Final Major Project: Production
Fixed Animatic
youtube
Note: After the tutorial with Steve and Sam, I got suggestions for balancing the film's structure. I will make the final part digitally, the homeless man in the police station, but I would like to do the part of his memories in the traditional way, with inspiration from the flipbook animatic I made at the beginning of the project. In addition, Sam suggested a film named It's Nice in Here, so I may get some ideas from the film because it has a similar topic to mine. I will make more visual changes in the film and in my script for the story. For that, I will need to join the script workshop, which will happen in the next few days.
Updated Version - inc BGM and Voice
youtube
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the script tutorials, Sam helped me fix the dialogues in my script for my final major project. In my preview version, there are some grammar mistakes and awkward phrases. We solved them and tried changing some character settings, such as the details that Tom (the homeless guy) always buys food in the supermarket, but where is the source that he gets money to buy them. In addition, in order to make the story end smoothly and reasonably, we discussed adding a scene in which another policeman walks into the room in the police station and talks to the police for a minute without Tom. In this scene, I got a chance to describe how fearful Tom is and how he is worried that he will get into jail.
Storyboard - ADDED SCENES
Tumblr media
Based on the scenes added to the fixed script, I made a storyboard which can support me in the production when I am going to make the final part of the story in the police station.
I plan to duplicate the two parts in the film - one of them is Tom's memory of how he was captured in the supermarket and sent to the police station. It tells what happened to the audience in his own words. I would like to make this part on paper drawing, similar way to the flipbook I made in the early times.
The other part is Tom speaking to the policeman in the police station. On the timeline, this part represents the present. To help the audience better distinguish, I will present this part in digital form. I plan to use Procreate on my tablet for this part and Premier Pro for post and editing.
Animation Test - Digital Part
youtube
I am testing the blurring effects to change between foreground and background. I used an eye-level camera angle to lead the focus to the door, especially the new character who will walk in from the door.
Further Plans
I am satisfied with the colouring; it might not be colourful for the whole film because I'd like to make it simple. I will make character lip tests as soon as possible to see if they will fit my script. Also, I will need to find out if someone can help with the voice acting. There are some characters that need to be decided especially how their voice should sound based on their personality and attire. I want to find the right person for voice-act based on these clues.
Halfway Animation film
youtube
I currently working with the part I added for the script with Sam, starting from the other policeman knocked the door and get into room to ask the police for talking outside.
In my plan, the police station part will be illustrated with fully digital painting. I think they are looking great on colouring. I wish I could draw the memory part on paper after I finish the digital part.
For voice acting, I have contact three people for voice job in the past two weeks. They are still working on recording and I am waiting to see if the audio will fit my film. I plan to solve them this week.
Up to date film with voiceover (For reality check)

TBH it's (still) mystifying to me how so many people read Floornight and just, uh . . . understand the plot?
Some people do find it hard to follow, but a lot of people don't, or at least don't mention finding it hard to follow when they write about it on the internet.
Or like, they may mention it once in passing, in the course of a post that mostly talks about the setting and the plot and character beats. Which makes it clear that, while "trying to figure out WTF is going on" was a part of their reading experience, it wasn't the most dominant part, and wasn't the primary thing coloring how the whole story felt.
I'm glad it worked out this way, but I still don't understand how it worked out this way.
Floornight is an extremely complicated story where like five billion different things happen, in a setting that is basically 3 to 5 entirely different far-out-weird-idea SF novels smooshed together into one.
And then, on top of that, it is unkind to the reader's comprehension in a bunch of other, arguably unnecessary ways!
Several times, it introduces a new element of the setting by showing you, not just the thing (which is novel and weird to you if not to the characters), but an abnormal version of the thing which the characters also find weird for their own (not directly explained) reasons. It throws terms like "animatic link" and "shift radix" at you without ever defining them. The title itself refers to a mysterious aspect of the setting that is technically "explained," but only implicitly, requiring you to connect the dots between facts mentioned in passing in scenes that are mostly about something else!
There are parts of the plot and setting that I don't even understand anymore, because I forgot what I originally intended, never wrote it down outside the book, and when I go to re-read the book it leaves the topic ambiguous.
When people say things like this about Almost Nowhere:
There’s another update, and I once again want to rec Almost Nowhere so that people who are smarter than me will read it and analyze it and leave comments with their theories about what the fuck is going on here, because every update is this new and tantalizing collection of hints and oblique answers and new questions about this thoroughly mind-bending situation.
if you, like me, enjoy when a work of fiction makes you go “WHAT” and “UHHHHHH” and “??????!?” on a regular basis, read Almost Nowhere, first chapter here
I'm like "yeah, that's fair, and that's a large part of the vibe I'm going for . . . but I do hope things are comprehensible enough that the plot/character stuff can have the impact I want, too."
Like, these days actually I put in a conscious effort to avoid the unnecessary obscurity that (IMO) Floornight had at times, in the hope that if the reader is confused, at least they're confused about the right things.
Yet somehow, Floornight itself did spookily well at keeping the reader confused about the right things (or just not especially confused).

F/A War Timeline of Important Events (as of 3/13/2022)
*falls in the room*
…bonjour!! Lorekeeper Lyr here! (hehe it aliterate AND rhyme)
it’s been a while since this creative mess has been updated! if any new guys here are wondering why i’m here with this… thing, it’s because i’m one of the only people who can comprehend the Fluff/Angst War events!
and i’m pretty sure i’m bad at comprehension!
so i wrote a synopsis for new folks… right under the cut, bc i realized that THIS was getting long!
also here’s a guide to reading the timeline: newly added events are highlighted in red, additional notes are indicated with ADD/N
and any info from cc’s and/or offscreen info is encased in {curly brackets, while important pieces of plot are in [square brackets]!
for some reason, the art side of the SIX the Musical fandom started a war between Fluff & Angst (like… the fanfic stuff), due to how the fandom’s almost perfectly split between one or the other.
sooner or later, the First War had begun, which was mostly drawing ourselves in one of 3 sides: The Fluff Side, the Angst Side, and… Team Switzerland. y e p.
(except for Astro, the sole exception who made himself switch sides in order to make things equal)
back then, there was… not much lore, and it was mostly just fun banter and speculations abt our role in the War!
that is, until next year, when one of the Fluff people, DJ, posted an animatic filled with stuff abt what could’ve happened in the First War back in 2020. this made the sole member of Team Switzerland, Rowan, to make the comic that introduced the Second War, starting the creation of lore of such complicatedness that it might be rivaling that of Homestuck but not quite.
oh yeah, and not only Team Switzerland changed their name to the Furry Side, but two new factions rose up in the midst ofthe Second War: the short-lived War Criminals, newcomers who wanted to cause chaos and arson; and the Clean-Up Crew, a powerful duo of Gods who formerly sided with one of the two main teams, and whose main goal is to kil- er, ‘clean up’ people.
now without further ado, here’s the timeline!
First War, 2020
— Start —
Overall Summary (last scene maybe in later parts of the First War) [ x ]

(ADD/N: The above event is only a reblog from cc!Abi’s blog, since the blog it was originally posted on has been deactivated. c!Trinity of the War Criminals did a crime of her own as well, which was… burning a portrait of Henry VIII. Unfortunately, the art depicting it has been deleted off from her Tumblr blog.)

Jam gets Another Newspaper [ x ]
DJ encounters Jam outside Angst HQ [ x ]
Jam not-so-nicely asks DJ some Questions [ x ]
Alshain casts Virgo’s Prayer (a.k.a. Clean-Up Crew kills Survivors as a Warning) [ x ]

Astro asks the Stars (a.k.a. Astro witnesses Virgo’s Prayer) [ x ]
DJ takes Advantage of Virgo’s Prayer against Jam [ x ]

Knight is Persuaded to help Angst (a.k.a. San’s Introduction) [ x ]
Jam’s Unfortunate Realization (same time as Astro spies on Angst) [ x ]
Rowan gives Kes a Mission (possibly takes place within the DJ vs. Jam arc) [ x ]
Abi starts Making Improvements on her Pendant (maybe a day after Jam’s Unfortunate Realization) [ x ]
(ADD/N: In the same vein as her previous war crime, c!Ben burnt down an entire neighborhood and its inhabitants. Like all their other F/A posts, they have been gone since the blog was deactivated.)
Clean-Up Crew meets Abi (a.k.a. Abi is Killed after burning her Fourth City) [ x ]
Abi’s Last Words and Thoughts (same time as above event) [ x ]
Altair gives a Message to Rowan via Kes (+ Alshain kills off the War Criminals) [ x ]
Lots of Stuff happen in Kes’ POV (starts from the same timeframe as above event, until after The Janitor’s Aquarium) [ x ]
(ADD/N: c!Knight left the forest after they talked to c!Kes, and thus triggering the Jam meets Crow!San event as Crow!San flies away.)
War Criminal Ghosts want to find Gale’s Pendant (or at least that’s Gale’s plan) [ x ]
(ADD/N: c!Gale’s magical pendant was eventually found by c!Trinity between the timeframes of this event and the next. I have no idea how she did that. Though the comic depicting that has also been deleted from Tumblr.)
Gale seeks Vengeance against Clean-Up Crew [ x ]
Altair encounters Gale (a.k.a. Altair seemingly kills off Abi for Real) [ x ]
Alshain kills off Bea and Trinity for Real (a.k.a. The Janitor’s Aquarium) [ x ]
Jam meets Crow!San [ x ]
Altair brings Gale in Chains and heals Alshain (a.k.a. Two Deities bicker in front of Fire Ghost) [ x ]
(ADD/N: The last two events take place from at least a few hours to about a day after Lots of Stuff happen in Kes’ POV. Turns out I finally have some comprehension of that event since [12/17/2021]. Great job, me!)

Hello, new viewers/followers.
If anyone is seeing this, then congrats! Have you found my blog. “Don't mind me, just passing through” is the best way to describe this thing. This was supposed to be a promoter for my fanfic/”writing testing grounds” account and to keep up with one of my mutual followers.  Here’s a common tag thing because there are some repeating topics/running gags.
The Count of Monte Cristo - A 19th century French novel that (for some reason) has a fandom. This is one of the prevalent topics because it’s surprisingly interesting. Sometimes it is tagged with “Spooky AU” in reference to a building snowball of an alternate storyline based on fan art I found and/or requested on a account test-run whim. Yes, you can request fan art on here if you can find the right people.
Incorrect Quote - This is what happens when a person finds a quote and says “hey, this can be applied to some characters I like”! I am one of these people. XD This can be applied to the topic above or otherwise.
Writing Prompt Responses - Literally what it says. Any writing prompt that catches my fancy, I write a response on it. However, it appears that a few of them are more connected than you would think...
“Shower”/Music Thoughts - Not really shower thoughts as much as scenes that play out while listening to music. It could be a song recommended randomly or a song that I have discovered thanks to wandering in Broadway music territory for so long. Any other rambles not under this tag are just musings that I just felt like posting.
Jekyll and Hyde - This is based on any musings on the 1990s musical, albeit not the 1990 concept album. These are few and far in-between.
“Five Nights” - An indie sci-fi “horror” game that, for whatever reason, has caught my attention. All one needs to know is that diner-owned animatronics have gone haywire, including Spring-trap the Rotten Rabbit, who is the main villain. All I can say is blame the book section at Wal-Mart for this one.  Oh, and I’m only doing stuff loosely based on it. No overly crazy, creepy stuff here. Undertale - Another indie game that I have never played but know something about. It’s not horror, but it includes “monsters”. If you have any questions, please see @calcium-cat. The fan community has expanded the story and world so much, I’m sure a simple search will be more confusing than relieving. Same goes for “Five Nights”, though the creator is to blame there. Mane 6 Redesign - In which the six main characters of the fourth generation of My Little Pony have been redesigned and given a brand new story to accompany them. This was a “for fun” thing inspired by many artists who have done the same thing. I have no idea if they have any alternate stories as well.
Ink Potts - An animatic series that has combined classic literature musicals with the same six characters plus a few extras. However, they might be getting of the horse-powered bandwagon so maybe wait for an update from me before checking them out. Besides, they wisely put discretions up if they knew a song/scene is going to get iffy...
And now, people you might see on my blog. I’m surprised any of them follow my blog, but okay.
@frosted-firefly/@rowan-of-the-ravenwood: A follower who I am collaborating with on the Spooky AU/Monte Cristo side of things. From personal experience, she is friendly and willing to talk. Her art is also very good, as you’ll see further in the blog.
@calcium-cat: Another follower that you’ll see Under-tale art from on my “Like” page. She is also friendly and easy to talk to. She is also writing a story on her own fanfic account, which I recommend you check out if you’re already into Undertale.  @writing-prompt-s: This is where I get my prompts from. I carefully select each prompt before typing, so not all of them that you see on my side is the only stuff they post. I don’t know them personally (same goes for firefly), but I respect their contributions to this site.
Any other names: I just liked their posts and wanted to reblog. I have no idea about them personally, but I admired that one thing. Think like YouTube, but it’s written and not in a video.
Well, I think that covers everything. If I missed anything, feel fire to use the “Dive In Deep” option to ask a question. You don’t have to have an account  to do so, but you might need to pass a “not a robot” test. Just saying.
I hope you enjoy your visit and um... please don’t get mad at me. 😅

Someone you like (part 1, updated)
After uploading the first part of my plance fic here, I ended up writing more on that same period of time. It’s not much, but I thought I would add it anyway.
This fic is based on the “Someone you like” animatic by honestlyprettychill. Their work is super bomb, so I ask you guys to go check it out and give the artist some love. With this update, I’m hoping to have wrapped up on the pre-Garrison time period, and I have already started writing Pidge’s pov of their time as students, so you’ll have that to look foward to, if you end up enjoying this fic. My other post has more disclaimers, so you can find it here. This story is also available on AO3.
The part I added comes after the -- that I used as a page break.
Thanks to everyone who has liked and reblogged this verse. Feel free to add comments in the tags or to straight up come talk to me. I love feedback.
Spanish to English translations at the end.
14 and 12 years old
The truth was that Lance went to Space Camp because Veronica could be a little pest. She knew their parents wouldn’t let her go alone and so had enticed her younger brother with the promise of travel and foreign girls and no parental supervision.
Veronica had obviously left out the fact that they were essentially going to school on steroids for a month, smack in the middle of their summer break. Cool as Miami might seem, Lance wasn’t exactly excited for all the extra work the camp would entail.
“No es un acampamiento,” his sister repeated for what felt like the thousandth time. He wasn’t listening anymore. “Tú sabes que el campo de explotación espacial no está muy desenvuelto en Cuba. Si realmente quieres trabajar con eso, entonces simplemente cállate y no insultes a nadie.”
“¿Cuando he insultado a alguien?” he shot back, defensive. Veronica didn’t dignify that with an answer.
As much as Lance might like to think himself very smooth, there were still times when he stumbled over his words, especially in English. More than once he’d meant to pay someone a compliment and had accidentally started an argument of some kind.
Veronica looked impatiently at her watch. “Mira, tengo una reunión con mi orientador. Y tú tienes por lo menos dos artículos para leer para las clases de mañana, ¿por qué no vas a la biblioteca para trabajar un poco? Prometo comprarte una hamburguesa después.”
Lance pouted at her, arms crossed over his chest. “Me debes más que una hamburguesa y lo sabes, Ronie.”
His sister snickered, but it was as much of an acknowledgement as he was going to get. Veronica pressed a quick kiss to his hair, already turning to go into the main building.
“¡Gracias, hermanito! ¡No te arrepentirás!”
In all honesty, Lance wasn’t as irritated as he made Veronica believe. He knew that a summer program in Miami was a really good opportunity, especially if he wanted to get into the Garrison in the following years. It was just difficult.
He was diligent and studious, but not as naturally gifted as some of the other kids. Besides, he hadn’t been to the US in a couple years, since his parents had mostly settled down in the family farm, which meant he still had to fall back into his English, a task made even more frustrating by the xenophobic comments from one of the boys in his AP geometry class.
The teacher had put an end to it right away, but the words stuck with Lance, for some reason.
With how much humanity had progressed in terms of technology, one would think they would be able to get past petty rivalry between nationalities and usually that was true, but the influx of foreigners following the establishment of the Galaxy Garrison in the US desert still annoyed some people, despite its existence as a multinational center for space exploration. It irritated Lance to no end, especially when so many of these scientific advances came from international collaboration.
If only he could shrug off the inadequacy that now grew in his chest.
Straight ahead, there was a path that led to a green area in the middle of the campus. The other students had taken to calling it the Woods, though it was more of a middle-sized park, with benches and picnic tables where anyone from the Institute could go to relax. That’s where Lance went, mind too full to really focus on homework.
He wondered if people would react that same way if he ever made it into the Garrison. He didn’t know how Veronica dealt with it all, especially when she was alone in Arizona most of the time. Barely a week had passed and Lance already missed his parents, the tenderness of home-cooked food and well-intended lectures.
No, he had to believe that Billy Underwood was an exception. The other kids hadn’t joined in on his taunts, even if no one had moved to defend Lance. It was still too early to make conclusions on his colleagues, especially when everyone had seemed so charmed by him before then.
Lance was so lost in thought that he didn’t realize he had been standing in front of one of the benches until a new voice broke through the peace of the park.
“Are you just gonna stand there?”
The words were somewhat harsh, but when Lance lowered his eyes to their source the girl winced, grimacing. She seemed to have spoken impulsively.
“Hmm, yeah.” Lance blinked at her for a moment, before finally sitting down on the bench. He made sure to leave space between him and the girl, not wanting to make the situation even more awkward.
“I didn’t mean to snap at you,” the girl said after a moment of silence. She looked at him sideways and her brown eyes seemed almost golden in the sunlight. There were freckles spread across the bridge of her nose and across her cheeks, and the green ribbon in her hair swayed in the wind. It was a soft sight, a contrast to the steeliness of her posture and gaze.
“It’s fine,” Lance hurried to assure her. She looked young, but so did he, and talking to complete strangers never failed to make him nervous. “Nothing like a little girl yelling at me to bring me back to earth.”
He gave her his best grin, the one reserved for first impressions and fancy parties. It was supposed to project confidence and kindness, even though Luis said he ended up looking a bit smug.
“I didn’t yell,” the girl pointed out with a light frown. Then her eyes shifted into a more calculating look. “You’re a bit of a goofball, aren’t you?”
“I prefer the term good-humored,” he replied jokingly.
She continued to stare. Lance got the feeling that the girl did this a lot. She had an untamed intelligence to her that Lance couldn’t completely understand. It was the sort of air that teachers sometimes carried, as if they could see something deeper in you if they looked long enough.
“It didn’t seem like you were feeling all that good-humored just now.” She tilted her head to the side, letting the words hang between them.
“Yeah, I suppose that’s true,” Lance found himself saying.
“Do you… want to talk about it?” She looked so doubtful that it almost made Lance laugh. The feeling, however, was overcome by the relief of finally having someone who would listen.
He had spent the week trying and failing to explain to Veronica what was truly making him feel down. She was too busy or too happy for Lance to tell her the truth, especially when it left him so vulnerable. After all, Veronica had taken to her work on the Institute like a fish to water. Lance was supposed to be more adaptable than this.
With the rest of his family away in Cuba, he felt unbearably lonely.
“Yes! Thank you!” Lance shifted in the bench to face the girl. She was taken aback by his enthusiasm, but didn’t move away. “There’s this cabrón in my class, who thought it was a good idea to mess with me, just ‘cause I said fábrica instead of factory in our first day here. He hasn’t really left me alone since…” he whined. “I speak two languages but somehow I’m the uneducated ass here!”
The girl nodded, eyes downcast. “I know what you mean.”
“You do?” He eyed the fairness of her skin and the almost ginger of her hair. “Sorry, but you look white.”
Lance’s comment must have taken her by surprise, because she actually laughed.
“I am white. I’m also Italian.” She rolled her eyes, but there was amusement in the tug of her lips. “I can be both.”
“That’s true.” Lance grinned sheepishly. It was good that she wasn’t offended by his lack of filter. “You don’t have much of an accent, though.”
“Neither do you,” the girl bit back, no real animosity in her tone.
He shrugged. “My family spent a lot of time in the US when I was younger. It used to be second nature to me. Now, I keep feeling like I have to hold back the instinct to roll my R’s.”
“I get that. My parents moved here right after I was born, but we used to speak Italian in the house.” There was a pause here, something that she couldn’t bring herself to say. “I think it’s cool that you can speak Spanish. It’s useful.”
“Yeah?” Lance sat up straight, feeling suddenly boastful.
“Sure!” she continued, encouraged by his interest. “The Bouman Aeronautics Research Institute really values multiculturalism! It is a hob of different nationalities and perspectives, created to foster new minds from around the world! Or that’s what my brother says, at least, and he is rarely wrong.” She gave him a smirk that quickly shifted into a grimace. “Don’t tell him I said that or he will never let me forget it.”
“Older brother?” At her nod, Lance smiled. “I got older siblings too. Sort of the reason I’m here in the first place, actually. One of them was accepted as a researcher and she tricked me into applying too.”
“Same, actually.” She seemed startled for a moment, pulling out her cellphone. “Freak, I have to go! I completely lost track of time while reading.” She got up to go, collecting the book she’d apparently put down to talk to him. It was a thick volume with numbers on the cover, but it didn’t look like math.
Another green ribbon fluttered to the ground, having escaped the pages of the book. Lance bent down to pick it up.
“Here.” He stretched it out to the girl. “Wouldn’t want to lose its pair,” he said with a wink.
“Thanks for reminding me!” She grabbed the ribbon hurriedly, then paused, turning back to Lance. “And for the conversation, I guess.”
Lance grinned at her. She was a little awkward but in an endearing way, like she wasn’t used to having the attention of others on her. Given she empathized with his circumstances in the Institute, it wasn’t that big of a leap to assume that she had trouble making friends.
“Bye bye, Italian girl.” He waved, glad that he could spend these few minutes with her.
“Farewell, Spanish boy.”
Lance meant to correct her about his nationality, but she took out running, clearly late for something. He laughed at the way she stumbled across the uneven ground, careless like a little kid. It was a strange juxtaposition: the thoughtfulness of her earlier words and the childishness of her smile now.
He settled back into the bench, feeling much more content than he’d been earlier. It was nice to talk to people outside of class, for a change.
And, well, Italian girl was pretty. A bit young-looking for him, but he thought guys her age should be tripping over their feet for a chance to talk to her.
“Hey, you’re Lance, right?” A boy had approached while Lance observed the girl disappear from sight. He was tall and robust, with shortly cropped hair, but his expression was friendly. “You’re in my Analytics class.”
It took Lance a second to place him. Analytics was one of the classes Lance struggled with the most, so he hadn’t had as much opportunity to joke around there.
“And you’re Hunk!” Lance snapped his fingers, smiling. “Sit down, man! What can I do for ya?”
--
“No, I promise you, she’s a cutie!” Lance exclaimed, hands waving around in the air. Hunk chuckled at his exuberance.
“I believe you, Lance.” His friend’s tone was fond and amused, which brought a smile to Lance’s face. “You’ve told me about Italian girl a hundred times already. Why don’t you just approach her again? You said you saw her on campus.”
It was true, he had seen her: running across the woods with her arms full of books; sitting by the big windows in the cafeteria, papers spread across the nearby seats; standing under an oak tree with her face turned towards the wind, her long hair escaping from where she’d tied it back.
Lance pouted at Hunk. “She hasn’t spoken to me since…” he mumbled.
“Well,” Hunk scrunched up his brows in thought, “you did say she seemed younger than us. She’s probably just embarrassed about venting to a stranger out of nowhere.”
Lance threw himself onto his bed so that Hunk wouldn’t see his face contort in a grimace. He hadn’t meant to twist the story so badly, but he had already started talking about Italian girl before he realized he didn’t want to share his insecurities with the other boy. Hunk was almost excessively easy to talk to, but they’d known each other for too short a time.
“She didn’t seem like the shy type,” he retorted, arms spread over his head. “Too snipy.”
Hunk had gotten up from his place at the desk and moved to sit on the bed, shaking his head at Lance. He had kind eyes, something that Lance hadn’t really noticed on that first week in the Institute. Some things just got lost amid the noise, he reasoned.
“For someone who feels no shame hitting on random girls, you sure are hung up on this one.” Hunk poked him on the ribs and Lance recoiled, twisting away.
“It’s not like that!” Even as he said it, Lance could feel his neck grow warm. He wasn’t really attracted to the girl, but there was something pleasant about her that did leave him faltering. “Seriously, dude, she’s probably the same age as my little sister!”
Hunk hummed in acceptance. “If you say that’s not it, then I believe you. You just talk about her a lot for someone who you only met once.”
Lance sat up to look Hunk in the eyes. It was true that his mind kept drifting back towards that girl, but he didn’t think the emotion she awakened in him was romantic.
“I’ve just never clicked with anyone like that,” he confessed, bringing his knees up to his chest. “And maybe that’s also why I haven’t talked to her again. ‘Cause what if it was a hoax?”
“So you don’t want to ruin the memory of it?” Hunk put a finger to his chin in a considering motion. “That’s fair.”
There was more to it, but Lance didn’t feel like explaining himself further. Several times he had gone by Italian girl in the library, even stopped to look at her, considering, but whenever she raised those amber eyes to meet his, Lance froze. He blushed and blustered and eventually left.
It was nice to see her smiling, though, even if it was at his expense. She was always alone when Lance saw her and it reminded him of how isolated he’d felt before befriending Hunk.
Italian girl was clearly smart, probably smarter than almost anyone in the institute, given how fast she went through those complicated-looking books. She also spent a lot of time in the library, because it was where Lance most ran into her. It was always her and her astronomy books and her ribbons.
Maybe he was projecting. Luis said he did this a lot.
“I just hope she found a friend here,” he said, more to himself than to Hunk, “someone who will also end up a little late just because they want to hear her out.”
Hunk studied his face, making Lance shift his position in discomfort.
“Who could have known?” the boy started teasingly. “You’re actually a good guy behind all that arrogance.”
Lance used his elbow to push Hunk off the bed, complaining more dramatically than was truly warranted. His friend laughed as he got up, only to throw himself back onto Lance to mess up his hair.
“What the hell, dude? Going for my hairdo?” He tried to free himself from Hunk’s arm around his neck. “Friendship over! We are no longer rooming when we get to the Garrison!”
Hunk didn’t let up and the two continued to laugh well into the afternoon.
Their time in the Institute would end in a little over a week, and Italian girl would drift to the back of Lance’s mind to become a lovely memory, just the afterimage of someone who could have meant more to him.
Translations:
“No es un acampamiento.Tú sabes que el campo de explotación espacial no está muy desenvuelto en Cuba. Si realmente quieres trabajar con eso, entonces simplemente cállate y no insultes a nadie.” - “It’s not a camp. You know that the field of space exploration is not very well developped in Cuba. If you really do want to work in this area, then simply shut up and don’t insult anyone.”
“¿Cuando he insultado a alguien?” - “When have I insulted anyone?”
“Mira, tengo una reunión con mi orientador. Y tú tienes por lo menos dos artículos para leer para las clases de mañana, ¿por qué no vas a la biblioteca para trabajar un poco? Prometo comprarte una hamburguesa después.” - “Look, I have a meeting with my coordinator. And you have at least two articles to read for tomorrow’s classes. Why don’t you go work for a bit in the library? I promise to buy you a burger later.”
“Me debes más que una hamburguesa y lo sabes, Ronie.” - “You owe me more than a burger and you know it, Ronie.”
“¡Gracias, hermanito! ¡No te arrepentirás!” - “Thank you, little brother! You won’t regret it!”

🎉 5 Years of Guillem el Gat 🎉
Hello friends! Today is the 5th year anniversary of my blog, which means that I’m officially no longer a Tumblr newbie! It also means it’s time for a celebration, because a blog only turns 5 years old once ^-^
I started this blog as a place to just ramble about Catalan and my language learning, back in high school when I didn’t really know anyone who studied languages for fun. I didn’t expect to find other people interested in languages, let alone a whole community of people, but when I did it legitimately changed my world. In the 5 years I’ve been running this blog I’ve gone from a shy and lonely high schooler to a confident linguistics student about to start my 4th year of university. I’ve been to Catalonia twice and actually taken Catalan classes, both at my university in the US and in Catalonia. I started learning Basque soon after I made this blog, and now I’ve actually been to the Basque Country and talked to people in the language! I’ve started learning numerous other languages as well, all of which have made my world a richer place and have introduced me to new people, cultures, music, and perspectives. And of course, I’ve been introduced to the community of language learners on here, all of whom have been so important to me and helped me see that I wasn’t alone.
First of all, I’d just like to shout out all the people who’ve encouraged me along every step of the way of this blog. I won’t tag all of you, because there are so many, but just know that I’m truly, deeply grateful to you for everything you have done, even it’s just being here.
Moltíssimes gràcies a tots els meus seguidors catalans, sou l’hòstia i us estimo moltíssim.
Also a big diolch and mila esker to the Welsh and Basque speakers who’ve sent me messages or corrections. You know who you are and I honestly owe you my life.
Special shout out to all of the lovely mutuals who have sent me messages or been willing to have conversations with me, as well as the mutuals who I never talk to but who continue to loyally like/reblog/comment on my posts. You all are literally 90% of the reason why this blog continues to exist and I treasure every single one of you.
Thank you to all the blogs on here who make content for lesser-studied languages, especially minoritized languages and non-European languages. I love seeing all of you on my dash and I am sending love and good vibes your way <3 Also to everyone who is passionate about the languages they study and who love to scream about them on here, I see you and I love you so much <33
And as a final catch-all, anyone who’s ever followed me on here, who’s reblogged or interacted with my posts, who’s sent me a message asking me some random question about any of the languages I studied, and honestly just anyone I have crossed paths with on here. All of you have been a part of my life and I’m so glad to have shared it with you!
(There’s definitely typos in this but moving on)
Okay, if I haven’t lost you yet, here’s the exciting part of the post! Turning 5 years brings some new and fancy stuff ^-^
The first exciting development is that I’m going to be updating my blog theme and tags and basically just overhauling and changing everything in an attempt to make it more accessible and easy to use. I was hoping to have it done before this but it’s turning out to be more complicated than expected so hopefully it’ll be ready sometime in January, keep your eyes peeled 👀
The second exciting development is a *drumroll*...
PLAYLIST GIVEAWAY!
Send me an ask or a message with the following:
one or more languages (can be any, including English and languages that I don’t study)
a vague vibe/theme/genre (or a specific one)
whether you want a short (5 songs), medium (10 songs), or long (15 songs) playlist
(also whether or not you want me to post the playlist on here)
and I will make a playlist based on your request! There’s no other requirements or limits on how many I’ll make, but I will do them in order of when I receive the requests, so sooner is better than later.
💕 Thank you all so much for being here on this milestone, and I hope to keep seeing you all in the years to come! 💕

Its been a while
Hey, long time no see, I’m still alive, and I’ve realized I’ve let my different social media slip a lot, which I can assure you wasn’t intentional, well . . . partially, I’ve come to a few conclusions since my last post, nearly two  years ago, firstly the scope of my project Fade was impossibly big, even to get the first season done on my own would eat up years of my life, and almost no-one would see it in the end. Secondly I’d been juggling Fade, college work, other projects and personal stuff, and it all became overwhelming in the end, so I took a break, focusing only on college work. that break has now become two years, and while I still very much want to keep working on Fade, distance and hindsight are really highlighting how foolish it is hinge so much of my time and future on something so massive.
Third thing I realized is that I’m just straight up bad at collaborating and being in charge, I work to please everyone and plan for everything, and when I miss something it shatters myself esteem. Along with Fade I was working on a small project and honestly it didn’t go well. I was inspired by a classmate’s story and wanted to make something with a similar theme, my story would have actually been similar to Cartoon Saloon’s Wolfwalkers film, but I made the foolish mistake of telling them, they made the argument that they would like to see their story made without changes, and from that point on I never really felt in charge. Now let me make it clear, I don’t blame this person for sticking to their idea, it the situation was reversed, I might have said the same, but it illustrates my own inability to stand up for myself, and its something I really need to fix moving forward.
I’ve also realized I need to incubate myself and my skills, I’ve finally realized how much I don’t know, and how little I can do with just myself, I’m in a unique position with this pandemic, I’m able to work and practice solely on my craft, and in the last six months I’ve noticed a big improvement, and compared to the early Fade concepts I’m leagues above where I was, but I’m still far from going professional. As for working with other people, I’m stumped still, but I’ve had some insight: Money. A budget shifts the dynamic a huge amount, its something to offer people, and its a type of leverage, because its tangible it can be used, so it is encouraged not to waste it, but this leads to the part that is stumping me:
How do I get a budget?
Well I’m going to try be smart about it, I’m working on a much smaller project, a small, self contained story. I’m going to save up a small amount, to advertise a Kickstarter pre-campaign, this is mostly just going to directing people to a small website with a landing video and an email form, so people can sign up for updates, then once I’ve got the pre-production done, I’ll make a Kickstarter for the short, if that's successful, I’ll use that budget for hiring animators and artists, and save a little for the next ad campaign. At least, that's the theory to it. From the research I’ve done it becomes easier every time you do well, so its really just staying at the table long enough.
Lastly is a problem I’ve realized I’ve never really admitted online, I’m terrified of social media, I love looking through it, but the idea putting stuff out there and getting back what feels like blank stares kinda sucks, or worse getting back hate, I released an animatic trailer for Fade a while back, and it got a genuinely vitriolic hate comment, this guy was offended by the quality of the video. Now its clear the guy had no clue what an animatic was, and he might have been just jealous, or tolling, or just misdirecting problems in his life at the video, and I’ve been playing it off for laughs, but it stuck with me. The main reason I like making stories is to try connect with other people, not validating myself, to get an emotion that I feel and plant it into someone else, I feel that endeavor is one of the most important things in the world, and that comment kinda shows a failure to do that. That video was  unrelatable, it was confusing to him, alien, and I felt like a failure because of that, it still hurts even though logically its just a bored dude on the internet, and since then I’ve gotten plenty of praise. but it still worries me that I’ll get more people like that. I’m also worried about the speed of my work, everything I do is pieces of a bigger work, so I’m reluctant to throw them online because its not the whole picture, but to build a following I need to be posting stuff regularly, and I just don’t have the mental endurance to do that daily, so I’m at a little bit of a loss on how to proceed on that front. Maybe this is a way of starting?
Ah, I didn’t mean for this to get negative, I’ll give some positive news too, I’ve finished college, and I did a final year film, well, its more of a proof of concept, but I’m proud of it: https://vimeo.com/424300549 I’d love to pitch the show to somewhere like Netflix, I have no idea where go to even apply but the solution is just more networking in the industry, I’m confident I’ll find a platform for it at some point. I’m also working on another pitch for Animation Dingle’s big pitcher event, which I’m hoping to get to this year, I don’t want to post anything about it just yet, but I will once the event is over because I’m really pleased with where its going! Other than that things are all quiet with me, if you read through all this I’m really grateful! hopefully it won’t be another two years before my next post! ~~Marc out

Above are the Images I did this summer that I’m really happy with!
So as a TLDR for the post,
-Animation Compilation below, has OC's in it, whom are credited to the creators.
-My favorite images from this summer that I did, either for commissions or fun, are in the comments with an additional image showing all the character models I made or tweaked in the past year, which tallied to 68.
-I'm fixing the storyboards for Jade's trailer to begin production once I get to college.
-JADE is moving from Remnant to a new world of my creation. They aren't RWBY OC's anymore. Answers to any questions you might have are possibly located in the FAQ part of the post that I'm sharing.
-I'm not going to stop posting here, since it does not break any rules, and have spoken with an admin on a schedule. I will be able to keep my weekly schedule since it is only one post per week, and isn't diverting the group from it's primary focus. But if I do stop posting, then most likely I broke a rule.
Hello Everyone!
So I’ve reached the last week of my summer break before going back to College!  So I’ve got a couple of things to get to.
First of all, I have compiled all the animations from this year that have been posted on this page, but not on my youtube channel.  The finish date has been posted.  I’ve also attached the 3 Commission Animations that I did for Recent Commissions!
https://youtu.be/h0iylBttnTY
Second, here is all the quality images that I have completed this summer!  It contains plenty of OC’s that I did for either Commissions, or as fan art for my friends!  The OC’s and their owners shall be listed below!  On top of that, I did a tally image of all the models I have worked on, or modeled from scratch and rigged in the past year.  That tally reached 68 Models.  Now those OC’s will be listed with their owners below if they do not belong to me.  Now if we were to count models that weren’t rigged I technically have over 100 models, because of some fun requests I did around a year ago.
Thirdly, I am currently working on fixing up the storyboards to be easier to read in terms of poses and action.  I will be finishing up the storyboards over the next few days, and should be able to finish the animatic before going back to College.
Finally, next week I will be releasing a poster to announce the production beginning on Jade’s Trailer.  Now with that will be a visual reveal of something that’ll change how the series functions.  JADE is jumping ship from Remnant, and will no longer be considered “RWBY OC’s”, instead they are going to be characters in a world that I am currently creating.  It isn’t fully completed in concept, but the events of Jade’s trailer will be easy to pin in this world since the concepts of this new world that’ll be present in Jade’s trailer have already been planned out.  There are several reasons for me doing this, firstly, I really adore these characters and would love to make the series to it’s full completion, but unless I work for RT, they green light the show (Which their internship pages have illustrated that they are not looking for a new show concept, unless if you are a higher-up in the company, which is fair), and I’m given creative control on the project, I cannot create the show as into the future as I would love to, while being able to sustain myself without simply infringing on copyright.  Which is, again, a fair point.  Secondly, I am doing this because it would allow me to be more creative with the world, and improve my writing abilities by forcing myself to do research overload, a task I find oh so exciting.  Thirdly, it would probably be more appropriate for the series in reflection, because all drafts of any script or outline for JADE since beginning making RWBY OC’s in general involved me conceptualizing new ideas for Remnant ranging from locales, cultures, aura systems, and aura abilities making those drafts’ only attachment to RWBY seem to be the color team name, aura, dust, and semblance.
To address some questions before they do come up, as they are fair points.
-I will be doing my best to separate JADE from RWBY as much as possible.  In fact, their team name was never based on a color in it’s origin, it’s actually an inside-joke amongst them.  So if I decide to keep the joke, I’ll keep the name, but if I don’t then the name will vanish.  As a warning for the future of this update, I will be using the Remnant counterparts to the systems in this world.
-The “Aura” of the world, will not feature a primary defense mechanism, and is currently being conceptualized as an idea that groups people into various classes of combat, and life in general, since it can be used to determine personality.  I’m going to try to enhance upon that so I can differentiate between this culture and Remnant’s.
-The “Dust” of the world, will not have lead to man’s creation, will not be explosive, will have additional types that will differentiate it from dust, and will need further tweaking to properly distinguish it.
-The “Semblance” of this world will not be based on a personality trait, but a flaw, since a theme of the story will be about self betterment, or achieving perfection.  So the power is designed to counter-act that key weakness in their character, forcing them to begin to change, but not get the instant answer.
-The “Grimm” of this world, are different in every way I can imagine, as they were designed to, and will take on a more natural approach, as opposed to silhouette-like designs.
-Characters will not be named after colors, there will be birth reasons for it that aren’t related to colors.  Sadly, this is an idea I only realized was an issue recently, so I will be making an effort to properly think this through so it won’t be subject to an accusal of plagiarism.
-All-in-All I’m going to try to make the world as far from Remnant as possible.
If you decide to stop supporting this project, I hope I’ve entertained you with my Animation, and that you have a fantastic life, and if you haven’t already, go watch NYON Episode 2, it’s just so much fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nXYbPGqVjA&t=447s

#staygigantic : The Gigantic Fan Appreciation Project. [ PEOPLE WANTED ]
I love Gigantic. The characters, the art, the fact that it was 3rd person, something I excel in [ I cant platform for shit ] is what kept me grinding, blasting, summoning, and rolling into the game for 95 hours.
Tumblr media
Seeing all the emotions that people are posting here, I know I’m not the only one. This is why I’m here to propose #staygigantic .  Big kudos to Aztrekz on Twitter for coming up with the hashtag .
This is a multi-peron, multi-faceted effort.  Creators, Gamers and Appreciators are welcome aboard this ship. Just as Motiga was so passionate about their game that they were willing to work on it without getting paid, I’m  willing to try anything to show everyone that there is an audience and we want this game to continue.
Gigantic deserves to stay.
Skylent Games made a video about it a few days ago talking about Gigantic Being Dead On Arrival. [ You can watch it here ] , and while I couldn't agree with much , he did say something that caught my attention.
“People latch onto games for their own reasons. It doesn't always have to be game play.”
And its true. While there are some games I would never play on my own accord [ Dead Space and FNAF for me ] , there are other aspects of them that I love and always make me excited to see.
If you’re on the Same boat with Gigantic, please help our efforts to show our appreciation.
If you Fell in Love with Gigantic because of the art / You’re a Creator :
Animate or make Animatics : Make a couple about your favorite characters. Why you love them. If  you play with them, How do you build them up? What interesting stories or fan theories do you have about them?
Skin Ideas : Pick your favorite Hero and come up with Some skins. The Last Update had A Skin Theme Heart of The Grove, which was spring and flora themed. I’d like to come up with a Passionate Drive for #staygigantic ‘s Skin Theme. More information will be posted soon.
Map Ideas :  We have the Desert, Ruins, Abandoned Ice Ship and A Forest. Wlhat landscape would you have loved to see?
Creature Ideas : Make New skins for Current Creatures   [ Drake, Cyclops, Bloomer,  Ceberus , Obelisk ] .  Can you think of another creature to make?
If you fell in Love with Gigantic because of the Music/  You’re a Musician  :
Remixes :  Make new music that involves the original Gigantic Soundtrack. You can find tracks on Gigantic’s Soundcloud , as well as voice clips from Characters.
Make New Music : If you feel some music doesn't fit a map, make some of your own! If you feel like there would be a track that would fit a new map , please make it too.
If you love with Gigantic for the Lore / You’re a Writer   :
Make Stories: What do you think will happen to Characters after the war? Do you think some team up and go on more adventures or live quiet lives? Who would go and try and start another war? Tell stories that would spark interest for the game!
Share your headcannons: We have a submit button. Tell me what you thought of how  Heroes were when they weren't on the battlefield.
Write letters to other companies : An important one. Let PWE and Motiga know how much Gigantic has affected your life. Did it make you more creative? Did you avoid PC games before this game out? What drew you to Gigantic and how would you feel when its gone? Please, keep it tasteful. Know that, even if they dont chagne their minds, they would love to hear that they made some sort of impact with you.
BONUS: Dont be afraid to write letters to concept artists, Animators  and Musicians that helped make Gigantic what is is!
Write / Tweet to big Gamers : [ Suggested by @littlegiganticthings ] other Youtubers who havent played Gigantic are missing out. If you know of a youtube gamer who likes Shooters / MOBAs or stories with big art, tell them about Gigantic. I’m sure if enough people tell them they’d be willing to give it a try.
If you loved Gigantic for the Gameplay and you Record your Games :
Create Compilations : Your Best of the Best. Who’s your go to Hero and why. Be sure to talk about this blog, the other Gigantic media [ Twitter, Reddit, etc ] and get people involved with #staygigantic.
Best Builds for Characters: How do you like to build up your Hero. What secrets do you like to use when playing?
Speak about your love for Gigantic: This works well with both video or podcasts. Just sit and be open about how you loved the game. you’re welcome to talk about everything, good or bad.
What can be done for Gigantic :  Plea to Other Gaming Companies to Pick up from Perfect World.  Blizzard  is a good bet. Also Nintendo – The Switch Store has a lot of indie games [ Can you say Switch Port?! ].
And you’re not a part of any of these categories but still love Gigantic [ Casual Player who uses the Internet ] :
KEEP PLAYING AND TELL OTHERS. I know your heart is hurting hearing the news but they need us more than ever. Keep playing. Keep showing support. let others still know about this game. Ive seen so many people just sit and say “whats the point?” . DONT GIVE UP!
Share Tags on twitter , facebook , tumblr, reddit, discord, and twitch :  #gogigantic AND  #staygigantic .
Reblog anything Gigantic-Related that you see and enjoy. [ make sure to use tags #gogigantic and #staygigantic ]
Let others know about this amazing game and why you love it.
Write letters to Perfect World Entertainment: WHY DO YOU LOVE GIGANTIC?! Why it should stay? Why do you think its absolutely uncessary to get rid of an already good game?
I cannot guarantee any of this will work. But, doing nothing will result in pure failure. Also, we all benefit from a little treasure trove of fans making something beautiful.
Who’s with me? You can submit stuff through the Submit Link. If you wish to keep it anonymous, just say so and ill accommodate. I’ll see you on the airship! <3

so... updates on my animatics:
buckle up for a long rant... O.O
BNHA animatic: this one’s depressing guys. My laptop has been having issues storing my files for photoshop, and even though I had it set to autosave if it reset itself, it failed to save a TON of progress I made ONCE AGAIN, and legit weeks of work was lost to the void. Some of the work that I was proudest of was lost. Work that I ACTUALLY felt proud of, is just... gone. I’m sharing that loss with losing an actual friend to suiside just earlier this week. I want to be honest with you guys- normally, when something like this happens, I sink into a really deep feeling of hopelessness involving a lot of self-hate and self-harm. But after losing my friend, I’m shockingly finding it easier to tell myself to not fall into that this time round. It’s not what she would have wanted for me, and it puts losing the work into actual an actual perspective that, yes, it sucks, but it’s not a person. It can start over again. It won’t be the same, and it will take time, but it has a second chance. People don’t get that with their lives. So I’m not giving up on it, but it’s not going to have that quick update like I’ve been hoping to give you guys.
ROTG animatic: I want to end on a happier note. I’m finding more motivation to work on this one recently. Rotg always seems to come back into my life when I need hope and something to believe in, and rn is a good time for that. This one’s art style is really complicated (thanks past-me -_-), which is the main reason for the looooong update. That, AND I’ve had to re-work some OCs that join the party, simply because I keep coming up with new designs and ideas for them as the story in my head progresses. :P I’m working on this one on my desktop computer with a drawing pad (a bit harder to use then my laptop, which I can draw right on the screen with, but I’m getting better with it) to prevent any file damage from my laptop.
Other WIPs: I have a couple things in mind... :) Because I’ve been grieving my friend, my mind hasn’t really been too much in the ‘fandom-zone’, but I’d like to start posting other art and stuff for fun when I start to get back into it. Mostly bnha stuff but hey, hyperfocus wants what hyperfocus wants. ADHD always finds a way to pull me in a million different directions O.o So keep an eye out for the future-

DEAR GOD... IT’S COMIC-CON
Welcome, one and all, to the biggest Pony news day of the year!
For those of you who maybe haven’t been following the fandom closely around Comic-Con in previous years, the community has come to expect news, clips, animatics, even full trailers! Lucky for those of us without the necessary pocket change, every spoilerific tidbit is live-blogged for our enjoyment by our friends at Equestria Daily, and the clips released afterwards online by Hasbro.
So, expect spoilers below the break with commentary and hyper fangirling! (Note: This post will be updated as clips and more news come out)
NEWS! CLIPS! SOME OTHER THIRD THING!
My Little Pony: The Movie
Two sneak peaks and a SONG were shown! I’ll update the post when they’re released online. There was also an intro video to the panel where the cast of the movie talked a tiiiny bit about their characters (we’ll hopefully see that online, too).
youtube
The song was sung by Rainbow Dash and Captain Celeano (the pirate birb), and it’s a song called “Time to be Awesome” sung to the pirates to rally them into rebellion against the Storm King.
Sneak peek #1 was about the mane 6 leaving Equestria for the first time heading south, and sneak peek #2 was about the Storm King using some kind of potion to essentially video chat with Commander Tempest.
They couldn’t spoil too much more of the movie after that, but the panelists were prompted to use one word to describe something about the movie:
“"Broken." "Musical." "Spongecake." "One small thing." (Okay, Pinkie.) "Therapy." (Aw, 'Shy.) "Not a big enough par--" "Granny, how'd you get here?" "Flushed," said Rarity. "Windmill," says AJ. "AWESOME." "Festival," Ms. Sparkle.” (from EQD)
Tumblr media
Here were a few screenshots and pictures displayed at the MLP Booth
My Little Pony Season 7
Surprisingly, they didn’t show off any real clips for season 7 or reveal much info at the panel, but if you’ve been following pony news in the past few days (AND Friday night!), we got some stuff that’s really exciting!
So, we’ll get the old stuff out of the way first: if you don’t know, we have most of the summaries for season seven and you can read those here. Season 7 part 2 is set to premiere August 5th with two amazing episodes, Discordant Harmony and The Perfect Pear. With Fame and Misfortune on the 12th, Triple Threat on the 19th, and Campfire Tails airing on the 26th!
That last one is especially important, because we now know it’s going to tie into the first arc of the Legends of Magic comic line!
There’s two short trailers with action-y clips out already:
youtube
and an extended version:

But even more than that, we know the Legends of Magic comics tie into the finale, as well!!!
The 7th issue of Legends of Magic, set to come out in October, “ties into the finale” and with an Avengers-like storyline to boot: “You’ve met the most legendary ponies in Equestria’s history… now find out how they first came together to battle an unstoppable evil!”
Exactly how that story ties into the finale remains to be seen, but this is the most well-integrated the show has EVER been with its comic line. Oh, and as someone whose been following the Legends of Magic comic line and getting more and more invested (it’s one of the best arcs they’ve ever done), I can say that you won’t need to read the comics to enjoy and understand what’s going on.
It’s excellent, top-quality bonus material that tells you stories after the important ones that are talked about in Campfire Tails, but both the comics themselves and it seems the episodes of the show will be able to stand on their own.
Oh, and for the record: season 8 was confirmed long ago (as was Discord’s inclusion), but a few days ago Daniel Ingram teased that he was working with a very talented singer for season 8. So, there’s a lot on the horizon!
UPDATE: This isn’t from Comic-Con per se, but the news just dropped about the episode titles for the last three episodes of the season!
Episode 24: Uncommon Bond Episode 25: Shadow Play Part 1 Episode 26: Shadow Play Part 2
Now here’s what’s cool about the season finale title (aside from the fact that it’s just objectively cool): there’s a few options for who that could be.
A few days ago Discovery Family announced the second half of the season, in which they described a few things:
“Throughout the second half of the season, Pharynx learns that love is a strength and not a weakness, Twilight Sparkle battles the Pony of Shadows, famous author A.K. Yearling teases a new novel, the Cutie Mark Crusaders learn that nothing is impossible with courage and strength, and much more!” (x)
Tumblr media
The identity of which is still a big mystery...
Equestria Girls
No actual news for EQG, I’m afraid, but they did make some jokes in the Q&A portion that CONFIRM MY DAMN HEADCANONS SO I’M TAKING IT AS CANON UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE YOU CAN’T STOP ME
Q: Any chance Celestia is Sunset Shimmer's mother? Meghan: There is NOW! We may need you to sign some papers.
VALIDATION! SWEET, SWEET VALIDATION!
OKAY, BUT IF YOU KNOW ME YOU KNOW THE MOTHER-DAUGHTER-LIKE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN TEACHERS AND THEIR STUDENTS IN THIS SHOW GIVE ME LIFE.
Q: Why doesn't Twilight write to the Princess anymore? Tara Strong: She uses email. She's a great texter. I dunno. Meghan McCarthy: That's my fault, that we stopped doing that. We felt she evolved as a character and her relationship with Celestia was changing, so she didn't have a need to update her in that way. Mike Vogel: More time to spend with her daughter, Sunset.
THEY ACKNOWLEDGED IT. EVEN IF IT WAS A JOKE, THEY ACKNOWLEDGED IT.
Also, there are three kinds of people in this world, apparently.
Q: Is Sunset ever going back to the pony world? Meghan McCarthy: ... yes. Mike Vogel: For a three-day weekend.
To visit her mom, obviously...
Q: Will Discord change if he goes through the portal? Meghan McCarthy: Oooh. He would change. That's just science. Cathy Wesluck: All his parts would just fall off.
So Discord would actually change going through the portal. Into what, we may never know, but at least we know he’s not immune.
It would be funny if his multiple parts just changed into different parts, though. Like, the translation process is still one-for-one, so he’s basically the same structure with different animals.
UPDATE: And for those wondering, it’s been confirmed that there’s more EQG on the way by Big Jim on Twitter:
Tumblr media
We know for a fact there’s at least two new music videos coming out sometime this year because they were leaked in Russian, but at least we know there’s more EQG beyond that in 2018!
IDW Comics
In addition to the crazy things going on with the Legends of Magic line, IDW previewed a few pages from the Movie Prequel line of their comics: this time, Captain Celeano!
Tumblr media
Much like the Legends of Magic comics, these seem to be smaller stories that give us a little background on the new characters, but won’t be necessary reading for the movie.
There’s also not a ton of reports out about what was actually said during the panel, but that might be because IDW had other brands to focus on presenting (Star Trek, Transformers, etc.).
Overall + Other Convention News
So, that’s about it for SDCC 2017, and we got a few great things, but if that wasn’t enough to whet your appetite, don’t worry too much.
Hasbro’s first ever convention, HasCon (... yes that’s really what they went with), is set for September 8th-10th with a panel line-up that already has me drooling:
The Voices of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Have you ever wondered what it's like to be the voice behind a pony? Straight from the pony's mouth, learn about what it takes to bring iconic characters to life with just a script and a mic.

First Look at My Little Pony Season 8! The adventures of the Mane 6—Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, and Applejack—continue with the 8th season of the beloved My Little Pony Series in 2018. Renowned storyteller, screenwriter, and lyricist Meghan McCarthy will join fans to present the first look the Season 8 premiere exclusively at HASCON!
And yes, I realize the irony of putting this section into a post about SDCC, but I do it for a good reason. Normally, SDCC is the biggest Pony news day of the year, but that’s just not the case now that Hasbro can dedicate 45 minutes EACH to the main show, Equestria Girls, and the Movie!
This is especially important (and relevant to this post) because the decision to make the SDCC MLP panel just about the movie was a last minute thing. They had things about the remainder of season 7 and EQG that they were prepared to share, but were probably told to hold off on it because of HasCon.
So, I just wanted to let you know this won’t be the last post like this this year, and that there’s even more exciting news on the horizon.
If you need more pony RIGHT NOW (which is my constant state of being), you could always take a look at my editorials or episode reviews! Here, have an end slate because pretty pictures:

ATOMI’S FAQ
Before sending a message, be sure to check here. Your questions may have already been asked by someone else.
If you send me a message that has already been answered here in the FAQ, it will be ignored and deleted.
About my blog:
This blog is both my personal blog and art blog. Here I’ll answer questions, post updates, and post art. Everyone now and then, I may reblog something.
Commission page:
It’s right here!
Boneheads related:
What are the Boneheads?
Basically, the Boneheads is both an AU (alternate universe), and a series of comics centered around the idea that skeletons from different walks of life and different franchises, will mingle and interact with each other. The comics themselves focus on:
Manny Calavera (Grim Fandango)
Sir Daniel Fortesque (MediEVIL)
Lewis Pepper (Mystery Skulls Animated)
Manolo Sanchez (Book of Life)
Jack Skellington (The Nightmare Before Christmas)
Brook (One Piece)
The group also has two honorary members, Sans and Papyrus (both from Undertale). Basically what that means is that whenever the situation calls/addresses the group as a whole, Sans and Papyrus will be with the group. Otherwise, they’re not around most of the time, unless the message involves them. Any other interactions with the main group won’t involve the entire group.
Can ( Insert name here) be a part of the group?
The answer is no. At this time, I’m not adding any more members to the group or honorary group. My reason for this is because I don’t want the comics to become crowded and unfocused.
What about a cameo?
At some point I’ll add other skeletons in the form of a cameo, but I don’t know when, and that doesn’t mean cameos can apply to any kind of character. Bottom line, if I don’t want a character to appear with the boneheads, they’re not going to.
Do the Boneheads have their own ask blog?
As of right now, no. At some point, I do have plans of moving the comics to a different blog. For now though, the comics can be found on my blog under this tag:
#boneheads
Can I send in a message asking the boneheads something?
At the moment, no. Due to how many messages I still need to answer for the boneheads,  bonehead-related questions are on a message hiatus. If you wish to ask me a question about the boneheads, I will answer it the best I can. Otherwise, your message will be ignored and deleted.
When will the next boneheads comic come out?
When it’s done. I don’t have a set schedule for the comics, so I don’t have a specific release date. I ask that you please be patient, as I’m the only one working on them, and I’m trying to get them done as fast as I can.
Can I make fan art/ fan fiction/ etc. for the boneheads?
Of course! I originally started making these comics for fun (I still do), so I see no reason why you can’t have a little fun yourselves. And if you feel like sharing, be sure to send me a link.
Content related:
What kind of art to you make?
Mostly Digital.  The kinds of content I tend to make are sketches, comics, fanart, illustrations, and storyboards. Every now and then I’ll make an animatic or an animation.
Which fandoms are you a part of?
This is always a weird one for me to answer. Whenever I talk about what fandoms I’m in, I’m mostly referring to what shows/video games/movies/ that I’m currently interested in. Because outside of that, I really don’t consider myself all that invested in a fandom community. I’m happy to talk about the stuff I like, but I mostly stay away from the community as a whole.
Anyways, for stuff that I like, gosh there’s a lot. Off the top of my head, my current interests are:
skeletons, MSA, pokemon, Wander over Yonder, Steven Universe, My little Pony, GravityFalls, a few anime, Megaman, Disney, Over the Garden Wall, Undertale, and Sonic the Hedgehog, and many, many more.
Can you draw__________?
Most of the time, the answer is going to be no.  This is because I’m working on a lot of different things at once, and thus, don’t always have the time to make artwork for that request. If you’d like, I’d be more than happy to work on your request if you would be willing to commission me for it.
Can you please draw Lewnolo?
No. A thousand times no. For those of you not in the know, Lewnolo is the name of the ship for Lewis Pepper and Manolo Sanchez.  Let me make this clear. I do not ship them. I don’t dislike them, per say, but I have no interest in the ship and don’t wish to create artwork for it. I mention this ship in particular, because it’s the one I get asked about the most. But as long as I’m talking about ships, under normal circumstances, I will not draw shipping artwork for ships I don’t like.
But, you’ve made Lewnolo artwork before! Why won’t you do it now?
Let me ask you this. WHEN did I make that artwork? Cause I can tell you. Anytime I’ve ever made Lewnolo artwork, it was during a challenge called the Kiss Meme Challenge. The challenge involved someone sending in a number with the description of a type of kiss, and two people or a ship attached to the message. I only had a few objections to what I would and would not do; otherwise, I made artwork for a bunch of different ships, despite my own personal feelings. Lewnolo was one of those ships that I was indifferent to. Also, if you go back and read the tags for the artwork that was made for the Kiss Meme, you’ll notice how it’s tagged under “kiss meme”, or something along those lines. You will never find the Lewnolo artwork, or any artwork that was made during the kiss meme under the boneheads tag, because I don’t consider it a part of those comics. The Kiss Meme art only pertains to the Kiss Meme. Nothing more. So there.
If you really want me to draw Lewnolo artwork, you either wait until I do another art challenge when you can send a ship in as a request, or you commission me to draw it.
What about if you draw (insert different ship)?
I’m gonna say no to this, too. I have ships that I like, sure. But there’s a time and a place for it, and I have no interest in creating artwork for any ship I don’t feel invested enough in.
Again, if you want it, wait for another art challenge, or commission me.
If you send me a request for Lewnolo, it will be ignored and deleted. If you continue to do this (anonymously or not), I WILL BLOCK YOU. You have been warned.
Do you like Creepypasta? What about SCP Foundation?
Not really. No. I’ve heard of some of the more well-known ones before, but I don’t go out of my way to search for them.
Do you draw NSFW?
No. This one isn’t really a Frequently Asked Question, but I’m saying what my stance is on NSFW now.
Can you watch/listen/read (insert content here)?
If you can provide a link for me, then sure thing!
Do you have a tag for your artwork?
Sure do! My artwork is under:
#atomi’s art tag
Can we submit stuff to you?
I don’t have a submit box, but that might change in the future. For now, if you want me to look at something, please send me a link.
Do you do RP (role-play)?
No, I don’t. This is not a rp blog.
Do you have a P.O. box?
No, I can’t afford one. Sorry about that. ^^;
Can I do a voice dub for one of your comics?
Go for it! Just be sure to credit me, and provide a link to either my blog, or the orginal page where you got the comic from. I would also like a link to the finished product, please!
Personal-related questions:
Where do you live?
I live in the United States. I don’t wish to say more than that.
What’s your name?
You can call me Mel. I’m also fine with being addressed as Atomi.
Can I get your skype?
I only give out my skype to my friends and family.
Can I make artwork of your characters/your muse?
By all means, go right ahead! Just make sure to credit me and send me a link.
(page is subjected to change, and will change when the answer to an FAQ changes or if I add something new)

Mastery Journal 12.4.2
Mastery: Personal Development & Leadership (Month 1) – During Month 1 of the program, we read Mastery by Robert Greene. This was very inspirational reading and left me feeling enthusiastic about the program. The main lesson I took from the reading was that the road to mastery is not one that is formulaic. Even the great masters that came before us hit bumps in the road and faced obstacles and set-backs. Masters are made, not born. Even those born with genius level talents had to work hard to achieve their mastery. Also, the road to mastery is all about finding yourself; discovering your true desires and motivations. I learned to put my goals into perspective this month with tasks like the Mastery Timeline and Brainstorm/Research worksheet.
Defining Client Needs (Month 2) – During Month 2 we began brainstorming/researching designs for our city logos. We also began to do peer critiques starting this month. The feedback from instructors and classmates was very beneficial and helped me to look at my artwork objectively. This month I learned new techniques to overcome artist’s block and learned new ways to approach designing.
Brand Development (Month 3) – This month we digitized our best logo sketches from the previous month, we produced mood boards, we continued peer critiques and completed SWOT (Strenghts, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) exercises. This month taught me what a brand truly is. Branding is much more than just a logo. The brand carries the value of the company. The brand is everything that embodies the company. The brand is the public image that acts as a representative for the company.
Effective Copy Writing (Month 4) – This month we produced ad comps for a non-profit organization. We developed personas which allowed us to get in the minds of our audience/consumer. This is a great tool for companies to use, so that they can determine what the best imagery and language is to persuade their audience to act. We also worked on developing new/improved taglines for the non-profits. This month taught me the importance of copy writing as a designer, because many designers get tasked with writing the copy in their designs, as not all agencies/clients will employ a separate person to write. It is critical for designers to be versatile, diverse and adaptable in this field.
Design Research (Month 5) – This month we produced web design comps for a made-up non-profit organization. The objective of the website was to not only promote a charity concert, but educate people about the goals of the organization (saving sea turtles). We came up with three mood boards and chose the strongest of our designs to be the base for our final web comp. Working on mood boards and comps in previous months definitely helped prepare me for this project. This month taught me the importance of having a strong rationale, or reason behind design choices, and having the research to back up your claims. This makes it easier, as a designer, to express your ideas to your clients. You’ll seem more credible and reliable with well-well-researched rationales. This month I also became reacquainted with design elements such as informational hierarchy, contrast, shape, line, etc. All of these elements of design help designers convey our messages more clearly to our audience, in ways that are usually universally understood.
Organizational Structures (Month 6) – This month we learned about different animation techniques. We got to animate subjects of our choice. I chose to use Kinetic Typography to animate the words of a poem I wrote many (many) years ago. We used Story journals, boards and maps to help us stay organized and truly tell compelling stories that the audience could connect with. This month definitely proved to be a learning curve for me as I was not very familiar with applications like After Effects. Where I felt like I had shortcomings, I was detrained to overcome them in the following months.
Design Strategies (Month 7) – This month we came up with an 8-week timeline for our thesis project. I learned to prioritize projects by level of important and relevance, which helped keep me from being overwhelmed. We also had periodic postings that showed our progress. Instructor and peer critiques along with the frequent check-ins helped me stay on task. Some techniques I learned from the previous month came in handy while I animated my logo sting. Sketching, animatics and story boarding were useful tools during this month.
Design Integration (Month 8) – This month we continued the project started in the previous months. I kept making strides in my animation and acquired new competencies in applications like After Effects and Keynote. My confidence was improving compared to month 6 when we were first introduced to animation techniques. In addition to my logo sting, I animated my web comps and made a promotional video which featured parallax imagery. This month I wrote one of my favorite research papers about Innovation where I challenged traditional means of education.
Multi-Platform Delivery (Month 9) – This was our last month of development for our thesis project. By the end of this month, it was nice to see all the progress I made on the Travel Campaign since the start of Month 7. It was interesting to see how it developed and grew from just the small idea to animate my logo. This month I also wrote my Inspiration Essay where I argued that there are no original ideas and wrote about methods designers should take to try to avoid plagiarism, even unintentionally.
Measuring Design Effectiveness (Month 10) – This month taught me the importance of testing a project while also teaching me how to word and develop questions which test the effectiveness of design choices. I had mixed feelings about the results at the end of the month, however. I was able to see my shortcomings and where I made mistakes when developing my questions. For example, vetting my test subjects before hand would have saved me time and I would not have had to devote so much time to demographic questions that had little or nothing to do with testing the effectiveness of the design. I learned that more planning should go into developing questionnaires for measuring design effectiveness.
Presentation of Design Solution (Month 11) – This month we were tasked with making a Wix website where we would showcase our strongest projects and demonstrate our claim to mastery. At first I was worried I wouldn’t have enough content or substantiated research to argue my claim to mastery. However, as I continued to populate my website with more of my work, I began to appreciate my journey in the program. In addition to the thesis presentation, we also improved our portfolios and posted reflections. The improvements to the portfolios is important because it showcases my work in a more professional light for potential employers.
Professional Practice (Month 12) – This month we did a lot as we prepared to exit the program. For one, we researched many different things that could land designers in legal trouble. From there we found solutions and alternatives that we could employ in order to avoid questionable situations. We also updated our resumes and cover letters, and learned techniques that attract hiring managers’ attention. Lastly, we designed experience maps which mapped out our journeys in the program, and explored what we did, felt, and thought throughout the whole experience. This last month left me feeling enthusiastic again, much like the first month did, because I am excited to see what the future holds in store for me. Researching jobs in my field and seeing the credentials they look for, left me feeling confident in my abilities and grateful for my previous experiences. With a couple of more years in the field I can start applying and qualifying for higher level positions. I feel very prideful when I look back over the course of this program. I’m extremely proud of my body of work and I’m glad I did not get too down, even in the moments when I felt overwhelmed and was doubting myself. I’m glad I kept pushing through and I’ve finally reached this moment.
In regards to my Thesis Presentation:
Month 1 taught me the importance of setting goals. One goal I set that month was improving my animation skills. Over the course of the program I did just that, and it proved to be crucial for my thesis project and presentation. A personal triumph I achieved this month was the Video Presentation. I wrote a script, memorized it and did several takes. Public speaking and speaking on camera makes me nervous, but I was glad I was able to overcome my shyness. Brushing up on my video editing skills was also helpful for later months in the program.
Month 2 taught me the importance of research in the earlier stages of designing. This helped me with every design project in subsequent months. Drawing sketches and doing word maps are techniques I’ll take with me beyond the program
Month 3 taught me that all details are important, even the small details. Small mistakes tend to add up and bring down the overall quality of the design. Developing a brand came in handy while developing the Travel Campaign for Marrakesh (which ended up being the bigger part of my thesis project.
Month 4 - The personas and ad comps were important accomplishments to me because comps weren’t things I was used to producing in the development stages of design but helped me out when producing web comps later in Month 5 and during the thesis project. The personas also came in handy when I wanted to determine who my audience was for the Travel campaign.
Month 5 - Web comps and web design research taught me what users want and don’t want to experience when visiting a website. I made sure to make my web comps for the Marrakesh campaign convenient and self-evident for my intended audience. My greatest accomplishment this month was my scrolling web comp which simulated a one-page website design.
Month 6 taught me that there is always new things to learn. I felt a little discouraged this month but after makings some breakthroughs, it left me determined to do better for the thesis project. Every part of my thesis project incorporated animation because I wanted to get better at it.
Months 7,8 and 9 taught me the importance of listening to your critiques and sticking to a plan and staying organized. My greatest accomplishments this month were my logo animation, promotional video and animated web comp. These projects proved I had acquired competencies in the things that were giving me trouble earlier in the program.
Month 10 taught me that what can be perceived as a successful design does not always translate on paper, especially if it is not tested correctly with the right group. One triumph I had during this month was my presentation of my results on Behance. I was able to design a really nice presentation despite my questionnaire having some noticeable shortcomings.
Tumblr media
My experience map is modeled after my “workspace” as I call it. It is the state I most often find myself when I’m working or studying. I put the map on graphing paper to convey the high and low points of my mastery journey.

Breaking Barriers with Barbie: An Interview with Director Cassi Simonds
Cassi Simonds started at Mainframe Studios in 2004 as a production assistant, but she wasn’t a PA for long. With talent, persistence, and elbow grease, she scaled the showbiz ladder rung by rung, all the way up to directing the second season of Barbie: Dreamhouse Adventures. She set down her current projects for a moment to chat with me about chasing passions, the Barbie people don’t know, and being really, really bad at basketball.
Andie: How did you find your way to Mainframe? Cassi: While I was in film school, I was definitely always drawn towards sound and video editing, and right out of school I started as a production assistant on film sets in live action. I was working on Smallville and I was always wondering where all the editors were hanging out. That show was shot in Vancouver but all the post work was actually done in Los Angeles, so I kind of quickly learned “Well, I might be in the wrong place here!” So I got hired at Mainframe as a production assistant and worked my way up from there into the editorial department, asking all the editors if I could hang out on my lunch breaks. Just curious- was that in the Facilities Production Assistant program? (Shoutout to the FPA Mentor/Mentee interview series!) Cassi: It wasn't quite the same back then but it was really similar jobs that we were doing, and they’ve always been so good at having mentoring. They hire PA’s knowing that they're hoping to move on to other projects. That's what's so great about the studio- they really support promoting from within. After the PA program, how did you get involved with Barbie? Cassi: I started as a junior editor that was working in the animation Avid, which is a good starting point for editorial because most of the story beats have been locked down by then and you're just updating timelines with new animation. You're sitting with an animation director and going through it shot by shot as they come in. We didn't have so many fancy computer programs like we do now, so we would actually call the animators one at a time and talk through their shot. Then I was offered a lead editor role on Barbie and the Diamond Castle. I did not feel ready at all, but I had a really great producer who pushed me to do it. With that you're dealing with actual cutting of the storyboards and working from the ground up with the director; animatic building, essentially. And so I did that for a few different direct-to-DVD projects, and then Barbie: Dreamhouse Adventures season one came up and I was the lead editor working with the editorial team of five others. Then in season two, directing came up for me. So I think I was hired here in 2004 as PA and did that for maybe a little less than a year, so by 2005 I was already editing. I think it was 2008 when I became a lead editor. And now here you are in 2018, running the whole circus! Cassi: A big part of what’s made me enjoy working at Mainframe and on Barbie productions has been the crew, all the people that I get to come and see everyday. It's the reason so many of us have been here for years; there are so many creative and passionate and skilled people here that just give it their all, and that's why I think it's been so successful and every show looks better than the last. Everyone cares so much. There are people that have been here for twenty-two years and you would think it was their first episode or season. The passion is still there. You and Barbie both chased your dream careers and found success in the workplace, so do you have advice for the other young women who are in the place you were almost fifteen years ago? Cassi: It can definitely be an intimidating industry. But I think girls just have to go after what they want to do and really push for it. I think we have to lose saying “I can do anything that a boy can do,” and just say “I can do anything, period. Doesn't matter who else is doing it. This is what I want to do.” On to the woman herself: Barbie is such an icon. Everyone has an opinion about her, but you’ve worked directly with the character for a long time. What’s it like to juggle the old stereotypes with Barbie’s modern values? Cassi: It's been interesting to be able to push some other sides of Barbie, to show the world that she’s actually a really great role model for girls. I have a five year old daughter now and I am so happy that she likes the stuff that we've done. And I feel good hitting play and knowing that she's actually going to learn some really good lessons from the show because I think we've done such a good job of making her a human. She has a small waist and she's petite, but she also- I just did an episode where she just couldn't play basketball, and she was horrible, just tripping all over the place. I can definitely relate! Cassi: So she has human feelings: she gets upset, and she gets rejected, and I think it's opened up a whole other side to Barbie. I think people are starting to really see her real personality come through. She's not perfect and she knows it, but she tries her best to help everyone around her also try their best, and that should be a positive thing. What’s been the most fulfilling part of working with Barbie for so many years? Cassi: I have to say, since I've had my daughter it’s been watching her watch our work. We always used to do screenings and kids would come, and that was the most rewarding. When you actually hear a room full of kids laughing, you say, “Okay, this is what it's all for.” I'm just so proud of Dreamhouse because I love the messages that it's sending, especially to young girls, because I think they're the ones that seem to need to hear that the most. It’s teaching young girls that it's okay to be smart and it's okay to be ambitious and to have goals. That's a good thing.
