Little things adults and older people can do to help younger people and children feel included, safe, and respected as an equal individual:

Ask before touching the young person - even for hugs. Ask before you take pictures of them, and let them see photographs of them before they are printed or sent to others (even family).

Apologize when you are wrong

Ask for a young persons thoughts on a subject, then engage with them after they have spoken

Demonstrate behaviour you want to see from them (see: apologizing). Say "excuse me," say "thank you," say "please" to them

Validate their feelings, even if they don't know how to express them just yet

Remember that this is the first time they've been alive, and that you've had way longer to "figure it out"

These are some things I wish other adults remembered when engaging with young folks. We so often forget what childhood felt like and how unfair it all was because we were often awarded freedoms as adults that we never had as children. These kids are equal to adults, and they deserve the same courtesy, respect, kindness, and understanding we give to other adults.

whenever it rains, it’s ridiculously loud in eddie’s trailer, you could practically sleep outside and get the same experience (aside from getting a little wet, obviously).

eddie, however, because he’s lived there for so long, doesn’t hear a thing. he sleeps like a baby through every single noise you could imagine, not even flinching when a small hail storm blows through. at first you don’t understand, you think eddie’s insane because how could anyone sleep soundly with this much noise going on?

until one night, you’re at your own house tossing and turning in your bed for hours before you give up and drive over to eddie’s because for some fucking reason, you admittedly miss it. you miss the loud pelting of rain and the whistling of the wind with the scraping sound of tree branches against the tin-like roof.

eddie’s mad that you drove in the middle of a storm, but let’s you in either way. you don’t tell him why you came, but eddie seems to understand when you both lay down, tangled in each other and let the loud beating of rain fill out the silence of his room. eddie can physically feel your body relax into his and he immediately knows—- he gets it because he’s the same way. it barely takes 5 minutes before you’re both knocked out and snoring.

eddie definitely teases you about it at the table the next morning, makes a joke that “you should just move in at this rate,” but wayne quickly shuts that down, “save up and move in next door, kids, i don’t need to see anymore than i’ve already seen.”

Laceys Games and Valle Verde are so criminally underrated it's a real shame. I consume a lot of digital horror/arg content but truthfully those two are the best I've seen besides classic Petscop. The way they weave their narratives and their aesthetics are truly phenomenal. One of the reasons Petscop got so big when it did is because there was nothing really like it. I think the same can be said for both Lacey and Valle Verde, I wish there were more people who appreciated just how insanely good they both are. But, I suppose, it is always fun to be "niche"

#the biggest complaint people always have is oooohhhhh its so OVERSATURATED its all the same... #and i get that. to a certain extent #i think there is a Lot of digital horror/arg stuff out there especially nowadays i think it only becomes increasingly popular #but i think most of it is usually pretty good. i think sometimes you'll have something a little subpar like i didnt really care for #the man in the suit but even so i appreciate that someone probably put their heart and a lot of effort into making it and i like it just #bcuz of that. does that make sense? #and i think a lot of it is made by younger people as well. the good stuff is out there you just have to know where to look #or also understand that both genres as a whole are still pretty quote unquote new and also predominantly run by a younger generation #for an overall younger audience. when i say younger i mean like teenagers and young adults #although my bfs little brother loves the mandela catalogue and hes like 11 so maybe even younger #anyways this was kind of rambling but i highly recommend both laceys games and valle verde. its very rare that something like this #Actually scares/creeps me out but both have done so with flying colors.
