when thinking about scar and mei's dynamic, I love thinking about why he becomes so attached to her. it's not just a parental instinct, it's specifically identifying with her struggles. the chang clan is small and has little political power compared to the more dominant clans in xing, and it's a struggle just to survive. even though it's not exactly the same, there's this feeling of solidarity between scar and mei because they're both disenfranchised within their respective countries. the sympathy mei describes when she found xiao-mei is what scar feels towards mei, seeing something of themselves in the other and taking pity on them

and there's this other element to him helping her find xiao-mei, and I might be misremembering, but I'm fairly certain it's the first deviation from his revenge based quest. so far, every time we've seen him, he's either been attacking state alchemists, going somewhere to find a state alchemist, or recovering from his injuries. he is very driven when it comes to his goals, but he sees this little girl crying because she is all alone in a foreign country on a desperate quest to save her people and she's just lost the only family she has with her, and he decides to help her. he didn't have to do that, he could have just ignored her or insisted on moving on, but he is not heartless or cruel, he is a compassionate person underneath all the pain, so he goes out of his way to help this little girl find her panda

no wonder mei is constantly reiterating to other people that scar is a good person

I wish I could properly put into words how Kita seems to have her own type of social anxiety.

It’s more a flavor of wanting be useful to those around her, trying to mirror people in a way that makes them feel better about themselves (ie how when Bocchi failed at talking to Kita the first time, Kita attempted to beatbox back so Bocchi didn’t feel embarrassed).

It’s a fear of being abandoned if she doesn’t present the right front I think. Her Kit-Aura helps draw people in but would they stay if she didn’t put it up, if she didn’t learn guitar well enough?

Even in Kita’s head, she’s the supporting player, not the main character.

It’s how she runs away instead of talking out her issues the first time she joins Nijika’s band, and how even she admits her reasons for joining the first time were incredibly shallow and that she doesn’t deserve the second chance.

The way she hates her name, is completely embarrassed by it.

I can’t properly put this all into words, can’t properly dissect it how I want to but I think about this a lot when I watch Bocchi.

Yes, hello. You shall recall that the weekend before last I was trapped staying with my parents for six nights. And now, from tomorrow, them and two cousins are coming up to stay with me in my little old house. And even once they fuck off I have about two nights to myself before three weeks on the road ffs (and jesus christ I just realized I've booked the back end of that into an airbnb to share with two lovely but still present work colleagues, wtf was I thinking).

So yes, I am feral because I am meant to live alone and be able to do what the fuck I like when I like and this does not suit me well at all.
