Amagai's Reiatsu, even at the small amounts he was letting out right now, would be quite warm, such was the nature of his soul, but what he, and what Autumn clearly, were feeling right now did not come from him.

The warmth Amagai felt while standing there with Autumn was, different, it was hot, extremely so, but at the same time it almost wasn't-- it felt like something was trying to play a trick on his mind, trying to trick him into thinking it was scorching hot. "That's something." Amagai commented, observing more closely what was happening with Autumn. "It isn't me, Autumn, I think that's you? I think that's you!" Instantly, Amagai's excitement shot up. Amagai didn't know what exactly was going on with Autumn right now, but it was clear to him that his technique here had worked, Autumn's Reiatsu had been drawn out, and there was much more than that, too-- it appeared that she was channeling some sort of Kido that was uniquely hers, faint as it was!

"This is amazing! I don't know what type of Kido I'm looking at right now, but this is all you, Autumn!" Amagai would take a few steps back from Autumn, and immediately began to process the next steps he would have to guide her in, if she were truly in the process of, miraculously, creating new Kido like he thought. Soon enough, Amagai then says, "Whatever you're doing right now, keep it up, and try to push it a little farther. Try giving this Kido you're channeling a shape in your mind, and then chant the first words that pop into your head out loud." After all, Amagai had created a few Kido spells before himself, and he knew that if that's what Autumn was somehow doing here, she would need to assign it an incantation for it to fully materialize.

scent of the day: safanad (parfums de marly)

instantly this fragrance is dominated by pear. i can detect the orange blossom in the top notes too, but it's second fiddle to that expansive, rounded pear note. safanad reminds me of bpal's juliet; pear scents always feel a little soapy to me, as in high-end soap, and this is the case for both of them. my first impressions are that my mother would probably like safanad more than i do. it's her style of fragrance rather than mine, which is not to say i dislike it; it just feels a little bit like wearing borrowed clothes.

as the scent warms, it morphs into a white bloom with heavy, vanilla sugar-edged petals; the florals and amber at this stage remind me of alkemia's foxfire. there's a certain art deco vibe to it. it feels more adequate for autumn and spring, perhaps, and even for a brighter wintry vibe, than for the current summer heat. i may have to revisit it later in the year.

Please note that Yuriko has two different stories: The Storm of Souls, her canon story written by me, and His very own, her RP story written privately with @ruki-mukami-dl.

Moon Verse — Tsukino Yuriko

This is based on Yuriko's canon story, The Storm of Souls, and its events, changing as it proceeds. You don’t need to absorb it though; I’ll just portray Yuriko accordingly.

Yuriko is 19 years old 3dr year Ryoutei Academy student. She is a half Kitsune from her mother’s side and still learning how to use her skills. She has run away from home since her father is trying to take her to her Kitsune relatives in exchange for her brother, Yuuto, who was kidnapped into the Demon World as a child. While at school, Yuriko met Mukami Ruki who decided to make her his possession. However, their relationship has started to develop in another direction after Ruki realized there was more than simply delicious blood in this girl. They managed to save Yuuto in the hands of the Kitsune. Yuuto is now living in his apartment while Yuriko decided to stay with the Mukamis. The spring semester has ended and the autumn semester is about to start (and with that, Yuriko's canon story proceeds toward Dark Fate).

Godless Verse — Mukami Yuriko

Based on Rukiko RP story, His Very Own, with @ruki-mukami-dl. Since the RP story is partly private, I don’t expect you to know the details, I simply portray Yuriko accordingly.

Yuriko is married to Ruki and studies literature at the University of Kaminashi. They live in the Mukami mansion with the other Mukamis and have saved her brother, Yuuto. Yuriko has turned into a full Kitsune and currently has two tails. She can walk into people’s dreams, change her form from human to fox and back by will (though sometimes this happens by accident if she gets emotional), and use her foxfire.

Yuriko is currently expecting her and Ruki's first child. The pregnancy surprised the couple and now they need to adjust their future plans a bit.

Another Realm Verse

This is anything we come up with together or something that we create through our interactions. We can either plot it or swing it though I prefer the first option.

感讽五首·其三

南山何其悲，鬼雨洒空草。 长安夜半秋，风前几人老。 低迷黄昏径，袅袅青栎道。 月午树无影，一山唯白晓。 漆炬迎新人，幽圹萤扰扰。

The reason for this format, which is intended to evoke setting directions for a play or film (but which Laurence says reminds them of the Disco Elysium narrators) is that I originally read 讽 as “satire.” So I wanted to be a little irreverent and weird. It’s freaking Li He!

rain condensed from corpse airs --- it actually reads 鬼雨 ghost rain, but the Gushiwen annotations say that this is rain that falls because of the bad smell of bodies, and I couldn’t resist getting a little, you know, ghoulish.

a wind drives... the grave --- okay, it actually says “old age” probably but I just strongly get the sense that the wind is time and time is death and death is wind, so.

blurred, huddled --- two different translations of 低迷, which can be a blurred landscape or an emotional/economic slump

yellow dusk --- this is actually a binome for regular dusk but how am I supposed to leave OUT colors that are in there?!

draughts curl --- excellent turn of phrase here; the line is 袅袅青栎道 graceful graceful green/blue/black oak road. But 袅袅 specifically means “rising in spirals”! It could refer to the branches of the oaks, which, like, oaks DO do that. But I like bringing back the wind, weaving between everything on the way to oblivion.

high zenith --- “noon” would be much snappier but moon noon is too funny and silly ::(

casts its image --- I’m intentionally misreading this, lol. 樹立 is intended to be read as “trees stand,” not as the binome “set up/establish.” So properly (as in Laurence’s translation!) this would be “trees upright shadow,” which to me evokes the weird no-shadow time when the light source is directly overhead. I have instead read 影 as image or reflection, meaning that the moon is sort of propagating itself or turning other things into reflections of it. But also, the idea of casting a shadow that brightens something like the sky before dawn is fucking haunting.

phosphorescent fires --- reads 漆炬 painted torches. Maureen Robertson seems to have read them as maybe stone lamps, but the fact that they’re compared to fireflies makes me like Gushiwen’s interpretation better, that they’re foxfires (painted = of an unusual color?).

last grave --- reads 幽壙 remote tomb. I wanted to suggest that the tomb is The Proverbial Grave and I like “last” as an indicator of remoteness.

churning fireflies --- the fireflies are 擾擾, “disturb-disturb.” Could be read as just sort of flurrying or swirling, but 擾 is often read as like “trouble” or “harass” so I wanted to add some uneasiness.

Satoru rolled his eyes and them immediately proved Toji’s point by nearly slipping at the stairs of his apartment.

Wound - Also from Dance with the Devil

He looked, and the man looked back. His lips were moving, his fingers grasping. The gun in Satoru’s hands was heavy. Time slipped and slid and folded into itself. There was blood on the floor, blood everywhere. The wind was blowing through the open door. Toji was a shadow in the dark room. Two bullet wounds, clean through the head. There were bits of bone and brain matter in his mother’s long hair. The world had shrunk. The world had expanded. Satoru couldn’t breathe. He couldn’t think. The night was silent. Two clear gunshots. Blood on the floor. His plush fallen from his hands. Blood drenching the soft fur.

Satoru pulled the trigger.

Chill - You guessed it, it's Dance with the Devil

He wasn’t exactly used to roughing it, but it wasn’t his first time sleeping on the street. Usually he had good company to make things more comfortable, or a spiteful enough grudge against Toji to keep him warm, but for one night, he could handle it.

Even if the chill sneaking under his jacket reminded him of a tight little cell with cement walls and scuttling insects.

He had slept through it all. Or maybe more accurately, he had remained dead through it all, cold and unmoving as was his lot. He had responded to Satoru but to nothing else and the knowledge of that burned horribly in his throat.

Only to Satoru and nothing else.

Even though his girls must have grieved him, mourned him, cried over him. Even though he knew, even if distantly, that the pretender had kept them at his side, until suddenly they were no longer there. He knew his girls, his brave, brilliant girls. They were no fools, no children, they would never had allowed for this desecration, they would have done everything in their power to chase the parasite out of his body and lay him to proper rest.

long ask anon cont Pt 1- lol, I think Tumblr is eating my imgur link of the full ask even after I broke it. Also, thank you guys so much for answering and hitting the issues so well. I love what you and @autumn-foxfire has written so far. Here’s the rest: ...or at the very least, gen stories. The drama and tension between Hawks & Dabi actually gets me hyped & excited. This is a little off-topic but why are there so many trans-Hawks stories that are smut? I have nothing against it or smut but-

-it’s hard finding trans-Hawks/reg-Hawks stories that don’t involve smut. I do acknowledge that his character design is very appealing (ex: reader,ocxHawks mountain) but there’s so much sexual content ppl put Hawks in that it’s hard to find good stories(even smut ones)about his character just interacting w others or dealing w drama,mysteries,etc. I just want good Hawks content to recommend to new fans instead of just smut in case they’re underaged. (Hawks-sensei=Holy Grail)

Anyway, this is my perspective as a fan of Hawks who just got into BNHA for about 4 months & is extremely worried how others will see Hawks when the anime comes back bc of all the currently available fan content for him on Tumblr-AO3-Twitter. I really didn’t mind (even liked) the lov members when I wasn’t in the fandom but w/ how ppl write/draw them in order to bash Hawks, it actually made me want to read more about the main cast/Pro Heroes & Hawks hanging out w/ them instead.

With the Main cast/Pro Heroes, we can at least get a Hawks that gets to have therapy, build healthy (non-guilt) friendships, and the others would be able to learn about the faults of Hero society and the Commission through him.

But for Hawks+lov stories, I now cringe internally when I see the "league as found family" tag even though I would usually love the concept bc if Hawks is involved, he's either really ooc or the lov are. It feels weird to read stories where Hawks lets slip his tragic backstory (accidentally instead of purposely) and the lov openly accepts him or they don't care much since Dabi vouched for him. I think I've seen more interaction between Toga/Mr Compress/Kirigiri with Hawks than Twice even though that's canon (would love it if Twice interacts enough with Hawks to have his own conflicts and tries to convince Hawks from his path rather than just feelings of betrayal) . I would love to read more AU Hawks+lov stories where Hawks interacts w/ the other lov members through Twice and becomes conflicted when he realizes how close they are to Twice and how they should also get a second change or ones w/ tension and grudging acceptance of each others' beliefs so both sides would have to examine themselves if they should change their stance. Sadly, those seem to be a rarity or perhaps, only available in stories where Hawks isn't a central character.

Not gonna lie, even I heard the choir of angels and saw the heavens part when Horikoshi said, "Here, have everything you love about the kids' personalities plus the freedoms and privileges you can have in an adult character - as a treat." It also helps he was the same age I was during his manga debut. Even so, it got old pretty fast to see the sheer amount of smut that flooded the fic scene after the anime aired. Like, it's understandable - and this could just be my own view of sex and relationships talking - but jumping straight to wam, bam, thank you ma'am without the emotional foundation is a little boring at least and annoying when it's everywhere. At least people tag that pretty faithfully.

A faithful look into inter-League dynamics would be appreciated all around, I think. Some of the fan base seems to have this impression there's never anything wrong or abrasive about the relationships in it, but I imagine it's the opposite with what we've seen in canon. If anything, it would do a greater service to the League alone to see these realistic conflicts but explore how and why they stay together anyway. Adding Hawks into the mix is bonus material, in my opinion.

The good news, though, is I hear more and more from new fans that they heard about fanon Hawks for a while outside of fandom only to pick it up for themselves and give a hard side-eye to fanon. At least from a few people I hear about how they don't even begin to understand why fanon is so popular when canon is so much more interesting. It gives me genuine hope for the anime-only crowd because it's going to be even harder to misread his actions when they're put to voice acting, music, and animations - and that's even before well-known anime commentators like Mother's Basement may pick him up as a character essay. (Inosuke was picked up for his "What's in a Waifu" series, and he has a positive view of HeroAca so I'm holding out hope!)

I don't think bad takes and mischaracterization is ever going to go away completely, but it feels like those who preach it are a minority who either have to keep preaching it from the rooftops and drown out other voices to believe it or who are more concerned with being woke (or maybe even just trolling?) than actually just enjoying a series because they like it or dropping it if they don't.

I feel like there's this perception that it's all-or-nothing with whether a character understands that abuse is wrong or is otherwise dumbed down, but... honestly, from my personal experience, you can be very fucking smart and still be highly skilled at essentially gas-lighting yourself into submission. It’s really hard to live long-term in a situation that you know is messed up when you also can’t or won’t leave it, especially if the perpetrators of whatever messed up thing is happening are supposed to be Good (TM) - whatever that means for any given person, from ‘a superhero’ to ‘the government entity in charge of saving people’ to ‘a wise guardian’ to ‘literally just someone you’re close friends with and have respect for.’

A lot of people can objectively know that X thing (verbal abuse, child grooming, neglect, whatever) is wrong in a vacuum, but have a really hard time applying it to themselves in the specific situation that it’s happening in. Screaming at someone who didn’t do anything is wrong, but maybe the person who’s yelling is having a rough time and you should have been more careful to not upset them when you know that they’re struggling with their mental health right now and have a lot of triggers; hitting a child is wrong, but it’s not domestic violence if it’s just a part of standard hero training by one of the most prolific, well-respected heroes in the world - it’s not like UA doesn’t have combat models, too, and they’re a high school, they must know what’s good for kids; maybe someone is doing a bad thing, but you’re so used to seeing them as right and just that it just doesn’t occur to you contemplate that they are wrong; etc, etc, etc.

And someone who has experienced this kind of abuse and these kinds of warped thinking is not necessarily going to experience them forever... but just because they don’t act like they thought that way doesn’t mean they didn’t, and also doesn’t mean that those kinds of thoughts aren’t still something they have to work through sometimes. Personally, Todoroki’s anger at his father feels like a familiar ‘I can’t believe you did that, I can’t believe you let me think that way, I can’t believe you made me think that was even partially okay’ reaction, and his attitude in general has a lot of ‘I’m still working through this’ evidence for me. He’s still very focused on a lot of his father’s ideals even as he works through them, his anger is strongly directed at Endeavor, and he really doesn’t want his dad to touch him - and maybe that’s because he’s pissed rather than because Endeavor reaching for him is a trigger, or maybe it’s both. It’s still a visceral, strong emotional reaction that resulted from Endeavor’s treatment of him.

Anyways, my point overall is that I do think that many authors and artists seem to find it a point of catharsis to write about a character like Hawks or Todoroki being helpless and in need of rescue, but at the same time, I really disagree with disparaging all the traits that fall under the “weak” trauma-reaction umbrella as dumbing down characters. Recovery is messy and doesn’t always make sense, especially in your own head. I think we need more variety in how people portray trauma, because ‘meek and helpless model victim’ is really not the best prototype to reflect real life and the prevalence of it probably isn’t fair to the majority of trauma victims, but I don’t think writing Todoroki as on some level afraid of a guy who beat his mother and him until he threw up is, like... in any way not completely understandable. That doesn’t make him weak or unaware.
