"You would claim ignorance of the consequences of trusting Athena?" - proceeds to trust Athena.

do y’all think that Athena in God of War 2018 might’ve been a hallucination of the Norns?

I mean, she says the EXACT same thing Verðandi says to Kratos in Ragnarök:

So, yeah, that’s my theory anyway.

Athena is just very happy that they will spent eternity together on Olympus. Kratos is just a bit autistic as always is not used to see her face to face. He spent last 10 years speaking to her statue.

So I had an idea. What if Calliope was brought back to life? What if Calliope is responsible for the rebuilding and healing of Greece?
But with a twist. Athena and the surviving Greek Gods have corrupted her.
Athena has become the overarching villain in the franchise. She probably learned of Zeus's corruption after her sacrifice and so helped Kratos kill him. I think she's intentionally using Kratos to eradicate the Gods in each pantheon
Athena shows her what her father has done to her and her mother and all of Greece.
Calliope trained by Apollo and Artemis. Wielding the Blades Of Exile, Blade Of Olympus and the rest of Kratos abandoned weaponry and all of the magic Kratos once wielded is tasked in killing her father.
But ideally it would end with Kratos and Atreus getting through to Calliope and Kratos and his children standing together and finally vanquishing Athena once and for all.

Kratos’ ability to just recreate the things he liked the most is genuinely impressive. Severed head? Check. That one friend that died? Name my son after him, now I can fight with him again. Wife that can hold her own and throw insults? First thing checked off.
And I know people ship them but Freya completely fills in the role Athena left open.

You know, know that I've played all the God of War games (besides Ascension) I really think that Kratos is probably my favorite video game character ever.
His story through the Greek saga fits the mold of a classical hero, a tragic figure with complex morality defined by the SCOPE of his deeds more than their nature. The subversion comes when he starts killing gods, punishing THEM for their hubris. He's not without his own hamartia, his fatal flaw, his rage. By the end of the Greek cycle Kratos has initiated a full-blown apocalypse and become an outright evil person. His final act of self-sacrifice is basically the only path to redemption.
The thing is, Kratos' character basically does a full 180° by God of War (2018). At first I wasn't sold on the idea of Kratos becoming a repentant father, but it works. It fits with his choice to sacrifice himself at the end of God of War 3. In the original Greek games he lost his family, was forsaken by the gods and slayed them in turn. Everyone who was an ally either betrayed him or died trying to help him. Athena, Gaia, both turned on him, Pandora? A surrogate daughter, opening him up to kindness. Dead because of his quest.
The fact that the Norse games take his solo act and give him a family, friends, who are instrumental to the story? Hell they make him a GENERAL again. God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarök are no longer the Greek hero story, they're more contemporary in their story structure. Kratos, after all that betrayal, all that loss, opened himself up again. He breaks the cycle of abuse (he killed his father, who imprisoned his father, who castrated HIS father) by raising Atreus, and he teaches him kindness. They teach each other kindness. Not to be like the other gods. To be better.

Dear Hermes Enjoyers; please enjoy this excerpt from the original God of War 2005 novelization.
He is so gross and cringe and terrible and I hate him (sexual intent)

Trying to figure out what armor Kratos is wearing in the Valhalla screenshots. Now, it's got the same textures as the Ares and Zeus armor, it's just golden instead of red and gray.
There are only two possibilities here based on who else wears golden armor: we're either getting the Armor of Athena or the Armor of Helios.

Au fic idea where instead of disappearing, Athena attached herself to Atreus to try to influence him while he's traveling but it backfires and they end up having to tolerate each other for the foreseeable future. They go from hating each other to having mutual respect. Cue debates, squabbles, and shared stories as they essentially gain kratos and Mimir's relationship (minus the warmth, respect and family bond)
He gets so used to being the only one around and being free to openly talk with Athena , that Atreus forgets to tell his family that he is being haunted by his aunt lol
Kratos stressing out and like "Athena wtf"
Mimir being like "lad I get a lot has changed but why the bloody hell would you not mention this sooner ?!"
And all Atreus can do is shrug and go "I forgot that other people can't see or hear her" like THAT explains it. Kratos isn't sure whether to be thankful that Athena doesn't seem to be hurting his son or unsettled that they've gotten so used to talking to each other that his son snorts when she tells a joke none of them can hear.
Bonus points : atreus has to tell other people what she's saying, but he often dials down her condescension and will scold her "no aunt Athena I'm not saying that, that's mean"
Athena can sometimes gain enough power to show herself to those other than Atreus but it takes a lot of energy from both of them and she disappears for a while after
At some point, Athena manages to overshadow Atreus but it's only when it's life or death, and Atreus is desperately in need of aid. The way to tell is how much fiercer hell start moving, and he will let out a war cry that is overlayed with Athena's own. When they talk together it's overlayered and out of sync, and it makes kratos whole body tense because that's both his worst nightmare and his beloved son all in one and he can't do anything about it
I'll add more later!!
