whatever with them. im not gonna sue, not like i own the pq assets in the first place lmao. would be a huge hypocrite if i got on someone's ass for breaking into my project to make transformative fanworks out of its assets when thats literally how pqr was made LMAO

umbrella - i assume this doesnt need an answer for both of them, bcuz they belong 2 the same story. i imagine ian and rammys story being a vidya game, and i guess itd b a psychological horror? which feels like, pretentious to say but the main scaries of the story are how much ians life sucks and he wants 2 die. so... i think itd count. thats all overarching stuff tho... most of ian n rammys time spent together is lightheared, i think. theyre two dudes hanging out and one of them is slowly coming to terms with the fact his suicidal thoughts won. whatever genre that is

pencil - WAHHH it depends a lot of the time... ian and rammy have definitely made a big resurgence in my brain recently (past month) bc im 18 and can post bout em, but also just cuz i love them sooo much and want to chew on them constantly. id say i write abt/draw them pretty frequently tho!! i doodle them on my school work and in notebooks a lot and they have some of the bigger galleries on my toyhouse lawl. i dont write much directly for their universe, but ive typed... many paragraphs to my friends just braindumping the shit i think about them. so, yeah, less often than id like, but theyre up there in my priorities of ocs :3

apple (for ian) - GRAHHHHHHHHHHH u dont know what demons uve unleashed w this. i already twed this post for suicide but im gonna move this part under the cut bc mentioning ians dad specifically ties a lot into the suicide aspect of the story

OKAY SO. ians family consists of his mom, sister, and him. his dad was in the picture when he was a little kid, like early elementary age, but ditched after some time. his relationship with both parents was relatively normal, they definitely couldve done a better job raising him, but they were never intentionally hurtful nor did they scar him at all. (well, correction, his MOM didnt scar him at all)

after ians dad left, though, his side of the family still kept in touch... they gave very flimsy reasonings for his fathers absence, why he couldnt make it to holidays, why he wasnt saying all these things directly, etc. it kept things strained and tense as the family knew things were being kept from them but never got to know why. the last interaction ian ever had w his dads side of the family was on his 18th birthday, where his uncle gifted him a silver handgun with his name carved into the handle. it was a hollow attempt to connect with ian, a display of violent masculinity that ian would later use to try and take his own life.

i dont have it fully figured out what this *means* for ians character, but its something i go insane about. ians only memories of his dad are him doing stereotypical masculine dad things w him, like fishing. maybe he didnt interact w ian ass if he was his child, but if he was his son, and that improper socialization is part of the reason he hates himself- why the gun is what kills him. but... i dunno really. ians social anxiety, addiction, and general collapsing in on himself are cuz of a life time of mental illness that went unchecked until he successfully isolated himself to the point no one *could* care, not just cuz daddy give him gun.

okay! that is NOT what u asked at all but now u know it. hehehe. of course ian and rammys story is a big wip forever so excuse me for any side tangents and/or general plot points w loose ends

but! as for his actual relationships w family (ill include sister since his relationship w mom isnt rlly fleshed out yet):

he and his mom havent spoken in 6 years, nor have he and his sister. he slowly faded out of their lives when he moved away, partly out of a subconscious desire to isolate and partly due to just not having the social confidence or energy to maintain regular communication w his family. his mom is the first person he talks to when he escapes his Puter, and she's his rock in his remaining months of recovery. shes very underdeveloped as a character atm, but what is certain is she tries her hardest to understand her sons struggles and support him, offering to pay for therapy for him. ian loves his mommy lalala

ian and his sister are... dddifferent. ian also had an average relationship w his sister, but shes a lot more upfront with him when it comes to talking about how his 6 year absence effected her than their mom. their mom, while wanting her children to seek help for their respective struggles, doesnt really want to actively talk about those things with them. shes terrified of saying the wrong thing, and it doesnt help that she doesnt even have a clue what *to* say. ians sister, though, isnt afraid to tell him "hey man we fucking missed you. your absence hurt a lot because i didnt have any friends either, and i wish we couldve had eachother. jackass" post main-story they are friendly and hang out. during his time w rammy, ian does talk about his thoughts on his sister before he left, that being that shes a "crazy bitch"... family <3

OK SO!!! this is a complicated question bc im kinda... not really in any tbh or like if i am im only halfway. and i feel bad talking abt all of this candidly but i am going to. the ones i am actively working on (or in one case have finished / submitted) a character for are faith of the clans, future of the clans (which i was part of in 2014 and it was my first wcrp group EVER and i missed it so much so to know its still running 9 years after it started is absolutely wild..... but i cant rp as any of my old characters who i miss so much bc in the current timeline theres no way theyre still alive its been like 4 generations 💔 so my char is gonna be a great-grandchild of one of them lawl), and warriors: long wilds. but i havent rped with anyone yet and tbh its very hard for me in faith of the clans (where im officially a member) bc it feels like everybody already knows each other and has a million characters and im like hiiiiiii.. but yeah. if u have any recs i would be very very interested bc i rly want to find a group that feels cozy and rn i dont have that anywhere yet even tho some of my old dA friends are in faotc and fuotc was where i got my start 😭

woaw vent time? here we go

hello ok i randomly wanna just write about my life and stuff so here we goooOOOooooooooOo

so i moved back to ucla on thursday and my roomie is coming back to tmrw. I finally have decorations in my room and its so cute!! heehee im happy with the outcome although i still want a succulent plant/nature elements but i need to save my money kasi i spent “a lot” this summer LOL I went to the gym alot this weekend and just went to the mall and westwood to walk around and buy some things. I need to stop spending though and actually buy my textbooks for this quarter woops lol. I also went to church today and it was a good message and saw some old faces which was nice. this summer i spent a lot of time trying to get back my guitar skills and i actually wrote a random song yesterday about my former love lawls so yeah. I start work tomorrow and I am lowkey like happy that I got more hours than i requested because i need to earn my money back that I lost LOL (i keep lol-ing everytime i talk about how much ispent but like seriously i need to actually create a savings system this year) anyways school officially starts thursday but i have labs and discussion that day and i got an email saying we dont need to go this week for labs but idk about discussion sooooo yeah idk we will see. I really dont feel like its school like its weird idk im starting my major/upper divs and im scared cause its gonna be a challenge but also kinda excited cause were gonna work with cadavers this quarter and i think thatll be interesting. I also joined a kickboxing class with my roomie this quarter so i am pumped for that too just a way to keep my active. i am dtermined to make a routine for gyming this year thanks to my sisters gym pass this summer she got to teach me how to use the machiens so i dont look like an idiot trying to figure it out on my own so hopefully i cant add more variation like weight lifting HIIT conditioning machines workouts to my routine. I wanna get more fit this year as I do every year to ya know just maintain my health physically and mentally. I want to join a volunteering club this year so hopefully this tuesday i can go to the activities fair to find one i really want to serve this year tbh. I just need to take initiative to start up things. I talked this over with my sissy this summer, how i realized one of my majors flaws is actually that im pretty lazy which i never thought id call myself. but i am, i realized sometimes its not just my shyness its the fact that i wont start up smth. so this year im choosing to take more initiative whether its to join things, talk to people, gym more, volunteer, study earlier and smarter etc. but yeah. tbh my weirdest worry rn is wondering if i forgot how to make a pizza since i go back to work tomorrow and the last time i was working was back in June RIP lol but i think ill be fine it should come back second nature also my work is at 11 which doesnt seem bad right? but NO i have been struggling to get up these past WEEKS like ill wake up at 9 and be like aw ok nice still early 5 more minutes then i wake up AND ITS LIKE 11ISH AND IM LIKE WHAT HAPPENED. so yeah i need to fix my schedule. Well yeah i guess thats my life so far. I think i wanted to write about someone in this but now my hand is cramping and i ended up writing this so yeah its ok well just need to pray to God for guidance and strength this upcoming school year. God you know my worries and fears, but I know you got me. Lets do this.
