"Ivan the Terrible and His Son Ivan on 16 November 1581" (c. 1883-1885 - Ilya Repin) / "Two Earthlings" (2003/2009 - John Brosio)
IVAN THE TERRIBLE AND HIS SON IVAN ON 16 NOVEMBER 1581: OUaghghhhhhhhhhhh oughhh the fact that they have the same names the blood ouaghhh the anguish ouaghhhhhh (snowdoesntexist)
TWO EARTHLINGS: When I first saw this painting and then it’s title it was like getting punched in the gut. In a good way. It’s super contextualized by it’s title, of course, and it really gets me in the heart!! There’s lots of artwork around that juxtaposes our modern lives with humans of the past in ways that make you feel connected to them and feel a sense of kinship for them, but this one stretches that feeling back millions of years beyond humans back to earlier eras of earth, and makes you feel that sense of connection with ancestors so old and different we aren’t recognizable as each other unless put into perspective in the way this painting and it’s title do, all because we share the same planet. It really really makes me emotional and I think at the very least more people deserve to see it and think about it. (reactorc0re)
(“Ivan the Terrible and His Son Ivan on 16 November 1581” is an oil on canvas painting by Ilya Yefimovich Repin. It measures 199.5 cm × 254 cm (78.5 in × 100 in) and is on display at the Tretyakov Gallery.
"Two Earthlings" is an oil on canvas piece by John Brosio. It measures 48 x 48 in (122 x122 cm).)

During the last stuff Primus Tournament in the AU, Jayce gets lured away on the side and some Dowsers try to take him out bc they don't want him to potentially win. They didn't know he could do the other demon form and freak out, but they still injure and pin him there. Lucy had overhead the other Dowsers implying they did something & she goes to check it out and finds him there. They had not been friends for most of this tournament & only worked together out of necessity thus far, but this would be when Jayce really starts to see her different. This is also the first time she's fully seeing his other form and he's surprised she isn't treating him just as bad as the others for it. Suddenly goes from "don't talk to me" to "I would kill for you, actually."

Set in a three Michelin star restaurant owned by celebrity chef Duncan Docherty, with Joe Macbeth as the sous chef and his wife Ella as the Maître d'. Joe and his fellow chef Billy Banquo are annoyed that Duncan takes the credit for Joe's work, and that Duncan's son Malcolm has, in their opinion, no real flair for the business. Then they encounter three supernatural binmen who predict that Macbeth will get ownership of the restaurant, as will Billy's children. Joe and Ella are inspired to kill Duncan, but the binmen subsequently warn that Macbeth should be wary of Peter Macduff, the head waiter.
Banquo's name is Billy Banquo, Macbeth's name is Joe Macbeth. Macbeth is played by James McAvoy WITH the Scottish accent. The witches are garbage men. A pig flies. It's like if The Bear was literally Macbeth and James McAvoy was there. It's genuinely so good I think it's still all on youtube. It's literally SO 2005, it's my babygirl. Let it be known this movie came out the same year as the first Narnia movie so James McAvoy was Mr Tumnus AND Macbeth in the same year which I think is delightful.
A retelling of MacBeth set in feudal Japan. Returning to their lord's castle, samurai warriors Washizu and Miki are waylaid by a spirit who predicts their futures. When the first part of the spirit's prophecy comes true, Washizu's scheming wife, Asaji, presses him to speed up the rest of the spirit's prophecy by murdering his lord and usurping his place.
Overall this just translates the rising sense of the doom and drama of Macbeth so well! The film is also beautifully atmospheric. It really leans into using mist and darkness to set an eerie feeling tone. Shoutout to Washizu’s (Macbeth’s) absolutely wild death scene in this version.
Moody, atmospheric, visually beautiful film that captures the vibe of Macbeth better than any I've seen. The illusion of the trees moving is astonishing (especially if you're lucky enough to see this on a big screen) and Lady M's hand-washing scene is as creepy as you'll ever see. And Toshiro Mifune gives a splendid performance (and is extremely hot).

SET SIXTEEN - ROUND ONE - MATCH FIVE

"Saturn Devouring His Son" (c. 1819–1823 - Francisco Goya) / "Guernica" (1937 - Pablo Picasso)
SATURN DEVOURING HIS SON: There's a lot in this painting that's just OUGH. The look of desperation and sheer hunger in Saturn's face. The strength of Saturn's grip on his son. The fact that his son is a man, not a baby, which foregoes the theme of harm to the innocent often seen in remakes of this myth. The head being bitten off first, as if to perhaps save his son the fear and pain of slowly being eaten alive. In this painting, Saturn is showing a sort of primal fear and desperation that makes me feel a bit queasy. There's so much emotion here, and it's an emotion that is hard to describe. It feels like a last-ditch effort, like if he just does this one atrocity, it will be worth it. He needs it to be worth it. What if he is eating his son for nothing? What if the blood never washes off his hands, even though it is gone? (@orbleglorb)
GUERNICA: [no additional commentary] (@emilysidhe)
("Saturn Devouring His Son" is a 1819-23 mixed media mural transferred to canvas (originally painted on the wall of his dining room) by Spanish artist Francisco Goya during one of the darkest periods of his life. It measures 143.5 cm × 81.4 cm (56.5 in × 32.0 in) and is displayed at the Museo del Prado in Madrid.
"Guernica" is a 1937 oil on canvas anti-war painting by Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. It measures 349.3 cm × 776.6 cm (137.4 in × 305.5 in) and is located at the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid.)

ROUND 1: POLL #48

ROUND 1 POLLS [HERE]
PROPAGANDA BELOW
Nico di Angelo/Will Solace:
They’re like sun and moon. Will is the son of Apollo, very happy and friendly, an excellent healer. Then you have Nico who is son of Hades, a much more gloomy person. They are mostly opposites, but fit together so well.
Tan/Bun:
hey are the ultimate freak4freak. they are not normal at all about each other and see each other's red flags and think it's sexy. Bun thinks that Tan is a murder suspect in a case he's investigating (he's a doctor who hates cops so he's taking things into his own hands) and still agrees to move in with him. Bun installs a tracker onto Tan's phone and tells him about it and Tan is just like "wow we're getting closer aren't we that's so cool." They are both such freaks and no one else could handle them but each other.
[SPOILERS]
this video really shows it off well
