i’ve always wanted to narrate my own work so I’ve decided to make a podfic of “with my teeth” because it has so many different voices and little asides and the theater kid inside of me is just dying to perform. i’m rlly excited just thinking about it, I love the breakneck speed of that fic and the way it just builds and builds to a sickening crescendo. plus this gives me a chance to break out my herbert impression :)))))

On the subject of consent in recent BLs
In this analysis, I will take a look at several love scenes in recent Thai BLs, how they frame consent and the sexual agency of the characters, and why those matter.
(KinnPorsche deserves its own post: I’m sure people have already written in detail about how much emphasis is placed on issues of consent/non-consent throughout the show and how fundamental consent is to the relationship arcs of both KinnPorsche and VegasPete, and I won’t belabor the point here. Also, special shout-out to The Warp Effect for what it brought to the conversation about gay sex, but TWE isn’t technically a BL so I decided not to include it in this analysis.)
I am going to take a closer look at the following shows in this essay: Not Me, The Eclipse, A Boss And A Babe, Step By Step, and La Pluie.
Not Me and The Eclipse predate the other shows by two years/one year respectively, but I feel it is valuable to include them here because both show very explicit negotiations of consent that I feel are spiritual successors to the wonderful scenes we’ve been getting in the other three shows.
Why am I even writing this? There used to be an unfortunate tendency in the genre to have a power imbalance between the “seme” and the “uke” character, which translated into the seme deciding when to have sex and what kind of sex to have—and even though recently, several shows have done good work in dismantling the seme/uke dynamic and questioning the associated stereotypes, it cannot be denied that the archetypes are still an important part of most BLs, and even in cases where the tropes are played with and questioned, understanding those subversions still requires a knowledge of and familiarity with the original tropes on the part of the audience.
However, gone are the days of Until We Meet Again and Dean’s “I’ve waited long enough, make sure you’re ready.” (I enjoyed UWMA a lot but that was. Yeah. Not Great.) Now, we see characters actually talking about and negotiating their limits, and doing what feels good to them.
Let’s start from the very beginning. Not Me was an absolute trailblazer in this regard, and not mentioning it here would be a gross oversight. The first time Sean and White have sex, it happens in their version of the beach episode. (Which, in Not Me, is the two characters briefly living in a tent inside an abandoned building. This show is the best.) Sean and White are removed from their usual environment and protected from the outside world by two barriers: the walls of the old house and the tent that’s literally enveloping them and giving them a space that is unequivocally theirs, shared, in which neither one of the characters has any sort of power over the other. And what happens in that space when they’re about to have sex is extremely interesting: the first thing Sean asks is whether White is afraid of him, which White denies. The following exchange goes like this: White: "So, what are we doing?" Sean: "What should I do to you?" White: "That’s up to you." (Watch the whole scene here.)
I find this exchange incredibly meaningful because this already turns the seme/uke dynamic that can be found in a lot of other shows on its head. OffGun as a branded pair can easily be stereotyped into the seme/uke dynamic just because of their physical appearances, and clearly spelling out that both characters have agency in this scene is incredibly important.
And then it gets better! Sean assumes that White is sexually inexperienced (which is not true but the fact that White was actually in a relationship with a woman back in Russia never comes up again after the pilot episode, so maybe the show expects us to assume this, too), and suggests they try different things and White can tell him what he likes and doesn’t like. Compared to the stuff we’re getting now, this scene isn’t very high heat at all, but it’s one of my favorite intimate scenes ever because them asking each other “Do you like this?” after every kiss, every touch, is so incredibly unique and transports a wonderful sense of figuring out sexual pleasure together, as a couple.
Sex in Not Me is not something one character does to another, it is something that is discovered and shared together, and we even get an afterglow scene in which they gently tease each other about their fast beating hearts. (And don’t get me started on the importance of White choosing to ask Sean whether Sean is okay with White not being like Black in that moment right before they have sex, because he doesn’t actually want to have sex with Sean as Black! He wants to discover and share intimacy with Sean as White, as himself, not as his brother! The layers!)
Anyway, I think that scene paved the way for a lot of the conversations around consent we’re now getting in BL, just because it is so explicitly, unashamedly putting forward a definition of sexuality that has nothing to do with one character actively giving and the other passively receiving, but frames intimacy as something that is built together. (More on giving and receiving later!)
Now, moving on to The Eclipse. I decided to include the first time Akk and Aye have sex for a different reason: while we don’t really see them actually talking about consent, we see them practicing non-verbal consent. Let me explain. Akk’s and Aye’s whole thing is teasing each other. At first, Aye is usually the one doing the teasing, but Akk gets the hang of it towards the end of the show and teases his boyfriend right back. When they’re in Akk’s childhood bedroom together, Aye clearly alludes to the fact that he thought they might use this opportunity to have sex for the first time, which Akk pretends not to understand, all while alluding to it himself. I love this guy. (Watch the whole scene here.) Anyway, Akk says he wants to sleep, lies down and once again, tells Aye jokingly he just wants to sleep, clearly expecting Aye to do what other BL protagonists do at that point and not take no for an answer (sidenote: I HATE the “saying no as foreplay” trope with a passion and as far as I’m concerned it should die already).
However, Aye is not like other BL love interests, and he backs off. He stops touching Akk, lies down with his back to Akk, showing Akk that he takes him by his word: if Akk says he wants to sleep, Aye is going to let him do just that. So now, it’s on Akk to say that, no, that’s not what he meant, can Aye please come back to cuddle. And then Akk is the one to escalate from cuddling to kissing, which is extremely important: we know that Aye has been ready to have sex with Akk since forever, it’s Akk who’s been having hangups about intimacy this whole time.
They don’t put consent into so many words on this show, but Aye shows Akk that he respects his limits and that Akk only has to tell him he doesn’t want to do something and Aye will take him at his word.
So, these are, to me, two foundational scenes of establishing consent: one that shows consent as something that is established verbally, as an ongoing conversation, and one that shows consent as something that is established physically, by showing your partner that you respect their choices and limits by way of simply acting accordingly.
Now, let’s get into the fun part: scenes we got so far in 2023. I’m writing this post on the 13th of June, and I’m sure this year still has some great things in store for us, especially because Step By Step and La Pluie are both ongoing and neither of the main couples are actually together yet at time of writing. However, they’ve both already given us AMAZING scenes on the topic of consent, so I feel it is worthwhile to write about those already.
I want to start off by talking about A Boss And A Babe.
Let me just preface this by saying that the intimate scenes in ABAAB are some of my all time favorites in BL ever, because in them, sex is something that is just so normal. When Gun and Cher have sex, we don’t see them very passionate, excited, reluctant or wide-eyed innocent (which are some of the emotions traditionally associated with sex in BL). On the contrary, in every single scene that shows them being intimate, both characters are incredibly calm. They’re certainly happy to be with each other, but in a subdued way. Someone described their second intimate scene as them seeming like they’ve been married for a few years. They’re both just… incredibly normal about having sex with each other. It’s simply something they like to do together. It’s a part of their romance but it’s not more or less important than any other aspects of their lives.
And consent is at the very heart of it.
When Gun and Cher have their first time, we see Gun explicitly asking for consent two times: first, “Can I kiss you?”, then, “Can I do more?” The second one even comes with the promise that if Cher says no, Gun will immediately go to sleep without mentioning it again. And then it is on Cher to say yes, to pull Gun close and kiss him to show him that he is comfortable with taking things further. (In the show, these two questions were shown apart from each other, I cut together a version of the whole First Time Scene in its entirety, watch it here.)
Now, things get more interesting: the second intimate scene shows Cher initiating the encounter (watch the whole scene here). Cher pretty consistently falls into the uke category, both physically and as far as characterization is concerned, but he’s certainly not shy in the bedroom. And this time, he’s the one who asks for consent from Gun: Gun asks “You’re starting it?” and Cher’s response is “Can I?” Despite him being framed physically lower than Gun, basically at Gun’s mercy, he still seeks confirmation that Gun is okay with the way things are going. Not to overstate it, but to me, this feels revolutionary. Once again, we’re being shown that sex is something two people do together, as a shared activity, and that the “seme” character isn’t expected to just be up for it. He, too, has the right to say no.
On this show, sexual agency is taken extremely seriously, and it is clear that both Gun and Cher give each other space to decide what they’re comfortable doing. This is shown in non-intimate scenes as well: there are so many moments on ABAAB in which the characters negotiate physical touch and closeness, asking each other for hugs before actually hugging each other, Cher leaning on Gun’s shoulder in the car but not allowing Gun to touch him because that’s not what he’s comfortable with in that moment, and so on. (The only exception to this otherwise pretty consistent rule is the kiss in the car scene, which I’m still extremely confused about because it seems to go completely against Gun’s character. Who knows what happened there.)
Of course, the fact that so much emphasis is placed on negotiation and consent isn’t surprising on a show that has such obvious kink undertones and whose Our Skyy 2 entry basically consisted entirely of Dom/sub roleplay at work—I’m just saying, I think someone on the writing team is way into BDSM and knows all about the importance of enthusiastic consent from all parties involved, and I would like to send them flowers.
Step By Step hasn’t really reached the point where we can analyse the dynamic between the main couple (although we can take some educated guesses based on the interactions we’ve seen so far). However, last week’s episode had an extremely important scene between Pat and Put: Pat wanting to have sex with Put, then changing his mind mid make-out (watch the whole scene here). I really like the way this scene was done. No matter how shitty Put treats Pat at times, in this instance, he immediately understood and respected Pat’s change of mind without Pat even saying or explaining anything—at the end of the episode, Put says to Pat that Pat should tell Put when he feels ready to have sex. (We already know this will never happen because of course, Pat and Put are not endgame, but I do appreciate the sentiment.)
BLs rarely include a whole storyline in which the protagonist is in an actual, serious romantic relationship with someone other than his endgame love interest (hi Moonlight Chicken!), or if they do then just to up the angst factor. In this case, however, I feel that this scene raises our expectations for Jeng even further: if the guy who is definitely not a romantic match for Pat treats Pat with this much respect in the bedroom, then Jeng has to do at least that and then some. I do feel confident that Jeng won’t disappoint in this regard, but it’s fascinating to see a show frame this kind of respect as the absolute baseline minimum, with the endgame love interest expected to do even better.
Now, the one you’ve all been waiting for. The one that made me write this whole essay in the first place: La Pluie.
Oh boy. Where to start.
A week ago, we got an incredible make-out scene on Saengtai’s floor, which ended in Patts stopping the encounter because he could tell Tai wasn’t really comfortable taking things further—@bengiyo talked about that scene in detail here. And then, three days ago, La Pluie gave us the most unique, trope-defying, timeline-changing blowjob scene of all time, and I want to talk about it.
Tai and Patts are making out on their bed, Tai is not ready to go “all the way” and stops Patts from undressing him. We see a very realistic frustrated reaction from Patts, who nevertheless immediately stops and accepts Tai’s wishes—it is clear that Patts does not expect things to go any further at this point, and that he won’t pressure Tai into anything.
And then, Tai offers to blow him.
(Unfortunately, this show is only on iQiyi so I can't link to it, but you can get a good impression of the scene here.)
I mentioned the concepts of giving and receiving earlier: other people have said this more eloquently than me, but there is a tendency not only in BL but also in wider society to view sex in terms of giving and receiving, with a lot of expectations and stereotypes attached to the roles during different sexual acts. On other shows, that blowjob might be framed as a consolidation or an apology, something that the giver does out of a sense of obligation without enjoying it much. Not so on La Pluie! Tai is shown incredibly happy and satisfied afterwards, both when they’re sleeping next to each other, as well as on the morning after (see also @ginnymoonbeam's post about that here). Tai offered to blow Patts because he simply wanted to, not motivated by guilt or anything of that sort. And he genuinely enjoyed it! In the post I linked above, @bengiyo points out that La Pluie consistently centers queer desire, or more specifically in this case, male desire for a male body; much in the same way that the camera fucking loves Force’s body on ABAAB: the sensuality of the skin, the hands, the abs, the flat chests, the broad backs and shoulders of these men is explicitly emphasized, and Tai’s desire for a dick in his mouth is made absolutely crystal-clear. Of course, since this is a TV show and not a porno, we only see Patts’s thumb in Tai’s mouth instead of his dick, but the imagery, the implications, are clear as day.
And it is such a gentle framing, too: Patts caresses Tai’s lip lovingly, Tai opens his mouth slowly, seductively, then faces Patts’s crotch with a soft look on his face. We do get a clear sense of this encounter as tender, and gentle, and most of all, desired. Tai’s queer desire is at the heart of this scene, and at the heart of the afterglow scene as well. He wanted this man’s dick in his mouth, openly suggested it, showed Patts he was sure about his decision after Patts asked him whether he was, and ended up clearly happy and satisfied with the sex they had. This post, also by @bengiyo, goes into more detail on that.
This, once again, shows us sex as a conversation rather than a series of predetermined acts, shows us sex as a shared activity, as something that can be wonderful and intimate and make people happy without following what society views as “the correct steps”. I think this is extremely important because one part of queer identity is figuring out one’s own relationship to sexuality, one’s own desires and needs, and BLs that ignore this aspect fall a little short in my opinion. Sure, those men are kissing, but do they experience queer desire? Do they experience joy in their queer desire?
For me personally, a show that does not shy away from these questions is a lot more meaningful than a show that does, and consent is at the heart of it all. By framing sex as a conversation, as something that is built and shared together, the shows I looked at here are actively positioning themselves against the idea that there should be predetermined roles for partners during sex, and instead suggest that queer joy can be found in communication and consent. Understanding sex and intimacy as something that is built together, with both partners as equals in conversation, is just as radically queer as a man waking up with a smile on his face after giving his soulmate a blowjob the previous night.
And quite honestly, a male character who clearly, passionately, unquestioningly communicates that he wants a dick inside of him—that is incredibly sexy. But maybe that’s just me.

Ok 😅sorry . It's my fault . So rarely used word the taboo , i wrote wrongly . So , the Hogwarts Legacy now lot artists favorite now , painters/writers and i love it . Im reading a lot on AO3 and i dont understand why they why missing from every fanfiction the the "consequence of free love" . Realist , i know but would be huge turn in one story . Only Tamayula drawed Sebastian and Ominis as fathers . One guy shocked on me bec "they're minors" as he said.....yeah 😄they are who's kills , they do threesome or just traditionally (with MC) . They already wrote alrernative universes , same way they do everything...and there is the unspoken baby shield . The MC is a strong wich , only she can use anchient magic . Sebastian and Ominis too camed from strong / talented family . Their child could be more special , stronger bloodline . With the pregnancy whould came the interesting questions : Which one the father , when , how she'll hide from everyone in the 6th year, with illusion charm ? So thatswhy i asked ,why taboo the pregnancy subject for every artist if the "very detailed lovemaking" not shame ? 🥲
I never knew I couldn’t put community label on a ask… so… Warning: NSFW (talking smutty stuff)
You are perfectly fine! Thank you for more context, I think I understand your question more clearly now and oh boy— this is gonna be a long response
Now I wanna point out that I haven’t really read any actual full blown fanfics, at least ones that include underage smut as you’ve mentioned. The closet I’ve ever gotten was one shots and that’s it. I’m not a fanfic writer myself, I’ve only written some random head canons.
BUT! I have drawn somewhat naughty things, although not as smutty as what I’ve seen other artists do 👀 I do have a couple of… some… I guess you could call “teasing” artworks and I will do more but anyways that’s besides the point—
What I get from your ask is: Why don’t artists ever talk about the consequences after these smutty scenes? (Please correct me if I’m wrong)
Which is a fair question! You know if we are talking canon, this is late 1800’s we are talking about. They didn’t have a plan B or a healthy way to abort a pregnancy. But also there is the factor that there’s only a CHANCE you get pregnant. Now unless they’ve written in there fic like 6 smut scenes then yeah— it is a bit unrealistic unless the character is someone who actually can’t conceive any children (which would be so sad and angsty ngl)
Back then having intercourse before marriage was considered a sin, they believed that sex was gate kept by married people only. So… why not have one of the boys ask MC to marry her? Well you see… back then it was very common for young women and in this case girls to marry… but the man had to be 21 or older legally if they wanted to marry someone younger. So the boys can’t marry MC while they’re still in school.
Now, back to the question. Why don’t artists talk about the pregnancy? The truth is, it would probably impact the story in a negative way. Meaning that if MC has a child at 16, then she basically has a ball and chain on her ankle because she was seen as a widow (and many other words) which was seen as a HUGE red flag to others way back then. And the boys can’t do anything about her reputation… they basically just ruined it by making her pregnant before marriage.
““No sex before marriage!””
The thing is that back then it was taboo to talk about pregnancy and even sex for that matter. Specially when they’re young and not married. Those conversations were reserved for when they want to procreate.
Personally for me, I don’t think MC should be having a sex life at the age of 15 or 16. I mean don’t get me wrong, it can STILL happen, just because it wasn’t excepted back then doesn’t mean it never happened. I just don’t think teen mom really fits well with MC (or at least mine). Plus babies, although are cute, can be a huge pain in the ass while you are studying at Hogwarts while beating up poachers and killing trolls with the imperius curse
Now I do over analyze things you can thank my AP teach in hs for that. And this is only an opinion with a hint of research I did. You do not have to agree with me. As an artist I’m not ready to make that kind of content and this is just my way of thinking. I don’t speak for other artists, so if you want to write underage smut, and even a teen mom MC you do you! Don’t let my words dictate what’s right or wrong because in reality of it all, there is no right or wrong.
There can be other factors like:
Artists not feeling comfortable writing about pregnancy
Just wanting to write smut because they can
There might be hidden context that the artist is keeping secret until the right moment
They are literally writing in a AU where pregnancy can be avoided (modern AU for example)
We are talking about an AU where there are witches and wizards, there could easily be something that could prevent a pregnancy if you just make a HC
But I think it just all comes down to artists comfort level. I mean I’m comfortable with adults having kids because it makes sense… but at 15??? Unless they were married which is was very common for young females in the Victorian era, I don’t think MC having a child while still in school would be realistic in that time period. Honestly women going to school is unrealistic too but this is a different AU… things aren’t going to be realistic.
Just some random research I did because I love analyzing things: (this is based off of England)
A woman can get married at a very young age… BUT— the man has to be 21 or older if he wants to marry someone under the age of 21. Because in England of 1823, it was legal for a man and women to marry at the age of 21. Although it seems after 23 men could easily marry a female from 12 and up without parents consent (I know, sickening)
In the Victorian era, although it was common to see young women with older men, the average age a women would have a child is around the age 21-23
Females who got pregnant in their teens were actually punished for their “sins” and were actually forced to put their child up for adoption in some cases
It wasn’t common for people to have premarital sex until 1920

BILE AND BLUE PANSIES
theend4’s supernatural poetry event
hey everyone!! egan here<33
so…. i recently hit a follower milestone… and i want to say thank you!!! wtf fr!!!! i love all of you so so much. i’m still an internet baby, but i’ve been active in different fandoms since around 2017, and this past year has been one of my favorite fandom experiences ever. i’ve made some really good friends and gotten inspired by so many different artists, writers, and ideas. thanks so much for being on this crazy journey with me.
SO WHAT?
one of my favorite things i got to do this year was share my poetry with you guys! it’s been an absolute joy to receive so many lovely messages from you saying how much you love my work. truly, your feedback means the world!
so, in honor of that, i’d like for you all to share your poetry with me! whether you’ve got 7 published poetry books or you’ve literally never even read any, i’d love for you to try your hand.
OK, WHEN?
September 18—September 24th, 2022
ALRIGHT, NOW HOW DOES THIS WORK?
READ the poems in the prompts, and then think about what you like about them—themes, voices, characters, endings, beginnings, word choice, formatting, etc!—and do some brainstorming!
WRITE one or more poems inspired by the ones listed! when i'm inspired by a certain poet, i like to try out writing in their syntax, their mannerisms, or their subject matter. give it a go! (for example: richard siken breaks up his lines across the page. if you've never tried this, playing around with indentation can be a super fun way to break up your lines!)
POST your poem either as a screenshot, photo, or plain text post to tumblr. (note: please provide a transcription of your poem in the caption if you decide to upload a photo.)
CREDIT the author of the poem you were inspired by in the caption! i won't reblog poems that don't give credit to their inspirations.
TAG your post with #bluepansypoetry and @ me so I can share your lovely creations!
DO YOU HAVE READING RECOMMENDATIONS? PROMPTS EVEN?
i do!!! please find my list of all-time-fave recommendations of supernatural-esque poems that i love below!! each day of the event focuses on one poem as a “prompt” or inspiration, so please read them all to see which ones you like! i tried to include a variety of styles. GOOGLE DOC OF THE POEM PROMPTS HERE!
SCHEDULING NITTY-GRITTY
SEPT 18: “french novel,” ritchie hoffman
SEPT 19: “colosseum,” jericho brown
SEPT 20: “fragment 147,” sappho, translated by anne carson
SEPT 21: “cagnes sur mer 1950,” jorie graham
SEPT 22: “road music,” richard siken
SEPT 23: “telemachus,” ocean vuong
SEPT 24: “object permanence,” madeline cravens
BUT I'VE NEVER WRITTEN POETRY!
i hear you say. yes. i have never tried oil painting, but i would like to! i believe it's important to keep an open mind when practicing new arts—you're never going to be "good" right away of course. besides, my goal isn't to write "good" poetry. (ok, maybe a little.) but i write poetry because i feel like a wildfire when i do. i write poetry because i might die if i don't. art keeps us alive. words feed the soul.
the best advice i’ve gotten about how to write poetry… is to read poetry. read bad poetry. read good poetry! and then sit down for a hot second somewhere and write. write for 8 minutes without stopping. you can write "i don't know what to write" 100 times over if that's all that comes to you. or you can write a play. describe the space around you. talk about what you had for lunch. something will come to you, i promise. and if it doesn't? gently put it away for now. there isn't any rush. you can come back tomorrow.
FINAL WORD
first: no hate speech! second: if you do create nsfw work, please tag it as such. i want everyone to be able to participate in this event safely.
thank you once again for being on this journey with me, whether you arrived today or have been here since before i even got into supernatural, i love you all dearly. good luck, and happy creating!!
also, if  you were curious, this event is based on my poem (and song) blue pansies! which you can find here, if you like!
LINK TO THE POEMS AGAIN!!
remember to tag your work with #bluepansypoetry, and happy writing!!!

Fic Writer: Five Favorite Fics
Thanks for the tag @typewriteringalaxy.  It’s been a while since we’ve chatted and I hope you’re doing well these days.  Reading everyone’s lists has been interesting.  I didn’t know you wrote a Cloak & Dagger story, so I’ll have to check that one out.
Anyway, choosing five of my favorite fics in the Firelight Stories series was hard.  It was like trying to choose a favorite among my children.  They’re all my favorite in one way or another, but in order to not cop out, I’m gonna narrow it down to five anyway.
Also, before I continue, I wanted to say that I really enjoyed @letters-to-rosie‘s “The Fire Next Time”.  Really well done and worth a read.
Ahem, on to the main event.  My top five (in no particular order).
Joint Megalomania (Ekko/Jinx, M, 26/26),  - This was the first fic I had ever written and before I started, my wife told me to avoid writing it if I couldn’t finish.  I promised myself that I would make it to the finish line...AND I DID!  Shocked the hell outta me, but it’s a story I’m most proud of.  A good bit of mystery/suspense with some cool interactions between Ekko and Jinx.  A bit of angst in there, but that’s kinda par for the course for Ekko/Jinx stories, to be honest.  I had no idea what the hell I was doing, but I think it turned out well in the end.
Love & Food (Ekko/Jinx, T, 9/9) - This started off as a joke about Ekko and Jinx eating pancakes. However, I suck so hard at writing comedy it didn’t turn out the way I wanted.  I did enjoy the premise and thus decided to change it from a one-shot to a full-blown story.  The final product is something I’m happy with and I feel like it ends on a good note.  Coming up with the “dish of the week” was fun.  Chef Ekko will always be cool as shit to me.  The crazy thing is that this turned out to be the first long story I ever finished of ALL of my works.
An Outlaw’s Tale (Ekko/Jinx, M, one-shot) - I wanted to write a period piece with Ekko and Jinx and was stuck on what to write when my wife suggested I write a western.  I had never written a western before, so I did a ton of research about the 1800s and went from there.  Imagining Jinx as some badass outlaw was fun.  It’s one of the few Ekko/Jinx stories I’ve written where I keep the same origin story beats from Arcane.  I tried to tone down the racial issues, but it was still hard to ignore if I wanted to stay true to the time period.  Not sure if that’s for everyone, but I think I handled it with a bit of tact.
The Madness of the Feeling (Ekko/Jinx, T, 3/3) - My more radical stories tend to involve Jinx for some reason and that led me to writing this one which focuses on Ekko.  This story hits me the hardest, if I’m being honest with myself.  I dove deep into my early relationships to craft this one and there’s something raw about it that leads to a bit of introspection.  I actually crunched on this one trying to release it on Christmas Day, only to fail, because I didn’t take into account server locations.  Oh well, it was fun to write and while the subject matter was a bit depressing, I love how it came together.
The Celestial in the Moonlight (Ekko/Jinx, M, 7/7) - What started off as a monster horror story that was planned for Halloween, turned into a heartfelt journey of a monster falling in love and finding her place in the world.  I originally lamented the fact that I had abandoned the horror story, but as I went on, I found the new direction to be a better story.  It’s also the first story I have two characters actually get married AND have the ceremony.  Writing the dialogue for that was challenging.  Still, kitty monster Jinx turned out to be one of my favorite depictions of her as a character.  Glad I changed my mind on that one.
Honorable Mentions:
Guardians in Twilight (Ekko/Jinx, T, 6/6)  - Tackling the mess that is the Star Guardian universe was challenging.  I spent WAY too much time trying to connect the dots and to stay lore compliant.  Not sure if I’ll do that again, even if the final product is something I’m proud of.  I actually played League to research this one and I definitely won’t do that again.  Gotta admit, I love the interactions between Ekko and Jinx in this one.  Writing an “anime date” was definitely new for me.
Goodbye and Hello, My Friend (Ekko/Cait, M, one-shot) - I won’t say much about this one, other than it was a period piece set after World War 2 that I wrote because someone dared me to.  Should I have done it?  No idea, but what’s done is done and the final story turned out to be a nice commentary on soldiers putting themselves back together after the war, especially black soldiers.
-----
I don’t know many people here, but here are a couple:
@vanilla107 (I know we’ve never met or even chatted before, but I loved your Ekko/Jinx stuff and I’m curious which ones you liked.)
@jm-chrome (What are your favorite art pieces?)

Twenty Questions for Fic Writers
Tagged by @decaflondonfog and @jaywalkers (thanks y’all, loved reading both of your thoughts. sorry I’m late doing this)
1. How many works do you have on ao3?
10 works (8 fics (one of which is a secret fic for @aftgthenandnow) and 2 original works)
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
30,661 (not a whole lot but I’m working on it 😅)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
All For the Game is my main bitch but I also have fics published (or orphaned in some cases) for KinnPorsche, Romeo & Juliet, and BBC Merlin. It’s actually my default state to be a fandom hoe so I currently have active WIPs for All For the Game, BBC Merlin, Mo Dao Zu Shi, Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System, Word of Honor, Tian Guan Ci Fu, KinnPorsche, and a secret fandom for Yuletide
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
leave or stay (i’m invisible here) (KinnPorsche, Kim/Chay, 4k, T)
secret @aftgthenandnow fic
sometimes i wish i kept some of my feelings in the basement (All For the Game, Andrew/Neil, 6k, M)
A Damned Saint, An Honorable Villain (Romeo & Juliet, Benvolio/Tybalt, 3k, M)
No Stranger To the Wind (All For the Game, Andrew/Neil, 10k, T)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I respond to comments, mostly just cuz I like thanking people or engaging in conversation with them if they leave a neat comment. But I’m (happily) not exactly a popular writer, both cuz I’ve only just started posting fic and also cuz the subject matters and/or fandoms I tend to write for can be pretty niche, so it’s easy for me to have the energy to reply to all the comments I get
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Hmmm I guess prob Prayers or A Damned Saint, An Honorable Villain. Both have kind of depressing open endings
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Prob Belonging cuz it’s mostly just found family fluff
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I’ve never gotten hate before and I really hope I never do cuz I would cry
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Lol no. Most I’ll do is a fade-to-black pg-13-type of thing or innuendo
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I do write crossovers but I haven’t ever finished writing any of them, just a couple fandom fusions (No Stranger To the Wind is the All For the Game characters existing in the universe of Cinda Williams Chima’s The Seven Realms series). The craziest one that I’ve ever outlined though was a BBC Merlin/Voltron crossover where after Lancelot walks through the Veil, he’s reincarnated as Voltron’s Lance McClain 😂 (I may or may not have been very inspired by Trust Me, I'm an Alchemist by metisket)
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
No and I hope I never do cuz that’s such an insanely disrespectful and shitty thing to do
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but I would be thrilled to have any of my fics translated…so long as the translation is hosted on ao3
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
My best friend helped me out with the kissing scenes in sometimes i wish i kept some of my feelings in the basement so that’s about the closest to co-writing I’ve ever gotten. I’d love to fully co-write with someone one day though
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
Hmm difficult question. It’s hard for me to have an all-time favorite ship cuz my favorite ship is usually going to be whoever holds the spot of brainrot of the moment. As I currently don’t have a single ship that’s taking the cake rn, I’m going to say Andreil because they hold the record for longest time of being brainrot of the moment for me (19 months, which I know doesn’t sound like a long time but you have to consider that it’s my default state to be in a lot of fandoms at the same time, so the fact that I was for the most part only focused on AFTG for a sizable period of time is highly unusual for me). I have to give a shout-out to Merthur though cuz they’re responsible for turning my fandom participation from passive (solely reading fic) to active (actually writing fic and engaging with fandom communities…that is to say Merthur was part of the driving force behind me creating this tumblr, though Andreil is the ship that got me to actually start posting lol)
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
So I’ve got this AFTG Hunger Games au that I’ve been unable to write because every time I sit down to try to write something for it, I get a new idea to add to my outline for the au and then next thing I know I’ve done no actual writing and I’ve just made the outline longer. And now I just stare at the monster of an outline I’ve made and get too intimidated to write the fic cuz it’s just soooo long. And I don’t like posting fics unless I know they could stand on their own (even if they’re a part of a series) so the likelihood of me ever posting anything for this au is becoming sadly less and less likely as time goes on
16. What are your writing strengths?
I’m not sure actually. Prob characterization cuz that’s usually what I get complimented on the most in fics
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
1000% dialogue. Every bit of dialogue I’ve ever written has been an excruciating process where I hold the screen with a death grip and ask “would he/she/they fucking say that????” I hate writing people talking so much, it’s just exhausting for me, especially in a large group setting, which is prob why my default type of fic to write is usually a short introspective character study of some sort 😂
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I would never do it myself cuz unfortunately I’m a lame American who is only fluent in English, but I love reading it in other fics (…if it’s done well cuz I’ve seen some very cringey and awkward instances of multilingual dialogue in fic over the years)
19. First fandom you wrote for?
The 1st fic I ever wrote that I posted on ao3 was for BBC Merlin (which I’ve since orphaned cuz the fic is kinda cringe). But before that, I took a creative writing class and our 1st writing assignment was essentially write a fanfiction (the prompt was literally “write a variation on an existing story”). I chose to write a story inspired by Monsta X’s DRAMARAMA music video and accidentally used the names of 2 guys in my class for the main characters (in my defense, it was the 1st week of class and the names were very generic American boy names). So I guess technically that was my 1st fanfiction 😂
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
sometimes i wish i kept some of my feelings in the basement. I really popped off with that one. It’s the only fic of mine that I actively reread for fun and I’ve been trying to replicate whatever was in the water when I wrote that fic ever since
No pressure tagging (apologies if you’ve already done this I haven’t been keeping track 😂): @seasy33 @bisexualbard @quensty @nanatsuyu @justadreamfox @worldenough-and-time @kairospy

Hello again! I know we talked like… literally a day ago and I got very distracted with talking about another subject (sorry about that, that was on me).
I’ve reached chapter ten of ITSBASM!! (I know you probably don’t need an update report on my reading of your fanfic lol but let me compliment you please)
And I haven’t even read THAT far into the story but oh my word… you’re one of the most talented writers hands down. You’re so descriptive, you’re great at slow burn (and normally I really dislike slow burn because I can be impatient lol but your slow burn is amazing).
The fact that you did research for the story is really awesome (and definitely tricky to find accurate and/or helpful information. It can also be difficult to find the exact information you might need so kudos to you!)!
Here’s my rant about your series so far (sorry if I mess anything up or if my rant sounds choppy, I am writing this as my brain thinks at the speed of light)
(Sort of spoilers for those who don’t want spoilers)
I love Gwilym so much. I also love his friendship with Rami and jeez Joe is honestly such a mood at times lol. I’m so so so pleased with the dynamics and even though they aren’t the wholesome family we know and love yet, that’s alright.
I of course feel bad for East since he certainly wanted his crew to be able to adjust to their “new life” and how East made sure they’d all be alright before he sadly died. I do like how you had John feel remorse towards East and his death, even though his last interaction with East wasn’t very pleasant. It shows that John did respect East nonetheless.
I also wanted to compliment you on how amazing you were able to describe Gwilym’s emotions and feelings. I love how you implemented Joe telling Rami that no matter how much he wants to help Gwilym feel even a little bit better, it’s ultimately up to Gwilym to “get better” if you know what I mean.
And I also love how you have written Ben. He is definitely the youngest out of them and to have such tough responsibilities and jobs, you’ve created the perfect atmosphere and mood to show that Ben is wise and smart beyond his years and beyond what people assume of him just because of his age.
Gwilym and Rami’s friendship is written amazingly and I’m absolutely loving it! Joe and Ben’s friendship is also amazingly strong and I love that as well! I love all the moments with Gwilym and Rami and Ben and Joe, again I’m a sucker for special friendship dynamics!
Anyways I just wanted to tell you about how I feel with the series (I awkwardly don’t have an account yet on AO3 so I can’t reply on that… I’ll end up making an account someday but not this day lol).
But yeah again, I absolutely am loving your series and it’s probably going to be one of my absolute top favorites ever so yeah!
And by the way, if you don’t want me to continue to send you asks about your series, just let me know! I can be quite obnoxious at times lol. But yeah your series is amazing!
You can send me as many asks as you want, oh my gosh, I don't mind at all. If you don't want me to publish my responses or want me to just message you privately, please let me know! I don't want to post anything that you don't want people to see.
Chapter 10 is always where I thought, if this were a TV show, Chapter 10 would be the end of season one, with Gwil coming out of his room. So, that's a pretty good turning point in the story. There is still a lot more to come but that was a pretty big step for Gwil.
I loved writing all their friendships, as they grow and get closer, Gwil and Joe will have their little moments (bigger moments as things go on) and same with Ben and Rami. I enjoyed writing the romances and obviously I think a lot of people were on board with them, but I knew that just as many people, if not more, wanted a story about their friendship and as I was writing it, I just wanted them all to be a really happy group of four.
As for all the compliments, I will happily take them and tell you how much I appreciate them. I think I have other shorter stories, one shots, that I would rather read, but in terms of like, the world created, ITBASM is probably the best thing I've ever written. It's definitely the story that made me really feel like a writer, and it helped me through some dark times. So, I'm really happy you're enjoying it, thank you for letting me know :)

Twenty Questions for Fic Writers
Tagged by @1lostsoul0fishbowl <3
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
9 with many more planned
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
211803 at this time, between all fics
3. What fandoms do you write for?
All my works at this time are for Stranger Things, but I have some starters in progress in google docs for The Witcher and Shadow and Bone
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
I Was Born to Love You - Modern Steddie AU with hints of other ships - One-shot
Extroverts and Introverts - Eddie/OC - Series
How It Should Have Been - Eddissy/Hellcheer centric overall ST AU fix-it - Series
Life Is Ours, We Live It Our Way - Edancy (Eddie/Nancy) AU season 3 timeline - Series
Tied for 5th:
The Unnamed Feeling - Billy/OC - Series
Running Away, Running Toward - Eddissy (aka Hellcheer) ‘Chrissy lives’ AU - Series
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I do as often as I can, but while I read them all I don’t always have time or energy for replies
6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I haven’t written any such endings, tbh.  I’m too much of a sucker for happy endings (and I don’t mean that sexually).  Plus, aside from one-shots, I haven’t finished any of my fics yet.  They’re all works in progress.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Both of my one-shots, mainly because no other fics have endings yet xD
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not yet, and I hope I never do.  I already have self-esteem issues related to a combo of abuse lasting from 6-7ish through 15/16 and bullying from as far back as preschool up through those same years.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I do on occasion, when the mood strikes.  The fluffy kind that involves 18+ only.  All lovey and shit.  Little bit of kink to it but nothing hardcore.  No slapping, degradation, humiliation, etc.  No underage of any kind, no scato/uro/necro/emeto type paraphilias, no cheating.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I haven’t done so yet, but I’m not ruling out the possibility.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
To my knowledge, no
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not that I’m aware of
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not exactly, but I do forum-based RP so… kind of adjacent maybe?
14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
Oh my goddess.  Don’t ask me this.  Especially without narrowing it down to a single fandom.  I have -far- too many ships I love, both canon and otherwise lmao.
15. What’s a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Hell if I know.  It may take me forever and a day, but I do intend to finish all my fics one way or another.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Uhm…. not sure on this one. I'm too harsh a critic of myself to be able to accurately answer this.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I refuse to write fics that involve cheating or love triangles, especially those involving any main characters of said fic. A little jealousy here and there is the most I'll do, and not with any regularity.  I have ONE fic that involves active abuse and only included the bare minimum necessary for that.  (It’s the Billy/OC fic I mentioned above.)  I can’t and won’t do more than the minimum, b/c it’s a triggery subject for me so I have to be very careful with reading or writing such subject matter. I also feel like people may not enjoy my smutty scenes as much as they do other writers', because I don't do the heavy BDSM (spit, slapping, spanking, degradation, humiliation, etc) that so many others do.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I’m only fluent in English, so I’d need the help of Google Translate for that.  I’ve used it for RP stuff, but not in fic writing yet.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
I can’t remember exactly.  First fandom RP was… I -think- Star Wars.  First published fanfic was Stranger Things (Running Away, Running Toward).  First fandom writing at all… ummm… maybe some Disney thing or other when I was a kid?  I’m not entirely sure.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
This is like asking me to pick which of my 4 cats is my favorite hahahahaha.  But also, I regularly question my skills as a writer, b/c self-esteem issues.  >.>

Care to share one or more of your takes you would consider controversial for atla.
Ooh this is tough cause I feel like I’m constantly sharing my ATLA opinions so they’re mostly known 😅
A rundown of bullet point takes that I won’t budge on & think are straightforward but see people debating constantly anyway 👁👁
The Boiling Rock Betrayal was well written & did make sense people just over complicate it. Mai & Ty Lee deserved more detailed examinations of their views in other instances but it’s extremely plain what happened in this instance: adrenaline fueled actions were taken in an emergency / life threatening situation. Mai & Ty Lee weren’t wrong to save lives (it also wasn’t planned? why & how do people think it was?) & Azula was sympathetic for being hurt after the betrayal (but she was still unequivocally the villain here)
We don’t know enough about Ursa from the show to truly know what her relationship with Azula was like, making multiple interpretations of the dynamic equally valid
This is less about the show itself (though the comics & the writers being insecure about their canon ship don’t help) & more the fandom but K.at.Aang vs. Z.utara arguments are some of the most obnoxious pointless arguments I’ve ever seen & the slander toward both Aang & Zuko from opposing sides is REALLY sad considering their friendship & character arcs are at the heart of the show. It’s a kid’s show y’all calm down you can want whichever cartoon characters you want to kiss it’s not that serious. These arguments also tend to frame Katara as a prize to be won rather than one of the most badass characters in her own right & it’s uncomfortable
Anti Zuko takes from Azula fans & anti Azula takes from Zuko fans are both equally embarrassingly hypocritical & ugly
Hm okay a lot of these have had to do with the Fire Nation characters, let’s mix it up. Sokka isn’t a super genius OR a dumbass. He’s someone who would get bad grades for not doing his homework cause it’s boring but he aces every test. He’d explain some complicated physics subject to you then eat pizza out of the garbage in front of you. This one might not be *that* controversial but I do feel like I see debates over his intelligence lol
Southern Raiders is a great episode & it’s not about shipping (I mean it *can* be but that’s not the main point) it’s about opposing ideologies. Katara not necessarily forgiving Yon Rha but also not killing him is an AMAZING Katara moment where she makes the best choice for HER. If you hate this episode cause of shipping discourse or bad takes or whatever you’re missing out on an excellent episode that finally explores the anger & grief Katara has over her mother’s death. I see so much discourse over this episode but I try to ignore it cause it’s one of my favorite episodes & I don’t want fandom bs to ruin that for me
I loved Jet & felt like there was a lot to explore in this kid who’s charming & manipulative because he had to become that way because of trauma & wanted to care for other kids. I loved his dynamic with Katara & later Zuko & seeing how he’d changed. I initially thought his death, while it made me sad, was narratively fair to drill home the brutality of war. But the vagueness & later jokey callback changed my mind. Can’t drill home brutality if you’re gonna write it like *that.*
Final take & this is about the fandom at large: we forget this is an early 2000s kid’s show. It was fantastic storytelling visually beautiful & we wouldn’t still be talking about it if the characters didn’t grip us. The endless discourse & debates over things that don’t matter are tiring & ultimately a waste of time & energy - so that’s my final unpopular atla take for the day 😄 (also I’m NOT claiming to be guiltless when it comes to partaking in these debates lol) (also this isn’t about *analysis* which is always fun I’m talking more about discourse over dumb shit like why iroh gave azula a doll)
Thanks for the ask!

🌟Writer Appreciation🌟
When you get this show of our five of your favorite fics and five fics you like from other writers then send this to at least one other person.
🥰 thanks so much
Hmm - don’t know if I have five favourite fics of my own although the pegging series has a very very special place in my heart - but this has to be all time favourite fic from another writer:
It’s from the Hockey RPF fandom - Sidney Crosby/Geno Malkin
Tumblr media
Link won’t work because it’s locked but I have read this so many times and have listened to the podfic of it even more.
It is so well written 🥰
Here’s the link to the podfic though:
This one is also from the Hockey RPF fandom - Sid and Geno and is so damn fluffy you have a smile on your face the entire time.
Tumblr media
This is a Hannigram Fic (Will Graham/Hannibal Lector) and is fucking Brilliant and insanely well written.
Consenting to dream:
And I have to say - those that do podfic of stories are god damn rockstars.
This one here is the darkest thing I ever read I think and is the only time I started a WIP (I try to avoid those) and would wait for updates / I would literally wake up every day and first thing I’d do was check to see if it was updated
I haven’t read it since it ended but, TBH, thinking about it now and the subject matter, I don’t know if it’s influenced my Mercy is a Sharp Knife story - along with the research and real life stories I’ve read in regards to kidnapping and brainwashing.
Brooklyn Syndrome
I actually read that because of the first story in the series:
And this has to be my all time favourite smut writer (and there are several podfics) :

@clockworkspider tagged me, so I’ll give it a whirl!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Thirty.  I keep thinking I should write more, but then I get distracted by roleplaying, deciding to move continents again, that sort of thing.  Not this year because this year I’m moving continents again and I wanna pass the JPLT N2 but next year I think will be the year I do more writing.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
119,672 words.  Lame tbh.
3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Tumblr media
Ante(de)grade(ation) deserves it, though I really think Arc-V is a terrible show.  I feel a little bit bad about my top fic being for a series I think is garbage, because it means I don’t like engaging with people who enjoyed it.  But when I write for something I really like, I get intimidated, so... It’s always something or another.
4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Sometimes.  It kind of depends on the comment.  See my commentary on the above question.
5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Ante or Capgras Syndrome.  They have the exact same themeing even if the setting/plot is different so I ended them more or less the same way.
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
The Best Revenge is Living Well or Dear Forgiveness, where these are both very different fandoms but the ending is the same sort of theme: accepting that things have changed and you can’t go back to how things used to be but moving forward while carrying your past with you.  Same-ass ending.  Dear Forgiveness, is about reconciliation and The Best Revenge is about finding understanding, and one is between [Exes?  what the fuck do you call Shu and Nazuna, they’re basically exes] and the other is the Arclight family.  So whichever the reader thinks is happier kind of depends on the reader’s priorities.  I think they’re about even but I’d understand if someone preferred one to the other.
7. Do you write crossovers?
I’ve written three, but the point of two of them was kind of bridging the gap between ygo Zexal and Arc-V since it was originally heavily implied they were the same series but with a time-gap.  Then Konami fucked it, so I lost interest in finishing.  The other was a one-shot that was basically the same function, but with ygo GX + 5Ds.  So technically, yes.  However, I’m not particularly likely to do two casts fell through a portal and meet each other or whatever.  I’m not big into Isekai.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Nope.  I’ve gotten comments like `I don’t usually read incest`, but since they’re complimentary I can’t mind it.  Even though I think it’s a bit silly that they’re telling me their moral stance on the subject matter before being like I liked it anyway though.  If I wrote for bigger fandoms or wrote more prolifically, I’d probably get hate.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I don’t usually, but I’ve written some.  I think the only smut I’ve posted to ao3 was two vampires and it was quite violent.  Like one of them slitting the other from groin to sternum mid-coitus.  So, gratuitous darkfic tbh.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I’m aware of, but also why would you want to.
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes.  Into Chinese.  Ante was one, and I forget the other but I remember giving permission for it.
 12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes, Saturnaila which I co-wrote with Kaz.  Honestly, I’d love to co-write more, it’s motivating to be working with another person.
13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
All time makes this very hard to qualify.  No idea.
14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Saturnaila.
15. What are your writing strengths?
I like to think I’m good at understanding character psychology and writing distinct character voice.
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
Low motivation.  If I don’t think anyone else is interested (which is most of the time) I probably won’t turn anything out and my tastes are... what they are, so...
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I don’t mind it, so long as the author knows the language in question.  If they google translated though it’s like... please don’t do that.  But I grew up on pretentious Good Omens and Hetalia fic that had footnotes as long as the fics themselves.  I imagine that biases my answer somewhat.
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
YGO DM way back in middle school.  I never posted them and they probably exist only in notebooks that have long since been tossed.
19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?
I’ve got two fics for mcyt I might do at some point, though I’ll likely have to make an alt to post them just because that fandom is insane.  I’ve got more enstars to do at some point, some WataTomo, some EiShu, some IzuLeo.
20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
Capgras Syndrome.
And I’m tagging @hopefulrefrain!

A, E, O (😂), W 💕
fanfic writer ask meme!
A - Of the fanfic you’ve written, which is your favorite and why?
I honestly love all of my fics, because writing fanfic is something I never thought I’d do and I love being creative in that way… I just sat here for forever and I don’t think I can pick one 😂 so i’m going to pick a few!
there’s more than one way to lose your mind:  I love this one because it’s my first poetry fic and I got to mix “stuff happening” with pretty words – best of both worlds! Lol
you took me by surprise and left me falling like rain: This one was fun because it was something different, I don’t write Peterpatter often even though I like them a lot, and I think it had a decent amount of plot and drama in it! It also came together so well, I wrote it in only a few days if I remember correctly!
consider me the pearly gates (to your new favorite thrills): the start of our club AU! This was another one that was super easy to write and I have no idea how since it’s probably the most plotty thing I’ve ever written lol. There are so many sentences/paragraphs in here that I’ve looked back on like, “omg I can’t believe I wrote that”!
stuck in my head (with nothing left): this one too, the way I phrased some things in here, words that I used, were really cool and I’m proud of a lot of the linguistics of this fic (even though the subject matter was super difficult and I could have gone a lot deeper into it if I had wanted to/wasn’t so scared to)
i wasted it all just to watch you go: this one was like, projection times infinity, but I really love how it turned out because it combined my actual feelings with pretty words and characterization that I think turned out pretty decently!
i was never permanent: this one will always have a special place in my heart because it’s a Luke projection fic, which is when I’m at my strongest writing-wise, but it also came after a long period of writer’s block and actually got me out of a slump!
life sucks, and then: my first fic ever and i’m just super proud and fond of this one because it got me started writing fic in the first place. it’s a short thing that has a small section for each of the sunset curve guys and when I was writing it I didn’t really care about the characterization much, but I just love the tone of it. And I really love that Bobby part at the end with the matryoshka doll metaphor!
E - What character do you identify with most?  Is there a certain fic of yours that captures these qualities particularly well?
I don’t…… know the answer to this, really… I feel like I should know it better lol.
Julie and I are similar in a lot of ways. Like, letting loss/the fear of loss overpower passion. I’m like Luke in the fact that I’m annoying (/affectionate???) and I love my friends, and I don’t usually shut up (about it or… anything else really lol). I care about the people in my life a lot and I’m always willing to fight for them (or yell at them to fight for themselves). And, I tend to run away from problems/not want to dwell on serious subjects.
Most of my fics, though, tend to be about Luke because I feel like, for some reason, I can get into his head the best. I’m most comfortable there. I got a few comments on “i was never permanent” about my Luke characterization that I really appreciated! (it’s funny because that was a projection fic and it’s in Luke’s POV and everyone liked his characterization… so I guess that also answers the first part of your question 😂)
O - What are your thoughts on people writing fanfic of your fanfic?
Incredible, 1000000000/10, fic will definitely come out better and be a million times more enjoyable and I will probably think about it forever. This person wrote an amazing fic based on this Willex proposal fic I banged out to make people mad at me (and put barely any thought into) and made the whole universe and scenario SO MUCH BETTER and I loved it so much. And @hufflebibin also wrote one, even though I don't think it was a fanfic of my fic, it was inspired by it because she felt the need to "balance the universe" 😂
And you always inspire me, so many of my fics I consider basically collabs because we’re pretty much always writing together 😂 I still can’t believe you loved my club AU enough to continue it and make it OURS (and then totally took it to places I was too scared to and made it so much more heart-wrenching and amazing).
My favorite thing about writing fanfic to begin with is the collaborability (which I benefit from immensely because I use fake-ass words like COLLABORABILITY lol) and getting to talk about the show and share your love of it and create cool things WITH people you care about. Co-writing or writing for people is always so much more gratifying to me than just writing something and tossing it out into the void.
W - What is your favorite pairing to write?  Favorite pairing to read?
Honestly I like writing gen/character-centric fics better than romance, because I’m shitty at writing romance, but Juke is my favorite ship in the show, so probably Juke (bonus because of course Luke is part of it lol – actually, any Luke ship is awesome. I love writing Lukebobby, and Peterpatter is also fun! Juke is my number one though!)
And my favorite pairing to read is also Juke, but also Lukebobby and also sometimes Peterpatter. I haven’t really been reading as much fic lately but those are the ones I gravitate towards!

Majoring in English was the best decision I've ever made.
Tumblr media
"The life of an English major is a poetic expedition, where syllables transform into sonnets, paragraphs become prose, and every written word is a stepping stone toward enlightenment."
Passion, dedication, and motivation are essential qualities for English majors. Hello, my name is Ivy! and I am a student majoring in English.
Let us begin with the subject of why I picked this particular course
And the reason is that it was just my favorite subject in high school. I expected it to be an easy-peasy task, but my journey has taught me that expecting the unexpected really matters in this course.
Is it a roller coaster ride?
My first day as an English major thrills me to the point where I am too optimistic that I will easily pass this course, yet I am completely mistaken. Why? Because of other people's expectations and pressures placed on me, yeah, you heard me correctly: people's expectations and pressures are a lot more difficult than comprehending the underlying meaning of a book. People frequently ask me, "What is your course?"" And then they were shocked when I said, "I'm majoring in English." So, I sense the expectation on their faces, like I need to be perfect in my grammar, I'm not allowed to mispronounce things, and when they ask an English phrase, my answer must be correct. Then I have a sudden doubt: will I be able to make them proud? Is it possible for me to finish it? But, as I've continued, I've realized that it doesn't really matter; what matters is that I pass my major examinations in the morning and successfully give my report in the evening.
Still, this isn't the end of my and many other English majors' struggles. Of course, studying for the major is really difficult. I read almost the entire library in order to understand the works of notable authors such as Geoffrey Chaucer, William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, Mary Shelley, Jane Austen, and others. But, to be honest, I get tired of reading literature at times, but literature is genuinely vital since it helps us comprehend life better. Choosing this major provides me with several opportunities to study and get experience in areas such as reporting in full English, impromptu question and answer, theatrical arts, and creative writing speeches, essays, and poems. I also boost my self-esteem and make new friends who share my interests.
Tumblr media
Indeed, there will be more difficult and easy experiences along the way, more examinations, reports, and quizzes to pass, more Shakespearean sonnets to write and read, and many people's expectations and demands to overcome. If anything, I guess that's the light at the end of the tunnel.
"Being an English major makes me experience a roller coaster ride, but at the end of the day, it is truly the best decision I’ve made."

7) what do you love most abt being a fic writer for your fandom?
THE PEOPLE. you guys are so nice!!!! like honestly, this is the coolest, most nontoxic fandom I’ve ever been in. it’s great, I have a good time, I can share my writing and people are SO NICE ABOUT IT. like, I’ve gotten so many comments that genuinely make me giggle and grin and like, sometimes I want to kiss you guys silly. you’re all so supportive and kind and I love u all and I’m so lucky to have a place here.
9.) what inspired you to write your first fic?
ok so before I joined the fob fandom and started writing rpf I mainly wrote for the umbrella academy, which I got into through my friend, who is a fic writer in that fandom— (she’s @chickadee2008 on ao3, go give her some love!) she showed me one of the fics she’d written and since I write, I figured I’d give it a try. I don’t write tua that much anymore, but it’s definitely made an impact on my relationship with fandom and its artists. if you really want to find my tua writing, it’s not on ao3, but some of it might be on my main blog from like two years ago (should be linked in my pinned post).
12.) what’s your favorite theme/subject matter/ trope/ ship to write about? why?
I used to like writing angst. now, it’s kind of harder to get into the space of writing that. I think it’s because its so dark in reality I don’t really want to add to that. that sounds kind of pretentious of me in retrospect. I really like to write fluff, because it’s a) easier, and b) fun. also, people seem to like it. I’m a big fan of realistic fiction, also; I’m considering doing more aus but with fall out boy’s history being as crazy as it is writing realistically for their timeline really is a lot of fun.
as for favorite ship, I’ve gotta say peterick is just so fun to write specifically because there’s SO MUCH to go off of, like, they practically write the fic themselves. jalex is also really fun because of the whole childhood friends to lovers thing. my rpf mentality is more for fun— of course they all have committed relationships to other people and in reality they are probably not together, but there IS evidence pointing otherwise, and also, it’s just really fun to pretend. am I gonna harass the people about it? fuck no. am I gonna write rpf where they kiss? hell yea.
I derailed a bit— but anyway, thank you so much for the ask!!!!

I just read (Sometimes) for the first time. I don’t know how it took me so long, I’ve been keeping up with make way for ducklings since the first chapter. But wow, (Sometimes) made me feel things. The way you were able to write that and literally break me to pieces— gosh that’s talent. You’re truly so talented.
No pressure here from me for a sequel, but have you ever considered what ends happening to matty? If he’s able to heal and be okay with George and the boys? I would love to hear your thoughts
!!!!!
First off, thank you so much for reading Make Way for Ducklings! That fic is one of my precious babies and I was so nervous about posting it since I hadn't seen any other mpreg in the fandom and I was worried people were going to hate it, or me or worse totally ignore it. Instead, it seems to have found an audience and I could not be happier about it! What started out as a very self indulgent project turned into something that other people enjoy! Which is so absolutely amazing and makes me so thankful to all the nice people on the internet 🥰
(Sometimes) is probably one of my favorite fic that I've ever written, like top 3 for sure, and was another one I was nervous about posting (is this a trend? Me being nervous? it might be a trend) because of the delicate subject matter. I'm so immensely proud of it and am so happy that other people have enjoyed it and that it has made them ~feel things~ I feel bad about it, but making Fictional!Matty suffer brings me a lot of joy and I love that other people enjoy his fictional hardship as well.
Thank you so, so, so much for your kind words about my writing! I honestly teared up reading this ask, I love writing SO MUCH, both fanfiction and original fiction and to get positive feedback from people? (Or honestly any kind of feedback) is just so incredible and I am so incredibly thankful. I had an English Teacher in 9th grade that told me I was an awful writer, and that I had no talent for it and had no business pursuing it, so I should just stop trying to force it (The best is that I still have it ALL in the email she wrote it in printed out as motivation) and so every comment, every hit, every kudos is an extremely validating F You to her.
In terms of a sequel/companion to (Sometimes) it is something that I have considered and have played around with. I'm not sure if it's something that will ever get fully fleshed out or posted, it currently lives in the very rough bullet point stage of outlining in the Notes app on my phone, but from what I do have, Fictional!Matty is very much (obviously and rightfully) not okay, and it takes a lot and a long time for him to feel okay or like things might be okay again. One of the big notes I have is him navigating how physical and affectionate the guys all are with each other, and also the blatant size difference between the rest of the guys and Matty and how he feels about that after being physically violated and overpowered. Maybe if I ever finish one of my twenty thousand others WIPs I'll flesh it out and post it! Either in completed form or my bullets on Tumblr.
Sorry for the worlds longest response to your ask! I got a little over excited and had to geek out over my own fic. If you made it this far, thank you so much again for your kind words and for reading! They really mean so much to me!
❤️Ally

12, 13 and 40 for the weird writing asks, please! (I love these too!)
Hello anon!
Thank you, thank you! :D (So glad to know you love these, too.)
12. If a genie offered you three writing wishes, what would they be? Btw if you wish for more wishes the genie turns all your current WIPs into Lorem Ipsum, I don’t make the rules.
Ooh these are always so tough.
I would wish that I could control the volume of anywhere I'm writing. Sometimes the library and cafes get really loud, and I don't always have my headphones with me/want to wear them. It would be awesome if I could turn up and down the volume of the noise around me.
I'd wish for a house. A cozy place I could call home and write in. I'd ask for a room for writing, a room for guests, a room for illustration, and a library. If I could also have bay windows and fireplaces, that would be wonderful. And if it could also be located near (not on) a body of water, I'd love that.
I'd wish for a laptop that I could upgrade or change (and replace) at any time, without cost. Do I need a new processor? Done. Bigger screen? Done. Smaller screen? Boom. Two screens? Why not! Dropped it? Broke it? No worries, it'll fix itself.
13. What is a subject matter that is incredibly difficult for you write about? What is easy?
It's incredibly difficult for me to write about amnesia. Idk why but I just have never been able to write it, despite a few attempts. I think it's the consent issue, even though I've written (a lot of) non-con before. Amnesia just feels different to me. I also find body horror tough to write. It takes some serious effort on my part to write that. I've always struggled with writing about police/military and will not write it anymore.
What's easier to write for me is slice of life stuff. I love finding moments of the mundane that end up meaning a lot. I want whatever I'm writing to feel like a Studio Ghibli movie, where you find beauty in everyday things. It's easy for me to write domestic scenes.
40. Please share a poem with me, I need it.
Oh my goodness, just one?! Okay. Let's see. I'll go with trusty Richard Siken, with his poem, "Wishbone." My favorite line is: "If you love me, Henry, you don’t love me in a way I understand." You can read the whole poem here.
And because I can't give you just one, I'm going to give you a poem I would love to have tattooed on me one day. It's so short, I'll post it here:
“she asked ‘you are in love, what does love look like’ to which i replied ‘like everything i’ve ever lost come back to me.”
—Nayyirah Waheed, Salt
Thank you, anon! This was truly a pleasure to answer. <3
