As it usually happens on here, we become fans of things by osmosis if we didn't seek it out for ourselves. So I've been following you for a bit and I have finally crossed the threshold from "this person I follow really loves this media and I love seeing their love for it on my dash, so glad they're having fun" over to "I wanna have fun, too." And that's all thanx to @thatgothsamurai's photobooth art.

So, I hope you can guide me on where I should start with patpran and inkpa, and the rest. Like, are they on separate shows that crossover? A spinoff? Like, what's going on, where do I start, how do I watch. Like you, I'm in the US. Any suggestions are appreciated.

okay so both patpran and inkpa are canon pairings from the thai bl bad buddy and its related special episodes! all are produced by the thai production company gmmtv.

the show and all related episodes are available to watch on youtube with english subtitles - i'll link to relevant playlists.

THE MAIN SHOW: BAD BUDDY THE SERIES

directed by "aof" noppharnach chaiyahwimhon (who is gay himself), and starring "nanon" korapat kirdpan as pran, and "ohm" pawat chittsawangdee as pat. the original show is twelve episodes, which aired from october 2021 to january 2022. i watched it for the first time in february 2022 and have not known peace every since

the premise is that pat and pran, who have lived next door to each other since birth, have been rivals all their lives because their families hate each other. after pran's sent off to boarding school for three years, they are unexpectedly reunited at university - where they find that their friend groups are also enemies, so they have to keep up the pretense of hating each other. but of course they fall in love instead!

the main story is about patpran, but inkpa is a canon side pairing featuring "love" pattranite limpatiyakorn as pa, pat's younger sister, and "milk" pansa vosbein as ink, a classmate of pat and pran's. though they get less screentime, i still think they have a delightful romantic arc themselves!

SPECIAL EPISODES

zero photography: an inkpa special episode that is set after the main show. directed by "tee" bundit sintanaparadee, whom i don't know much about, and aired in august 2022

our skyy x bad buddy x a tale of thousand stars: so our skyy 2 was an anthology of special episodes released between april and june 2023 for a bunch of different gmmtv bls. each show was supposed to have two special eps for their characters, but since two shows directed by p'aof were getting special eps (the other one being a tale of thousand stars, also a delightful show), he decided to use four episodes as a crossover of the two shows. in the bad buddy timeline, these eps take place during a timeskip that happens in the original show between episodes 11 and 12, and features patpran but has a few great inkpa appearances too. you don't really need to have seen atots to understand the eps, i don't think? but they probably are more enjoyable if you have haha

EXTRAS

"just friend" music video: nanon sings two songs on the bad buddy soundtrack, and ohm sings one for our skyy 2, all of which have music videos, but i'm linking to this song of nanon's particularly because the music video its own story unrelated to the show at all! it's very cute and is basically an au where they are employees at the same hotel (and in love of course)

23.5 degrees the series: this is not technically related to bad buddy, but milk and love are going to be starring in gmmtv's first full-length gl, 23.5 degrees, which will be directed by "fon" kanittha kwunyoo (who i believe is a lesbian)! thai gls are just starting to get attention and backing by the major tv studios, and milklove's known chemistry from playing inkpa, as well as an exciting supporting cast and director, are making everyone super excited for this

there are also TONS of behind-the-scenes and making-of extras if you get into the show but i figured this was enough to start with :D

Aerin's Confusion in the Final Battle

I am so tickled by the idea that when the final battle happens, Aerin has no idea what's going on. I mean sure, 'Stop the Ash Empress,' but the rest of it... Nobody seems to really explain to him what they've learned. They clearly didn't tell him about Nia or true magic, and that would have been right at the top of my list of info it would be good for Aerin in particular to know.

And I think it's so funny to picture Aerin being lost and desperately trying to make it seem like he knows what's up while in the thick of this battle. Because he wants so badly for the team to like him and think he's cool. And he's so used to being the one with more information to work from than anyone else. So he's wildly fluctuating between absolutely bewildered and a cocky smirk to try and cover it.

There are so many moments that must be absolutely wild if you haven't gotten the updated lore the rest of the party did-

Nia is what?! And you're fine with that?? ...She can produce invisible magic that turns things to stone. Cool. Good for her. Seems nice.

Princess Valax, the immortal daughter of the Ash Empress is on our side now? ...Cool, cool, I'm not surprised by that. No, you're charismatic, I get it.

I'm sorry, Nia, did you just call her Mother of Grey?? Nifara did what?! ...No, I could have guessed that. It makes perfect sense. Yep, the Old Gods are real and this is one of them.

Yes, what to do about the rifts and portals. I clearly have an opinion because I understand what's going on. But I trust your judgment more than mine, so I'll just tell you I have confidence in whatever you want to do.

“Maybe we should get you to a doctor.” Buck muses, wrapping the blanket over Eddie’s shoulders.

“I don’t need- I just closed my eyes for a second. I’m fine.” he grumbles, fumbling with the blanket too long to want to actually throw it off, but he does in the end – he’s cold and refuses to admit it, and he’d rather sit here and pretend he’s fine. He’s impossible.

“Eddie, that cough did not sound fine.” he points out. 

“Buck-” he sneezes, and then wraps the sleeves of his hoodie over his palms. Buck raises his eyebrow, and Eddie pointedly avoids his eyes, as he not-so-discreetly wipes his nose with a sleeve. 

“I bought tissues.” Buck reaches for the bag and digs out a box, then tries to give it to Eddie, who, instead of taking it, just levels him with a stare, as he sniffles loudly, and swipes a sleeve under his nose again. “Seriously? You’re gonna be gross and disgusting just to prove you’re not sick?” That’s a new level of stubborn Buck hasn’t seen from Eddie yet. He can’t believe this is the man his heart decided it wants. And that even while sick and gross and stubborn and ridiculous, a part of Buck is still endeared by him.

“I’m not.” Eddie insists, sounding so congested Buck swears he can feel it in his own sinuses. “Let me just finish my coffee, and then I-” another sneeze. “Have so much to do today.” he finishes, but at least this time he reaches for the tissues, looking anywhere but at Buck, cheeks red.

“Yeah, no, all you’re gonna do today is rest and take some medicine.” Buck says decisively, then takes the bag in his hand, and slowly starts walking to the kitchen. “Get comfortable, and I’ll just put this all away and be right back. I bought meds, tissues, and something to cook you some soup-” he starts listing off, getting louder the further he gets. “Oh, and stopped by the farmer’s market to get honey. Did you know that honey has antioxidant and antibacterial properties?” he asks excitedly, ready to tell Eddie every single thing he found in his quick research. Buck learned a long time ago that with Eddie he doesn’t need to hold back and can rant and ramble all he wants, and Eddie is happy to listen to him.

“Yeah?” Eddie yells back, voice hoarse and strained. Buck can hear the couch shift as Eddie gets comfortable, maybe even finally lays down. He knows Eddie won’t just give in and admit he’s sick, but this is a start. “Why don’t you tell me all about it?” he sounds genuinely interested, though also really tired. 

“I will, just a sec! I’ll make you some tea with lemon and honey, how’s that sound?” he asks, and gets a grunt in response, though he’s not sure if that’s an answer, or if Eddie’s just trying to suppress a cough in an attempt to hide that he’s sick, as if Buck didn’t already know. He chuckles to himself. He really has his work cut out for him today.

i've reconciled my feelings about last twilight by realizing that although i'm convinced most of my favourite bls would benefit from getting more episodes than the usual 12, p'aof specifically works better when he has to work really hard to fit the one story he wants to tell in fewer episodes so that he doesn't try to shoe-horn a completely unrelated story in there to fill up run time instead

#last twilight #its the random bad buddy shooting plotline #he just gets these ideas that would work well as a completely seperate story but then needs to fit them into the story hes currently tellin #without regard for the sanctity of that story #1000 stars has hints of it but is saved somewhat by just having 10 episodes #and it explains why moonlight chicken is my favourite of his works #not enough room to go on weird side tangents #the story of exes to lovers after individual growth is great and would make a wonderful bl #it just doesnt work as a quick fix finale for last twilight without adressing any issues or granting the characters #the depth and exploration that they were granted for 10 whole episodes #p'aof needs to be constrained to 10 episodes or less is my hot take

he's a sweetheart but extremely neurotic to the point of constant distress. really don't know how to keep calm but he can be silly about it, it's just hard to watch him flounder. kind of has an interest in explosives engineering, but keeps that to himself since her meddling with explosives is what got her kicked out of nuwa's military academy without prospects for further career advancement (and led to her partial hearing loss, but she's honestly coping alright with that). but yeah she's very fuckin desperate to find a job and pay off her debts, which is why she even agrees to going back to the FINAL FRONTIER for any of these corporations.

Well, i have read the sample from Shusters book and what can i say. Now i get what the other anon was saying. Just from two chapters it’s already clear that Shuster is trying to paint Ze like some applause dependent dictator, who doesn’t give a fuck and his kids and wife(As Shuster wrote «Puts his work above everything else»🤡🤡)

#In my au the crying child kind of accidentally helped kill Charlie lol. He pushed her outside and locked her in the rain. Tee hee #And THEN. He went to go check on her because he felt a little bad since Sammy was going ballistic #and accidentally witnessed the last bits of his dad murdering Charlie. He then hides and was going to wait for his dad to leave but #Since OBVIOUSLY will needs to dispose of evidence he was going to stay there. So he kind of. Went over to his dad and they had a mutual agr #Will in return started treating him “better” and also stopped using him for experiments (as much) and instead tried doing remanent stuff #And then Mike and Elizabeth got kind of envious (this was also their father subconsciously pitting all three against eachother ) #so then they started to bully cc #Sammy comes into play because he also kind of helped cc push Charlie outside because Charlie was deemed “the favorite” and Henry truly #Never bothered to try and care for Sammy. Mike also was somewhat mean to him sometimes and Jeremy a #Babysat Elizabeth sometimes. By distraction William never clarified so Jeremy kind of went for a romantic ish approach. i cant explain in words what experiencing this episode for the first time when it aired felt like. it was THE most unexpected outcome of any episode ever and also THE most narratively sound, perfect, and true to the characters it ever could have been. it is a masterpiece of writing, acting, and direction. no one saw it coming. this series was just another typical bl - and then suddenly it was something else. and we all hit the ceiling in a way i can never explain but i relive every time i watch it.
