Today I got a chance to play Elden Ring!!!

So first of all, I LOVE the sheer volume of customization options. It's wild. Even the presets really stand out! I picked one where the flavor text said my character was from some ethnic group descended from dragons? Which has grey skin and black scleras.

I started off as a Warrior, mostly for the drip, though I nearly picked the Confessor for the exact same reason. It was a hard choice! The starting classes all look so cool!

Anyway, started playing, and after only a minute or two there was a boss!

I got owned so fast it wasn't funny.

I think if I had some kind of ranged option I might've stood a chance, but all the Warrior has is a pair of scimitars and a small shield. Also, no healing! So, having not gotten quite a good enough sense for the game yet means I got torn apart while barely dealing a scratch. I did better against the first beast in Bloodborne, and they have you fight that one barehanded.

So, cutscene plays, we see a horsie and a mysterious woman. Wake up in a tutorial cave, tells me all the controls which I had more or less already figured out - except for sneaking, which is quite fun - and then set me against a really weak boss. No problem. I set foot out of the cave, and immediately get called maidenless by some guy called Varré. Real nice guy. I didn't pay very much attention to what he was saying because I saw a giant knight wandering around in the background and was keeping an eye on him.

Varré finished his shpeel and I followed the trail of grace, more or less, hiding in the bushes so that knight wouldn't see me. Made it safely to the next site of grace and met a merchant. Bought a crafting kit and torch, and decided to go fight a few wild animals to get some bones, make a few darts. Killed some deer, fought some giant bats. I ended up finding a cave with some gargoyles that cause bleed, so that's fun. I ended up dying, but my play session ended shortly afterwards, so I'll have to get it next time I play - probably next Friday. Very fun game though, and very pretty. Interested to see what the lore of this one is.
