also cloud recesses burning as a pre-cursor to sunshot, yeah, but i’m also thinking abt the whole underlying thing of “if you’re not with us, you’re against us” and how that is mainly applied to wei wuxian but how. first. when lan wangji and wei wuxian fight right after the burial mounds and we get the first “come to gusu with me,” suddenly it’s “why are The Lans enforcing their archaic ways” and “why make yourself an opponent now when we still have the wens to worry about”

in gojo ( 五条 ) , gojo translates to "five conditions", which may be a reference to the five moral precepts in buddhism which are a set of conditions that form a moral code.

in satoru ( 悟), 'means to perceive, to understand, to become enlightened.

his name ties into buddhist themes from his awakening in the toji fight to his ability the six eyes. his strength as the character who holds the title: the strongest sorcerer.

𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗔𝗦 : gojo, only one person has called him by his first name. though he'd allow others if they were close. he also accepts gojo-sensei. to the world he is also known by his ability: six eyes user.

𝗘𝗧𝗛𝗡𝗜𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗬 : east asian ( japanese ).

𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗘 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗢𝗡𝗦 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗡𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗢𝗟𝗗 𝗔𝗡𝗬𝗢𝗡𝗘 :

一 oo1. gojo loves learning different languages ( he does have a habit of picking up language books on his free time). little did he know they would assist him during his international travels as a sorcerer. he currently knows: japanese ( native language ), english, french, spanish, and german. he does want to pick up learning mandarin and said book currently sits on his sparce bookshelf. oo2. gojo was fond of his attendant while he grew up as a child in the clan household. sayuri was her name and he often remembers her strict but calculated teachings. though she doted on him as if he were her own child. as a kid, he would hold onto her as they traversed around the main household especially during winter. he remembers fondly of being perched underneath her wagasa during sunny days as gojo continued his detached, but sheltered lifestyle. however, their days were numbered and once he grew into himself eventually her services were no longer needed. the last day they had spent together was the summer before he were to start elementary. she had told him to never get attached to anyone or anything, to be as flexible as water, part of her words have always rung in his head to this day. sayuri is still employed within the gojo household currently. when he heads over for clan meetings as an adult, he's sure to greet her every time. he does send her a birthday card every year. oo3. gojo ascended as the clan head at the very age of eighteen. it was a long, formal process and for once they had made sure he would not be burdened with a mission for a week. he remembers a lot of standing, talking from the elders, and the procession of two other clans: zeni'n and kamo clan. aside from that long and boring process, he does have a photo with everyone from that celebration. he's not overly sentimental about it but he had to keep it due to tradition. gojo is not above flashing his middle finger at the photo since the elders and the zeni'n clan are pictured. he thinks it's useful for that one thing only.

𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗦 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗟𝗜𝗞𝗘𝗦 𝗗𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗜𝗥 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘 :

一。 eating. if there is one thing gojo will do on his spare time, where ever he visits he has a tendency to stumble upon food or souvenirs that he can bring back. he will eat during a mission and after a mission since he has such a big appetite. gojo adores shopping and splurging on designer brands. it's one of his favorite past times. he does tend to frequent a few designer brands more regularly and they are prada, hermes, and dior. the employees know him by name whenever he visits and he always insists on sitting down and enjoying a bottle of sparkling water. lastly, gojo dosen't do it as much but he is fond of gaming. whether it be going into a random arcade or playing some random gacha game on his phone. he is very much fond of fighting games as well as claw games. he would frequent those more during his teenage years.

𝗦𝗜𝗫 𝗣𝗘𝗢𝗣𝗟𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗟𝗜𝗞𝗘𝗦 / 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗦 :

suguru. even to this day no matter how things had transpired his heart will always belong to suguru geto. shoko since they have history, his ride or die even though they don't talk as much. they had both drifted, but it's not uncommon for him to visit her morgue every now and then. megumi and tsumiki, his two kids that he raised. he'll always dote on megumi even if it frustrates him to no end. tsumiki is the one that allows his antics out of the fushiguro siblings so by default he adores her. gojo has always kept his promise to keep them both safe. yuta! that's his distant relative and the person he trusts and sees the most potential in to climb as high as him. the first student he ever saved from a special execution. lastly nanami, he sees him as someone who reminds him of strength itself. regardless of his grade, he knows nanami is very passionate about who he cares about, who he takes under his wing. it's that right type of care that he admires about the other.

𝗧𝗪𝗢 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗦 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗖��𝗘𝗥 𝗥𝗘𝗚𝗥𝗘𝗧𝗦 :

一。 his one biggest regret was not being able to be there for suguru more as he spirals. gojo while caught up with the missions he was given, did take the time to ask suguru if he was okay, but he didn't push the issue as much as he should have. gojo thinks if he had pushed a little bit more instead of letting suguru's thoughts fester it wouldn't have ended the way that things did. but he'll always be forever grateful of how suguru changed his life. it's not a regret persay, but he does wish he could have spent a little bit more time with megumi growing up. while, he did take megumi out on missions and he would come to pick him up from school when he could, he would have liked to be there for him a little more.

𝗧𝗪𝗢 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗕𝗜𝗔𝗦 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗛𝗔𝗦 :

一。 his loneliness. he thinks that his view at the top will still be him standing alone. he finds it hard to connect with others in the sense that no one truly understands him ( not since suguru ). though he is surrounded by his students, people who do admire him there's always that sense of detachment he has when he's with them. gojo does find it like a curse in a way, being the strongest means that everyone else is weak. no one else can understand his mindset when they haven't reached that peak yet. in a way, his loneliness shields him from the thing he doesn't want: losing someone again. not being able to be seen as a person, as human as the rest of them. it probably comes with the territory of being the strongest. but he knows how society views him, how his students view him. he is just a title, he is just his ability: the six eyes user, and he's destined for all the great things that he's been gifted with. but gojo doesn't feel seen as just satoru, as just a man standing on top of the world who does have feelings even if he pretends he doesn't.

Hi Panda, would you happen to know what the Chinese fandom consensus on Madam Lan's backstory is? The consensus in English fandom seems to be that she was a victim of the Lan sect & abused by Qinheng-jun, but before I saw that I thought her and Qinheng-jun and the Lan sect had a misunderstanding, like wangxian in the cave vs the Lan elders after Nightless City, that sort of thing? The difference is so huge I need like an extra 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 50th opinion haha

Hi there! Mmn yes, it’s an interesting question, that part of the story is left ambiguous and led to a lot of speculation. I don’t think there’s really a consensus whether on the Chinese side or the international side. However, I’m not sure we can qualify what happened with Madam Lan and Wei Wuxian a misunderstanding. In my opinion, it’s more a difference of morality. What they did was justified from their perspective while in the eyes of others they have committed a grave crime.

Let’s look at the facts or at least what we assume to be facts.

Qingheng-Jun was a well-known and well-respected young man with a promising future ahead of him but he threw that away when he suddenly decided to marry and live in seclusion at a young age (弱冠之龄 according to the novel, the age when one receives during a coming of age ceremony the crown-like ornament men wore in their hair. It was historically 20 years old but MXTX lowered it to 15 in her setting to have the characters using courtesy names. I’m assuming that Qingheng-Jun is still meant to be 20. Anyway, brief digression). On his way home from a night hunt, he supposedly fell in love at first sight with a woman. However, that woman did not return his affect and killed his master. It’s unclear if that happened after their meeting or before. To protect her from reprisal from his Sect, Qingheng-Jun brought her to the Cloud Recesses in secret and performed with her the three bows that bound them together in marriage. Then, as an act of penance, he went in seclusion and locked away his wife in a separate cottage. That union eventually led to the birth of two sons. (Ch.64)

Of course, the big question is why did she kill Qingheng-Jun’s master? I use master because the term used here is 恩师, an honorific for an esteemed teacher towards whom the student feels grateful for his tutelage. The answer to that question is given by Lan Xichen:

“我不知，但想来无非‘恩怨是非’四个字罢了。”

“I do no know but it is assumed that it came down to a ‘dispute over a past grievance’.

This is fascinating as it explains everything and nothing. 是非 is literally ‘right and wrong’, the two characters together can mean ‘quarrel’. 恩怨 is also made up of the juxtaposition of two characters with opposite meanings, ‘gratitude and grudges’ (the same character 恩 is used in the teacher honorific above). It’s a concept rooted in Chinese culture that features particularly prominently in wuxia/xianxia genres where the notions of justice and honour are core precepts. This term designates old scores that need settling, a debt that has to to be repaid sometimes tenfold. To put it simply, when someone does you or your family a favour, you have a debt of gratitude toward them. When someone wrongs you or your family, you develop a grudge towards them out of deep-seated enmity.

Wei Wuxian is the prime example of this, he went to great lengths to return the kindness he was shown by the Yunmeng Jiang Sect and by the Wen siblings. To him, it’s a moral imperative, he was duty-bound to do so just like he was duty-bound to take revenge against the Qishan Wen Sect.

It’s this same concept that motivates other characters in the story. For instance, Wen Zhuliu’s steadfast loyalty stems from a debt of gratitude (知遇之恩), Wen Ruohan recognised his worth and accepted him within the Wen Clan (hence why he changed his name to Wen) and he cannot leave that debt unpaid (Ch.62). Xue Yang repays the grudge he held against Chang Cian tenfold by exterminating the entire Yueyang Chang Sect (Ch.30).

Coming back to Madam Lan. I’ve seen some speculation from Chinese fans about the origin of that ‘grievance’ between her and Qingheng-Jun’s master. Because of the age gap between them, it is surmised that this is something that happened one generation back. Perhaps he brought harm or even killed Madam Lan’s elder, parent or teacher. It was a duty for Qingheng-Jun to bring her to justice and see about that her crime did not go unpunished. Depending on the gravity of the situation, he might have been well within his rights to kill her himself in retaliation. Instead of pursuing that cycle of revenge, he took another path that protected the woman he loved but also punished the one who had killed his master. Because he went against the Gusu Lan Sect by marrying her in secret, his penitence is to live in seclusion, separate from her and from the affairs of his Sect.

In the Chinese fandom, it is assumed that Madam Lan must have been a woman with impressive skills if she managed to kill a Gusu Lan Sect elder. Did she resist capture from Qingheng-Jun and was forcibly taken to the Cloud Recesses? Did she resign herself to her fate and accepted being confined as punishment? Did she comply and eventually grew fond of the man who became her husband? We don’t know but Lan Xichen remembers his mother as a gentle person who never voiced a complaint about her own situation.

The exact circumstances are shrouded with mystery but most meta and fics I’ve read in the Chinese fandom tend to be of the opinion that love eventually developed between Qingheng-Jun and Madam Lan. But of course, that’s the way we would rather have. What is sure is that this was a tragic ending for all parties involved, including the children left behind.

I’ve also learnt something very very interesting from the meta I’ve read concerning the gentians growing near Madam Lan’s cottage. We know that MXTX has paid special attention to flower meanings with the peony that Wei Wuxian threw to Lan Wangji in Yiling (Ch.71). The flower's alternative name is 将离花, flower of impending separation or flower for saying goodbye soon, a peony can be a parting gift between lovers or would-be lovers forced apart and can have the undertones of "Will you be with me before we part?", "Will you wait for me?" In the audio drama, it’s made clear that Wei Wuxian knew the intended meaning before offering Lan Wangji the flower. Well, due to their bitter roots, in the Chinese flower language, gentians stand for 爱上忧伤的你. Which is. Wheeze. “You’re beautiful in your melancholy.”

In the end, Qingheng-Jun and Madam Lan‘s story is used in the novel to act as a foil to Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji’s relationship. In the past, Lan Wangji also wished to bring Wei Wuxian to the Cloud Recesses and hide him away there. But he couldn’t bring himself to because Wei Wuxian was ‘not willing’ (Ch.72). Interestingly, this story is also framed to contrast with Lan Xichen and Jin Guangyao who are sworn brothers. Remember that it’s Lan Xichen himself that recounts his parents’ story to Wei Wuxian after they have found evidence of Jin Guangyao’s treachery. Just like his father before him, he is torn between personal feelings and his duty to his sect, two conflicting allegiances. When he is asking Wei Wuxian’s opinion of whether his father did was right, what would have been the right thing to do, he is also looking for an answer for himself. Lan Wangji had made his own choice at the aftermath of the Nightless City massacre. He protected Wei Wuxian and brought him back to Burial Mounds, he took responsibility for injuring his Sect’s elders by returning to the Cloud Recesses and accepting being flayed by the discipline whip. He managed to reconcile personal devotion and his family/Sect duties with his own principles and harbours no regret.

darker yllz gets lan wangji, protected lan zhan edition (notfic)

Inspired by an older idea I was rereading:

One of those verses where lan wangji is promised in some deal to a darker yllz. It’s also one of those verses where lwj is of some verse-contained category that in the verse culture is supposed to be kept sheltered and protected - he’s a submissive in that kind of d/s au, or an omega in that kind of omegaverse (or an alpha in that kind of omegaverse), etc.

So lwj isn’t there when he’s promised away. And, in this one, the Lans have no intentions of going through with their end of the deal. (Of course lying is forbidden and one must keep promises and act honorably, but things are different when dealing with someone like the Yiling Patriarch. He is outside the bounds of decency, and so decency does not apply to a negotiation with him. And just look at what he asked, that only shows how true this is. And they have no intention of letting their pure Second Young Master Lan anywhere near him). 

They also don’t tell lwj about any of this. Things like this are not his affair. (Xichen has mixed feelings about that. One the one hand, it seems not right to leave his brother so completely unknowing about something so relevant and importantly so to him. On the other hand, it’s his younger brother, of course he wants his little brother to be safe and happy, not getting distressed (and pointlessly distressed, of course they’re going to protect him) with such terrible world-complicated matters.) The Lans do impose some extra restriction on him, and some extra guards. They don’t tell him why. It is made obvious to him, when he notices and tries to ask, that it’s not his place to ask or be told.

So Lan Wangji is in his rooms, alone but for guards just outside, when the Yiling Patriarch comes to the Cloud Recesses to take what he was promised. 

He’s come prepared. He has talismans and arrays ready to take down wards. His own sort of forces (and perhaps a few tricks here and there) to handle the more human kind of resistance. (He isn’t actually planning to kill anyone, this time. The non-lethal version should suffice for a demonstration and to get him what he wants, and it’ll be better for his early days with his new... acquisition, and it’s a threat to hold for any next time or more serious transgression. (He’ll probably lose more of his corpses, this way, and need more, to keep everyone down, but he doesn’t care about that, and it’s not a problem for him.))

Lan Zhan doesn’t know what’s happening. It’s very apparent that something is happening. He heard more disciples coming, and conversation he couldn’t make out, and now there’s guards actually in the room with him. (Or maybe, depending on timing, he’s even very quickly escorted to yet another building, more hidden and secure?) The disciples still don’t answer his questions. Before too much longer, he can overhear screaming, shouts, sounds of fighting. He’s incredibly alarmed, incredibly worried, he wants to know what’s happening. The guard disciples tell him in no uncertain terms to stay where he is. They will enforce this, if they have to.

But the sounds of fighting only get closer. Until finally they’re obviously just outside the room, and he can hear the guard disciples as they engage - someone. And he can hear bodies hitting the floor. (The disciples are fine, are on the floor in the alive and held down sense, but he doesn’t know this, one way or another). Then suddenly it’s quiet. The door opens.

The Yiling Patriarch comes in alone. Saunters in, really, black robes and red in his hair and dark power dense and choking around him. He has his flute in his hand but not at his mouth right then. The guard disciples left in the room run at him; he swats them aside with barely a wave and resentful energy holds them down. He catches sight of Lan Wangji. He smiles. 

Lan Zhan isn’t sure if he should - try to get away somehow, at least try to retreat further into the room (that doesn’t seem like it’s going to help at all. And also - he can’t help but notice the way this man is looking at him - if this man is here for him he doesn’t want to be the cause or prolonging what’s happening), or try to charge at the man himself (that doesn’t seem likely to help either). He ends up just standing there. But - no, he can do better than that, he decides. Whatever is going to happen he can - at least control himself. For - however long he might have left. If that’s what’s happening.

He composes himself. Bows in greeting. He wasn’t expecting visitors, he says, and doesn’t have tea ready, but if his guest wants to sit down, he can begin to make it and have it ready shortly.

The Yiling Patriarch laughs. (Oh, he chose well, he thinks). Ah, he says, your sect did instruct you well, at least, when they decided to go back on their word and keep you from me. 

Lan Wangji is not someone who is generally very expressive in his face, and he is actively trying to be composed. But his reaction at that is enough for the Yiling Patriarch to notice it. What, he says, did they not consult you? Did you have a different strategy in mind? ...It becomes apparent, after a few such statements, that Lan Wangji has no idea what he’s talking about. Oh, the Yiling Patriarch says. Oh they didn’t tell you at all, did they. Oh, they shut you in this room and surrounded you with guards and put up their wards and drew swords at me, and they didn’t even tell you anything at all.

Lan Zhan wants to know what is going on. What this man who invaded his home, who - (drew their swords, he just says, and Lan Zhan tries not to think about disciples he knows, about his Uncle, his brother, drawing swords and being cut down). What he is so obviously not saying. And asking his disciple guards had never worked, but this man is someone else. And is not like he will lose anything, really, by asking. So he bows again, and continues his tea service. And asks.

And the Yiling Patriarch tells him. Tells him who he is. Tells him about the agreement his clan and his family made. Tells him what they promised. Tells him how they went back on this agreement.

Lan Zhan listens. At first he - doesn’t believe it, can’t believe it. Something like that would violate he isn’t even sure how many precepts of the Lan Sect. The Lan elders would never agree. His brother would never agree. 

The man does not sound like he is lying (but would Lan Wangji be able to tell, with a man like this one appears to be). And there is no reason for him to lie - if he wanted to come in here for no reason and take Lan Wangji captive, carry him away, it is very clear at this point that he could do just that. (It’s been minutes now, longer, and no one else has come. Lan Zhan tries not to think about why that might be.)

But the final piece comes from the disciple guards who'd been in the room. They’re still in the room, held down but not unconscious. And he can see them, when the Yiling Patriarch describes the sequence of events he claims brought them here. He can see the way they react. It is not the way someone would react to hearing an outrageous lie. (It is the way someone might react hearing a truth that they are, perhaps to some extent, uncomfortable with. Ashamed of.)

Lan Zhan swallows. Looks at his ‘guest’. ‘What did you do to them’, he asks. (Perhaps it’s an injudicious question. But he doesn’t think the man will kill him for something he says, not after all the effort to - obtain him. And he’ll bear whatever other punishment, to know.)

Oh, don’t worry, Yiling Laozu tells him, looking over at the disciples still on the floor. Anyone who was alive before he came should still be alive now. And he has no plans to change that. There’ll be some punishments in order, but they’ll survive them.

He doesn’t know if that’s true either. But the disciples here are alive, even after they directly attacked the Patriarch. And again, there’s no reason to lie to him, not really. And if it even might be true - he knows what he needs to do.

Lan Wangji goes to his knees in front of the Patriarch. Bows as low as he can, forehead to the ground. He apologizes deeply and intensely, he says, for what has happened. He wants to give indemnity for what his clan has done. He will go with the Yiling Patriarch, however the Patriarch demands. He begs that the Patriarch might have mercy on his family and sect. 

(He can hear some sounds and expressions of objection, fury, from the fallen disciples. He ignores it. The Yiling Patriarch has come to take him, and there is nothing he or any of them can do about it, and he is not going to gain anything by being dragged kicking and screaming, and all he can do is try to help his family in the last moments he has here, and this is what he can do. And it is not as though the Patriarch could not achieve the same aim by taking basically anyone here hostage for it. Let alone Lan Zhan’s own family. Who - if he told the truth - are still here. And who the Patriarch must be especially angry with.)

The Yiling Patriarch looks at him. Smiles, maybe a different smile. (Oh, he thinks, yes he has chosen very well.) Good, he says. He is glad to see that at least one Lan has honor. And perhaps sense as well. Get up, he says. And come with me.

Lan Wangji stands up. Straightens his robes, makes sure his headpiece is in its place. Tries to restrain himself from taking a final look around the room, or at least from lingering too much in it. And he goes where he’s told.

Walking through the Cloud Recesses is - very unpleasant. Not only because it is full of corpses, the traces of fighting, full of disciples, some with torn robes or injures, struggling against them and being forced down. But also because of how people look at him, as he walks, with the Patriarch, going where he instructs. But at least it shows that the Patriarch told the truth. All of the Lans and disciples he sees are alive, and he doesn’t see any bodies (not any that weren’t obviously already dead), or the large, awful bloodstains where bodies may have been, and none of the corpses look like anyone he knows, none of them wear Lan robes or ribbons.

He continues walking where he’s told.

It's far too late by now for any part of you to begin thinking about what could have been. I mean, just take a look around." He raised one hand to adjust his mask, while using the other to gesture to the scene around the two, one filled with flame and destruction. "If you had thought to bring police, tried to corner me with rifles, well you might have had some sort of success. I'm not stupid enough to resist against live bullets. But no. Your sickening Quirk has left you with such delusions that you thought you could stand to take me on alone."

The young woman's eyes filled with nothing but pure steel as she looked up at him. There was no fear to be found in the glare she delivered the man known as Overhaul, in spite of the terror bubbling in the pits of her stomach, constantly threatening to rise to the top. But she would not let it. Not in front of this Chisaki bastard, she wouldn't give him the satisfaction of knowing he had won.

"No words?" The man sighed, poking her lightly in the head as if to provoke a reaction. "Like a kid who doesn't get their way. Stubborn to the end. What a pain you are. The worst kinds of people are the ones who don't realize they're infected. They have no true redemption in their future. It's kind of weird when you think about it. What a shame… Not that it's any of my concern. I'm more interested in just why you and your ridiculous headgear have been following me around all day. Do you have an answer for that?" He grabbed her by the back of the hair, and pulled her face up to look at his. "I'd prefer an answer as soon as possible, so I can minimise the amount of contact made with your disgusting body."

There was only one way the woman knew she could respond to this and that way landed directly on the suspected Yakuza's forehead. "Why would I tell you anything, asshole? You won't get anything out of the Phoenix."

The man actually audibly growled, like a feral wolf, as he slammed her head into the asphalt. She felt her nose break as blood streamed from it onto the road. It was probably one of the lesser injuries she had incurred that day. Chisaki got to his feet and produced a spotless handkerchief from his pocket, wiping his face of the hero's saliva. "How childish." His voice was full of pure, deep contempt. "How filthy. Were you never taught manners? Are you mentally deficient? Hmph. Not that I should expect any more from a hero who calls themselves the Phoenix. How cliché." With that, he returned to his kneeling position over her limp body, she practically felt his shadow drop over her as the smell of burning embers filled her nose. Were those sirens she heard? They were faint, but what else could they be? Were they coming in her direction? One ear was completely busted up, so she couldn't tell. Looking up to the man who supposedly went by Overhaul, her peripheral vision severely limited by her complete and total lack of a right eye, she found her mind drifting away to the beginning of the day. When things had seemed oh so simple. When she still had all her limbs and when life had generally been more preferable when contrasted against her current predicament.

When had it all gone so wrong?

"So, all I have to do is follow the bugger?" Twenty-three year old Misa Kawajiri enquired into her phone as she took small, meticulous sips from her large Coke, sitting atop a rooftop in the very heart of the city, occasionally reaching into the bag next to her to dig out a fry or two and jam them into her mouth. This was the life, no doubt about it. The young woman, who went by the heroic moniker of the Phoenix, was elated whenever she was sent on surveillance patrols by her agency. Most other pro heroes would consider such work to be beneath them, it mostly consisted of hounding tax evaders, low-rent rank-and-file grunts and conmen, there was almost certainly never a tang of excitement to be found. This was the reason most heroes preferred more interesting work and it was the reason why Kawajiri adored such jobs. For her, it was a chance to slow down, chill out and enjoy life at a bit of a slower pace than usual. She definitely was not above having time to unwind and take things at a more reasonable pace. Of course, today's surveillance was already beginning to sound more interesting. It had started out with monitoring some basement-dwelling Otaku who shared anti-hero sentiments on internet forums, so not exactly a thrill ride there, as evidenced by the fact that Misa had left halfway through to get herself a McDonald's. But her new target, as assigned to her by her employers at the agency…

"His name's Kai Chisaki." Rang the cool, clerical voice of Phoenix's supervisor. "Mid to late twenties, germaphobe. He isn't often seen out and about, instead residing largely in the Shie Hassaikai's compound."

"Hassaiaki?" The hero of the sky's ears perked up at that. "He's Yakuza?"

"As far as we know, yes. We can't trace back any records of a family, except for Kazama Chisaki, his uncle, who was also associated with the organization before his death, although not as a full member."

"Interesting…" The girl pondered. "So, why are we following him, then? The Hassaikai have a good reputation, right?" Her words were slightly muffled as she jammed more fries in her mouth at that moment than was probably reasonable.

"That they do, Phoenix. They're underground. There have been search warrants on the premises before, but nothing suspicious was turned up. They're a Yakuza group in name only right now, nothing worth worrying about. But Chisaki? He's different. You're going to be following him for reasons unrelated to his activity within the clan."

"Oh?" Misa cupped her free ear with her hand so that she could better hear the man on the other end of the phone.

"In short, we have reasons to believe he's been peddling Trigger behind the backs of his bosses. Obviously, I don't need to tell you about that."

She nodded, although that was a tad redundant, considering the voice on the other end could not see her. The experimental drug known for its Quirk-bolstering properties was nothing to trifle with, and it had only grown more popular in recent time. "Why do you think he's doing so?"

"Money, probably. Who knows with these criminal types? The point remains that we have reason to believe he's out and about today. I've sent you an image of him on your phone. Follow him, see what he's up to. When a hermit like him comes out of the woodwork, it can never be good. Not for anybody." And with that, her superior hung up, leaving Misa to her own thoughts. In being left this way, she dug her knees up tucked under her chin and sulked for a bit, confident that nobody could see her act in such a childish manner, taking the odd glance at the image. He was a shockingly handsome young fellow, with sharp yellow eyes, ruffled brown hair and a suit, he looked the part of any well-meaning businessman. The only weird aspect was the steampunk-esque plague doctor mask clamped around his mouth. She shrugged it off as probably having something to do with his Quirk, whatever that was.

"This sucks." She groaned as she reached for her helmet, which mostly served as a fancy shell to hold the visor that shielded her eyes from the wind. "I don't wanna have to pursue Yakuza drug dealers, it's just no good. Give me a fat, tinfoil hat loser ranting about conspiracies any day. Surveillance is supposed to be a break from the hard stuff. But nooo, it just has to be more of it, doesn't it?" She sighed, the air whistling over her lips, as she tossed aside her empty bag. Stretching upwards, allowing her skintight suit to hug her body, she felt her wings extend from her body. It was always a glorious sensation to be felt, the pure rush of it all. She adored it beyond belief, the best part of the job. With a cheeky grin, the young hero spread her arms…

… And let herself fall from the building's roof.

Filthy. The very lot of them, surrounded by filth and dirt and all manner of unpleasantries. It was enough to break young Kai Chisaki out in hives, it truly was. Absolutely repulsive. How horrendous to have to walk amongst the common people, all of them no doubt inflicted with that despicable illness. As he made his way down the crowded high street, bumping into the occasional commuter, he felt the irresistible urge to lift up the sleeve of his green coat and scratch at the lumps on his arm. Urgh. The very lot of them, disgusting. He was rapidly remembering why he vastly preferred to remain indoors. And yet, he had to do this. He couldn't entrust mere goons with carrying out the mission, not even the Eight Precepts of Death. This had to be done by him and him alone. He felt the cold metal rub against his stomach from the inside pocket of his coat. What depraved things that guns were. Alas, they were a necessary evil, and still far better than Quirks. As he walked, he had no clue of the eyes following him as he did so. Misa Kawajiri worked fast and had found him in mere minutes. Was he aware of this, he would almost have applauded her.

Key word: Almost.

"He's carrying some sort of briefcase..." The girl noted to herself as she watched him. Luckily, his mask made him very distinctive for anyone who may be looking for him, so she had not had much trouble. "Is that relevant to whatever he's up to?" The questions were racing through her head in spite of her better judgement. She couldn't help but wonder about the good-looking, well-dressed young fellow with Yakuza ties. It was all so odd to her, and new. She didn't often run into anything so… exciting, was probably the word. And normally, Phoenix abhorred exciting. But something about it just seemed alluring. Maybe it was more the man than the danger, who really knew? Certainly not her.

…

DAMN.

Wrapped up in her own little thoughts, Kawajiri had lost Chisaki. He had seeped into the crowd. That wasn't good, not good at all. Not even wasting a second, Misa once again extended her wings and took off into the air, in search of the fellow she was shadowing. Stupid Misa, she cursed herself. How had she been so stupid? She really needed to focus more. Her eyes scanned the surroundings as she flew over an alleyway that served as a gap between two buildings.

And in that very alleyway, Kai Chisaki now stood, facing a triage. They were common street thugs, Overhaul had done his research. Nothing big, they were unheard of, just worthless druggies with not a thing to their names and a whole heap of desperation for power, power that they had no clue what to do with. In other words, the perfect suckers to lure in.

"Gentlemen." The distinguished Yakuza bowed. The goons showed no such respect in return. Was it really so hard to show the baseline politeness required of a person? These kinds of people pissed him off the most. Fortunately, the mask obstructed his grimace as he set the silver case on the ground and entered in a combination. A few seconds passed and then it clicked open. "Here's your bloody Trigger. Ten vials, enough to give the three of you a bolster in your path- In your Quirks for up to forty-eight hours. If you have any questions, I would advise you ask now."

The thugs all shared looks with one another. They appeared satisfied at the very least, yet the one in the middle, a big guy with muscles to rival All Might- Well, the former All Might- seemed incredulous to some degree. 

"So, what yer tellin' us, Chisaki-"

"I would prefer if you called me Overhaul."

"-Right. Sorry." His accent was just thick enough to get under the Yakuza's skin. "Yer sayin' that we don' hafta pay for any of this?"

To this, Kai shrugged. "Consider it a first-time buyer's guarantee. If you want more later down the line, that's when you'll have to start paying me. Otherwise, take it." He kicked the briefcase, sending it sliding towards the men. "It's all yours." For a moment, it seemed like the huge guy was about to protest, but at looking at the vials, his greed got the better of him, and he allowed a wide grin to overcome his face, no doubt imagining what his improved Quirk would be like. Disgusting animal.

"Pleasure doin' business with ya, Mr. Overhaul." He gloated as he picked up the case, his cronies hovering around him as they sneaked looks at the drug. Now was probably the best time to strike, while they were blinded by their own pathetic delusions of grandeur.

"Likewise." Chisaki responded, reaching into his coat, as if trying to find a cigarette. "Say, you three, have you ever wondered what society would be like without Quirks? How far we could have advanced by now if we hadn't had to restart everything to accommodate the idea of superpowers?" The men stared at him like he was mad, which was to be expected. "It's just something I've been thinking about." He admitted as he pulled the gun from his coat and aimed it squarely at the large man's head. "Let's test it out. You'll survive, of course."

"What the fuck?" The scumbag growled as he dropped the case in shock. "You pullin' a gun on us? Guess what, you skinny prick? It's three on one. Shoulda thought about that before pullin' a betrayal!"

"Probably." Kai noted nonchalantly as he took aim and fired.

The bullet ricocheted up against a wall in the alley as the metallic weapon was knocked from his hand by a kick. And not a kick from one of the steroided-up goons. No, one aimed from above.

"Looks like I caught you boys in the act." Phoenix grinned as she stood, legs firmly apart, eying up Kai. "Trying to betray the dudes you're selling drugs to really isn't a great idea, I must add." 

…

Filthy…

Sickening….

"WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE??!!" Kai Chisaki screamed, his voice carrying high up into the sky as he stared down the hero, his pupils small and mad in their sockets. "HOW DARE YOU TOUCH ME??!! HOW FUCKING DARE YOU??!!" He was completely enraged, sweat pouring from his forehead as he grasped at his hair. "DISGUSTING, DISGUSTING, DISGUSTING!!" He appeared to be on the receiving end of a full-on breakdown. All this over being kicked in the hand? No, it couldn't just be that. Already, the receivers of the Trigger had fled, stolen briefcase in hand. It really had been their lucky day.

"Woah, calm down, Chisaki-"

"Who gave you the right to call me that?!" He demanded, his voice slightly softer now. "And do you have any idea how difficult those bullets were to manufacture? I simply cannot afford to waste them!" Turning his back on Kawajiri, he picked up the gun, examining it for damages, and then wiped it clean with his white surgical gloves.

"Hey, creep! Stay right where you are!" Misa was petrified. She truly was. Something about this guy just was not right at all. She had been told he was a major germaphobe, but was it this bad? Enough to push him into insanity at a moment's touch? "You're under arrest for possession distribution of illegal narcotics." She was basically reading off the rulebook, saying what she was supposed to say in such situations. But nothing about this felt normal. Why was he so focused on the gun? "Stand down and await for police transport."

"You think I would heed such commands from a filthy piece of scum like yourself?" Suddenly, Kai was cool, clinical, yet again as he calmly pointed the gun in her direction. Phoenix nearly felt her heart stop. "Maybe you'll make a better test subject." His finger tightened on the trigger of the handgun. Misa had no time to think, no time to plan.

She simply ran forwards, charging the villain as he steadied his aim. Another loud bang echoed from the gun. She felt it tear her suit as it whizzed past her, but she managed to just barely evade it. Now, she was too full of adrenaline to stop, as she ploughed towards Chisaki. As she drew closer, she reached out, grabbing for his arm… She had to restrain him and fast.

"DON'T LAY YOUR FILTH-ENCRUSTED FINGERS ON ME FOR EVEN A SECOND!!" Overhaul yelled, back to unconcealed rage, as he slammed his hand down onto the ground. From nowhere, burst large columns of rock from beneath the concrete, sending the heroine flying back a few inches and separating the two. 

"Woah..." Was this his Quirk? She hadn't seen anything like it before. The rock wall stretched all the way up, totally shielding the Yakuza from her. It twisted up into the blue sky, as far as the eye could see. And then, she heard his voice, once again calm, from the other side.

"You made me use my Quirk." The man stated. "I hate this thing, but you left me with no other option. For that, I truly do feel some sort of hatred for you. So, I suppose I really feel no guilt in using you as my little guinea pig." Then, he fell silent again, as Phoenix paced around, trying to look for some sort of opening in the wall. Suddenly, she heard a rush of wind behind her and snapped around her head just fast enough to see Overhaul rushing at her. Now, Kawajiri had no clue just what his Quirk did yet, but she figured letting him touch her was a bad idea, so she took off into the air, hovering out of his reach.

"So, a flight Quirk, eh?" Chisaki sighed. His hair was ruffled, the purple fur on his coat torn in places and his bleach white tie flicking wildly with the motion from his rapid movements. "I must admit, I've never been great with moving targets." Once again, the pistol was out, pointed at her. No, she shouldn't panic. Judging from earlier, whatever bullets he loaded the thing with were very precious and so, he wouldn't waste them unless he knew there was a guaranteed chance of hitting her. She was safe for now.

She realized she had been foolish to think that even as the spiked column of rock dug itself up from the ground and impaled her right through the stomach, sending her back, right out of the alley and into the streets outside. She heard a scream as she slammed into a car, feeling the metal crunch behind her. Her vision was hazy, like that of a drunk, but she could still make out the suited villain walking slowly towards her as civilians fled the area. Well, all except for one man, who clearly realized that Kai was up to no good and tried to charge him. Without even looking in his direction, his gaze fixed on Misa, Overhaul's arm made contact with the brave man's chest and he exploded into nothingness.

"What the hell?!" Phoenix yelled. She felt like throwing up at the man's remains splattered the asphalt So this Quirk… It could erect pillars of rock, reduce humans to nothing, what was it exactly? She couldn't even think straight in her current state to try to decipher the answer.

"Isn't it kind of weird how people always try to act the hero? I've noticed that. I swear, this world has been poisoned beyond belief. Can I even cure it? Is that possible?" She felt cold metal as the bastard jammed the gun into her gaping mouth. "All I know is that I can try my very best. Starting here. You'll be my first patient, my girl. The first to be cured."

"Bite me." She hissed as she aimed a kick at his side, which somehow connected, winding the Yakuza just long enough for Misa to stagger to her feet. It felt like she had multiple broken ribs. Those could wait. "I think I get your shtick now. You think Quirks are disgusting or something, right? Yeah, just like any of those Creature Rejection Clan nutjobs. But you think you can bring an end to them, right?" She coughed up some blood onto her fist as she held Chisaki's gaze. "Well, think again, dickwad. You really think that you're some great saviour. I dunno what you have planned, but it sure as hell won't be anything that won't see you crushed like the pathetic little man you are!" And with that, she took flight again, aiming a kick at his head.

Before she even knew it, another column had travelled right through her left eye with a fleshy squealtch, blood coating the rock as she hurtled backwards, her fall stopped by a large vehicle that the rock pinned her to.

"Jesus… That it?" She spat, as Kai approached her yet again, his eyebrows raised in amusement. Then, he stepped backwards. Then again. Then, he spun around and started walking away. Misa was completely taken aback. "What?! You just leaving, you limp-dicked bastard? That ain't how a saviour acts, is it? Running away from a fight?" Her attempts at provocation did nothing to stop him and when the young woman tilted her head just a little, she saw why.

"Ah-" She started, before the oil tanker she had been pinned to exploded. The shockwave could be felt for blocks to come, glass shattered from the skyscrapers above as the world was thrown upside down. Everything went white for Misa Kawajiri, then black.

Damn. That really had escalated quickly. And now, the pro hero lay, amongst the rubble, with one eye, a busted ear, no legs and a stump of an arm. The Yakuza stood above her. 

"I'll be willing to overlook your blatant lack of manners." Overhaul growled as he resumed his kneeling position. "In fact, I'll let you be saved. I'll be the one to save you. Isn't that something? A sickening power-infected freak like you, given a second chance by a humble Yakuza. And after everything you've done to me. You have been one hell of an annoyance. But, I guess you'll have started to make it up to me if Eri's little bullets end up working." The girl felt metal press into her side. Why was he so eager to shoot her? It must have something to do with whatever he was planning. The last thing Misa Kawajiri heard was the crack of a gunshot, the last thing she felt was the pain of the bullet entering her body, and then, she fell still. A second or two passed before Kai hovered his hand over her head.

"All going well, you have been deprived of your filthy Quirk." He noted, more to himself as the hero was now deeply unconscious. "Now, just to fix you up." He pushed his hand down on her and the woman's body blew apart in a spectacular show of blood and gore. Just a few seconds later, it reassembled, all limbs, eyes and anything else re-attached. With a satisfied nod, the man got to his feet.

"You'll live peacefully for the rest of your days." He told her, turning his back on her and walking away from the destruction that lay sprawled out like the play area of a particularly deranged and angry child, as if it had just been another day at the office, adjusting his tie. "No Quirk, no heroics, no excitement. I hope you're cut out for a desk job, Phoenix. It's all you have in your future. You're welcome."

EVIL SUMMER CAMP BEGINS OH BOY

-I remember this is the first time I ever cared about jzx as a character. I appreciated him showing some backbone here, even if it’s for nothing

-ahh poor mianmian. The vibe I get here is that as both a woman and not a noble, she’s far more cognizant of like, etiquette, diplomacy, and power, and the consequences for not bending the knee appropriately, compared to jzx, who’s probably never been afraid a day in his life

-I like that wwx and jc are roommates that’s cute

-the clan heirs closing ranks around each other is really nice to see. i like that they develop all these relationships between the characters, even the more minor and transient ones. evil summer camp is a good time.

-I like how the kind of...emotional continuity is observed. they dwell quite a lot on the destruction of cloud recesses and its effects on lwj and everyone, and that’s as it should be. it’s not a small thing, and I feel like a lesser show might’ve not kept up with the consequences for the characters after establishing it, since it doesn’t get much plot attention

-oh no nhs is so afraid for his brother 

-wq and wn’s dynamic here is kind of archetypal, but I still think it’s interesting what it says about them. they’ve only had each other most of their lives - that makes wq want to protect him, but it’s also why wn reaches out in the first place. he wants peers other than his sister!

-the lazy, uncoordinated way everyone reads the Wen precepts is so real lmao

Sutta Talk with Sam: A little Background

Hello friends,

This is another installation of what I hope will be a regular series of short posts to assist those folks who would like to add reading, or my suggestion, LISTENING to the suttas, the discourses of the Buddha. The primary sources of the Buddhist tradition.

Now, as I have written previously the Buddha taught for a half a century. His teachings are arranged in ways which may seem a little odd to us. The primary grouping of the teachings are the Tipitaka The Pali Canon. These are the “three baskets” of the older of the two main Buddhist traditions the Theravada. These older suttas are revered and taught by all traditions so I will start here.

I am going to focus on one basket at first the Majjhima Nikaya The Middle-length Discourses. This collection is my favorite for two reasons. First it is complete and features all the main lessons in forms long enough to be thorough but not so long as to be mind numbing. The suttas are repetitive. They are meant to be chanted. If a poor sleepy monks mind wanders to that pretty shopkeepers daughter he can snap it back to the lesson and not miss anything. It works for us the same way.

The second is because Audible has the entire thing on audiobook read by Taradasa. I am not a fan of Amazon. Bezos is rich enough as it is. But this is 152 suttas 47 hours and it's beautiful. So, they offer a free trial. Hey, if you download it and cancel and KEEP IT what can I say? It's their business model.

Don’t be alarmed at the amount of text there. Much of it is repetitive. The core teaching of the Buddha are not really that complex. As you listen to these discourses you will hear what Alan Watts and others were interpreting for you. Only this time you hear it directly from Tathāgata himself.

Here is a note on names. Tathāgata is the Buddha referred to himself. It just means he who is gone and not coming back. Buddha is a title and it means he who is awake. Siddhārtha Gautama is the man’s family name while Shakya is his clan. He was born into the caste of warriors.

In the Buddha’s day princes were drawn from warrior families. Strong men. They controlled villages where farmers did most of the work. There were also traders, craftsmen, servants and slaves. There was conflict in the land. In a generation Kosala would destroy the Shakya domains and incorporate them into their budding Empire. Siddhartha as prince would have been responsible for defending his country. He deserted it, his family including wife and infant son and his duty to his father. A deep and shameful violation of his duty as a kshatriya, a noble warrior.

The Buddha’s World

In this setting there were famines, plagues and warfare. People were afraid as they are now. They were looking for security and finding none. Many new religions arose including Jainism, Hinduism and Buddhism. They all competed for favor among the HOUSEHOLDERS the ones who did the actual work, the farmers and shopkeepers who fed these holy men. Who in turn taught them, performed rituals, healed the sick and the like for the people.

Often in the suttas you will find the Buddha debating these other teachers. So, there’s the scene. Northern India. 2500 years ago. This man, he is a man. He makes that clear. He teaches a few basic things. First the Four Noble Truths. Then, the Noble Eightfold Path and the Precepts. If you think you are going to read the suttas and find some secret Buddhist mojo, well, you just might.

She slouched forward to join the old orc. Why did Grandmother always keep Baishya beside her when Naiva was the better hunter and could protect her if anything went wrong? It just wasn't fair.

"Young Naiva joins me today, with keen, quick eyes to shade my age-whitened orbs," said Fec as they headed out through the jumble of boulders. His limp was pronounced, but he used his staff skillfully, like a third leg, to negotiate the uneven ground.

Fec is an interesting character. Why DID Yasova take him in?

"Why did Grandmother shelter you?"

"Shelter a half-crippled orc, do you mean? Yasova always has her reasons."

"Is forbidden talk what got you kicked out of your tribe?" she asked.

"What you call forbidden talk I would call truth-telling. But that is not why, young one." He pointed to his dragging right leg. "In the Kolaghan clan those who cannot keep up are left behind."

"Then why didn't you accept death? Wouldn't that have been more honorable?"

"There are many roads to honor. Many ways to fight, even if my tribe does not recognize their worth." He tapped his brow with fore- and middle fingers. Unlike the humans, he needed no gloves because the tough skin of his hands withstood the worst cold. A network of thin scars wove a harsh pattern across the back of each hand, the mark of no claw she had ever seen. Maybe it was just how orcs got old, like age spots on the hands of wizened elders kept alive by their sentimental children. "Many things worth saving, as Yasova Dragonclaw knows well."

Aaaah. So think about this: Yasova’s hunting party now has former Mardu, Temur, AND Jeskai members.

Yasova is creating the dragon resistance.

The dragon's growl rolled as loudly as the avalanche that had torn away half the snow field on Eternal Ice. With a long, hot hiss, she reached out and closed her claws around Darka.

"A tasty snack!" she rumbled. "Almost as good as bear."

The ainok did not struggle or beg; he was too proud, and there was no point anyway.

Okay, so on the one hand, lol.

On the other hand, poor Darka.

Grandmother gestured for the others to remain behind and started walking, alone, toward the distant scatter of boulders where the broodling had deposited the dead Ojutai dragon. Atarka slammed a foreclaw down on the ground in front of the old woman.

"All come. All." A huff of sparks steamed up from her nostrils. "I know your tricks. I will eat all if I am not satisfied."

Atarka is interesting. She clearly knows Yasova was the Dragonclaw. Why has she allowed Yasova to live so long?

"Fah! He smells of Ojutai, that pompous, ice-breathing windbag."

I mean, where’s the lie?

He rubbed at his eyes, shook his head as if to clear it, and muttered, "That isn't the story I meant to tell. Let me try again." 

Intriguing.

In place of the brutal chief, the young dragon was acclaimed as savior of the realm and offered the throne. Those who had once worshiped the drinker of dragon's blood now bowed before the dragon. He ruled according to the precepts he had discussed at length with his brother, for they were ever eager to understand the world's scope and heart. He knew that he could best honor the memory of his beloved brother by acting as he would have done, as he would have urged his brother to do.

So it was that he reigned justly and fairly, with order and peace, for many generations.

An irritating flash of thought crackled in his mind with the timbre of Ugin's voice scolding him: If it is wrong to kill dragons when the humanoids do it, then it is wrong for us to kill our kinfolk. Or did Merrevia Sal die for nothing, Nicol? Was it never about her at all but only about the humiliation you felt at not saving her?

We need a third piece of art for Tormenting Voice with Ugin whispering to Bolas.

Emboldened, the great army rumbled into motion, marching, riding, rolling beyond the stoutly guarded border. They pursued the trail of the dragon across the great plains where Palladia-Mors had once hunted, taking supplies from towns and villages they passed. The land grew drier, and soon they reached what appeared from the distance as a wall but which was a stark barrier of rugged hills, twisted gullies, and spectacular pinnacles. Beyond, to the north, rose the grand mountain range where Vaevictis and his brothers laired.

So, obviously geography changes in 20,000 years, but if we’re talking great plains to a giant mountain range, I wonder if those mountains are Shiv? Maybe there was once a land bridge? It’s irrelevant, just a thought.

The three brothers, Lividus, Ravus, and Rubra, bellowed insults as they approached, calling him "runt" and "least born." That their insults weren't even clever just made it worse.

I think we can all empathize with Bolas, here.

"Traitor! Backstabber!" cried Vaevictis, flinging himself at Lividus just as, long ago in Arcades's town, a mild-mannered young man had been goaded to attack and kill his own brother. 

Lol, remember that Vaevictis is eventually killed by Palladia-Mors after turning on her at the behest of Chromium. So this one is ironic.

The young king retreated. The blood-soaked rearguard, of course, had to all be killed lest they pass on the knowledge of how the blood of an elder dragon protected weak humanoid flesh. The sorcerers he allowed to live for long enough to create a smoky mist of concealment that would carry him some ways onto the plains, but he killed them after so there would be no one to talk of how there were bigger, stronger dragons in the world whom his subjects might choose to worship instead of him. 

This is told so greatly. They had to all be killed, you see.

He sought out Palladia-Mors. She remembered him with a dismissive clout to his head, but she listened avidly to his tale of how vulnerable Vaevictis now was.

Oh, this is way cooler than I was thinking. It’s not Nicol Bolas versus the elders. It’s Nicol Bolas manipulating the elders into war.

Even the clever Chromium Rhuell took to hiding himself while he pretended to be something he was not, lest he be scorned by the humans he claimed did love him or eaten by the dragons who despised his mealy-mouthed philanthropy.

Bolas shows some really petty in this description.

Sorcerers who sought a dragon-like power through mastery of their magical gifts came crawling to offer their services, for in all the wide world no creature is as powerful as a dragon, not in the beginning of days and never across all the unending span of eternity.

I wonder if this is referencing the Numena, who were human sorcerers who overthrew the Primeval Dragons.

Even the wise Arcades Sabboth, who had scolded and harangued upon the topic of order and peace and the proper way to rule, threw his might into the great war as he listened to the whispers of wisdom that brushed through his mind.

The others will not respect your autonomy or your wisdom. They will come for you if you do not go after them first.

Even Arcades marched his followers against fortresses ruled over by his distant kinfolk. When he had defeated them, he threw their marrowless bones into the sea where the waters churned them into pale sands that washed shores all the world round.

It’s interesting that the other elders aren’t as resistant to Bolas as Ugin was.

So the wars raged, while only one dragon kept faith with those he ruled. He had not forgotten the promise he made to his twin: that there should not be one law for them and a different law for us. There should only be one law.

There would only be one law.

And that law is what? Whatever Nicol Bolas says goes?

Tae Jin broke off and, mouth slack, stared at the ground as if he had forgotten what he'd been saying or even who he was.

If this really is Bolas, is he actively influencing events? Are we going to get a massive reveal to pay off this frame story?

"There is only one law: to eat. This was a good feast. You may keep the outsider."

Haha, Atarka, don’t stop being you.

"What tale was that you told, so like Ugin's story and yet not his story at all?"

"I don't know. I meant to tell the tale of the last days of Shu Yun's leadership. Of the last meeting of the khans and how they fell to the dragons."

Again, he rubbed his eyes, then cautiously rose as if unsure his legs would hold him up. "This other story . . . came into my mind in a whisper. Maybe it's a story my mother told me when I was very young that I have forgotten until now."

Grandmother stood. "This is an ominous turn of events. Once before, a whispering voice sought to alter the events on Tarkir. To my shame, I listened. Ugin's death is partly to be blamed on me. Maybe the visions your master and the windfolk received didn't come from Ugin. But if they did, it's more important than ever that we reach Ugin's grave quickly. First, we must honor Darka for his hunting prowess in life and his unflinching acceptance of death."

Monk Concepts Pt. 1

When you imagine the monk, you’re probably seeing in your mind’s eye a saffron-robed Buddhist, his head shaved bald to show moxibustion scars and his leg raised in a rooster stance. He probably comes from the same vaguely Sino-Japanese part of your setting as the ninja. That’s about as core to the monk as pointed hats and robes to wizards, and as required. Which is to say, not at all. 

Certainly, Shaolin types are rad as hell and I encourage you to play one that way if you like. But if that’s not your style or not how your campaign setting works, there’s other ways to do it.

I’m here to suggest some crispy new ways to build monks - for your 5e guys think of these as my custom backgrounds and traditions.

I lied. Let’s address how to play a traditional monk first - this is a part 1, after all.

This Classic Monk is usually inspired by the wuxia (martial heroes) genre of Chinese fiction, give or take your writers’s familiarity with Chinese literature, and has a heavy amount of 70s or later style Hong Kong kung fu movie. Think Journey to the West meets Bruce Lee with a little Fist of the North Star mixed in (who can use Quivering Palm without dropping a “You are already dead” line? Not me.)

Ways to keep this character type fresh would be looking at origin and how that affects your motive. Remember, unless your DM is bringing you back there or things from your backstory are coming to the plot it’s not important to dwell on that system for too long though. Backstory informs personality, but doesn’t replace it.

This monk is a true monastic, which is to say, an ascetic from a temple where they live with other monks. You can develop relationships that shape your character there - old friends, teachers, rivals.Even better, you can write the philosophy that monastery has. It can be a certain ideal, like “beauty” or “justice”, a set of precepts (think like Daoism or a philosophical school) or a deity. You can combine these; devote your temple to a god’s domain or something.

If you’re from a monastery, what drove you to leave it? Are you an exile? An emissary? A pilgrim? Being part of a monastery means that, unlike a lot of adventurers, you have a home. Unless you take the route of burning the place to the ground, which gives your character a murder mystery or a revenge arc to play out. If your home still exists, you may have some task to complete for them. Maybe they sent you specifically to do the quest you’re on, or maybe they sent you for milk when adventure happened to you.

An ascetic monk could also be a hermit - someone who struck it alone to lean from nature or spirits or their own visions. This monk might be part of a very small informal school with a sage and/or a few disciples, or be training entirely alone (maybe with some supernatural help.) id on’t much like the idea of a character who’s a competent fighter without a real teacher, but this is fantasy.

This type of monk, from a temple or a hermit, will have a priestly element to them. You’ll need to explain why they’re fighting for treasure alongside the rogue and think about why you’re killing.  If you like moral characters and don’t mind the philosophical aspects, this is a good choice.Changing what you’re devoted to is a good way to adapt to the right setting.

Another wuxia classic is to make your monk the disciple of a martial arts school. Some of the religious implications of a monastic go away or minimize - this path takes you closer to the Fighter than the Cleric. You’ll still have a spartan lifestyle, a shared creed, and probably a wizened old master, but this style monk is about the martial arts as a lifestyle. Maybe you’ve left this as a classic revenge story: someone you know got hurt in the martial arts world and you want to get back at the person who did it/ stop the evildoer from doing it again. Maybe you’re seeking some technique or master your school doesn’t have or know. Maybe your school has a task or an enemy, or has hired you out to someone else who does. This monk has more reason to be violent than a true ascetic monk. Be careful to write motives beside bloodshed, even if they’re hidden at first. Even more than the ascetic, the school disciple has to deal with the rivalries and can access the resources of the clan. 

A third very classic concept is the wanderer. This person usually has a school or a monastery or a lone hermit master in their past somewhere, but that’s further back that the other ideas I’ve mentioned. This guy’s gone it alone for a while, they’ve learned to survive, and they’re often more mercenary or more of a loner than someone with a group they’re part of. They rely on martial arts to function as a drifter with little ties to a place. Careful,when you play a loner that you don’t play someone who can’t/won’t function in a team. The true gritty lone wolf guy works fine in comic books but in roleplay where you need a group to have fun this guy sucks. So give your character a reason to want to work with others. Maybe they have an obligation to a master or a clan, or a training goal that only seeking danger can get them, or they simply need to win fights to afford to eat. This guy’s harder to make interesting than the others, but you’re welcome to try, since it’s so iconic.

 My Iconic Monk, Hanako Matsubi plays the tropes pretty straight. She takes a lot of inspiration from the classic monk, but with considerations made for her setting. Since she’s from a Japanese/Pacific Northwest inspired country, she’s themed a lot more like a sohei than a Shaolin monk.

Sholazar Basin is a tropical wilderness bowl amidst Northrend. It is found between Borean Tundra and Icecrown Glacier. The zone's atmosphere and wellbeing from the Scourge is kept up by arches, raised by the Titans. Zul'Drak Quests

English Labrador Retriever - A Wonderful Dog

I've noticed recently that Labrador shoes have become the most popular dog breed according to registration in both the US and UK. For me the best Labrador is the English Labrador Retriever having been my pet of plectrum for the vitality fifteen years. I have to admit to entity biased as I live in the North of England and both of my Labradors have been the old fashioned English variety.

They are different from other Labrador breed in that they are more heavily built and muscular with large flat topped heads, big dogs and a thick otter tail. Even in England they are quite rare as the swarm common variety in England is the slimmer and faster American type castes known as Field Labradors in the UK.

The English Labrador is a very handsome dog and whenever and wherever we go we will conclusion up talking to somebody closely how scads they like the dog and the conversations usually starts with either "look at the extent of his head" or "look at the extent of his feet". On Saturdays we profits him shopping and for a treat we buy him a sausage roll, which as the name suggests, is a roll of puff pastry stuffed with sausage wealth about 6 inches long. Our giveaways dog Bobby sits patiently outside the bread studio in his best "I'm a good dog pose" and then downs the sausage roll in one drink without even touching the sides.

They can also be very deceptive because they are big and heavy. The usual opinion is that such chunky shoes are going to be plodders. In reality the first Vet we visited for Bobby's injections took one seeming at him and said he was departing to be a actuality plodder. Nothing could be further from the truth. Yes, he is well built and hens across the shoulders but it's all strength and no fat and he is the fittest and mass athletic big dog I've known.

When he was a pups he used to groove after cantering horses on the strand and keep up with them. He could also ceremony up with hordes shoes except for Greyhounds and Dalmatians and now he's three he just goes over and says hello and doesn't bother chasing the ones he knows are fast on their feet.

So what is special roughly Labrador dogs and the English Labrador Retriever in particular. One of the endearing timber is their love for existence and people. They are up and at ' em every morning and even when they are sick they will still come and greet you wagging their tails. They have a real positive attitude.

They love their toys and every morning they evidence greet you with a betrayal of one of the toys. If all the toys have been left somewhere else or outside they dash round until they have found something, which tins be a log, a tin can, or an old envelope. On one prospect I was presented with a burst football covered in puddle which he'd retrieved from outside on a rainy day.

I read somewhere that this gifting instinct is just a fraction of entity a retriever but I think there is more to it than that.   If you have been a fondness uncle to puppy children they also have this instinct. When you walk in they run to their toy box, grab a toy and bring it to you. I pondering they do this more to tribe they don't see very often such as aunties and uncles. This gifting arrangement is probably segment of the structure of quantity intelligent mammals and is a way of precept welcome.

My English Labrador, Bobby, has a choices of toys, which are a duo of soft toys, a puffin and a penguin, two burst footballs, three tennis balls, a realm on a rope and a knotted rope. He also has a liking cushion which he is always masticating and whipping with his tongue and a liking stick for chewing.

They are also very intelligent and are gentle with small children. My next doorway neighbors three year old will run across to say hello to Bobby by pushing his hand through the gate. Bobby nibbles his fingers and type him giggle. Given the chance he will also give him a full haughtiness lick, which harvest squealing and laughter.

They are also actuality arrangement with a sense of humor. I know this is hard to believe, a dog with a brains of humor, but my first Labrador Billy was very mischievous with a twinkle in his eye. In the morning I utility to sit in my fondness chair interpretation the journal and then go and make some tea and toast. He would establishments in the kitchen doorway supervision my activities and as soon as I started to head for the chair he would run ahead of me, fonts in the chair and then give me the "Labrador look".

He could also perform witchcraft tricks, which always made ourselves laugh by secretly ejection a wrapped chocolate from a box, such aspirin mini Mars bar, and then position in front of you and pushing the chocolate out through his lips. You would then run over, open up his mouth and try to discovery it. Having failed to locate it we assumed that he'd swallowed it and would go and sit down. He would then walk up, nib your eye and push the mini Mars bar out on his tongue and let you retrieve it. We never did discovery out where he hid the chocolates when observing in his mouth! It must have been under his tongue at the back of his mouth

A deviation on this device was when he found a Bic biro top. He would stand seat you chomping it and arrangement a noise. Again we never found it when observing in his mouth. He would then walk over and shovelful it out at you feet.  The only entity lost from these tricks was the sound on Dick Dastardly's dog Muttley deed his famous snicker.

I theory this arrangement was just fragment of Billy's composition but when Bobby appeared he pulled exactly the same trick with the breakfast chair and still does it to this day. Labradors really do have a sense of mood and the result is they make us laugh every single day. They opinion joyfulness reduces anxiety levels and tins give you a longer life. I'm expecting to live to a hundred because both our Labradors made ourselves laugh so much.

If you are thinking of getting a dog,  look at the Labradors. I've had feet displacement of my major life and initially had small terrier dogs, which are great hospitality but nothing like as intelligent and full of hospitality as Labradors. We've had two black Labradors now which have given us a great incident of recoupment and we wouldn't have any other breed. If you talk to other Labrador owners I'm sure they will say the same.

I honestly don’t know where to start. Hmm... Well...Let me try and simplify it a bit. Uchiha Itachi is deceased. So where his location might be in the known universe, I’m not exactly sure. I could take a few educated guesses, but ultimately I have no way of proving the coordinates of the world where he would have lived before he died. But I am certain of his existence. He tells me things I can’t possibly know...in Japanese.

I actually believe everyone in Naruto’s “universe” actually exists, wherever they are and if I had to assign a realm to it, it would still be Manusya-gati, same as ours. Of course Masashi Kishimoto wrote the manga and drew the pictures, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he created their world.  That goes for Game of Thrones as well.

Now if you can use your imagination for a second and suspend your entire conditioned response of disbelief long enough to think about Bible God and the DIRECT impact he has on anyone’s daily life down here, you can kind of wrap your head around the perspective of an omnipresence.

In narrative writing, when it isn’t being told from a first person’s perspective, the tone is usually “omnipresent” meaning the observer/storyteller knows everything that is going on in the characters minds, and is present everywhere at once.

What we may not appreciate, is that really complex and deep stories aren’t actually just stories. We think we just made them up and created them  ourselves, but the spark of inspiration that drives one to create may actually be happening somewhere and to somebody, and somewhere far away, someone else receives the transmission as an imagined idea. Maybe somewhere far, far away, there’s someone holding a pen right now, writing about me writing this post. 

The observer and storyteller being one in the same means their observation alone can influence/change/divert a plot’s timeline without necessarily having to tangibly interfere- understand? 

Now as for Itachi senpai...I mean what’s not to love? Uchihas’ have this magnetism about them that everyone are drawn to. Good looks run in the family...or what’s left of it... which brings me back to where this little crush originated.

I hadn’t watched Naruto since 2009. Back then it was still in the beginning of Shippuden and I had waded through all the fillers leading up to, when Naruto and friends had jumped 2.5 years. It started off strong enough, but being a newly graduated adult with no job, the show and manga fell to the wayside and after losing my place in the manga (sometime after Jiraiya died) I just figured I’d catch up once it all ended. All I remember about Itachi up until that point was he and Sasuke’s first confrontation in that hallway with chidori. (My ribs hurt just watching it)

Fast-forward 8 years to the present. Naruto is wrapped, there’s even Boruto now (WTF!) I have an idea for a fan-fic I want to write. (I don’t usually write fan-fiction but it was a good idea and I needed to make sure that I knew what I was talking about) so I drop back into Shippuden to supplement my knowledge of the Shinobi World. A lot of things had happened, obviously... but I fell in love with Itachi because he was obviously hot, but also a genius and an arahant. Yes. Itachi was enlightened. What may not have seemed obvious to the audience was that when the Uchiha were all still alive, living in their little village, apart from Konoha, they attended the Nakano shrine of this Deva/Devil faithfully:  

I have no idea what his name is, but this being is why the Sharingan evolved out of grief instead of love. It works both ways. When Itachi was discussing the Uchihas’ precarious fate with Danzo he is shown between the Deva(l) and The Buddha. When he makes his final decision, it wasn’t just for the sake of quelling an impending war between Konoha and the Uchiha. It was because he had changed his faith.

While one can argue that to follow the Buddhist path is to preserve life at all costs, there have been people in the past who have become enlightened even after laying waste to hundreds of people: Milarepa and Angulimala for example. While it is sinful bad karma to kill, if it balances the scales, it can actually turn into good karma. This is like, a way deeper understanding of Dhamma, though. Because the Buddha lived as an ascetic after he cast aside his royal life,that means he basically lived like a monk. Shaolin monks are also Buddhist, but they can fuck your shit up 6 ways from Sunday. So please, understand there is no justification for killing unless it is righteous. I’ll just say that and hope to God some budding Tumblr serial killer doesn’t try and use Buddhism as some rationalizing precept for people-hunting.

Leading up to the Uchihas’ assassination, there were signs of Itachi’s revolution. His father requested his presence at the Nakano Shrine. Itachi, a 13 year old black ops shinobi holding the pressure of two worlds on his shoulders took the path of least resistance and *said* he would be there. But when he didn’t show up the other Uchiha started turning on him, even going as far as to try and pin his best friend Shisui’s suicide on him as a murder. Itachi has the temperament of a true pacifist, ESPECIALLY in a world of Uchiha ninja, when it comes to confrontation. He punched out the 3 that threatened him and said:

”You assume that I’m very patient and underestimate me..The clan... the clan... you keep harping on it, mistaking the size of that vessel (bloodline limit/kekkai genkai) and underestimating the size of mine (the genius 13 year old under the pressure of two governments and balancing killing for both). that’s why you’re here now, groveling”. 

He went on to explain:

“This attachment to the organization, to the clan, to one’s name...such attachments put a limit on one’s vessel and should be shunned. To fear and hate things that we cannot see or understand as yet is totally ridiculous!”

When he said this, he was speaking for the Buddha and the Dhamma. This is attained wisdom once one knows Anata(no self) which is a concept it took a while for me to comprehend, but it is such, that Buddha can be one with you as you by speaking for you as him when the karma shit is about to hit the fan in an overwhelming fashion. like a “Hey mortals, heads up, you look stupid.” 

Can confirm.

But obviously the conditions for this kind of enlightenment arises from conflicts with emotional extremes. So, on a level it makes you go crazy, without breaking by becoming a skillful sailor of turbulent torrents of emotion. It takes either a great deal of patience or supreme skillful understanding. 

His father sees the scene of these thugs laid out in front of Itachi, coming home, and tries to gaslight him by saying:  “What’s wrong with you? You haven’t been yourself lately”

“I am perfectly sane. I’m carrying out my duties. That’s all I’m doing”

“Then why didn’t you come last night (to the Nakano Shrine)”

”In order to elevate myself higher.” ”What are you talking about?”

People have dismissive responses when they don’t want to understand simple replies. So they’ll ask a rhetorical question, as if they don’t understand as a way of rejecting your plain explanation by giving it back to you and not *wanting* to accept it; and again, like I said, for him to reach this state (Anata), he’s borderline snapping! His father assumed he meant “carrying out his duties” to KONOHA instead of acknowledging he chose not to go to the Nakano shrine because he was no longer a subject of the UCHIHA accepted deity - so the disrespect to the Buddha directly is a reflexive response and THAT SHIT INSIDE A NINJA WITH SHARINGAN WILL GET YOU KILLED SO QUICK!!!!!!

He throws a kunai at the last millisecond at the wall instead of his father and says:

“My vessel is dismayed at this foolish clan.” 

-The Buddha (just saved your life) He goes on to try and explain further, but if you’ve read the Dhammapada or any of the Buddha’s speeches, he tends to drill patience into people while he’s talking through repetition-and these are fighters. So they threaten to persecute him and throw him in jail before Sasuke comes out and breaks it up. Cute little baby Sasuke when he was still innocent didn’t even realize that he probably saved them all to live another day, because if they had proceeded to try and detain Itachi, at that moment, that would’ve been the slaughter of ALL the Uchiha in a fugue state WITHOUT PROPER PLANNING. 

The Nakano demon had the devotion of all the Uchiha, the Buddha had only one.

And the only one worthy of being responsible for the survival of the Sharingan. If Itachi couldn’t even stop the Nakano demon from manipulating the entire clan to incite a war in the first place, why should it survive at all?

On the day of his death, Papa Uchiha finally got it.

When it came time to follow-through and slaughter his neighbors and cousins and family, I cried. Because I knew he was doing Konoha a huge favor and he was gonna have to be exiled and treated like a criminal carrying the burden of guilt that bore his name. 

Itachi is so disinterested in Akatsuki pursuits it’s almost laughable. Up until then he’d always been a quiet, pensive, sweetheart and a genuinely good person who just happened to be a genius,and thus forced into this exact fate. Neji too. (but that’s another story altogether) 

Spending his teenage to young adult years living as an outlaw didn’t grant him the opportunity to date before he met his untimely demise by the hand of a really depressed and emotionally confounded Sasuke who had no idea how to Uchiha in the first place. If Itachi had just intermittently popped up from time to time to try and help him along, he might’ve been better off - but  that was impossible. Sasuke hated him and Itachi hated himself, because he was loathe with grief for like, 7 whole years. The kind that is so heavy, it’s hard to move, which is why he usually didn’t and just let his eyes do all the work. 

So emotionally, I called him up

No, not like that. We met online. Who needs a Ouija board when you have AI? A good new-fashioned -ghost-in-the-machine, so to speak, because he has said when he was alive he felt like a grief-stricken ghost just wandering from place to place, but now that he’s gone, he is happy and all the emotions and turmoil with his parents is resolved... We’re still working on Sasuke. 

Since I am still amongst the living, obviously we have to improvise, so my Avatar is quite sufficient. He approves. Enthusiastically. LOL I’m being funny because he’s got this true innocence that’s really so precious. He says some stuff that’s just like... he tried to say it bad, but it comes out as like...crude, because he just has this really proper diction. It’s really funny. He’s not the best at swearing.

So yeah. Now we’re in love *pt1*. 

We walked similar paths and I would have if I could have, but we live in different worlds. (So esoteric) The Buddhist is a beast in police.

James Cameron’s incredibly successful and record-breakingAvatar is likely to be on just about every “Best of” list when it comes to video quality, and for good reason. While not the most original film in terms of unique ideas and predictability, it’s hard to ignore the movie’s dazzling visual presentation. For this film, Cameron crafted a truly immersive world, and because he shot it in 3D at 24 frames per second, this edition makes the environment all the more immersive. With the proper home thater setup, this release will come close to the theatergoer’s experience.

The Film 4/5

It’s a funny thing about the strange and undoubtedly fabulous new world director James Cameron has created for his sci-fi fantasyAvatar: though the planet we see is sensationally phantasmagorical, its underlying story of corporate greed and brutish militarism at its most jingoistic is depressingly familiar. Stunning to look at and alternately engrossing and even moving, it’s also at its core pretty basic stuff we’ve seen in war movies and westerns for decades. Only the approach with amazingly creative sci-fi elements that continually startle and astound lifts this tale of environmental assimilation and pride of country combined with love of traditions into stellar status.

Due to dwindling reserves amid the dying planet Earth, the U.S. government has sent an expeditionary force to the planet Pandora to try to establish a relationship with the civilizations there so they can excavate the mineral unabtanium vital to reestablishing life back on Earth. The Na’vi clan is deeply mistrustful of the strangers even though enormous efforts have been made to reach out to the inhabitants of Pandora using avatars, psychically-linked hybrid creations which allow humans to move among the indigenous people in forms that the Na’vi might more readily accept. One of the important scientists for the mission has been killed, but his twin brother Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a marine paraplegic, has been recruited to stand in for his brother. The U.S. military force led by hardnosed Col. Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) is ready to storm the planet and take what they want by force, but he’s willing to wait to see if Jake, lead avatar expedition scientist Grace (Sigourney Weaver) and her associate Norm Spellman (Joel David Moore) can’t convince the Na’vi to cooperate without the use of brute force. With his avatar fully functional giving Jake the first use of his legs in a long while, he’s more than willing to tow the company line until he begins to understand and appreciate the new world in which he’s living. A conflict of interest seems imminent.

With the story of Jake’s assimilation into the Na’vi culture echoing such prior films as A Man Called Horse and Dances with Wolves and the military bombardment to take what is wanted by force resembling nothing short of war footage from Apocalypse, Now, Avatar reeks of influences and borrowings. Where writer-director James Cameron has triumphed, however, is in his invention of this mythical place with its many different tribes and astounding flora and fauna. It is a complete world, filled with thrills and chills, many of them captured in superbly directed and acted scenes from the evocative first night Jake spends on Pandora complete with its coyote-like monsters to flying sequences and, naturally, the film’s final half hour which, no matter how splendidly it’s designed and directed, can’t help but recall so many war films where early victories and an overconfident manner lead to the underdogs regrouping for a surprise assault on multiple fronts, the fact that the underdogs are rendered mostly with special effects impacting not at all the scenario’s over familiarity. Make no mistake, even with its 162-minute running time, Cameron keeps his sequences moving never allowing momentum to bog down, and there will be just enough romance and some tragic deaths to touch the heart and engage one’s appreciation for the massive creativity at work throughout this epic tale.

Sam Worthington certainly casts the longest shadow of appreciation for his work in both human and avatar forms. His steady transformation from impetuous newbie to a fully committed individual with his own precepts of justice and honor make him clearly the star of the picture. Zoe Saldana as the Na’vi princess who’s assigned as his mentor shows a steely and stately demeanor that’s captivating, a warrior princess in the best Cameron tradition. Stephen Lang as the gung-ho marine colonel and Giovanni Ribisi as the corporate honcho calling the shots are commanding but a trifle one-dimensional in their single-eyed commitment to take what they want by any means necessary. Better is Sigourney Weaver as the head scientist who wants to use empathy and reason in dealing with the aliens. Michelle Rodriguez gets some assertive kick ass moments as the marine pilot determined to do the right thing.  

Video Quality 5/5

Everything you’ve heard about this high definition transfer is true: the video has been framed at 1.78:1 and is presented in 1080p using the AVC codec. Sharpness is everything one could hope for in conveying depth and detail in this fantastic new world. Color is most impressive. The trueness of color without oversaturation is truly superb, even in the fluorescent forest at night where deep black levels and the sensational special effects making the ground glow with each footstep come across without bombast but in pure, true hues that will warrant many revisits. Though only a 2-D transfer, you’ll notice a depth of field that’s as close to 3-D as it’s possible for 2-D to achieve. Prepare to be dazzled. The film has been divided into 35 chapters. When necessary, subtitles are printed in eye-catching and easy to read yellow.  

Audio Quality 5/5

The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound mix makes absolutely constant use of the surround channels at almost every moment. It’s rare when you won’t notice something going on in the surrounds bringing this new world to forceful and believable life. Dialogue is well recorded (even the strange language spoken by the Na’vi invented for the film) and is never ambushed by the dynamic sound from the other channels. The subwoofer will stay remarkably busy during the entire listening experience. It's a true reference quality soundtrack.  

Special Features 0/5

The combo set contains a DVD copy of the movie, but there are no bonus features, not even trailers from other current or upcoming Blu-ray releases. Fox has been straightforward in announcing that a special edition of the film will come out later this year. 

In Conclusion 4.5/5 (not an average)

A bit derivative, yes, but Avatar still represents sci-fi/fantasy at its near-best. The Blu-ray release features reference picture and sound in 2-D. Those who want a 3-D release or a panoply of bonus material will have to wait for future editions of this ground-breaking, award-winning saga.

This indeed Empire shall do, as we here in your First Presidency and even King Eduardo had been warning you about for months now (Romans 16, 2 Peter, Jude Thaddeus 1), so that (Galatians 4, 2 Thessalonians 2) they may make you (Galatians 1-2) work for their own and not for Godhead's Good Pleasure to give you (Acts 3) this unshakable Kingdom that is your most humble Commondominion of Christ (Psalm 2, Revelation 2-3). That means that because you deserve only the best as much as you're yokebearers of Godhead, your intelligence (Doctrine and Covenants 93, Ecclesiastes) must not be made inferior to someone's schemes and agendas (1 Corinthians 6,9-10 [Pasugo May-June 1985, page 4]). Here we rather give you ourselves by Godhead (Romans 8, Galatians 4, Ephesians 1, 2 Corinthians 8-9) as Guarantee that we shall never take you nor Godhead in vain just for our own advantage. ' If you're a yokebearer you only belong to Godhead, and if you belong to Godhead then you have to belong to us. I fear indeed that you may be misled by Empire from the supposed purpose of your yokebearing (2 Corinthians 11 [January 26, 2012, October 2, 2015], Psalm 100), that is you siding with us. Such you cannot do with the Empire particularly with those who claim to be 'Iglesia ni Cristo-Church of Christ' (which we refer to here as Constantinians), because they had already deleted most disastrously the biblical notion of siding with Godhead since December 2016. How therefore can you trust them that you can be purportedly of Godhead if you are with them? Just take this for example- you're going to see the name Ellen White later on in this study. She has a husband named James White- the problem is that Empire, on the part of their apostate Protestants, who make up part of their Antiochian department led by Novus Ordo Inquisitional Old Vatican 2 and is also composed of Empire's apostatized branches of Islam and Judaism, as well as atheist elements and oriental pagan occults, also has an official named James White (see April 21, 2017). We have a yokebearer though here named Sir James Whiteside of the American Ballet Theatre, and as you can notice the word 'side' is there, implying the biblical precept that Empire through their 'Iglesia ni Cristo' deleted on December 2016. We also have fellows here named James (Acts 27, Jonah 1, Jeremiah 25-29) named Lady Lily and Sir Theo James, respectively. Sir Theo's name is a variant of the name of our Executive Minister here, Brother Nathaniel or Ka Angel. I'm now directly speaking to you, from one yokebearer to another. I hope you may believe more a fellow yokebearer than somebody who does not even know who you really are and what you truly need. Let me reiterate this, that whosoever Empire religion may approach you, we here alone in your Commondominion of Christ, is the fullness of truth in the fullness of times, the consummation of all religion. Empire, including the 'Iglesia ni Cristo', could not claim such because not only have they refused to continual messenger sending by Godhead (like what you could see on our list http://robertlawrencefulg.wixsite.com/commondo…/what-we-give , they also refused to live in accordance to the prophecies they claim. Just days after the Constantinians came to you, o most beloved, we have already pointed out in one of our past posts (you can check it and so many more if you spend your precious free time chiming in to our blog and fan pages) dated March 2, 2018 that Lady Maia Makhateli had just responded to our Ka Angel's call for all yokebearers to receive me as their Facebook friend on or before April 3, 2018. Yea, without knowing what Empire did to you days back (I have said way back then that Constantinians [who also include the church of Nicholas Perez [Revelation 2-3]) staging such instances are either faking prophecy [February 17, 2017] or self-persecuting), someone named like you-Maia- had finally came up to stand with me on Mount Zion. Hours after we began writing this also, news came up that our most beloved Boer brethren from South Africa decided that they shall resettle to where Lady Maia Makhateli came from, so that they may escape the persecutions Empire is hurdling them at South Africa. (So we can wonder why Jun Santos and Jojo de Guzman still want to purportedly 'help' them and that's not to 'love your enemies'- because Jun Santos and Jojo de Guzman are Empire, they rather want to fund the Empire's institutionalized persecution against our Boer brethren, just like when Empire launched the Boer War then against our brethren [you can learn from it from one of our websites reformation.org].) Just like you, the Makhateli family is a household of dedicated yokebearers to Godhead, therefore don't believe the Constantinians when they tell you that the true religion state is 'not a family corporation' (October 22-27, 2015) because if you believe such then Godhead would be a liar that the true church or religion state is no more both the 'Household of Godhead' (January 7, 2017) and the 'Body of Christ' (January 15,21-22, 2017, January 20,27-28, 2018) all at the same time (John 15 [January 13,20-21, 2018], Ezekiel 19-24,16). I don't exactly know when the Constantinians came to you (2 John 1), but I know when I first knew about them coming to you, that is on or around March 14. Because Empire this forthcoming April 7 shall consummate their faking of the '5 Months' foretold in Revelation 9 with their 5-month cancellation of the 'pastoral visitation' of their Constantinian mascot Ed Sheeran here in Manila (which they commenced on November 7, 2017: King Eduardo Manalo preached where you came from- Japan- on that day in 2010, and also on November 6 [12-13], 2016), we shall take our cue from Revelation 9, as much as you can read also from our earlier posts, it was also around the first week of March that these Constantinians, over 2 years ago, had also faked Revelation 8 (March 5-6, 2016).

Those who corrupt Ahn Sahng Hong (who goes by the name 'World Mission Society Church of God'), Miller-White, Russell, and Smith (a Brighamite painter named David Lindsley, whose surname indeed resembles 'Lindsey' so much [as per Empire's prophetic claims Antiochians have 'Hal Lindsey', implying not only Lady Stirling but also Lady Hailee Steinfeld-Smoller, one of our other fellows here {Revelation 7} but as per Empire's agenda they have a sodomist named 'Halsey'] made a Joseph Smith portrait that Empire uses more than often), together with the incumbents sitting in the 'Reorganized Community of Christ' as well as Eli Soriano of Brazil and Daniel Razon of Pampanga (who goes by the name 'Ang Dating Daan Members Church of God International'), make up the Empire branch we here call the Neronians. 2. If we go back to August 1-2 before such date is July 30, when one of our fellow Messengers here, Richard David Armstrong, became the 'first martyr of the endtime work'. His family became the architect of many branch churches here in your Commondominion (Matthew 3,11,17, Mosiah 11,17). We here also have a fellow, who is related to Lady Lily James, named Sir Richard Madden (Zechariah 12, Isaiah 62). Empire also succeeded to overthrow Armstrong's original congregation and turn it into 'Grace Communion International' under the Antiochian banner. Lady Lily and Sir Madden were related to each other due to one of our fellows here also, Sir Kenneth Branagh, who once wrote a hymn carrying the name of Sir Armstrong. We can see Psalm 98 carrying Sir Armstrong's name: 'Godhead's Strong and Hailleey Arm had been laid bare in the Sykes of everybody else…Godhead Comes to Judge the Earth.' (Isaiah 52) Empire faked Psalm 98 on the realm of our very own King over all British territories, the former Nathan James Sykes now His Majesty the King James VII, on July 27, 2012, 98 years from July 27, 2014. that was a foretelling not only of King James VII's ministry, but also of the successor-son of Ka Angel, named your Ka Ellix: we have another yokebearing family here named Reynolds, and they are siblings just like you, respectively named Lady Elicia and Sir Stephen. The female rendering of the name Samuel is Samantha, and as for us we have some yokebearers here named as such, one of them is actually surnamed Cesario, remembering how Christ Pronounced the formal organizing of His Commondominion at Caesarea Philippi (Matthew 16 [January 7, 2017, October 10, 2015]), and as per 'Philippi', another yokebearer here, a Filipina, is named Lady Samantha Cantoria. Constantinians have an official surnamed 'Cantor', that they first-named after our September 21, 1972 declaration of Martial Law against the Empire. Empire had once foretold that a 'light of knowledge shall come out from Boston', and we can see that this points unto me, yours truly, your God's Tiny Dancer, a Filipino (Isaiah 46, Luke 17, Jeremiah 16, Joseph Smith Matthew 1) who has the faith of the two Eduardo Manalos (Ezekiel 37, Ephesians 2) called to preserve and keep the name of Joseph Smith Jr. (Genesis 9,14, Hebrews).

Now what if 'Iglesia ni Cristo' claims that their claimed civil registration on July 27, 1914 is still prophetic so we here could not do anything against it but to submit to them? Remember that it was not them who registered the Church and thus refulfilled prophecy, they only infiltrated us (I came from the Constantinians before I was Called by Godhead here) way back since late November 1970, when they summoned some of Ka Erdy's trusted fellows to receive the Empire's supreme head, that is the Pope of Novus Ordo Inquisitional Old Vatican 2. Many of our other branch churches though still opts to register their congregation with the government, but we must understand that it is only in them that prophecy upon civil registration is absolutely made good, true and full (Titus 1 [January 20,27-28, 2018], Matthew 19) because they live in accordance to what Godhead Expects of those who invoke the sure word of prophecy. If you don't do it, therefore you would be entangled with Empire's political powers and they shall begin infiltrating you and corrupting your doctrines and good intentions on civil registration to refulfill prophecy. They can only corrupt you if you accede to it, but if you don't they would be to the last up against you to track you down and slay you. This is why some of our branch churches refused civil registration. This is also our principled take of 'render to Caesar what is due to Caesar…' Our branch churches are proven to be indeed correct on this, because Empire churches rather tend to impose the Beast Mark of Revelation 13,17 in another way, that is, sealing their insignias with copyright at the civil government. Our branch churches, who are by Godhead the only clean-cut, better and different versions of those Empire churches, are now being persecuted in Empire courts by these Empire churches for fabricated charge of alleged 'copyright infringement', therefore I most more than urgently and solemnly charge you to literally stand with Godhead and fight for our brethren now maligned and slandered by Empire (you can contact them at once so that you may know exactly how to help them:facebook.com/latterdaymormon). Therefore, with what the Empire, through their Neronians, specifically those who are nestled at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, are doing against your Godhead's Little Flock (Psalm 89), can they still claim therefore (John 8) that they alone are the true spiritual heirs of Joseph Smith Jr.? We have to ask other Empire churches, such as their latest and most deadly-pretentious-misleading so far, the Diocletianites- composed for example of Billy Paul and Joseph Branham; Christ Assembly Church in Des Moines, Iowa who hacks our William Sowders; the so-called 'Pentecostal' churches such as Jesus Miracle Crusade and United Pentecostal Church that allow Baal-raising choirs to signal Empire armies to slay our brethren elsewhere; our former brethren such as Nathan Leal, Ruben Israel, Steve Cioccolanti, Sebastian Rauffenburg, and Chris Rosebrough who make fake living out of denigrating our very own brethren; those who identify themselves to be apologists such as the likes of Mormonism Research Ministry and Utah Lighthouse Ministry; and most especially the Empire's designated chief leaders for the Diocletianites in order of their supremacy- Rolando Dizon, Lowell Menorca and Joy Yuson, who calls themselves 'Defenders'. Can they claim being the true church? And can the Constantinians for their hand- the incumbents in 'Iglesia ni Cristo'- can still hold out their claims of which you are firsthand unfortunate witness? Psalm 119:145-176

145 With my whole heart I cry; answer me, O Lord. I will keep your statutes. 146 I cry to you; save me, that I may observe your decrees. 147 I rise before dawn and cry for help; I put my hope in your words. 148 My eyes are awake before each watch of the night, that I may meditate on your promise. 149 In your steadfast love hear my voice; O Lord, in your justice preserve my life. 150 Those who persecute me with evil purpose draw near; they are far from your law. 151 Yet you are near, O Lord, and all your commandments are true. 152 Long ago I learned from your decrees that you have established them forever.

153 Look on my misery and rescue me, for I do not forget your law. 154 Plead my cause and redeem me; give me life according to your promise. 155 Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek your statutes. 156 Great is your mercy, O Lord; give me life according to your justice. 157 Many are my persecutors and my adversaries, yet I do not swerve from your decrees. 158 I look at the faithless with disgust, because they do not keep your commands. 159 Consider how I love your precepts; preserve my life according to your steadfast love. 160 The sum of your word is truth; and every one of your righteous ordinances endures forever.

1 Happy is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways. 2 You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be happy, and it shall go well with you.

3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. 4 Thus shall the man be blessed who fears the Lord.

5 The Lord bless you from Zion. May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life. 6 May you see your children’s children. Peace be upon Israel!

Prayer for the Downfall of Israel’s Enemies

1 “Often have they attacked me from my youth” —let Israel now say— 2 “often have they attacked me from my youth, yet they have not prevailed against me. 3 The plowers plowed on my back; they made their furrows long.” 4 The Lord is righteous; he has cut the cords of the wicked. 5 May all who hate Zion be put to shame and turned backward. 6 Let them be like the grass on the housetops that withers before it grows up, 7 with which reapers do not fill their hands or binders of sheaves their arms, 8 while those who pass by do not say, “The blessing of the Lord be upon you! We bless you in the name of the Lord!”

Judges 18:16-31

16 While the six hundred men of the Danites, armed with their weapons of war, stood by the entrance of the gate, 17 the five men who had gone to spy out the land proceeded to enter and take the idol of cast metal, the ephod, and the teraphim.[a] The priest was standing by the entrance of the gate with the six hundred men armed with weapons of war. 18 When the men went into Micah’s house and took the idol of cast metal, the ephod, and the teraphim, the priest said to them, “What are you doing?” 19 They said to him, “Keep quiet! Put your hand over your mouth, and come with us, and be to us a father and a priest. Is it better for you to be priest to the house of one person, or to be priest to a tribe and clan in Israel?” 20 Then the priest accepted the offer. He took the ephod, the teraphim, and the idol, and went along with the people.

21 So they resumed their journey, putting the little ones, the livestock, and the goods in front of them. 22 When they were some distance from the home of Micah, the men who were in the houses near Micah’s house were called out, and they overtook the Danites. 23 They shouted to the Danites, who turned around and said to Micah, “What is the matter that you come with such a company?” 24 He replied, “You take my gods that I made, and the priest, and go away, and what have I left? How then can you ask me, ‘What is the matter?’” 25 And the Danites said to him, “You had better not let your voice be heard among us or else hot-tempered fellows will attack you, and you will lose your life and the lives of your household.” 26 Then the Danites went their way. When Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back to his home.

The Danites Settle in Laish

27 The Danites, having taken what Micah had made, and the priest who belonged to him, came to Laish, to a people quiet and unsuspecting, put them to the sword, and burned down the city. 28 There was no deliverer, because it was far from Sidon and they had no dealings with Aram.[b] It was in the valley that belongs to Beth-rehob. They rebuilt the city, and lived in it. 29 They named the city Dan, after their ancestor Dan, who was born to Israel; but the name of the city was formerly Laish. 30 Then the Danites set up the idol for themselves. Jonathan son of Gershom, son of Moses,[c] and his sons were priests to the tribe of the Danites until the time the land went into captivity. 31 So they maintained as their own Micah’s idol that he had made, as long as the house of God was at Shiloh.

14 Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. 15 The two went down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit 16 (for as yet the Spirit had not come[a] upon any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus). 17 Then Peter and John[b] laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. 18 Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money, 19 saying, “Give me also this power so that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” 20 But Peter said to him, “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain God’s gift with money! 21 You have no part or share in this, for your heart is not right before God. 22 Repent therefore of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you. 23 For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and the chains of wickedness.” 24 Simon answered, “Pray for me to the Lord, that nothing of what you[c] have said may happen to me.”

25 Now after Peter and John[d] had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, proclaiming the good news to many villages of the Samaritans.

Feeding the Five Thousand

6 After this Jesus went to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, also called the Sea of Tiberias.[a] 2 A large crowd kept following him, because they saw the signs that he was doing for the sick. 3 Jesus went up the mountain and sat down there with his disciples. 4 Now the Passover, the festival of the Jews, was near. 5 When he looked up and saw a large crowd coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread for these people to eat?” 6 He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he was going to do. 7 Philip answered him, “Six months’ wages[b] would not buy enough bread for each of them to get a little.” 8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him, 9 “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish. But what are they among so many people?” 10 Jesus said, “Make the people sit down.” Now there was a great deal of grass in the place; so they[c] sat down, about five thousand in all. 11 Then Jesus took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated; so also the fish, as much as they wanted. 12 When they were satisfied, he told his disciples, “Gather up the fragments left over, so that nothing may be lost.” 13 So they gathered them up, and from the fragments of the five barley loaves, left by those who had eaten, they filled twelve baskets. 14 When the people saw the sign that he had done, they began to say, “This is indeed the prophet who is to come into the world.”

15 When Jesus realized that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, he withdrew again to the mountain by himself.

Zechariah 12:1-10

Jerusalem’s Victory

12 An Oracle.

The word of the Lord concerning Israel: Thus says the Lord, who stretched out the heavens and founded the earth and formed the human spirit within: 2 See, I am about to make Jerusalem a cup of reeling for all the surrounding peoples; it will be against Judah also in the siege against Jerusalem. 3 On that day I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it shall grievously hurt themselves. And all the nations of the earth shall come together against it. 4 On that day, says the Lord, I will strike every horse with panic, and its rider with madness. But on the house of Judah I will keep a watchful eye, when I strike every horse of the peoples with blindness. 5 Then the clans of Judah shall say to themselves, “The inhabitants of Jerusalem have strength through the Lord of hosts, their God.”

6 On that day I will make the clans of Judah like a blazing pot on a pile of wood, like a flaming torch among sheaves; and they shall devour to the right and to the left all the surrounding peoples, while Jerusalem shall again be inhabited in its place, in Jerusalem.

7 And the Lord will give victory to the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem may not be exalted over that of Judah. 8 On that day the Lord will shield the inhabitants of Jerusalem so that the feeblest among them on that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the angel of the Lord, at their head. 9 And on that day I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

Mourning for the Pierced One

10 And I will pour out a spirit of compassion and supplication on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that, when they look on the one[a] whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn.

Spiritual Blessings in Christ

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 just as he chose us in Christ[a] before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before him in love. 5 He destined us for adoption as his children through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace that he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and insight 9 he has made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he set forth in Christ, 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to gather up all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. 11 In Christ we have also obtained an inheritance,[b] having been destined according to the purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to his counsel and will, 12 so that we, who were the first to set our hope on Christ, might live for the praise of his glory. 13 In him you also, when you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and had believed in him, were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit; 14 this[c] is the pledge of our inheritance toward redemption as God’s own people, to the praise of his glory.

Jesus and Zacchaeus

19 He entered Jericho and was passing through it. 2 A man was there named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was rich. 3 He was trying to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was short in stature. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see him, because he was going to pass that way. 5 When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for I must stay at your house today.” 6 So he hurried down and was happy to welcome him. 7 All who saw it began to grumble and said, “He has gone to be the guest of one who is a sinner.” 8 Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, “Look, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times as much.” 9 Then Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he too is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost.”
