↳ ❝ how sweet it is. ❞ | #barista! thoma x gn reader, fluff ; coffeeshop au.
Tumblr media
there is no content, only thoma being sweet and accommodating to a reader with social anxiety
c/w: completely sfw, social anxiety
a/n: sort of platonic but it can be read as romantic. just me validating myself. god this is so self-indulgent and probably boring, don't look at me-
oh, and the link directs to a spotify playlist of mine. you don't need to listen to it, i just thought it'd be fun to just add that. like a bonus hehe.
Tumblr media
— coffeeshop au where thoma is that cute barista and you're the nervous customer trying to order but his charming smile is just too distracting.
— but also 'cuz, y'know you have social anxiety.
— you claim you're regular, who visits every week but how come thoma's only seen you now?
— in a flurry, you explain that you usually let the person you're with to order for you. and that you chose to order this time by yourself as a way to practice and build confidence.
— that or your friend may or may not have bullied you into it.
— thoma who gives you this gentle and patient smile as you stammer about your explanation.
— he thinks it's charming how you'd laugh between each sentences, and then smile afterwards. it just saddens him a bit that you would cover your mouth though.
— o-oh but please don't get him wrong! he isn't glossing over your anxiety or lowering it down as if it's simply some quirky personality trait. oh heavens, no.
— he understands how it's probably like a nervous habit, or something you do to stabilize and/or ground yourself.
— (i actually do it to keep myself talking and to fill in awkward silences that i definitely will end up creating.)
— he just thinks your smile is lovely, 's all.
— back to you: he notices another habit. your hands are all over the place—from rubbing against your face, then sliding down to your neck. and then you'll rub your nose. then you'll crack your fingers. you don't seem to know what to do with your hands.
— "ahh, hold on. i'm—oh, wait. i know what to order, i'm just nervous. i'm sorry—"
— "no, no! it's alright. please feel free to take your time." he says, despite the line that's behind you. however you still feel nervous, feeling like an inconvenience to said people.
— but then he gives the air a little fist bump, gently encouraging you.
— you had to suppress a laugh. oh, god he's adorable.
— you manage to recite your order as well as your friend's.
— "gotcha! we'll have them ready in a few." as if nothing happened, he gives you a bright grin.
— you give one back, albeit yours being softer and more mellow than his. and this time, you weren't hiding. you felt so proud right now.
— and so is this stranger who's taking your order! his face grows brighter as he sees your fulfilled expression.
— he could feel his cheeks becoming warm again, thoma absolutely thinks your smile is so nice! please try not to hide it!
— it changes your whole vibe. you look so vibrant and glowing. oh how thoma wishes he could say that but he doesn't wanna seem like a creep and make you uncomfortable.
— so he simply settles with writing a small note on your cup instead.
— he calls your name once your orders were ready and hands them to you with a nod and a smile.
— you return his kind gesture. as you approach your table, you quickly notice your decorated cup.
— "i hope you order from us again. you did great! ^o^ - thoma."
— you felt like crying, this is the sweetest thing you've ever seen. a joyful laugh instead escapes you.
— he even drew little stars around your cup.
— when you do come back and order on your own again, thoma will be there to greet you with a smile.

y'know whats really suprising (at least to me)? that as far as i can tell, nobody has ever made an rvb/tf2 crossover. when ya get right down to it, theyre both about two teams of color coded idiots fighting over nothing in the middle of nowhere who eventually have to deal with grander threats. maybe theyre not exactly ripe fer a crossover due to the differing time periods, but it could be made to work
I wouldn't go so far as to call them crossovers, but at the very height of being into both tf2 and rvb I stumbled across someone's SFM videos with the audio sourced from rvb (taking audio of comedy skits and making SFMs out of them was its own whole genre, so I'd say it was more in line with that trend than a true attempt to cross the fandoms) In all honesty they were...not very good. But my passion was high and my standards were very low so I watched a lot of not very good SFMs during that time anyway.
I did a bit of preliminary searching, and I found some vids with a similar concept (which are also the same level of Not Very Good) but the exact collection of short videos I didn't find. May be lost to history at this point.
Younger me (<== contained not a single drop of SFM skill at the time) often did fantasize about making tf2 SFM animations But Good. I remember distinctly thinking that the "let me borrow the sniper rifle" bit would translate to tf2 so well, and be super funny. Actually! Demo and Sniper's scene in Territorial Control was based on that long remembered joke, arrived through the ages to take on a life of its own.
Circling back to sort of your original point nonny, I love the few times I've gotten to explain rvb to a friend who's only familiar with tf2. The idea that both canons have a conflict of Red and Blue needing to be kept in the dark that they're being puppet-ed by the same organization is so juicy; also, how rvb both takes people finding out both more seriously and less seriously than tf2. How it's both a joke and no one cares, (Tucker about to reveal it, then getting run over by a car and getting convenient amnesia and the plot moving on since it's for a joke and not *actually* a big deal) but then also when it is For Real revealed MANY seasons later, it leads to Sarge's breakdown and crisis of faith. One of my Sadness over tf2 canon is that this level of gravity is never given to the R/B conflict, it's just sort of quietly set aside in favor Mann vs Machine, which is set aside for Fortress vs Classics, which itself is being set aside in the last issue. Red vs Blue proves that you can move on to bigger and more elaborate conflicts, and you could have given a satisfying resolution to the initial duplicity/intrigue of the pointlessness of their whole war.
Anyway, I don't know if any of the rvb cast would get along w the tf2 mercs since their shtick is hating the world and each other, but I do think it'd be funny if the "everyone likes Donut even people who's whole thing is being a bitch" continued into the new canon. All of the mercs are like. Yeah these multicolored space marines who alternate timelined to New Mexico (alternate timelining into other video games is canon in rvb so fuck yeah) suck major ass. But that pink one. I find him oddly charming for some reason.
Texas gets Worf Effect'd. Her canon powers of "can beat everyone up super easily, but always ends up losing due to These Idiot's Hyjinks" absolutely applies when she inevitably fights the mercs.
Sniper takes Church at face value when he says he's a good sniper and is fine with just sitting around and not talking and killing shit. But as soon as they go somewhere to nest up this blue dude will just not shut up for some reason and Sniper gets fed up with him real fast.
Anyway~ most of my thoughts. I haven't been into rvb in a long time but it was nice to jog these old ideas again.

Ohhhhhhhh boy! We have a story on our hands today, Donbura Nation!
Idk about you, but whenever Inoue does his Inoue thing, I get obsessed. This man has a gift for really winding me up, as you've no doubt noticed.
Spoilers, I guess...
-You feel real bad about it, huh Tsuyoshi? It's okay, we might both wind up feeling even worse <3
-Fun fact, before this episode aired, Hirofumi Suzuki and Toutaro (the respective actors of Tsuyoshi and Tsubasa) put up neat little teaser photos. Suzuki's said something along the lines of "You were my best friend, Inuzuka-san", but Toutaro's got mangled by Twitter's into saying something like "Kimono, you were my friend."
-No respect, even from machines.
-Donbura Mutual Support!
-DON'T MAKE IT HAPPEN AGAIN HJKLHJB
-TAROU HJKL:K"
-"Ironically, you fucked up the least last week!"
-...what the fuck was that squeak hkjlhjgk
-"Thank you for doing open heart surgery on me, Don Kaito-san."
-Acting very Tarou!
-...interesting how he's not dying there, maybe he really doesn't believe it.
-"I am one of a kind!"
-Say the two boyfriends with difficulties expressing what they really want but a genuine desire to protect others who'd otherwise shun them.
Sononi: Y'know, I could be wrong, but I don't think imitating your weird boyfriend is a good way to impress him. Sonoza: Bro, c'mon, you were way less creepy when you were just hanging around and acting distant to the only two other people who live here. Sonoi: BEGONE THOTS -Oh shit, they talkin'.
-Aw, they gon' eat.
-...this will end in tragedy.
-Awwww, not in the mood, eh? :(
-The cutest monster.
-...ehhhh, not really a Sun Vulcan fan. Carranger though, that's quality television.
-Hug and kiss the bird man.
-Chef?
-Let's see, police siren... wolf head... Doggie Kruger??? Boss???
-This must be the Tokusou-Ki then. Super Cool. Perfect!
-Don Momotaro!
-Let's go, companions!
-Ahhhhh, Haruka called Sonoza "chief editor"!
-Wow, that doggie got jump!
-Ohhhhh, Tiger Jirou.
-Murasame really fucked you up, huh buddy?
-Had the Dragon to come out for his shift, huh?
-Oooooooh, that looks great.
-Oh, you taught Natsumi how to make this huh?
-This. Do not look good. For Tsubasa Inuzuka.
-Oooogh... this hurts.
-"I bet you tell all the girls that." Ohhhhh fuuuck.
-...hey, Tsubasa, buddy, would you like a bit more champagne? Or whatever the heck this is? Not really a drinker, hehe, but y'know, we oughta relax a little, you're kinda... lookin' a little bit like you're about to go a little stir-crazy.
-Oh, we just
-Goin'
-Okay, bye, see you! Have a nice night!
-Where ya goin, Crane Lady?
-I really have to wonder if the kids and parents who were watching this yesterday in Japan feel just as confused and awkward about this as I do?
-Ah, okay! Crane Lady does fully recognize Tsubasa!
-Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhghhhhh INOUEEEEEEE
-Help
-"Miho-chan?"
-Oh... things are going to go very sour very quick.
-I'm gonna be honest, I did not expect to be so invested in the story of two CGI scrimblo bimbos and the woman they both adore above all else.
-Tanabe!
-That's nice!
-Okay, I think I get the full picture of what's happening now. I think it's possible the Juto's more forceful method of getting Crane Lady to copy Natsumi's appearance affected her a lot more than what happened with Sayama or Mrs. Hanamura, causing an alter to form. I'm, of course, no expert on this subject, but I think that Miho might've formed after Natsumi's no doubt extremely horrible experience of being so violently abducted in front of her beloved fiance and forced to chomp on a paper crane.
-It'd explain why she barely reacted to Tsubasa's presence for so long, even as she was making the dish he taught her right in front of him, but instantly recognized Tsubasa and instantly forgot Tsuyoshi when he said something so personal to Natsumi.
-Hey... Tsuyoshi... are... are you okay? It's okay if you're not, I just want you to think carefully before doing anything rash.
-Sono
-Sonoi, what
-Dude, your styles are not matching up at all.
-...I mean to be fair, Sonoza's one of those guys who probably has like... the one set of fancy clothes that actually fit him. I'd know, I'm one of them.
-Oden. The next Delicious Party PreCure episode revolves around this stuff, so I am absolutely going insane on the inside when that happens.
-Six whole oden chairs.
-Woooooow, okay Shinichi.
-Everybody loves Oden!
-Mmmm... egg. Fish cakes...
-Oden research!
-Devoid
-Egg
-HE ATE IT
-Oh. Oh shit, Sonoi.
-He's back! ...did he leave?
-They're so happy :)
-No haiku for you, macaque man!
-San-juu-ni!
-We were so close to having a normal lunch today, Tarou!
-"Battle first! Friendship later!"
-Dogbird!
-Party Time!
-Here comes the Wasshoi!
-Seiya Seiya Seiya Seiya Seiya!
-Let's gooooo
-Get peached, idiot.
-Big Doggie.
-Let's fuckin' goooo
-Ohhhh, we goin' big big.
-GolDon Onitaijin!
-Pointless!
-NO DON'T YOU DARE
-Oh man, I'd have been so mad at you, Inoue.
-Donbros Utopia!
-We win! Big time!
-Shef
-Sandwich :)
-Oh? What we askin?
-Ohhhh...
-Natsumi Kuramochi.
-Here's the big confrontation.
-Kijino Did Nothing Wrong!
-OHHHHHHH
-OHHHHHH BOI
-OHHHHHHHHH LORD
-GOD DAMN
-Alright, what's the damage?
-OH GODDAMMIT IT'S AUNTIE YURIKO
-Christ, how small IS this town?
-...those are origami cats.
-I am going to die next episode.
-Oh no...
-Oh hey, that's ToQ 1gou's Hyper Mode! Omikoshi Phoenix lets Tarou become-
-Ohhhhhh, wait, nope. Nuh-uh, false alarm! It's just his cape. Sorry folks, didn't mean to alarm you.

and ralph wept for the loss of innocence, the darkness of man's heart and the loss of the dear friend called noriaki kakyoin's character development
#idk dude#i'm an anime only so tell me if this is different in the manga#but istg man#he has the most op ability (read: literal mind control) and literally never uses it past his first appearance#i may be legit just misremembering but was there an explanation for that???#bc i'd get it if he was like so messed up by losing his own autonomy that he couldn't even think of doing it to anyone else#but it'd be nice if there was a line...y'know...explaining that#even something cryptic like after the steely dan fight jotaro asks him why he couldn't just mind control it out instead of the tv thing#and he says smth like 'i can't do that anymore' or 'i couldn't think of it'#or maybe using it a bit at the start and then fading it out#also i thought the whole 'don't trust kakyoin' traitor arc thing would go somewhere but i guess not#like he could do things which seem to hurt himself or the group and the rest could wonder if jotaro really got all the cells out#as it's established that stands can shrink and go inside heads they could go to check only to find nothing out of place#after that there's some kind of confrontation where after standard 'no feelings' talk#he admits he still finds himself slipping back into his old ways of thinking#'i'm better than all of them' or 'i don't belong with these people'#it would be a great thing about how even after the physical marks and scars of abuse are gone the mind is still affected#i think the final sacrifice would have meant more to me if it was clear he'd really chosen the team#rather than simply following along the people who helped him#idk anyway i think he's cool but could have been cooler

─ ੈ༊ your customer is: yunho
vanilla bean latte
Tumblr media
The smell of the double chocolate chip cookies you'd just pulled out of the oven wafted through the kitchen of Sunrise Cafe.
The customers in the seated areas, spoke softly to one another: some laughing, most sipping away at their evening macchiatos and lattes
All seemed peaceful...
until seonghwa came storming into the kitchen
"___" his voice sounded stern and looking at him, he seemed annoyed, and almost offended
"what is it, hwa? frappe machine broken again?"
"no. remember that construction up the road?"
ah, now would be a great time to explain this.
over the past few weeks, construction had started but a few buildings away
there had been plenty of rumours speculating what it could be; a restaurant, a charity shop, maybe a take away joint
but judging from Seonghwa's expression, it wasn't any of those
"it's another god damn cafe! I can't believe someone would authorise that! is our sign not big enough??"
"oh my god, we could lose customers! When's it opening??"
you'd throw off your apron, leaving it in a heap on the floor of the kitchen, rushing towards the entrance door
and there it was, just down the road, a newly build building, no smaller than Sunrise Cafe, stood gleaming in the summer sunset.
"you've got to be kidding me"
soon caught up by Seonghwa, the two of you stand glaring at the building - it was much more modern than your cafe
the windows seemed larger, there was even a second floor!
"we're gonna be bankrupt by Christmas"
"nah, not Christma, hwa..."
the two of you look at each other
"Halloween"
a sign was hung pristine over the front of the cafe, it read "Crescent Cafe" in a swirly font with colourful lights outlining the words
Seonghwa slouched his shoulders - the thought of it even taking his customers drained the energy from him
"well," you begin "who says this cafe won't be absolute crap? maybe they'll drive away more customers than they gain?"
"y'know if we lose customers, the cost for our cafe comes outta your wages?"
"we need to investigate... when did you say it opens?"
"monday"
"oh"
the both of you trail back to Sunrise, your shoulders slouched, head bowed and spirits low
being the only cafe in the area had made really good business; you'd had so many fun and unique customers, and everyone loved the atmosphere your cafe had
during the day, the cafe was at it busiest, so income was at it's highest, and produce was sold out quickest
having a rival cafe would take a lot of that away
pastries would go to waste, not to mention all the coffee that'd be left over
after Seonghwa had told the rest of the staff about the new cafe, everyone seemed to look a li'l depressed
you all worked hard to build up such a nice li'l cafe, and a great team - what if the new cafe tried to hire them??
what if the customers gave up on Sunrise Cafe?
what if everyone's thoughts on Sunrise were changed? buisness could plummet!
that's when the little bell over the door jingled quietly
the muttering exchanged between staff came to a stop as you walked towards the till
"hi there, welcome to sunrise cafe, what can I get you?"
looking up at the customer came as a shock to you, he was so tall!
his hair was a golden brown, covering the top of his eyes slightly
he wore a trench coat of a lighter colour with the colar popped slightly to keep himself warm, and his eyes seemed to match
"um... actually... I'm from the cafe over there, uh, Crescent Cafe... i-"
"then do us all a favour and get out-" Seonghwa hung his apron on his peg, folding his arms and walking into the staff room behind the counter
he still wasn't too happy about that cafe - it'd shaken him quite a bit
"s-sorry about him, he's just a little, how should I put this? upset? about y'know"
"me opening a cafe right next to yours? ah jeez, I'm sorry"
the Crescent Cafe owener folded his arms, an apologetic smile creeping onto his face
"if it's okay though, do you have any sugar I might be able to borrow for Monday? I don't know where to get a bag"
"oh, sure, I guess just don't tell Seonghwa - he'll throw a fit"
"I'm guessing that's the guy who just left?"
the owner laughed, shaking his head "but while I'm here, would it be okay if I got a vanilla bean latte? I... haven't actually tried one before"
"oh? well lemme tell you you're missing out" you'd reach behind you, grabbing a large mug, walking over to the latte machine.
it wouldn't take too long to make, just a few minutes
but in that time, the customer would've already sat down at a table, admiring the decorations of the cafe around him, probably mentally noting things down to use in his own cafe
placing the mug in front of him, the customer invited you to sit with him
"I actually have a few questions, y'know, about running a cafe of my own... i just figured that Seonghwa guy wouldn't wanna talk to me about it"
"sure, that's okay, I can answer a few questions for you... so long as they aren't about hiring me or the rest of my team"
he laughed, picking up the mug and taking a sip, a warm hum sounding out as he did so
"my name's Yunho, by the way" he seemed quite shy introducing himself, looking to his left towards the counter and taking another sip of his latte
you'd nod, smiling to yourself at his timidness
"well, if we're doing that, my name's _____"
yunho looked surprised when you announced your name, probably because he hadn't expected you to reply - after all, everyone else behind the counter seemed pretty sour towards him.
the two of you spoke for a few minutes about the misunderstanding of yunho's new cafe being right next to yours, different coffee recipes and menus
before long, 10pm came, and the atmosphere from earlier died down.
Yunho had made a list on his phone, compiled of useful tips and some pretty cool coffee recipies- all things he couldn't wait to try himself.
but with the time, Yunho found himself needing to leave.
"hey, ____" he'd start "w-would it be a problem if I asked you to help me out on Monday? j-just for an hour or two in the morning!"
you'd look behind you at Seonghwa, who had (and for quite a while now) been glaring at Yunho over the till.
facing Yunho again though, came the real challenge
"are you gonna pay me?"
"y-yeah, I can pay you"
he shrugged his shoulders slightly
"it's just that I haven't been able to hire anyone yet..."
you frowned at him, a scowl forming from the unsure smile you'd shown but seconds before
"you haven't hired staff yet? and you're opening doors in two days?"
"o-oh yeah I wasn't really-"
"what kind of crap is that?"
"____" Seonghwa's voice called from behind you, almost cold eyes meeting your own. he seemed to have emerged from the staff room "come here"
with that scowl now morphing into a frown, you'd make your way over to him, arms crossed and head looking at the floor in disgust
"hwa, he doesn't-"
"help him"
"w-what?"
"help him" Seonghwa shrugged his shoulders, a slight smile creeping onto his face
you'd turn back to Yunho, watching him sip his coffee as he tried to avoid any direct eye contact.
"f i n e" you'd say "but I'm getting paid extra next week"
"or you could get on with it and you can leave an hour early on Tuesday?"
Tumblr media
Monday came, and your shift began at 10am, by which time a small line of curious people had formed.
walking inside you were greeted by Yunho, taken a back by the modern decoration of the cafe
the walls were brick, no wallpaper or paint hiding them away
and there was a huge mirror hung on the wall besides the counter
the aprons here were blue, not a warm maroon like the one you wore over at Sunrise, but the menu boards were pretty much the same
an array of drinks were displayed there; iced lattes, cappuccinos, hot chocolates, mochas
but the one that stood out was written in bright blue chalk
'today's special: Sunrise Vanilla Bean Latte'
that made you smile a little
"so, what do you want me to do?"
Yunho put his hand to his chin in thought, tapping lightly before mumbling something
"huh?"
"oh uh I... just do what you do over at Sunrise--"
for the rest of your 4 hour shift at Crescent Cafe that day, you helped plenty!
iced lattes and cappuccinos were the first to sell out, and the sitting areas were filled within 15 minutes
Crescent Cafe had become quite popular, as it would seem
Yunho could see the look of sadness creep onto your face
Sunrise had never been like this
you'd never sold out, or been filled up as dramatically as this
Seonghwa was right, sunrise would most likely go bankrupt by Christmas.
who'd want to go to your cafe when one like this existed
"hey, ____" Yunho called out to you from the other side of the counter "come here"
but seeing you refuse and continuing to serve customers at the till, he walked over himself, standing beside you
"___, I think I should talk to your Seonghwa about something"
"about what?"
"just... something"
so Yunho took off his apron, folded it neatly and placed it on a shelf under the counter and walked down the street to Sunrise Cafe
going inside, everything seemed unusually empty
whereas before, it would've been bustling with customers
Yunho was met with that familiarly cold stare, greeted with an equally icy tone
"you're back" Seonghwa stood at the counter, arms folded across his chest, eyebrows formed to scowl
"y-yeah, listen" Yunho began, his courage now a memory "i wanted to talk to you about the cafe"
"the cafe?" Seonghwa repeated "what about my cafe?"
"not your cafe, my cafe" Yunho mumbled just loud enough for Seonghwa to hear
"go on then"
the two of them sat at an empty table by the counter, with Yunho crossing his legs nervously
"so?"
"i want to make an agreement" Yunho said "I want to make an agreement about opening times"
"why?"
"so that you get your customers and I get mine" Yunho continued "what do you say to me opening over the weekend aaaaand Mondays?"
a patial silence flooded the room, only the occasional clink of mugs from behind the counter could be heard
Seonghwa looked to his right in thought, would this really be any help to either of their cafes? what'd happen in say a few years time, when neither of their cafes drew in customers? would it still be okay then?
a sigh escaped his lips
"Yunho," he'd begin "if it werent for your cafe, I'd have let you work here with us, ___ could use the help but..."
he folded his arms again, head shaking slightly
"but you seem to be kinda happy with your own cafe. you shouldn't let something like another cafe down the road get in the way of your own achievements. you don't have to make an agreement, just do what you want"
a small smile lifted the corners of Seonghwa's lips as he stood up, placing a hand on yunho's shoulder
"i'll let you decide, Yunho"
Tumblr media
closing time over at Crescent Cafe couldn't have come sooner - your arms hurt, your feet felt numb and you had pins and needles in your left leg
yunho leaned against the wall just behind the counter, quietly observing you as you waved goodbye to the last few customers to leave before letting out a light chuckle at your pained state
"tired, ___?"
"i swear to god i'd better be getting double what i get at Sunrise, that was brutal! you seriously need more staff"
yunho smiled softly. you took off your apron and hung it on a peg on the wall by yunho, before letting out a large sigh and pushing your hair back out of your face
"i spoke to seonghwa"
your ears pricked up at the mention of seonghwa - you hadn't really seen him since saturday
"yeah?"
"and i've come to the decision that i'll open monday, thursday and on weekends - i think it's only fair considering how your cafe was here before mine and it's apparently the best cafe in the area sooo"
yunho's hand hovered over the back of his neck, a nervous laugh escaping his lips at what he had to say
you were more than happy to hear that - no shade on Crescent Cafe of course - but the feeling of guilt still lingered
"well..." you began "i guess i'll head back to start what's left if my shift over there... lemme know if you need anything"
and within minutes you'd grabbed your coat and had headed inside Sunrise cafe to continue your shift, noticeably happier there.
Tumblr media
"___! just dropping in cuz i ran outta sugar again... have any i could borrow?"
"god, order your own sugar! this is the third time this month - it's under the counter"
business at both cafes continued to blossom
Crescent Cafe's hours suited the staff, and it worked flexibly around the booming popularity of Sunrise Cafe - closing at 10pm every night it was open.
"thanks, ___! see you later ~"
seonghwa and yunho seemed to be getting on better too
maybe it was just another one of those peculiar experiences passing by at Sunrise Cafe ~

Spidey Senses (pt. 5)
Peter Parker x reader
Summary: You and Peter get your costumes ready for the party, and Tony gives Peter some advice.
Word Count: 2779
Chapter 1 • Chapter 4 • Chapter 6
Tumblr media
When Peter came into his room, he did not expect to find Ned. When he did, he knew he was in deep shit. He's bad at keeping secrets as it is. And now? Now how is he going to keep your secret identity from his best friend? He's obviously going to ask.
"You're the Spiderman."
"No, no I'm not! Ned, this isn't what you think."
"You just climbed the walls!"
"No I didn't."
"Oh my God this is the coolest thing ever!" His words were jumbled together. "You can stop a moving car!"
"Ned—"
"Are you an Avenger?!"
Peter tilted his head. "I mean, basically, yeah." He then snapped back to reality. "Ned, listen to me for a second. You cannot tell anybody about this."
"Yeah, yeah. Nobody... Okay I need to tell somebody about this."
"Ned!"
"Y/n should know! She's gonna flip dude. Wait, are you in a relationship with the Spidergirl?"
"What?! No." Peter quickly shook his head. "That's, that's weird. Don't say that."
"Wait wait wait, so who's Spidergirl?"
"I can't tell you that." Peter was silently panicking as he pressed his suit center, dropping it to the floor.
"Why not? I already know your secret, and I can't tell anybody. This will be just another secret." Something then clicked. "Oh my God, this means that you know who Spidergirl is! And she knows who you are! You two know each other, and if you won't tell me who it is then that means I know who it is."
"Ned—"
The two fell silent as you climbed through the window and landed the opposite direction from them. You then took off your mask. "Peter we need to talk. Tony just saw me today and—"
You stared at an almost naked Peter and a shocked Ned. Ned then opened his mouth in the shape of an O. "Ooohhh my God you're Spidergirl! That makes total sense on why Peter wouldn't want to say who you were."
"Uhm, wow. Okay. Well, what happened to you? Did you show him, or..." You asked Peter.
"I kind of just did the same as you." Peter nervously shrugged.
"You should get some clothes on." You forced your eyes away from his abs as he awkwardly nodded.
Aunt May then came in. "Peter, I was thinking we could go out for some Tai food—oh, hey y/n! So I take it Ned knows?"
"He just found out." You said sheepishly.
She giggled. "That explains Peter being naked."
You rubbed your neck. "Yeah..."
"Well, come and borrow some of my clothes. We're going out for Tai food."
You warmly smiled. "Thanks Aunt May."
"I'll do your makeup!" She excitedly said as you helplessly looked back to Peter, who gave you the same look, and the two of you left and closed the door.
"Your aunt knows?!"
"Yeah. It was a total accident."
Peter was filming in the hotel as you two did trick shots together. After a bit you stopped and Peter had laid down. He had his phone directly hovering over his face. "Peter be careful. You're honestly setting yourself up to hitting your face with your phone."
"What? No I'm not. Even if I did, I have super awesome reflexes. Don't worry."
It was as if karma hit him, because he wasn't paying attention to the phone and it slipped out of his hands, hitting him snack in the face. There was a pause, and even though this was a perfect time to laugh, you only asked quietly, "Are you okay?"
"Nn, yeah. That just really hurt my nose." He then saw that he had accidentally sent Aunt May the video instead of you when the phone fell. "Um, no! We aren't okay! We aren't okay!"
"Woah, what happened?" You got up from the chair and looked at Peter's phone, seeing the message that was sent to Aunt May. "Oohhh we're not okay!
Then, to both your horrors, she called.
Peter then snapped out of his memories and grabbed Ned's shoulders. "Listen Ned, you cannot tell anybody about this."
"Yeah. Don't worry, I can totally be your guy in the chair."
"The what?"
"The guy in the chair. Y'know, the one who tells you where to go and what to do. They're usually surrounded by a bunch of cool stuff."
"Ned, we don't need a guy in a chair."
He huffed. "We'll come back to it."
After a while, Peter was knocking his aunt's door. "May, are you done? We're hungry."
"Almost!" She called out.
You then came out in May's bell bottom and a zip up off the shoulder crop top. You had light eye makeup and some blush. "Wow." Ned said. "You look like girl."
You laughed and patted his cheek. "What did we say about wording?"
"I meant that you look good." He said as he swatted you away, giving you a goofy smile.
You looked at Peter and saw the red on his cheeks. Was it too revealing? "You, you look nice. Really nice."
Your face felt really hot. "Do you like it?"
"Yeah." He said in a breathless daze. "You look really pretty."
You did your best to calm yourself down. You felt like your face was on fire, and being around Peter had your spidey senses buzzing. He had that same buzzing feeling, and his face felt just as hot looking at you right now. Maybe becoming a man was making him see every girl this way. Yeah. This is normal.
You then told him about Tony, and sketched out some drawings of you and Peter later that night. The next day you and him sat outside of Del's, helping each other pick out which drawing to use. That's when Tony showed up.
"Hey kids. You two ready?" Then he saw your papers. "What are those?"
"Nosey as ever Tony. They're sketches of costumes."
"Can I see them?"
"Nope. Let's go!"
You and Peter met with a designer. You showed her the pictures you wanted, and the you and Peter communicated with the her about the details she wanted to alter. You both then got measured.
When you two left her office, Tony stood up from the waiting room. "What'll it be?"
You grinned. "That's a secret."
Two days later Tony picked you two up to get fitted. He went in with Peter to stir the pot that is you having a huge crush. "So kid, how's it going? Anything you wanna share to the class?"
"Uh, can I ask you something actually?"
"Shoot."
The designer then scolded Peter for moving. "Sorry." He cleared his throat. "Did you ever start seeing girls differently when growing up?"
"Yeah, every boy does. Of course you shouldn't follow in my lead about what to do on those feelings."
"Woah, no! I meant, like, girls you knew. Ones that you were close with."
Tony held back a smile and slowly walked around the room. "Once."
"And what happened?"
"Now I'm trying to figure out when the right time is to propose to her."
"Oh." He fell silent and awkwardly twitched, getting scolded again for moving. "I'm sorry."
"So you're having those feelings with y/n?" Peter turned to see Tony look at him in the eye. Peter then looked away.
"I don't know. I feel weird around her and she's so pretty now."
"Then what's the problem?"
"I like Liz! Like, really like her. So why do I feel like that with y/n?"
"Kid, think about who's always going to be there for you. Who'll never laugh at you unless they have the right to. Who's going to stand up for you instead of quietly watching you get picked on. Who's the girl who'll do that?"
"Well—"
"I want a name. Now."
"Y/n." He surprised himself by saying your name without thinking. "But I still have feelings for Liz."
"Yeah, but she wasn't the first person in your mind." He then paused and looked at Peter's costume. "Wow. Was that y/n's idea?"
He then felt embarrassed, shifting only to apologize again for moving. "Um, yeah."
"Then she's..." Peter gave him a sheepish smile. "Oh God. Really?"
"I thought it would be pretty funny. She said it'd be cute."
"Mm." He then walked out of the room and into the waiting room that you were in. "Interesting to know you're one of those fans."
You giggled. "I'm really not, but I thought the matching would be cute. Do you like it?"
He huffed. "I guess I'll just have to see you two wearing it together."
It was soon your turn to be fitted, and once you were done the lady brought in Peter to have the two of you next to each other. Peter was in a very nice looking Captain America suit. It was in the style of his 2014 suit, and he had a very nicely done shield, one that looked very close to the real thing. He wore no face mask, as you figured this was enough.
You wore a gender bent Iron Man suit. It was a nice and detailed skirt with lines like the suit, while the fitted crop top had the arc reactor design. She gave you fake metal arm sleeves with your hands being connected to fake blasters. You had a simple red eye mask with lines like your skirt.
You grinned at the mirror. You then excitedly turned to Peter and hugged him from the side. "You look awesome!"
"Why would you make him dress up as such a boring person?" Tony asked.
"Because he's the one making me to the party in the first place."
Peter's cheeks reddened. "It was also Ned."
"You were the one who was going to follow me into the girl's restroom for it though." You giggled, and Tony raised his eyebrows.
"That's taken out of context Mr. Stark!"
"Not really. Anyways, what do you think?" You spun around and smiled. Peter dumbly didn't say anything and only slightly shook his head. "What? Why are you being weird? It's not like we're brother and sister Peter."
"No, we're definitely not." He mumbled.
"Then you don't like it?" You frowned. "You know you can be honest. It's just a costume."
"No no! I do, I really do like it! It's just that it looks so awesome that I didn't know how to explain how much I love it."
You furrowed your eyebrows but also smiled. "You're being weird right now, but I'll just assume that it's cause of Tony."
"Thanks kid." He then stepped up to you as you turned to him. He looked you over, awkwardly saying, "You look nice."
"Thank you." You grinned and rocked on your feet.
You were then brought back home and offered Peter to watch TV with you in the apartment. He agreed, and you made the two of you PB&J's as he sat on the couch. You texted Ned to come over, watching TV while waiting. It was cold in your apartment, so you brought a blanket for the two of you. You brought yourself to his side and leaned on him.
"Woah, what are you doing?" Peter asked, sitting up.
"You're not cold?" You didn't see the harm in being close to him.
"Yeah, but..."
"Am I making you uncomfortable?" You asked, straightforward.
"What? No! Why would you think that?"
"Cause you've been weird since last night. My spidey sense could feel it. What's wrong?"
"Nothing, I've just been thinking."
He heard your small gasp and looked into your sad eyes. "About what? Our friendship?"
"I don't know. About my life and stuff..." This only worsened your fears. He saw that you looked even more hurt, but didn't get the chance to say anything before there was a knock at the door. "Wait, y/n—"
"I need to get that." You stood up with a blank face and went to your door. It was Ned, and you silently hugged him before he could say anything. "I'm so happy you're here right now Ned. You have no idea."
"Um, thanks? You know I still love your hugs, but I need context."
"I'll text you about it later. Anyways, come in!" Peter watched you with sad eyes as you took out snacks for Ned, happily engaging in conversation as if you weren't just sad right now.
"Hey, can I have some?" Peter attempted to say lightheartedly with a smile. You only nodded. He took a cookie and nervously nibbled on it. He then cleared his throat as the air had gotten thick for him. "So Ned, so you have your costume for this Saturday?"
"Yeah. I'm going as Mario. I got a cool velcro mustache and everything."
"Good for you Ned." You smiled again.
"What about your guy's costumes?! Let me see them!" You then took out your outfit hanging up in your room and plopped it on the couch nonchalantly. This was making Peter uneasy. "I'll be wearing it to that damn party."
You gritted your words out with a forced smile, but Ned was too busy fan girling over the costume to notice. Peter quietly slipped his hand in yours to gain your attention. You stared at your laced fingers, and squeezed gently before you pulled your hand back.
"Okay, guys," Ned said. "I was thinking that you two could use your powers to your advantage at the party."
The rest of the time together at your apartment felt like a building was laying over Peter. He tried to get closer to you, but you'd move away when you noticed. Once Ned went home, Peter figured that this was his chance. "I should probably go home too."
"Yeah." You began to fold your blanket, your back turned away from him.
Though he was close to just leaving he scrunched up his face worked up his courage, blurting out, "We need to talk about earlier."
"No we don't." You began to walk away to put the blanket back, but he took the blanket from you and set it down on the couch. "Hey!"
"Listen. It's not what you think. I've just been confused—"
"Peter, please. It's okay to feel differently towards someone. It's okay to not like someone anymore. I understand if you don't want to be friends anymore, just don't coddle me if you're going to leave." You voice cracked and you wanted to crumble.
"Y/n..." He stepped closer to you. "Why are you crying?" He said, almost in a whisper.
Your eyes were cloudy with tears. "Cause I'm not ready for you to leave me yet."
You then bursted into sobbing, and Peter hugged you tightly as you buried yourself in his chest. You two stood like that, with Peter holding onto you for dear life, until your tears stopped. "Y/n, I promise I'm not going to leave you. I never was."
You looked up at him with your puffy eyes. "No?"
"No. I was just wondering if I still like Liz."
"Oh." You said dumbly. "I feel really stupid now."
"No, your not stupid! Don't say that." He said cutely. "C'mon, let's go to your room." You then both sat down on the bed. You leaned on him, wrapping your arm around him as he brushed his fingers through your hair. "Honestly, I was kinda comparing you to Liz a lot."
You weakly laughed. "I bet I just embarrassed myself after crying for you, even though there was really no reason to."
Peter smiled. "I don't think Liz would ever like me enough to cry over me though."
"Mm. So do you still like her?" You felt it getting harder to keep your eyes open. Peter noticed and chuckled.
"This probably won't make any sense, but I think it would be easier if I still liked her."
"Nope. That doesn't make any sense, but I'll support no matter what. Don't worry."
"Hm. You always do."
You then fell asleep on Peter, and after a bit he called Aunt May to pick him up. When she got there, waiting for him outside, he covered you with a blanket first.
He stared at you, before mustering his strength to go over to you and kiss your cheek. You would never know, so it's okay right? No, that's not okay. Peter felt like an jerk. He shouldn't have done that. That's invading your trust. Damn.
Once he got home he texted Ned that he thinks he likes you, even though that's kind of crazy for him to realize. He then got a call from Ned, and answered. "Finally dude."

God so for the past three weeks I had this insatiable urge to rewatch the 1998 animated movie Quest For Camelot which was a movie I absolutely ADORED as a kid despite its reputation for being bad but I never found time to watch it until like an hour and a half ago so I just rewatched it for the first time in Actually A Decade and like yeah the animation is wonk as FUCK and the pacing is weird and some characters and comedic relief moments and songs can be.....a lot..... And like all the songs sound a little bit like bargain bin Phil Collins and the differences between the characters speaking voices and their singing voices is often Very Jarring but honestly.....it's not the worst movie lol for most people it'd just be a mediocre but inoffensive lil animated movie for kids I think folks are really too harsh on it lol
NOW don't get it twisted I Adore It Still even ten years after I last saw it xbxjdn I'm just trying to explain it from the point of view of someone who has okay taste unlike me orz BUT god so I was watching it and I was thinking about how much I loved it as a kid and how much I was enjoying it now at 21 years of age and I realized that it's because the main character and her love interest (the highlights of the movie) are written so much like mid 2000s shoujo manga and every thing made sense........the lovable and spunky but absolutely brainless main character (shes so stupid I love her...).......the handsome edgy loner dude who has Feelings...... The way their relationship develops.....classic shoujo manga....every time they were on screen I could Feel The Shoujo Bubbles........
Also okay goofin aside the handling of Garret as a disabled main character was not half bad (take my opinion with many grains of salts tho cause I'm not blind) like his blindness doesn't get magicked away or anything and it didn't treat his disability as the problem, the actual problem was the townfolks ableism which I thought like......bro that's a good message for a kids movie y'know? Itd be nice if more movies were like "hey kids don't be weird and shitty to disabled people" y'know......of course the movie probably wasn't perfect about it I mean it is an animated movie from the 90s where I'm pretty sure most of the budget went to getting big name actors and musicians and Nothing Else but it wasn't half bad......it was sorta good.......
Shame everyone looks super fucked up every three frames bdhfebbdbfb
Edit: also I KNOW the rescuing damsels line was no-homo'd like immediately after but I choose to believe Kayley is bi because I want to and I am bi and I like Kayley and I'm sexy and cool and no one can stop me
#feeling talky#like it wasnt perfect....it had many many flaws....but i dunno it was just nice#nice to see a disabled character where the framing wasnt based on 'usefulness'#like garrets skilled at wilderness survival but the framing wasnt like#'wow ur so good despite ur disability'#and it wasn't 'ur good because ur disability is useful' either which is nice i think#again i cant speak for blind people or any physical disabilities#but i do always think its a lil shitty when the message of a story about disability is all about like the 'usefulness' of it#ive got like....symptoms disorder.....been diagnosed with like all the adhd symptons but like#okay im about to say something real weird#growing up i lied to psychologists but only about one symptom???? i didnt lie about anything else but i did lie about my ability to focus#i cant control my focus for shit but some combination of adults constantly berating my entire gender or age group because of my own failing#(like yknow when folks are like kids these days have no attention span when u cant pay attention and ur like no its not kids these days)#(its just a me problem)#as well as like teachers in spec ed areas always talking about kids who were spec ed like us but at least cause they had specific talents#when ur a 14 year old who doesnt think she has any useful traits those kinds of sentiments dont feel good yknow....#anyway i would lie about my ability to focus as if i could control my hyper focus modes#cause i had to figure out something that could maybe be useful? does that make sense? am i making sense? gomenasai#so yeah now ive got all this documentation that i have like all the symptoms of adhd except some confusing stuff about focus djzjdhfhjems#now im an adult and i dont feel the need to lie tho!!! it wasnt until a few years back when to my psychiatrist i was like#bro i cant focus but i can focus so much but j cant control it and it sucks whats the deal with that is it insomnia#and he was like 'bruh i think u had adhd'#wasnt really in a place to pursue that line of questioning at the time but someday....ill be able to talk with a professional..........#anyway yeah i dunno qwq i got symptoms disorder and i dont like stories that are like 'disabilities are only okay if theyre useful to us' !#am i making sense!!! im incomprehensible!!!! quest for camelot is an okay movie and i love it a lot!!!!!!!!

Waging War Again || Himiku || Trial 4-4 || RE: Verm, Toshiko, briefly Hibiki
Tumblr media
"Bullshitting? Actually, this is the least bullshit I've spouted in any of these motherfuckers. Been too tired for that. Believe it or not, everything I've offered is legit theories so."
And too sad, but she wasn't about to openly admit to that. At least the exhaustion was obvious enough, and easily explainable through lack of sleep rather than any emotional turmoil, right? Even if it was a little bit of both, in reality.
Tumblr media
"See, if I were bullshitting, it'd go like this: Aaaa! I bet the reason there's no evidence of conflict on the Mycea side of the cliff is because after Jaws was stabbed, she was SWOOCED up by a pterodactyl with a SCREECH! And the prehistoric bird must have flown all the way to the other side before dumping her on the ground with a THUD! Obviously, the pterodactyl is the killer and not any of us, so let's case closed this shindigdug and get some sleep, thanks."
Ah, there we go, this was some of her patented Himiku Bullshit(tm). The fact that she'd avoided it up until now was honestly impressive, perhaps.
"Or maybe Haruna-chan tossed Jaws up in the air and served her over with a racket like a fucking tennis ball. Whoosh!"
Except. She was still going.
Tumblr media
"Or maybe Jaws just up and tripped off herself, wouldn't that be convenient? Too bad that electric avenue's closed since you said that's not what happened."
Was she done yet?
Tumblr media
"... Kay. So. As for the question a certain someone asked. I tried to check Veronica's shoes, too, but I couldn't get 'em off. Even then, the height difference between Worm and Veronica's massive. Veronica's shoe size has got to be bigger, right? ..."
Tumblr media
"Anyway, yeah, the cliff up next to Jaws was clean and smooth without any blood. I checked up there like first fucking thing. That aside... I can't see her wanting to meet up with Veronica, still. ... On the other hand, I still think Veronica would be the aggressor here. Worm has no motive to attack first since her stinky laundry's already on the line, and Jaws had plans afterwards. Veronica attacking first? That I believe. But I think Jaws was meeting up with you, Worm. And the fact that Veronica died first means your story doesn't line up, either. Kind of a sloppy lie, huh? But y'know. Killing her left a witness, didn't it?"
She shoved her hands in her pockets, thumbing through her candy collection in search of any pieces of gum. Unfortunately, no dice. She sighed softly, and pulled out a matcha candy to pop into her mouth instead. Harder to talk with hard candy than it is with gum, but. Y'know. She thought for a moment, deciding what else she needed to comment on.
"... Actually, rock magic would track, wouldn't it? She could just shoop that right back into the cliff when done and it wouldn't even look out of place, would it? Nice thought, Remy-chan."

Starless Horizon RP File #27
(Vela’s part in italics.)
After a beautifully calm evening, Dritz slept better than he had in a while, nearly oversleeping until Vela gently nudged him awake and the two of them started to get ready for the counsel.
Though he knew he wouldn't really be needed, Dritz chose the most appropriate thing he owned that would still be smart, a high-collared floral suit with uncharacteristically muted colours, and boots that he even made sure to polish carefully.
"It's not really much of a formal affair, the meeting, but it shows respect for the overseers. As open as they are for visitors, and as much as they strive for equality between the public and overseers, counsel meetings are very, very rarely accessible to the public. So since we're in a pretty privileged position, I figured... Dress to impress," he explained with a goofy smile.
Vela watched Dritz as he dressed, almost feeling too nervous to do the same. Eventually she had to choose her own outfit, deciding on clothes that best represented her people: one of her slightly oversized dark tunics and warm leggings. Too warm for Chrysala, considering, but she felt perfectly able to endure being too warm over being too cold.
[You look nice,] she told Dritz, standing near him and smoothing one hand along the front of his jacket for a moment. [So you won't know what's going to happen, if the public doesn't see much of the counsels? Or do you know anything else about them?] She could imagine that all the overseers likely had a chance to speak in turn, but beyond that she struggled to think of what a counsel might actually be like.
Dritz couldn't help leaning into Vela's touch just slightly, enjoying the attraction in her gaze. While his looks had never been a big problem for him, to know there was one with whom his attraction was mutual was still a novel feeling.
"So do you, flower. I know I say you look nice in everything, but... This stuff, your tunics and cloaks... I kinda fell for you first while you still wore this and only this. So it's got a special place in my heart, y'know?"
He brushed a stray strand of hair out of his face before continuing, "Yeah, it's normally done more casually, but because we brought it to be called, I think it has the potential to be a shorter affair. Usually it'd be discussing the districts and what the issues are in them, then all coming together to work out solutions to any problems. So say... There's drug deals going on in the lower districts. Szna might spare a policing force to help the other district, or she might offer stricter crossing through her own district to avoid continuing the route," he explained. "This should be very quick. We present our cause, Szna does much of the talking, but with our backup I think we'll have support for the Aurians."
The fact that Dritz enjoyed her Aurian clothing so much was a little surprising to Vela, but it made sense when he explained the reason behind it. She smiled and nodded, thanking him with a small kiss before fetching a comb to continue helping him with his hair.
[I hadn't thought of that. Of course it would be shorter and more simplified as a special counsel. We are the ones who brought it about. I appreciate her for doing this, but hope it wasn't too much trouble for her... then again, I think she really wanted to do it.] One of the main reasons she had hope of this working was because of Szna's dedication to their cause, which made her incredibly happy to think about.
After attempting to tame her own hair and largely failing (it still sprung in wisps however it wanted), they left their room and began making their way to where the counsel would be held, Vela keeping her determination at the front of her mind to ease her own worry.
Dritz lead Vela through the city to where Szna had asked them to meet her. She had sent a message directing them to a more upmarket portion of the district, featuring newer buildings built with more aesthetically pleasing frontage, shinier metals and softer lines, drawing influence from wide and far. As Dritz explained to Vela, this was due to the changing influence of the galaxy on Chrysala's creativity, the fashion seeping into their culture, making looks a more considered aspect of things.
Waiting nearby was Szna, dressed in the same understated overalls, but this time with a large medallion about her shoulders. The bronze chain was thick and interwoven with green fabric, holding a bronze disc with a map of the district hammered into it; the closest things Chrysala had to marks of authority, only worn for official meetings.
"Good morning, friends," she said as they approached. She took each of their hands in turn, clasping them and saying their names; she had remembered. "I spent a good time preparing for every eventuality today, but I still may need to call on the two of you. Is that alright?"
As they walked, Vela kept her attention on the sights around her, which further helped calm her nerves. She especially marveled at the buildings, unable to imagine living or working in them despite the fact the ancient Aurians surely would have had such lovely architecture as well. With a smile, she told Dritz that it was wonderful they had adopted designs from other cultures and could see the beauty within them well enough to do so.
She was captivated by Szna's necklace first, thinking she had never seen anything like it either, and subconsciously touching where her gift from Dritz lay hidden under her tunic. [Good morning,] she signed before taking the overseer's hand, pleased that her name had been remembered. [Thank you. Yes, I am ready to say anything I need to in order to help, and I know Dritz will translate for me. You are doing so much for us.] With these words, Vela's determination seemed to be set, and her resolution fixed on what was about to happen.
Once Dritz had translated for her, Szna smiled at Vela, holding out an arm to lead them.
"I am doing my duty. Chrysala is my home, but it has its place in the galaxy, and it has a duty to help where possible. I would expect assistance from other planets if my people were in dire need, and we can do no less." With a somewhat sad tone, she added, "I believe we as a people are still too closed off from other worlds; we will accept their culture but not them? It saddens me."
Vela had to pause and study Szna a moment with new interest. From the way she spoke, it seemed there might be a personal reason behind her assistance rather than simply wanting to help them. That wasn't a bad thing at all, but it did interest her enough that she thought she might ask later, after the counsel meeting.
With a nod of agreement, she allowed the Chrysalan overseer to lead the way into the building as she walked alongside Dritz.
Dritz had been agreeing enthusiastically, evidently too eager to voice his approval to notice the hint in Szna's statement, or the sad determination in her eyes.
As she led them, Szna explained the two counsel members that would be their main opposition in anything they said. Tvek was the incredibly stern overseer of the industrial estate, which housed the oldest established metalworks and very few residential areas. She was traditional, old fashioned; one who believed that things were done a certain way for a reason and nothing needed to change. Vri was younger and more naïve, she did not see the importance of trade relations, nor had she adapted her thinking to include offworlders. For one so young, she was remarkably xenophobic.
Eventually they came to a taller building, just as nondescript as Szna's office. The three of them were greeted by a small, slight Chrysalan man, clearly just getting his start in the business of their govern, as he seemed almost in awe of Szna as he escorted them.
The counsel were already assembled and ready when they arrived, five other Chrysalan women of varying skintones and hair colours, each with a large medallion of their own colour and metal; all practical and neutral coloured fabric attachments.
Vela listened closely to everything Szna told them, and paid extra attention when discussing the more difficult overseers. It was disheartening to think that some remained this way despite any advancements they had made otherwise; however, Vela knew that she herself might not be considered a typical Aurian when compared to any of the rest. They would not listen to her while she was there, but perhaps with all of this additional support and a reasonable alternative for a home already prepared, they would be more willing.
When they entered the next building and the room where the counsel would be held, Vela felt some of her nervous thoughts returning. It felt as though each Chrysalan was staring right at her, but that would be understandable in such a situation if it was true. She went where she was directed by Szna, Dritz still at her side, and tried to focus on the appearance of each woman, and how each of their medallions was different and lovely, while she waited for the meeting to proceed.
Szna greeted the others graciously, warmly even.
"Zask, my dear," she said brightly, embracing a willowy Chrysalan with very dark, very short blue hair and soft features. The two engaged in small talk about Zask's recent improvements to her district, and the plans for another tram line.
While Szna made her way around the group, greeting them with hugs and chatter, Dritz kept close to Vela, stroking her back gently.
Eventually, Szna moved to a high round table and gestured for all, including Vela and Dritz, to join her. Everyone remained standing, as the table had been built for the meetings to be conducted as such.
"I am sure we are eager to discover why it was I called you here," she announced. Gesturing to Vela and Dritz, she introduced them. "Ladies, we are idle as a people, and we ignore the needs of our galactic neighbours at every turn. We do our jobs well for our people, and I think the time has come for us to direct our attentions further. Vela comes to us from Aurctas, and wishes our assistance in the survival and preservation of her species. It's my opinion that we can give it to her.'
"And why, do tell, should the resources needed for Chrysala be transferred to this... Aurctas for use? I have not even heard of such a world, why should my district suffer for them?" From Szna's description, the Chrysalan speaking, weathered with greying lilac hair in a high bun atop her head, was Tvek.
With Dritz's gentle hand moving slowly up and down her back, Vela relaxed slightly against his touch as she listened to the overseers speaking among themselves. When the subject quickly turned to the Aurians, however, she stood up straighter and focused her attention first on Szna, then on the woman who must be Tvek. The questions asked made her instantly begin to sign, whether or not this was a good idea.
[I mean no disrespect in anything I say. I am Vela. I'm honored to be here among the Chrysalans and offered an audience with such an important counsel. I should clarify that Aurctas is likely unknown to you because my people are being exploited as cheap labor, and the existence of the Aurians is kept a secret by these dishonest traders. Aurctas is a harsh world where nothing can grow, and my people are dwindling.]
She directed her gaze straight at Tvek as she continued signing, stopping every other sentence for Dritz to translate. [Your district will not suffer for us, I think. All I ask are for ships to transport the Aurians to a new home world. Anything else would be asking too much, but I would accept more help as you might see fit. I can explain anything you like in more detail.] Here she felt the need to stop and see the reaction from the counsel, glancing toward Szna with a slightly troubled expression.
"This representative does not even speak our language," Tvek said sharply. Thankfully, it seemed that the other counsel members did not like this statement, and one stepped forward, holding out a finger.
"And you expect every representative to speak Basic or Chrysalan? Perhaps you might wish to speak to the scientists about a time machine, Tvek, if you prefer our ancient segregation so much," she scoffed, smoothing her long hair back over one shoulder. She turned to Vela with a gracious nod, "You are welcome here, child, do not listen to those who would see us remain in our dark corner of space without the joys of new worlds."
Dritz translated the remaining information as Vela expressed it, speaking with his head held high, his voice clear and confident, his hands clasped behind his back. "I am Dritz, of the Criznr Quarter if you would prefer introductions, and Vela's translator. If my opinion counts for anything, ma'am, the Aurians need help that Chrysala, as a prosperous planet, is in a position to give. This is a chance for a joining of communities." He seemed to realise he was speaking somewhat out of turn, and stepped back. It was not usually heard of for males to even be in the counsel's room, he needed to remember how privileged he was.
"What he says is correct; we can help. Chrysala continues to thrive and grow, but who are we if we turn our backs on the Aurians, who have asked our help. But I need a majority vote."
Over the next hour or so, Szna laid out a plan for their distribution of assistance, funds, and the time scale of the help the Aurians would need, with the overseers discussing, sometimes heatedly.
[With all respect,] Vela signed, [I do speak Basic. Or I would if I could do so aloud. The rest of my people also understand it, though perhaps less words than I do. I have been training my voice to grow accustomed to speaking but it's a slow process. I think that someday the Aurians may be able to become vocal as well.]
She only added a little more for Dritz to translate: that she was grateful for any assistance given, that the other Aurians would be too, and that any details would be left up to the counsel entirely. After this, there was a long period of debate as Vela tried to stand still and avoid wringing her hands just slightly in worry. Tvek had seemed so much against the idea at first, and some of the others were doubtful of it.  She glanced around the room more than once, though her gaze kept returning to the comforting sight of Dritz at her side. There was little she could do now unless further questions were asked of her, meaning all she could do was wait.
Tvek voiced her displeasure many times, backed up by Vri, but the other overseers seemed to be coming around to the idea the more Szna spoke. They would need to secure coordinates to Aurctas, send an ambassadorial party to discuss their plans and make diplomatic introductions, and prepare the Aurians for extraction.
Dritz stepped closer to Vela, returning his hand to the small of her back. "I know Tvek seems harsh, but I think she's outvoted here. Good job, flower," he whispered.
Once it seemed deliberations were over, a different overseer took the lead. She was older than even Tvek, silvery hair in a long, relaxed braid with a roughly hammered metal clasp holding it in place. She held up her hands, "My dears, I believe we have heard enough and will need to put in a vote."
Dritz gawked, seeming to realise something. "She's the grand overseer. I didn't even consider that she would be here," he muttered. "I've never seen her before..."
"You all know that I will make my final decision once you have voted, so please; complete Szna's plan for the assistance of Aurctas?" she asked, looking around the room. Szna, unable to vote on her own cause, watched with her mouth in a tight line as Tvek and Vri remained still, though the other overseers held up hands in agreement. "And you are opposed?" the grand overseer asked the other women, who confirmed.
Szna frowned and looked to the grand overseer with an anxious air to her.
"I've taken everything that has been said into account, and it's my opinion that the Aurians require the assistance of another world. We can be that world," the grand overseer said, a small smile reserved for Vela.
Through the oftentimes tense debate, Vela continued to glance around the table at each overseer, hoping they could at least try to understand how she felt and what it must be like to have a home which wasn't a home, even if they had never experienced similar. She was so focused on what was happening that she was almost startled when Dritz touched her again.
His whispered words brought a smile to her face. Of course she could not say anything, so she nodded slightly. Despite Tvek and Vri and their protests, everyone else seemed to think that helping the Aurians would be the right thing to do. When the one Dritz called the "grand overseer" began to speak, Vela almost felt as though she couldn't bear waiting for the answer any longer. She didn't know the significance of this Chrysalan, but the ultimate decision seemed to lay with her.
It wasn't a surprise when the two who opposed the vote made this clear. But it was heartening to see the others agree, and for the grand overseer to say that Chrysala would assist the Aurians... Vela almost wished she could sit down from the sudden weakness of her relief.
[Thank you. It isn't enough to show my gratitude, but that's all I can say for now. I deeply appreciate what you will do for my people, and they will too.] She had signed while looking at most of the overseers, but looked to Tvek and Vri next. [You will not find reason to regret this was done, I assure you. The Aurians will be prosperous again one day and I feel you will find them a worthy ally.] Finally she turned her gaze to Szna. [And thank you for agreeing to bring this to your counsel. I think we will never forget you for that.] She wanted to add a thank you to Dritz, but only directed her smile back at him again, knowing she could do that better later.
Szna beamed at the news of the voting, and there was a rapid series of events for Vela, with the overseers who voted in favour wishing to speak to her, congratulate her, and Szna hoping to speak to her about other matters, while Tvek seemed to be contemplating the results of the vote.
After a moment, Dritz stepped in and put an arm around Vela, seeing the situation could become overwhelming for her very quickly.
"Overseers, thank you for your time. Perhaps we could speak another time, as our Aurian ambassador is needed elsewhere," he said graciously. He turned to Szna, "Thank you, ma'am,  we will be in touch to further discuss our actions in relation to Aurctas."
Soon, he had led her out of the building and to somewhere quiet and peaceful.
"How are you feeling, flower?" he asked softly, pulling her into his arms and kissing her forehead, "I'm so, so, so proud of you. Wow. I can't even believe how well that went!"
With nearly everyone trying to talk at once, most of them directly to her, Vela had started to feel a little overwhelmed. Fortunately Dritz was there to handle the situation, speaking to everyone easily and guiding her away from the noise to somewhere more quiet. As much as she wanted to continue to converse with the overseers, she also needed some time to process what was a very emotional situation for her.
She felt herself leaning most of her weight on Dritz when he held her, just allowing his warmth to seep through to her own body in the way that was so comforting. [I feel alright,] she answered once she had collected herself somewhat again. [But I feel... overwhelmed. I wanted them to agree to help, but there was a part of me that doubted they would. And now I admit that I'm not sure what to do.] She smiled weakly before moving forward to rest her face near Dritz's shoulder, breathing in his scent and feeling herself gradually relax further.
After a few moments of the two of them standing quietly, Dritz stroking Vela's hair and chatting in that idle, unimportant way about what he could see while she was squished against him, Szna rounded the corner, in the process of untying her hair from the bun she held it in, letting it fall before shaking it out and sighing.
"Hello, dears," she said weakly, "How are we doing? I just wanted to come out and speak to you about what we need to do next," she said. She touched Vela's shoulder gently, "I think you did very well. You spoke clearly about what the needs of your people were, and you have done them a service. I believe with the right guidance from you, we can take the majority of the work from you now. You've set this in motion, and I would like you to allow Chrysala and Aurctas to continue your work. Do you think that will be possible? Is there anything more we will need to consider before we set this in place?"
Vela began to turn as she heard the footsteps coming from behind them and around the corner. She was not sure what she had been expecting, but was relieved to see Szna again. She had wanted to thank the Chrysalan woman further for her help in making everything much more of a potential reality.
[I think we are well. Mostly relieved and somehow exhausted, speaking for myself,] she signed for Dritz to translate, though she smiled at Szna. [Thank you. I only did the best I could, and if it had not been for the two of you, I might not be where I am today. I really can't thank you enough.]
It took some contemplation before she realized what she needed to say. [I think it's possible. The only problem is that I have not convinced any of the rest of my people that it's in their best interest to leave. So I thought that with the promise of a world for them, and a means of getting there, they would see it could be done and agree. Trelos was not fully decided on whether we might join them, so we will need to wait and see if they send word. After that happens, maybe we could send a small group of Chrysalans along to Aurctas to help persuade them? I know Dritz would have to come along as interpreter, but would we need anyone else?] In all honesty, she was uncertain exactly how many or even who might most impress the other Aurians enough to make them see that their lives could be different, in a good way.
Szna listened thoughtfully, her eyes bright as her smile turned into an impressed smirk. "You truly have considered every avenue. It's my hope that your people will see the effort you have put into their future. As for Chrysalans going with you to Auctas, I believe that is up to you. I am happy to accompany you as another ambassador for my people, and we could perhaps bring the grand overseer; I believe she may also be a good representative for the whole."
"Once we've heard from Trelos, we could set off from Hesperus Alpha together, depending on how many of us there are in the... I guess it's like a first contact mission, almost? But not?" Dritz rambled.
Szna bit back a grin and glanced at Vela, teasingly saying, "And this is your translator. Are you certain he's doing it correctly?"
Vela nodded, promising to give the situation more thought later and decide who she would like to accompany them to Aurctas.
[That's a good idea. Another small ship may be needed to get us there since the Nova can't carry too many comfortably.] She could sense that Szna was teasing about Dritz even without seeing the Chrysalan woman's expression. [He is. And he... usually gets it right.] Now she was teasing too, she realized, as she turned a small but playful smile toward her lover. [I think I would trust no one else to interpret for me now, truthfully.]
[But I have a question from earlier, if you don't mind my asking,] she continued to Szna after a time. [It seems to me as though you have a deeper reasoning for wanting to help me and my people? I know you are a good person, but something about the way you spoke... I might have imagined it. You don't have to answer.] Vela felt her phrasing had been awkward as she listened to Dritz translate, and she hoped Szna wouldn't be offended somehow.
Szna chuckled, glancing down at the ground with a smile when Dritz protested, insisting it was not often he got his translations wrong now, at least.
The overseer took Vela's question and considered it very carefully, nodding.
"Well. If I am being honest, I am in a relationship with a human woman myself. We are each others' primary partners; she is seeing another human, and I have two other Chrysalan lovers, but... she is special. I have to confess to your story being significant to me personally. The thought of my partner being in the same position as your people..." she said quietly. "This is more personal information than I should share as an overseer, but I want more Chrysalans to be open to alien relations in every sense, and I suppose I have personal stake in that... I hope you don't see it as selfish."
Rather than being surprised, Vela only had a sense that her suspicions were right all along. [I think that's wonderful,] she signed, her gestures slower to indicate a quieter and more reflective tone. [It's not selfish at all, because your personal stake will allow you to help many others who wish to be free with the partners of their choosing. And we will all be grateful for that.]
With a few more details worked out, Dritz and Vela were soon on the way back to their lodging, the Aurian slipping her pale fingers loosely through the Chrysalan's beautifully colored ones for a little while as they walked. [Did that surprise you?] she asked eventually, releasing his hand. [Your overseer is a wonderful person in addition to leader. And I'm glad you were willing to choose me as a partner when I am so different. I guess in a way, I'm surprised and proud I was able to choose you, too.]
The sensation of Vela's slender fingers slipping between his own brought Dritz out of a reverie he hadn't realised he was even in. Overseers were just citizens the same as any other Chrysalan, but they were mostly very private people, and for his own to have told them such a personal thing... And for it to be so close to their own situation, it was a strange thing to come to light.
"I am a bit surprised, yeah. See, I guess it's one of those cultural things. I know the overseers are no different, but it's so hard to separate them from their work. I couldn't even imagine Szna having partners. Not through her being unattractive, or anything of the sort, of course. It's weird though, learning that made me feel like it's getting better. It's not so ‘weird’ as people think, maybe we can begin to open minds in that way."
He squeezed her hand, "I... For a while I didn't think you would want me. Not because of anything you do, just... I had already assumed it wouldn't be something you would want. I wouldn't be something you would want. I'm glad I was wrong, I made the best choice." He grinned, throwing an arm around her and holding his head high as they walked.
It sobered Vela just a little to hear Dritz had thought she might not want him. She chose to add nothing further for the time being, instead letting him hold her close while they continued to walk. There were a few curious stares from passersby, but nothing truly hostile or rude. He might very well be right that it was getting better.
When they arrived back at their room, Vela wasted little time after the door had closed behind them. [Thank you again for what we've accomplished today. It's been truly incredible. And, I... I should tell you that it took me a little while to realize I was attracted to you, but when I did... of course I wanted you.] She brushed at some imaginary dust on the front of his jacket, temporarily distracted as her hand slid over his midsection. [I guess this might be sudden, but I want you now, too. I usually do.]
Vela glanced up at Dritz quickly, almost shy with this sort of admission, but was soon working at the buttons on the jacket. [I don't want you to get your pretty clothes wrinkled, I mean,] she explained in between, though the intent in her eye made it obvious that this was not her main concern.
Their walk gave Dritz time to contemplate. Had he ever shown that side of himself to her? He knew he must have done, they were so intimate emotionally, but something about the admission that he had developed an attachment to her so quickly had made him feel especially open to her. Not vulnerable; if anything Vela made him feel stronger.
When they returned, he felt strangely emotional, in a good way, in a passionate way, closer to Vela even though he thought that impossible. Her hands on his front and the sparkle in her eyes told him all he needed before she even began signing.
He shrugged off his jacket and shirt (that Vela had so kindly loosened) letting them both hit the floor as he cupped her jaw with a feather light touch and kissed her deeply.
"To be honest, flower, wrinkles in my clothes are the very last thing on my mind right now," he whispered against her lips.
Vela smiled against Dritz's lips in turn as he spoke, then leaned back to regard him playfully. [If that's the last thing on your mind, what's the first? Maybe there are a few things.]
While awaiting the answer to this, she took the opportunity to remove her tunic and let it drop to the floor as well, moving back to Dritz to press her body against his and kiss him hungrily. The mere feeling of his skin on hers was enough to send a pleasurable shiver running along her spine. She nudged him closer to the bed, eventually getting him to lay down and kneeling next to him in order to pay special attention to his neck, kissing and using her tongue along with the softest nibbles, which he quite evidently enjoyed very much.
His breath growing short, Dritz muttered, "I think you can guess-"
He stopped talking to let his gaze drag over her body. Everything about her was incredible to him, and it was all he could do to contain himself and allow her to lead him. As they moved, he nudged his shoes off and started on his trousers, staggering in his haste and fumbling with the fastening, more focused on Vela than the task at hand. He couldn't help a loud, appreciative sigh at the sensation of her teeth against his skin, just firm enough to allow for a contrast to her soft lips.
Dritz relished the attention for a moment before lacing their fingers together and tugging her into him, easily rolling them into an upright position and perching her on the bed's headboard, his own lips paying special attention to her chest and stomach, before moving to her hips and thighs.
At some point along the way, Vela realized they both had removed the rest of their clothes without even thinking about it, focused as they were on each other's bodies. It was amusing, but not something she was about to dwell on for too long in the current circumstances.
As always, it was surprising yet delightful when Dritz grabbed her and easily moved her to another position entirely. She began playing with his hair as he kissed her thighs, fingers moving just lightly around the base of his antennae. Eventually she slipped them gently down around his jaw and pulled him up to look at her, noting the desire in his gaze which no doubt matched the same in her own.
[What if I couldn't guess?] she signed, in some strange need of continuing their previous conversation. [Show me what you're thinking about the most.] She watched him, not really caring if there was an answer or not, but finding the situation somehow more arousing than even before.
There was something about Vela being more vocal that set extra fires in Dritz. He smirked up at her, trailing his fingers over her thighs, lighter, then harder, then feather light.
"Why don't I tell you?" he purred, leaning up to kiss her temple, "At the moment-" he kissed her jaw, "I am thinking about the expressions you have we we're together. When I touch you, and I find the exact spot you want to feel. The way you wiggle your fingers in my hair when..."
He trailed off, kissing his way back down her body, moving between her soft thighs.
Feeling slightly feverish at his words alone, Vela watched Dritz work his way down her body and stop in between her thighs. She drew in a sharp breath, even knowing what to expect beforehand. It wasn't entirely accurate to say she was shocked by how good it felt, but the sensation was always so much better than she might have anticipated.
Dritz had been right, however; her expression had changed to one of utter bliss, and she was moving her fingers erratically through his hair as it was nearly impossible to keep still when feeling this way. Before too long, she had to gently push him away and lay down on the bed, resting on her side as she faced him. She had needed to feel his body against hers, seeking the extra pressure as she moved one leg over his, breath quickening again.
