Love is Patient, Love is Blind - Ch. 1
At first, they weren’t sure Jon would make it.
Martin woke up in the basement of Hilltop Road, curled around Jon’s body in the same protective embrace he’d held him in at the Panopticon what felt like only moments before.
It was Jon’s body and not Jon because his heart wasn’t beating. He’d needed to die to cut the tether, so that’s what he’d done.
Martin didn’t know how he’d gotten Jon’s heart going again. He’d learned enough from caring for his mum to know that CPR didn’t work on people who died from physical trauma. Restarting your heart didn’t matter when you’d been killed by blood loss.
But Martin panicked and tried anyway and somehow it worked.
He immediately bundled his shirt over the wound to stop further bleeding and found an old wired phone at the bottom of the stairs. Praying it worked, he dialed the one number he had memorized: Basira’s.
By some miracle, she picked up.
“Martin?” she’d said, incredulous, and then spent the next minute trying to calm Martin down enough to understand what he was saying. “I’m on my way, keep him from bleeding out.”
Five minutes later there was a knock and, surprised Basira had been so close, Martin dashed upstairs to let her in.
It wasn’t Basira.
A man with a large briefcase and long coat stood on the step. “Basira called me. Where is he?”
“I- w-what? Who are you?”
The man pushed inside impatiently. “Dr. Midec, a friend of Basira’s. Now, take me to your friend so I can keep him alive.”
“Boyfriend,” Martin muttered as he led the doctor down. He opened his case to reveal an array of medical equipment. Martin watched him work, trying to stay out of the way and help where he could. Please don’t die, Jon, you promised together, don’t go where I can’t follow, hold on Jon, hold on…
And  then the doctor was asking for Martin’s hand to prick a finger and test blood type. The time it took to process was the longest five minutes of Martin’s life, even as he watched the doctor set up a field transfusion kit just in case.
O Negative. He could save Jon.
He gladly held out his arm and nearly sighed with relief watching the blood pump through the tubing. A forever and a half later, color began to creep back into Jon’s cheeks and his breathing seemed easier. Martin started to relax, just a little.
Then Basira was there exchanging rapid words with the doctor but Martin was too exhausted to bother paying attention. He held Jon’s hand and allowed himself to drift for a while. He woke when Basira shoved orange juice and a small packet of biscuits into his hands and ordered him to drink up. He obeyed without argument.
He realized the doctor was gone. When had he left?
Basira sat next to him as he nibbled his biscuits without speaking; she seemed to understand his silence.
The doctor returned, carrying a new suitcase and a long, bagged object. He gave the suitcase to Basira and opened the bag to reveal a cot. He swiftly set it up, then he and Basira gently moved Jon onto it. Then the doctor left again.
“What happened?”
Martin blinked at Basira, who was sitting next to him against the wall again. He opened his mouth, closed it, and then tried again. He numbly explained everything to her, the words spilling out of him as if on their own accord. He told her about how after he sent them to blow the  gas line he ran up the stairs as fast as he could, how when he burst into the room at the top of the Panopticon he’d thought he’d made it on time. Then he’d seen Elias’s body and he felt like his life had ended too.
Basira’s horrified expression melted into pity as he told her about how he’d tried to get Jon to leave, get him out of the tower; how there was no other choice, that Jon held him and curled into him as they were swept away by the Web, how Jon died in his arms. That he woke up here and somehow… somehow Jon was still here and they had a chance.
And then Basira told him that it had been a year. A whole year since they stopped the Nightmare World. She explained that people remembered, and people knew that the Archivist started all of it; that even though the memory was fading, like a bad dream, there were still a lot of people who would know Jon and a lot that would want to hurt him.
“But… he saved them.”
“Most of them don’t care,” Basira said not unkindly. “It’s probably best the two of you stay out of sight for a while. Harv and I will take care of everything for you until it’s safe to move Jon.”
“Where can we go?” Martin asked miserably.
“We’ll figure it out. For now both of you need to rest. No-” she said, holding up her hand to stop Martin’s next question. “I’ll answer more questions when you’re a little more coherent. You look l ready to pass out any moment.”
Martin acquiesced, lacking the energy to argue. She wasn’t wrong.
Dr. Midec returned with a second cot, which Basira helped him set up next to Jon’s.
“I’ll be back in about an hour with some blankets and food,” Basira promised. “Nobody comes in here, so as long as you’re quiet, you should be reasonably safe. I own the property anyway, so it’s not like you’re squatting.”
Martin’s brow furrowed, but he knew she would only shake her head. She was right; he was tired. After Dr. Midec assured him he would check in every hour and Basira further promised to return with supplies soon, Martin crawled onto his cot and, with his hand firmly clasped around Jon’s, fell asleep.

My theory is that the reason Peter Lukas and Jonah Magnus have such a strained relationship is that Jonah has been stealing Peters Lonely-Aligned people to work for the institute. Like the wiki says that he deliberately picks people who he knows wouldn't be noticed if they went missing, so people who are already aligned with the lonely are prime candidates. I think it annoys the shit out of Peter that Jonah keeps taking people who are aligned with the lonely and making them work an office job together.

Daisy: Basira, why did you gave Melanie a knife?
Basira: She was feeling unsafe.
Daisy: Well now I'm feeling unsafe.
Basira: *matter of factly* No, you're not.
Daisy: *pouts*
Basira: Do you want a knife?
Daisy: YES! : )
.
Martin: Heeeey, Basira, my friend, long time no see. I made some fresh new tea for you, do you fancy Almond? I can make a different type if you preffer. I'll even make *shudders in disgust* Oolong.
Basira: You just want a knife, don't you?
Martin: *sheepshly* Yeah.
Basira: *rolls her eyes* Here.
Martin: Nice : ) Thank you! : D
.
Jon: Why does EVERYONE on the archives has a knife but me? That's terrifying.
Basira: You can handle it.
Jon: At least two of this people have already stabbed me!!! Please give me a knife for self-defense.
Basira: Sorry, out of knifes, better luck next time.

I so understand why ppl like making content where Jon and Daisy are friends but have you considered the fact that um. They wouldn't be.
#raf's rambles#akdjqjd okay I'm not gonna be mean abt people's fanon (even though I often am whoops)#but. Yeah.#the way people portray Daisy in general is kinda weird#but like. What makes Daisy a good character is the fact that she's not good!!!#what she's done! Unjustifiable! And she knows it!! And instead of wallowing in that. She tries to be better. And she doesn't ask#for the people she hurt to forgive her#she's trying to be better for the sake of being better! Not to be 'redeemed' in the eyes of better. Not to 'make up' for what she's done#not to undo her badness. But to work towards something better bc she wants to be#The thing that makes Jon and Daisy interesting it's that. They are the only two characters in the show that understand what it means#to be part of an entity. That I feel like is why Jon; even if he didn't forgive her; was still civil and willing to help her#because he understands her. And she understands him.#but they aren't friends. He's uncomfortable around her; I think that much is clear#She /scares/ him. He said he never felt more hopeless than when she dragged him to the forest to kill him. She was proud to show off the#new scar she left on him. He wouldn't be friends with her!!!!#and she wouldn't ASK for his friendship either!! She wouldn't expect that from him!!! She wouldn't /want/ that from him#bc she understands that she's hurt him!! And she can't take that back!!! But she can convince him to get out of his office w her and Basira#and she can try to make herself less of a threatening presence. And she can be civil#and yeah idk this is getting away from me but yeah they wouldn't be friends#and honestly!! I don't think they'd be friends in any universe!#not /really/#not unless you entirelyyyyy change Daisy as a character#which ofc ppl have no qualms w doing. Which is fine!!! Have fun#but. Yeah!#my thoughts on that

mildred is canon in tma btw. she was there the whole time in s3 trying to stop the unknowing. the only reason we don't get to see her is bc she is horribly off-putting and no one talks to her. it's true

I’m aware that I’m definitely Jon Sims biased when I listen to TMA, he’s my favourite, so naturally it’s much easier for me to empathise with him. But every time I re-listen (I’ve lost count now but I think I’ve done 6?), I always legitimately try to let go of my bias and really consider the perspective of characters I instinctively disagree with. Something I’ve noticed is that, the one moment that always gets me, that I can never look past or empathise with, is Basira and Georgie’s response to Jon waking up in MAG 122.
It’s funny because I don’t think it is supposed to be some character defining moment for either of them and (maybe I’ve just missed it because I’m not super fandom active) I’ve never really heard anybody else talk about this. But the way they respond to him has always REALLY rubbed me wrong. Because I get it, they’re concerned about how much ‘Jon’ is really left inside the person sat in bed, but Jesus fuck. This guy wakes up after, as far as you know at the time, sacrificing himself to successfully save billions of people and the first thing you say is ‘no it’s not good you woke up actually’ - like damn he’s been conscious for 10 SECONDS could this not wait until later? Could you first idk, thank him? Say your glad to see your friend is still alive and save the ‘are you human?’ conversation for after he’s had a cuppa maybe?
The first thing you say to someone who’s woken up from a coma being ‘it’s not good you woke up’ just seems needlessly fucking cruel, regardless of how I attempt to spin it in my mind. And unless you’re literally talking to Satan the correct response to “Disappointed to see me alive?” is unequivocally NO not “We can deal with it later”.
Overall, there’s a difference between caution and callousness, and while I understand the desire to be cautious with Jon as how much of his humanity remains is unclear, this moment always tipped into callousness for me in a way I struggle to empathise with even when I really try.

I'm relistening to The Magnus Archives, and I made a list of Actual Canonical Details we as a fandom forget about
- sasha gets coffee from a specific coffee shop every morning
- Jon has an excellent sense of direction
- canonically in artifact storage there is: a wardrobe light cannot penetrate, a carved rock eye that interferes with the video cameras and therefore is kept in a black velvet bag, and a scalpel ride with disease no matter what they use to sterilize it, kept in a hermetically sealed plastic box
- during halloween week, they have to call in the archives as backup due to the influx of statements. jon canonically gets a good nights sleep after disproving these statements.
- Jon sincerely believes he is far too unlucky for statements to just be a hallucination
- Not-sasha asked not to be recorded multiple times
- when told he benifited from gertrude's death, jons only response was "...I didn't?"
- [daisy became police in ~2002, almost 15 years before the story starts...meaning she is canonically late thirties/early 40s
- even when compared with the paranormal, daisy considers car accidents worse
- mary keay made an eye pun "i know the institute and i haven't always seen eye to eye, as it were"
- jon noticed when ghost hunt uk stopped updating
- sasha is taller than not-sasha
- annabelle dresses like a vintage clothing store exploded on her, has bleach blonde hair and dark skin
- annabelle looked "like the type of person that talked to cleaners as if they were actual people"
- annabelle looms over the cleaner by almost a full foot, meaning she Tall
- "the moment i die will feel just the same as this one" is not just a georgie thing, it's an End thing in general, as proved in ep 70
- not-sasha tends to stay late
- martin worked at the institute in 2009
- micheal has curly sandy blonde hair
-micheal is tall
- melanie and jon are on the same wavelength, and when working together they both came to the same conclusions with the same evidence
- elias does not think daisy is smart
- georgie is observant, and pays attention to peoples behavior
- melanie thought jon killing someone with a pipe was "wildly out of character" for him
- georgie and jon have a mutual friend named Jess who thinks Hungarian food is "too Soviet"
- jon borrowed georgie's coat when he went to meet jude perry
- jon tells jude to kill him as an ultimatum every five minutes
- elias tells tim that when presented with horrors, he finds comfort in beaurocrocy
- jared hopworth is handsome with cheekbones and a jawline to die for
- georgie was canonically willing to cover for jon to the police with no context after an unpleasant breakup and after no contact for almost 5 years
- georgie grew up poor in liverpool, and had a scouse accent until she went to oxford
- basira is a huge nerd and will talk about what she's reading to anyone who will listen
- nikola makes an allusion to not having a face
- martin and melanie got along fantastically
- georgie told jon that he needs anchors
- "if something happened to you, or-or god forbid, The Admiral, I-"
- "Don't be a Stranger." georgie thinks she's funny
- michael had a childhood friend who was taken by something like michael (schizophrenic) and that's what drove him to the magnus institut-he never you over what he saw or didn't see
- Hannah is a black woman who works in the library, had a "Thing With The Milk In The Breakroom" in april 2016. Went on maternal leave to have a baby in June of 2017.
- elias enjoys scheduling
- martin zones out when he has to read a statement, and often takes little notice of his surroundings when doing so/about to do so
- martin was looking for a book called "marvelous spiritualism and the circus in tge 19th century" and a guy named tom said tim had it checked out
- danny and tim didn't talk much, but were still close
- Abigail Ellison-who tim calls abby- is a mutual friend of tim and danny's from "back home"
- tim shipped danny and abby
- out of the two of them, danny was more assertive and tim "had never been able to stand in the way of his confidence"
- tim has a big armchair, a printer, and a couch
- melanie has made everyone in the archives cry
- [basira loved wtg until it "took a weird turn in season 3" when they introduced something she thought was odd
- melanie, basira, and martin used to go out for drinks, and martin and basira were gossip buddies
- Melanie's dad had dementia relatively young, but he always remembered her. He called her "Little Moth", and her mothers life insurance helped pay for him to be put into Ivy Meadows Care Home-where he was killed by the Corruption at the hands of John Amherst before Julia and Trevor burnt it down.
- julia is in her early thirties and wears nondescript hard wearing denim
- jon thought that reading statements could be a classical addiction, but decided that even if it was he had no time to, as he put it, "experiment"
- Peter was surprised that elias killed people kimself-implying elias has people to do murders for him. what other murders did he commission
- martin and basira both noticed something wrong with melanie after the Elias Incidint when her work started to deteriorate-martin said she'd always been "quite conscientious"
- right after being told by basira that standing by with a cup of tea wasnt enough, when melanie entered the room Martin immediately offered her a cup of tea.

- Gerry didn't care abt what happened in the unknowing bc he's a book. jon asked if he was serious. Gerry responded that he was, in fact, dead serious.
- gerry teases jon by saying he doesn't know anything before rescinding that statement avd giving the vaguest hint possible. he's such a dickhead i love him
- gerard didn't trust gertrude-he wanted to, but she reminded him of his mother
- gerard called trevor and julia "the van helsings"
- gerry was jealous of lietner bc his mom paid so much attention to them
- mary haunted gerard for 5 years before gertrude destroyed her, and gerry cried with relief when gertrude gave him back the destroyed book
- before the unknowing, daisy was running around killing mannequins and other Strangers
- tim didn't think they would be able to stope the unknowing
- jon would rather have tim where he could see him-which is why he let tim come (guilt guilt guilt guilt GUILT GUILT GUIL GU

Gerry Keay analysis teehee
“I’ve always wanted my friends to call me Gerry” is so loaded. He didn’t have friends, he didn’t feel the kind of close to people where he’d ask them to call him a nickname. Fuck. Why now? Gerry and Jon have excellent banter, of course, but Jon was getting a lore dump from him. Doing basically the same thing as the hunters, using him as a source of information. The difference is that Jon promised to help him finally Go. Is one act of kindness all it took? Has anyone offered Gerard anything selfless before?
And for Jon’s part, he doesn’t really have many friends. Sasha is dead, Tim and Melanie blame him for their imprisonment at the institute, Basira probably could have been his friends under different circumstances, but it is what it is. He keeps pushing Georgie away, and he won’t let Martin get close, and here’s Gerry.
Gerry is a gift from god, he’s got the information that Jon’s been on a chase for since season 2. He worked with Gertrude. He isn’t hostile to Jon. He calls Jon his friend.
And Jon has to lose that after one conversation. Being Gerry’s friend means that he has to do the thing most antithetical to the eye, destroy knowledge, and what’s more, destroy one of the only connections he’s got, however small. Jon spends so long telling himself that distancing himself from people is the best way to care for them, to keep them safe, fucked up how the only time he’s right about needing to break a connection for someone else’s good is with the only person who calls Jon a friend.

Something Something Melanie describing Jon as "the closest thing she has to a friend here" when she goes to ask permission to use the institute's library even though a few episodes later she mentions having an apparently much nicer conversation than the sequence of screams she had with Jon with Sasha. Something Something the first person she thinks of venting to after being shot and returning to London is him ("I mean he's awful, but at least he listens, you know?") and the first thing she does when interacting with him after the bullet removal is to try to make him understand the depth of her anger (Oh just stop! Just stop and listen!)
oh, good catch on those lines, and one of the things she calls out in mag 123 is that she's furious because basira won't listen to her. yeah, you can call jon archivist many things, but a bad listener is not one of them. if you have something weighing heavily on your mind he's there with a bucket of popcorn and a tape recorder all set to go and fully ready to absorb the information.

The thing that I don't think people understand is that Jon and Daisy are so obviously parallels of each other. They both experienced traumas that pushed them towards their respective entities as children (Mr. Spider, the story of Daisy's scar), they both go into jobs related to that trauma because of how they have been marked, and they both slowly become corrupted by their respective entities.
The only difference? Daisy didn't have anyone to stop her. Jon had Martin and Tim and Sasha (memory of) and Melanie and Georgie and everyone else there to remind of his humanity. When he started hurting people and succumbing more to the Eye he had people there to stop him and pull him back. Daisy didn't have that.
All Daisy had was Basira, and she herself admits to enabling Daisy's behaviour and turning a blind eye to it. Daisy does stop, or tries to, even though it hurts, her after being in the coffin. She gets reminded of her humanity and is able to, like Jon, resist the pull of the Hunt.
In episode 160 Daisy does exactly what Jon does in episode 200. She gives in to the Hunt to save everyone else, the same way Jon becomes the pupil of the eye so that Martin can kill him (like Basira later kills her) to both keep the people they love safe.
Jon would have turned out exactly like Daisy if it hadn't been for the rest of the people in the institute, and Daisy would have been much more like Jon if she'd had good friends who called her out on her shit.
Yes, Daisy was very much a part of a corrupt institution and committed awful deeds, but she was driven there by the Hunt the same way Jon was pulled to the institute by the Web's manipulation and stayed there because of the Eye. Let's not forget that Jon also hurt innocent people because of the Eye, the same way Daisy hurt innocent people because of the Hunt. Daisy hurt people and so did Jon. The only thing separating them is the fact that Jon had Martin and Daisy had Basira.

tma characters and whether we'd be bffs:
jon:
absolutely not.
we'd be too similar and hate each other
also he'd hate me and i'd cry
love the guy as a character but would be INSUFFERABLE to be around
i would try to fix him and then get jealous when martin does it better
martin:
i'd chat to him but it would take a while for him to open up so i'd get impatient
i'd try to trauma bond with him cause i'd sense that we have the same traumas but he'd just...refuse
so i'd just like see him as my really nice kinda boring coworker who i could be such good friends with if we ever got drunk together or something
tim:
oh yeah. we'd be BESTIES
we would yap at each other, i would be so comfortable around him, we would bond over childhood traumas and joking about them, we would bitch about jon and just generally have an awesome time
we would be insane though cause i feel like we're both shit at commitment so we would only text like once a month but the love is still there
chaotic sibling vibes
sasha:
yeah we'd be friends
she'd low key stress me out cause she's pretty and super duper smart and insanely cool and funny
so i'd say weird things out of nervousness but she'd still talk to me because of some inexplicable reason
love her :)
side characters:
gertrude - no. old white people scare me
joshua gillespie - yeah we'd have one awesome conversation and i'd spend the rest of my life trying to replicate that
father burroughs - fuck no. priests creep me out. i'd get into interesting conversations about religion with him though
daisy - hell no. girl's terrifying. she'd want nothing to do with me.
basira - also no. she'd remind me too much of my mum
melanie - HELL YEAH. DISASTER QUEERS UNITE. she'd be mean to me and i'd be self deprecating to try and get her to be my friend
gerry keay - yeah man. i'd be so intimidated and definitely say something weird but he'd laugh at me in a good natured way
Thats it :)

Someone else was talking about how the Avatars get protective over people that experience the supernatural, I want to add that they also get territorial over things/people they just consider “theirs”
Like Jon might get territorial over Martin and Daisy and Daisy would feel the same for Jon and Basira
I feel like Michael would get territorial over Jon “his Archivist” they had some really good interactions and I think they could’ve been really good friends
Ooh it’s a series I love this. I need more of the avatars being animalistic in my life it’s actually kind of sweet

Call these my insane hope to listen to my favourite lesbians once more, but I'm having thoughts
With this last episode (tmagp 7) I think it's now more obvious Celia is our good old friend Celia The Cultist from back the TMA-universe.
Now, if we remember, the universe I'm assuming she comes from is now a post-eyepocslipse version of the earth. The world was saved, the fears were gone, everything was back to almost normal. And you know who knew almost exactly at what cost? Melanie, Georgie and Basira. They knew getting rid of the fears in that universe meant dooming hundreds or thousands of others to their presence - and at the time they accepted it, it was a price they could afford if it meant it could all end. But what if it wasn't as easy to live with that decision?
Anyways, my theory is this: Let's imagine they found a way to travel to other dimensions (Hill Top Road itself perhaps) and then decided to try and help others with their knowledge, their own experience. I mean they already had some followers (ahem) who were willing to believe in them and their cause. So now the cult gets an actual purpose: to travel across the different universes trying to find evidence of the fears and, maybe even, eradicate them at one point. Come on, you can't tell me this isn't exactly what Celia seemed to be doing, maybe the whole reason she even wanted the position at the OIAR
Also, just to add more, as far as Melanie, Georgie and Basira know, Jon and Martin simply disappeared, assuming them death. And now Celia will get to tell them their ex boss they kinda hated and his lover are trapped in another dimension's ancient version of Windows which I think will be a very amusing conversation

TMA Headcanons
I finished listening to The Magnus Archives a few weeks ago and have been discussing it at length with my friend, @lezalla . We've come up with quite a few headcanons so I thought I'd share some of my favourites! Be warned! There are mild to heavy spoilers for seasons 1 through 4. -Elias is pretty into yoga and staff members have walked in on him practicing his moves several times. His yoga mat is that One Specific Shade of Magnus Archives Green and has an eye motif. -Tim has found Elias' Tinder profile and it features a picture in which Peter Lukas has been poorly cropped out. Martin and Sasha have also seen the profile and it has become an in-joke. -Daisy was that kid who pretended to be a wolf on the playground. She also probably barked at people. -Jon can offer pretty good dating advice. -When Jonah first took over Elas' body, he decided to smoke weed to try it out. Since he was alive in the 19th century, he feels like it lacks any sort of oomph. -Martin has a thing for emotionally unavailable men, and that's why he started crushing on Jon in the first place. -Daisy bleached her hair at home in the bath and Basira helped her do it. -Tim went through a phase of dying his hair an assortment of eye-wateringly bright colours. -Martin is a big fan of 80s music, especially Wham!. Also a fan of David Bowie and Queen. -Jon insisted on only playing classical music on the drive to Scotland. When he wasn't in the driver's seat, he was clinging to the grab handle for dear life. -Tim and Martin can't drive. If Tim could drive, he'd have a convertible BMW. Martin would have 1988 Toyota Corolla. In conclusion, I love thinking about these characters and will Probably make more posts like this in the future <3
