The thing that has been vexing me lately about Fantasy Historical Sexism (vs the real kind) is how it flattens out actual historical politics - particularly in the high medieval period, sexism against female rulers was a tool for people who were already their political opponents for political reasons, rather than a common primary motivator for contesting inheritance. Fairly large numbers of women in medieval Western Europe inherited estates ‘suo jure’, in their own right - not even getting into things like the political power of abbesses (who could often be those same women in retirement, or their sisters or daughters or mothers). 

Historical fantasy tends to be so obsessed with having One Special Woman Who Is Fighting Sexism that it actually erases from the popular conception of history the women who were already there, and the complexity of their lives, and it’s just...very...dull.

What do you think Theodore will be like when we get around to the Vacuo arc? Some people noticed that the headmasters seemed to follow a theme of what Ozpin/Oz was accused of being: Lionheart = "Oz is a a coward who sends others in his stead to be killed instead", Ironwood = "Oz is a heartless man who recruits people to be mindless soldiers". So, it seems like next in line is for Theodore to fulfil the "Ozpin was a bad person/ did terrible things before he repent and redeemed himself" theory people had for Oz pre-V6 reveal. What do you think? I have the post in my blog if you feel skeptical.

I think that's less to do with Ozpin and more to do with their allusions to their Wizard of Oz characters. The Cowardly Lion believes he lacks courage, and the Tin Woodman believes that he doesn't have a heart. So that's what the characters lack here-- the thing they wanted (but truly had all along) in the story

I haven't read the second CFVY book, but Professor Theodore appears in it and I did read the wiki for it. He's described as cautious but enthusiastic about combat, and he's very kind and protective to his students. Maybe he will turn out to be corrupt, but I don't currently think it's likely. Who knows how things will go once we get to Vacuo, though?

Personally though, I don't think that all of the other headmaster's are meant to specifically be debunking what people have suggested Ozpin is like. The other headmasters are all supposed to parallel him to some degree, but I feel like this theory that they represent people's perceptions of Ozpin is centering him more than it should be considering that there are a lot of other factors that inform what these characters are like

Some things about Allan:

He’s the only one who reacts to the narrator

He’s the only doll (besides the Weird House) who isn’t swayed in some way by Ken’s takeover

He also declares himself as “Ken's buddy" (making canon his official box description) which makes his inability to be swayed more interesting

He has bendable legs (probably the only reason he tries to jump the fence instead of going around like everyone else)

He easily decked a half-dozen construction Kens and could probably singlehandedly win the Ken fight

He seems to know more about the real world than most Barbies

He knows what NSYNC is 

He knows about other Allan copies living in the real world (I’m trying to figure out if he made this up to convince the humans he can live in the real world, but even if he did, how does he know what NSYNC is???)
