You ever just have media that is so psychologically damaging you end up making the characters in Stardew Valley so they can just,, chill for a bit. They need somewhere to rest and this is where they shall.

Over the last week, I decided to go ahead with bookmarking all the fics I've recommended over the years on AO3 since I abide by tumblr poll results always (and man pour one out for all the fic that never made it to AO3 or has since been deleted, sooooo many gems lost to time!) and it was a bit more than the ~3,000 I was expecting:
Tumblr media
Hopefully, this will be easier than browsing the hundreds of recs posts I've made, since you can filter for any of the author's tags now! These are mostly focused on Star Wars and DC fandom, but I did my time in the anime mines and occasional tours through some TV fandoms or movies. You can dig into everything unfiltered and start your own filtering, or the bigger fandoms you'll find:
MAJOR FANDOMS: Each of these should have 100+ at minimum and, in the case of Star Wars, literally almost half of them are in that fandom. Look, Star Wars fandom might be a trash fire in a lot of ways, but it is ON FIRE with some good fic. (Older bookmarks not guaranteed to match my current sentiments, especially re: the Jedi, but they did catch my fancy at that point in time!)
STAR WARS: - All Star Wars -OR- All Star Wars minus the Obi-Wan/Anakin ship - OR- Nothing BUT Obi-Wan/Anakin
BATMAN/DC: - DC can sometimes be tricky, but you can do a Batman* search and get most of them (though, sometimes Nightwing* or Young Justice* or Superman* will catch some of the others). Honestly, though, you might want to just do a search for what character or dynamic you like and have fun from there, because otherwise you're getting a face full of my Dick Grayson Is The Center Of The Universe And I'm Making That Everyone Else's Problem agenda. ;)
MARVEL/MCU: - Marvel* will probably get most of the various properties, though you may want to filter for Defenders* or Guardians of the Galaxy* if you're interested -OR- Marvel* without the Thor/Loki - These focus a lot on the Thor* fandom if you want to witness the results of like 8 years of constant voracious reading in that fandom (Minus the ship), because, seriously, I read a LOT of Odinson family fic. - Bonus, just do a search for Maximoff* to find some really good X-Men: First Class-verse because, listen, I have been ALL ABOUT the Maximoff twins since long before the movies or MCU brought them over and I will DIE ON THE HILL of "Marvel, make Magneto their bio-dad again or I'm never reading another comic of yours ever".
TOLKIEN/LORD OF THE RINGS/SILMARILLION/HOBBIT: - Tolkien* -OR- Hobbit* -OR- Lord of the Rings* searches will turn up most of my Elf-hunting, I primarily focus on the Sindar Elves, but look I can't resist my problematic Feanorian faves or that I will die on the hill that Fingolfin is the best ever. (You have NO IDEA how sad I am that so much fic on Stories of Arda or FFNET is not easily bookmarked on AO3, sob. I externally bookmarked a few of the bigger ones, but sooo many shorter faves are missing from my recs tag.)
CLAMP: - X/Tokyo Babylon legitimately bums me out because it's not a huge fandom and yet so much of what was written was pre-AO3 and lost when CLAMPesque went down or was never brought over from Livejournal, yet this fandom (well, the Seishirou/Subaru pairing) still burns brightly in my heart.
MINOR FANDOMS: Ones that probably only have under 100 bookmarks (often around the 20-30 bookmarks range), but will at least give you a place to start! ANIME/MANGA: Bleach | Cardcaptor Sakura | Dragonball | Finder no Hyouteki/Viewfinder | Katekyou Hitman Reborn! | Kuroko no Basuke | One Piece | Sailor Moon | Madoka Magica | Naruto | Princess Tutu | Trigun | Weiss Kreuz | Yuri!!! on Ice
BOOKS: Chrestomanci | Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint
DRAMAS: Nirvana in Fire | The Untamed -OR- Modao Zu Shi
TV SHOWS/MOVIES: Community | Game of Thrones -OR- ASOIAF | Good Omens | Hannibal | Highlander | The Old Guard | Our Flag Means Death | Stranger Things
VIDEO GAMES: Dragon Age: Inquisition | Final Fantasy 8 | Genshin Impact | Okami
BANDS: Arashi
All right, whew, that was actually a fun project, despite how much work it was to hunt down a lot of older faves to see if they were on AO3, hopefully you'll find this useful!

To tide y’all over until the bracket is finished, here’s a list of every fandom in the tournament! Sorted by when each got its first submission.
It takes time to make the bracket cuz I gotta arrange all of these to be at least semi-equal in popularity to each other, and then make all the edited photos. I’ve been rather busy lately, but it should be up by tomorrow night :)

Might I have some of your finest beyondtsuda or mikamatsu (is that their ship name?) headcanons on this joyous day?
Oooooh hoo hoo
Anon I would be delighted
Beyondtsuda
Okay so when it comes to Beyond Birthday ships, one of my favorite things is him finding little pieces of A in the people he likes. However, with that all being said, I actually don't see Matsuda as being incredibly similar to A (personal A headcanons and all that), so I'd like to think that BB grasps on to some of those little things he can find that reminds him of A, but he also...actually has to get to know Matsuda
With that all being said, because of how far removed they are physically in canon, I generally headcanon their meeting to be something by chance. In a canon setting for example, perhaps they happen to cross paths on the street or in a shop or cafe because BB is tracking L and Matsuda is out (most likely to do something for L, or perhaps related to his brief manager duties). Or maybe they even meet in task force headquarters, because Matsuda just so happens to be the first person B runs into
Idk I guess to sum it up best, I think their first meeting would undoubtedly be one of chance (be at least somewhat L related), and I think while BB upon growing feelings would draw similarities between him and A he would ultimately realize how different they are
It's like the idea of "What if we were strangers? What if we didn't know each other because you aren't a mirror of me? What if we actually had to learn to know each other?" with a sprinkle of "I couldn't help but latch onto the ways you remind me of the person I once loved, but I know you are NOT them"
Okay okay perhaps I should add a silly headcanon in here for your enjoyment
Beyond and Matsuda would bond over mutual enjoyment of magical girl anime/manga. BB infodumps about Akazukin Chacha, Matsuda talks about Princess Tutu and Sailor Moon. They watch Madoka together.
MikaMatsu
Funnily enough, if I had to draw a thread between these two ships, it would be that Beyondtsuda share the capacity to bond over L and Mikamatsu share the capacity to bond over Light. Dunno why that trope has me in a chokehold. Anyhow
I like to think that Matsuda would have visited Mikami in prison (in the manga canon setting) before Mikami "mysteriously died"
The Kira reveal was a *lot* for the two of them in different ways, and given how they were narratively placed as opposites ("the man Light chooses as his most devoted pawn and could successfully rely on, who only knows Light as Kira the god" vs "The man Light thought would swing to his side, who he thought he may be able to rely on in the end, who knew Light as Light Yagami the man, son of Soichiro Yagami and L's only friend"), I quite like the idea of them...wondering what it was like for the other
I like the idea of Matsuda being curious despite everything, unwilling to really write the man he'd trusted off as wholly bad and seeking to know the man that Mikami knew. And Mikami, while yellow box and the shock of his "god"'s apparent humanity leads him to grapple over the idea of 'renouncing the false god' or possibly even twisting truth for the sake of his own mind (so he doesn’t have to contend with his actions possibly servicing "bad"), I think at heart he too would be curious as to the Light that Matsuda knew. Ultimately, I would headcanon their first real meeting, their getting to know each other, as a tragedy. No matter how close they manage to grow, whether they are open to or even can understand each other, in the end Mikami will die
Now, on a less angsty (but still a bit so) note. One of my favorite headcanons is the idea of them becoming roommates post L's death during the timeskip. It's just hilarious to me to imagine Gevanni investigating Matsuda's roommate, and it's fun to imagine how they would be as roommates. Ultimately, I actually headcanon that Matsuda can decently cook, so I think it would be interesting for them to start out as roommates who barely interact, but then become the kind of roommates who collaborate on dinner and teach each other different skills and air out some of their frustrations. I also think it adds even a tad bit more complexity to Matsuda's own feelings about Kira if he's stuck between a rock (Mikami clearly being a Kira supporter) and a hard place (being a part of the Kira task force, which is full of quite a lot of heavy anti Kira people). And while I think it's more realistic that they would grow some manner of feelings for each other (not necessarily ones they can pinpoint as romantic or sexual at this time, but not exactly platonic either) but any realization of feelings would be overshadowed by their current duties/goals and their separate devotion to Light (and their own feelings for him), I think it's also fun to imagine them as sort of a...roommates with benefits situation
Okay okay now for something a lil silly
I personally headcanon Mikami as aroaspec but also gay, but I think it would be insanely funny if Teru Mikami just found himself at a random time completely down bad for Touta Matsuda. Like, while he's not 100% sure of the nature of any of his feelings nor do I think he takes the time to think about this, at least him being down bad for kami-sama makes sense to him, but when it happens regarding Matsuda? I think he would just think in his head randomly "Why him? Kira is someone whom I respect and adore, someone who I feel a connection to. Why can't I stop thinking about this dude??"
Anyways, thank you very much, anon! Your ask has made this day much joyous for me!!

Loneliness
—————————————————————————
Many people feared loneliness. And yet, everyone has experienced it at some point. Being social creatures, humans tend to feel scared and sad if they have no one to talk to.
Homura was no exception. She feared loneliness as much as everyone else did. And yet, loneliness was her longest companion. Ever since she was born, loneliness had always been with her. It was her longtime friend. Or was it her enemy? She couldn't tell.
She hated being alone, but she spent her whole life being alone. As far as she could remember, there had been no one to be with. No friends, no family, no parents even.
She practically lived in loneliness. And that was before she met her.
And suddenly, her life wasn’t very lonely anymore. With her to talk to, to hang out with, to just be near her, she felt more happy than she ever had been in her life.
But then…
When she died, loneliness took hold of her once more, stronger than ever. She couldn't escape it, she found out soon enough.
Meeting her again had been a blessing, and loneliness temporarily left her once more. But then she died, again, and it came back, haunting her even further. And again, and again, and again.
Soon, her best friend only regarded her as a stranger but Homura couldn't blame her. She could never. Countless looping would do that to someone, and Homura ended up detaching herself from everyone, intentionally making herself lonely. Once again, loneliness was her only companion, and it only kept growing as Homura repeated the same month over and over again. Her growing love for Madoka and the fact that she could never be with her only gave loneliness the advantage it needed.
Homura eventually grew more and more accustomed to the loneliness, and soon she found comfort in it. She shut herself out from everyone in favor of staying alone, even if it would kill her. This was her way of protecting herself, and also them, for she believed that if she mingled with them she would only hurt them.
This behavior and mindset made her not afraid of loneliness any longer. At least to a degree. But growing close to anyone, to open her heart to them once more, the thought only brought her pain despite desiring so badly to do so.
Akemi Homura was no longer afraid of loneliness.
Instead, she was afraid of opening her heart to anyone else, isolating herself to protect them and herself. Even if it hurt her so much, even if it made her bleed, even if it would bring her demise, she would keep on doing it if it meant that Madoka would stay safe and happy.
Because, in the end, loneliness would be with her forever. That was the sad truth of Akemi Homura’s life.
—————————————————————————
Yes, I personified loneliness. That was the entire point of this story.
And yes, I’m back with yet another angsty one-shot of Homura! I love her so much, and she’s my favorite character but I can not resist writing some more of Homura’s suffering. God, I want her to be happy but her suffering is just… too tempting. She’s literally the chew toy of this universe, poor thing.
I think this was more angsty than the others, what do you think?
Hope you liked it!

a friendly psa about (some) asian names ✌️
this is not me coming to you as an admin (though this message has been admin-team-approved), this is me coming at you as an ollie, who is tired. and i am going to attempt to kindly educate, because i have been playing wei wuxian for three years, and there are still occasionally people who call him 'wei.' pls believe that i know it's not intentional and that it's definitely not meant maliciously, but it's still tiring. so!! i wrote this nice little guide to (some) asian names, and i am hoping you will read it, and potentially learn something about a different culture, if this is new to you 💕
asian names are usually (not always! but usually!) structured as surname + given name. (aka family name first, then first name). so for example, my chinese character who is named mo xi, he's from the mo family, and his given name is xi. i mention this bc i have seen so many starter calls, etc, where people request from my characters using their last names, and i would love for this to stop. for my character named feng yu, his family name is feng, yu is his given name. that's why feng yu's brother is feng xin. they have the same surname, and that surname comes first 👍
**however!! this structure is not a broad-strokes rule; it doesn't necessarily apply to all asian characters or all characters from asian countries/fandoms. a lot of people still submit their apps for asian characters and prefer to list them on the taken/ooc pages with "given name + surname" in that order, so it's best not to make general assumptions. for example, sunny is listed on the ooc as playing an anime/manga character named madoka kaname. in this case, the character's given name is 'madoka' with the last name 'kaname.' how can you tell? if you look on the character's wiki page or on sunny's blog, either place will tell you that she does in fact go by 'madoka.' (so: you wouldn't want to assume that it's flip-flopped just because it looks like an asian name).
therefore, when writing with someone and trying to figure out how to write an asian name appropriately, generally the best thing to do is ask yourself: how is the other person structuring this character's name in their replies and starter calls? and can i look on the character's wiki page to figure it out if i'm unsure? finally, if neither of those help you, you can always just ask your writing partner. personally, i know my dm's are open and i'd rather someone come to me and say 'hey i was wondering how should i write X character's name' rather than see someone call them the wrong name, which makes me sad :((
finally, a note specifically for CHINESE names!!
with chinese names specifically, in mandarin you usually do call someone by their full name, even if it's someone you've known for a while. so whether i was longtime friends with wei wuxian or whether we just became friends recently, i would still call him 'wei wuxian.' this may seem overly formal, but i promise it's not.
now, it is acceptable to call someone by only their given name as long as their given name has more than a single character (syllable). so if i wanted to could call him just 'wuxian' it would be technically fine-- especially if we're talking/writing in english, that's fine. 👍 wen kexing can be called 'kexing.' chu wanning can technically be called 'wanning,' etc. it is odd for strangers, but if you know the person or especially if you're friends/close, it's definitely alright. (there's actually a lot of rules about nicknames/ closeness/ seniority and things like that, but without getting too complicated, you can assume this is generally fine.)
HOWEVER, if someone's chinese given name is one character (usually written with one syllable in pinyin/english), you really shouldn't call them just by that name. it's not technically rude, exactly, but it's awkward and off-putting at the very least. that's not what you call them. xie lian is 谢怜, with both names as one character each, so 'xie lian' can't just be called 'lian.' he can either be 'xie lian' (full name) or something like 'a-lian' if you really want to give him a nickname. likewise, pei ming cannot be called 'ming' even though that's his given name. he needs to be called 'pei ming' all together. mo xi is always called mo xi (never 'xi'), qi yan is always called qi yan (not just 'yan') etc. if you're not sure at a glance whether a chinese muse's given name is one-character or not, simply call them by their full name to be safe.
again, this might sound like a lot of work, but if you just look at my tag for xie lian or read whatever reply of mine you're working off of, you'll see me call him 'xie lian' in the narration, and you can just follow along with that. and once you figure it out one time, then ur good for any later interactions as well.
and that's it !! if you have questions, feel free to ask and i'll try my best to explain! don't feel bad if you've misnamed characters in the past, but i would really appreciate if people keep this in mind moving forward, because it will make my life so much more peaceful and relaxing. thanks for reading; i appreciate your time!!

LGBTQ Disabled Characters in the Showdown Currently
Notes:
1.) This list is subject to change; before we start the showdown there will be another post with all confirmed characters. Characters are under the cut.
2.) If you see a character on here and you want to submit propaganda for them the form will still be open.
3.) If you think of a character that is not on the list you can still submit them in our form found here. If you submitted a character and they are not on the list, it might be an error on our part, but first check here to see what characters we rejected and why. More about submissions here.
4.) Submissions after this post will be open at least until August 10, but this could be extended. The only way this could be shortened is if we get 192 or more characters, but that seems unlikely. There will be around 12 hours notice before submission close.
5.) The categories are just a way to sort out characters in a more efficient way, they have no factor on matchups for the showdown.
6.) If you think a character doesn’t qualify, you can ask us and we can show you the explanation we have for that character and why they count. That being said, some of the character’s qualifications are up to personal opinion.
7.) If there is a character you think is problematic on here you can shoot us an ask, but just know that it’s not a competition of who is the best representation.

Thank you for making that one ask about Madoka and Homura, it felt very cathartic. Bavitz' take on the Madoka Magica always came across as somewhat bad faith in regards to Homura, so it's nice to see someone else agrees on this.
And while I'm at it, would you consider it disingenuous to describe the Madoka Magica cast as being selfish? Like, I suppose they are, but that also feels like a gross oversimplification.
(Context) (Context for context)
I'm glad you got catharsis out it, I suppose? Although I don't think I actually agree with your feelings as stated; his opinions on Homura don't come across as particularly bad-faith-ish to me, just as emphasizing different bits of her character and her narrative role (and in particular extrapolating her flaws in a different direction) than most of the more-popular interpretations (and my own) do.
As for the followup question: I am probably the wrong person to ask that; I get as far as "well, they do some selfish things and some unselfish things", and then at that point lose momentum and fail to figure out whether they do or don't count as selfish-on-net given that. First because what makes an action count as 'selfish' is ill-defined (is it selfish, or selfless, for Homura to prioritize Madoka's well-being over both her own and that of everyone else around them?), and second because a given action can have multiple motivations (Sayaka healing Kyousuke is motivated both by desire-for-him-to-be-able-to-play-for-people-again and by desire-for-him-to-like-her), and third because there's no obvious well-defined cutoff-point for what rate of selfish actions relative to unselfish ones makes a person count as selfish or unselfish.
If I were to ignore all of that and place the main characters in a continuum from most to least selfish based on pure fuzzy vibes, my first pass at it probably look something like "pre-character-development Kyouko > Homura > post-character-development Kyouko > Sayaka > Mami > Madoka"; but there's some argument for switching Mami and Madoka (Mami seems not to actually hugely like her magical-girling, unlike Madoka who seems to find it very personally rewarding, but does it (in extra-strenuous heroism-optimized familiar-killing fashion) nonetheless), and Homura could be argued to fit practically anywhere on the continuum, and this list doesn't include Kyubey and his motivations are sufficiently up-to-interpretation that he could be argued to fit practically anywhere on the continuum, and overall I feel no particular sense of conviction around the correctness of the list's ordering. Because selfishness is just sort of fundamentally a squishy and imprecise category.
(For certain more-rigorously-defined selfishness-related categories, I could speak more confidently. Kyouko is the most philosophically in favor of people being concerned only for themselves, at least until right near the end of her character arc; Mami is the most self-sacrificing in the name of helping strangers; et cetera. But none of that actually answers the question as asked.)

Puhaaa!!! 😆 That’s a surprisingly difficult one.. The list is waaaay too long and changing constantly 😅 Plus, I’m an old woman so I’ve been watching/reading stuff for a looooooong time already… So I tend to forget and usually draw blanks when I’m asked to write lists.. pls send help 🤣🙈
Also.. I hope it doesn’t sound weird, but I actually enjoy a lot of media without truly considering myself an active part of “the fandom” 🤔like.. in a sense that I don’t always necessarily feel the urge to interact and/or create fan content, even though I like something a lot. This is even more a thing in particular when it comes to tickle art!! Let’s just say my decision whether I want to create something is very private and individual in a way 🤔 It has to feel right for me if that makes sense. So this list will contain things I might never consider drawing for 😅
Okeeeeee 🙈🙈🙈 Sorry for the ramble on such a “short and simple” ask!!! I have a talent for making things complicated 🤣 Honestly, I suck at this… 😩🙈 But somehow I felt the need to clarify before I get into it 🙃🙃
EDIT!!! I made a tiny update to the list and added a colour code!!
Green: I usually feel comfortable with creating art for these fandoms.
Orange: I might create art for them but it strongly depends on the scenario and/or characters.
Red: Just no ^^ For personal reasons.
NOW! For the actual list! 🤣👇👇👇👇 (Yaaay)
It’s probably not truly a “fandom” list but more an excerpt of old and new personal favourites of mine 💪

Pokémon (various titles)
Yakuza (I LOVE this series!!!! 💖💪🔥)
-----------------
HHHHHRRRRRRrrrrrrr
Ok.. this list feels random af 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm certain that I forgot super important stuff, I swear 😩🙈
And I probably even screwed up the alphabet at some point 😆
Ofc I watched the usual popular Shonen stuff as well, but I won't put all of these to the list since I’m not that invested anymore (stuff like One Piece, Naruto, etc. etc.)
Sooo... I have no idea if this is what you hoped for anon 😅
If you still want to specifically know if I like a certain anime, manga, game, movie etc etc, (that might now not be in the list) just ask away!
But anyway! 😆
There you go!!

Myrrh
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Age: 1,200 (approx)
Home: Darkling Woods (Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stone)
Blood type: Dragon
Likes: Humans, Ephraim
Dislikes: Zombies, bows
Affinity: Wind
If I’m not mistaken, Myrrh is the oldest child in this bracket. (Well, at the start of their respective series. I’m pretty sure Madoka outlives her.) I know she doesn’t really look that old, but if you look closely, you’ll notice that she has dragon wings.
Myrrh grew up in the Darkling Woods among other manakete (dragons), until Grado’s emperor turned evil and started attacking. The manakete sense something going on in Grado, and for some reason, they send the manakete equivalent of a tween to investigate.* This was a bad idea, as she promptly gets captured by Grado. Luckily, she gets rescued by Eirika and Ephraim, and even helps them in battle (once they get her Dragonstone back).
Myrrh is less lonely than most manakete, but she’s still meek and (judging by her rare support conversations) doesn’t make friends easily. To be clear, she’s nice, she’s just…quiet, surrounded by strangers, and operating on a timescale where decades pass like months. But by the end of her journey, she’s started a few friendships and is ready to help defend humanity. Which is good, considering the end of the game…
On a lighter note, what does Tumblr think of Myrrh?
These blooms seemed a great plant association with the aniseed-scented perennial Myrrhis odorata (sweet cicely, myrrh, sweet bracken, sweet chervil, sweet fern, sweet Mary) contrasting both form and colour.
I will never tire of that joke.
Myrrh - I love Myrrh! Her support with Dozla is possibly my favourite comedy support in the game. And I feel so bad for her.
I don’t really have any interest in this banner but Myrrh saying “Uh- Bunny sounds!” Is the most hilariously adorable thing ever.
Tumblr media
(Unfortunately, Myrrh has been eliminated for a while.)
Myrrh from Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones didn’t deserve this!
*I know Myrrh’s the Great Dragon, which is kind of like a manakete Chosen One, but I don’t feel like that’s enough reason to send a child to investigate an unknown threat. At the very least, send a grown-up first, to see what’s up and whether it’s something that might hurt her.

sumeru archon quest act 2 appreciation post
HEAVY HEAVY spoilers warning, wall of text
note: i know the game said it wasn’t a time loop but for simplicity’s sake we’re keeping that phrase
honestly, i’m still riding the high of the archon quest so i will be very biased in my opinions LMAO. however from reading some friend’s and randoms’ opinions, i think we can all agree to a certain extent that this is one of the best if not the best archon quest to date. it’s such a mindfuck, wonderfully executed and so much more engaging. this is what inazuma should have been instead of the rushed mess that we got. i knew that the writing was going to improve bc MHY is no stranger to well-written stories (honkai, dainsleif’s and inazuma npc’s quests) but i certainly did not expect such drastic improvement this patch lmao.
first i want to go back and look at previous nations and why i hated the format of the missions. (to be fair i know that story-heavy live services games usually get better over time and not perfect the first few years but just using these points for comparison ;)). mondstadt and liyue, imo, is just there to set a foundation and test the waters. how the story was delivered was very boring. it’s pretty much: you walk here, read dialogue that most skip anyways, fight for 3 seconds, watch characters do the same 3 talking animation, cue cutscene, conclusion. look, i may be able to play visual novels for hours, but when i play genshin i expect something much more engaging than that okay lol. story is supposed to excite you, keep you immersed and encourage you to keep coming back to it. but i really didn’t feel that with mondstadt and liyue. most of the excitement were boss fights and cutscenes. if you asked me what happened in-between, i wouldn’t really remember much LMAO. inazuma was slightly better but followed a very similar format. i think we were all hyped from raiden shogun reveal and new region that we just kinda accepted whatever we got. Inazuma’s quests were better near the end with yae miko’s and raiden’s quest for certain though. building up to sumeru, we had a LOOOT of unanswered questions and no one seems to know or want to talk. this frustrated me a lot bc the only time we get to learn more about our sibling/khaenri’ah was through dain and that motherfucker appears like TWICE in the duration of one nation KJASEK. so as we enter sumeru we have a LOT of anticipation for something MORE, whether that’s through better quests or getting actual answers about the other sibling/abyss. inazuma is not completely flawed and is amazing in its own way but it should tell you a lot that I was already kinda done with the region by 2.4 ish.
now to actually talk about why i think act 2 was so good. i love time-loop like tropes ok? like a lot. it’s a complex trope to write and the audience can very easily get lost and frustrated trying to follow it. however, if developed with care, it’s extremely rewarding for both the writer and us pea brains gacha addicts. it’s not perfect as i think MHY could’ve done better than a “collective dream” as the reason for samsara. the conclusion was a tiny bit jarring with nilou being the host bc she barely appeared. but everything else was incredible. i appreciate that they tried to make that trope work within genshin’s lore. if anyone has ever watched madoka magica, i think it’s a great example of why time-loop like tropes are so good. simply, it’s disturbing. (madoka spoilers skip to next bold text if needed) the creator of madoka confirmed that homura has ran through at least 100 timelines to attempt to save madoka. when i watched it, i personally didn’t even get the hint that homura was stuck in a time-loop lmao. (end of spoilers). i like that the time-loop in genshin was similar to this. we sensed that something wack was going on. our memories are erased and we keep repeating the festival until the duo consistently retain their memories. nahida confirmed that they went through at least 20 time loops before realization. that is so eerie to me. i would legit question everything i ever knew about time and reality lmao. paranoia would overwhelm you and you can’t help but think if you’re truly of out the “dream”. if the duo wasn’t protected by plot armor, they could’ve been trapped there for an eternity. autonomy over your own life lost bc of some petty scholars. it’s that feeling of helplessness and trapped with no way out is what makes this quest so terrifying.
so that’s reason #1: time loop tropes are cool and it was executed well majority of the quest. reason #2: better audience engagement. aw man 100 chefs kiss to the teams that worked on this together. i don’t want to ramble but to summarize the following things really helped me stay engaged in the story:
- camera work: I might be very wrong there were some shot that utilizes actual camera techniques such as dutch angles and dolly zoom. subtle maybe but it was there. these are great for giving the feeling of uneasiness. and it was a great way to lead the audience too - dunyarzad: she was fleshed out very well! i was attached to her early on and even shed some tears during the dancing cutscene lmao she feels much more alive bc she had a purpose and relationships (nilou, dehya) that we care about. teppei lacked a lot of that and while i adored his character, i can’t deny that dunyarzad was more complex and believable - deduction mechanic: for once the player actively participates in the story!!!! it was so cool piecing things together. it helps making you feel like you’re a part of the mystery. aaaaanddd it confirms that the traveler is an established protagonist that actually speaks and not a piece of cardboard voiced by paimon. - battle of wits: we always see paimon solving issues via brute force but i think this is the first time we really get to watch them use their intelligence and observational skills to get out of this sticky situation. it was so refreshing to do a quest that was more mystery oriented. i definitely need more quests like this bc the dynamics/bonds between the duo truly shines here! - small little things such as art of young dunyarzad speaking to nahida, and mini-cutscenes of the duo time-looping to show quest progression. it helped liven the quest for me!
- traveler: traveler feels so much more human here. like I LOVED that they were mourning dunyarzad and angry at themselves for being unable to protect her. paimon has always spoken for them and we don’t really get to see traveler express their own thoughts and emotions a lot. I feel much more attached to the traveler bc of this imo. I’ve always seen them as a blank slate (and they are for the player but I see them more as an OC)
CONCLUSION
whether or not they're listening to our feedback regarding story (certainly not for character design oop), this is very exciting. i love the direction that they are going in in terms of storytelling and execution. this specific act is more story than action so it's possible that this gives MHY more leeway to be creative. but i'm gonna send them a fat feedback to make sure they keep some of the elements i mentioned bc i refuse to go back to the 40 minutes of pure dialogue and talking animations. the sumeru plot line has potential to be one of the best AND very dark thematically but will mhy actually do it??? we’ll find out in 3.1 and 3.2!

list of slay little girls:
- eleven (the original. the prototype. i haven’t watched stranger things, so it’s very possible that my understanding of the slay little girl, defined based on eleven, is nothing like eleven herself. but let’s not worry about that)
- organizm from players (slay little boy)
- harrowhark nonagesimus (the slay little girl of all time, i think. no one is doing it like her)
- i haven’t seen rgu but i assume at least some of them are slay little girls. i get those vibes
- ditto wrt madoka magica
- chara undertale (slay little human)
- lorde, like actual real life lorde, age 16, if pure heroine is anything to go by. actually maybe i should just say the speaker of pure heroine. who is probably just actual real life lorde, age 16, but who knows
- agnes montague
- dva???? very loosely
- connie maheswaran. or maybe steven, i haven’t decided yet, i feel like i should only include one, but i can’t decide which more exemplifies the slay little girl
- in a similar manner i’m stalling out between camilla hect & palamedes sextus, both age 13, although obviously neither of them is as slay little girl as harrow so does it even matter
- wednesday addams probably
- HOT SAUCE

nagisa spends a lot of her time doing things for other people, occasionally to her own detriment.
this is not headcanon.
she spent a lot of time, energy, and money on her (verbally) abusive mother, and only expected to be loved in return.
she then made her selfish wish, quickly falling to grief, and though she didn't know it, she helped the incubators with their whole Thing.
after the law of cycles happened, i believe she actually volunteered to go with sayaka as one of madoka's memory-carriers. even if not, she still did go, and i don't think madoka forced her to.
of particular note, in all three of these cases, she did things ostensibly detrimental to her well-being for the sake of someone she cared about. her mother didn't love her, but nagisa still cared about her enough to constantly visit her and buy cheese for her. in making her wish, she wished for herself; she wished for the cheesecake her mother would think was the tastiest so that maybe, just maybe, she'd feel something towards her daughter. in the law of cycles, she very easily could have just stayed in cushy magical girl heaven and played games with tart, but she chose to put herself in danger, because though she may not like madoka as a goddess, she does respect and care about her. she's, at the very least, better than the alternative.
in my headcanon, this extends to other areas as well. in one of my stories, she secretly took on kyoko's grief. i know in my heart that given the chance, she'll always try to help the people she cares about, no matter what.
this, however, does not extend to people she doesn't care about. she won't help strangers across the street, or chase down a thief, or anything even mildly inconveniencing.
but her friends? she'll fight tooth and... well, mainly tooth.

MK-S: Forgive me for I am about to traumatize Oktavia. Major Heartbreak ahead. (The reaction one mother has when she finally finds Oktavia…the one who killed her Magical Girl daughter.)
Oktavia was walking home one day when she was stopped by an older woman. The stranger asked if she was Oktavia von Seckendorff, to which Oktavia responded in the affirmative. The woman handed her a letter and then left without another word. Understandably confused, Oktavia just shrugged and went about her business, opening the envelope a bit later. There were a few items in it, and she pulled an item out at random and gave it a quick look…she froze for exactly one moment, then shoved the photo back into envelope and sprinted back home. She didn’t even bother to open the front door, just busted right through it, demanding to know where Anthony and Klarissa were. They were sitting together in the living room, watching cartoons. Oktavia threw her arms around them, as Kyoko and Mami just stare in confusion.
Oktavia eventually lets go and empties the envelope onto the table; there’s a photo of Anthony, Klarissa, Kyoko, and Mami. While the later two are staring at their own photos in shock, Oktavia is reading a letter that came out of the envelope. She’s quiet the entire time as she reads it. When she appears to have finished, her breathing increases rapidly, and then she sprints off into her labyrinth. Mami picks up the letter and she and Kyoko look over it together:
Executioner of Mitakihara,
I hope that by the time you read this I am far away. It may surprise that a random stranger knows your title, let alone how you are not human. I’ve learned many things in the past few months.
I know you killed my daughter. I know that she likely died scared and alone. I should call you a monster, not because you aren’t human anymore, but for that act alone. But I cannot…
For it seems my child was a monster. According to her diary, she slaughtered those who may have been saved, and did the same to those who were. She wrote that she didn’t believe rumors I now know to be true, believing them to be some sort of new deception. Of course, I understand that’s of little comfort to those who lost loved ones by her hand. What my daughter did was unforgivable.
And yet…I cannot stop loving her. Not a day goes by where my heart doesn’t ache to see her smile again. Where I don’t long to hold my baby girl in my arms just one more time.
I do not forgive you for what you did, but I understand why you did it.
Enclosed you will find photos of your children, your wives, and friends. They are safe and will continue to be safe, as least as far as I am aware. I assure you that this letter and those photos are the fullest extent of my actions against you.
I will not deny I was tempted to try to take away from you what you stole from me. But, I just couldn’t bring myself to even think of how I’d attempt such a feat (you being what you are), let alone the thought of doing the act. In your children I cannot help but see my own baby girl. I can’t bring myself to hurt such an innocent soul, nor stand the thought of putting another mother through this heartache; not even you.
Mother to Mother, I will give you this advice; hold them close, and make sure they know they are loved. None of us know what the next day will bring, and I sincerely hope that you and your wives never experience the pain in my heart. The loss of a child and the knowledge that your child became something so cold.
If we’re both lucky, we’ll never see each other again. I’m leaving Mitakihara, and I hope to one day be able to leave this country. But I want you to know one thing above all else, from a Mother who lost everything, to the Mother who took it all away:
I will hate you forever.
When Oktavia eventually comes out of her labyrinth, Madoka and Homura are now over. Oktavia heads to the leaving room and pulls her babies in the tight hug she can. The remaining girls all proceed to hug Oktavia as well.
————
Alright, well, I am sorry for the heartbreak and trauma inflicted upon Oktavia. I’ll start working on some fluff to help lift the spirits. That said, I hope you did enjoy reading. (Sidenote, I was hoping to use the cursive text, but turns out that font is WAY too big for practical use. Oh well, minor inconvenience.)
Okay. Violence it is then.
You know whats the fun part about this though? She'd feel numb. You know how she talks when Kyoko finds Sayaka on the trainstation and is like "Doesnt sound like you at all" and Sayaka numbly says, "Mhm. Yeah you're right. Guess I just dont care anymore"?
Its like that.
(She doesnt know if thats a general witch thing, or if its just her own protective mechanism to keep her from breaking under preassure again and perhaps not being able to be saved this time)
She'd read that letter, take it with her to her labyrinth, get rid of it and then sit there in silence (in witch form of course). Not as in the orchestra isn't playing, but she's not making a noise, doesn't move a muscle, just sits there with her cape still covering her upper body and listens. Thats all.
(She hates herself for it, considering she feels like she owes them guilt for the killing and yet doesnt feel any. She'd do it again, in a heartbeat. Mitakihara's magical part of the society only functions because of their system. The system's delicate, only works because of trust, support, commumication and team work. It works because they make it work. And therefore anyone who deems a threat to their peace and homes must be get rid of, to keep their little part of the world from hurting ((anymore)). How is she supposed to feel guilty for that?)

Tears
—————————————————————————
Madoka always hated tears. No matter the timeline, or if she was a god or not.
Tears often meant sadness. Whenever someone would cry, tears would fall from their eyes. Madoka hated seeing people sad, it always made her fragile heart ache in pain and remorse. If Madoka ever saw someone crying, she’d do her best to comfort them, no matter if they were a stranger or not. That was simply it. Nobody deserved pain, it was terrible.
Fortunately for Madoka, her life was filled with happiness, and while it had its ups and downs, she rarely ever saw someone crying in front of her.
But when she ascended, when she became the goddess of Puella Magi everywhere, tears were a very common sight. Even if she had seen it so many times, her heart always hurt for those girls. She’s seen many girls crying over the loss of their friend, over their injuries, when they’re about to die, or if it was a personal issue of theirs. There were so many situations in which she saw Magical Girls cry. There has been no Magical Girl that didn't cry, tears were shed throughout their sadly short life.
Whenever she saw a Magical Girl cry before she died, Madoka would feel like crying with them. Sadness or pain wasn’t abstract to her, it was personal. Her heart would weigh heavily in her chest as she approached the dying girl, but would soon feel a wave of relief wash over her when she remembered that now, those girls who suffered so much would finally receive peace.
It wasn't just the dying Magical Girls who cried, it was also the ones who were still very much alive and living their life in suffering. Madoka wished very much to comfort them, but the strict rules of the Law of Cycles forbade her, and she couldn't break that. As such, her heart would scream when she saw a girl crying but remembered that she couldn't comfort her.
There was also one girl who cried every day, a very dear friend of hers – Akemi Homura. She was the only girl who remembered her existence after Madoka had become a goddess.
Madoka has seen the time traveler cry so many times. In each and every timeline, she would see her crying. She always cried before Madoka died, and sometimes she cried after Madoka died. She cried when she was forced to kill Madoka yet again. She cried when she couldn't convince Madoka, and she cried when she found out that she couldn't save Madoka.
Watching her cry hurt Madoka in a strong yet indescribable way. No words could fit how much she suffered just seeing her friend weeping.
Every night, whenever Homura thought no one was looking, she would bring the ribbons – a parting gift Madoka had given her before she ascended – to her chest and cry on them. Sometimes, she’d simply bury her face in her hands and sob for hours on end. Many nights, she’d cry herself to sleep while clutching the ribbons close to her. It hurt Madoka so, so much, but she couldn't do anything about it. It frustrated her how she was unable to do anything to comfort her beloved. Even as a goddess, it still seemed she would be useless when it came to things like this.
It also scared and annoyed her that she could only console Homura when the latter was on the brink of death.
Moments like these often made Madoka wonder if she should have wished for all of Magical Girls' happiness as well. Or should she have wished for sadness to not exist? She hasn’t seen a timeline where she wished that…
Nevertheless, despite her inability to console Magical Girls personally, at least before their deaths, she could do little acts to cheer them up. Sometimes, she would send birds to drop flowers at unhappy Puella Magi. Being gifted flowers by birds always seemed to do the trick, as they would be much more happier than before. Whenever Madoka would see a positive change in their mood, it would bring a smile to her face. She did this with Homura as well. She could remember the surprise on her face when it happened, though she seemed to appreciate it as she ended up smiling as well. Madoka’s heart swelled with joy when she saw that beautiful smile of hers.
While Magical Girls faced sadness daily in their lives, Madoka would not let them live in suffering. As their goddess, it would not sit well with her. She would keep trying her best to make them happy, no matter what.
—————————————————————————
Ta-da! I made a Madoka-centric one-shot! Madoka is the main character, but her point of view isn’t explored much (Homu is all the rage LOL), so I wanted to try this out! I might make another one…
I hope I wrote this well, the ending (like always) was a tad tricky to write. I hope it's at least decent…
Oh yeah, and there is some hinted MadoHomu here (of course, it’s Fantasy’s work) if you squint.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed!

Today was my first day of trying to fit again into society (it sounds like a was a prisoner or something...) I went to a center where mentally ill people gather to talk and eat food and stuff...it’s organized by my caretakers. It went about as well as I expected, which is, not so good. I just wanted to sit out the one hour I was supposed to without talking to no one at first (I thought this might not be too difficult considering most people there are +20 years older than me, so the generational gap is strong) but I just had to sit beside the socially starved, extremely extroverted person in the room, who’s very first question was “where do you live?”, which is not exactly a good conversation starter. Considering that most people there are in a worse state than I am mentally, I shouldn’t be surprised.
Anyways, I bailed after half an hour. I should have stayed longer and really go to my limits, but I was really not in the mood for a conversation. On the other hand...I’m seldom in the mood to talk with other people, unless I’ve known them for more then 5 years every single day.
I’ll try monday again.
Considering I am such a frikkin weirdo, it’s probably not easy to talk to me, either.
Talking about caretakers, they’re teaching me how to do house chores. Very late, I know but...I never really learned when I was a kid from my parents. I mean, I did do some housechores at home, just not...everything. And my mom loves teaching about moral and ethics, but is not a very practical person for such things. It’s not laziness...at least not always. I’m just really good at blending out whatever I don’t like. Which was a necessity to survive my bullying days, but on a day to day basis as an adult it’s rather annoying.
---
I watched Oshi no Ko and Skip to Loafer again, like every Friday. Oshi no Ko was really dark, as always, but I think this time specially. Cancel culture is so real in this day and age. I bet it gives emotional scars. It’s very easy to jugde from behind a monitor, when you don’t have all the facts and weren’t even there. I am not a stranger to that either though, it’s so easy to write whatevers on your mind down, in a place where you feel safe, without the feeling to have any repercusion whatsoever. I’m working on it though.
Skip to Loafer I always watch after Oshi no Ko, like a palette cleanser. I think else I would lay down on my bed, gaze fixed at the ceiling with a “real shit”. Although I have to admit, Skip to Loafer is getting spicier. Not on the level of Oshi no Ko, I think that would crush my very being if such a cute show happened to be torture pron (cough madoka magica cough). But they left this episode on a cliffhanger, so I’m curious. I don’t think it has its own manga...or else I would spoil myself a little bit. Just a little bit. To get the tickling off my nuts.
--
My friend showed me a few minutes ago a caterpillar her mom brought into the car (by accident, I assume) and I thought it was rather cute, but my friend was hellbent on using it to tease her a little bit. It’s nice.
---
I wasn’t thinking about going out today, but maybe I will. I’ll decide spontanously.
