We will be comparing the Seagate Backup Plus Portable Drive with the recently reviewed Seagate Backup Plus Ultra Touch and the LaCie Mobile Drive. To test the performance of the LaCie Mobile Drive, we used the BlackMagic disk speed test on a current generation MacBook Air as well as leverage a Lenovo ThinkStation 920 for Windows testing. The only other thing that would really be noteworthy here is that this model is slightly bigger than its predecessor, though, as you’d expect with portable drives, it’s still small enough to carry around. We tested the Backup Plus Portable drive using a current generation MacBook Pro Blackmagic Disk Speed Test with a 5GB test file. Our comparables for this review are the following: There is also some branding and product information in one of the corners. The bottom of the device is slightly textured in the shape of Seagate's logo. There is a USB 3.0 port on the side, which also serves as the power supply. Yone is the only one with a real headphone case. Aphelios has his around his neck 24/7, but his wireless earbuds have a case. Sett's just shoving his in there with twenty pounds of dumbbells and hoping for the best.

Yone's got so many little gadgets and I don't even know what they all are. He has his laptop and (probably) his phone, plus a smartwatch, and maybe a portable charger? He's that prepared.

I can't tell what the object beside his smartwatch is (looks wooden?) If anyone knows, let me know? I'm so curious

This is a quick snapshot I took to 1) check the #TeleTuesday box for this week 🤣, and 2) show off my new Godox AD200 flash.

For anyone following my LONG litany of flash issues, I did end up being able to send back the AD600 Pro that broke. Amazon has not given me my money back yet...but I assume that is coming! In the meantime I had a photoshoot for ES Believers last weekend and needed a flash so I went to my local camera store and after some discussions with the salesperson decided to buy ANOTHER AD600 Pro. Why would I do that after having one that failed on me, you ask? Well because all my accessories fit it. I know that sounds crazy...but I have about 750 bucks worth of accessories that work with the Godox wireless and mounting systems. Not only would I need to spend double to get a comparable power Profoto flash but I would have to spend double again to buy all the accessories for it. So muggins here bought ANOTHER AD600. With the assurance of the shop that if it breaks they do NOT need to send it to China for repair! 🤣

However: to mitigate the risk of future flash failure, I also ordered a backup flash at the same time, and that flash is now here, hence this photo! Lighting is 100% from the AD200 (no natural light...this was my dark basement) on a stand through a plain softbox and the flash set to 1/4 power. Camera: z6ii, Lens: Z mount 24-120 f/4. ISO 100, f/5.6. 1/125th of a second exposure.

The Godox AD200 Pro is about 1/3 the power of the 600, but it is still 2-3 times more powerful than a speedlite. Plus it is so much more portable than the 600 and doesn't need a heavy C stand. It will be perfect for shooting outside the "studio" (aka my house)!

Excitingly, I get to test the new flash out on location shortly as I have been asked by Jason, head honcho at @fretboardjournal, to take some photographs for an upcoming article on a local Toronto artist. Can't say any more about the article yet, but stay tuned!

As we are violently thrust into allergy season - and with it, disgusting amounts of sniffling and nose-dragging and coughing and throat clearing - here are some tips and tricks to help you not lose your mind :)

- Always have some gum with you. The sound of your own chewing will help to block out the sound of everything else!

- If you have long hair, wear it down. It helps to block your peripheral vision, which makes it easier to try to ignore people making mouth sounds so you don't snap and them and sound like a crazy person.

- Bring backup ear protection! I usually have headphones on, but headphones can die. So in addition to the headphones, I have 2 pairs of earbuds and 3 pairs of earplugs in my bag, plus a portable battery to charge my headphones (which I have had to use before).

- Also, know how to make makeshift earplugs (just in case). You will need gum for this! Depending on how big your ears are, chew up 2-3 pieces of gum until they're soft enough to easily mold, but not too soft to easily hold a shape. Wrap in paper towel/aluminum foil (just enough to cover the gum so it won't stick to anything) and stick it in your ear.

*this is not foolproof, and I wouldn't recommend doing it on a regular basis because there is still a potential that gum will get stuck in your ear, but it has gotten me out of some emergency situations.

- Remember that these people are not trying to hurt you. They don't know that you have misophonia, and don't realize that their sounds affect you. They have no malicious intent towards you.

Please elaborate more on why and how you Unpack while traveling if you ever have the time and/or inclination to do so

Sure! Bearing in mind of course that this varies with whether I’m sharing a hotel room, how long I’m staying, etc. But even when I’m couchsurfing at someone’s place, if I have a private space (so I’m not encroaching on their space) I try to unpack. Unless I’m staying only overnight, even if I’m staying only two nights, I like to unpack so I can find everything and also repack efficiently.  

When I pack, I pack for space and balance -- I want to fit as much stuff as possible into the bag in a way that the bag is well-balanced, especially if I’m carrying it on my back (my current carry-on is a large backpack). However, this means I’m often not packing in a way that would make rational sense if you were “living out of the suitcase” as it were. The stuff I need to access during transit is always in outer pockets or near the top, but all my underwear could be at the bottom, my pyjamas off to one side, etc. For me, who likes to be able to see everything I might need or use, it’s just helpful to lay it all out. 

So I unpack the whole-entire bag and start making piles. Tech stuff gets set up and plugged into outlets; tech stuff I’m not using immediately gets put to the side on a desk surface. Toiletries into the bathroom, ditto vitamins/medication and jewelry. Paperwork goes on the desk, or whatever I’ve designated as a desk area, including my pocket “thread book” that I store receipts and tickets and such in. All food/beverage except reusable water bottle goes either wherever the coffemaker/minifridge is, or somewhere designated as Snack Central. Usually I have a second bag packed in the first that I use when I’m “in town”, often a messenger bag, and that will go by the door, with stuff loaded into it as needed (lip balm, water bottle, couple of granola bars, spare phone battery, hat). 

Clothing gets unpacked and either hung up or placed in drawers; often I’ll sort it not by type (underwear, socks, shirts) but by day, like “tomorrow I’m wearing these clothes so I’ll set them out, Saturday I’m wearing these clothes so those go in the drawer, Sunday I’m wearing these clothes so they’ll go in the back of the drawer”. Usually I use another drawer for dirty clothes, or set out the empty suitcase and pack them back into that. 

This way I can find the various things I need easily. The only things that stay in my luggage are my house keys, my wallet with my backup cards in it (keycard, corporate card, ID, and travel credit card go into the phone case that attaches to my bag).

So for example, this time I’m in a room alone with two beds, a coffee hutch, and a desk, plus the usual closet and dresser. Laptop, paperwork, workout clothes on the desk; toiletries and pills in the bathroom; snacks next to the coffee machine. My outfits for the next few days are laid out on the bed I won’t be using; my phone and headphones are plugged into my portable USB hub which is plugged in on the nightstand. “Town bag” by the door with supplies in it; nearby is a small stand where I’ve put some items for an event I’m attending (sunscreen, hat, water bottle) that will be packed in the town bag on the morning of the event. Everything sorted, everything in a specific place I can find it and visible. 

I thought I was neurotypical for forty two years.

Anyway then I usually collapse across the bed or in a chair with a soda and bask for a while. Although in this case I also ran out to Burger King real quick and treated myself to some chicken fries.

The band was his idea and was originally named “Art Miller and the Ward Keys” because he was the original lead singer

he gave the position up after a few years in exchange for playing bass

he enjoys dry humour and puns. The band name was inspired by a brief stay in a psychiatric hospital

Rayleigh (Ray) Barton, 22 years old, they/them

Originally joined the band straight out of high school, through a friend of a friend of Art’s

They were originally on lead guitar but switched to drums later on

they have a problem with boredom, and stay in the band because it brings constant new drama

Suzanna (Soozy) Hu, 30 years old, she/they

Was the second person to join the band, they called Art after her original band broke up messily

she plays synthesizer and does backup vocals

they dye her hair pink despite disliking the colour (she lost a bet)

Ben (Loni) Maloney, 38 years old, he/him

Joined the band a few years after it was originally created, as a favour to Art after one of the original members left

plays rhythm guitar and is extremely skilled

He’s probably the biggest cause of drama and infighting, but because of his skill he’s almost impossible to replace

Matty Matthews, 19 years old, he/they

Joined before Loni, but still later than the original few

they took over from Art as lead singer, and also play lead guitar

personality-wise he does not fit in at all, they’re a genuinely nice and easygoing person and have not, to date, been the cause of any drama

Dirk (Fingers) Maloney, 31 years old, they/he

He and Loni joined at the same time, as Loni refused to separate them despite being probably the most dysfunctional siblings possible

He plays piano and keyboard, and usually carries around a portable Casio

they have a stutter and usually speak Auslan (Australian sign language), which is where he gets his nickname

Quinn Fredson, 35 years old, they/he/she

The first person to join the band, Art asked them to quit their job as a petrol station clerk

he plays the harp, double bass and violin when they’re needed, but she originally played drums before Ray took over.

they’ve dated and broken up with half the band, and are in an on-again, off-again thing with Loni

When it rains it pours! Okay guys, I got zero sleep last night. My external hard drive crapped out on me and I did everything locally I possibly could to try and get it running long enough to pull my work. Unfortunately I am going to have to send it out for data recovery, which is going to be 1200$ plus the cost of a new portable hd to send up for them to put the files on. Most companies run on a flat rate for the amount of data and my drive is 2 TB of artsy goodness so this was the lowest I have found.

And assuming I get enough and/or go over they will be left alone for future printing assuming they can pull most of my Creatura Grimoire files. 9-1-1 REACTION

This reaction is for the season 6, first episode titled “Let the Games Begin” which originally aired on September 19, 2022. The episode was written by Andrew Meyers and directed by Jann Turner. Spoilers ahead!

Our favorite first responders are back with a new season, a new episode, and quite a few old, unresolved issues. This past Monday, we joined back up with the 118 and were immediately thrust into action. Last season’s blackout was a 4-part episode event and frankly it was a bit exhausting. This season’s big disaster opener features a dirigible crashing into a packed stadium. There’s fire. There’s chaos. There’s a girl with a artificial heart. While the disaster episodes are generally some of my favorites, I’m really glad they decided to scale this one back. Athena is able to locate the girl’s mom who has the backup portable artificial heart and Bobby and the 118 are able to rescue the two pilots of the crashed blimp. I kept waiting for something bad to happen to one of the 118 because the sneak previews have been hinting at something potentially life-threatening happening to one of our beloved characters, but everyone was safe and sound after this major disaster.

Rather than go beat by beat, I think it would be best to check in with each of our main characters. Let’s start with Bobby.

Things got rough there towards the end of last season for our favorite captain and nearly losing Chim and Hen due to Jonah’s psychotic behavior almost ended his sobriety. Thankfully, Eddie managed to talk some sense into Bobby and by the end of the season finale, Bobby revealed that he would be taking Athena on a honeymoon. Flash-forward four months later, Bobby is being very meticulous with his planning for the cruise he and Athena are going on. We later learn from Athena the reason why Bobby is so hellbent on keeping the two of them so busy. The cruise ship has a LOT of bars and Bobby wants to ensure he is not tempted into drinking. 

With Bobby and Athena away, someone needs to lead the 118. Bobby’s first pick for interim captain was Lucy Donato of all people. Apparently she has 10-plus years of experience on the job? Anywho, everyone seems pretty nonplussed by this news with the exception of Buck. More on that later. Anywho, Lucy has a broken foot or something (I really don’t care and I’m surprised they brought her back) and therefore unable to take on the role. Bobby ends up selecting Hen and everyone, even Buck, is okay with this decision. The only reason he didn’t ask Hen in the first place was because he was worried about her being overburdened. Ah, Bobby is such a good guy! 

Let’s check in on Chimney and Maddie. Last season was quite eventful for these two even though they spent most of the season sidelined. After both returned from Boston, they decided what was best for everyone was to coparent Jee-Yun. We watched Maddie conquer her fears about being a bad parent and we saw Chim slowly begin to trust her again. 

When the water is cut off in Maddie’s apartment, Chim invites her and Jee-Yun to come live with him. It doesn’t take long before the two of them fall into bed together. Naturally Chim freaks out and I thought it was so funny that he kept referring to him and Maddie sleeping together as a “one night stand”. Can you have a “one night stand” with someone you’ve had a long-term relationship with? Maddie wakes up alone in bed and has a freak-out of her own. She then has an epiphany while talking to Josh at the dispatch center. The abandonment she felt earlier than morning was only a fraction of what Chim felt when she left last season. 

The two of them finally have a much-needed conversation and Maddie confesses she wants to be with Chim and Jee-Yun as a family. Chimney and Maddie are back together and no one is more thrilled than me! I hope this season is kinder to these two because after their rough courtship is season two and three followed by a difficult pregnancy in season four and then everything that went down last season, these two need a happy ending. 

Let’s talk about Buck. It’s been four months since he kicked Taylor to the curb and apparently she took his couch! I know most folks in the fandom were not a fan of Ms. Taylor Kinney. I never minded her and I always defended her as a character because the things people chided her for are the very same things that people celebrate about Buck. However, I feel like she really crossed the line when she went behind Buck’s back  and exposed Jonah last season. Her actions could have jeopardized his career as a firefighter and put Hen and Chimney in even more danger. Nevertheless, our beloved Buck is single again which means he has plenty of time to spend with his not-husband, Eddie, and his not-son, Christopher. Seriously, I love how much this show toys with the Buddie shippers. It’s borderline cruel at this point. Excuse me while I cackle. Okay - I’m done. Back to totally straight Buck and totally straight Eddie and their modern family. 

Buck complains to his bestie about Bobby overlooking him for the interim captain position and I honestly hate how dismissive the characters on this show are when it comes to what Buck is feeling. The only person who ever goes out of their way to validate Buck’s feelings are Hen and that’s why she is fully-deserving of being the new interim captain.

Christopher takes a moment to remind Buck he doesn’t have a sofa while Buck is making food for the three of them. Buck points out that the couches came with his exes. Eddie then reminds Buck that it’s been four months and he’s yet to replace it. 

Buck goes out of his way to impress Bobby in hopes he will be chosen for the interim captain position but ultimately loses out to Hen. When he confronts Bobby about it, Bobby explains to Buck that while no one goes harder than him when it comes to the job, he lacks the experience that Hen does. Kudos to Buck to acknowledging that the captain is right and I love the advice Bobby gives to him when Buck admits the real reason he hasn’t replaced the missing sofa in his apartment. He’s afraid of making the same mistake again. Bobby tells him to take inventory of his life and admit his shortcomings so that one day he can finally be at peace. Pretty solid advice from everyone’s favorite Papa Bear. At the end of the episode, rather than get a new sofa, Buck moves his lounge chair to where the sofa used to be signifying his contentment with being single. 

There’s not much to report on Hen but outside of her getting the interim captain position, we learn that she is about to finish her second year of med school. I’m so happy the writers have decided not to abandon this storyline because maybe one day when 9-1-1 comes to an end, we can get a spin-off show featuring Dr, Henrietta Wilson.

We’ll finish things up with Athena. First of all, I love Athena’s new hair. I didn’t like it when she had it pulled back in the opening scene but when she had it down later in the episode, I really like the length and it suits her. I also want to remind everyone that Angela Bassett is 64 years old and looking flawless. I love her and I’m so excited to see what they do with her character this season.

On top of getting May prepared for her first year of college and getting ready for her honeymoon cruise with Bobby, Athena is also still adjusting to Harry being in Miami with Michael and David. Admittedly I guffawed when I heard her mention Michael, David, and Harry. For starters, I really hated what they did with Harry last season with the whole kidnapping and then him acting out because he blamed Athena. I think the writers also realized how insufferable Harry had become which is why he was shipped off to the other side of the country with his dad and soon-to-be stepdad. I hated to see Michael and David go but good riddance Harry. 

After an episode filled with near-fatal emergencies involving blimps, car dealerships and wedding rings, I was pleasantly surprised by how happy things were this episode. Then the proverbial shit hit the fan in the last few minutes of the episode. During a call with her parents who seem to have warmed up to Bobby since we last saw them, Athena witnesses via FaceTime her mom get run over by her dad. And yup, that’s where the episode ends. I know this episode was filmed way before the whole Anne Heck incident but I couldn’t help but think about that when I saw Athena’s dad drive through his house. I guess we'll find out what happens next week!

Overall, I was very pleased with this season opener. We got a disaster which I quite enjoyed and while it wasn’t a multi-episode affair like I’m accustomed to, I’m so glad they changed things up. Who knows! Maybe we’ll get another disaster episode later on this season. Another thing I quite enjoyed about this episode was how it put all of our characters in very interesting places. Hen is the new captain, even if temporary. Buck is single again. Chim and Maddie are back together. Bobby and Athena are finally getting to spend some much needed time together. It’s so good to have the gang back again and I can’t wait to see what happens next! Until next time!

Have magic, will travel: the things I will never travel without

I am currently preparing to go on a trip to participate in a relative’s funeral. There are several things that I don’t think I will travel without. The list is below along with reasons as to why I won’t travel without them.

- My phone (for obvious reasons): in addition to the obvious reasons of communication, my phone is also a backup for my e-reader and my spell book. It also has my tarot decks and my music. Truly indispensable.

- Two sets of Bluetooth headphones: normally only one would end up being on my person at all times, but if one set dies out, I need a second set. Gotta have my music for inspiration occasionally and also music helps with anxiety issues.

- Notebooks: paper and pen are the traditional method of writing. That being said, I feel that notebooks and pens serve a purpose to create spell slips on the fly and the act of tearing them out of the notebook serves as an invocation.

- Mini index cards: same reason as above, only more portable.

- iPad/keyboard combo: when on a trip, I doubt I’ll ever leave without this. The full range of my spell book and research is at my fingertips with this device and I can do more.

- Kindle paper white: I am not going to leave my house without my entire library in my bag. There is so much power that I could utilize in my kindle that I’d feel very vulnerable without it. Plus I love a good book.

- Chargers and batter pack: gotta keep my devices charged and ready to go.

- Stylus: sometimes nothing beats a handwritten spell and when paper and pen are in your bag, having a stylus on your person helps to make things easier.

- Tarot cards (physical): a good story can come from anywhere and I’ve found that some of my best inspiration came from a good deck of tarot cards. Plus, they serve as a good way to cast spells.

- Wallet: Nothing is more magical than a cup of coffee. Need I say more.
