Day 2
Day 2 was one of their trademark candles. This one was meant to smell like Calcifer’s hearth. At first I didn’t agree, because I didn’t think that’s how it would have smelled… but I think it might actually fit movie!Calcifer. It smells like apples, mostly; rather cozy, but also kind of bright and fresh in a way I don’t really associate with book!Calcifer, who I thought might smell more like bacon or sausages and woodsmoke. It’s really nice, though! My space is a disorganized mess right now, but I definitely NEED to make space so I can light this before it fades!

Illumicrate: I Tried a New (to Me) Book Subscription Box
Okay, I’m no stranger to Illunicrate. I’ve bought dozens of items second-hand through sites like Mercari. I even joined the panic to buy their Locked Tomb Book Set (which was worth it, btw). But until recently, I’d never actually been subscribed to them. Naturally, I decided to change that (the fact that they ship from the US now helped me make this decision). I knew going into this subscription…

Piercing Damage: Thornwhip
Monday, Monday, until I have a day job again it’s just like any other day. But It’s the day I’ve decided I get to talk about dice on, so I’m finally getting around to talking about this set from Dice Envy’s Pride Box. These guys are nicely novel but have a hard time living up to their aesthetics. Regardless, let’s roll! I find that I complain a lot about the pointy corners on sharp edged metal…

What’s the last book you’ve read, what’s the last 5 star book you’ve read, and what’s the best book you’ve read
GASP. I LOVE THIS QUESTIONNNNNNN
The last book I read was, Hockey Girl loves Drama Boy.
That book was okay, I’m used to dark romances or rom coms with a deeper meaning if you get what I mean. Overall I gave it a 3/5, because some parts made me want to cry and throw up!!!
IM NOT GOING TO LIE TO YOU, THE LAST BOOK I GAVE FIVE STARS WAS THE ANCIENT MAGUS BRIDE. I read this series when I was nine, and I was rereading it for giggles pls-
I can’t really pinpoint on what the best book I’ve read was.
I read the Twisted series by Ana Huang, WHICH WAS ALL FIVE STARS.
But if I tried to pinpoint it, it would be A good girls guide to murder by Holly Jackson.
I usually don’t like mysteries, BUT OH MY GOD. I AM HELL BENT ON THIS BOOK. IF YOU HAVENT ALREADY, GO CHECK IT OUT.
Thank you so much for this question, it’s my favorite omg.
TO EVERYONE READING, PLEASE ADD MORE QUESTIONS, IT IS SO FUN. IT CAN BE PERSONAL TOO.
ALSO, IM GOING TO TARGET TODAY, SO BOOK HAUL SOON MAYBE.
OKAY BYE BYE I LOVE YOU

Do you have a favorite book with bisexual rep?
I read Winter's Orbit by Everina Maxwell last February for the @rainbowcrate book club. Did I understand everything in the book? Not at all. Did I love the absolute chaos of the characters and their journey? For sure!
This political intrigue space opera follows Prince Kiem, who has an arranged marriage bomb dropped on him, and Jainan, an ambassador from another planet whose partner just died and who Kiem is betrothed. What happens next is a string of communication issues, problems due to the miscommunication, an investigation into Jainan's late partner's death, a few attempts at effective communication that go... not so well.
Usually, books that are extremely political are hard for me to follow and I lose interest, but that wasn't the case for Winter's Orbit. The world building was so well fleshed out and I loved how big a role culture plays. In this universe, sexuality is a fluid thing and gender expression is shown through the items they wear. No one questions it. This made for such a refreshing reading experience!
I adore Kiem and his chaotic bisexual energy so much! He was
incredibly kind and perceptive—the perfect match to Jainan's careful guardedness and intensity. And, while the miscommunication trope usually incites me with rage, it paid off so well in the end. Don't get me wrong, I was still absolutely screaming in my car while listening to the audiobook. That's what happens when you get both POVs.
Seeing Kiem and Jainan connect on such a deeply emotional level was everything. I adored watching them grow, uncover the past, and move past it together.
CW for past abusive relationship (mental, physical, gaslighting) discussed between characters and seen in flash backs, violence, torture

Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman
Man what a wild ride. The story is about a little girl who starts seeing someone called "Other Mommy", and the effects on herself and her parents. The writing was well done, from the viewpoint of a young child, and very compelling. So much so that I legitimately read this in a day. The character development was amazing, making it very clearly something that you could NOT put down unless you absolutely had to! I found myself sneaking off to read a few pages throughout different parts of the day, and I am sure it will be no different for anyone else. I would highly recommend this if you enjoy thrillers or horror, or any of Josh Malerman's previous books.
This ebook was provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Since 1984, one franchise has been a solid part of nearly every generation of children the world over, and it all started with a little indie comic that only published 3,000 copies!  Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been an unparalleled force in multiple genres and has remained a stable in comic publishing for 40 years! So for the 50th episode of the Behind the Yellow Boxes podcast, Steph and Brook have invited some former guest stars to join them in talking about the Mean Green Fighting Machines!
Along with a review of the first Mirage Comics issue of TMNT and a history of the creators, the podcast crew will discuss multiple adaptations, thoughts on the franchise as a whole, and a whole lot of personal Turtle love throughout the years.

I love E. Lily Yu's writing, and this collection of her short fiction is great from beginning to end. Her concepts in Jewel Box range from fantastical to absurd, from myth to sci fi, and every story is different and yet compelling. They play with imperialism and the violence of capitalism and greed, with people who yearn for something new, with terminal illness and grieving, with the fierce isolation of marginalization. They're all different, but those common threads bring them together into a collection I found hard to put down.
My favorite story is probably "Green Glass: A Love Story," a short, decadent, devastating story about the cruel obliviousness of the ultra-rich and their luxuries; I also loved "The Urashima Effect," in which one man sets off to found a space colony in what promises to be an excruciatingly lonely mission, knowing his wife will someday join him there. But all of the stories have their treasures—cats seeking revenge, a streetlamp in love, a bitter regime of wasps taking over a civilization of bees, a merchant with eyes for sale, a barn full of stairs, a unicorn in Central Park. This collection had me hooked from the first page, and I've officially added E. Lily Yu to my "I'll read anything they write" list.
Content warnings for sexual harassment and assault, violence, death, terminal illness.

Timeless Tales Advent Calendar Day 1!
On the first day of Christmas, Oswald gave to me…
..a Fae beanie!
Traditionally, the “Twelve Days of Christmas” referred to Christmas and the eleven days after Christmas, not before. In keeping with that tradition, I’m opening Owlcrate’s “12 days of Christmas” box starting on the 25th. There are 12 items inside, with one meant to be opened each day.
The presentation of the box is EXCELLENT. I love the fact that each item is individually wrapped, with a fancy little sticker indicating which day they’re meant to be opened on. They come in various shapes and sizes and it makes me SO curious. I also love that the box itself is much fancier than usual. The spoiler card has these extremely fun gold things that you can scratch off to see what each date’s gift is. I really like the green and gold color scheme, and the scratch-to-reveal reminds me of those lotto tickets you can get at grocery stores. Unfortunately the gold isn’t printed on perfectly, but that’s a very minor error.
Day 1 came in a slim box to the side, and was a knitted beanie with a sword design in front of it entwined with holly branches. I’m not sure which fandom specifically this comes from, but I don’t recognize it from the 1.5 ACoTaR books I read; so I do hope it’s from something else. Like a Holly Black book, or just a non-denominational Fae item. It’s actually very perfect, since it is now cold enough to need to wear some kind of knitwear or soft hood, and I couldn’t find my grey beanie anywhere. I’m not quite sure what to pair it with, clothing-wise — I don’t really have any black overcoats, and it looks odd with white — but it shouldn’t need to match too strictly. I do have a sweater that’s in almost the same shade of green, but not quite; hopefully if I wear them out on a cloudy day, no one will notice the discrepancy.
5/5 so far; hopefully the rest of the box stays strong!

Arcanist's Armory 2024 Easter Basket
A little late in the day getting this posted, but eggs have been dyed, family breakfast has been eaten, and I’ve got a minute now that the Purdue game is over. This is Arcanist’s Armory’s spring 2024 offering, an Easter bucket. Let’s roll! This one is a bit more simple than some of the previous Arcanist’s Armory quarterly boxes. The Easter basket has a total of eight dice sets of dice, five…

April Reads
Here are ratings of all the books I read in April: The Very Nice Box – Laura Blackett & Eve Gleichman ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I had a hard time rating this because this book was very slow, but I surprisingly enjoyed it! I think there was supposed to be a deeper meaning behind everything, but the overall story was easy to follow and fun to read. This is a good palette cleanser after a few intense books! The…
