Something I love about ATLA is that it doesn't force the "forgive the villain" on all the characters. It's been left clear that Ozai is a bad person, and there's no chance of redemption; the only reason he's not dead yet is because Aang is a pacifist
The one episode where a character is supposed to forgive someone who has hurt them in the past is the one where Katara is off to kill a man (which, fair) and Zuko helps. In that episode, even if Aang is telling her to let go, she doesn't forgive him. She never will. But she spares him. Not because she thinks he doesn't deserve death (he does), but because she's not willing to continue the cycle of violence
Killing someone can have a very important impact in your entire being, mostly depending on who you are as a person. Aang would've never recovered from killing Ozai. Katara wouldn't be who she is now, had she taken her revenge on the man that killed her mother
And the best part of it is that Ozai doesn't deserve to die. Not in a "I'm defending him" way (ew), but in a "he deserves worse that than" way
Taking away his bending was the perfect punishment for him. He believed bending made you superior and he never cared enough to train something besides his bending. What a loser. Zuko and Azula wouldn't be restrained by something like that
He's alive. Nobody has forgiven him. Nobody ever will

A recent video I just watched made me realize that if Yuji had Takaba's technique... yeah, no the JJK world is doomed. He should NOT have that technique.
It's not because he'll be bad at it... he'll be too good at it.
Keep in mind, that Yuji is quick to pick up on things and he cracks jokes a few times, he vibes with Takaba. Also, he has a love for movies and manga. The endless references and parodies he will put someone through? That would be straight up torture!!
Like, noooo!! I'm not trying to avoid the smoke with Truck-kun and its cousins, okay? Stick me in some Human Earthworm AU... no, I'm out!! I don't need that!
Yuji is sunshine when he smiles, but behind those kind brown eyes is something devious!!!

I’m so obsessed with the idea of Avatar Mako (not because I hate women, stfu Korra is still kicking ass, but just water-bending style in this AU) because the idea of an orphaned kid living on the streets, working with gangs, and fighting in underground bending rings while trying to raise his younger brother, not giving a shit about who the Avatar is or where they are, being the Avatar without knowing is so good.
Maybe his parents knew because when he was a kid, they did some little rituals or something to see if he was an earth or fire bender or if he even was one at all. But they never told him (or anyone else) because they were going to wait until he was sixteen, like traditional. So, they just went with fire-bending because of his appearance and because fire is probably more dangerous untrained, and more likely to be done on accident. (I choose to believe fire sneezing is a very real risk)
Anyway, I just.. I love this AU so much.

Original Cursed Technique: 影激減/Kage no Geki (trans. Shadow Puppet Theatre)
Asano-sama has an ability that's odd, for lack of a better word, given His nature as a River Kitsune. He can wield the light and shadows around Him in order to create puppets to do things for Him. They are controlled by gestures that mimic the action He wants to perform. You could argue that this is just run-of-the-mill telekinesis, and you'd be right, to a point, but drawing power from the light and shadows in the environment (or rather, the energy within them) is the key difference.
To me, it seems like He's always been to do this - create temporary vessels for the dead - and it feels separate to the fact He is a River Kitsune because most of Their powers are hydrokinetic. I know that zenko may have powers over everything, but Asano-sama seems like the kind of Being to tie His sense of self to His local geography, so He won't use powers that take Him too far from His place or sense of origin - that would be a river. Specifically, Asano-sama comes from the Otagawa, or the Ota River - that feeds into why He uses Kage no Geki more now, rather than His childhood; He has to, because of His catastrophic vision loss in 1945. This also is the reason Kage no Geki we (meaning Asano-sama and myself) think of it a Cursed Technique instead of a superpower or Quirk; there are negative emotions hidden in the shadows and in the fragments of people's souls. This, if you consider the Shinto view of animism, also applies to objects - He can befriend the object if it's more than 100 years old or pass on the soul of a puppet to an object so it becomes their vessel.
While, in truth, Kage no Geki was always a personal Cursed Technique, it was only recently classified as such because of it its rise in usage - the nuclear fallout of Hiroshima gave Him plenty of shadows to befriend.

(water to the river and wood to the fire) Hey did they really cut Miguel's jaw in half or can his jaw just naturally do that and he didn't know?
it Just Does/Can Do That, but miguel had ZERO clue abt that and his jaw also got Wiggled Around in a way that was specifically meant to hurt on purpose in the scene when it's made relevant in the fic! in general his mouthbones are way more flexible nd open wider to make Biting People easier

@dullweapons wanted a page from the Hero of Time's journal! ( still accepting! )
Tumblr media
The following is an extract from the personal journal of the Hero of Time, dated to the 30th Sun of Nayru’s Tide, 7 PU ( or Post Unification ). At this time, the Hero of Time would have been roughly 15 or 16. As far as scholars have been able to ascertain, the sir Ray Cadell he speaks of was the previous captain of the guard. While the actual identity of Ray Cadell is a matter of furious academic debate, as his name seemingly appears throughout recorded history with thousands of years between each appearance, that is outside the scope of this book. The preceding paragraphs speak of troubles with other knights and nobles in the Queen Zelda of that era's court, leading into the following recollection. Efforts have been made for a transliteral translation into modern Hylian, as the Hero of Time struggled with literacy and thus selected simple words, though liberty has been taken for readability and flow.
… Which leads me to my duel with Sir Cadell, the previous Captain of the Guard. When the queen made me her personal knight, he didn’t make a stink about it. His face was as still as it always was. When she made me the Captain of the Royal Knights of Hyrule he wasn’t there, so maybe he had been bubbling his anger since then? He challenged me to ‘prove I was worthy’. It was my first real fight since Termina*, but everything came back to me in a flash. He demanded that it was swords only; no magic or other items. I agreed to his terms, and thought it would be as easy as the other fights with these knights I’ve had since being knighted.
Something about Ray, though, was that he was different. I don’t know how to describe it, much less write it into words. He stood when others stepped back, took hits any normal person would’ve avoided or blocked. He was quick, too, for his size. He reminded me of fighting a garo; so trained in the art of combat. He also enjoyed fighting. I hadn’t seen Ray’s face change from his silent stillness. As the fight dragged he got more and more excited.
It was enough to freak me out. I’d fought without a fairy, but I was still sloppy without one. So much distracted me without her to focus on. The taunts of the crowd, the shouting of the queen when she found out we were fighting, and Ray’s face and fighting style… I thought he’d win. I didn’t like that thought. That was when I remembered my reflection. Ray was slow enough for me to stand on his blade†, and strike him. The plan was successful at knocking him off balance, and I won the fight. Afterward he wouldn’t accept my hand, merely commenting that I had proven to him I was an expert fighter.
I wonder if that’ll be the last time I have to fight the people I’m supposed to be fighting with…

*The word ‘Termina’ is not native to Hylian. The Old Hylian characters used here by the Hero of Time was a rough estimation, reading more like Tarumina, though this would eventually turn into Termina in the hands of later writers recounting the adventures the Hero of Time claims to have had in this mysterious land.
†This appears to be the origin of this technique being used in the literature surrounding the Hero of Time, though it is highly unlikely it actually occurred. The ‘reflection’ referred to in the previous sentence appears to be the same referenced in the alleged autobiographical Story of the Hero of Time, found in the Royal Archives of Hyrule generations after it was written. The relevant part is that, in the Water Temple, the Hero of Time faced his living dark reflection. This dark reflection allegedly performed this technique on the Hero of Time multiple times throughout their battle.

So I had this idea like 2 years ago, but I’m only just now getting to it. Avatar the Last Airbender AU and shenanigans, details below:
Nori - Son of the fire lord and absolute menace to society. While he’s technically first in line to the throne, he is absolutely - in the eyes of his father - not becoming fire lord. Probably for the better, though, because the pyromaniac fire bender would rather spend his time traveling the world in search of strong opponents to fight. He’s been tasked to learn different styles of bending in order to help him improve himself.
Hanamori - Childhood friend of Nori and exhausted second guardian as Nori travels the world. She’s able to create high temperature blue flames and bend lightning. She’s the only one who can put the prince back in his place if he goes too far in a fight. While her official duty is keeping Nori safe during his travels, she’s more keeping him out of trouble. Even though she finds Nori annoying when he asks to train with her, she’ll still help him out.
Kirisame - The Avatar of the Earth Kingdom, who just wants to run a tea shop. People assume he’s a non-bender as he’s never gone public about being the Avatar. He’s only able to bend the elements at a fundamental level, so it’s not like he can do much with it anyways. He’d much rather serve some tea at his somewhat popular tea house. Sometimes spirits visit him with their quarrels and he’ll help sooth things over with a nice cup of tea.
Tatsumi - A non-bender from the Earth Kingdom who is able to fake bending by using parlor tricks and contraptions. He understands the principle of bending through study, so he’s able to fool most people into thinking he’s able to bend one of the four elements (some even think he’s the Avatar). Normally, he works with machinery and designs automata that help him out around the shop. He’s the only one who knows Kirisame is the Avatar.
Momiji - He’s a flighty air bender who’s curious about the world and made his goal to befriend people from every nation. He doesn’t have mastery of airbending, since he has a hard time meditating. He left the temple on his flying bison because he wanted to see all the different nations. He hasn’t been back to visit his temple in a long time. He still makes sure to send letters, though, detailing where he is and what he’s doing.
William - Someone who doesn’t care for offensive water bending and would rather learn healing. He secretly observed healing lessons and was able to slowly develop his own style of water bending. He practiced on animals, and now feels more comfortable around them. He eventually left his home to experiment on animals in other regions, and because it was getting hard to hide that he was a water bender. He’s basically a traveling vet.
