Soo haven't read the thea sisters series for a while (Ive only remember reading the very old ones lol), but I have seen you (and maybe some people) complaint that the friendship stuff in the book is very on the nose or in your face. Is it... really that egregious in the newer books? Because I don't remember them being agresively friendship power in the older ones (aside from maybee ... the ice treasure? with the whole jealosy stuff tho they are not that aggressive).

Yeah the older ones were a lot more subtle with it, and even the most explicit example I could find (two scenes in the non-English translation of Shipwreck where Vi describes the friends as "friends worth a lifetime") was very wholesome and sweet and brought me to want to hold Violet gently in my hands and give her pats more than I already did. Ice Treasure was the girls maturely getting together to resolve a love triangle that would've torn the group apart had this been written in another series, and you have to respect that mature way of thinking.

But are they that egregious in the new books?

I wasn't intending for this sequence to sync up perfectly, but here we are. Each group of screenshots is from one book each.

Also these are from the special editions because they're the worst offenders but I don't doubt that there are some in the main series and Mouseford series but I dun wanna go find them let me live my denial fantasies--

It started off mild in Cloud Castle, when Vi does a heroic sacrifice and explains why she did it

As you can see, despite the clunky Scholastic translation, it's very wholesome and cute and you can tell how much Vi cares for the girls and how much the girls care for each other

And it's realistic!! You care for your friends, naturally you don't wanna see them get hurt (like genuinely hurt) and you wanna make sure they're okay.

A-as you can see tho in the later books it got worse... Like so much worse.

The screenshots above are in chronological order, so we have special edition books 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9, and Treasure Seekers 1 and 3 (thank god book 2 kinda doesn't have it overtly). Next part will just be rough context blurbs of each of the scenes so you have a teeny bit of context. (Context ain't savin' these scenes tho)

Book 5 is set in an underwater fantasy world where there's this Mariana's Trench-like bit of nightmare fuel called the Infinite Abyss, where you look down and magic literally sucks you down into the abyss. Because of uh... reasons that were very (and I mean VERY) poorly written in the book that I sincerely hope is just the Scholastic translators being Scholastic translators, Vi ends up looking down while crossing over it, and she and Colette get yoinked down. Yes the scene after they've recovered is the cringiest bit of dialogue I've seen in my life. There is this one cute loom scene in the book that makes sense since the loom basically allows you to make a tapestry of your happy memories and the happiness you feel from that memory, but uh friendship was tied into it so uh eeehhhhh... The happiness part already made sense, you didn't have to tie the power of friendship into it c'mon :/

Book 6 is uh, apparently even in the original Italian it was kinda meh, and I wager the scene got carried over to English about the same. They're fighting this witch wanting to conquer the Land of Flowers, and Flora does a heroic sacrifice that jus,,, the attack jus dissipates as soon as it touwches her,,, why,,? powew of fwiendship that's why,,

Book 7 is... good god I could make an entire thing about it, but I'm torn between wanting to make a Tumblr post about it or a YouTube video about this book and how underwhelming it is, because I could wax eloquent for about a half-hour about why it's so disappointing and arguably the worst of the special editions, and some cute little animations or doodles from me would make it so much more entertaining and could sidestep getting clapped by Scholastic or EdiPiemme, hopefully? I dunno, maybe when I'm less busy with school.

Anyway what's wrong with Book 7? First of all uh the dragon is a redeemed villain type of thing and even if you read the book the thing doesn't make much sense. They tried to make him a misunderstood villain thing, but too little was done to add detail to that? All the important stuff involving him was done off-screen, and the uh him freeing his fiance from her gemstone prison is yeah, you saw it up there, I'm sure. Paulina gives him words of encouragement, she rolls decently in her charisma, and boop now he's hooman again and his fiance is free, yippee

Also the fiance?

This woman right here?

Don't be fooled by that basic fairy design, this woman is the literal personification of the power of friendship trope. For what little time she spends with the girls and helps them with the obstacles they have to deal with. They need to talk to this antisocial wolf guarding the next checkpoint? That's fine, she and the wolf are childhood friends! They need to get past this impossible labyrinth cave to get a super-valuable gemstone that the inhabitants of said labyrinth cave hold very dearly? That's fine, she met one of the fairies and helped her, so they're friends! Literally power of friendship personified. Thanks, I hate it :D

Book 8 is the book that exists. It's one of the special edition books ever for me, and the only thing cool that happens there is Nicky pulling a Robin Hood archery trial. Besides that? Eeehhhh... this scene in that book isn't so bad since the characters who do the power of friendship thing are actual magic fairies in this magic world.... but at the same time the girls making comments on it is making me die inside, did I mention these girls are uni students--

Book 9 is eeehhhhhhhhh.... it's an underwhelming finale for the special editions for one, for many reasons that could garner itself a ramble here, but eeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhh.... I'm just mad at the Violet slander ngl wHY DO THEY MAKE HER THE FRIENDSHIP PROPHET I GET SHE VALUES HER FRIENDS BUT SHE'S STILL A PRACTICAL LOGICAL WOMAN IN PERSONALITY YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO HER--

I stand by the fact that Treasure Seekers as a hardcover series for Thea Stilton is really good for those who loved the older books as a kid and are coming back for nostalgia. You read the first book and it feels like you're being welcomed back to the Thea Sisters you knew and loved back in the days of seeing the cool girlboss covers of the books in your school library and spending hours reading the cool adventures they got themselves into around the world (and even outside it). I dunno if they meant is as a homage to the older books, but it felt like it when I read it.

Anyway literally the only thing sullying these books is the power of friendship monologues in book 1 and 3. The worst part of it is that Violet once again is the one saying or thinking these things and it feels so out of character and out of place, like HELLO??? Vi sweetie the only thing stopping that shady businesswoman character from holding Pam at actual gunpoint is the 6-10 age range of the books? This ain't the time for the power of friendship??? Also who gave her the friendship ball and can they please let Violet punt it at them? Book 3 is the same-- I mean in this context uh I dun wanna spoil it so uh yeah, but Vi is basically disagreeing with the villain in this conversation they're having, and literally the only thing ruining it is her saying "the power of friendship" straight up. If she said "my friends" or "my sisters", it would've been so much better-- same goes for the time Vi is talking to the girls again and they ask her what she said in the previous one-on-one convo, it would've been better if she said something cute like "friends like you"-- but we can't have nice things huh, Scholastic? (Dunno if the original Italian one has the "power of friendship" one but I sincerely hope not, and it doesn't sound like it since the original Italian intro letter of book 3 went so hard--)

Vi deserves better smh -m-

Anyway there's my rant. Yeah, it does get really egregious in the later books. Where did we go wrong :(

Hey, I started reading Robin son of Batman because of your recommendation (I literally have a print of your post on my phone to not forget lol). Honestly? One of the best things I ever read!!!

Thank you for opening my eyes! Damian has been one of my favorite characters for over a year, but I didn't read/watch much of him because of school, life (and probably an executive dysfunction in the mix).

Okay so. I call it the '6 years later' AU but technically i have Stuff Planned for all the time that passed between now and then too, so this'll be a bit longer, sorry!!

Max joining the counselor team was actually kind of a natural/gradual development?? Basically, since I can't make CC content that isn't found family Max has a shit home life, and, even if he hates to admit it at first, the three months of summer camp become his bright spot each year. David and Gwen catch on to that, but there isn't much they can do to help outside of camp - until one day Max (age 13/14ish) shows up on Gwen's doorstep because he ran away from home, 'since his parents won't care either way'. While he does return home after hiding out at Gwen's place for a weekend, this kind of kicks off a pattern of Max running away sporadically, to Gwen's, later David's, or his friends places. I could go into more detail here but. this is already long. oop.

ANYWAYS. So with Max spending basically all the time he can away from home and the summers at camp, once he ages out there's. A Bit of panic starting in him once summer gets closer again, because his Safe Place seems inaccessible, and two of his OTHER options, especially for longer stays away from home, would also be unavailable. Gwen and David notice this (it manifests in Max staying over More but Angrier) and try to find a solution. Gwen proposes the Jr Counselor idea. They introduce the idea to Max by kinda implying that workload around camp is a lot, and it'd really hurt to miss one of their most experienced campers, but... maybe, if he worked there too (well, interned. basically unpaid. but! no camp tuition!) he could help them? so they basically give Max a way to say yes without admitting that he's the one who needs camp the most. He does insult the whole thing ofc, and says like he's just doing it because he knows camp would burn down without him there ("actually, most of the fires we had were started by you...?" "shut it, david") but secretly he's really really happy. He might even thank them later that evening. Quietly. Before complaining about it preemptively. <3

WAH THATS ALREADY SUCH A WALL OF TEXT ok ill hurry up w the rest:

While most of the other campers had some rotations over the years, I don't have conk rete plans for most of them - Nikki and Neil are still Max' gang, and returned for multiple summers, if not all. This year though, Neil is busy with college prep, and Nikki is spending the summer at home because of family crisis. They still video call a lot, they're still The Gang. I have sketched designs for them, but I'm not quite happy yet.

Max at first doesn't take his role seriously, because he's basically just Back For Another Summer, but pretty quickly realises Gwen and David DO have expectations, and DO give him responsibilities. He takes a while to come around on his new relationship to the younger kids, and especially one of the youngest kids takes a liking to him, a very anxious young girl, which annoys him at first, but... well. It's a whole ~character arc~ for Max waiting to happen tbh.

Honestly, I can't remember how you met them in detail but it was something along the lines romance encounter. They saved.

The wholesome twins finished their reps that Saturday evening exiting the gym Yunho rubbing his palms on his sore knees. "I'm feeling heading to Honey pot to celebrate our workout streak. " He snorted, clearly aware of how ridiculous that sounds- "Dang, not even a pity laugh."

Yunho turned but his mini giant's attention stolen by other and what a cute other You are-Minnie bashfully ogling your slight jelly jiggle-

The extra inch on Yunho made all the difference. "Oh.." she is a little cutie.

"Woo, Honey, I'm coming. I have to walk there first." The baggage overwhelmed your arms, luxuary shopping bags for Wooyoung (Ceo/Boss/Best friend), files under your arm, and Wooyoung's coffee in one hand.

Wooyoung tsked, "Wah, I told you to let Niles drive you. That's a lot of stuff to carry, Dumpling." His slender eyes grew when the clock strike, He gasped. "You've been gone for thirty-five minutes. I'm coming to get you! stand by a landmark!" Wooyoung clicked his tongue-

"Wooyoung! I'm fine quite being a worried, dummy." You giggled, rolling your eyes.

"Cute." Mingi mumbled, embarrassed by his sudden high school crush on a complete stranger.

Yunho on the other hand, shameless would be his middle name if he had one. I don't understand how you couldn't feel the heat beaming for his stare at your shape (Even the good boys do it sometimes) . Perfect shape for my hands. He giggled, leaning on Minnie's shoulder in a sassy pose. "You should totally like talk to her."

"What-" Minnie's face drowned in crimson as fast as his adam's apple jumps.

"Dummy?! Yah! I'm definitely coming to get you now and when I get you in this office, My belt is going across your ass!" Wooyoung's anger often slips out in the oddest ways. The sound of aggressive keys rattling alarmed you he was serious. " Girls go missing damn near everyday, here and my little Dumpling is not on the menu!"

"Wooyoung, I'm fine-"

"You know what, I'm just gonna call San on you and let him handle you." Wooyoung witch laughed blast through your burning ear.

You screamed slightly, before curling into yourself. "That's not funny, Wooyoung and unprovoked too."

Sooo Choi San, Yes, The Dilf Fire Chief was heavily intoxication when he threatened Wooyoung with spanking you if he plucked his last nerve and Wooyoung (being the demon he is) loves seeing Sannie angry.

In result, You can still make out his large handprint on your bare bottom, Wooyoung now has a new favorite memory, and Mr.Choi doesn't remember a thing.

"I'm already on the way, I'm halfway there." Clouded with embrassment, You were extremely eager to the point you were absent-mindly walked into busy street.

All the while, on the other end, Wooyoung was scolding you on not paying attention and being safe.

You sighed. "You're such a worry wart-!" You squeaked being abruptly snatched by two large hands yanking you back to safety.

You were aghasted as one of the giants nearly kissed your hand as his lips aimed for your phone to say. "She's lying. She almost got ran over."

Wooyoung actually did spank you that day.

Beomgyu sighed as he walked the long stretch over the field, the paint mechanism lagging behind him and dyeing a long white streak over the grass.

He walked and walked until he saw a soccer ball sitting idly a few meters in front of him. Coming to a standstill, the boy contemplated for a moment before, with a huff, he got a running start and kicked the ball further across the field and into the bleachers.

“Was that really necessary, Gyu?” Beomgyu startled at the sound of your voice. You were leaning against the bleachers, lazy grin tugging your lips upward. “It's not the ball's fault you got detention for ditching!"

"It's unfair! How come I got detention and you didn't? You ditched, too!"

You appeared from behind the bleachers, soccer ball in hand. "That's just because I'm a better liar." You smirked, throwing the ball up into the air. Beomgyu's eyes followed the object and watched it drop to the floor with a thud, looking up to find you gone.

In their homeroom, Yeonjun was sitting with a box-opener, cutting into the pages of a math notebook he seldom used these days.

He cut what looked like a door into it, leaning against his left arm that was propped on a stack of other school books, clearly bored and heavily uninterested. His bear was sitting to the left of him, just out of his peripheral view. The burn on his right hand had already healed enough to be only barely visible, and the cut on his hand stuck out like a sore thumb. Kids had been asking about it all morning, and it was starting to piss him off. Couldn't they mind their own business?

"What are you doing? You're making a mess!"

Yeonjun scoffed, looking up at you. "Does it matter?"

This time it was your turn to scoff, moving forward to pat his shoulder sympathetically, walking off to the back of the class somewhere. "Don't come to me begging to help you clean up!"

Yeonjun rolled his eyes with a smile, continuing his carving ritual.

"Kai! Did you finish the yellow line?"

"Yeah! I'm just about done with the blue one—"

"Great!" You stood still, looking at the road with scrutinizing eyes. "You couldn't make them at least a little bit straighter?" you chastised playfully, pointing with your finger at the particularly squiggly sections of line.

Heuning Kai grinned, elbowing your shoulder playfully before standing up to his full height, checking to see how it came out. "It's really cool looking..."

You grinned from ear to ear.

“Where'd you get the idea for it, anyway?" he asked, looking up at the classroom in the distance thoughtfully. You shrugged with a “hmmph”.

"Go clean your hands before someone pins this on you," you said in a bit of a whiney voice, pushing Heuning Kai toward the outdoor bathrooms. He laughed, turning around to say something but inevitably being left with an empty clearing and deafening silence.

"Wah, Soobin-ssi! This looks great!" you shouted with a happy smile, looking over the array of drawings on the whiteboard in the front of the class.

Soobin eye-smiled at you giddily.

"Still dreams?"

"Yeah. They seem to get... darker and darker as time goes on," he mumbled, finishing off the last line of the door he was doodling, admiring his work proudly.

"I'm sure it'll be fine,” you cooed reassuringly, rubbing a hand over the small of his back. "I'm sure we'll figure it out, soon enough."

Soobin nodded, smiling at you and closing his eyes for a moment. He knew you had vanished when he no longer felt that reassuring warmth over the small of his back.

Taehyun took his airpods out at the sight of his friend appearing in front of him, as you so often did. “What you listening to?" you asked with a sly tilt of your head and disarming smile.

He smiled weakly, shaking his head. "Nothing."

You raised a brow, still smiling at him slyly. “I'm not so sure about that, Hyunnie."

Closing his eyes, Taehyun counted to three, while simultaneously back in the homeroom, Soobin put on his colored glasses, looking at the door on the board.

When Taehyun opened his eyes again, they were sitting on the soccer field in a semi-circle. You watched Soobin intently as Beomgyu put a plaster over Yeonjun's cut before laying back with a content sigh. Chuckling, everyone else followed suit, huffing as their backs hit the ground.

"Man, this is refreshing. That stupid classroom was getting stuffy," you said after a few moments of silence, looking at the clear sky above you.

Soobin hummed, the others making a few comments about it before you got back on your feet.

"How 'bout a quick game, hmm?" The guys got up pretty quickly, grinning as you disappeared and re-appeared with the soccer ball from earlier. It was a 3v3: Yeonjun, Soobin and Heuning Kai versus you, Taehyun and Beomgyu.

"Y/N! Shoot, shoot!" Beomgyu shouted as he kicked the ball to you for the winning goal, tripping as Yeonjun tried to get the ball from him. When you got the ball in, Beomgyu picked you up, swinging you around while you all laughed triumphantly. From behind you, Taehyun was smiling and clapping, though the way he looked at you gave the idea that the gears in his head were indeed turning.

The five of you walked down the school halls together, split into groups or pairs as you walked, talking about a math equation and how hungry you were (cough Soobin cough).

Taehyun was standing idly further in front, and Yeonjun being Yeonjun, ran forward with a huge smile on his face, swinging his arm around Taehyun's shoulders and causing the smaller male to loose his footing; Yeonjun laughing at the shocked expression on his face. The rest of the group chuckled at the duo's antics, continuing after them quietly.

You stopped when you noticed Beomgyu lagging behind slightly. "Hey, Tiger! What's up? You look pissed," you said, commenting primarily on the rather intense look he was giving Taehyun from behind.

He shook his head with a somewhat forced smile: "Nah, it's nothing. I just don't think I did well in that math activity we did today."

You laughed. "Yeah, same. Tell you what, if you did better than me I owe you ice cream?" You wiggled your eyebrows challengingly, the taller boy laughing as he hooked an arm around your shoulder.

You were standing behind Yeonjun, the rest of the crew scattered around the room. Yeonjun was holding a pair of glasses over his notebook, and as the two of you were looking at it, the space in between where he had carved the box (or door, depending on how you wanted to look at it) had suddenly caught aflame. The lot of you shared looks with each other, though neither of you really tried to do anything about it, until that is, Beomgyu grabbed a fire extinguisher and sprayed the notebook.

The only problem?

The fire was still going. "The fu—"

"Language!" Kai said before you could finish cussing, causing the lot of you to laugh.

Having made your way up the stairs and to the roof as the sky slowly started to darken, you had told Taehyun to bring the fire extinguisher along. "Why?" He asked, a questioning look on his face.

"I have a feeling something magical is gonna happen." You said, a mysterious glint in your eyes and sly grin pulling at your lips. Taehyun had eventually brought it along, not without a lot of complaining though.

"Y/N noona! This is heavy!"

"You have muscles for a reason, Hyunnie! I'm making sure you keep them!" Yeonjun and Soobin snickered at the comment, Hyuka offering to help Hyun, who very happily agreed.

From the corner of his eye, Soobin watched Taehyun and Kai, still walking with Yeonjun as he noticed that you had interlocked hands with Beomgyu, for some or other reason.

However, he ignored it when you got to the rooftop, considering that it was almost completely dark. The majority of them went to sit down, Taehyun having been told to keep standing.

"Right," you said, clasping your hands together in anticipation. "Use the extinguisher, Taehyun!"

Though he looked skeptical, the raven-head did as he was told, quite surprised when a weird beam of red light blasted out of the extinguisher instead of what you often referred to as 'whipped cream'. When you all headed off to the library (mainly because you and Beomgyu had been complaining about the cold), Taehyun had decided to grab a book, whereas Yeonjun and Beomgyu had fallen asleep leaning against one of the shelves.

You were scrolling idly through your phone, sitting across from Taehyun while Soobin and Hyuka wondered through the various bookshelves in hopes of finding something that'd catch their eye.

"Run! Faster, Y/N!"

You were panting, your chest aching painfully with the amount of running you had to do. Yeonjun grabbed your hand, pulling you along with him to urge you to run faster. The fire had already started spreading, and it was moving a lot faster than they had thought it would. Soobin had been the first to find it, quickly alerting the rest of them to the immediate danger, and here they were, on the ground floor of the school building, confused as to why you seemed to be the only one tired after having to run down five to six hallways, (this being your sixth) and a good five flights of stairs.

Beomgyu was quick to lead everyone to the indoor swimming pool. "Great idea, Tiger! The fire can't catch us in the water!" You praised him, still trying to catch your breath from all of the running.

"Well, technically it can still get us, the water isn't everywhere in the room," Taehyun argued, Soobin and Yeonjun nodding along.

Kai was quick to take off his shoes, climbing into the pool first. "Get in!" he shouted after resurfacing, his hair wet and accentuating his facial features.

The lot of you were quick to jump into the pool, not needing to be told twice. Though, it was fun being in the water, and soon enough you had forgotten all about the fire spreading through the building. You grinned evily, splashing water into Yeonjun's face. The look he gave you was pointed and playfully serious, somewhat offended even.

You merely smirked at him, hiding your face as he chased after you.

The six of you started goofing around in the water, though you were sure you had seen them fall/ jump into the pool just a few moments ago, in the exact same manner.

Soobin sat on the side of the pool, watching as you and the rest of the guys dove into the pool like in that one High School Musical scene, one after the other, reminding him of a row of domino's.

His attention was diverted to the hatch in the middle of the swimming pool though, and soon enough everyone was moving through it. You came in last, scared to jump down. "I can't do it, it's too high up," you said, fear evident in your voice.

"I'll catch you, noona! You'll be fine!" Kai said, opening his arms wide. You sucked in a nervous breath, jumping down with a scream. True to his word though, Kai caught you and gave you what was probably the cutest smile ever.

"What is this place?" Soobin muttered.

"I don't know.. It seems like a rainforest of some sort?" you mused, shining your torch around curiously. The further all of you walked, the more you noticed the opening on the other end.

Soobin pulled away the shrubbery at the end, giving way to a vast, open field. And a...

Giant sized, white door?

"What the hell?" Beomgyu said, moving forward with the rest of you. They stood in front of it, and Yeonjun, out of curiosity, put on the same glasses from before. Lo and behold, the door burst into flames.

"Wah... It's quite beautiful, isn't it?" You awed as the six of you sat in front of it, watching as it burnt and splintered under the heat of the flames. Yeonjun nodded slowly, watching with absent, glazed over eyes.

A few minutes passed, and Yeonjun looked down at his finger. Slowly he peeled off the plaster, revealing that his cut was fully healed. He looked it over a few times before shrugging. Not the weirdest thing they've dealt with, after all. When everyone got up to leave, Taehyun stayed behind a bit longer than the others. Noticing Yeonjun's bear laying on the dirt, looking different from before; a lot more ragged and cut up. So he picked it up. "Taehyun! Come on, let's go!" You called after him, having a mini staring contest before he finally joined the rest of you.

You took one last glance back at the burning door, your blue and green eyes seeming to glow in the light of the flames. With one last, mysterious smirk, you followed after your friends.

i know you said hopes had negative character development for the cast, but who do you think is better in hopes than in houses?

Without a doubt, I'd say Felix and Sylvain who are better in Nopes than their FE16 versions, and in a way... Rhea herself, thanks to having more screentime when she isn't PTSD'ing lol

Call it chauvinism, but Sylvain in Nopes was scrubbed out of everything that made him... unlikable/feel flat in Houses.

His sob story about people only wanting to fuck him for his title/crest really felt... straight out ripped from some High School AU, with John McChad acting like an ass because the only girls who want to date him are interested in his situation as a heir of his dad's big company, and not because they love him. Yay. Great. Perfectly what I'm looking for in my medieval fantasy game where you whack people with swords.

Add to that the focus on crusts being the supposedly only reason why people are lusting over him - and not because, hey, you're a member of one of the most important noble houses in the Kingdom - to play in the general "crust bad" orchestra that can lead on the Supreme path, and the fact it's never ever adressed, and we have... this, which completely, to me, hides the other parts of Sylvain's character - like being someone who thinks outside of the box and resolves to lessen the reliance on his relic to defend the border by... creating a situation where they'll be no tension at the border, aka, a peace with Sreng.

Now, Sylvain works so well in Nopes partly because all of his "wah ladies only want my penis because i'm rich :'( " is erased, so we see a character who takes his duties as the heir of Gautier seriously, assists his Lord and friends and bring "new ideas" to help everyone. Sylvain, under his frivolous appearance and behavior, actually thinks and learns and suggests a lot of things that are quite useful, a bit like a "what if Sain wasn't only interested in courtship, but was raised as a future lord and had insight and suggestions on what to do". So sure, it's not as quirky and memorable as John McChad's sophomore year of school, but it fits better, imo, in the FE series.

As for Felix, well, it's more or less the same, his entire "duh boar bad chivalry bad and stupid - but wait no don't die and i'm sorry to have hit you dad i liked you but I was too busy playing the tsundere that I never got to say it to you before you died" schtick felt... old and annoying in FE16.

Sure, Felix can have his own, personal feelings about Dimitri being a hidden boar, but Felix is also the only heir of Rodrigue, and will become the next Duke Fraldarius, aka the second most important person in the Kingdom after the King himself, and the one tasked to protect it. Should Felix completely ignore his feelings and do what is expected of him, or take his role seriously? No, and Nopes has him give some "boar this, boar that", but Felix isn't a petulant 16 years old who wants to be "edgy" anymore, Felix is the next Duke - something he never shied away from, especially in his FE16 paralogue! - and has to start learning the job, thinking about Faerghus in something else than small jabs thrown at Dimitri and how to protect its people and second the King.

Heck, Felix's support in Nopes with Dimitri where Dimitri confesses about the ghosts, where Felix tries to carry him, the more or less cutscene where the general feeling is him saying to Dimitri he can count and rely on them... Given how FE16's Felix was written, even in AM, I can't see it happen before Rodrigue's death... and yet, in AG, Rodrigue is still alive (his optional death doesn't change those scenes), so when FE16's Felix realises there were more important things to do to help both his friend and country and dad but he only noticed it too late because he was too busy... being edgy, Nopes has him drop the edgy act (not completely drop it though, else it wouldn't be Felix anymore!) and act (lel) as his FE16 self, but only, without needing his dad to die first.

As for Rhea...

Having more screentime seriously helps, just like being allowed to talk about non plot relevant things with someone else than Billy or about Billy, I gushed a lot about the Nabatean paralogue, but it depicts her relaxing with her family (pissing on the "u r the only person i can talk to myself not the archbishop" pandering shit from FE16 even if FEH pissed on it first) and making tiny baby steps at apologising and confessing part of her guilt (for something completely stupid like Seiros the Warrior "borrowing" Cichol's shield to gift it to Willy!) to a member of her family.

Would that mean she would have confessed about the rez Sothis plan to Seteth earlier on? I... don't know, don't think so, and we don't have enough interactions between the two.

Compared to FE16 where she is an oyster until Billy turns green and Seteth nags her again and again and again, here she willingly makes the first step to apologise... sure, it's for something silly and not, resurrecting their mother, but it feels like a small progression (tiny baby steps) from FE16 where she has to be reveal stuff due to forced circumstances.

I also like how it sort of teases (or maybe that's just me lol) Seteth realising that Rhea still misses days long past to an unhealthy degree (tfw too much nostalgia), or just, having to remind her twice that those days are gone. Would he later realise her strange nostalgia hides something more deep, and ultimately her wish to "return" to those days by resurrecting Sothis?

idk, it's fuel for HCs and AUs, but for what it's worth, this paralogue and Nopes in general help flesh out Rhea more than what FE16 does, aka tying 80% of her mentions/appearances to Billy and Sothis.

(hell, in Nopes, she finally has lines with Flayn!)

woah your colors are very good- is there a process to them? they look so nice

For coloring, I generally think it's a little bit of having an eye for color -- i look at a lot of other artists' pieces and try to remember things they do that i like with color! And some of it is going to school for animation, where im trying to make things simple and cohesive.

My go-to is

pick colors for whatever I'm doing. This is sort of just...based on intuition. But two things i make sure to do(or try to) is if its a character, I try to limit them to 2 "main" colors and an accent, if needed. I try not to exceed that, personally, because with my art it tends to get too busy looking? But its not a hard rule for sure -- This little guy is blue and gold. The hair is a really light blue, and then the dark blue clothes, and some gold accenting to break things up. Backgrounds i tend to just pick what feels right. But this background has blue, so I make sure its the same type of blue that is on the character.

Then, I have a set of layers that I overlay ontop. I have this saved as a material template in Clip paint and I just drag-drop. This is where all my color correcting happens, tbh.

adjust the brightness and contrast, if needed.

adjust the hue and saturation. I tend to make the picture a little warmer hue, and boost the saturation

I have two textures i overlay, and adjust he opacity per image. One is a paper texture, and the other one despite being named paper still, is jus a static noise texture.

a gradient i adjust colors on per image, but warmbright-to-cooldark is generally my rule of thumb

Then I'll add some glow from the lightsource as a glow or overlay layer, too. this is normally just a gradient and erasing bits

here that is with just it popped on, and then with my adjustments

Next I'll normally add a gradient map, and adjust the color balance to make sure everything looks kind of unified. Sometimes i do this and then delete both of them because i liked it before LOL. But this really helps give a mood, too.

I also change the lineart color. If I'm being lazy, I just make it all one dark, saturated color (in this case a dark saturated red) Now it looks like its hot a summery! Vs how cool coded the original picture colors were!

Thats my like....quick and dirty. Theres a lot of good tutorials on how to actually colorpick initially and everything, but tbh I dont really think about it a ton and I think a lot of it comes from having a large mental color library 😅

Paint it Black (8) Finding

Robin disappeared three months ago. Now, Jump City's crime rate is mysteriously being taken care of by a normal, albeit strange, teenage boy who goes by the name Black. As the Titans befriend this lunatic, they begin to see a correlation between him and their missing leader. Will they be able to find Robin, or will Black turn them all insane as himself? [Actually, does not contain an OC]

Starfire and Black diligently worked in his room. Starfire set up a card table and some chairs. She spread her supplies out and allowed him to use what he wanted. 

Black sang a sad and eerie song, as if it was a jaunty tune, complete with a small smile and little head bobs. “That there, that's not me. I go where I please. I walk through walls, I float down the Liffey. I'm not here.”

Starfire glanced at him, goosebumps prickling up on her skin.

“This isn't happening. I'm not here. I'm not here.”

“Your voice is most soothing. Do you enjoy singing?” 

He looked at her confused. “Singing? Nah, I don’t sing.” 

“But you were just––” 

“Hey, look what I made!” He grinned, and held his project up to his face. It was a mask reminiscent of Robin’s, but instead of plain black, it was colored with crayons and had glitter on it. “Guess who I am? Wah wah wah Justice!” 

The mask went up in embers as Starfire incinerated it with the eye beams. “That was neither flattering, nor amusing.”

“Hey!” He protested, gathering the little pieces left. “I worked hard on that!” 

“Perhaps you should learn the art of, how Jinx would say, ‘reading the room’.” 

Black looked around. “There’s no words in here, though.” 

“I do not like mockery of my friends, especially my Robin.” 

He tilted his head. “Your Robin? Oh! Were you guys a ‘thing’? What are they called, courting buddies?” 

She looked downcast. “No, we were not. We were only good friends.” 

“Then…he’s not really yours then, is he?” 

She scowled at Black. “He had my heart, and still possesses it, wherever he is. Your flagrant disregard of this fact is cruel.” 

He pooched his lips. “Golly Gee, I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings. I was only trying to understand.” 

“To put it in a way, he was my most trusted friend and advisor. He explained many things to me when I did not understand.”  

“Like you’re doing for me?”

“I suppose you are correct. Your amnesia has put me in a place I was dependent on before.” She huffed, still upset. “I would prefer if we did not speak of Robin. It hurts my heart.” 

“Okay okay,” he rolled his eyes. 

“Star,” Cyborg called from the communicator. “Gizmo just arrived with the last video. Wanna see?” 

“I do not know if I want to see it, but I need to. I shall be there momentarily.” 

Black watched as she rose from the table. “Where ya going?”

“There has been…a break in the case with Robin. I am going to the ops room. Would you like to come?”

“Nah. I’m gonna keep working.” 

All the better, Starfire thought bitterly. She was trying to be forgiving and friendly with Black, but knowledge of his deeds and seeing his actions in person made it hard. 

Yes, he needed help, but perhaps the Titans were not the ones that should give it to him. 

Starfire entered the ops room, spying Gizmo sitting on the couch with a soda. A Dr. Pepper. Those were Robin’s.

But she just silently took her place. 

“Okay,” Raven acknowledged. “Where’s Black?”

“In his room,” Starfire said shortly. “He has hurt my feelings, and so I will leave him to his business.” 

“Black? You mean the weird goth wannabe superhero we talked about last time? He lives here now?! Of course, what am I saying! You fart knockers take in whatever stray ‘hero’ you can find.” 

“Is that not what the Hive does with villains?” Raven quirked a brow.

“UH. The HIVE is a school for supervillains. Totally different thing!” 

“Sure, Gizmo.” 

Beast Boy shifted into a cat once more and sat beside Star, knowing she appreciated the comfort he gave. 

“Y’all ready?” 

“The first two seconds got trimmed,” Gizmo explained. “That’s where the corruption was. The rest looked like it worked fine, but I only scrubbed it.” 

“Thank you Gizmo,” Starfire said softly.

“Oh…yeah. Don’t mention it.” 

When the video started, the camera was at an odd angle, mostly aimed at the ceiling, but they could see the top of the wall, and the underside of a face. The left side. Black hair, still the same gaunt cheeks and dark veins that stood out on his skin. 

“Shall we start?...Just like we practiced…what did we practice for?...Because we’re sending it to our friends, stupid!” 

“He’s…talking to himself,” Raven grimaced. 

“I do not understand,” Starfire breathed. “That is Robin’s voice, and that is his face…but it is not.” 

“So is it Robin or not?” Gizmo asked. “It’s one or the other!” 

“I won't run away no more, I promise,” Robin’s chilling voice sang.

“There is something very wrong with him,” Starfire explained. “Some of the words he speaks, it is like a different person.” 

“Like a person talking with a puppet,” Raven agreed.  

“Even when I get bored, I promise. Even when you lock me out, I promise. I say my prayers every night, I promise.” There was heavy sorrow lacing his words, but he giggled at the end. “Yes, yes, that was good. They’ll like that!...You remember the next one?...Of course!” He tottled away from the camera, the top of his head coming into view every few frames or so. He was dancing. “I resent you calling. I resent your voice. I resent that I don't have a choice.” He was really getting into the song, and singing loudly and proudly. Not all the notes were right, but he had joy in his voice. “And yes I am! Yes I am!” He backed up, the back of his head and shoulders in view. He was wearing a hospital gown, so the skin of his back was exposed, and covered in marks.

Beast Boy shifted back into a boy, and stared at the video. He already had the first part of the message figured out. 

“I think I've told you once, I think I needed advice. You were such a help, that's very nice. I think I've been here before…Yes I've been here before. But this time I kick down your door!” That last note was outrageously sour as he dissolved into playing the air guitar, complete with singing the notes he was pretending to play, “WWEEEE WWAANN WWAAAAHHH!” Then he started laughing as he dropped his arms. The laughter faded until he was just standing there. 

“That was excessive…oh lighten up, would you? We sang it! We rocked it!...it doesn’t have to be a good performance…Why are you like this?...because you’re a massive doo-doo head and no one likes you!” He chuckled, before his shoulders dropped. “Okay,” he turned partially toward the camera. “Last one. Make it count.”

He started bobbing his head as he closed his eyes. His voice was soft, slightly seductive. “Troubled words of a troubled mind, I try to understand what is eating you. I try to stay awake, but it's 58 hours since that I last slept with you.” He started bouncing on his feet. “What are we coming to? I just don't know anymore. Blame it on the black star! Blame it on the falling sky! Blame it on the satellite that beams me home…” 

Beast Boy let out a gasp of horror, “dude…” 

“What?!” 

He didn’t answer, just continued to watch it all unfold. 

Robin was moving in a slow sway, his arms up. “I get on the train and I just stand about, now that I don't think of you. I keep falling over, I keep passing out when I see a face like you. What am I coming to? I'm gonna melt down…” 

He started air guitaring again, putting his whole body into the song. “Blame it on the black star! Blame it on the falling sky! Blame it on the satellite that beams me home!” He threw his arms out to the side and screamed the last two lines. “This is killing me! This is killing me!” 

The door on the other end of the room opened, but the group could only hear it. 

“Having fun?” Said a new voice. 

“Oh a lot! So so much!” 

“I think you’re ready to graduate, Patient 8.” 

“Yes! I knew it!” He whipped around towards the camera, fiddling with it to turn it off, but before the video ended, they all got a perfect shot of his face. Wild eyes, a meaty smile, and a horrible, bloody wound that tore through his right cheek, shoddily stitched and weeping. 

When the footage went black, no one could move. No one breathed. 

“BB…?” Cyborg asked in a tiny voice. “Did you get…?” 

“Yeah,” Beast Boy breathed. “I Promise…Yes I am…Black Star.” 

The door to the ops room swooshed open, and they all turned to look.

Black stood in the doorway, wearing another crudely made mask. “Hey guys, guess who I am?!”

feeling very :/ abt my performance in school bc I hold myself to a high standard and I want to respect the material but w the wrong meds and the super late stimulant intervention and taking on so much in other projects I'm like. wah I did a bad job setting myself up for success and I want to communicate to my professors that i can be trusted but like this string of assignments was so bad :'l I didn't even write a conclusion it was soo disjointed and I just ran out of time but I couldn't submit it late again. I'm gonna redo it this weekend and ask for a convo so I can maybe explain myself but like. jeez. now that I am properly adhd medicated I feel a lot more confident I won't let this happen again but those habits are cut deep, it just feels amazing to focus for once in my life. Hey guys! Small-ish update on my whereabouts!

First of all, yeah, new semester. As a resident of Iowa, we've had... a lot of Snow days, per say. So teachers have been piling work on top of work, Yada yada, as well as after school job that I need to go to. So yeah. I've been busy as fuck.

BUT. Part 3 of the new chapter of Itura's lore has not been abandoned.. yet.. like the rest of them. Part 3 is being made!

I just wanted to gush about how much I looooove your team rwby designs. I’m so disenchanted with the show but I can never let it go because every time I see some great au art and designs that speak to beacon era I go crazy!! Weiss and Blake’s outfits especially go crazy I love the pants on Blake and the red on Weiss’s coat and how thin her ponytail is. I hate the braid I hate it I love Weiss with long, sleek, thin hair (or a bob or pixie cut). And I love the body type variety you gave the team they all just look so wonderful and the designs truly speak to the spirit of their original designs. Thank you for creating art and sharing it!!

honestly i've lost that lovely spark that the show gave me way back when, i feel you, but its so weirdly difficult to let rwby go. hbomberguy said it best, the show teases you with genuinely good moments and then nose dives back into the swamp. the beacon era is my fav era, i loved the battle school trope when i first go into rwby and i was excited to see all the school related adventures that would happen only for uh. v4+ to happennn.... yaaaaaaaay

i did my best designing those outfits to stick to the red, white, black, and yellow concept that the first outfits were designed with. those outfits were PEAK and i wanted 2 try and follow them up in a nice way. i was trying to think of how i could make my designs feel kinda like a natural progression from the first ones? and some of the choices ended up being things like "ruby wears a shirt and a dress instead of a one piece dress" and "blake wears bellbottoms now", while other choices had more thought like weiss switching to wearing more business-themed attire instead of princess-y things to show she's distancing herself from the status the schnee name brings. yang is uh. yang. yang's hard to design for especially cus her first outfit is booty butt bad

i'm so happy you noticed the different body types!!! i wanted ruby to feel more round and plump especially becus of her shorter height. round makes her friendly :) . also since she's related to yang, i wanted them to have similar body types. only difference is yang is more shredded. and tall HAHA. both yang and ruby are meant to be on the thicker side of athletic. blake is lanky, cus to me that feels cat like, and she also has wider hips. weiss is also lanky but in an overall super skinny way. she's got that ice skater build.

also YES haha i absolutely hate weiss' braid. its ugly, it makes no sense, and it's modeled terribly!!!!! weiss looks best with the long, thin, ponytail or with shorter cut hair!! absolutely!!! (i have her hair get cut in my own au :3 !!)
