✓ Eat Balut!
For those who know me or who have seen my bucket list, they know that I love trying new and unusual food. Among others, these are some of the mantras that I seek to follow all the time: If at a restaurant, look for something you’ve never tried before and order that. If in a foreign country, try their national dish(es) and any other unique food you come across. Those people will also know that I…

Translating Rain World food to Filipino cuisine
#2 Balut (Fertilized Noodlefly Egg)
Noodlefly eggs near hatching that were steamed or boiled. Simply crack them open and dig in. Can be enjoyed with Batnip Sauce.
Slugcat Remarks: Hunter: It tastes even better than eating them hatched!
Nightcat: This disturbs me visually speaking... But it tastes good though. It's better if I close my eyes.
Monk: I don't wanna eat this... :( Artist note: If you're sensitive to images of dead animals do not google Balut.

What are your favorite egg-based meals?
Eggs! Whether they're from chickens, ducks, geese, quail, and more, there are many dishes around Tamriel that feature this simple ingredient.
Altmer
In Summerset, a popular starter dish is a savoury steamed seafood egg custard known as chawanmushi. Served either chilled or hot enough to melt your face, this little dish is packed with prawns and shellfish and mushrooms, and topped with a slice of chewy fishcake.
Argonians
Crocodile eggs are a delicacy in Black Marsh, and the local Saxhleel have many ways of preparing them. My personal favourite is a flavourful scrambled omelette with scallions and oysters, cooked until the oysters are juicy to the point of bursting and the eggs are fluffy yet crisp. Known as or luak, this omelette is served with a healthy serving of chili sauce.
Bosmer
While people tend to hyperfixate on the meat aspect of the Bosmeri diet, they forget that eggs are just as important a food source. Poached giant snake eggs with cream sauce and smoked salmon atop cricket bread are the perfect brunch delight, especially when paired with a bit of jagga-and-honey.
Bretons
If there's one race in Tamriel who's mastered the soufflé, it's the Bretons. Whether savoury or sweet and set aflame with liquor, you can't deny that this tricky dish is worth every delicious mouthful. I'm personally a big fan of (surprise) four-cheese soufflé, where the egg is whipped with a clever blend of local High Rock cheeses to enhance the stiffening and therefore prevent an immediate collapse upon leaving the oven.
Dunmer
You'll never guess what this Dunmeri dish involves. Kwama eggs? Volcanic ash? Yes. Whole kwama eggs are buried beneath a mixture of lime and ash, and left to ferment for a few weeks until they have achieved a jelly-like texture on the exterior, and a creamy yet firm yolk. The eggs are served sliced and chilled, with pickled ginger on the side. Also great atop savoury saltrice congee.
Imperials
Like their penchant for eating pecorino-stuffed dormice, this dish will have you wondering what's wrong with Imperials. Balut is simply a raw duck egg, containing the lovely surprise of a two week-old foetus. Crack open the egg and sip up the whites, then season that foetus with salt and a splash of vinegar and slurp it up whole. This is, to some, unimaginably cruel, but Imperials in the Blackwood region insist that it's good for the health, and that it's delicious. I'll take their word for it, as this is one of the very few dishes I can't bring myself to try.
Khajiit
If there's a quintessential dish native to southern Elsweyr, it's probably telur balado, or twice-cooked eggs with chili sauce. Eggs are first boiled, then briefly deep fried to give them a delightfully crisp exterior while maintaining a rich yolk. It's then slathered in a rather spicy tomato-based sauce, and served with steamed rice. Also rather nice with a pinch of moon sugar.
Nords
While eggs from just about every bird are commonly used in Nord cuisine, chicken's eggs are by far the most popular and easily accessible. A signature egg dish in Skyrim is a thick omelette studded with bacon, served with sliced spring onions and rye bread. Simple, delicious, and downright good (except for its traditional, apparently Atmoran name, flæskeæggekage).
Orcs
Not everyone enjoys chub loon eggs, but Wrothgarian Orcs can't get enough of their rich, slightly fishy flavour. One popular egg dish is a seafood soup with egg drops, horker meatballs, and mudcrab meat. The egg drops are formed by whisking beaten eggs into the boiling soup, allowing the tendrils to cook on contact. It's served with seaweed noodles and a dash of strong black vinegar.
Redguards
Seagull eggs are a popular ingredient in coastal Hammerfell, and also act as a control measure against too many seagulls. This has happened numerous times in Stros M'kai, where shakshouka hails from. This famous dish is comprised of seagull eggs poached in an iron skillet with a spicy, flavourful tomato sauce, onions, and charred peppers. Usually eaten at breakfast with flatbread to mop up the sauce.

Hypothetical Filipino egg designs, bc the waiting is getting to me
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most of the conceptualizing was from other artists' designs I've seen around + my understanding on how Richarlyson and Pomme came to be design-wise
Notes:
salakot + bandana design intentionally references the typical image of Katipuneros
alternative to sampaguita would be local flowers like waling-waling (pretty) or ylang-ylang (smells nice)
jersey design is taken from the one worn by members of Gilas
the malong typically comes in many designs and colors, the one i drew was just something i came up with on the spot
some cultural markers I liked that I couldn't figure out how to integrate include:
- bakya (wooden open-toed sandal-shoes, some of which have intricately carved heels)
- something with capiz shells (sometimes used in place of glass for windows and decorative objects)
- a reference to a local food snack (smth like @/mincebarge's puto-inspired design), bonus points if it's an egg too (balut, penoy, itlog pula)
- smth smth common filipino produce like calamansi, carabao mangoes, lakatan bananas, i guess ube? idk
- parol (star-shaped christmas lantern)
- i think it would be sick if our egg can fucking glow

Thinking about the discussion about male chicks and in-ovo sexing - could increasing the popularity of balut come along with increasing in-ovo sexing, as the semi-incubated eggs could still have commercial value?
I would guess no, as they would need to then meet specific FDA/USDA requirements for food processing that would have to apply to EVERY egg, not just the male ones, in case of error. Right now, all the culls, regardless of maceration or co2 generally go toward animal feed (as ingredients, as by-product, or whole, as for reptile feed) or fertilization (of farmland). So they ARE being used already. Making a swap that would cause cost increase likely wouldn't be an argument for it. BUT. You might see it the other way around; if they switch, there may be a company that provides balut eggs as part of its byproduct.

I read some postings that what mcu planning for strange character, and in short word strange is new Tony, and look likely will have same 'arc' like Tony and probably will dead in the end of avengers film like him.
Tumblr media
What?. I don't know balut that I meant everytime strange in solo and other film it's either about how he sad about cristine or he only exists for help other hero(so far I see). To be honest the next ds3 I am not believe it will be about other feeling, I bet he still can't move one from cristine in first scene and in middle he trying to forget about her then in the end he will in love with clea.
Look I know how heartbreaking losing lover is hurt but come on, look likely strange arc only about can't move on from cristine, ugh
Did they can't give him other things to crying?
The MCU has really failed to set up the next Avengers team. I don't know what their deal with Strange is. Why they decide to have this repeated narrative of he's the worst.
I can not bring myself to really care anymore, Waldron is writing two Avengers films and I don't like him as a writer. He does not understand the characters he's writing and yet he's so convinced that he does and he tries to be philosophical about it.
season 2 of what if was a good amalgamation of the MCU as a hard. "Hey here's a cool idea, now let's ruin it and put all the focus and hype this one character while sabotaging another to the point it makes prior stories pointless,MULTIVERSE! Did you want new creative stories, well to bad it's about the multiverse enjoy the Easter eggs because that's all you're getting"

https://discover.grasslandbeef (.com) /blog/novolone-cheese-dairy-free-bone-marrow-cheese-recipe/
Heres a bone marrow recipe with 0 butter, it was the one i was looking at. It seems that it just uses the plantains as a mushy base but i didn't know if the clans have access to anything that can be mushified. I was also thinking if my clans have access to milk (one clan lives on mountains and are known for knocking goats over cliffs to kill them, although its dangerous since you can be the one thrown over instead) but i havent researched that entirely. And about the eggs, I actually did have that written down (its called Balut iirc), fermenting things by burying them came up a LOT and stuffing large organs like stomachs to cook whole came up too. Pemmican seems like something the clans would also eat, since its just dried meat, berries, and fat.
DEFINITELY gonna use that marrow recipe as a butter substitute, it seems like the marrow alone can be used as a butter... unsure about the cheese though, the plantain seems like a very important ingredient there as a binding agent, and my cats don't have those.
Could apples or pears be used instead? I don't think blackberries would have that same "consistency."
On Milk
It's in the realm of possibility for everyone else's Clans who live on farms or have a good relationship with feral goats to collect milk! Difficult, considering their paws aren't particularly dexterous, but possible if they figured out a good grip. Feral cats who live near elephant seals are also actually able to steal milk irl-- that's because an elephant seal nipple lactates in 'bursts' with no kneading required.
But my Clan cats will never have milk for two reasons
They don't like to spend time around humans or steal from them, unless they're SkyClan. Living too close to humans and their pets stresses them out. So Warrior Bites recipes will never use them, because they would not have a culinary use for things they do not encounter.
The logistics of taking milk are difficult. They'd need to keep the animal still, milk them into a bucket, and then be able to run with that container (possibly jumping over obstacles). Since my cats aren't living directly alongside these animals, they don't have technological development towards this. Maybe as a dare! But not enough to get used in official recipes.
I also just, personally, really don't like the idea of trying to force Clan Culture into being an arbitrary reflection of ours. I sometimes do funny little tidbits, memes, or jokes, y'know? Especially for names (in both English and Clanmew) because I love puns and it eventually becomes its own word. But something as big as including dairy products as a base ingredient in official Warrior Bites entries completely defeats the point of my project.
I'm not trying to reverse engineer human food for cats, like, make "versions" of popular people junk foods that they would never come up with if they weren't just mimicking twolegs. I wanna make Clan cat food. I wanna make food that's 75% what a cat in this culture would whip up if you gave them a brain and fire and only 25% still palatable to humans.
(examples of suggestions I get frequently that are a hard no: pizza, hot pockets, noodles, sandwiches, insert random farm vegetable, candy, plant-based dishes that contain absolutely no meat)
But!! This is taking my Clan's cultures into consideration! It makes perfect sense to have milk AND evolve lactose tolerance if your Clan's culture is keeping livestock! Be that their own herds, or living in tandem with human farms, etc.
ShepherdClan would be a serious vibe.
Stomachs, Balut, Pemmican
I ABSOLUTELY plan to make dishes that are like haggis, where you take a big organ, stuff it full of meat, and then roast the whole thing. A++++ S-rank stuff. That's exactly the sort of thing they'd get up to.
ShadowClan in particular also likes to experiment with fermentation, so I want to eventually give them "ratwurst" lmao, sausages made from the intestines of rats, packed with meats, and then fermented until hard.
Balut is an egg in late embryonic development. You get a little bite of yolk and a big bite of meat! It's absolutely something the Clans would get up to. Traditionally this is done with ducks, which are everywhere in the part of England so I can definitely imagine Clan cats stealing a couple eggs 'that won't even be missed.'
But you know what I'm going to do? Clan cats LOVE doing this with cuckoo eggs most of all. Especially in ThunderClan and SkyClan. They'll inspect the nests of songbirds, and if they see a cuckoo, just take it and incubate it themselves. Just enough until it's maximum delicious.
They have a cultural love of songbirds, so they have a vested interest in protecting them from brood parasites which kill the other eggs.
And pemmican? Totally a ThunderClan thing. Funfact I decided that it's Ivypool's favorite food, she seems like she'd like something a little chewy.
