Y’know. Anakin was a real asshole in Ahsoka’s hallucination.
Like. She mentions something about what she’ll be able to teach her padawan one day, since all she’s being taught is how to be a soldier, and Anakin’s like “teaching’s not all it’s cracked up to be”
And like. Asshole move. And Ahsoka rightfully calls him out on it. And he goes on the whole “uuuh I was joking. Lighten up.” Literally a complete jackass.
But beyond how he answered the question, it’s a valid complaint Ahsoka is bringing up! Anakin’s teaching her how to live or die. But Ahsoka wants to be taught how to be a jedi.
What happens after the war is over (order 66 never happens) and she now has to navigate a galaxy without a war? The Jedi take teaching very seriously there’s no greater honor than teaching a padawan. And she’s not being accurately taught, so she will not be able to pass anything on to the next generation.
But Anakin brushes it aside because he simply does not respect her or her wishes. Like. He never wanted a padawan, despite teaching being foundational to the Jedi. And he only took ahsoka in because he started to like her and became attached to her. He doesn’t care about jedi legacy, not really. So he brushes her comment off with a joke.
But in the rest of the vision… idk it didn’t feel like we were supposed view Anakin as entirely wrong here. He wasn’t in the right, he was definitely channeling Vader and being an ass, but he was basically the reason Ahsoka survived the fall, right? Bc he was making her choose life? When Ahsoka wins against him it’s sort of like she’s both learned his lesson and moved beyond him. And then for the rest of the season he’s only talked about in positive ways.
And like. That one line ahsoka said was really powerful in relation to the entire point of the show. What does she have to pass onto her own padawan (Sabine) if she wasn’t properly trained herself? That is, perhaps, the only valid plot question asked in the entire show. And it doesn’t get an answer. It’s never even brought up again.

My question wasn't meant to be rude, sorry! I'm a fic writer too, I was wondering if you ever had second thoughts or something. Like, why do this when you could write your own stories? Or write nothing at all?
Oh jeez!!!! Now I feel bad if I came off as salty!
Haha.
This is a great question! Honestly, there’s a bunch of reasons.
First, I’ve never been particularly comfortable with my OCs. I love how many people are passionate about theirs and build whole facets of story into them. My job requires me to read ALL THE TIME and I am forever in awe of how writers can make characters that I genuinely care about… but I just always feel like my own ended up hollow.
Second, I had terrible insomnia after losing my parents the way I did. My therapist actually suggested that I try fan fiction and it just opened up a creative space I forgot I had.
I often think about how Dave Filoni was literally hired to “write Star Wars Fan Fiction” for Clone Wars and his OC(s) like Ahsoka Tano are now beloved in the fandom.
I guess there’s a part of me that finds relief in playing in a sandbox that has some sort of design. It’s a way to hone storytelling skills and plotting, but has scaffolding.
And the scaffolding is kind of a good place to start, even though I have no intention of writing anything to monetize it. But my brain wants to tell stories! I think a lot of us in fandom spaces feel that way? Or just in general. Maybe not?
Alex Hirsch said something at the Requiem Cafe panel about being a kid and imagining all fictional characters living in a dimension… maybe that’s a misquote, but I get the general idea because it’s not an uncommon thought. I can get REALLY deep into the weeds here, but I’ll leave it there.
In general I can say in good authority that MANY current best selling authors cut their teeth writing fan fiction. Some adapted their works into original pieces, others used their experience to sharpen their wholly original stories.
One can also consider various plays from Shakespeare, mythology, and Dante’s Inferno as fan fiction…
So
Why not write it? Especially if it makes you happy.
Thanks for the ask!

ahsoka tano & maturity
warning: discussion of racism, adultification, and sexualizing minors
y’know, this could just be me making connections that aren’t there, but i really wonder if Ahsoka’s ‘non-white’ facial features have anything to do with the way some people in tcw fandom sexualize and adultify her
i’m white and live in a pretty rural place, so everything i know about the adultification of young black people comes from what i’ve heard from black individuals sharing/talking about their experiences online. i am in NO WAY an expert on this subject
it’s just interesting(?) to me i guess, that Ahsoka is treated so maturely by some fans, and even by Filoni and co. in the show itself. Ahsoka is canonically only 14-16 throughout tcw timeline, and while yes, she is a member of a monastic order and a child soldier, she’s still, you know, a child. Yet the team of adults at lucasfilm dressed her up in very uncomfortably revealing outfits and made her hypercompetent to the point that she sometimes came across as a seasoned jedi rather than a padawan learner. I’m not saying there weren’t moments where they clearly portrayed her as a child or had her struggle with learning, understanding, or coping with things, i’m just saying that -- in my opinion -- those moments often felt undercut by how frequently she didn’t need to be rescued or guided like I imagine a young teenager in a warzone would.
Ahsoka is also animated with typically black facial features such as a broad, button-ish nose and very full lips; and is portrayed by an afro-latina actress in live action. I bring this up, because i’m genuinely curious as to whether or not this design choice has anything to do with how the writers portrayed her and how the fandom interprets her.
because she bears some prominent physical resemblances to many young black girls, do some of us unconsciously view her as being more mature and capable than she actually is/should be? because of the appearance she’s been given, the clothes she’s been made to wear, and the very mature skills and abilities she displays ( fighting, commanding military forces, negotiating, engaging in espionage, etc. ), do some of us ( filoni and co. included ) deny Ahsoka her right to be a child?
in tcw fandom spaces, it unfortunately isn’t uncommon to see Ahsoka ( despite her age ) be sexualized and/or shipped with adult men. it’s very disheartening, and personally i wonder if these fans think that their positive depictions of these adult/minor relationships are okay because in their heads, they see Ahsoka ( and other characters like her ) as ‘mature for her age’ or ‘basically an adult’
i find this to be a huge issue, because fiction has always reflected and influenced the world we live in, and to me, Ahsoka’s situation reinforces the terrible position that many black children ( in this case specifically young black girls ) have to grow up in. this observation is obviously extremely minor compared to the much worse things that black children have to deal with, but i still think it’s important to talk about. even the subtle adultification of black children in media can affect the way non-black people view them and how they may even view themselves. in a world so obsessed with the consumption of visual media, being constantly exposed to things like this can be damaging, even if we don’t initially realize it.
again, i’m a white person, so i don’t truly understand what it’s like to grow up as a black individual and having to deal with the particular manner in which society views me. if anything i’ve said was incorrect or offensive, please tell me. and if anyone has anything to add, expand upon, or even contradict, please don’t hesitate to do so either. i’m all ears

The Clone Wars Subtitles: Season One, Part Five
If nothing else, you will come away from reading this one knowing what my priorities are!
The Ryloth Arc: Also known as, “The one where the writer has difficulty keeping her world-building headcanons separate from canon for the purposes of the Subtitles.” or alternately “The one where the writer is distracted from Anakin feels by Twi’lek feels.”
Episode 1X19: Storm Over Ryloth
The one with Ahsoka angst
The one where Anakin is the escape pod peanut gallery
The one that reminds you that Ahsoka is 14 and shouldn’t be anywhere near a battlefield let alone in a command position and that this entire war is being fought with child soldiers.
Episode 1X20: Innocents of Ryloth
Twi’leks! On Ryloth! Rylyn! My children!
You are terribly condescending towards “the natives“ Obi-Wan, you know that.
The one where Obi-Wan and Cody remind the 212th not to blow stuff up because people live here.
The one where you get more evidence of how the Galaxy treats Twi’leks via the Clones.
The one with the weird, smug Head Droid In Charge.
The one where Cody uses Obi-Wan as a hand-grenade launcher/guiding system. Yay teamwork!
The one where Boil and Waxer guess they are the best?
The one with the Clone named Wooley.
The one where they can’t decide if it is Twi-as in eye-leck or Twi-as in twee-lek.
Numa!
The one where Boil gets bit and Waxer is good with kids.
The one where Waxer’s biological clock starts ticking.
The one that is giving me ideas for the Rylyn writing system.
The one that proves that if the Clones were allowed they would be bringing stray war-orphans home all the time.
The one that reminds you about the fact that there are children trapped in warzones in RL.
The first one where Cody gives Obi-Wan back his lightsaber.
One of many that gives me feelings about Jedi and Clones working together.
Does not compute.
The one where Obi-Wan tries to cover baby Numa’s eyes when her village rips the droid sergeant to shreds. She watches anyway. I am grimly satisfied by this sequence.
Episode 1X21: Liberty on Ryloth
More Ryloth!!!
I think Wat Tambor is now one of my most despised Star Wars villains. He invaded and occupied Ryloth!
The one where a standard battle droid officer has a good tactical idea.
The one where the battle droids should have run when they thought they should.
Stupid spy droids. They are problematic.
The one that tries to make us believe that Orn Free Ta is a half-way decent being.
Cham Syndulla!
The one where I realize that I may have become a bit protective and possessive towards Ryloth and its people.
Cham Syndulla has style and flare that would do a Skywalker proud.
Is…that baby Hera?
The one that validates some of my headcanons about Rylyn hospitality traditions.
“How long until I am fighting you, Master Jedi?”
The one where the Twi’leks fight and free themselves.
Did that battle droid just try to mirandize Master Windu?
The one that would have been a million times better if Cham Syndulla had killed Wat Tambor. (I kind of really wanted this.)
Anakin ex Machina
Ugh, Orn Free Taa.
Episode 1X22: Hostage Crisis
The one with the Blue guy with bad hat style
The one where Anakin gives Padme his lightsaber
The one where Anakin poetically disarms himself just in time for a crisis. Because Skywalker Luck.
The one where Bail Organa is practically chanting “Must maintain plausible deniability as to the state of my colleague’s love life” the whole time under his breath.
Why is Filoni so determined to make us see Orn Free Taa as a not-complete-sleemo? I reject this.
