We knew we couldn't save the world, but we would fight to protect the integrity of our community. We just didn't want to see the NFT realm become ransacked and currupted by corporate greed and VC's as so many others were. Just like the idea behind Disney, Anime, Comics, Magic The Gathering, Pokemon, Yugio, Pogs, D&D, Sports Cards, Hometown Collectors Shops, and whatever forum or community you choose to escape in, its about having a place where people can continue to be themselves without the fear of being judged, used or misled. With the goal to educate, grow, and preserve, The Daily NFT set out on a mission. We are far from completing our goal and know it will be a crazy ride, but we will with the help of our amazing community continue to add all the value we possibly can to this incredible space. #productiondesign #algoritmic #creativecode #creativecodeart #likeforlikes #liketime #like #cryptoartwork #likeforlikeback #likesforlike #f #artdepartment #mathart #likes #cryptocurrency #baftatv #productiondesigner #baftaawards #nationalfilmandtelevisionschool #collectible #eth #artistsoninstagram #baftanominee #arte #rarible #meowornever #meoworneverfilm #artanddesign #fantasy #stopframe (at New York, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPI8trBgk_N/?utm_medium=tumblr
When I first found out who Benedict was, I was 16. He was still relatively unknown, at least by my friends who were idolising the current Hollywood star or boy band of the month. I’d never had a celebrity who was my inspiration before, never been a part of a fandom, but for some reason he drew me in. I read about his time teaching English to Buddhist monks, about his adventures skydiving and mountain climbing, about his philosophy of living a life less ordinary and how he felt he was getting to live multiple lives. I saw him give a speech completely drunk and still recover, saw him use his platform to speak for people who didn't have a voice, watched him stay grounded and off social media in a world becoming increasingly dictated by likes and a new celebrity scandal every week. Still in high school, wanting to travel, wanting to take a gap year, knowing I didn’t want to get married and have 2.5 kids by my early 20s, everything about him resonated with me. I knew that I too wanted to live out my dreams before settling down to traditional milestones. It was refreshing to see someone who wasn’t “conventionally attractive” or wildly successful by 30, or married and divorced by 35.
Now, seven years later, I’m 23. I took a gap year. I moved 4,000 miles away from home. I’m getting my masters. And in the meantime, I've watched him cross off both his bucket list roles (Hamlet and Patrick Melrose). I’ve watched him turn into an international superstar and actual marvel superhero, watched him start his own production company (and get the recognition he deserved at the BAFTAs), watched him marry the love of his life at 38 and finally have the kids he’s always wanted. He's no longer nearly as relatable to me as he once was because my life is still a mess, but he’s a constant reminder for me that it’s ok to live life on my own terms and to wait for what I know I want, even if everyone else seems to be on a different path. But also to make sure I’m not letting life pass me by in the meantime.
So yesterday, watching him in person for the first time, I was reminded of all of these reasons. I watched him take time to speak passionately at every media booth. I watched him take the time to come over to each section of fans, despite the constant announcements that it was time to go inside. I watched him try to get as many fans as possible in his pictures, to single out the ones who were getting lost in the crowd, to sign autographs despite the extra time this took. I watched (from the tv), as, after 14 years, all his hard work was finally validated by the BAFTAs. And I truly hope he got to go home and celebrate with his wife and kids, for all those years where he wanted to and couldn't. And that at age 42 I’ll be able to say I too have lived multiple lives and have no regrets.
